Take Action Now!

http://www.avaaz.org/en/gaza_flotilla_8/?vl

http://www.avaaz.org/en/gaza_flotilla_8/?vl

EMERGENCY NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION

NOVANEWS

Emergency National Demonstration, Saturday 5th June

To show our outrage at the brutal and illegal actions of the Israeli Government, PSC along with CND, Stop the War, British Muslim Initiative, Friends of Al-Aqsa , Palestinian Forum of Britain and Viva Palestina have called an emergency demonstration for tomorrow – Saturday 5th June.

The march will start from Downing Street at 1.30 pm and head to the Israeli Embassy in Kensington where there will be a rally.

The nearest tube is Westminster on the Jubilee and District lines. Alternatively, you can go to Charing Cross on the Bakerloo and Northern lines, which is a 5 minute walk away.

There are coaches from around the country coming to London – To find out where to get a coach from click here. If you are organising transport and your city is not listed please email info@palestinecampaign.org with the details.

Public rally – hear eyewitness accounts from the Mavi Marmara

Released hostages have returned home to give accounts of Monday’s attack that differ greatly from that pushed by Israel in the immediate aftermath of the incident. Contrary to Israel ’s claim that its soldiers acted in self-defence, witnesses have described how the Israelis shot to kill, with at least four activists being intentionally shot in the head.

It has emerged that the truth behind Israel ’s claim that activists on the boat were armed is that some passengers desperately tried to defend themselves with whatever was to hand after the Israelis began firing live rounds. Witnesses also described how the injured were denied medical treatment for several hours, as Israeli soldiers ignored pleas for help.

Come to a public rally to hear first-hand what actually happened aboard the Mavi Marmara and beyond. The meeting will feature several activists from the flotilla along with other speakers.

7pm on Wednesday 9th June in Conway Hall, Red Lion Square .

Called by PSC and Viva Palestina with Trade Union and other support.

In Sarah’s Words

Still wearing her grey Israeli prison uniform, Sarah Colborne, PSC’s director of campaigns and operations, flew back to London yesterday morning, to tell the world of the horror that took place on board the Marvi Marmara. Addressing a press conference in central London , with the Palestinian flag in front of her, Sarah said:

‘On Sunday 30th May, we set sail for Gaza . At 11pm, Israeli naval boats were detected on the radar and later sighted. A decision was made to move further back into international waters and further from Israel . We started broadcasting from the deck. It was difficult because Israel was cutting off the satellite signal.

Trade Unions unequivocally condemn Gaza Flotilla attacks – NUS bucks the trend

The trade union movement has rallied round in fervent support of the Palestinian cause. Yesterday, Unison joined Unite and the TUC in issuing a strongly worded condemnation of Israel ’s attack on the Mavi Marmara and calling for an immediate end to the siege of Gaza .

Alongside these unions, a number of others including the CWU and the PCS have been working hard to build Saturday’s national demonstration, which will be addressed by Keith Sonnet, Deputy General Secretary of Unison, and Sally Hunt from the TUC.

Unfortunately, the NUS has bucked this trend. Its statement failed to condemn the attack or demand an end to the siege of Gaza , and requests only an Israeli-led investigation into the incident rather than the independent and impartial enquiry called for by the UN Security Council.

Student PSC is calling on students to email the NUS President, Wes Streeting, and NUS President-Elect, Aaron Porter, demanding that they condemn Israel ’s killing of civilians on a humanitarian mission, call for an immediate end to the siege on Gaza , and support Saturday’s demonstration.

THE WORLD’S GOVERNMENTS & CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS WE NEED YOUR BACKING NOW!

NOVANEWS
Israeli citizens and residents: please sign this public call for the world’s goverments and civil society organizations to act immediately in pressuring Israel in order to let MV Rachel Corrie go through and break the siege on Gaza.
Signatures are welcome from organizations and individuals. Send toshani.ayala@gmail.com prior to Friday 8:00 AM Palestine\Israel time.

Israeli citizens and organizations

call on the world’s governments and civil society organizations:

Gaza and MV Rachel Corrie Need Your Backing Now !

June 4, 2010

We are Israeli citizens and residents, Palestinians and Jews. We work in our society to raise the voices of conscience and dissent in light of the hostility, self-righteousness and racism which dominate it, but these efforts are not sufficient.

In the wake of our government’s deadly attack on the Free Gaza aid ships, including the MV Marmara, and due to the continued cruel and illegitimate Israeli siege on the Gaza strip – we call on the world’s governments and civil society organizations to take concrete and immediate steps in pressuring Israel to refrain from interfering with the ship MV Rachel Corrie, currently on route to Gaza, or any future vessel, sailing from international waters to the waters of the besieged Gaza strip.

