Five Things You May Not Know About Muammar

Are Libyans awakening from a ‘ludicrous nightmare’, or does the death of Gaddafi mark the beginning of a new era of imperial exploitation?

by Enver Masud,

“Libyans awake from a ludicrous nightmare: Gaddafi achieved nothing in his  42-year rule,” wrote  David Gardner yesterday in the Financial Times. Others have expressed similar sentiments. Here are the facts:

Gaddafi Seized Power in Bloodless Coup: Muammar Gaddafi, aka Col. Gaddafi, seized power in 1969 in abloodless coup by overthrowing King Idris of Libya — Idris achieved power with British backing in 1949.

Libya Ranks #1 on the Human Development Index: According to the United Nations Development Programme, Libya ranked first in Africa (53 globally) on the Human Development Index — ahead of Saudi Arabia at 55, Iran at 70, South Africa at 73, Jordan at 82, Egypt at 101, Indonesia at 108, India at 119, Afghanistan  at 155.

It is reported that Libyans receive free housing, education, health care, substantial cash when they marry, and overseas education if they qualify.

Largest Oil Reserves in Africa: According to the U.S. Energy Information, “Libya has the largest proven oil reserves in Africa”.

Program to Privatize Oil: On February 21, 2011, five days after the Arab Spring broke out in Libya, Qaddafi launched a new program to privatize all Libyan oil to every citizen of Libya, initially providing $21,000 to every Libyan from a total of $32,000,000,000 in the Year 2011, so that the health, education, transport, and  some other ministries could be abolished and individual Libyans could use theprofits of their own investments, including from oil ownership, to obtain the relevant services.

This, Gaddafi said, is the best way to eliminate corruption, including the theft of Libyan oil by foreign oil companies, and to decentralize governmental power.

Great Man-Made River Project: The Great Man-Made River Project, begun in 1984 by Col. Gaddafi, has been called the 8th Wonder of the World. It supplies fresh water to the cities of Tripoli, Benghazi, Sirte and elsewhere.

The U.S. threatened to bomb this “C-W Factory”; foreign companies covet the fresh water.

Rate your news media on a scale of 1 to 10. Assign 2 points for each of the five points above that you previously knew (1 point for partial knowledge). The resulting total is an indication of how well your news media covered the US/NATO backed civil war in Libya.

Are Libyans awakening from a “ludicrous nightmare”, or does the death of Gaddafi mark the beginning of a new era of imperial exploitation? We’ll know in a few years time.

The death of Muammar al-Gaddafi was hailed with an explosion of joy in all the government palaces of Western countries, but not by the Libyan people. For Thierry Meyssan, this militarily useless murder was perpetrated by the Empire not only as an example, but also to deconstruct Libya’s tribal society.

For 42 years, Muammar al-Gaddafi protected his people against Western colonialism. At present, he has joined Omar al-Mukhtar in the pantheon of Libya’s great national heroes.

On Thursday, 20 October 2011, at 13h30 GMT, the Libyan National Transitional Council announced the death of Muammar el-Qaddafi. Though confused, initial reports appeared to indicate that a convoy of cars seeking to leave besieged Sirte was blocked and partly destroyed by NATO fire. Survivors took shelter in drainage pipes. Wounded, Gaddafi was reportedly captured by the Tiger brigade of Misrata tribe and lynched.

The body of the “Guide” of the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya was not preserved in his hometown of Sirte, or taken to Tripoli, but transported by the Misrata as a trophy to their namesake city.

The Misrata Tribe, which had long been reluctant to choose sides and is virtually absent from the CNT, will ultimately have penetrated Tripoli after its destruction by NATO, and will have lynched Muammar al-Gaddafi after the bombing of his convoy by NATO. It has even moved his body in his town to celebrate his triumph. In July, the “Guide” had cursed the Misrata, urging them to leave for Istanbul and Tel Aviv, alluding to the Turkish Jewish origins of the tribe which later converted to Islam.

A barrage of pre-scripted comments was instantly unleashed by the Atlanticist media to demonize Muammar el-Gaddafi, thereby obscuring the barbaric circumstances of his death.

The main Coalition leaders welcomed the death of their enemy as marking the end of “Operation Unified Protector.” In doing so, they have implicitly admitted that its objective was not to implement Security Council Resolution 1973, but to overthrow a political system and to kill the leader, even if the assassination of a serving head of State is strictly prohibited by U.S. law and universally condemned.

In addition, the lynching of Muammar al-Gaddafi shows NATO’s reluctance to turn him over to the ICC which would not have been in a better position to sentence him for crimes against humanity than the Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia which could not prove Slobodan Milosevic guilty, despite a prosecution of two years.

In the deluge of mud spilled by the Western media to tarnish his memory, the same false accusations are repeated over and over, showing in fact that the media hold very little incriminating evidence that could have been used against him.

