UK government gave $268 million to program that does forced sterilizations in India

NEW YORK, May 10, 2012 (C-FAM) – The British government gave $268 million to the government of India for a program that forcibly sterilizes poor women and men, according to the Guardian newspaper. This news comes as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation prepares to co-host a family planning summit with the British government in London this July.

Melinda Gates recently dismissed the link between contraception programs and population control in a speech launching her new initiative. Titled “No Controversy,” her campaign intends to “change the global conversation around family planning” by discounting its association with abortion, coercion and immorality, and focusing on universal access.

Around the same time, India’s supreme court heard evidence of coercive mass sterilizations in filthy conditions.

According to documents filed with the court, men and women are rounded up into makeshift rural camps to be sterilized, many left in pain with little or no care. Some women, sterilized while pregnant, suffered miscarriages. Some were bribed with less than $8 and a sari, others threatened with losing their ration cards. Some died from botched operations.

Uneducated men and women did not discover the true purpose of the operations until too late. In a region targeted by the UK government, a 35-year old wife of a poor laborer, pregnant with twins, bled to death.

Clinics received bonuses for doing more than 30 operations a day. Non-governmental workers were paid for each person they convinced to be operated on. One surgeon working in a school building committed 53 operations in 2 hours with unqualified staff, no running water or means to clean the equipment.

“Obsession” with reaching the United Nations Millennium Development Goals pushed India to institute coercive sterilizations, reported the Global Post in 2010.

“There’s a great hurry to again set targets from above to be followed by everyone. And that’s again creating problems,” said A.R. Nanda, India’s former health secretary.

“When you create an incentive system, it privileges one solution over the other and encourages them to cut corners,” said Abhijit Das, the head of Healthwatch Forum.

“And we’ve had very bad experiences with that in the past.”

Sterilization is the most common method of family planning used by India’s Reproductive and Child Health Program Phase II, begun in 2005 with UK funding.

Reports in 2006, 2007 and 2009 by the Indian government warned of problems with the program, noted The Guardian.  Yet in 2010 the UK’s Department for International Development recommended continued support. One key reason was to address climate change. Reducing the number of humans would lower greenhouse gases. It conceded there are “complex human rights and ethical issues” involved in population control programs.

Despite the warnings, the UK placed no conditions on its funding.

The UK and Gates Foundation summit aims to collect “unprecedented political commitment and resources … to meet the family planning needs of women in the world’s poorest countries by 2020,” stated the Department for International Development, the agency that funded India’s sterilization program.

India’s fertility rate is 2.62.  Pressures to lower fertility and reduce the size of families coincide with a worsening gender imbalance of more boys than girls in the country.

Jon Stewart’s Vagina Manger

Jon Stewart, whose birth name is Jonathan Leibowitz, is a non-religious Jew who said he was subjected to anti-Semitic bullying as a child. He describes himself in high school as “very into Eugene Debs and a bit of a leftist,” but says his political affiliation is “more socialist or independent” than Democratic. Eugene Debs was an American union leader and ran several times for the U.S. presidency as the candidate of the Socialist Party of America.

Nevertheless, Stewart insists he’s not liberal; nor is he a “partisan ideological activist.” He makes $15 million in salary a year; has an estimated net worth of $80 million; owns a duplex penthouse in lower Manhattan’s tony TriBeCa neighborhood, a water front home in the Bay Point area of Sag Harbor, New York and, his most recent purchase, a water front home in Red Bank, New Jersey. What a “socialist” that Jon Stewart is!

On April 16, 2012, on “The Daily Show” – increasingly the source of news for young Americans – Stewart ripped the Fox News Network for giving air to the “war on women” issue. He then ridiculed Fox’s “war on Christmas,” asking, “What can women do to generate the same sense of outrage from Fox as the removal of decorative slightly poisonous holiday plants? Perhaps they could play into the theme?”

At this point, Stewart showed a picture of a naked woman with her legs spread apart with a nativity scene ornament in between.

Imagine if Stewart had done that with an image of Mohammad.