The international community’s tragic failure in ending Israel’s impunity – especially after the massacre of more than 1400 Palestinians in Gaza over a year ago – is the key enabler of the latest crime performed by the Israeli government and military leaders, killing at least 9 people and wounding dozens. Only if its support, funding and international ties are put in jeopardy, will Israel reconsider its policy of violence and collective punishment against the Palestinian civilians and their many supporters from abroad.
MV Rachel Corrie is carrying cement, a material banned by Israel which is indispensable for the reconstruction of Gaza after much of its buildings have been destroyed during Israel’s latest assault on Gaza. MV Rachel Corrie’s name was chosen to commemorate the life of the international activist who was squashed to death by an Israeli military bulldozer in Gaza, on March 16th, 2003. Corrie was non-violently attempting to prevent the Israeli army from demolishing the home of local pharmacist Samir Nasrallah.
In memory of the dead and for the sake of the living – now is the time to set free 1.5 million prisoners in the open-air prison set by Israel, prisoners whose sole “crime” is being Palestinian in the Gaza strip. It would only be fitting that MV Rachel Corrie’s accomplished journey would serve both to commemorate the lives lost on the MV Marmara as well as to carry out the mission of breaking the siege on Gaza.

ZIO=NAZI ATTACK ON GAZA FLOTILLA IS CRIMINAL AGGRESSION

Noam Chomsky:  Attack on Gaza Flotilla “Sheer Criminal Aggression”.

For Immediate Release

Recently <http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/18/world/middleeast/18chomsky.html>Barred from Entering the West Bank, Renowned Foreign Policy Critic Noam Chomsky on Israel and the Gaza Flotilla Attack: “Sheer Criminal Aggression, with no Credible Pretext” (Chicago, IL June 2) Professor Noam Chomsky, renowned foreign policy analyst and bestselling author of Hegemony and Survival and most recently of <http://www.hopesandprospects.org>Hopes and Prospects (Haymarket Books) offered the following statement to Egypt’s Al-Ahram regarding Israel’s justification for it’s attack on humanitarian aid boats headed for Gaza and the broader context regarding the economic blockade which the activists aboard the ships were attempting to break.

Chomsky, who is Jewish, was recently
<http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/18/world/middleeast/18chomsky.html>detained at the Israeli border and barred from entering the West Bank for a planned speaking engagement, provoking an international debate, and outrage over the issue of free speech in Israel.

Hijacking boats in international waters and killing passengers is, of course, a serious crime.  The editors of the London Guardian are quite right to say that “If an armed group of Somali pirates had yesterday boarded six vessels on the high seas, killing at least 10 passengers and injuring many more, a Nato taskforce would today be heading for the Somali coast.” It is worth bearing in mind that the crime is nothing new.

For decades, Israel has been hijacking boats in international waters between Cyprus and Lebanon, killing or kidnapping passengers, sometimes bringing them to prisons in Israel including secret prison/torture chambers, sometimes holding them as hostages for many years.  Israel assumes that it can carry out such crimes with impunity because the US tolerates them and Europe generally follows the US lead.

Much the same is true of Israel’s pretext for its latest crime: that the Freedom Flotilla was bringing materials that could be used for bunkers for rockets.  Putting aside the absurdity, if Israel were interested in stopping Hamas rockets it knows exactly how to proceed: accept Hamas offers for a cease-fire.  In June 2008, Israel and Hamas reached a cease-fire agreement.
The Israeli government formally acknowledges that until Israel broke the agreeement on November 4, invading Gaza and killing half a dozen Hamas activists, Hamas did not fire a single rocket.  Hamas offered to renew the cease-fire.  The Israeli cabinet considered the offer and rejected it, preferring to launch its murderous and destructive Operation Cast Lead on December 27.  Evidently, there is no justification for the use of force “in self-defense” unless peaceful means have been exhausted.
In this case they were not even tried, although-or perhaps because-there was every reason to suppose that they would succeed.  Operation Cast Lead is therefore sheer criminal aggression, with no credible pretext, and the same is true of Israel’s current resort to force.

The siege of Gaza itself does not have the slightest credible pretext.  It was imposed by the US and Israel in January 2006 to punish Palestinians because they voted “the wrong way” in a free election, and it was sharply intensified in July 2007 when Hamas blocked a US-Israeli attempt to overthrow the elected government in a military coup, installing Fatah strongman Muhammad Dahlan.
The siege is savage and cruel, designed to keep the caged animals barely alive so as to fend off international protest, but hardly more than that. It is the latest stage of long-standing Israeli plans, backed by the US, to separate Gaza from the West Bank.

These are only the bare outlines of very ugly policies, in which Egypt is complicit as well.

