The Whole Truth…Nothing But The Truth. So Help Me God!

by Ed Mattson

There comes a time when you just have to shake your head in amazement. Joseph Goebbels, the Minister of Enlightenment and Propaganda for Adolph Hitler, and acknowledged as one of the most brilliant propagandists in history was correct when he said…

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

We see Goebbel’s doctrine repeated today in America by the Obama Administration and the bureaucrats inside the Beltway; repeated over and over by a subservient nationwide media, almost without question. The media has forgotten that its primary duty is public enlightenment which is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues. Conscientious journalists from all media and specialties strive to serve the public with thoroughness and honesty. Furthermore, a journalist must recognize there is a special obligation to ensure that the public’s business is conducted in the open and that government records are open to inspection. Professional integrity is the cornerstone of a journalist’s credibility.

“Journalism is a public trust. Consumers need to trust that every time we share information, we have done everything possible to confirm it.” Bob Kravitz, Indianapolis Star

Those who choose to challenge this assessment only need to study Goebbels even further. Though I am not a fan of Mr. Goebbels, and believe all he and his band of Nazi thugs stood for was abhorrent, we must learn from history less we repeated it…and repeating it we are. Many have wondered how such people ever come to power in the first place. As my previous article stated, there are three key ingredients that come into play wherein the people fall prey to tyranny:
A. The government dumbs-down education and takes total control over curriculum
B. The populace is disarmed often in the name of being for “the public’s own good”
C. Destruction of the family unit making people dependent on government for all their needs

Seldom do political changes occur overnight. They come about incrementally and are often so subtle we fail to even see it happen. Mr. Obama was the “Stealth or even Manchurian Candidate”. So little was known about the man except his ethnicity; and mainstream journalists didn’t bother to do his/her homework, violating the very code of conduct professed by the Society of Professional Journalists. One thing that was in evidence was that his only claim to fame was that of a “community organizer”. In layman’s terms that means stirring up support for whatever “cause de celebre” may be down on the streets and the lowest levels of discontent. Goebbels had pegged this idea as well…

“Whoever can conquer the street will one day conquer the state, for every form of power politics and any dictatorship-run state has its roots in the street.” Joseph Goebbels

Now as to how this reflects back to Obama and his administration…

Let’s start with the constant onslaught on the Second Amendment. Nobody can deny that the liberal/progressive establishment has been pecking away, state by state, at the public’s Constitutional rights to keep and bear arms. The restrictions on gun ownership have never been higher all in the name of “pubic safety”, yet even in those communities with the most restrictive laws, criminals always seem to have an arsenal much larger than the police, and the rates of gun crimes have not come down.

The Education Department, is a Cabinet-level department of the United States government. It was created by theDepartment of Education Organization Act and signed into law by President Jimmy Carter . It began functioning on May 16, 1980. Since it’s inception, the US has rapidly risen to the top of the heap in comparison of all other nations accept Switzerland, in annual spending per student, yet our students test at the very bottom of advanced science and math levels. It would be far worse if smaller countries with high literacy rates like Costa Rica were to have been included. NOTE: In my next article I will present you a test given to 8th grade students in 1895. If you don’t see how far our education system has fallen since then, then you are either blind or just can’t admit Failure. I am sure most US teachers could not score a passing grade on this test.

The family unit was what enabled most Americans to survive the Great Depression. Following the programs of Franklin Roosevelt and compounded by the Great Society Programs of President Lyndon Johnson, the importance of the family unit has been minimized to the point that more than 50% of the children born in America are to unwed, single parent families, destined to, in most cases a life of poverty and government dependency, paid for by working Americans.

When Obama spews forth his rhetoric about class warfare and the “rich paying their fair share”, at what point do we the wage earners begin demanding those bringing children into this world “pay their fare share of the burden they are placing on society”. That may be politically incorrect to the intellectually stupid elite, but it is high time someone show Mr. Obama the errors of his words. That should be the job of the media, which by their own code, has pledged to tell the truth.

If history is to be believed, we are on course to a reality that most Americans never believed would happen…a tyrannical change and a lost of our Constitutional rights of freedom and liberty. To those who still cannot draw a correlation between the America left to us by our parents and the ship of fools being created right before our very eyes, show me please, the Constitutionality of Obama’s Czars’ which have almost replaced the authority granted to Cabinet Positions…and show me the Constitutionality of Executive Orders dismissing the President of General Motors.

