NYPD helped Mort Zuckerman–8 years later, his paper shills for NYPD spying

Mortimer Zuckerman, the media mogul who owns theNew York Daily News, is so well-connected that he once had New York Police Department (NYPD) intelligence agents conduct “counter-surveillance” of people who were following him (see Phil Weiss’ post for more).

Considering the Daily News’ non-stop praise for whatever the NYPD does, it’s worth asking this question: does the Daily News’ love for the NYPD have something to do with the preferential treatment showered on Zuckerman?

Leonard Levitt, the independent journalist who broke the story, writes:

Ever wonder why the Daily News runs all those editorials deifying the NYPD, even as the department arrested the paper’s own reporters during the Occupy Wall Street protests?

Or why these editorials praise the NYPD’s fight against terrorism in such slavish terms that not even the News’s own readers believe them? [See NYPD Confidential, Dec. 19, 2011.]

The answer may lie in documents (pdf here) provided to NYPD Confidential that show the lengths the NYPD has gone to cultivate and indulge powerful media figures such as the Daily News’s owner and Fox News’s president.

But even without the NYPD’s personal favors to Zuckerman (which is itself outrageous), the Daily Newswould probably still sing the praises of the NYPD’s constitutionally suspect practice of spying on Muslims. The praise for the spying aimed at Muslims (and left-wing activists) dovetail with Zuckerman’s neoconservative views on the Middle East and national security.

In light of Levitt’s report showing that the NYPD conducted “counter-surveillance” for Zuckerman, it’s a good time to examine the Daily News’ “slavish” (in Levitt’s words) praise for the NYPD’s spying on Muslims–and where they’re wrong.

Zuckerman’s paper has lauded Public Advocate Bill de Blasio for pronouncing the “NYPD not guilty of spying on Muslims”; described the intelligence division’s efforts assimply “checking out facts that are in the public record”; and mocked the Associated Press investigation into the NYPD tactics as “hilarious” instead of disturbing.

The distortions of what the NYPD spy program is go on and on.

In those editorials, the Daily News repeatedly characterizes the NYPD’s surveillance targeting day to day aspects of Muslim life in the city as innocuous. And the paper lambastes anyone who characterizes such efforts as “spying.”

NYPD intelligence agents simply, in the News’ world, collect public information to keep tabs on potential terrorists. But we know that’s not the full story.

It’s absurd to see the paper mock those who call the NYPD intelligence unit activities what they are: spying. What else do you call it when intelligence agents infiltrate mosques and record the content of sermons to be kept in a secret dossier?

Some of the information the NYPD collected was indeed public, as the Daily News notes, but the retaining of that information is legally suspect under the guidelines the NYPD operate under.

Additionally, as Glenn Greenwald noted, “much of the information was not at all ‘public’ but was compiled through infiltration and spying.” An undercover agent joining a Muslim student group’s trip to go rafting, and recording their activities in a secret dossier to be kept on file, is not simply collecting public information. Similarly, NYPD officers “eavesdropping” on conversations in mosques cannot be categorized as collecting public information. It’s about destroying “the private lives of Muslim citizens,” as Brooklyn College professor Moustafa Bayoumi told the AP.

Zuckerman’s chummy relationship with the NYPD should cast doubt on the accuracy of Daily News editorializing about spying on Muslims. At the very least, people should know that Zuckerman has a personal interest in pleasing the NYPD.

Amira Hass explains why Israel’s U.S. model of ethnic cleansing failed, and why ‘Jewish regime’ will ‘crumble’

Apr 11, 2012

Philip Weiss

It is very common these days to hear supporters of Israel seek to justify ethnic cleansing by saying that You did it– you Americans. Amira Hass has a fabulous piece up at Haaretz that takes on this model head on. She exposes the Israeli desire to defeat the Palestinian people, as the U.S. defeated the Native Americans, and then only have to deal with the “remnant” (a reference to Eastern European Jewry after the Holocaust). And she explains why this is not possible, and why we are now in the endgame of “the Jewish regime” because Israel did not want a two-state solution.

Read this amazing true line: “The question was, and is, how much more bloodshed, suffering and disasters will be needed until the Jewish regime of discrimination and separation, which we have created here over the past 64 years, crumbles.” This is a frankly anti-Zionist piece, written by a child of Holocaust survivors. Amira Hass is thirsting for the DeKlerk to lead her society out of its racist dead-end. I cannot imagine it being published in the New York Times. A sad reflection on our discourse.

But happily, and to our relief, the Palestinians are one people (unlike the hundreds that were in America ) and the process of Jewish settlement did not wipe them out. We are in a different age and a different region. Thinking big makes us forget that, unlike the model we admire and seek to emulate, we are a minority in the region. And the region is evolving and demanding a change in the rules of the game that have been so convenient for the United States and Israel.

The real question is not whether the solution is “two states” or “one state.” History in any case does not recognize end points – every stage leads to another. Visions are also not lacking. The visions must develop and change during the struggle for equality and justice, otherwise they will become gulags. The question was, and is, how much more bloodshed, suffering and disasters will be needed until the Jewish regime of discrimination and separation, which we have created here over the past 64 years, crumbles.

The Palestinians provided us, the Israelis, a ladder that would have saved us the kind of suffering and loss that we have caused them. A ladder that we could have climbed to a historic rung where we could have been accepted in the region as neighbors who also have roots in this place and rights – not only as aggressive invaders. But successive Israeli governments, with the backing of their voters, have knocked the ladder over. They knew only too well why they must thwart the two-state solution (in its original, pre-1967 borders format ). It would have led to different ways of living together and sharing the land. But the basic logic of these ways of life requires giving up Jewish hegemony and superiority.

Refuser Diaries: Noam Gur and Alon Gurman

Apr 11, 2012

Noam Gur and Alon Gurman

Noam Gur and Alon Gurman are keeping a diary of the week leading up to their refusal to serve in the Israeli military and their likely imprisonment. Here is the first installment:

Alon Gurman (Photo: Activestills)

The final countdown has begun. A week left and it’s the first time that I feel the pressure. Suddenly I feel as if there’s no time, and yet everything goes on as usual. Well, more or less anyway. My mom and I decided to go on a tour to South Mt. Hebron with an NGO called “Shovrim Shtika” (Breaking The Silence). It is guided tour with an ex-soldier in the Israeli military, through and area that often escapes the media and public eye. The tour has a strong effect on people, and once we are done, my mother seems wound up and ready to go on a demonstration against the occupation, despite the fear of military violence. In order to relax in preparation for my imprisonment, I try to spend a lot of time with friends, just relaxing. Today I did not get this chance, as I rush to an interview straight from the drop-off point of the tour. It was my first time on camera, and it didn’t feel too good. Any media coverage makes me feel exposed, and it is discomforting.  – Alon