A case in point is the La Belle discotheque bombing in Berlin (5 April 1986, three killed), which was used as a pretext by the Reagan administration to bomb Gaddafi’s palace and kill his daughter (April 14, 1986, at least 50 dead). At the time, German prosecutor Detlev Mehlis (the same one who two decades later would rig the investigation into the assassination of Rafik al-Hariri) relied on the testimony of Eter Mushad to indict a Libyan diplomat and his accomplice Mohammed Amair. However, German television channel ZDF subsequently discovered that Mushad Eter was not only a false witness but also a real CIA agent, while bomb planter Mahammed Aamir was a Mossad agent [1].

Another example is the Lockerbie bombing (21 December 1988, 270 killed): the investigators identified the owner of the suitcase containing the bomb and the timer thanks to the testimony of a Maltese shopkeeper who had sold the pair of trousers also located in the booby-trapped suitcase. At that point, the Scottish authorities brought charges against two Libyan agents, Abdel Basset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi and Al Amin Khalifa Fhimah, while the Security Council took sanctions against Libya. In the end, to get the sanctions lifted, Gaddafi agreed to extradite the two agents (the first was sentenced to life imprisonment and the second was acquitted) and pay $ 2.7 billion in compensation, while continuing to proclaim his complete innocence. Subsequently, in August 2005, the chief Scottish investigator declared that the main piece of evidence, the bomb timer, had been planted at the crime scene by a CIA agent. Then, the expert who had analyzed the timer for the court admitted he had manufactured it himself before the CIA “dropped it off.” Finally, the Maltese shopkeeper admitted having received $ 2 million for bearing false witness. The Scottish authorities decided to review the case, but the health of Abdel Basset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi did not allow it.

The current disinformation campaign also includes an installment on the lifestyle of the deceased, classified as sumptuous, and the amount of his stashed-away Pharaonic fortune. But all those who approached Muammar al-Gaddafi, or who simply visited his family home and residence after they were bombarded can attest that he lived in an environment equal to that of the middle class in his country, far from the flashy style of Planning Minister Mahmoud Jibril. Similarly, none of the states that for months have been tracking Gaddafi’s hidden fortune has been able to find it. Any money that was seized belonged to the Libyan government and not to the “Guide”.

On the other hand, the media have failed to mention the only international arrest warrant against Muammar al-Gaddafi, issued by Interpol before the NATO offensive. He was accused by the Lebanese justice of having disposed of Imam Moussa Sadr and his companions (1978). This media oversight can be explained by the fact that the kidnapping was sponsored by the United States who wanted to get rid of the Shi’a clergyman before allowing Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, also a Shi’a Muslim, to return to Iran, to prevent Sadr from spreading the Ayatollah’s revolutionary influence to Lebanon.

The Atlanticist media have also overlooked the criticism that anti-imperialist Resistance organizations, and indeed ourselves, addressed at Muammar al-Gaddafi concerning his frequent compromises with Israel.

For my part, I can attest that, until the Battle of Tripoli, the “Guide” had continued to negotiate with Israeli envoys in the hope of buying Tel Aviv’s protection. But I must also attest that, despite my strong reservations about his international policy, and the complete file about me in this regard that was given to him in July by the French DCRI in an attempt to have me arrested, Muammar al-Gaddafi gave me his trust and asked me to help his country assert its rights at the United Nations [2] – a behavior which one would hardly expect from a tyrant.

Nor have the Atlanticist media ever mentioned my condemnation of Libya’s interference in French political life, including the illegal financing of the presidential election campaigns of Nicolas Sarkozy and Ségolène Royal. The “Guide” had in fact authorized his brother-in-law Abdallah Senoussi to corrupt the two leading candidates in exchange for an amnesty pledge or for putting pressure on French Justice to wrap up his criminal record [3].

But above all, the Atlanticist media have failed to mention the major achievements of the “Guide”: the overthrow of the puppet monarchy imposed by the Anglo-Saxons, the removal of foreign troops, the nationalization of hydrocarbons, the construction of the Man Made River (the largest irrigation project in the world), the redistribution of oil revenues (he turned one of the poorest in the world into the richest in Africa), generous asylum to Palestinian refugees and development aid on an unprecedented scale to the Third World (Libya’s development aid was more important than all the G20 states put together).

The death of Muammar el-Qaddafi will change nothing at the international level. The important event was the fall of Tripoli, bombarded and captured by NATO – undoubtedly the worst war crime of this century – followed by the penetration of the Misrata tribe to control the capital. In the weeks that preceded the Battle of Tripoli, the overwhelming majority of Libyans took part, Friday after Friday, in anti-NATO, anti-CNT and pro-Gaddafi rallies. Now, their country has been destroyed and they are governed by NATO and its CNT puppets.