Our Supreme Court, which is tasked to determine the constitutionality of the laws enacted by Congress and the President, has come to make such constitutional decisions based, not on the US Constitution, but according toSandra Day O’Conner, on the increased willingness of U.S. courts to take international law into account in its decisions, particularly on laws dealing with matters of politically correct issues and the death sentence. This is pure and simple, “legislating from the bench”, and outside the constitutionality regarding the separation of powers.

Let’s say I am on the right track; that my homework has proven fruitful, and that the US is headed in the wrong direction with the possibility of running off a cliff with a complete economic meltdown in the very near future. How can that be true with the “economy getting better”? I mean that is what we read in the newspapers, see on TV , and hear on the mainstream radio news programs, right?

As I have said throughout the past, I am not an ardent supporter of conspiracies, but how many journalists have taken the Obama Administration to task over the Goebbel-Like stories of how the economy is improving, and is it really improving? Let’s take the unemployment figures apart and let’s see if the 8.3% unemployment figure is accurate.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is quoted in their most recent report.

“Total non-farm payroll employment rose by 243,000 in January, and the unemployment rate decreased to 8.3 percent. Job growth was widespread in the private sector, with large employment gains in professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, and manufacturing. Government employment changed little over the month”.

That news is what we heard from every media outlet, and indeed it sounded very positive; almost uplifting. But when we look at the details as we would have in 1964 when full-disclosure meant “fully revealing all the data”, it still looks like the economy is anything but bright.

“The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 361,928 in the week ending February 11”. This was actually a decrease of 39,328 from the previous week, but it showed and increase of 118,928 new unemployment filings versus 243,000 new jobs, yet they report “a drop in unemployment rate to 8.3%”…which only the government’s fuzzy math can figure. (There were 424,400 initial claims in the comparable week in 2011, so in all fairness that number looked a little better, but then again maybe we are just running out of workers to be let go).

The media is not doing their job. They need to dig deeper to give the American public the real numbers. The way our government works its math is why every projected project comes in way off the mark; every bill actually costs far more than anticipated; and if we were talking about the private sector working the numbers the way the government does, a lot of accountants would go to jail!

As to the employment figures here is what is important:
• We have a total non-farm workforce of 157,695,000 not counting those incarcerated or in the military.
• We have 132,166,000 actually working real jobs
• That translates into a REAL UNEMPLOYED 25,529,000, WHICH IS 16.2%.

If we could really get the unemployment rate down to 8.3% through oil exploration, energy production, moving manufacturing jobs back to the US, and re-activate the housing market , every dollar earned and spent by these newly engaged workers would result in a multiplier effect amounting to 3 to 7 times what is spent, which could generate up to $3.5 trillion in spending here at home. It would solve our energy problems and mark our march back to national financial sanity.

Until then I’ll leave you with Abbott and Costello’s version of explaining unemployment the “government way” (courtesy of an old friend, Lawrence Booker):

COSTELLO: I want to talk about the unemployment rate in America.
ABBOTT: Good Subject. Terrible Times… It’s 8.3%.
COSTELLO: That many people are out of work?
ABBOTT: No, that’s 16% are out of work.
COSTELLO: You just said 8.3%.
ABBOTT: That’s 8.3% Unemployed?
COSTELLO: Right 8.3% out of work.
ABBOTT: No, that’s 16% not working..
COSTELLO: Okay, so it’s 16% unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, it’s 8.3%…
COSTELLO: WAIT A MINUTE. Is it 8.3% or 16%?
ABBOTT: 8.3% are unemployed. 16% are out of work.
COSTELLO: IF you are out of work you are unemployed, right?
ABBOTT: No, you can’t count the “Out of Work” as the unemployed.
You have to look for work to be unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, you miss my point.
COSTELLO: What point?
ABBOTT: Someone who doesn’t look for work, can’t be counted with those
who are unemployed. It wouldn’t be fair.
ABBOTT: The unemployed.
COSTELLO: But they are ALL out of work.
ABBOTT: No, the unemployed are actively looking for work. Those who are out of work stopped looking. They gave up and if you gave up you are not unemployed
COSTELLO: So if you’re off the unemployment rolls, that would mean less unemployment?
ABBOTT: Unemployment would go down. Absolutely!
COSTELLO: The unemployment just goes down because you don’t look for work?
ABBOTT: Absolutely it goes down. That’s how it got to 8.3%. Otherwise it would be 16%.
Do you think the government  wants you to read about 16% unemployment?
COSTELLO: That would be frightening.
ABBOTT: Absolutely.
COSTELLO: Wait, I got a question for you…
That means there are two ways to bring down the unemployment number?
ABBOTT: Two ways is correct.
COSTELLO: Unemployment can go down if someone gets a job?
ABBOTT: Correct.
COSTELLO: And unemployment can also go down if you stop looking for a job?
ABBOTT: Bingo.
COSTELLO: So there are two ways to bring unemployment down,
and the easier of the two is to just stop looking for work.
ABBOTT: Now you’re thinking like an economist.
COSTELLO: I don’t even know what the hell I just said!