Tuesday, 10th April, 2012

Today’s the day. I’ve been building up to this day. Today is the day when I am supposed to face the mighty challenge of – preparing my bag for imprisonment. Needless to say I didn’t really get to it. I look for something to do when eventually Noam arrives to Tel-Aviv early for her interview, and I pick her up and we spend some time talking. It helps a lot that we have each other to talk to. Many people have shared experience and support, but nothing compares to talking to someone who’s going through the same process as you are. After lunch we meet up again with a few friends to work on some posters for the demonstration we’ll have on our imprisonment. We are mostly quiet for most of the time, and burst out laughing every now and again from one thing or the other. It’s weird, because suddenly I realized how temporary it all is. I leave early for Arabic class. I had missed a few lessons and inform the group of my refusal for the first time. They are all very supportive. I rush to a staff meeting of a youth summer camp project. I feel preoccupied and later realize that I can’t bear the thought of doing anything that has nothing to do with either the occupation, resisting it, imprisonment, or relaxing in preparation. – Alon

Noam Gur (Photo: Activestills)

5 days. That’s what separates me from entering a closed compound, a military compound to be exact, that will be denying me from my freedom. We are rushing through the preparation – both on the personal and public aspect – and it seems like I’m done with the Bureaucracy and all the “materialistic” prep. Now, when I’m done with that, we have to talk, or think, about the personal aspect of refusing, the emotional part. It’s feels like that’s the time I supposed to be freaking out, but that doesn’t seem to have happened. All the support we got is amazing, and makes us remember how important our statement is to some people out there. Suddenly cameras are not so scary as they used to be, and angry reporters are becoming the joke of our day. And “JAIL” this huge word, this terrifying word and place, is so much less scary. –Noam

Orlando Fox affiliate calls neo-Nazis a ‘civil rights group’

Apr 11, 2012

Allison Deger

On Monday, during their coverage of the Trayvon Martin case, a local Fox news station reported “there’s another civil rights group in town, the National Socialist Movement.” Though it should be obvious by group’s name: the National Socialist Movement, somehow local Fox 35 made the error that this racist white supremacy crew was a “white rights organization” or a “civil rights group.” Fox’s Jennifer Bisram who contributed to the report also added: “at least ten Florida-based members armed and dressed in all black will patrol the city of Sanford every day, everywhere.”

The piece runs a little over two minutes, and even includes an interview with Jeff Schoep, a member of the racist Aryan organization, who said “blacks have Al Sharpton and the whites have the National Socialist Movement.” Schoep’s remarks did not raise any red flags from the Fox team, who gave him a platform to explain that “the white community…out of concern for their safety,” brought in his group.

After noticing their mistake, yesterday Fox posted anupdate from their editors: “We intended to refer to them as a ‘self-proclaimed’ civil rights group.

Sheizaf shreds Oren Op-Ed touting Israeli democracy

Apr 11, 2012

Annie Robbins

Noam Sheizaf (photo: Yossi Gurvitz)

Michael Oren is a master hasbarist. Albeit, nowhere as proficient nor eloquent as the first Mr. Hasbara, Abba Eban, but a master none the less. He’s creepy, slick and peddles himself off as a scholar.

When I first read Oren’s recent Op-Ed on Foreign Policy’s blog, it made me cringe, literally. For starters I was appalled that a site I respect and use as a frequent resource would stoop so low as to function as a blatant propaganda outfit for the Foreign Ministry of Israel (but that’s another matter altogether). Merely the title itself, “Israel’s Resilient Democracy,” made me want to gag. It starts out with this allegation:

The Jewish state, moreover, belongs to a tiny group of countries –…– never to have suffered intervals of non-democratic governance.

And then it just gets worse with every sentence.

972’s Noam Sheizaf takes him on, chews him up and spits him out. Heaven! Sheizaf says he will go “in depth”, and he does. In “Omissions, half-truths, lies: Ambassador Oren in Foreign Policy” Sheizaf completely eviscerates Oren over and over and over.

Here’s one example:

Ambassador Oren writes:

In fact, Israel has tolerated acts that would be deemed treasonous in virtually any other democracy. Ahmed Tibi, who once advised PLO Chairman Yasir Arafat and recently praised Palestinian “martyrs” — a well-known euphemism for suicide bombers — serves as a member and deputy speaker of the Knesset.

Context: Knesset Member Ahmad Tibi (Raam-Taal / United Arab List) was recently accused by a rightwing watchdog group of giving a speech more than a year ago in which he praised suicide attacks on Israeli civilians. When the full video of the speech was released, it turned out that Tibi was referring to Palestinians who were killed in protests and to civilians who lost their lives. The version released by the watchdog group was heavily edited to create a false impression.

As a result, journalist Ben-Dror Yemini of Maariv and The Jerusalem Post, a well-known critic of the Arab Knesset members and one of those who broke the shahid (martyr) story, retracted his accusation both on his blog and in the printed paper. Yemini even went on Israeli public radio, saying: “I admit I was wrong. We owe an apology to [MK] Tibi.” The leading Israeli paper Yedioth Ahronoth also published an apology for running this story in its printed edition.

Not only did MK Tibi never praise suicide bombing, he is extremely consistent in denouncing the killing of Israeli civilians. Tibi is also a passionate critic of Holocaust denial in the Arab world, and can often be heard saying that “there is nothing more immoral than Holocaust denial.” There are two options here: Either Prof. Oren knowingly repeated a blood libel against the deputy speaker of his own Knesset, or he failed to fact check the issue before repeating those accusations. Both cases say something of the nature of Prof. Oren’s work, and demonstrate how easy it is to demonize Palestinians in Israel today.

Sheizaf neither begins or ends there, he goes after Oren for perpetuating the myth of  Israeli Arab parties calling for the “dismantling the Jewish state” when in fact they repeatedly call for a “state for all its citizens.” He rips Oren over the British Mandate’s emergency regulations and administrative detention, the NGO fiasco, the boycott law, the Nakba Law, the erosion of democratic rights of Israeli citizens, and then skewers him over his condescending critique of Peter Beinart’s assertion that Israel bars Palestinians from citizenship and the right to vote in the state that controls their lives.

Sheirzaf asserts the heart of Oren’s text “intends to portray Israel as a tiny America, a bastion of civil rights in a hostile and strange environment,” and counters:

Let’s imagine those citizens surrounded by walls and fences and a system of dozens of roadblocks, some of them permanent with many appearing and disappearing every day, between the various suburbs and towns, so a route that could take 10 minute to drive regularly turns into a journey of hours. Let’s imagine them unable to relocate or travel abroad without a special permit, notoriously hard to obtain, from the military authorities.

And on top of this, they can’t vote.

And now let’s imagine this unique situation applied to a third of the population under the United State’s control – say 100 million – for two-thirds of the country’s history, meaning over 150 years. This would be the proper analogy, if we were to follow Ambassador Oren’s logic. It doesn’t sound very democratic.

Not very democratic indeed.

Sheizaf slays him at the end, it’s so much fun to read. Thank you Noam, fabulous.

A humble shepherd is run off his grandfather’s grandfather’s land because of settlers’ ‘security’

Apr 11, 2012

Philip Weiss

Peter Beinart was motivated to cry out to Americans about the occupation when he saw a shocking video of a Palestinian being arrested at his farm near Hebron for insisting on his rights to village water.