Stewart said, “Maybe women could protect their reproductive organs from unwanted medical intrusions with vagina mangers.”

We heard ad nauseum about Rush Limbaugh’s “slut” remark about the unmarried Georgetown U. student Sandra Fluke who said the federal government taxpayers should pay for her contraceptives.

But did you hear about Stewart’s vagina manger?

No? Why is that?

Did you know that it was the Catholic League who went after Stewart for that blasphemous offensive “vagina manger” image, and insisted that the non-liberal [snark] Stewart apologize or the League would coordinate a boycott of businesses that air commercials on The Daily Show?

Well, Stewart did not apologize.

On May 7, 2012, it was reported that as a result of Catholic League’s campaign, Delta Airlines pulled its ads from The Daily Show.

Delta spokeswoman Leslie Parker said that “We are constantly evaluating our advertising strategy and at this time no longer advertise during The Daily Show,” but denied that the decision had anything to do with “any opinions expressed” by the show.

Yeah, right.

Catholic League’s pugnacious president, Bill Donohue, pledges in a press releaseto continue his campaign, with Kellogg’s as the next target: “All the top management at Kellogg’s will receive a color photo of a naked woman with her legs spread and a nativity scene ornament in between. Let’s see if that jars them. Over 700 photos have been sent to leaders in Battle Creek, Michigan.”

A Kellogg’s representative didn’t immediately comment on whether anyone at Kellogg’s had received the photos. A spokesperson for the Daily Show didn’t respond to an inquiry from BuzzFeed.

Founded in 1973, Catholic League is America’s largest Catholic civil rights organization. The League defends the right of Catholics – lay and clergy alike – to participate in American public life without defamation or discrimination. Motivated by the letter and the spirit of the First Amendment, the Catholic League works to safeguard both the religious freedom rights and the free speech rights of Catholics whenever and wherever they are threatened.

by Pandora Pushkin (Satire)

Editor’s Note: “Is the Holocaust a suitable subject for satire?” I asked myself seriously, before deciding to accept this new article from satirical spoof writer Pandora Pushkin. In view of the fact that Christianity appears to be fair game for blaspheming Jews — Christ sucks (pornographer Al Goldstein) and I hope the Jews DID kill Christ! I’d fucking do it again in a second! (comedienne Sarah Silverman) — I saw no reason why Holocaustianity, the new world religion, should be exempt from criticism or satirical treatment. Provided it’s done with good taste, of course.

“Some events do take place but are not true; others are, although they never occurred.”— Elie Wiesel, World’s Most Famous Holocaust Survivor

Holcaustianity, the world’s newest religion, is now doing its best to replace Christianity in America, Europe and other English-speaking countries. It has been largely successful in its endeavors, having made an impact even on the Vatican where it has persuaded many holy fathers of the Church to ditch Christianity in favor of a  new religion invented at Auschwitz. About time too! We’ve had enough of Christianity and its silly Ten Commandments.

Speaking for myself, I wish to make up my own mind about what is right or wrong. Yessir, I’m not going to take instructions from any killjoy Pope!

Here is Pope Benedict himself, paying his respects to the new Supergod at Auschwitz, disguised as a tripod.

And here, in case you are interested, is the swimming pool at Auschwitz which the Supreme Pontiff visited also on his well-publicized  visit to Poland.

In this hallowed spot the Holy Father may have paused a few brief moments to offer up a prayer for all those millions of martyrs—6 million at the last count—who perished in the furnaces of Auschwitz, but were probably allowed to refresh themselves with a little swim before they died.

This would happen, I should imagine, in two circumstances: (a) If the Nazi camp guard on duty was particularly kind-hearted or in a good mood, which was obviously almost never, since no Nazi camp guard I have ever heard of has ever been  known to be kind-hearted or in a good mood; (b) if the camp was short of Zyklon B  gas, or  if there was a need to economize and save this precious substance for delousing inmates’ clothing—in which case inmates were led to the pool and pushed in, being left to swim around there until they drowned. If they tried to climb out of the pool, no problem!—they were just kicked back into the water by one of those hobnailed jackboots the evil Nazis wore at all times, even in bed. So I am told by an informed source in Tel Aviv.

