Observers court controversy in Syria

Arab League team’s sluggish movement and the contentious remarks of head of the mission have fueled skepticism

Sure enough the Arab League were there to observe the bomb blast!

By Sami Moubayed

The Arab League Observer Mission has raised a stir since arriving in Syria last week. At first, the Syrian opposition welcomed them heartily, believing that they were there to stop the violence, and oversee implementation of an agreement that included an end to military operations and release of prisoners arrested for taking part in demonstrations since mid-March.

The appointment of Sudanese General Mustafa Al Dabi as head of the League delegation, however, raised red flags in the Syrian street. His appointment was very controversial — to say the least — given that he had served as military intelligence officer under Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir. A few years back, Al Dabi had barely escaped a warrant for his own arrest, similar to the one issued for Al Bashir by the International Criminal Court, for “genocide in Darfur”. His performance since arriving in Damascus did not help soothe the fears of his Syrian critics, especially after remarking that the situation in war-torn Homs was “reassuring”.

The word “reassuring” was hardly appropriate, after all, for a city that has seen a horrific death toll, been subject to intense military operations, and where sectarian violence has recently flared up between Sunnis and Alawites. Al Dabi, the Syrian opposition claimed, has neither the professional credentials to head the mission nor the moral fibre for such a job. Since he was his country’s ambassador to Qatar in 1999-2004, however, the Syrian government is also equally alarmed by his appointment. They see him as Qatar’s man on the League delegation — certainly worrying for Damascus.

Public opinion on the Syrian street is divided in evaluating the observer delegation. Some claim that the observers are nothing but a fabricated theatrical stunt, agreed upon behind closed doors between the Arab League and Syrian officialdom. Al Dabi will make sure that they do not author a report that is too critical of the Syrian government, they claim. When asked for evidence, these skeptics point to the observers’ sluggish movement and the controversial remarks of Al Dabi, which were music to the ears of Syrian authorities.

Seizing the moment…

They claim that the Arab League has been a failed organization from Day One, which never succeeded — not once in its 67-year history — in solving any Arab crisis. Others, however, believe the opposite. They argue that the observers are hiding behind niceties to first win the trust of the Syrian government, before coming up with a very critical report in February that will be used to internationalize the Syrian crisis, legitimizing it at the Security Council. That is what Scott Ritter did after all, when he served as weapons inspector to Iraq in 1991-1998, and this was repeated before 2003 by UN inspector Hans Blix.

Had it not been for Russian pressure, Syria would not have signed the MoU with the Arab League in December. The Russians insisted, claiming that Syria should not give the League any pretext to take the matter to the UN. If Arab cover was lifted, the Russians said that it would be very difficult to ward off a new UN Resolution, once it leaves rotating presidency of the Security Council on January 1. Syrian authorities at first were very critical of the three-page League protocol, and the observers, claiming that they infringed upon Syrian sovereignty. The original draft, they argued, did not recognize existence of the Syrian government, stating that the observers could travel as they pleased and meet whomever they wanted, without consultation with Syrian authorities.

Syria insisted that all activity within the country be done in coordination with the state — and the League, perhaps unwillingly, said yes. They then demanded that point of reference for the observer mission be League Secretary-General Nabeel Al Arabi and not Qatari Prime Minister Shaikh Hamad Bin Jasem Al Thani. Again, the League nodded affirmatively. They then asked that no Turkish observers be present on the mission, which the League also accepted. By accepting these four points, the League was actually conniving to pass what it considered more fundamental — open access to prisons and hospitals, approval for all international media to enter Syria, and UN-like immunity for the observers. At first glance, the League seemed to be caving in to Syrian conditions and pressure. A closer look, however, shows that they raised the bar with difficult conditions in order to get what they really wanted: access to Syria as a stepping stone towards the UN. We don’t know for sure whether the observers will complete their mission in Syria, and we don’t know what they will say in their report to Al Arabi.

What we do know is that certain heavyweights in the Arab League, like Saudi Arabia, are not playing games in the Syrian crisis. What is also apparent is that the world has given Russia a green light to find a solution for Syria, in accordance with the US. This solution — loosely coined “the Russian Initiative” — will try to hammer out a deal for Syria, similar to the Yemeni one. The Syrians will not accept giving the glory of a solution to the Americans, Qataris, or Turks, and that is why this deal will be packaged and marketed as a Russian project, from A to Z.

In Yemen, what happened was a win-win situation wherein neither side won or lost completely. The Russians are thinking of a similar outcome for Syria, but that can only see the light of day after the observer mission comes out with a report that perhaps — just perhaps — is satisfying for both the Syrian government, and the Syrian opposition. Only then will the Russians get real room to man-oeuvre.

US-Engineered Sanctions: No Coup De Grace For Iran

By Dr. Ismail Salami

US President Barack Obama on Saturday signed into law tough new sanctions against Iran targeting the country’s Central Bank and financial sector.

Will Washington dispense with a new round of sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran? Or will the warmongers in the White House march for war against the country?

In a dramatic move which was apparently contrary to his desire, US President Barack Obama on Saturday signed into law tough new sanctions against Iran targeting the country’s Central Bank and financial sector in a bid to administer an economic coup de grace against Iran.

Foreign firms are now to make a choice between doing business with the Iranian financial sector and Central Bank or the US economy and financial sector. In signing the bill, Obama harbored some secret fear that such an act would skyrocket the oil prices and that it would be terminally detrimental to the ailing economy of Washington as well as to global economy.

Needles to say, such a measure was encouraged and propelled by the warmongers in the White House and the powerful Zionist lobby.

The UN Security Council has already imposed four rounds of sanctions against Iran for 33 years, inflicting adverse damage on the economy albeit with no determining impact on the political approach of the country. However, decades of anti-Iran US-engineered sanctions have failed to stall the progress of the Islamic country which is moving towards self-sufficiency in all economic spheres. Therefore, Washington officials have been ill advised in believing that by slapping more sanctions on Iran, they will be able to bring to knees a nation who adheres to their ideology of no submission.

In a show of prodigious naval prowess, Iran launched a ten-day military drill codenamed Velayat 90 and successfully test-fired indigenous missiles e.g. a surface-to-sea Qader cruise missile, a shorter range Nasr and later, a surface-to-surface Nour missile and other warefares. Despite Washington’s claim that the naval exercises were a distracter from the US sanctions, they were in fact carried out under the prudent instructions of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who had ordered Iranian Armed Forces to be on alert and thwart any potential threat in view of the anti-Iran war rhetoric the US hawks have renewed in recent weeks.

In a military brinkmanship, Iran has announced that it will block the Strait of Hormuz if oil sanctions are imposed on the country. Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that closing the Strait of Hormuz is “as easy as drinking water for Iranian naval forces,” and that “we would close it if need be.”

In Iowa on Thursday when asked if Iran would be justified in responding to the sanctions by blocking the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, US Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul meticulously compared the Western sanctions to a hypothetical move by China to block the Gulf of Mexico, which Americans would consider an act of war. He also said the tough sanctions against Iran are “acts of war,” warning of a war with devastating consequences in the Middle East.