Well it’s two years after that video. And here is another, from last month, shocking in its bald exposure of the humiliations of Palestinians, inflicted by Jewish soldiers acting in my name and Beinart’s name.

A shepherd with a crooked staff insists on his right to graze his sheep on village lands near the settlement of Otniel. He is accompanied by Israeli and international activists, god bless them. The soldiers run him off.

You will see the shepherd getting angry, as he should get angry, at about minute 3. The man has nobility. (He is facing the same blank authority that Jews faced in the Pale of Settlement)

You will see the officer explaining that the settlers fear terrorists at minute 7:30 or so. And this is why the shepherd must not come too close. On his village lands.

This is ethnic cleansing before your eyes. It is the reason that so many despair of Partition, it hasn’t worked. There is one authority between the river and the sea, and the battle is to give the subject people their rights.

From Ron, the Brit in the video, writing to his community back home:

“Last Saturday (March 10th) I was in the South Hebron hills again with
Ta’ayush (the Jewish/Arab Partnership). A large group of activists
went to the village of At-Tuwani but I was assigned to a group of four
which was sent to the tiny community of Um-el-Amad. Our task was to
accompany local Palestinian shepherds as they took their flocks to
graze on privately-owned Palestinian land.

Our presence there was asked for because earlier in the week two
shepherds had been kidnapped by the Israeli military, taken to the
nearby settlement of Ot’niel and beaten up. Their ‘crime’ ? – they
were too close to the settlement, even though they were on their own

The video was filmed by Ta’ayush activists.

Just by way of explanation, the Israeli soldiers appeared a short time
after we arrived at the grazing areas, alerted by the settlement
security officer. The senior soldier was very aggressive and when the
shepherd refused to leave his land he told us we were detained. He was
obviously eager to arrest us, but only the police can arrest Israeli
citizens and internationals.

He then phoned the Israeli police who arrived 15 minutes later. The
senior police officer was much more reasonable, aware no doubt that we
were on privately-owned Palestinian land and there quite legally. (I
guess that he thought the idea of arresting us would mean lots of
paperwork for no real reason.) At one point he took the aggressive
soldier to one side ,arm round his shoulder. Shortly afterwards the
soldiers left , disconsolately, only to be replaced a few minutes
later by two more, one of whom was a more senior officer.

The officer asked us to move 100 metres away from the settlement
perimeter, explaining that his soldiers couldn’t see us from the
watchtower ! As we were on Palestinian land and no security threat, we
refused. He then left the scene as did the police. Our unjustified
detention was over.

It  was a small victory but without the presence of Ta’ayush, I
suspect the shepherds would have been expelled from their own land.”

‘What do you want from a 5 year old girl? She threatens your state?’: Israel raids a house in Nabi Saleh

Apr 11, 2012

Today in Palestine

Palestinian woman confronts Israeli thugs that entered her home in the middle of the night to interrogate her family wanted to wake up her 5 year old daughter. Palestinian woman wins. Bittersweet.

Choice quotes:

“I dont fear you, you’re in my house and you tell me to shut up, you shut up! You leave my house!”

“What do you want from a 5 year old girl? She threatens your state?  She threatens its security? Are you happy with your state?”

From the YouTube page (translation Austin Branion):

“Occupation forces stormed the village of Nabi Saleh after midnight, raiding and ransacking the house of photographer Bilal al-Tamimi. They withdrew after the outbreak of clashes with village youth and the pelting of IOF vehicles with stones.”

The Full Court Press on Iran: John Hagee, Franklin Graham, Press TV Bans, and the Hispan TV Affair

Mark Dankof in Washington, D. C. in November of 2011

“Time, numbers, and space are with the colored world, with the Muslim nationalists and against Israel.  What the colored world lacked has been unity and dynamism.  Well, Israel is contributing to the unification and activation of the colored world for war against the outsiders.  The white powers and the Israelis can never achieve ultimate and decisive force superiority over the colored world and the vast areas it populates.

“However, the western world–if guided by operational rationalism and calculation instead of mystical legalism, moralism, and traditionalism–could easily formulate propositions with the colored world mutually advantageous to all concerned.  Only a return to [American] neutrality could ensure against our government fighting a third world war against overwhelming numerical odds.  The more natives Americans kill, the better for the interests of native nationalisms.  The pressure will be only on the American taxpayers and conscripts for the wars of perpetual intervention.”

Lawrence Dennis, American Nationalist, the 1950s

The Full Court Press on Iran continues unabated.  The ongoing escalation in economic sanctions targeting Iranian oil, banking, and trade are accompanied by Zionist inspired terror within that country, using the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq (MEK/PMOI/MKO), PJAK, and Jundallah in the carrying out of premeditated murder in Tehran, Iranian Azerbaijan, Diyala, Khuzestan, and Balochistan provinces.  The Washington Post concedes that there has been a five-fold “unexplained” increase in explosions in the last two years at Iranian nuclear sites and military installations, oil and gas facilities and pipelines, and electrical plants.  This is supplemented by American, British, and Israeli financial support for various activities of political insurrection against the IRI regime, American violations of Iranian airspace with drones, and the deployment of three United States aircraft carrier task forces and two Marine amphibious assault units near the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.  The winds of a totally immoral and unjustifiable war of aggression continue to blow with greater force and speed.

I have a reiteration of a prediction with my own subsequent addendum.  Lawrence Dennis, the great American Nationalist theoretician, is certainly correct in his assessment of the present crisis uttered over half a century ago.

Yes, this war will happen as Dennis predicted.  But it is also a war that will irrevocably destroy what little remains of the United States and the Western World from the immediate post-World War II configuration of powers and cultures.  The good news is that Israel will also collapse over time, along with Zionist fiat banking; fractional reserve banking; usury; Jewish cultural subversion of Christian and Islamic influence; and every other corresponding cancer of the New World Order.  Out of short-term tragedy will emerge an aftermath in this present world based upon hope and life once more, or the Eschaton itself.

Yet the chief beneficiaries and apologists for The Beast will not go down without a fight.  There are three (3) prime current examples of this manifesting their poison-for-pay agenda in the interest of igniting a Zionist inspired Holocaust in Iran.

The first example comes from the Rotund Reaper of Deception himself, John Hagee, whose Christians United for Israel sponsored a March 28 airing of the agitation-propaganda film Iranium at the University of Texas in San Antonio, a film about the alleged threat to the West posed by a weaponized Iranian nuclear program.  The claims of the film are a repudiation of the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on the subject produced by America’s 16 intelligence agencies, and what has emerged from the International Atomic Energy Agency as well.  One of the film’s chief spokespersons is Clair Lopez of the Central Intelligence Agency and the Iran Policy Committee (IPC), the chief PR arm of the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq (MEK) in Washington.  Ms. Lopez, and IPC chief Dr. Raymond Tanter of Georgetown University, are key links in a spiderweb of American intelligence front organizations with symbiotic links to the Israeli Mossad and a Jewish-driven Neo-Conservative movement which has hijacked the American Right and much of the national security apparatus of the United States as well.