43 YEARS OF ZIO=NAZI OCCUPATION

Live from the Only Democracy: 43 Years of Occupation

By Jesse Bacon

Israel has stopped one boat, but it can’t stop the movement. Readers of this blog know the struggle has been going on long before the Gaza Freedom Flotilla set sail, and it continues and will only grow in strength. The protests commemorating the anniversary of the 1967 Occupation of the West Bank including East Jerusalem and Gaza Strip are carrying on, as more boats set sail for Gaza.

We’ll have live tweets so night owls and early risers in the United States can follow this protest over at Jewish Voice for Peace’s twitter feed. Then come back here tomorrow for a recap.

From the Popular Struggle Coordination Committee:

Tomorrow: Thousands to Mark 43 Years of Occupation Near Route 443
Palestinians and Israelis will demonstrate tomorrow, Friday, June 4th, near the village of Beit Nuba, which was demolished by Israel in 1967, near Route 443. Similar demonstrations, also denouncing the massacre aboard the Freedom Flotilla will take place across the West Bank.

Dozens of Israeli anti-Occupation organizations will join the Palestinian Popular Committees for a demonstration marking 43 years of occupation tomorrow. The protesters will denounce the killing aboard the Mavi Marmara, and call to end the siege over Gaza, to dismantle the Wall and settlements, and for freedom of movement for Palestinians.

MK Haneen Zouabi, who was aboard the Mavi Marmara,(the boat attacked by Israeli commandoes with at least 10 deaths) Mustafa Barghouti, head of the Palestinian al-Mubadara Party, Maher Ghuneim, Minister for the Wall in the Palestinian Authority, former MK Uri Avnery, and Palestinian Legislative Committee Members Qais Abd el-Karim (Abu Laila) and Mahmoud al-Aloul – will participate in the demonstration.

Additional demonstrations will take place in the villages on Nabi Saleh, north of Ramallah, Deir al-Ghussoun, north of Tul Karem, Ni’ilin – where demonstrators will also mark a year to the death of protester Aqel Srour by sniper-fire shot at him during a demonstration, and in the villages of Bil’in, West of Ramallah and al-Ma’asara, south of Bethlehem, where demonstrators will carry mock ships and will try to break the siege on their own villages.

Road to nowhere: During the occupation of the West Bank in June 1967, the Israeli army destroyed the villages of Yalu, Beit Nuba and Amuasse in the Latrun enclave. “Canada Park” and a number of settlements were built on their lands.

Most of the residents of these three displaced villages currently live in villages near Highway 443, such as Beit Liqya, Beit Sira and Beit Ur. In the eighties, thousands of acres were confiscated by Israel along the road, claiming that the road will serve as the main traffic artery for these villages to Ramallah.

However, the road has been closed for years for Palestinian vehicles. Following the High Court ruling on Route 443, a small section of the road was opened last week for Palestinian traffic, but is still nearly useless for the villagers, as access to Ramallah from it is disallowed, turning it into a highway to nowhere for Palestinians.

ZIO=NAZI BLOCKADE OF WARSAW CHETTO

NOVANEWS

Dear friends,

Zio-Nazi’s deadly raid on a flotilla of aid ships headed for Gaza has shocked the world. This was an outrageous use of lethal force to defend an outrageous and lethal policy — Zionist’s blockade of Gaza, where two thirds of families don’t know where they’ll find their next meal.

The UN, EU, and nearly every other government and multilateral organization have called on racist  Zionist regime of ‘Israel’ to lift the blockade and, now, launch a full investigation of the flotilla raid. But without massive pressure from their citizens, world leaders might limit their response to mere words — as they have so many times before.

Let’s make the world’s outcry too loud to ignore. Join the petition for an independent, international investigation into the raid, accountability for those responsible, and an immediate end to the blockade in Gaza — click to sign the petition, and then forward this message to everyone:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/gaza_flotilla/97.php?cl_tta_sign=9625a6df0b85e7de3d831b4188c19d8e

The petition will be delivered to the UN and world leaders, as soon as it reaches 200,000 names — and again at every opportunity as it grows and leaders choose their responses. A massive petition at a moment of crisis like this one can demonstrate to those in power that sound bites and press releases aren’t enough — that citizens are paying attention and demanding action.

As the EU decides whether to expand its special trade relationship with Israel, as Obama and the US Congress set next year’s budget for Zionist regime military aid, and as neighbours like Turkey and Egypt decide their next diplomatic steps — let’s make the world’s voice unignorable: it’s time for truth and accountability on the flotilla raid, and it’s time for Zionist to comply with international law and end the siege of Gaza. Sign now and pass this message along:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/gaza_flotilla/97.php?cl_tta_sign=9625a6df0b85e7de3d831b4188c19d8e

Most people everywhere still share the same dream: for two free and viable states, Israeli’s and Palestinian, to live side by side. But the blockade, and the violence used to defend it, poisons that dream. As a columnist wrote to his fellow Zionist’s today in the newspaper Ha’aretz, “We are no longer defending Zionism. We are now defending the siege. The siege itself is becoming Zionist’s Vietnam.”