On Tuesday (December 30, 2011), the Iranian Navy identified and recorded footage of the USS John C. Stennis in the area where Iran was conducting military drills.

With commendable courage, Commander of Iran’s Army Major General Ataollah Salehi warned the US aircraft carrier not to return to the Persian Gulf, saying that Iran is not in the habit of repeating a warning.

The USS John C. Stennis left the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. One of the US navy’s biggest warships, the nuclear-powered vessel can accommodate around 3,300 personnel with the capability to carry 50 fighter jets and 6 helicopters.

The war of words which ensued between Iranian army commanders and the American military men testifies to the fact that the wall of fear has collapsed before the eyes of the Iranians and that the US is no longer seen as an indomitable enemy.

It is very painful to see that political ignorance is rife in the West and the Western powers are seeing the whole illusion of the saga of Iran threat through the purblind eyes of Washington. On Tuesday, France urged the EU to follow in the footsteps of the US government by slapping an embargo on its oil exports and freezing its Central Bank assets by next month, thereby crippling the entire economic system of the country.

French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said he was convinced “Iran is pursuing the development of its nuclear arms.”

US President Barack Obama on Saturday signed into law tough new sanctions against Iran targeting the country’s Central Bank and financial sector.

“I have no doubt about it… The last report by the International Atomic Energy Agency is quite explicit on this point,” he told French network i-Tele.

“This is why France, without closing the path of negotiation and dialogue with Iran, wants stricter sanctions,” he added.

To France and the rest of the West, Iran is essentially seen as a threat with or without a nuclear weapons program as they have been mainstreamed into this ill manner of thinking. Despite the fact that Iran has repeatedly announced that its nuclear program is geared for peaceful purposes, the West is reluctant to listen and instead turns a deaf ear to Iran and disregards the country’s efforts for nuclear transparency.

Clearly, sanctions are currently the only available tool in the hands of Washington but behind-the-scene efforts are being made to prove that sanctions cannot mollify the threat in the long run and that the threat of the so-called nuclear Iran will only be eliminated through a war thus justified thanks to the sinister powers long at work.

The table Washington has set for Iran seems to be big enough to hold more options for the Islamic Republic. This is a point Iran has grasped well and the ten-day military drill in the strategic Strait of Hormuz is to be taken as a message to the warmongers that threat is the only answer to threat.

The Zionist Mafia is Not a Religious or Racial Label

by Mike Stathis

As influential as these segments of society are, the control held by the Jewish mafia certainly does not end there. Their influence can be found in virtually every aspect of U.S. society. The same applies to Canada and Europe.

The Jewish mafia works in a unified manner in order to more easily achieve its objectives. Over the decades, this mafia has caused U.S. society has become weakened and perverted, both economically and morally, all while Jewish-controlled Wall Street, the Federal Reserve, media and government continue to defraud and deceive the people.

Perhaps the most tragic aspect of the Jewish mafia is that it has successfully duped the U.S. to fight wars for Israel. This has cost millions of lives, trillions of dollars, and a life time of suffering for the survivors. Without a doubt, America is headed towards complete economic and moral insolvency if something is not done to radically alter the power structure of the Jewish mafia from its reach into Washington.

As one delves into each segment of society to identify control by the Jewish mafia, we cannot forget that this vast crime syndicate rarely acts alone. Without the greed and criminality of gentiles, the Jewish mafia would be much less effective. Much of the same can be said about the victims of the Jewish mafia. As long as greedy, dishonest and naive people exist, the Jewish mafia will have plenty of victims.

The Jewish mafia continues to gain more power each day, without any challenge whatsoever. In past decades, they were careful to rule from the sidelines so as to avoid any notice by others. With each passing day, this mafia continues to take the spotlight as if to deliver the message that they don’t care if people realize they are in control of things.

Even Jewish-run New York Magazine recently published an article admitting that Obama was America’s first Jewish president. This is something I have been saying for a while now.

The arrogance exhibited by the Jewish mafia is somewhat justified. After all, they continue to defraud, exploit and deceive gentiles over and over without punishment or detection. Indeed, it would appear that the Jewish mafia has managed to cover all of the angles. This arrogance has extended into the deepest layers of the Israeli government.

One cannot criticize the control of the media, banking system, Wall Street, corporate America, the federal government, the educational system or corporate America by the Jewish mafia without facing a backlash of smearing, name-calling and threats. One cannot even raise the controversy of the Kosher tax by the Jewish mafia without being labeled as an anti-Semite.

In fact, simply for posting this article I have officially disqualified myself from ever being able to land a job in corporate America if by chance I would someday become desperate enough to want one.

Publishing articles exposing the Jewish mafia certainly has not helped my business since I am in the financial industry. In fact, I have sacrificed a huge amount of business as a result of exposing the truth few dare speak of. This is a direction I have chosen to take while realizing the consequences.

Does this sound like freedom to you?

Welcome to the United States, a nation that claims to offer democracy, freedom, a free market economy and the pursuit of happiness, but really only permits fascism, brainwashing and exploitation by corporate America and the Jewish mafia.

People had better damn well wake up and realize the root source of world destruction, decay and white-collar crime. Until they do, things will only get worse; that I will guarantee.

Whenever someone mentions the crimes of the Jewish mafia, criticizes their control over media, banks, and governments, most Jews feel the need to protect the Jewish name for fear of growing anti-Semitism. Some cry racism when they see the word Jews or Jewish discussed in the same sentence as crime, control, deceit, manipulation and every other designation that is not complimentary.

Often times, these accusations are made by Jews. Other times, these accusations are made by gentiles who have been brainwashed by Jewish control over media, pop culture, education and other variables that form societal norms.

While there are some Jews who courageously stand up against the Jewish mafia, unfortunately, most instances are directed specifically towards Zionism.

Whenever authors dare to expose the realities about Israel’s ethnic cleansing, 911, Wall Street fraud, control by the media and Washington corruption, they feel the need to replace the word “Jews” with “Zionists” for fear of being labeled an anti-Semite. However, the Zionist designation is often misused because it implies the villains are motivated to carry out crime and deception for the purposes of strengthening Israel or adding support to ethnic cleansing by Israel.

The problem is that much of the criminal activity committed by the Jewish mafia has little to do with Zionist or religious interests. The Jewish mafia consists of both Zionist and non-Zionist Jews. It also consists of both religious and atheist Jews. Finally, this mafia also consists of gentiles who have been recruited through the lure of money and power.

Just like every Jewish person is not part of the Jewish mafia, the crimes committed by Jews are not always inspired by Zionist or religious agendas. Wall Street and commercial banking fraud, media control and workplace discrimination are not necessarily Zionist-inspired conspiracies. Thus, I want to encourage people to not be afraid to link Wall Street fraud, Federal Reserve fraud, media fraud and manipulation to the Jewish mafia because Zionism is not a prerequisite for fraud.