And now you know why Obama’s unemployment figures are improving and everything is getting better.

Brutal Bahraini State Terror

by Stephen Lendman

For over a year, Saudi and Al-Khalifa monarchy security forces terrorized nonviolent protesters. Thousands braved tear gas, beatings, rubber bullets, live fire, arrests, torture and disappearances.

Washington’s very much involved. Bahrain’s the home of America’s Fifth Fleet. Millions of dollars in aid’s provided. So are weapons, including armored vehicles, bunker buster missiles, wire-guided ones, and more. A Pentagon statement said:

They’ll “improve Bahrain’s capability to meet current and future armored threats. Bahrain will use the enhanced capability as a deterrent to regional threats and to strengthen its homeland defense.”

In fact, Bahrain faces no external threats. Except for Western/Israeli-targeted Syria, Iran, and Lebanon, neither do other Middle East states. Yet Washington’s selling fighters, missiles, and other advanced weapons to regional allies.

In late December, a Saudi F-15 fighter deal was announced worth nearly $30 billion. Other plans include Iraq weapons sales worth around $11 billion. Israelis, of course, get billions of dollars in aid annually, including America’s most advanced weapons and technology. At the same time, Washington’s belligerently expanding its Middle East footprint.

Thousands of Iraqi troops remain. Others were repositioned. Kuwait contingents increased. Libyan bases are planned, and close ties continue with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and other regional states for future air, ground, and naval combat missions.

Notably, Bahraini activists published photos showing US troops training state security forces in crackdown tactics. In addition, former New York/Philadelphia/Miami Police chief John Timoney’s involved.

Occupy Miami organizer Mohammed Malik told Press TV he’s currently training Bahraini forces. His record includes repressive crackdowns against Miami global justice protesters, Philadelphia ones at the 2000 Republican National Convention, and other brutality in New York. For years, he terrorized city residents where he worked.

On February 16, London Guardian writer Ryan Devereaux headlined, “John Timoney: the notorious police chief sent to ‘reform’ forces in Bahrain,” saying:

For three decades, he was New York City police chief before heading up Philadelphia and Miami departments. He was hired along with former UK assistant top cop John Yates.

Timoney critics cite years of “police abuse, illegal infiltration tactics, fear-mongering, and a blatant disregard for freedom of expression.”

His methods include “pepper spray, rubber bullets, bean bag rounds, Tasers, electrified shields, batons,” beatings, and mass arrests. Florida ACLU executive director Howard Simon called his Bahrain presence “extremely unsettling. I’m concerned for the people of Bahrain with Timoney directing how police there are controlling crowds.”

On February 15, the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) said brutal crackdowns continue. Saudi and Bahraini security forces attack nonviolent protesters daily. Stun grenades, shotguns, water cannons, and tear gas are used. When fired in closed places, it’s asphyxiating.

On February 7, six US citizens were arrested. Held in police custody for days, they were deported in handcuffs for the duration of their Bahrain/London flight.

On February 17, Press TV reported “a fierce overnight crackdown on anti-regime protesters across several regions of the country.” Manama, Daih, Ma’ameer, Sitra, Sehla and other areas were attacked.

Earlier in the day, police used water cannons against thousands protesting a teenage boy’s death. In Jidd Hafs, he died of severe burns inflicted while demonstrating peacefully.