However, the death of the “Guide” will have an enduring traumatic effect on Libya’s tribal society. By killing the leader, NATO destroyed the incarnation of the principle of authority. It will take years and much more violence before a new leader will be recognized by all the tribes or the tribal system is replaced by another form of social organization. In this sense, the death of Muammar al-Gaddafi opened a period of Iraqization or Somaliazation in Libya.

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi: “We continue our resistance to full revenge”

وسيف الاسلام القذافي: “سنواصل مقاومتنا للانتقام الكامل

Sayf-Al-Islam al-Qaddafi, son of Mu’ammar Al-Qaddafi, said in a call to Syrian TV station “Al-Rai” that the resistance continues to ‘full revenge’ for the mass killings of an estimated 90,000 Libyans during 8 months of occupation attempts, invasion and non-stop bombing by the European and North American military forces (NATO) as well as Qatar and some other Arab states.

He confirmed that he is still in Libya, alive and free, in spite of false reports to the contrary, and that the Libyan popular resistance continues against the occupation of the North African country, which was the wealthiest country in Africa as well as its strongest defence.

“We continue our resistance. I am in Libya, I am alive, free and intend to go to the very end and exact revenge,” Sayf-Al-Islam said Saturday night on the Syrian channel, as reported in Russian media but ignored by other world media which are complicit in war crimes.

Egypt’s Nile TV Channel claimed on Thursday, October 20, that Sayf-al-Islam had managed to flee Sirte and find shelter in the desert.

According to RIA Novosti, a Russian news agency, an un-named website of Gaddafi’s supporters had earlier posted a statement that Seif al-Islam had been named an heir to the Libyan dictator and charged with the command of forces fighting the rebels.

First images in video appear to be real images of Mutassim smoking a cigarette while captured, but the subsequent images of him appearing dead are apparently fake according to an unnamed source. NTC information officer Mahmoud Shammam said: “Mutassim is dead.”

Other reports circulating say that Sayf al-Islam al-Qaddafi has already got the support of the tribes loyal to his father Mu’ammar al-Qaddafi, tribes which had promised to fight against the current government and take revenge for the “killing of the colonel and his son Mutassim”. Some experts now suggest the Libyan conflict could now be prolonged and grow from a political into an interethnic struggle.

However, the “NATO rebels” (TNC) claim that Sayf-al-Islam was arrested along with Mu’ammar Qaddafi and Mutassim Qaddafi, while claiming that the latter two were murdered by them after being captured alive.

Thirty-nine-year-old Sayf-al-Islam is the second son of Mu’ammar Qaddafi and carried out public relations and diplomatic roles in recent years. Western-educated and the most-recognized member of the Qaddafi family, he was often viewed as Mu’ammar Qaddafi’s successor and a possible reformer, however he has always denied this.

Sayf-Al-Islam along with other brothers, in particular Khamis Al-Qaddafi and Mutassim Al-Qaddafi have been engaged in the armed popular resistance against the invasion and attempted occupation of Libya as well as Al-Qaida affiliated groups, mercenaries and former corrupt officials and criminal gangs, many of which had been set free during a betrayal by the United States, France, Britain and Italy which had, along with international banker elite financiers, become friends of the Qaddafi family in recent years.

During recent years, the revolutionary movement of the green committees — the Green Charter Movement or the “International Green March” — in particular the Libyan section of the movement, had all but been shut down by Sayf-al-Islam in order to win the favour and support of western countries to have peaceful relations.

Now Sayf-Al-Islam is considered the leader of the Libyan Jamahiriya in lieu of Mu’ammar Qaddafi who has taken leave from his position as leader of the Libyan revolution but is still considered by the Green Charter Movement as the leader of the world revolution which seeks its guidance from The Green Book.

Video shows a man from Sirte, with similar features to Mu’ammar Qaddafi but younger and shorter, being murdered by his rebel NTC captors who have committed horrific crimes for the past 8 months with NATO support.

Mu’ammar Qaddafi’s leadership of the movement is however largely symbolic in that he has already laid down the guiding principles of the movement, which membership derives from self-affirmation of the rights, freedoms and responsibilities of the Green Charter, and to work to attain those rights by way of forming green charter committeesand calling for popular participatory democracy by way of people’s conferences and people’s committees.

Prison Hell in America

“Prison is hell everywhere. America is no different in, by far, the world’s largest gulag. Inmates are treated worse than subhumans”, reports Stephen Lendman

by Stephen Lendman

Torture is commonly used. It not just at Guantanamo and similar offshore hellholes. It happens across America in federal, state and local prisons where inmates are terrorized by dogs, shocked with cattle prods, burned by toxic chemicals, harmed by stun guns, beaten, stripped naked, raped, and abused in other ways.