When I speak of Jews with regards to criminal activity, I am not referring to the Judaism or Jews as a race (for those who hold the view that Jewish people are a distinct race). I am referring to the solidarity and cohesiveness which is responsible for the inner workings of the Jewish mafia. I am referring to Jewish networking that links both Zionist and non-Zionist Jews.

Whenever we see a collection of Christians or Muslims, or Blacks or Whites that have committed large-scale fraud or some other criminal or devious act, we normally do not think of the villains as a cohesive group bonded by race or religion (although there are certainly some exceptions). Therefore, in such cases, the criminals are identified as individuals, not their race or religious designation.

In contrast, when Jews are involved in criminal activities, many observers realize it is a result of a Jewish conspiracy. The reason for this is because no other group of people comes remotely close to the extent of networking and cooperation as the Jewish people. This is part of the Jewish culture that unifies both religious and non-religious Jews. In some respects, Jewish networking and criminal activities have also been encouraged from writings in the Talmud. In other cases, these criminal activities are unassociated with the Talmud.  As a result, whenever individuals point out the control over society by the Jewish mafia, people must not allow themselves to be fooled by the racial and religious shield of blame that is always utilized by the jewish mafia. We must focus on the criminals, their mechanisms and motivations.

That said, I would like to encourage all Jewish people who view themselves as honest individuals to first acknowledge the overwhelmingly disproportionate involvement of Jews in large-scale criminal activities, as well as economic, political and societal control over populations by Jewish mafia.

Next, these individuals must speak out against the countless crimes of the Jewish mafia rather than denying the facts and infiltrating groups in order to deflect criticism of the crimes of this mafia.

This is the only mechanism by which honest and noble Jewish individuals can distance themselves from any ties to the Jewish mafia. Otherwise, even the most innocent Jews who fail to acknowledge and protest the control and crimes of the Jewish mafia will be seen in the same light as the criminals, even if they have been exploited to the same extent as the rest of the 99%.

I know there are plenty of honest, hard-working and noble Jews out there. It’s time for you to come out and distance yourselves from the Jewish mafia before you are labeled as facilitators of this group.

When a Jewish individual denies the role of the Jewish mafia in world suffering, crime and exploitation as a manner by which to protect the Jewish name, they will be viewed as accomplices to these crimes even if they have suffered at the hands of the Jewish mafia. Attacking the police instead of the criminals only implicates the attackers as accomplices. This is a very important point that must be emphasized.

In my opinion, most people become anti-Semitic because no one likes to be exploited, defrauded and controlled. No sane person can claim that anti-Semitism has existed for centuries due to religious reasons.

The real source of anti-Semitism is a natural response to persistent crimes and exploitation at the hands of Jewish mafia. The Jewish mafia has throughout history pulled the same tricks. The U.S. just happens to be the latest victim.

“Anti-Semitism is nothing but the antagonistic attitude produced in the non-Jew by the Jewish group.  The Jewish group has thrived on oppression and on the antagonism it has forever met in the world…  the root cause is their use of enemies they create in order to keep solidarity.”

Albert Einstein, quoted in Collier’s Magazine, November 26, 1938

The Stealth Zionist War on Ron Paul

Newsweek/Daily Beast, The Phony Progressive Israeli Front Shows Its Colors

    by  Gordon Duff,  Senior Editor

You can take ibuprophen, even smoke crack…and the GOP is still there.  They just wont go away.

The endless blithering about a pack of cowards, morons and malcontents who want America to pay $12 bucks for gasoline and, as usual, go to war for Israel…taxing the poor to death, including the soldiers, while they line their pockets.

They call themselves “conservatives” as if their style of it were a good thing. First of all, none of them have a clue what it means.  What they want is new laws.

We elected Obama to undo what 8 years of “conservative” had done.  He has failed.  We need less and less “conservative, Obama is too “conservative.”

What the last few decades has taught…hasn’t anyone paid attention to ?

  • Conservatives threaten while others do the fighting

  • Conservatives talk about work while golfing and eating lunch all day. Others do the work

  • Conservatives don’t pay taxes…they print counterfeit money and borrow from China

  • Conservatives are the same old Washington crowd, child pornography, rent boys, spying for Israel, lying with every breath, all done with a bible in their hands and a preacher at their side that none of us would let one of our children get near.

  • Conservative means foreign rule and staggering debt. It means 99% working for the 1%

  • Conservative also means lies.  The “liberal press” is owned entirely by “conservatives.”

‘ They’ want to put Ron Paul in a padded cell – when we really need to put ‘ Them’ in there, instead. All in favor say Aye!

In a nation where our primary problem is crime, meaning that our entire financial system is operated by gangsters who belong in prison, working hand in hand with politicians that should be sharing cells with them.

Add in military leaders who belong in there with them and an “official press” that is half a step above terrorists, being preached to day and night is making my head hurt.

Do Gingrich and Santorum exist so that Bachmann and Palin will appear less like sub-normal and patently dangerous blithering idiots?

And then why do presidential candidates have to ‘kiss the Zionist ring’ by making the obligatory pilgrimage to Israel.

They all debase American by agreeing to wear the beanie in a photo op to prove their subservience and acknowledgement that ALL must pledge allegiance to Israel or you cannot run for president, realistically.

I can almost imagine Romney simply because he looks like a politician, pointless, gutless and like so many others, dedicated to nothing whatsoever other than continuing the charades:

  • Pretending Israel isn’t taking our foreign aid and buying congress to get even more money, we call it pump priming and everyone involved, congress, Israelis, all belong in prison

  • Pretending American weapon, cluster bombs, white phosphorous, are being used by Israel on their civilian population based on “religious differences”

  • When is congress going to stop hiring Israeli firms to advise them on Middle East policy and counter-terrorism?

Who is Dancing Now – And for Whom?

I’m sorry, but when a New York City detective calls me and tells me that they arrested the 9/11 terrorists but had to put them on a plane to fly to Israel afterward.

They were forced to release them by a mayor and police commissioner who became wealthy beyond measure fighting the same terrorists they ordered released.

Of course this is all ‘classified information’ now, you know…to protect the American people. Yes, they are still using that con, and it is still working for them.

This all reminds me of the reports that came out this last week, that FBI Director Louis Freeh ordered agents to stop a weapons and money laundering sting one day before nailing the Newt Gingrichs on video.

For years, FBI agents have been told to look the other way.  One crew was paying those we were told were 9/11 terrorists.  They were told to be silenced.

I can still picture the planeload of terrorists heading for Tel Aviv, film of the planted explosives, some released with tons of explosives and machine guns, all living the lives of heroes after having murdered 3000 Americans.

I learn more about being “conservative” every day and wonder why we just don’t string all of them up.  I want trials and arrests, of course, not real trials.  I want “tribunals,” with no witnesses, no lawyers, no appeals, just executions, midnight arrests after doors are kicked down, the way “conservatives” have their henchmen do it.