Women were also assaulted. Homes were raided. Since February 2011 protests erupted, mass arrests, deaths, torture, imprisonments, and other abuses followed.

On February 17, Amnesty International (AI) issued an “urgent action” for “scores” of activists arrested on February 14, saying:

Police attacked, beat and arrested them. Their faces and legs showed signs of abuse. In custody, families have no contact with loved ones. Authorities freely torture and inflict other forms of abuse.

On February 17, Human Rights First said Mahdi Abu Deeb and Jaleela Al Saman (Bahrain Teachers Association president and vice president) will appeal their lawless military court convictions for protesting peacefully.

In custody, they were “tortured and ultimately convicted of unfounded charges and sentenced to prison by the discredited Bahrain military court.” Hundreds of others faced the same abuse.

“Bahrain’s crackdown and these baseless prosecutions continue as the United States considers a new military transfer to Bahrain.” Obama’s moving swiftly to approve it instead of condemning state terror.

Bahrain’s a valued ally. While hypocritically vilifying Assad for confronting Western-backed insurgents, Washington facilitates Al-Khalifi brutality.

A Final Comment

In summer 2010, sporadic protests began. Since mid-February 2011, major ones erupted. Thousands of Bahrainis challenged repressive Al-Khalifa rule nonviolently. Anti-government demonstrations continue daily.

In mid-March, Saudi forces invaded guns blazing. With Bahraini police, they’ve terrorize protesters repressively, including women, children, doctors, journalists, human rights activists, and foreign observers.

On February 13, 2012, Bahrain chief of public security General Tariq Al-Hassan said police presence would continue to confront “unlawful or violent acts of sabotage” even though none whatever are committed.

Despite extreme security force brutality, Bahrainis remain scrupulously nonviolent. Nonetheless, they’re brutally attacked. Minority Sunnis violate majority Shia rights. Bahrainis demand change. The monarchy yields nothing. Washington extends support.

King Hamad blames Iran for fomenting protests. So do Saudis for growing unrest in the kingdom. Heightened tensions suggest likely belligerent intervention ahead. At issue is replacing Tehran’s government with a repressive pro-Western one like in Bahrain, Libya, Saudi Arabia, and other Arab League states.

Throughout the region, Washington backs state terror to achieve it. It’s official policy for unchallenged regional dominance, no matter the body count, vast destruction and human misery.

Tokyo Radiation Level 25 Times the Fukushima Mandatory Evacuation Zone

… by  Bob Nichols

(San Francisco) Widely known Physicist Dr Paolo Scampa, the publisher of the EU AIPRI Blog and an eminent chemical physicist, announced today his latest calculations of deadly radioactivity in Tokyo itself.  Both the nuclear regulatory and media responses have been missing in action.

However, the outrageous statement of a Japanese politician pretty well sums up the level of understanding of the parasitic political class “Smile, and the radiation won’t hurt you.”

The Tokyo suburbs are about 100 miles or 160 km South of the six destroyed, deteriorating and badly leaking nuclear reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi Station for Nuclear Reactors.

Dr Scampa stated:

“An absorbed dose of 2,94 microSievert/hour at 1 meter of soil means an average deposit of 9,065E5 Bq/m2 of Cs137 -0,661 MeV-. This amount for 1 meter is in fact situated between a maximum deposit of  5,439E6 Bq/m2 for low energy gamma rays from radioactive elements such as U238 (0,0495 MeV) and a minimum deposit of  2,176E5 Bq/m2 of very energetic gamma rays from radioactive elements such as Co60 (2,55 MeV). This dose corresponds to 25 times the maximum permissible “artificial” hour dose (0,114 microSievert/h-1) and 5 times the maximum permissible total – natural and artificial – hour dose (0,571 microSievert/h-1). [1]” Dr. Scampa. [End Quote]

This is a tragedy of huge proportions. There are 30 Plus Million People in Greater Tokyo. It is brought home personally to each person who sees the work of Fukushima Diary by Mochizuki.

There are thousands of US troops stationed with their families in Japan. American politicians must remove all US Troops and dependents from Japan immediately. This must happen forthwith. We will remember.

Mochizuki is sticking by his reporting post at Fukushima Diary on the InterNet as long as he is capable. Everyone at Veterans Today and around the world honors your work, Morchizuki, clear sailing to you on this, your last mission. Keep transmitting as long as you are able.