The second example has emerged this week, with the April 2012 Special Issue of Decision magazine, the flagship publication of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.  It is entitled “Radical Islam’s Global War on Christians.”

A number of observations about this issue and the organization that produced it are in order.  It is a matter of well buried but public record, that Billy Graham’s success for 60 years as America’s leading Christian Right evangelist is inextricably linked to his effective recruitment and deployment over the decades by the William Randolph Hearst media conglomerate, which in turn was effectively serving the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the emerging American corporate power structure during the Cold War and the anti-Communist crusade which accompanied it.  Billy Graham was the pivotal figure in the enlistment of millions of American Protestant Evangelicals in this endeavor for forces not understood by the faithful.  The outcome of this crusade was the end of the Soviet Union in 1989 as it had been previously constituted.  That achievement was laudable.

But the crowd enamored of Graham was never informed that Soviet Bolshevism and its exportation abroad were largely empowered by Jewish recruits and international financiers like Jacob Schiff and the House of Rothschild.  Concurrently, these American Protestant Evangelicals were never filled in by the Graham Empire or its Decision magazine of the disproportionate Jewish role in pursing a targeted strategy of destroying Christian culture in the United States via the abortion industry; the homosexual rights movement; the radical feminist movement; and the importation of Freud’s Vienna and the Frankfurt School for their subsequent infiltration of the highest echelons of American government, media, legal, and educational matrixes.  Why?

Clearly part of the answer is the influence of the Christian Zionist heresy fed by John Nelson Darby and the Scofield Reference Bible, and driven by Chicago businessman and Dispensationalist William E. Blackstone in the 19th and 20th centuries.  Additionally, Billy and Franklin Graham presumably understood the necessity of cooperation with the Synagogue of Satan (Revelation 2:9) as a prerequisite to their own survival and promotion in an America increasingly co-opted as the driving surrogate force for Globalism, International Central Banking, and the New World Order.  The success of this endgame necessitates carefully recruited front men in both secular and ecclesiastical realms.  Understood in this context, Billy and Franklin Graham and John Hagee are the religious flipside of Fox News and CNN, singing the same tune in total concert with the latter regarding the necessity for war.   Onward Christian Soldiers?

Analyzing the contents of Decision’s “Radical Islam’s Global War on Christians” reveals other unpleasant truths.  Decision cites Frank Gaffney’s Center for Security Policy and ex-CIA chief R. James Woolsey as sources for its presentation.  Gaffney’s long standing membership as a friendly source for the Israeli Lobby and as part of a larger network in the Neo-Conservative constellation for World Zionism, is not mentioned.  Neither is the sordid role of R. James Woolsey in receiving thousands of dollars for his public role in attempting to have the Communist Mujahedeen-e-Khalq cult delisted from the list of Terrorist Organizations compiled by the State Department.

Franklin Graham apparently has no problem with complete Zionist cooperation with such an organization, infamous for its warped ideological synthesis of Communism and Islam, its murder of Americans in Pahlavi Iran several generations ago, its murder of Kurds at the behest of Saddam Hussein in the 1980s, its long history of terror and murder of Iranians since the Revolution of 1979, and the cultic leadership of Miryam and Massoud Rajavi in the brainwashing and terror applied to the organization’s own members when necessary.  Graham, like Rick Santorum and Company, apparently also approves of the premeditated murders of Iranian scientists in recent years, along with all of the other aforementioned acts of war directed at that country.  All in the name of  a loving Jesus, of course.

The Mossad and the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq (MEK/PMOI): Pals of Franklin Graham’s friends, including R. James Woolsey of the CIA.

Former CIA Station Chief Philip Giraldi of the Council for the National Interest, provides the context for understanding the nonsense promoted by Franklin Graham and Decision magazine in the former’s essay entitled, The Islamophobia Excuse.”  Christians might also enjoy comparing the Koran’s evaluation of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary with that proferred by the Jewish Talmud, or reading Tarif Khalidi’s The Muslim Jesus:  Sayings and Stories in Islamic Literature.  Or asking why Christian Right sock puppets like Franklin Graham and John Hagee are siding with the enemies of Christianity in the American Culture Wars, even as the Islamic world stands against these trends in the United Nations being promoted and financed internationally by Hillary Clinton’s State Department in the world body.

And finally, someone needs to ask Franklin Graham what the Bible has to say about the reasons for the national Jewish disenfranchisement at the hands of Babylon (A. D. 586) and Rome (A. D. 70).  Why did the Jewish-inspired mob demand Pilate’s release of Barabbas, the Menachem Begin of his time (Matthew 27)?  Was it because that mob, working in conjunction with the Jewish Chief Priests, Scribes, and Pharisees of Jerusalem, wanted the death of a Messiah who had repudiated both Jewish racial supremacism and a kingdom based in this world and not the next?  If so, why affirm that ideology now in the 21st century as the chief foundational reason for the establishment of the modern Zionist State of Israel?  And risk the survivability of the United States in the process?  Franklin Graham and Decision magazine are stone cold silent.  This is one stone that will not be rolled away from the Tomb serving as the Repository of the Secrets of Subterranean Masters.

And given the ersatz American patriotism of John Hagee, Franklin Graham, and Company, why is their absolute silence on the nature of Jesus Christ’s teachings about the Kingdom of God in the New Testament accompanied by their identical AWOL status on Deir Yassin, the Meyer Lansky crime syndicate’s relationship to the Zionist State, the Lavon Affair, the Kennedy Assassination, the USS Liberty attack, and the laundry list of Israeli espionage operations against the United States since 1948 including the Pollard spy case and the PROMIS affair?  Will following the money trail provide the answers?

The third example of the Full Court Press on Iran does not involve promoting and financing Israel’s friends.  It has every thing to do with its logical counterpart: silencing Iran’s opportunity to make its own direct public case to the world, and to an American public presently at the mercy of Zionist Corporate Media.

Only a fool could fail to see the implications of the Ofcom case made against Press TV in the UK, or the more recent ban on that network in Germany courtesy of the Munich regulatory agency that ordered Press TV removed from SES Astra.  These bans will likely be accompanied in the future by regulatory actions againstHispan TV, the media outreach being developed by the national Iranian news agency for the airing of issues in South America.  Adam Housley of InterAmerican Security Watch sounds the Neo-Conservative alarm at such a prospect in Iran Moving in on Latin American Television Market.  The United States Congress joins in Mr. Housley’s chorus by adding the Countering Iran in the Western Hemisphere Act” which will eventually pass both the House and Senate in some final version.  These alarms have nothing to do with the canards of “Anti-Semitism” and “Terrorism.”  They have everything to do with both North and South Americans having the chance to see patriotic and academically respectable Americans like Dr. Paul Craig Roberts, Dr. Philip Giraldi, Dr. Paul Sheldon Foote, Dr. E. Michael Jones, and Mark Glenn, making the case not simply for avoiding war with Iran, but providing an honest analysis of who and what has shoplifted the American political process, the economy, the media, and the culture.