In July 2008, the Southern California ACLU (ACLU/SC) released a “Report on Mental Health Issues at Los Angeles County Jail.” It discussed how confinement in overcrowded conditions produces an epidemic of unaddressed mental health issues.

It also addressed excessive staff abuse, including beatings, compounded by the stress of overcrowding and deputy or inmate-on-inmate violence.

A previous article discussed it, accessed through the following link:

On September 28, New York Times writer Jennifer Medina headlined, “Report Details Wide Abuse in Los Angeles Jail System,” saying:

According to an ACLU/SC report, “(o)ne inmate said he was forced to walk down a hallway naked after sheriff’s deputies accused him of stealing a piece of mail.”

Another said “deputies….slammed his head into a wall and repeatedly punched him in the chest” for protesting  guard treatment of a mentally ill prisoner.

As a result of daily abuse, the ACLU/SC will “file (suit) in Federal District Court here on Wednesday. The Los Angeles County jail system, the nation’s largest, is also (the) most troubled, according to lawyers, advocates and former law enforcement officials.”

Retired LA office FBI official Tom Parker called the “situation, the length of time it has been going on, the volume of complaints, and the egregious nature much, much worse than anything (he’s) ever seen.”

“They are abusing inmates with impunity, and the worst part is that they think they can get away with it.”

A new ACLU/SC report discussed it, headlined, “Cruel and Usual Treatment: How a Savage Gang of Deputies Controls LA County Jails.”

On September 28, an accompanying press release called “for the resignation of Sheriff Lee Baca today following” the report’s release.

The ACLU/SC accused him and his criminal gang of deputies of “a pattern of severe and pervasive abuse” inflicted on inmates. In turn, Baca ignored and covered up claims of brutality.

ACLU/SC’s legal director Peter Eliasbery said he “bears ultimate responsibility for the horrific details we uncovered….and must step down. Deputy-on-inmate- abuse has reached levels we’ve never seen before.”

Chaplains, other civilian employees, and hundreds of prisoners are telling ugly truths about “unprovoked, excessive force and abuse against inmates, many of whom are not resisting.”

Describing a beating he witnessed, Chaplain Paulino Juarez said:

“To this day, recalling the beating brings tears to my eyes, and I cannot finish talking about it without taking a few moments to compose myself.”

Chaplain Doe described another one, saying:

“I was so shocked that despite the deputies seeing me watch them beat up an inmate, they continued to kick and beat him. It was like they didn’t even care that there was a witness.”

Former FBI official Thomas Parker said:

“The voluminous evidence I have reviewed cries out for an independent, far-reaching, and in-depth investigation by the Federal Government.”

The ACLU/SC said:

“To be an inmate in the Los Angeles County jails is to fear attacks.”

Esther Lim ACLU/SC Jails Project Coordinator witnessed a “savage beating” of an immobile (perhaps unconscious) inmate. She saw two deputies repeatedly punch and knee him lying face down on the floor.

He was inert like “a mannequin that was being used as a punching bag.” They persisted anyway. One of them Tasered him “again and again.” Although the inmate was lifeless, they repeatedly yelled, “stop fighting! (and) “stop resisting!”

Prison volunteer Scott Budnick saw seven deputies repeatedly Taser a motionless inmate. When he told another deputy, he responded: “Yeah, we fuck these guys up all the time.”

In the past year alone, rogue deputies assaulted hundreds of non-resisting inmates, according to chaplains, other civilians and prisoners.

In fact, anything can provoke abuse or nothing at all. Deputies attacked inmates for complaining about missing property, requesting medical treatment, or for their race or ethnicity.

Prisoners in wheelchairs were beaten. “Many attacks are unprovoked. Nearly all go unpunished.” Higher-ups cover up and deny them, refusing to acknowledge their pervasiveness.

Deputy-on-inmate and inmate-on-inmate violence and abuse are out-of-control. Nothing this extreme should be permitted, yet it continues unchallenged.

Deputies beat and kick inmates. They slam their heads into walls and windows. They Taser them unprovoked. They use other prisoners to do their dirty work. Examples are numerous.

One or more times, one inmate sexually assaulted another with a broomstick. Another was raped with his head forced down a flushing toilet. “All of this occurred with the apparent cooperation of LASD employees.”

Shocking injuries resulted, including a fractured jaw, broken collarbone, eye wounds requiring surgery, broken blood vessels, bruised ribs, a lacerated tongue, and extended dizzy spells.

Scores of sworn statements attested to these abuses and others, including seven or eight deputies severely beating a non-resisting inmate, inflicting multiple injuries.

One inmate was beaten so badly he lost consciousness and woke up in a hospital with blood over his chest. A handcuffed juvenile was pummeled in the stomach. Open wounds are inflicted requiring stitches.