Afghanistan and the Koran Burnings

Press TV US Desk

Gordon Duff, a senior editor of Veterans Today, says, “There are still troops in the American military who share the Islamophobic teachings of the Bush era.”

He made the remarks in an interview with Press TV’s U.S. Desk Thursday when asked about Qur’an burning in a U.S military base in Afghanistan and the follow-up protests not only in Afghanistan but also in many other countries.

More than 500 people took to streets in southwestern Pakistan on Thursday to condemn the incident.

He added that “in reality American intelligence and military intelligence officers all know he (Osama bin Laden) died in 2001.”

Why Occupy AIPAC?

BY: Roane Carey

Every year, in an impressive display of raw lobby power, the AIPAC Policy Conference descends on Washington. And every year, a huge number of senators and congressmen from both parties, as well as the American president, compete to see who can be the most obsequious toward what AIPAC falsely calls “the pro-Israel movement.”

Never have the stakes been higher. It’s well known that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to go to war with Iran. He would like the United States to do the job or join Israel in an attack, or, at the very least, not stand in Israel’s way. On the eve of this year’s conference, Netanyahu gave new meaning to the word chutzpah by letting it be known he’ll demand Obama’s guarantee that Washington will go to war if Iran’s nuclear program advances beyond specific “red lines”; see these reports byHaaretz’sBarak Ravid and theGuardian’sChris McGreal.

Bibi is playing a high-stakes intimidation game: he knows he can count on Congress to follow the AIPAC line, as it has for many years. Legislators from both parties are already demanding White House cooperation with Israeli war aims. And he may be betting that he can make Obama pay a price this November if the president doesn’t cooperate. The fact that former Mossad director Meir Dagan and other Israeli security experts, as well as US military officials like Joint Chiefs of Staff chair Martin Dempsey, are worried about the catastrophic consequences of such a war seems not to have swayed Bibi in the least.

Why is Netanyahu so certain he can sway an American president? Partly because of the power of AIPAC (in league with a broad circle of AIPAC affiliates, including the Christian Zionist lobby), which has for decades worked assiduously to keep Congress closely aligned with the most belligerent Israeli policies, chief among them the illegal colonization of the occupied Palestinian territories, now in its forty-fifth year. Legislators who get out of line are targeted in their re-election campaigns, and the lobby and its close allies use McCarthyite tactics to intimidate the press and policy circles. Infamous recent examples include smears against the Center for American Progress and Media Matters by former AIPAC-er Josh Block, which was amplified in the broader media, and by an outfit called the Emergency Committee for Israel, which ran a grotesque full-page ad attacking CAP and Media Matters in today’s New York Times.

It’s time for this to stop. In fact, it’s time to Occupy AIPAC. This weekend, CODEPINK Women for Peace, along with the Institute for Policy Studies, Just Foreign Policy, the US Palestinian Community Network, Interfaith Peace-Builders and Jewish Voice for Peace, is organizing a summit in Washington at the same time as the AIPAC Policy Conference. Endorsed by more than 100 organizations around the country, the summit is going to shine a spotlight on AIPAC’s abusive practices and discuss a more rational Middle East policy, for both Israel and the United States.

Opposition to AIPAC within the Jewish community has been growing for years; the emergence of the liberal counter-lobby J Street, along with courageous media voices like my comrades atMondoweiss, is a testament to that. And never has the grassroots American movement against the occupation been so strong, as witnessed by the growth of the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and the BDS movement, as well as Students for Justice in Palestine on college campuses. And yet the stranglehold of AIPAC and its clones on US government policy seems as toxic as ever. If that stranglehold isn’t broken soon, we may become embroiled in yet another war.

Ex-Minister Benizri claims IsraHell ‘most anti-Semitic state’

After release from prison, former Cabinet member says ‘incitement campaign’ against haredi public reminiscent of anti-Jewish propaganda during Holocaust

ed note–it is slightly amusing to watch as these people eat each other…

As we can see from this former MK’s comments, ‘anti-Semitism’ is a charge that is thrown around wildly without any thought whatsoever into what it really means. In this case, we have it coming from one set of Jews against another.