The First Amendment and Jeffersonianism will triumph.  The descendants of Lawrence Dennis, like Michael Collins Piper, Mark Glenn, Mark Dankof, and E. Michael Jones will emerge victorious.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the domestic American Jewish Lobby, and their pit puppies in the American Establishment understand this.  If Press TV, Hispan TV, Russia Today, and other international media outlets capable of reaching American and European audiences from abroad ever succeed in facilitating the connection of the real dots in this Internet age on the part of masses of people in the Western world, these jokers are finished.  The game will be over.

But the Beast will not go out without a fight.  It will begin with a False Flag Incident which mirrors Fort Sumter or the Kuwaiti Baby Incubator Fraud of 1990.  And as Billy Graham’s handler, William Randolph Hearst once put it, “You give me the pictures, I’ll give you the war.”

Only this time, the Good Guys will win the war the Bad Guys begin.  And Franklin Graham will join John Hagee and Howard Phillips in being on oxygen.

Kofi Annan, Special Envoy for the United Nations and Arab League stated, in his remarks to the United Nations informal session of the General Assembly, April 6, 2012:  “I ask all States with influence on the parties in Syria to use it now to ensure an end to the bloodshed and the beginning of dialogue.”  Annan stated that, the Syrian government having agreed to withdraw troops from population centers by April 10, “a cessation of violence is demanded of the opposition by April 12,” and he twice stated:  “I call upon all parties with influence on the opposition to urge that they also cease all violence.”  United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stated, in his opening remarks to that meeting:  “Further militarization of the conflict is not a solution,” and Qatar’s ambassador Nasser Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, President of the General Assembly, acknowledged that the ramifications of policies:  “depending on what comes next, could have an impact on the whole region.”  According to The New York Times description of the April 1 “Friends of Syria,” meeting in Istanbul:

“The United States and dozens of other countries moved closer on Sunday to direct intervention in the fighting in Syria, with Arab nations pledging $100 million to pay opposition fighters, and the Obama administration agreeing to send ‘communication equipment to help the rebels organize and evade Syria’s military’…the moves reflected a growing consensus, at least among the officials who met here under the rubric “Friends of Syria,” that mediation efforts by the United Nations peace envoy Kofi Annan, were failing to end the violence….With Russia and China blocking United Nations measures that could open the way for military action, the countries lined up against the government of President Bashar al-Assad sought to bolster Syria’s beleaguered opposition through means that seemed to stretch the definition of humanitarian assistance and blur the line between so-called lethal and non-lethal support.”

Although this is a surprisingly candid disclosure by The New York Times concerning the nature of “support” for the Syrian opposition, the Times article apparently misses the point.   In fact, it is the threat that UN Special Envoy Kofi Annan might succeed in bringing about some form of cessation of violence in Syria, without demanding regime change, that motivates the “Friends of Syria” commitment of  financial and military aid for the Syrian opposition on April 1, ten days before the deadline set by Kofi Annan for Syrian government withdrawal from population centers (a deadline initially accepted by the Syrian government) and 12 days before the demand that the opposition similarly cease all forms of violence. In one stroke, on April 1, the Friends of Syria’s commitment of financial and military aid to the opposition eliminated any incentive or need for the opposition to enter into dialogue with the Syrian government, which would be the first step toward peace in that country.  “Leading from behind,” US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared, at a press conference that day:  “Assad must go.”

Assured of massive external support that might enable them to fight successfully to overthrow the government of Assad, the Al-Qaeda infiltrated opposition has every reason for confidence in ultimate victory, and has every reason for sabotaging the success of Kofi Annan’s efforts.  So far, the United Nations has failed to support or provide legal justification for the military intervention that would be required to overthrow the government of Assad, and the Presidential Statements unanimously issued by the Security Council support Kofi Annan’s six point proposal, which omits the requirement that Assad relinquish power, and demands that both the Syrian government and the opposition engage in dialogue.  The Security Council Presidential Statement contains calls for a “mechanism to monitor the end of violence,” and Syria’s government welcomed the arrival of the UN team, led by Norwegian Major General Robert Mood, to prepare for the deployment of observers.  There is, however, an Achilles’ heel in the April 5th Security Council Presidential Statement which concludes:  “The Security Council requests the Envoy to update the council on the cessation of violence in accordance with the above timeline, and progress toward implementation of his six-point proposal in its entirety.  In the light of these reports, the Security Council will consider further steps as appropriate.”  What those “further steps” will be is not made explicit.  However, in the context of history, it does not take much imagination to recognize the potential (and probably intended) threat contained in the final sentence of UNSC Presidential Statement S/PRST/2012/10.

On February 17, the United States Director of National Intelligence, James R. Clapper, told Congress that Syrian opposition groups have been infiltrated by Al-Qaeda, allegations that are confirmed by the leader of Al-Qaeda, Ayman-al-Zawahri declaring his support for the Syrian opposition, and exhorting Muslims in Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan to aid the Syrian rebels.  The “Friends of Syria” pledge of support to the Syrian opposition is no less than support for increased action by terrorists, now unabashedly encouraged by the US commitment of aid to the Anti-Assad forces.

On April 4th, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated:  “Everybody backed Kofi Annan’s peace plan.  Then all of a sudden another meeting of the Friends of Syria group makes decisions urging the Syria opposition to refuse negotiations and arm, promising new sanctions against Syria.”  On April 7, President Assad stated that terrorist acts had increased, stating:  “The terrorist acts committed by the armed terrorist groups in Syria have increased during the last few days, particularly after reaching an understanding on Kofi Annan’s plan,” said Assad’s letter to the United Nations Secretary General and President of the UN Security Council.  On March 21, the Security Council had issued a press statement condemning the terrorist attacks that occurred in Damascus on 17th and 19th March, and in Aleppo on March 18. However, according to background reports, the UK President of the Security Council for March refused to agree to the press statement urged by the Russian Federation, condemning the terrorist attacks, until Russia agreed to support the Presidential Statement, the same day, threatening the “further steps.”  If true, this alleged blackmail of Russia, withholding condemnation of terrorism to force Russia’s acceptance of the “further steps,” raises serious questions about the motive of the Security Council President who was, very likely acting at the behest of the US/NATO states supporting the Syrian opposition, and their admittedly terrorist members.

Escalating terrorist action, in the days just preceding the April 10th deadline inevitably provokes the Syrian government, and as bloodshed continues, the Syrian government is now requiring a written commitment by the opposition of support for the peace plan drawn up by Kofi Annan.  One could make a strong case that the April 1 Friends of Syria declaration of financial and military support for the opposition was deliberately intended to sabotage Kofi Annan’s efforts for a cease-fire and negotiated peace, and set the stage for civil war, which will be portrayed, inevitably as the responsibility of the Syrian government.  At this point the now infamous “Responsibility to Protect” (R2P) will be invoked.

On February 21, Indian Ambassador Hardeep Singh Puri, a member of the Security Council stated:  “As developments in Libya and Syria show, the principle of R2P is being used for regime change.  Consider this:  Resolution 1973 had five points – ceasefire with the mediation of the AU, use of all necessary means to protect civilians, no-fly zone, arms embargo and targeted sanctions.  How was Resolution 1973 implemented?  As soon as the resolution was adopted, the overenthusiastic members of the international community stopped talking of the AU.  Its efforts to bring about a ceasefire were completely ignored.  The only aspect of the resolution of interest to them was “use of all necessary means” to bomb the hell out of Libya.”