Thousands of pro-peace activists in Israel today protested the raid and the blockade in demonstrations from Haifa, to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem — joining demonstrations around the world. Regardless of which side threw the first punch or fired the first shot (the Zionist military claims it did not initiate the violence), Zio=Nazi’s leaders sent helicopters of armed commandos to raid a convoy of ships in international waters bringing medicine and supplies to Gaza, and some now lay dead.

Their lives cannot be brought back. But perhaps, together, we can make this dark moment a turning point — if we arise with an unshakable call for justice, and an unbreakable dream of peace.

With hope, Ricken, Alice, Raluca, Paul, and the rest of the Avaaz team

UPDATE ON ZIO=NAZI GESTAPO

NOVANEWS

2nd June 2010

Emergency Daily Update.

1. Hostages on the Way Home – But How Many

The latest news on those peace activists who have been illegally held by the Zionist racist  regime in ‘Israel’  is encouraging. We understand that the majority of those being held have been released and are heading back to their homes, via Istanbul . However, we have been told that not all the hostages have been released, with certain activists being singled out for longer detention.

We will continue with its campaign to bring pressure on the Zio=NaziI regime to release all those who where taken from the flotillas immediately, including a number of Palestinian Israelis who may face criminal charges.

From the reports we have received from those who have been freed, many have witnessed the shootings that took place on board the boat, and with one PSC volunteer cradling a victim of shootings as he died.

We hope to bring you a detailed account from the eyewitnesses who were on board the Mavi Marama.

2. Reports of Mistreatment

Reports of detained activists being mistreated by Zio=Nazi  Gestapo  have already been emerging from those released earlier today and yesterday.

The Guardian contains first hand accounts of the Zionist attack, and of activists being deprived of food, water and sleep while in captivity

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jun/02/gaza-flotilla-activists-deported-jordan

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jun/02/gaza-flotilla-raid-gunfire-ship-blood

Al Jazeera contains reports activists being attacked with plastic bullets, beatings and electric shocks

http://english.aljazeera.net/news/2010/06/20106193546785656.html

3. Emergency National Demonstration Saturday 5th June

The world has looked on aghast as more and more details emerge of the violent attack by Zio=Nazi regime on the unarmed flotilla of boats carrying essential medical supplies to the besieged people of Gaza . Tens of people have been killed and scores more injured.

Those who survived the brutal attack have been illegally imprisoned, without access to legal representatives.

4. Lobbying in Parliament

Today, Foreign Secretary William Hague made a statement in Parliament in response to an emergency question on the situation in Gaza . Hague answered a number of questions on the blockade of Gaza , the EU trade agreement with Zio=Nazi regime and boycotting Zionist goods, and the treatment of flotilla passengers detained by Zionist army from MPs who are sympathetic to the Palestinian cause.

Over 3,300 people have already used our lobbying tool to send a letter to William Hague demanding a tougher response to Zionism . It is vital to keep the pressure up.

Please ask your MP to sign Early Day Motion 127 – Zio=Nazi regime and the Gaza flotilla.

The motion, which has cross-party sponsorship, condemns Zionist’s attack on the aid convoy, supports the UN’s call for an independent enquiry, and demands an immediate end to the blockade of Gaza .

Follow this link http://www.psc.iparl.com/lobby/50 to use our lobby tool, which takes less than two minutes.

5. Volunteers Needed for Demo on Saturday

We urgently need help stewarding the demo on Saturday.

If you can volunteer as a steward, please let us know immediately. You will need to be at Downing Street at 12pm for a briefing.

Email us at psc.admin@palestinecampaign.org to register yourself.

6. The Rachel Corrie due to arrive in Gaza in the next few days

The MC Rachel Corrie and two other ships carrying a 1,000 tonne cargo of medical, educational and rebuilding supplies are due to arrive in Gaza sometime on Friday night or Saturday morning. The ships were due to travel with the six boats captured by Zio=Nazi’s on Monday, but were delayed by mechanical difficulties. Irish Foreign Affairs Minister Michael Martin has repeatedly called for Zionist to allow the ships to deliver their aid to Gaza .

Speaking earlier today from the boat, Irishman Derek Graham said that he was glad that the Irish government was calling for safe passage for the ship, and that “if this aid is not delivered, then Monday’s deaths will have been in vain”. He went on to say that if Zio=Nazi Gestapo forces attempted to board the ship, all 15 passengers would sit with their arms in the air so that they would not be attacked. He also called for an end to the illegal three-year-old Zio=Nazi siege of Gaza .