The relevance of this is 2-fols–

1) Jews use it as a first-strike weapon against anyone who runs counter to whatever it is they are doing, and

2) It is used to preclude any soul searching on the part of the accused, a sure-fire recipe for an individual (or group of them) to remain mired in their backwards behavior ad infinitum.

Former Shas Minister Shlomo Benizri, who was released from the Maasiyahu Prison Thursday morning, said Israel was the most anti-Semitic country in the world due to what he referred to as its “incitement campaign against the haredi community.”

According to Benizri, ultra-Orthodox are being attacked on a daily basis in the media with “expressions that were used against Jews in the Holocaust.”

Benizri served two and a half years of a four-year sentence for conspiracy to commit a crime, accepting bribes, breach of trust, and obstruction of justice.

The Israel Prison Service released Benizri as part of a broader release of 600 prisoners it said is meant to ease prison overcrowding and improve living conditions for inmates.

In an interview with haredi radio station Kol Barama, Benizri said the mental anguish he had suffered for being “wrongfully imprisoned” was greater than that of former Hamas captive Gilad Shalit.

“I understood his pain and frustration – only mine were greater,” the former minister said. “His pain is related to terrorists, but my pain is great as well.”

During the interview, Benizri also criticized what he called an anti-haredi campaign in the media: “Almost every other item is about haredim, calling them ‘parasites.’ This term was used against Jews in the Holocaust. They say ‘all the money goes to the haredim.’”

Racist Zionist Palin Calls Afghans ‘Savages’

Think Progress

In an interview with Greta Van Susteren scheduled to air tonight, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) criticized President Obama for apologizing to “savages in Afghanistan.” All three leading Republican presidential have attacked the president for apologizing for the accidental Quran burning on an an American base, and in the interview, Politico reports Palin picked up that theme and went a bit farther:

“We’re a very pro-military state up here. We recognize what it is that our men and women sacrifice for all of us to keep us secure. And at this point, we’re watching Obama with his naïve apologies to savages in Afghanistan who turn around and kill our soldiers,” she said, in an apparent reference to the president’s recent apology to Afghan President Hamid Karzai for the unintentional burnings of Qurans at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan.

U.K.’s Cameron: Day of reckoning is coming for Assad regime

Earlier on Friday, wounded French journalist Edith Bouvier arrived in Beirut, and clashes erupted Syrian government troops, rebels in Daraa province; Red Cross reports aid convoy reached Homs.

ed note–of the many character flaws Jesus detested in people, the worst was hypocrisy. ‘Let your ye be ye and your nay be nay, for everything else is from the Devil’ He said.

Cameron–like Obama, Benedict XVI, Sarkozy and just about every other G-damned western leader–is the dictionary picture of the same hypocrisy that Jesus hated. WHERE, MR. CAMERON, IS THIS ‘DAY OF RECKONING’ FOR THE ISRAELI REGIME, THAT HAS MURDERERED AND BRUTALIZED PALESTINIANS EVERY DAY FOR THE LAST 100 YEARS?????

The only thing that makes living in these dark days bearable is knowing that one day everyone is going to get what is coming to them. The  oppressed will be rewarded with justice and their oppressors will one day burn in hell for their crimes.

The British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Friday the Syrian government must be held accountable for what he called crimes against its citizens during the year-long revolt against President Bashar Assad.

“We need to start collecting the evidence now so that one day, no matter how long it takes, there will be a day of reckoning for this dreadful regime,” Cameron told reporters as he arrived for the second day of a summit of EU leaders in Brussels.

“What I think matters is building the evidence and the picture so we hold this criminal regime to account and to make sure that it is held to account for its crimes that it is committing against its people.”

Early on Friday, wounded French journalist Edith Bouvier arrived in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, after she was smuggled out of Homs.

Bouvier had been admitted into the French Hospital in Beirut, sources at the French embassy told dpa.

“She is resting. Doctors will decide if she will be able to travel later on Friday. A private French plane is waiting at Beirut airport to take her home,” the sources added.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Bouvier and journalist William Daniels of France had been successfully smuggled into Lebanon.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted Friday between Syrian government troops and rebels in the province of Daraa near the border with Jordan, opposition activists said.

“Two soldiers from the regime troops have been killed in the clashes that are going on in Daraa,” Haithem al-Omari, a Syrian activist based in the area, told dpa.