It seems even Obama, who may not do this, won’t restore America’s laws after they were twisted into an unrecognizable slop by “conservatives.” Don’t tell me you are conservative.  It is simply another way of saying “thief and child molester.”

Back to “Ron Paul.”  It’s been one of those mornings.  I read the Iowa news.  I never should have done that.

Who is Stringing Who Along – This Election Cycle?

The video below is one of the endless series of stealth attacks against Ron Paul by what should be his real base.  Paul is hardly a conservative.  He is the only real progressive, liberal candidate out there despite his own misrepresentations.

“A Plain Jane?” – Oh No…No Way!

The one you will be seeing comes from what Americans should know of as the Mafia, were the truth to get out.

It is a “hit job” by organized crime, in this case, Jane Harmon and here phony “liberal” gang at Newsweek.

His accused racism is 99% “pro-American” and advocating a foreign policy that is no longer under the control of extremist organizations claiming to be “pro-Israel”.

Nobody is willing to admit, other than author Jeff Gates, that these organization are historically tied to organized crime.

American Jews, 78% at least, are Obama supporters and many may well support Paul. Veterans Today is seeing massive support for Paul among active duty and veterans.

YouTube – Veterans Today –

The idea that years later there are still people trying to use the word “conservative” as though it doesn’t mean “slave to Israel” and “ignorant bumpkin.”

The country club gang, the tax cheats, the boys who sent our jobs overseas, those making a living running phony job scams, repossessing houses, running up credit card fees, this is our “conservatives”, these and the meth dealing hillbillies who sit up all night worried about the rich being taxed out of existence while waiting for their SSI check.

Of the entire republican party, only Romney has ever had an actual job.  He isn’t qualified for public office, lacking leadership, vision, character and a philosophy that would lead to something other than the destruction of the human race.

He is the best offered other than Paul who I think needs to cut down on his coffee a bit before putting the tongue into gear.

What you just saw disgusts us for a variety of reasons, primary of which is that the things Ron Paul is saying here is what proves to us that he isn’t utterly insane like the other candidates.

Veterans Today is Negotiating with Iran to Head up Recruiting of American Zionist Jews and NeoCons for the new “Rick Santorum Brigade”

We are willing to let Rick Santorum lead the invasion of Iran personally as he has promised to do.  I will personally buy his ticket and will call Iran myself to make sure his visa is stamped.

He is unlikely to get in any other way.

We wish Paul would speak openly about 9/11, openly about torture and war crimes and how many of his colleagues in government belong in prison and not on America’s welfare roles.

I don’t see Paul as perfect but compared to everyone else, he isn’t insane.

I also am very proud that one candidate has taken on a our real foreign enemy, the criminal organization that tries to pass itself off as the Israel lobby, the gangsters and financial robbers who are tearing the world apart and destroying the good names of Jews who have been loyal Americans since the founding fathers.

This one, this “video,” of course, is a sneak attack from Jane Harmon, the muscle behind the war lobby in Washington, perhaps the single individual who sits at “ground zero” of “fairyland central”.

She heads up the sleazy, phony left wing bull and the heart of anti-American propaganda that represent what The Daily Beast and Newsweek is all about. It doesn’t take a genius to recognize a “mouthpiece” for a foreign terrorist asset when one sees it.

Ron Paul can be fixed, all he needs is real support and some new backbone.

Obama, intelligent though he is, has been unable to get out from under the thumb of Bush doctrines and the threats and bullying that has kept America from overriding any of the Bush dictatorship.

With martial law in the United States signed into effect 2 days ago without one in a hundred Americans knowing, the foolishness and ignorance of the Harmon/Murdoch syndicate and their gangster friends means very little in real life.

Americans who used to fear terrorists now fear running out of fuel and food money before the end of the month.

2012 – Darkness and Bottom Up Change We Can Believe In

Ron Paul (Click to enlarge)

by Allen L Roland

As the dark storm clouds of an economic depression and perhaps war with Iran bring down the curtain on 2011 ~ be aware that 2012 will initially bring deeper economic stress and turmoil ~ but out of that cocoon of darkness will finally emerge the change that millions of Americans voted for in 2008 and never received from a president who failed to deliver and never stopped campaigning:

Make no mistake about it, 2012 has emerged from the blackness of a growing depression, which the White House still refuses to acknowledge ~ a depression that won’t be obvious until Americans are hit with a sledgehammer of reality which includes the fact that US government census figures reveal that 1 in 2 Americans have fallen into poverty or are struggling to live on low incomes.

Here’s some reality ~ The true unemployment rate is nearly 23%(according to if it was calculated the way Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported it in 1994 and earlier. See story

As Charlie McGrath, founder of Wide Awake News, explains ~ “Our nation is an empire in decline and there is a reason most of us have no idea what is going on. The lame stream media has us all focusing the latest trends and people fighting over shoes, while our rights are usurped and our government involves us in ever more conflicts overseas. We are spread way too thin and we are losing the freedoms we were supposedly fighting for.People are going to start waking up, but NOT because CNN, FOX, or MSNBC decided to actually start informing people. They are going to wake up because they’ve been hit with a sledgehammer of reality...”     7 minute video

That long overdue wake up call will also include President Obama who will realize too late that his only base is the Wall Street corporate establishment ~ which is notoriously fickle when they realize their candidate is deeply wounded.

The time for the truth and transparency is now as we creep into 2012 and the immediate start of the Presidential primaries. In that regard, a vote for Ron Paul in the primaries is a vote against the establishment and the special interest groups that have hijacked our Republic as well as both parties.

The establishment is rightly afraid if not terrified of the possibility of President Ron Paul because his platform is largely in sync with what the vast majority of Americans want and have not received under the Obama administration. The Republican right wing is in lockstep with the corporate establishment and committed to the status quo ~ and they also fear a Paul presidency.

I’ll humorously make my point by parodying the great movie about the final days of Hitler’s regime, titled “Downfall”, with clever subtitles. (This is the famous scene from the movie where Hitler is told that Berlin’s defenses have evaporated and the Thousand Year Reich is doomed) ~ but here Hitler apparently wants to support Newt so the corporate establishment can stay in control 4 minute video

Here’s some more reality regarding Obama ~ The last day of 2011 was also the last day of representative democracy in America, as Corporate Puppet President Barack Obama chose the New Year’s Eve holiday to sign the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (H.R.1540) into law ~ with little if any comments from the lame stream press.

Along with signing NDAA, Obama released a Presidential Signing Statement in which he assured “Moreover, I want to clarify that my Administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens.  Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a Nation.”

That may sound reassuring, but it doesn’t mean much. Presidential Signing Statements are political documents that have no Constitutional basis and do not modify the laws to which they refer.  In these Orwellian times, Obama’s empty promise that we have nothing to worry about should warn us that in fact we have plenty to worry about. It’s also is another example of the classic Obama straddle ~ where he appears to be taking a stand on principle after the bill passes and thus he doesn’t have to take responsibility for its consequences and can blame Congress if the people revolt even though he approved the bill.