“ In clear violation of the resolution, arms were supplied to civilians without any consideration of its consequences.  No-fly zone was selectively implemented only for flights in and out of Tripoli.  And targeted measures were implemented insofar as they suited the objective of regime change.  All kinds of mechanisms were created to support one party of the conflict and attempts were made to bypass the sanctions committee by proposing resolutions to the council.  It goes without saying that the pro-interventionist powers did not ever try to bring about a peaceful end to the crisis in Libya.  Now consider Syria…as early as May 2011 a resolution was proposed to impose sanctions.  President Assad was declared to have lost legitimacy.  The opposition was discouraged to engage with the government and the armed groups started receiving support ostensibly to defend themselves.  These examples clearly underline the problem.  The problem in the eyes of the vast majority of the international community is simple and clear:  the principle of R2P is being selectively used to promote national interest rather than protect civilians…If this does not change, I am afraid the noble idea of R2P will come into disrepute.  Indeed, the Libyan case has already given R2P a bad name…We must not end with a situation where saving hundreds causes the killing of thousands.  The UN must act impartially and must not take sides.”

Maneuvers to manipulate the United Nations into some form of support for military action in Syria included violating UN General Assembly Rules of Procedure to force passage by the General Assembly of draft resolution A/66/L.36, “condemning human rights violations by the Syrian authorities” on February 16th.  The Russian Federation voted against the resolution, stating that it did not meet the criteria for ending the violence in Syria.  The Russian “proposals to place reasonable demands on the opposition forces to disassociate themselves from armed groups, and to demand that those groups cease their attacks, had not been accepted.”

Though the February 16th UN General Assembly resolution is not legally binding, as a Security Council resolution would have been, its public relations impact should not be underestimated, and can be used to make a case for invoking R2P to attempt to justify military intervention in Syria.  Whether or not US/NATO forces get the legal authorization for military intervention from the United Nations will be determined in the very near future, and will depend largely upon the strength of Russia and China’s position.  The geopolitical stakes are huge.  Syria is Russia’s last foothold in the Middle East. And it appears that NATO is establishing a foothold within the very heart of Russia, having obtained agreement for a NATO transit hub on the Volga, the river connecting European Russia with the vast oil wealth and resource rich Eastern part of the Russian Federation.

On March 9th, US Senate Minority leader Richard Luger introduced the “NATO Enhancement Act” which seeks to encompass Georgia and Ukraine within NATO’s umbrella. The Pentagon is planning to deploy “missile defense” in Asia and the Middle East, which will constitute a threat to China, similar to the threat to Russia resulting from the placement of “missile defense” in Europe.  It now appears possible that the only curb on NATO’s global dominance will be the economic crisis plaguing NATO’s capitalist partners, and the violent riots now occurring in NATO countries, as civilian victims of “austerity measures” are demonstrating to protest the slashing of social protection programs required to service the enormous cost of militarization necessary for NATO membership.

Will there eventually be a “NATO Spring” of popular uprisings against the dictatorship of NATO, and the militarization of the planet?

Those who lend their pen to the Palestinian cause know about Wikipedia Jews, a term that was coined a few years ago. It refers to a bunch of rabid and crypto Zionists who constantly vandalise encyclopaedia entries to do with Palestine, Palestinian activists and Israeli atrocities.

“We want to make sure what is written there (in Wikipedia) is Zionist in nature…” Naftali Bennett, Yesha Council Director

“We came here to learn more about how we, as Israelis and as Jews, can defend Israel on line..” Miriam Sc

“We came here to learn more about how we, as Israelis and as Jews, can defend Israel on line..” Miriam Schwab, Blogger

Truthfulness is clearly not a major concern as far as those ZioPedia editors are concerned.

The following is an old article of mine, it was written when the story  broke out:

The Guardian reported today that two Israeli groups have set up training courses in  subversive Wikipedia editing aiming  to ‘show the other side’ of the Jewish State.

According to the Guardian two Israeli groups seeking to gain the upper hand in the online debate have launched a course in “Zionist editing”.

Yesha Council, representing the Jewish settler movement ran their first workshop this week in Jerusalem, teaching participants how to ‘rewrite’ and ‘revise’ some of the most “hotly disputed pages of the online reference site.”

The Wikipideia project is a phenomenal humanist and universalist  initiative. Hence, it should not take us by surprise that its biggest opponents are  tribal operators, amongst them Zionists, crypto Zionists and the so called ‘Jewish anti Zionists’.

One Jerusalem-based Wikipedia editor, told the Guardian that publicising the new Zionist conspiratorial initiative might not be such a ‘good idea’. “Going public in the past has had a bad effect,” she says. “There is a war going on and unfortunately the way to fight it has to be underground.”

One may be surprised to discover that chief amongst ‘Wikipedia Jews’ is alleged ‘Anti Zionist’ Roland Rance.  Rance, is a London based Jewish Marxist who spends  most of his time peppering Wikipedia entries with Judeo-centric context. Roland Rance was also  one of the leading opponents of Deir Yassin Remembered  (DYR),   probably the most successful Palestinian solidarity operation in the UK.

Here is a snapshot of Rance’s relentless attempt to vandalise Israel Shamir’s Wikipedia entry last week.

Wikipedia Jews have history behind them. According to the Guardian, in 2008, members of the hawkish pro-Israel watchdog Camera who secretly planned to edit Wikipedia were banned from the site by administrators. There is a war  going on my own Wikipedia entry. More than once Wikipedia Administrators have been called in just to remove contamination by Rance and other Zionists.

The Wikipedia project is all about knowledge and the availability of knowledge. Is it a coincidence that political Jews in the right and in the left are united to subvert this project? I do not think so. Once again we come across what seems to be  Zionist continuum. They are all united against knowledge.

Apparently The organisiers of the  Zionist Wikipedia courses, are already planning a competition to find the “Best Zionist editor”, with a prize of a hot-air balloon trip over Israel.  I guess that by now we know who should be the candidate for the blue & white air balloon adventure.

Sarah Gillespie ‘The War On Trevor’

Singer songwriter Sarah Gillespie’s anti-war song The War on Trevor, is a 15-minute narrative piece based partly on Brahms’Variations on a Theme by Joseph Haydn. Set in London, The War on Trevor depicts the plights of an ordinary Londoner who suddenly finds himself accused of various wrong-doings, ranging from public indecency and infidelity to terrorism.