The ACLU/SC said it documented deputy abuses in LA County for years. “But this year is a watershed: it marks the first time that civilian witnesses have come forward (with) reports of deputy violence against non-resisting inmates.”

They and others confirm a pervasive culture of violence. Deputies brazenly attack inmates in full view of witnesses.

An unlikely source provided more evidence. LASD deputies revealed abuses by others. “They describe colleagues who treat acts of deputy-on-inmate violence as badges of honor, and spur each other to commit violent assaults.”

It’s so unchecked that some deputies attack others. Numerous accounts attest to “deputy violence run amok.” It’s gone on for years unchecked with no remediation.

Some attacks required multiple surgeries. Others inflict long-lasting or permanent injuries. Most leave psychological scars.

Inmate Juan Pablo Reyes was repeatedly punched and kicked in the ribs, back, mouth, and eyes, breaking his eye socket, and leaving him badly bruised and injured.

When he fell, deputies kicked him with steel-toed boots, ignoring his cries. They then stripped him naked, forced him to walk up and down a hallway in full view of other prisoners, then put him in a cell to be sexually assaulted by other inmates “off and on for a day.”

“Deputies repeatedly pit inmates against other inmates, using them as pawns to carry out acts of violence.”

Besides numerous forms of abuse, deputies terrorize inmates by verbal threats. The environment is pervasive, out-of-control, and longstanding. As a result:

“Today (September 28), the ACLU/SC is filing, with the federal court in Rutherford v. Baca, seventy sworn declarations from civilian eyewitnesses, former prisoners, and current prisoners who have witnessed deputy-on-inmate assaults, and threats of violence, been assaulted by deputies or both, at the time it is publishing this report.”

A Final Comment

LA County prison hell is replicated across America. Cruel and unusual treatment persists. Cover-up is standard procedure. So is indifference. Legal restraints are ignored.

Out of sight and mind behind bars leaves nonviolent inmates scared for life. Some never recover. No one gets out unscathed.

America’s criminal justice system falls short of meeting international human rights standards. Systemic torture in LA County is one example, one of the worst.

Police State Justice Under Obama

Stephen Lendman

Lawlessness, injustice, and contempt for democratic values define his administration. He delivered change all right – for the worst, and nothing ahead looks promising.

Obama-style “rules of engagement” include bullets, bombs, slit throats, knives in the back, or drone attacks justice.

Targeted victims are declared guilty by accusation. Due process and judicial fairness are discarded artifacts. US citizens are as vulnerable as global enemies.

No one is safe anywhere in a world ruled by rogue leaders, taking the law into their own hands with impunity.

As a result, freedom and security were jettisoned to memory hole oblivion. Let’s count the ways.

Muslims are targeted for their faith, ethnicity, and at times prominence and charity.

Torture remains official US policy.

America’s domestic and overseas gulags match the worst anywhere. Out of sight and mind, inmates are dehumanized and brutalized.

America’s business is war and grand theft globally. Countries are raped and pillaged on the pretext of humanitarian intervention.

Everyone except corporate favorites and complicit elites suffer.

Ten Muslim Southern California students were convicted for exercising their First Amendment rights. Others are hunted down and prosecuted ruthlessly for political advantage.

Thousands of political prisoners suffer unjustly, including undocumented Latinos here because destructive trade pacts destroyed their livelihoods.

State-sponsored murder is official policy. Innocent victims include Troy Anthony Davis. Others wait their turn on death row. Federal, state and local authorities call it justice. Human rights activists call it crimes against humanity.

Murdering Anwar Al-Awlaki

CIA operatives and Special Forces death squads are authorized to kill US citizens abroad. For any reason or none at all without evidence, they’re hunted down and murdered in cold blood.

Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki was a US citizen living in Yemen, targeted for opposing US belligerency, not alleged or committed crimes.

His murder and others put Americans and everyone at risk globally if outspoken against imperial Washington lawlessness, including waging permanent global wars against humanity to profit handsomely from wreckage spoils.

After him, who’s next? Maybe writers expressing outraged criticism. Maybe media hosts on air, and speakers justifiably denouncing rogue crimes.

Under Obama-style justice, they’re potential targets, putting everyone at risk for speaking publicly against rampaging government criminality. Administration and congressional officials are recklessly out-of-control and unhinged, without morals or ethics. They fail to distinguish between right and wrong.

In September 2009, it was learned that then Central Command head (now CIA boss) General David Petraeus issued secret orders to covertly deploy US Special Operations forces to 75 or more Middle East, Central Asia, and Horn of Africa countries.

By implication, it meant anywhere in the world to “penetrate, disrupt, defeat or destroy” terror threats and “prepare the environment” for planned military attacks.

In other words, to make the world safe for Wall Street banks, war profiteers, and other Western capitalist predators.