As Michel Chossudovsky writes “To say that January 1st 2012 is “A Sad Day for America” is a gross understatement. The signing of NDAA (HR 1540) into law is tantamount to the militarization of law enforcement, the repeal of the Posse Comitatus Act and the Inauguration in 2012 of Police State USA.  As in Weimar Germany, fundamental rights and freedoms are repealed under the pretext that democracy is threatened and must be protected.
The NDAA is “Obama’s New Year’s Gift” to the American People”.  See story

Mike Whitney correctly writes ~ “Ron Paul is the only antiwar candidate who has a (microscopic) chance of winning in 2012. He’s also the only candidate who will make an effort to restore the Bill of Rights and reverse Congress’s decision to allow the president to “indefinitely” imprison American citizens without due process. For these reasons alone, Paul should garner the support of leftists, liberals, and progressives.”

The time for the truth and transparency is now at hand as we nervously creep into 2012 ~ a vote for Ron Paul in the Iowa caucus is an important first step against the establishment and status Quo ~ as well as the special interest groups that have not only  hijacked our Republic but are responsible for the Militarization of our Homeland.

As Robert Naiman, writes in Truthout: “While media may miss this story now, if election-night exit polls show antiwar Democrats and independents gave Paul the margin of victory, that story will appear in media around the world.”

Little by little, in the name of fighting terrorism, our Bill of Rights is being repealed…. The Patriot Act, as bad as its violation of the 4th Amendment, was just one step down the slippery slope. The recently passed [NDAA] continues that slip toward tyranny and in fact accelerates it significantly…. The Bill of Rights has no exemption for ‘really bad people’ or terrorists or even non-citizens. It is a key check on government power against any person. This is not a weakness in our legal system; it is the very strength of our legal system.”  Congressman Ron Paul

Palestinian Spring, When?

A Palestinian Spring; When?

One would think that out of all the countries and people, albeit “invented” in the Middle East, the Palestinians would be leading the way to a full Arab Spring, Fall, Summer and Winter until the armed and colonial Jewish Occupation comes to an end. Surprisingly, this has not been the case.

More surprising is the fact that after meeting in Cairo a couple of weeks ago, Palestinian leadership, both Fatah and Hamas, had talks of holding elections! As if the elections of a government in the service of a Jewish Occupation is the most pressing issue at hand for Palestinians—more pressing than ending the Jewish Occupation.

The Oslo Accords, an outcome of the so-called ‘peace process’ not only killed any chance at ending the longest military and colonial occupation in modern times—it also killed and snuffed out the First Palestinian Intifada, truly the first Arab Spring.

25 years later, the Arab Spring has swept across the Arab world, bringing an end to dictatorial and criminal regimes in Libya, Egypt, and Tunisia and soon in Yemen and Syria—regimes that are no less ruthless and criminal than the Zionist regime in Israel that maintains a brutal occupation on the Palestinian people.

The late Yasser Arafat and his lieutenant Khalil al-Wazir (Abu-Jihad), and perhaps the entire PLO leadership, were caught off guard when Palestinians in Gaza ignited the First Intifada in 1987 with civil uprising and general strikes spreading to the West Bank surprising Israel with its army of informers and Shin Bet. What was not so surprising was the merging of interests of both the Israeli and Palestinian leadership—both wanted to see an end to this popular uprising.

Yitzhak Rabin—the man who won the Noble Peace Prize promised to break the bones of all Palestinians who throw rocks at the Israeli army, and so he did with cameras rolling. Yasser Arafat who also won the Noble Peace Prize was desperate to take over the Intifada and ride the wave of survival after leaving the debacle of Beirut.

Yasser Arafat and the Palestinian leadership spent years neglecting Palestinian needs and interests, squandering tens of billions of dollars, with efforts characterized by failure and defeat to Palestinians in the Diaspora. With the First Intifada, Yasser Arafat noticed those Palestinians living under Jewish Occupation and a chance to go for another ride—a chance to stay in business.

Money poured in to the Occupied Palestinian Territories to hijack the Intifada, recruit membership into Fatah, to take over and influence the uprising. Millions were also passed on to run and operate media and newspapers in support of Fatah and the PLO. All that paid off well in Oslo for both Israel and Palestinian leadership.

The Oslo Accords with its false hopes and lies killed any and all chances for the people to take to the streets in massive civil disobedience and uprising and put an end to the Jewish Occupation. Oslo was the product of an incompetent, corrupt leadership that was unable to negotiate an end to the Occupation. 20 years later, they are still at it, and the Occupation continues to be further entrenched, with no end in sight.

As a result of Oslo, the Palestinian Authority took over the civil and security functions of the Israeli Occupation, and the Palestinian people, particularly those in Ramallah and those connected to the Palestinian Authority, became enslaved to monthly salaries, drowning in massive personal debt thanks to a housing market and an consumer economy funded by Palestinian Oligarchs who had vested interests in Israeli settlements to the tune of $2.5 billion.

The Palestinian leadership is making sure there will be no Third Intifada—no Palestinian Spring—as this would bring an end not only to the terms of Oslo, but also to the Palestinian Authority, PLO, Fatah, Hamas, and to the many NGOs that are beneficiaries of the ongoing Jewish Occupation.

Many key people within the Palestinian Authority, the Oslo Team, its civil and security arms were recruited during the First Intifada and will not jeopardize the benefits and the VIP privileges they have under Oslo. They will not jeopardize these by helping to organize an Uprising…they are too busy spreading corruption to maintain their own survival.

The late Yasser Arafat thought he could outfox his Israeli partners and masters when he encouraged the Second Intifada, which was ignited after the provocative visit to Al-Aqsa Mosque by the leader who now rests in a permanent vegetative state, Ariel Sharon. The Israeli Army killed scores of Palestinians in September 2000 and an armed conflict ensued until 2005 when a truce was reached between Israel and the PLO leadership.

In contrast to the First Intifada, the Al-Aqsa Intifada saw the active and reckless mismanagement of Fatah and the PLO leadership, who led an uprising without a master plan, without objectives, and without discipline. Rather than challenging the Jewish Occupation and leading the uprising and organizing a march of millions of unarmed Palestinians to Jerusalem, the Palestinian leadership retreated behind the walls of cowardice.

For sure someone from within Fatah and the PLO leadership knew the whereabouts of Marwan Bargouthi and led the Israelis to his arrest. The Second Intifada was nothing short of total disaster.

Israel—with much vengeance—went on to destroy the entire infrastructure of the Palestinian territories, destroying every thing that donated and built by international donors. The whole world witnessed as Israeli tanks came rolling into Bethlehem, driving over parked cars and driving over light poles just for the hell of it. The Palestinians lost so much and continued to lose much as a result of the mismanaged Second Intifada.