Daraa was the birthplace of pro-democracy protests that started against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad in March 2011.

Elsewhere, Syrian government troops beefed up their presence inside the restive neighbourhood of Baba Amr in the province of Homs, which they seized Thursday after rebels made what they called a tactical retreat from the area, according to activists.

Syrian state television showed footage from Baba Amr on Friday and said the area had been “cleansed from terrorists.”

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) told Reuters later on Friday that a Red Cross convoy carrying life-saving aid reached the Syrian city of Homs and was about to enter the shattered district of Baba Amro.

“We are in Homs preparing to enter Baba Amro,” ICRC chief spokeswoman Carla Haddad told Reuters in Geneva.

Earlier, the ICRC said that its convoy of 7 trucks loaded with food and other relief supplies was heading from the capital Damascus to Homs where volunteers and ambulances of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent were waiting to enter the district together.

The aim was to start delivering vital aid and evacuating the sick or wounded needing medical attention.

Poppy Growers Prefer U.S. Occupation

By Victor Thorn

Although U.S. military troops have occupied Afghanistan for more than a decade, addictive drugs flow in ever-increasing quantities from that war-torn nation, ending up on the streets of major cities across the globe.

On Feb. 17, Iranian news agency Press TV reported: “Opium production by Afghan farmers rose between 2001 and 2011 from just 185 tons to a staggering 5,800 tons. Last year, levels increased by 61 percent, with more than 90 percent of heroin found on British streets being traced back to opiates cultivated in Afghanistan.”

Press TV also pointed out, “Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said in 2001 that a significant reason for deployment of foreign forces to Afghanistan was to curtail a flourishing heroin trade.”

Author Gregg Kalina told AFP an intriguing story: “Last week I spoke with an Afghan man in Los Angeles. He said that even though the U.S. has been in his country for more than a decade to supposedly promote democracy, his cousin still lives there as a poppy farmer. The Afghani’s relative said that in 2000, $5 billion a year was generated from growing poppies. This year, that total will exceed $1 trillion.”

Kalina then dropped a bombshell: “This man’s cousin told him that the U.S. is giving poppy growers super seeds,” he said. “Anyone who looks at graphs of opium production can see how there are still record-breaking yields in Afghanistan. That doesn’t even include all the gold, copper and silver that we’re mining from that country.”

Stand Up Barack

If the Obama administration genuinely wanted to prevent a military strike against Iranian nuclear facilities that could potentially lead to WWIII, it would implement three measures:

First, all economic sanctions levied against Iran under Obama’s 2012 National Defense Authorization Act would be withdrawn. As Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) correctly said on Dec. 21, 2009: “Sanctions are not diplomacy. They are a precursor to war.”

Second, U.S. officials would, without delay, schedule face-to-face meetings with their Iranian counterparts. After all, during the Cold War when the Soviet Union possessed thousands of nuclear warheads, previous administrations still sat down at the table with them. Iran doesn’t have a single nuke. Why will not Obama speak with them?

Or, as Paul remarked during an Aug. 11, 2011 GOP debate: “At least our leaders and Reagan talked to the Soviets. What is so terribly bad about that? Countries you put sanctions on, you are more likely to fight them.” Truer words could not be spoken.

Third, on Feb. 20 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s former chief of staff, Naftali Bennett, stated that an Israeli military strike is “imminent.” If Obama wanted to avoid a catastrophic unilateral attack by Israel, he could send a clear and definitive message by signing an executive order that would immediately cut off all financial aid to Israel. Without such funding, not only would Netanyahu’s murderous military receive no further blood money, but every other nation around the globe could see the White House’s intent: The United States will no longer be Israel’s patsy.

Didn’t American voters elect Barack Obama so that the policies of the Bush-Cheney regime would no longer be implemented?

Not once has Obama publicly denounced Israel’s “imminent” plans to wage a preemptive strike. Rather, the only element Obama and Netanyahu officials seem to be haggling over is the timeframe. Even this point is crucial because last year, the U.S.-NATO led invasion against Muammar Qadaffi’s Libya occurred on March 19—the Jewish festival of Purim. President George W. Bush’s “shock and awe” attack on Iraq in 2003 also began on Purim.