Previous attempts to kill Al-Awaki failed, even though international human rights law permits lethal force in peacetime only when imminent deadly attack threats exist. Even then, killing is a last resort after other exhausting other measures.

Under international or US law, designating US citizens or anyone terrorists based on suspicions without proof is egregious by any standard. Moreover, no one should be denied due process and judicial fairness.

The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) condemned Al-Awlaki’s killing, saying:

“The assassination of Anwar Al-Awlaki by American drone attacks is the latest of many affronts to domestic and international law, said Vince Warren,” CCR Executive Director.

“The targeted assassination program that started under (Bush) and expanded under Obama essentially grants the executive” extralegal judge, jury, and executioner power.

“If we allow such gross overreaches of power to continue, we are setting the stage for increasing erosions of civil liberties and the rule of law.”

Post-9/11, in fact, rule of law justice was trashed for political expediency. It no longer applies when unchallenged under presidential supremacy authority.

Obama elevated Bush era lawlessness to a higher level. As a result, no one anywhere targeted can hide or get justice.

Political Washington praised Al-Awlaki’s murder. Falsely accusing him of crimes, Obama called it a “major blow” against Al Qaeda, vowing to target anyone America (without evidence) calls part of a global terrorist network.

US major media scoundrels approved, including a Washington Post editorial headlined, “Killing of Anwar al-Aulaqi was clearly justified,” saying:

Doing so “was clearly justified, both legally and morally. (He) was dangerous, (and) Obama was right to place him on a target list. Considerable evidence supports the administration’s contention that (he) played a direct role in attempted attacks on the United States, including the failed bombing of an airplane on Christmas day 2009…”

Fact check

Killing Al-Awlaki was morally indefensible extralegal murder. No evidence whatever connected him to crimes.  He had nothing to do with the alleged Amsterdam-Detroit bound Christmas day incident.

The alleged culprit, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a Nigerian citizen, was set up. Denied a UK entrance visa, he avoided a no fly list. He paid cash for a one-way ticket, checked no luggage, had a US visa but no passport, and was helped on board by a well-dressed Indian gentleman, facilitating Washington’s false flag plot. Abdulmutallab was used as a convenient dupe.

Moreover, his so-called (PETN) explosive was so weak and technically deficient it failed to go off properly, and its fire cracker strength assured no possibility of damaging the aircraft, let alone down it.

“Perhaps more significant, (Awlaki), a charismatic teacher and fluent English speaker was instrumental in inspiring would-be jihadists in the United States and other Western countries….”

Fact check

No evidence proves he inspired violence anywhere. Moreover, whether in or out of the country, America’s Constitution protects First Amendment rights without which all others are at risk – including Washington Post editorial writers’ freedom to wrongfully slander Al-Awlaki and call murder justified.

Calling him dangerous, however, “(h)e was consequently a legal and justified target of American forces, acting under the international principle of self-defense….”

Fact check

Unproved accusations have no legal validity. A serial aggressor, America never acts in self-defense. Moreover, individuals or groups defending themselves against US attacks are called “terrorists,” including by major media op-ed and editorial writers, lying to support wealth and power.

On September 30, ACLU Deputy Legal Director Jameel Jaffer explained what media scoundrels won’t say: namely that:

Targeted killing “violates both US and international law.”

ACLU National Security Project Litigation Director Ben Wizner added:

“If the Constitution means anything, it surely means that the President does not have unreviewable authority to summarily execute any American (or anyone else) whom he concludes is an enemy of the state.”

Doing so makes him a war criminal – an enemy of rule of law justice.

A Final Comment

Obama’s lawlessness also embraces Military Commissions justice. It includes sweeping unconstitutional powers to detain, interrogate, and prosecute alleged suspects and collaborators (including US citizens), hold them (without evidence) indefinitely in military prisons, and deny them habeas and other constitutional protections.

The Military Commissions Act also authorized torture to extract confessions and other extralegal police state powers, including denying speedy trials or any at all.

In May 2009, Obama also authorized preventive detentions of anyone “who cannot be prosecuted yet who pose a clear danger to the American people,” even with no evidence proving it.

Whether short, long-term or indefinite, preventive detentions violate core legal principles, including the Constitution’s Fifth Amendment, stating:

“No person….shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law….”

Indefinite detentions, military tribunals, targeted assassinations, and other extralegal policies are indefensible in democratic civil societies.

Under Obama, however, they’re official policy.

As a result, out-of-control executive power threatens everyone, especially when cheerled by media scoundrels.

On The Campaign Trail of “Dr” K A Paul

An Indian converted Christian pastor from Andra Pradesh with a U.S. American passport continues to leave a trail of unpaid bills, fraudulent activities, deception and out right lies in front of media, while seeking shelter in Sudan

Mathaba has been on the “campaign” trail of “Dr” K A Paul, true and continued passport name Anand Kilari, since late August 2011.