The biggest loser was Yasser Arafat who went into hiding in his headquarters, abandoned by almost all of his Israeli, American, European even Arab friends, putting his fate and life in the hands of the very few friends he had left. There is a lingering question about whether his close associates slowly poisoned him or he died of natural causes? Perhaps the truth of his death would not serve his memory well. Yasser Arafat proved once again, he is the not a leader who leads, but a leader who manipulates for his own survival.

If the world expects the Palestinian leadership or the elites that are heads of the NGOs to lead the Palestinian Spring, it will have to wait for a long a time. All of these groups have too many vested interests in the continuation of the Jewish Occupation. A Palestinian Spring would bring international funding from donor countries to an immediate end. Too many would lose their VIP passes, chauffeurs, body guards, cooks, and house servants.

Palestinian Oligarchs who made financial killings out of their partnership with the Palestinian Authority and the Jewish Occupation would find themselves the big losers—as much of their investments are in the housing projects and in factories within Jewish Settlements.

The choice for the people could not be clearer. Either they wait for the leadership to take them through another 50 years of negotiations and futile international maneuvering, or they can decide to take the matters into their own hands and force both the Israelis and the Palestinian leadership to end this self serving game, and let them know that their time has simply run out.

Crisis Conditions Grip Eurozone

by Stephen Lendman

From inception, the euro system was doomed to fail. In the 1990s, Progressive Radio News Hour regular Bob Chapman predicted it.

So didn’t British economist/euro expert Bernard Connolly before its January 1999 introduction. His 1995 book titled, “The Rotten Heart of Europe: The Dirty War for Europe’s Money”explained the risks in detail enough to understand.

More recently, he said troubled Eurozone countries can’t cut their way to recovery. Austerity is a hairbrained disastrous policy. So is the “malignant lunacy of monetary union,” combining 17 dissimilar countries under one monetary/fiscal system.

It’s as nonsensical as mixing fire and ice or believing more debt reduces out-of-control levels.

In 1998, Connolly predicted that one or more weak European countries would face rising budget deficits, economic trouble, and a “downward spiral from which there is no escape unaided. When that happens, the country concerned will be faced with a risk of sovereign default.”

It’s now perilously close to happening. Greece already is bankrupt. Only its obituary hasn’t been written. Its moment of truth heads closer, and with it a bang spread round the world.

Euro straightjacket rules destroyed it. Other troubled Eurozone countries face similar problems made worse by austerity and more debt. The system doomed to fail is cratering. From inception it was sure to happen, but fraudulent reengineering made it look workable.

In contrast, mainstream economists are paid to see blue skies and say so even when so often they’re wrong. In addition, they consistently miss key turning points. Their Eurozone analysis is wrongheaded, and so aren’t major media opinions. At least so far.

On December 9, a New York Times editorial headlined, “Europe’s Latest Try,” saying:

How many times have “historic” agreements “fall(en) apart as markets judged they were inadequate or irrelevant to the problem of making good on old debts and generating enough growth to pay off future obligations.”

“We are not optimistic that” the latest one “will now break that cycle.” Europe prefers learning the hard way. Winston Churchill explained US problem solving that way, saying, “The Americans will always do the right thing after exhausting all other options.” In other words, when there’s nothing left to try.

On January 1, New York Times writer Nelson Schwartz headlined, “Austerity Reigns Over Euro Zone as Crisis Deepens,” saying:

“Europe’s leaders braced their nations for a turbulent year, with their beleaguered economies facing a threat on two fronts: widening deficits that force more borrowing but increasing austerity measures that put growth further out of reach.”

In fact, cut and borrow assures greater crisis conditions ahead than now. According to Graduate Institute of Geneva Professor Charles Wyplosz, “We’re going straight into a wall with this kind of policy. It’s sheer madness,” but Eurozone leaders are pursuing it like lemmings blindly near the abyss.

On January 1, London Guardian writer Heather Stewart headlined, “Economics in 2012: no gain, just pain as austerity brings misery to all,” saying:

Last year’s problems will pale compared to “when 2012 shockwaves are felt by millions of people in Europe and beyond.”

“The policy of collective austerity imposed at the behest of the money men (bankers) has driven the eurozone to the brink of a new recession. In 2012, it will be swept over the edge, carrying with it the jobs of millions.”

As a result, public anger will grow. The International Labor Organization warned that people believe “the burden of the crisis is not being shared fairly,” especially among young people.

Nearly half of Spain’s youths are unemployed and over 40% of young people in Greece. Ireland’s little better off at 30%, and things ahead look worse. UN Conference on Trade and Development’s Heiner Flassbeck said, “Those (who) were not part of the party are having hangovers. That’s the problem.”

A lost decade lies ahead. So does greater pain and suffering to assure bankers are paid. As a result, “2012 looks like….a very unhappy new year.” According to one observer, similar politics and economics across Europe are broken, and nothing ahead looks promising.

New Year Predictions

Consumer attorney Max Gardner offered “Extreme Predictions 2012,” including:

(1) Continued home price declines until Q III 2014.

(2) With housing starts at 1959 levels, America’s now a nation of renters because few have the funds to buy.

(3) In 2012, one of America’s major banks will fail. Bank of America is most likely. Perhaps others will follow.

(4) Unemployment will stay high and good jobs relocated to China and developing economies.

(5) The Dow will drop below 8,000 after two or more major Eurozone banks fail, the euro’s devalued, and three Eurozone countries become bankrupt.

(6) “FHFA will implement NACBA Chapter 13 mortgage principal reduction program for all Fannie and Freddie owned residential mortgage loans by June, and the number of new Chapter 13 cases filed in” 2012 Q III and IV “will reach historic levels.”

(7) The Fed will keep throwing good money after bad at Fannie and Freddie. After November’s elections, they’ll enter final liquidation proceedings. QE III will provide more money for Wall Street.

(8) Obama will pursue permanent war. He’ll risk destroying the world to save it for the monied interests that own him.

(9) Iran will be attacked. A “nuclear nightmare” may follow.

(10) Attorneys general will reach meaningless settlements with banker and mortgage servicer crooks. They’ll do nothing to resolve America’s housing crisis or those affected by it.

(11) Obama will win in November. Expect worse economic conditions, permanent war, and crackdowns targeting dissenters.

(12) Gasoline will cost $5 a gallon by 2012 Q II.

Bob Chapman’s view is more dire. Failed policy measures only buy time. Millions across Europe are fed up with corrupt politicians, banking crooks, and bureaucrats wanting world government while the euro system teeters on collapse.

Its debt bomb crushes member countries. One Ponzi scheme follows another. Nothing’s done to stimulate growth. Only paying bankers matters. The policy’s doomed to fail. Short-term relief only is possible. Europe’s experiment is “an abject failure.”

Upheavel’s on the way. Europe and America are affected. So are other regions. A second Obama term or Republican one “could spell violent revolution in the US.” Falling economies will define 2012. Europe, America, China and Japan will be affected. Britain’s “in a death spiral.”