We are never drawn into Trevor’s guilt or innocence. Instead we enter a sinister, Kafka-esque world in which guilt and innocence have become irrelevant. WYATT/ATZMON/STEPHEN: For the Ghosts Within

Domino DNO271 (LP). 2010. Gilad Atzmon, prod.; Robert Wyatt, Jamie Johnson, engs. ADD? TT: 56:13

From the very start, as it shudders and quakes with the sort of alarming string arrangement you might hear in the soundtrack to an old black-and-white romance, For the Ghosts Withinannounces itself as a heavy, bittersweet treat. This unapologetically melodramatic stuff is syrupy with Ros Stephen’s soaring string arrangements, Gilad Atzmon’s honeyed clarinet and alto sax, and Robert Wyatt’s strange, ethereal voice, all quivering and aching like fall’s golden leaves on thin tree branches. Listen, for instance, as Wyatt’s voice rises with the violins and clarinet, holding on to his words (“you were there . . . for me . . . in the air . . .”) as if they were the tail ends of dreams, until he no longer can and lets them fall (“long before the day that I was born”), as if each syllable were a step back down to earth. It’s crazy. You can’t help but smile even as the tears trickle down your trembling cheeks. XXXIV-3)

Itamar Yaoz-Kest

Israel National News published today a poem by Itamar Yaoz-Kest, a Holocaust survivor. The poem is presented as “letter-poem in reply to German Günter Grass’ attack.” The poem is a clear reminder of horrific danger that is embedded within Jewish identity politics and contemporary Jewish nationalism. It is a glimpse into unique psychotic genocidal sense of retribution.

The “letter-poem” starts as follows:

I want to be a danger,

I want to be a danger to the world,

so that after my destruction, not a single blade of grass will remain on the face of the Earth,

or a single blade of grass for Gunther Grass’s pipe,

upon the Earth where, since I was born, I pose a danger to the world.

Because it is my right!

It is my right to live or die while annihilating my annihilators, without riding again as a crying-boy in a transport train,

Into the world-vacuum, while placing my head in the lap of a mother who is disappearing into the fresh air of the Land of Wotan,

and the urine tin darts dark-yellow specks onto the walls of the cabin – like gunshots that spray

a yellowish-reddish liquid from besides the train guards, and among them – maybe – the soldier G.G., also, wearing a steel helmet.

Later in the poem, Yaoz-Kest issues what appears to be a statement of intent along the lines of “the Samson Option”:

“For it is the right of the Nation of Israel to finally shut the gates to the world after it leaves this place (not of its free will!), and we have the right to say, at the price of the 3,000 year old fear: “If you force us yet again to descend from the face of the Earth to the depths of the Earth – let the Earth roll toward the Nothingness.”

The Samson Option – taking out Israel’s enemies with it, possibly causing irreparable damage to the entire world – has been a phantasmic Israeli strategy since the early 1950’s.

The message for the rest of us is clear- Israel is the biggest threat to world peace. Time is overdue to discharge the Jewish State of its destructive power.

Washington’s Blog: The Fuel Pools of Fukushima: THE GREATEST SHORT-TERM THREAT TO HUMANITY

Fukushima: A Nuclear War without a War: The Unspoken Crisis of Worldwide Nuclear Radiation

by Prof. Michel Chossudovsky
GR ONLINE READER. The dumping of highly radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean constitutes a potential trigger to a process of global radioactive contamination… Eventually all major regions of the World will be affected.

“Based on U.S. Energy Department data, assuming a total of 11,138 spent fuel assemblies are being stored at the Dai-Ichi site, nearly all, which is in pools. They contain roughly 336 million curies (~1.2 E+19 Bq) of long-lived radioactivity. About 134 million curies is Cesium-137 — roughly 85 times the amount of Cs-137 released at the Chernobyl accident as estimated by the U.S. National Council on Radiation Protection (NCRP). The total spent reactor fuel inventory at the Fukushima-Daichi site contains nearly half of the total amount of Cs-137 estimated by the NCRP to have been released by all atmospheric nuclear weapons testing, Chernobyl, and world-wide reprocessing plants (~270 million curies or ~9.9 E+18 Becquerel). It is important for the public to understand that reactors that have been operating for decades, such as those at the Fukushima-Dai-Ichi site have generated some of the largest concentrations of radioactivity on the planet.” (Robert Alvarez, former Senior Policy Adviser to the Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for National Security and the Environment at the U.S. Department of Energy)

The Greatest Single Threat to Humanity: Fuel Pool Number 4

We noted days after the Japanese earthquake that the biggest threat was from the spent fuel rods in the fuel pool at Fukushima unit number 4, and not from the reactors themselves. See this and this. We noted in February:

Scientists say that there is a 70% chance of a magnitude 7.0 earthquake hitting Fukushima this year, and a 98% chance within the next 3 years.

Given that nuclear expert Arnie Gundersen says that an earthquake of 7.0 or larger could cause the entire fuel pool structure collapse, it is urgent that everything humanly possible is done to stabilize the structure housing the fuel pools at reactor number 4.

Tepco is doing some construction at the building… it is a race against time under very difficult circumstances, and hopefully Tepco will win.

As AP points out:

The structural integrity of the damaged Unit 4 reactor building has long been a major concern among experts because a collapse of its spent fuel cooling pool could cause a disaster worse than the three reactor meltdowns.

Gundersen (who used to build spent fuel pools) explains that there is no protection surrounding the radioactive fuel in the pools. He warns that – if the fuel pools at reactor 4 collapse due to an earthquake – people should get out of Japan, and residents of the West Coast of America and Canada should shut all of their windows and stay inside for a while.

The fuel pool number 4 is apparently not in great shape, and there have already been countless earthquakes near the Fukushima region since the 9.0 earthquake last March.

Germany’s ZDF tv quotes nuclear engineer Yukitero Naka as saying:

If another earthquake occurs then the building [number 4] could collapse and another chain reaction could very likely occur.

(Unit 4 contains plutonium as well as other radioactive wastes.)

Mainchi reported on Monday:

The storage pool in the No. 4 reactor building has a total of 1,535 fuel rods, or 460 tons of nuclear fuel, in it. The 7-story building itself has suffered great damage, with the storage pool barely intact on the building’s third and fourth floors. The roof has been blown away. If the storage pool breaks and runs dry, the nuclear fuel inside will overheat and explode, causing a massive amount of radioactive substances to spread over a wide area. Both the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and French nuclear energy company Areva have warned about this risk.

A report released in February by the Independent Investigation Commission on the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Accident stated that the storage pool of the plant’s No. 4 reactor has clearly been shown to be “the weakest link” in the parallel, chain-reaction crises of the nuclear disaster. The worse-case scenario drawn up by the government includes not only the collapse of the No. 4 reactor pool, but the disintegration of spent fuel rods from all the plant’s other reactors. If this were to happen, residents in the Tokyo metropolitan area would be forced to evacuate.

Former Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Sumio Mabuchi, who was appointed to the post of then Prime Minister Naoto Kan’s advisor on the nuclear disaster immediately after its outbreak, proposed the injection of concrete from below the No. 4 reactor to the bottom of the storage pool, Chernobyl-style.

“Because sea water was being pumped into the reactor, the soundness of the structure (concrete corrosion and deterioration) was questionable. There also were doubts about the calculations made on earthquake resistance as well,” said one government source familiar with what took place at the time. “[F]uel rod removal will take three years. Will the structure remain standing for that long?

Asahi noted last month that – if Unit 4 pool gets a crack from an earthquake and leaks, it would be the end for Tokyo.