We have uncovered an amazingly brazen trail of deception by Kilari, which includes outright and verifiable lies in front of Indian government ministers, television media, and the Mathaba News Agency.

Claiming that Hillary Clinton is out to kill him, Anand Kilari who insists people refer to him as “Dr K A Paul”, claims that he attempted to get Muammar Qaddafi to “step down” from power, although he met Qaddafi only once, sometime around 2005, and not this year.

Kilari is also attempting to get his grounded Boeing 747 flying again — the aircraft was purchased years ago in bad shape, from the donations of wealthy Americans who wished to sponsor his orphanage and “Little Teresa” programs in India.

Mathaba has obtained recordings of his political activities during his short visit to India early October, including conversations with Indian VIPs, and his attempts to enter Indian politics while ostensibly working to “move the United Nations to India”.

He solicited the cooperation and assistance of Mathaba services, now owing in excess of $5,000 in unpaid bills, for his “Global Peace Initiative”, claiming that the “only person in the world equal or superior to him, is Colonel Muammar Qaddafi”.

However, his activities in Africa, in Liberia, Libya and Sudan, can only be described as disastrous to those countries, as shall be revealed in a forthcoming series of articles exposing the deceptive works of the international confidence trickster, who already has a horrific reputation including child molestation.

His latest failed plans included currying favor with the Qaddafi family, having failed in 2005 to obtain money to re-float his Boeing 747 which was grounded that same year, and to obtain a meeting with South African President Jacob Zuma in order to get his hands on “millions” of the billions of dollars of frozen Libyan assets.

Mathaba may investigate the relationships and friendships claimed by Kilari, his deceptions and strategies, and make available recorded evidence in an upcoming series if this is deemed to be in the public interest. Investigations are currently ongoing.

An excerpt from hours of audio/visual recordings of K A Paul’s deceptions

We will invite the entire IT groups of the city (Hyderabad), the entire IT groups of Andra (Pradesh). With Kapil Sibal as special guest. First thing: automatically if Kapil comes, CM [Chief Minister of Andra Pradesh] has to come. Protocol. Can even be the number two guest. Kapil Sibal is number one guest, local head of state is number two guest. [Politician] is number three, [politician name] is number four. [Politician name] is number six, we will decide. [Indistinct] or if Kapil Sabil comes there. If they don’t come, it becomes [indistinct]. Understand the strategy? […] While it is hot, we have to strike.

He [Kapil Sabil] will say send invitation. Please connect me to Pandasi [Pandit N. K. Sharma, 6-year friend of Kilari, 10-year friend of Kapil Sabil, India’s Human Resources Development Minister], I will tell him to call [Kapil Sabil] as he is meeting him today, 2.30. Kapil Sabil [indistinct] decide a date. He will say Doctor Paul has not spoken to me then I will say “My brother, how are you? You are a Prime Minister candidate, […] God has a plan for you, come here, we’ll discuss. I am Dr. Paul… good idea? The team is getting read, no distraction!

The recordings show Kilari continued with a call to Pandit N. K. Sharma, who was unable to obtain the interest of Kapil Sabil, who as a Minister has likely already done his research into “Dr K A Paul” and decided meeting the charlatan would not be worth his time. Kilari put a brave face on it, and moved on to his next plan, bringing Sudanese Parliamentary Speaker Mahdi Ibrahim to India (this too did not work out), and how to obtain “millions” from South African President Jacob Zuma, who he hopes to meet by using renowned U.S. former Congressman Walter Fauntroy, the first Black American Congressman, to meet Bishop Desmond Tutu and South African former President Nelson Mandela, as a bridge.

History Repeating Itself: U.S. Hawks Hover Over Iran

By William Echols

-Whether calls for war against Iran are meant to placate American allies in the Middle East who cannot stomach its supposed nuclear ambitions, are an attempt to reassert US dominance in the oil rich region, or are the last signs of a flagging empire lashing out in self-denial, those who are longing for it to be morning again in America might very well expedite its imperial twilight.

History seems to be repeating itself as the hawks who called for the 2003 overthrow of Saddam Hussein are now rattling their sabers for war against Iran. But why are those who once called for a new American Century hopelessly stuck in a bygone era?

In a bellicose diatribe published in the latest edition of the Weekly Standard, senior editor William Kristol accuses Iran of having the blood of American soldiers on its hands. Claiming that “force” is the only language the regime understands, he proceeds to call on the US Congress to “consider authorizing the use of force against Iranian entities that facilitate attacks on our troops, against IRGC (Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps) and other regime elements that sponsor terror, and against the regime’s nuclear weapons program.”

In an October 17 Foreign Policy initiative (FPI) Bulletin, executive director Jamie Fly toes the same line, proclaiming:

“Until now, the president has chosen to be the hapless victim of Iran’s machinations. It is time for President Obama to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors and stand up to tyrants who kill Americans and threaten our interests.