Europe’s next, and America, China and Japan aren’t far behind. “We are about to witness the end of the period that developed” post-WW II. Chaos defines the future. On December 31, tyranny arrived in America after Obama signed legislation to arrest and indefinitely detain anyone, including US citizens based on spurious terrorist charges.

Bankers are running economies into the ground. Millions are suffering hugely. In America, “insolvency will touch every family.” An unprecedented “aggressiveness and warrior mentality” will drive them. If elitists think they’ll get away with more hammering, “they are very sadly mistaken.”

America’s run by corporate and government criminals. Rebellion’s coming. At issue is whether military forces will “kill its own citizens. We hope not, because it’s a battle they can’t win.”

Massive social disruptions are deepening. Social safety net protections are fading. Nations are running out of money. People are running out of patience. History’s no longer made in decades or years. It’s made in months, weeks, days and minutes.

Looking ahead, expect grim conditions to worsen and people unwilling to stay silent. They already rage on streets. Many more will join them for what only their struggles may achieve.

Anger and and sustained turmoil defines what’s coming. Don’t expect it to be pretty.

Two Thirds of U.S. Foreign Aid is Really Military Aid

Call it the Pentagon-zation of U.S. foreign assistance.

by David Wallechinsky and Noel Brinkerhoff/ All Gov

Private Contractor Cash in Iraq

When some Americans complain that foreign aid is wasting taxpayer money abroad that could be put to better use at home, they may not realize that today’s version of foreign aid isn’t what it used to be. Call it the Pentagon-zation of U.S. foreign assistance.

Until a few years ago, the State Department was the leading U.S. government agency when it came to doling out foreign aid. But beginning in the second term of George W. Bush’s presidency, and continuing through the Obama administration, the Department of Defense has surpassed the State Department in supporting foreign initiatives, most of which have been military oriented.

For the past two years, the Pentagon has been given $10 billion more than the State Department for foreign aid projects. With $17 billion, Defense officials plan for the coming year to invest in foreign military and police training, counter-drug assistance, counterterrorism activities and infrastructure projects, among other programs,.

Among the expenditures included in the recently passed 2012 National Defense Authorization Act are $1.1 billion to the government of Pakistan for alleged counterinsurgency efforts and $415 million for two programs known euphemistically as the Combatant Commander Initiative Fund and the Commander Emergency Response Fund. Translated into everyday English, this means cash that can be handed out by U.S. commanders.

Gordon Adams of the Stimson Center told iWatch News that by shifting foreign aid to military programs “you end up strengthening those instruments which are least democratic fundamentally.”

Proposed FCC Media Consolidation Rules

by Stephen Lendman

In October 2007, then FCC chairman Kevin Martin proposed lifting the 1975 media cross-ownership rule. It forbid owning a newspaper and television or radio station in the same city even though conglomerates like Rupert Murdock’s News Corp. and the (Chicago) Tribune Company already did.

On November 13, he expanded his earlier plan, claiming changes would only allow cross ownership “in the largest markets where there exists competition and numerous voices.”

At the time, Free‘s policy director Ben Scott said:

“Chairman Martin’s lofty rhetoric talks about saving American newspapers and ensuring a diversity of voices. But the devil is in the details. His new rules appear to be corporate welfare for the (media giants) in the biggest cities (and) most worrying….the proposed rules appear to contain a giant loophole that could open the back door to runaway media consolidation in nearly every market (in) another massive giveaway to Big Media.”

After the 1996 Telecommunications Act passed, that’s precisely what happened, despite supporters claiming competition would increase, lower prices and service would follow, and according to then vice-president Gore, consumers would get an “early Christmas present.”

In fact, anti-consumer provisions cheated them by letting media and telecom giants consolidate through mergers and acquisitions. Doing so let them raise prices, control content, and compromise how consumers get information and communicate.

Martin wanted cross-ownership limits ended. Consumers, Free, the Consumer Federation of America, and Consumers Union documentation stopped him by showing ownership limits improve local news quantity and quality.

They refuted inconsistent, incompetent and incoherent FCC claims. They also exposed its duplicitous mid-November press release saying its proposal was just a “minor loosening of the (cross-ownership) ban….in (only) the very largest markets and subject to certain criteria and limitations.”

Free Press accurately explained what Martin suppressed, saying:

(1) His “proposal (hides) corporate welfare for Big Media (that will) unleash a buying spree in the top 20 (media) markets.”

(2) “Loopholes (through waivers) open the door to cross-ownership” anywhere.

(3) “Loopholes allow newspapers to own TV stations of any size (and) top-rated stations to (buy) major newspapers.”

(4) “FCC history shows weak standards won’t protect the public (and) the FCC hasn’t denied any temporary waiver request in years.”

(5) “Cross-ownership doesn’t create more local news” as dominant companies crowd out competition.

(6) “Cross-ownership won’t solve newspapers’ financial woes” that are greatly exaggerated.

(7) “The Internet is an opportunity, not a death sentence,” and media consolidation won’t help traditional media’s financial problems.

(8) “Martin’s plan would harm minority media owners” by making them takeover targets.

(9) “A broken and corrupt process creates bad policies.” FCC’s secrecy and rush to change media ownership rules proved it.

(10) “The public doesn’t want more media consolidation.” Near unanimity opposed letting media giants “swallow up more local media.”

The Prometheus Radio Project (advocacy for a “free, diverse, and democratic media”) also expressed concern about Chairman Martin’s plan to weaken rules, allow “unchecked corporate power in media,” and permit too little time for public comments.

PRP, Free Press and other consumer advocates want more consolidation stopped, Net Neutrality preserved; expanded cable access; better use of unlicensed spectrum; more diversity, localism, and low power radio licenses; as well as other pro-consumer measures adopted.

Instead we’re back to square one. On December 22, Free Press headlined, “FCC Ignores Public by Pushing Failed Ownership Policies,” saying:

On December 22, the FCC “proposed rules that would further weaken media ownership limits for local newspapers and broadcast stations. The agency’s proposal is strikingly similar to the one adopted in 2007 under former FCC Chairman Kevin Martin.”

Public and congressional opposition stopped him. Then last summer, a federal appeals court blocked him.

Congress requires FCC review media ownership rules quadrennially. Today’s proposal includes critical issues FCC will address next year, including covert broadcast television station consolidations through shared service arrangements.

According to Free Press President and CEO Craig Aaron:

“The FCC must be having a Yogi Berra moment, because it’s deja vu all over again on the failed policies of the previous administration. Those policies were resoundingly rejected by the public, Congress and courts. The FCC should focus on remedying the mistakes of past administrations – not repeating them.”

“This action not only flies in the face of promises made by the president on the campaign trail but will also make it much harder for local and diverse owners to secure a piece of the public airwaves.”

“Instead, the already dwindling number of smaller and independent media owners will be swallowed up by the same media giants that have crushed local journalism, killed local radio and left us with the same cookie-cutter content from coast to coast.”

Aaron also addressed other FCC failures, including:

  • lack of ownership diversity, especially for minorities and women;

  • covert consolidation through secret deals, combining local newsroom operations in violation of agency rules; and

  • eroding competition overall.