Kevin Kamps said last month:

Unit 4 storage pool… The entire building is listing including the pool. What they have is steel jacks underneath the pool to try to keep the floor from falling out or the pool from flipping over.

If that cooling water supply is lost, it will be just a few hours at most before that waste is on fire. 135 tons outside of any radioactive containment. They would be direct releases into the environment. 100% of cesium-137 could be released to the environment.

Former U.N. adviser Akio Matsumura – whose praises have been sung by Mikhail Gorbachev, U.S. Ambassadors Stephen Bosworth and Glenn Olds, and former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State and Goldman Sachs co-chair John C. Whitehead – notes:

The unit suffered enormous damage during the tsunami—a hydrogen explosion blew the roof off, leaving the highly radioactive fuel pool exposed to the open air. If another high level earthquake hits the area, the building will certainly collapse. Japanese and American meteorologists have predicted that such a strong earthquake is indeed likely to hit this year.

The meltdown and unprecedented release of radiation that would ensue is the worst case scenario that then-Prime Minister Kan and other former officials have discussed in the past months. He warned during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos that such an accident would force the evacuation of the 35 million people in Tokyo, close half of Japan and compromise the nation’s sovereignty. Such a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe is unimaginable. Hiroshi Tasaka, a nuclear engineer and special adviser to Prime Minister Kan immediately following the crisis, said the crisis “just opened Pandora’s Box.”

The current Japanese government has not yet mentioned the looming disaster, ostensibly to not incite panic in the public. Nevertheless, action must be taken quickly. This website over the last year has published a running commentary from scientists explaining why Reactor 4 must be stabilized immediately, who might be able to accomplish such a task, and why the situation has largely gone unnoticed. We believe an independent, international team of structural engineers and other advisers must be assembled and deployed immediately. Mounting public pressure would force the Japanese government to take action. We hope these resources are helpful in educating the public about the crisis that we face.

As the eminent German physicist Dr. Hans-Peter Durr said ten months ago, if the spent fuel pool spills, we will be in a situation where science never imagined we could be.

Matsumura was told that if the fuel pool at unit 4 collapses or the water spills out, so much radiation will spew out for 50 years that no one will be able to approach Fukushima:

Even more dramatically, Matsumura writes:

Japan’s former Ambassador to Switzerland, Mr. Mitsuhei Murata, was invited to speak at the Public Hearing of the Budgetary Committee of the House of Councilors on March 22, 2012, on the Fukushima nuclear power plants accident. Before the Committee, Ambassador Murata strongly stated that if the crippled building of reactor unit 4—with 1,535 fuel rods in the spent fuel pool 100 feet (30 meters) above the ground—collapses, not only will it cause a shutdown of all six reactors but will also affect the common spent fuel pool containing 6,375 fuel rods, located some 50 meters from reactor 4. In both cases the radioactive rods are not protected by a containment vessel; dangerously, they are open to the air. This would certainly cause a global catastrophe like we have never before experienced. He stressed that the responsibility of Japan to the rest of the world is immeasurable. Such a catastrophe would affect us all for centuries. Ambassador Murata informed us that the total numbers of the spent fuel rods at the Fukushima Daiichi site excluding the rods in the pressure vessel is 11,421 (396+615+566+1,535+994+940+6375).

I asked top spent-fuel pools expert Mr. Robert Alvarez, former Senior Policy Adviser to the Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for National Security and the Environment at the U.S. Department of Energy, for an explanation of the potential impact of the 11,421 rods.

I received an astounding response from Mr. Alvarez [updated 4/5/12]:

In recent times, more information about the spent fuel situation at the Fukushima-Dai-Ichi site has become known. It is my understanding that of the 1,532 spent fuel assemblies in reactor No. 304 assemblies are fresh and unirradiated. This then leaves 1,231 irradiated spent fuel rods in pool No. 4, which contain roughly 37 million curies (~1.4E+18 Becquerel) of long-lived radioactivity. The No. 4 pool is about 100 feet above ground, is structurally damaged and is exposed to the open elements. If an earthquake or other event were to cause this pool to drain this could result in a catastrophic radiological fire involving nearly 10 times the amount of Cs-137 released by the Chernobyl accident.

The infrastructure to safely remove this material was destroyed as it was at the other three reactors. Spent reactor fuel cannot be simply lifted into the air by a crane as if it were routine cargo. In order to prevent severe radiation exposures, fires and possible explosions, it must be transferred at all times in water and heavily shielded structures into dry casks.. As this has never been done before, the removal of the spent fuel from the pools at the damaged Fukushima-Dai-Ichi reactors will require a major and time-consuming re-construction effort and will be charting in unknown waters. Despite the enormous destruction cased at the Da–Ichi site, dry casks holding a smaller amount of spent fuel appear to be unscathed.

Based on U.S.

It is important for the public to understand that reactors that have been operating for decades, such as those at the Fukushima-Dai-Ichi site have generated some of the largest concentrations of radioactivity on the planet.

Many of our readers might find it difficult to appreciate the actual meaning of the figure, yet we can grasp what 85 times more Cesium-137 than the Chernobyl would mean. It would destroy the world environment and our civilization. This is not rocket science, nor does it connect to the pugilistic debate over nuclear power plants. This is an issue of human survival.

There was a Nuclear Security Summit Conference in Seoul on March 26 and 27, and Ambassador Murata and I made a concerted effort to find someone to inform the participants from 54 nations of the potential global catastrophe of reactor unit 4. We asked several participants to share the idea of an Independent Assessment team comprised of a broad group of international experts to deal with this urgent issue.

I would like to introduce Ambassador Murata’s letter to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to convey this urgent message and also his letter to Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda for Japanese readers. He emphasized in the statement that we should bring human wisdom to tackle this unprecedented challenge.

Ambassador Murata’s letter says:

It is no exaggeration to say that the fate of Japan and the whole world depends on NO.4 reactor. This is confirmed by most reliable experts like Dr. Arnie Gundersen or Dr. Fumiaki Koide.

Anti-nuclear physician Dr. Helen Caldicott says that if fuel pool 4 collapses, she will evacuate her family from Boston and move them to the Southern Hemisphere. This is an especially dramatic statement given that the West Coast is much more directly in the path of Fukushima radiation than the East Coast.

Will humanity rise to the occasion, and figure out how to stabilize fuel pool number 4 before catastrophe strikes?

Or will modern civilization win a Darwin award for failing to pay attention to the real threats?

Gaza municipality warns of humanitarian disaster

Gaza municipality has warned that a humanitarian disaster might soon befall the Gaza Strip due to stoppage of its services especially sewage treatment due to lack of fuel.

Municipality head Rafiq Mikki said in a TV interview on Wednesday that if no fuel was provided to his municipality in the course of one week it would be forced to stop pumping water from wells to people’s houses.

He said that the municipality had partially shut down sewage pumps and would be forced to stop carrying away garbage for the same reason of lack of fuel.

Mikki said that the municipality, which basically provides services to inhabitants, operates its services depending on special tools and vehicles that need fuel to function.