“It is time to take military action against the Iranian government elements that support terrorism and its nuclear program. More diplomacy is not an adequate response.”

Speaking to Fox News on Monday, former US Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton said it was “unfortunate” that Iran did not fear a possible military response in light of recent allegations of an Iranian assassination plot on US soil. Somewhat ironically, Bolton also described President Barack Obama’s recent decision to send 100 troops to stem off a humanitarian crisis in Central Africa as “damaging to our efforts to preserve our military budget.”

It is little wonder that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad asserts the latest accusations that Iran sought to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the US was eerily reminiscent of the weapons of mass destruction claims which provided the casus belli for the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

“In the past the US administration claimed there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. They said it so strongly, they offered and presented documentation and everyone said ‘yes, we believe in you, we buy it’,” Ahmadinejad said in a live interview on Al Jazeera television.

Ahmadinejad’s cause for alarm might seem justified under the circumstances. Ever since George W. Bush’s January 29, 2002 State of the Union Address, wherein Iran (along with Iraq and North Korea) were labeled as the “Axis of Evil”, neo-conservative policy wonks and senior-level government officials have had the country in their sights. And much like Iraq, the case for war is as mercurial and adaptive as the public opinion it caters to.

Kristol for his part was one of the key proponents for regime change in Iraq, outlining the case in a 2003 book he co-authored entitled The War Over Iraq: Saddam’s Tyranny and America’s Mission. But his desire to effect regime change in the Middle East has earlier roots.

In a 1996 Foreign Affairs article, William Kristol, challenging what he believed was “a tepid consensus that accepts decline of US power in the world as inevitable,” called for a neo-Reaganite foreign policy which would pursue “benevolent hegemony” and “wield its authority unabashedly.”

By June 1997, William Kristol, along with several other prominent neo-conservatives who would have high-level administrative positions in the Bush administration (including Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, Donald Rumsfeld and Elliot Abrams), not to mention his brother Jeb Bush, signed off on a statement of principles intended to usher in this halcyon era of American military strength and moral clarity. This statement of principles would come to define the Project for a New American Century.

The four key principles called for increased defense spending and force modernization, the strengthening of ties with democratic allies and the willingness to confront regimes hostile to American interests, the promotion of political and economic freedom abroad, and the “need to accept responsibility for America’s unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles.”

Subsequently, on January 26, 1998, the group sent a letter to then-President Bill Clinton urging his administration to implement “a strategy for removing Saddam’s regime from power.”

The history of what happened when a sympathetic Bush administration coupled with the tragic events of 9/11 provided the pretext for implementing this neo-Reaganite foreign policy is well-trodden territory. The question is, why are they doing it again?

On most counts, the allegations against Iran seem to defy logic. Writing for Time Magazine, former CIA field officer Robert Baer claimed that the plot as described by FBI Director Robert Muller was something one might find in “a truly awful Hollywood script.” He went on to say that “none of it measures up to Iran’s unsurpassed skill in conducting assassinations.”

But while the idea of an Iranian-American used-car salesman attempting to organize a hit on the Saudi Arabian ambassador via the proxy of a Mexican drug cartel seems out of character for the fiercely professional Quds Force – a special unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard responsible for extraterritorial operations – the far-fetched tale seems a perfect match for the American imagination. Such a flourish for the theatrical has been on display before, most notably, when then US Secretary of State Colin Powell held up a vial he said could contain anthrax while speaking to the United Nations Security Council on February 5, 2003.

However, with US national debt at some 15 trillion dollars, a potential $1 trillion in defense spending cuts on the table, and a recent report carried out by the Eisenhower Research Project at Brown University predicting that the cost of war in Afghanistan and Iraq could reach some $4 trillion, does the American public have the stomach or the means to prosecute another war?

When taking all of those factors into account, the murky world of realpolitik and multilateralism that many neo-conservatives helped bring about by aggressively pushing America towards the brink of imperial overstretch during the Bush years does not sit well with an ideology that views the world within a good vs. evil binary. Kristol for his part saw America sinking into the abyss during an era when the United States economic and military dominance ushered the term hyperpower into the collective consciousness.

But as an entrenched economic crisis limits the United States’ ability to project its military dominance and a decade of war has evaporated its moral currency around the world, it has become clear that many of the neo-conservatives pushing for war against Iran now ultimately have their own chief ideologues to blame for America’s precipitous decline. Whether calls for war against Iran are meant to placate American allies in the Middle East who cannot stomach its supposed nuclear ambitions, are an attempt to reassert US dominance in the oil rich region, or are the last signs of a flagging empire lashing out in self-denial, those who are longing for it to be morning again in America might very well expedite its imperial twilight.