Today’s proposal isn’t final. FCC can still “reverse course, reject the disastrous approach of its predecessors and refocus on policies that will benefit the public instead of just boosting the bottom line of a few giant media conglomerates.”

Candidate Obama promised to “(s)upport the principle of network neutrality to preserve the benefits of open competition on the Internet.”

As president, his FCC and congressional extremists threaten it. Consumer and public advocacy pressure are crucial to stop them before it’s too late.

Threats of Lawsuits and Remembering Nakba

by Eileen Fleming

On the second day of 2012, I received my second threat of a legal action in an email with a letter attachment “regarding a libelous publication” from a law firm in Tel Aviv.

My first threat of a lawsuit came on 5 February 2008, in an email from Walid Shoebat’s manager demanding I apologize and recant what I reported on February 3, 2008: USA Air Force Academy: Failure of Intelligence to Support the Troops . I responded on February 7, 2008: It maybe Ash Wednesday, but I am still laughing over Fat Tuesday morning and followed up onFebruary 26, 2008: The Walid Shoebat Show and “America is Beautiful, but she has an ugly side”

The Tel Aviv threat concerns a 31 December 2009, article “Inside Intel/Bloody business in Africa” written by Yossi Melman originally published by Haaretz and which I had re-posted as the end piece to the 5 January 2010 entry: “What SECURITY Can Never SECURE: The free flow of info”.

The Tel Aviv Attorney claims the article contained “libelous content” and as Haaretz had deleted the article I was to do the same “within 5 days” or his clients “will pursue the legal actions and remedies available to them under any applicable law and jurisdiction, including without limitation the initiation of legal proceedings by local counsel in the competent courts of law in the United States.”

I wondered how could a law firm in Israel even know about my small site, so I Googled “Inside Intel/Bloody business in Africa” by Yossi Melman and learned that on the 2nd page the 2nd entry led to 5 January 2010 atWe Are Wide – Eye Witness Reporting on Israel Palestine

I have now removed the Melman article but not the introduction which follows that was provided by an editor with Jewish Peace News:

The third item highlights a different channel through which the supposedly democratic civic sphere – both inside and beyond Israel – integrates militarized practices, shading into violent coercion for profit and power, and into possible illegality. The item reports on a partnership of security consultants suspected of illegally peddling arms, military training and security systems to the new ex-military ruler of the African state of Guinea.

The partnership, including former Israeli officials such as former foreign minister Shlomo Ben Ami and former Tel Aviv police commander David Tzur, was contracted in part to “teach Guinean decision-makers in a ‘strategic’ workshop, for the stated purpose of increasing awareness of democratic values. Responsibility for the workshops was to have been placed in the hands of former foreign minister Ben-Ami and former deputy defense minister Ephraim Sneh…(See Amnesty International’s most recent press release on the current actions of Guinean decision-makers at: Following a September 2009 slaughter of demonstrators by the new president’s freshly trained soldiers, “The French government and the United Nations approached Israel with a request to examine the involvement of Israeli military advisors in Guinea”. The article reports on some of the surprising details of the still ongoing investigation. -Rela Mazali

What I wrote that proceeded that was a remembrance of Nakba and in defense of and exercise in freedom of the press, published first on 24 November 2008:

[Tel Aviv] Last night I left occupied east Jerusalem for the seventeen-hour return home trip to my sanctuary in Florida. I am home now and I am whipped!

I wore my NAKBA t-shirt and was greeted with a smile by my first inquisitor at Ben Gurion Airport, who inquired, “May I have your passport? Why did you come to Israel?”

I readily replied as I handed it to her along with my business card, “I came to Israel in order to go to occupied Palestine to learn more about Al Nakba and report it all on my website.”

“Al Nakba?”

“Yes, Al Nakba, which is Arabic for The Catastrophe, The Disaster; the other side of the story of what happened when Israel became a state, in 1948. No coincidence, I think that UN Resolution 194 affirms the Right of Return to Palestinian’s who became refugees when Zionists grabbed even more land than ‘civilized’ white men partitioned to them.”

“Oh, I see…Did anyone give you anything, anything at all? I must ask as even a harmless looking item can be made explosive.”

“Nobody in occupied Palestine gave me anything except food, drink and good company. The only things explosive about me are the words that I pound out on my computer, for I am a citizen journalist, not corporate controlled media.”

“I see. Please wait here.”

I did, and she went to converse with three colleagues a few yards from me. Within a minute, they were all looking at me. Ten minutes later, she returned with a smiling man who held my passport and business card and introduced himself as “Security.”

I smiled and replied, “Happy to know you, I am Eileen.”

“What was your reason to visit Israel?”

“Well, you can read all about it on my website, and I hope you will. I have been to Hebron, Erez Crossing and occupied east Jerusalem. I came to learn more and report the truth as I dissent from the way my American tax dollars are spent. Seven to ten million U.S.A. tax dollars every single day, go to support the military occupation of Palestine, and that ticks me off!”

He maintained his smile as he nodded to the woman who applied white stickers on my bags and onto the back of my passport. I was told to proceed to the first x-ray machine for Phase Two of Security:

A bank of x-ray machines in the center of a long rectangular counter.

I was waved over to the long side where four employees stood and not one smiled at me.

I was politely ordered to open up all my bags and with plastic gloves on their hands they emptied out all my neat packing and swabbed every surface and examined every item.

I asked with a smile, “So, what exactly are you swabbing for?”

“Yes, I have heard that one before, but please tell me more. What exactly are you looking for in my cosmetics and dirty laundry?”

“We cannot say.”

“Why not?”

After my laptop was thoroughly swabbed I was politely asked to start it up and open up a program. I did as I was told as I inquired, “Why?”

“Security. I must take your computer away now.”

Oh great I thought as she disappeared from my view for at least five minutes. I am not one to give into paranoia, but I am having my laptop checked out by a geek asap.

After I was allowed to repack all my belongings, I embarked upon Phase Three of Security: The Strip Search.

I was told that I had to be checked for metal and so once again, I was led to the same door I had been led through twice before, marked SECURITY.

I knew the routine and as soon as I got behind the curtain I removed my shoes and belt and sat down until they were run through another x-ray machine.

When my ‘companion’ returned I stood without being told with arms extended from my sides and I was wanded all over and then thoroughly patted down; every inch of my body.

Once again the wand whined with intensity as it passed over the buttons on my jeans.

As before, I was told to sit down and wait while my companion went to fetch an unsmiling woman who entered the cubicle and introduced herself as “Security.”

She ordered me to drop my jeans to my knees.

My abdomen and pelvis were wanded once again.

After passing inspection I was led back to my belongings and my ‘companion’ wrote down my passport number on a log sheet. Then I was led to the Continental desk labeled “Security” to receive my boarding pass and accompanied to Customs as I wondered, why doesn’t SECURITY secure the human rights of human beings?