Although some maintain hope Obama will keep the U.S. out of yet another military entanglement, his track record suggests otherwise. During a Feb. 22 interview, Gregg Kalina, author of a soon-to-bereleased book on NASA’s Apollo Program, told this writer: “Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize on Oct. 9, 2009, but nothing he’s done since becoming president has shown he deserved such an award. He renewed the [USA] Patriot Act, kept [the prison at] Gitmo open, authorized U.S. involvement in the Libyan invasion and initially escalated troops in Afghanistan. He renewed Bush’s warrantless wiretapping policy. And no other president has used drone attacks more frequently than him. The number of innocent Afghan people killed by these drones is appalling. On top of that, after one of our military’s drones was downed in Iran, Obama had the audacity to demand its return.”

Kalina continued: “It’s peculiar that the U.S. is currently sending decommissioned naval ships into the Persian Gulf. It’s the same technique that started past wars. . . . It sounds like we’re sending those ships through the Strait of Hormuz to spark a conflict.”

If false-flag attacks such as those on the USS Liberty and 9-11 are any indicator, Kalina feels, this country is the victim of manipulation. “Through AIPAC and the central bankers, we’re doing whatever Israel tells us to do,” he said. “U.S. military might is being used as a big stick to wipe out countries in the Middle East that Israel wants wiped out. It’s their domino theory: Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, Pakistan, Libya, with Iran and Syria next.”

Neoconservatives and other like-minded Israeli lackeys argue, “What about Iranian Prime Minister Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s threat to wipe Israel off the map?”

This statement is especially pertinent because, as has been reported in this newspaper, Ahmadinejad’s words were deliberately misrepresented. What Ahmadinejad actually said, properly translated, was, “This regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time.”

In this light, why doesn’t Obama hold a press conference and correct the record once and for all? As soon as this inflammatory rhetoric has been defanged, Israel’s role as a “hapless victim”—not to mention any allusions to the “holocaust”—will be erased.

Likewise, why doesn’t Obama or White House spokesman Jay Carney issue a press release asking one simple question: How many nations has Iran invaded in the past 60 years, and how many preemptive attacks has Israel engaged in? Regrettably, Obama and his Cabinet remain silent on these points, thereby allowing the Israeli propaganda machine to keep brainwashing unwitting citizens.

For his part, Kalina feels the American public is being conned with smoke and mirrors.

“Supposedly, Obama is fighting with Netanyahu, but I think it’s all a show, a fake, a 100 percent snowjob,” he said. “Obama puffs his chest out, but then in the backroom he and Netanyahu laugh about it. Then Obama acquiesces. That’s the way this game is played. Everybody knows Israel is running the whole thing.”

Taking one step further, Kalina added: “Look at the cronies who brought Obama up. He was burped and raised by all the Jews in Chicago. They’re the ones who put him in power. This guy had no credentials.Who was backing him?”

Indeed, other than a no-show stint in politics and a brief tenure in academia, Obama has never held a real job in his entire life. He’s never run a business, he’s never been in the military, he’s never had executive experience, and he’s never met a payroll.

Kalina interjected: “How can we explain Obama’s meteoric rise against Hillary Clinton in 2008 when the odds against him winning were 200-1? Does anyone really think a black man with absolutely no experience is going to change a banking system and war machine that has been intact for decades? It’s absurd. Plus, if Obama ever did try to defy the powers that be, they’d simply pull out the 1963 Zapruder film.”

Pursuing this line of reasoning even further, Kalina noted, “Gen. Smedley Butler warned the world about Wall Street bankers that profit from war.” But still, four of Obama’s top 10 donors in 2008were JPMorganChase, Citigroup, GE, with the No. 1 contributor being Goldman Sachs.

On Feb. 23, Al Jazeera reported: “Obama won the presidency thanks in no small part to the investment firm Goldman  Sachs—his biggest backer of the 2008 campaign. Despite tough talk about reining in the excesses of bankers, Obama’s government is peppered with former finance industry executives or figures close to Wall Street.”

Regardless of his charade of antagonism against these high-level financiers—the 1 percenters—Obama persists in collecting huge sums of money from the country’s top bankers. Nothing in life is free, and if Obama keeps pocketing Wall Street money, it’s naïve to believe he won’t also be forced to do its bidding.