For more details on the swimming pool at Auschwitz, see this scary article by evil Holocaust denier Robert Faurisson. You can see his blood-covered face here. This is what courageous Jewish activists did to him when Mr Faurisson foolishly refused to admit that 6 million Jews died in the Holocaust.

The Holocaust, according to that other evil Holocaust denier Germar Rudolf—who spent only four years in prison for his shocking thought  crimes, has its own high priests: the Jewish people themselves. These constitute, collectively, the New World Messiah whose name is King Khazar.

King Khazar did not die on the cross. Instead, he fragmented himself into a myriad life forms and lives today in the minds and bodies of his countless devotees, known in the vulgar language of the masses as “Holocaust Survivors.”

These minor deities live all over the world, some in New York, London, Paris and other cosmopolitan centers, but most of them pursue their earthly existence in Tel Aviv. Here they live austere lives of prayer and sacrifice to King Khazar, all their material needs being taken care of by generous checks from Swiss and German banks.

When they are not engaged in killing the Palestinians in a blood sacrifice to King Khazar, they are to be found sitting by their  luxury swimming pools in Judea and Samaria enjoying the afternoon sunshine and the soothing hum of bulldozers demolishing houses in the distance . . . until their lives are suddenly terminated by deadly rockets shot at them by evil Hezbollah or Hamas—terrorist organizations which will soon be operating in New York and Los Angeles, London and Paris, unless and until America in its wisdom decides to exterminate them. So my informed source in Tel Aviv tells me.

Hollocaustianity, as you might expect, has its Devil. Every bit as evil as Christianity’s equivalent, he has replaced Satan as the most feared and hated figure ever to have existed. With a mad glint in his eye, and a frightening toothbrush mustache garnishing his upper lip,  this Demon in human guise  received his incarnation on earth in April 1889 at an inn in Ranshofen called the Gasthof  zum Pommer in the thrice-cursèd anti-Semitic kingdom of Austro-Hungary. He is known today in Vatican circles, where everyone is still forced to speak ecclesiastical Latin, as Adolphus Hitlerus Abominabilis.

Icon of Evil Adolphus Hitlerus Abominabilis
(top figure, not bottom).

Mention his name, dear reader, in hushed terms if you dare. Better still, don’t mention it at all, but leave it to Devil Worshippers such as David Irving and his brood of evil demons to do so.

The High priests of the new world religion are the orthodox Holocaust historians. Praised be their names, for their research has been mighty and marvelous and has unearthed many mindblowing facts: namely, that six million Jews died in gas chambers at Auschwitz, Chelmno, Majdanek, Belzec, Sobibor, Treblinka and elsewhere, on the express orders of  Adolphus Hitlerus Abominabilis and his evil henchmen in human form, known in Vatican circles as Jackbootici Horribiles—in simple English, “the Horrible Jackbooted Ones”. (i.e., Nazis.)

Unlike the Christian martyrs, these latter-day saints were neither crucified nor thrown to the lions in the Circus Maximus. Instead, they were tortured to death in cruel experiments by Josef Mengele (“Dr Death”), buried alive in ditches, burnt alive at the stake, asphyxiated in gas chambers, and finally turned into lampshades.

Typical lampshade? No way! DNA tests reveal that this lampshade was made of genuine human skin, probably one of millions made by evil Nazis and sold them to unsuspecting department stores all over the world. (See here)

The new world religion, Hollocaustianity, also has its temples: these are known as Holocaust Museums. They are being built now in ever increasing quantities thanks to the generosity of taxpayers (Jewish as well as non-Jewish) whose earnings are being earmarked not only for the construction of these grim edifices in honor of King Khazar but for new wars being fought on his behalf in Iraq, Afghanistan and other Islamic countries such as Pakistan.

Here in Afpak, incidentally, even the women and children are so evil that they need to be destroyed by deadly drones from the sky, known in Vatican circles as Arma Ignavi  (“The Coward’s Weapon”). Wedding parties are obliterated. Ambulances speeding to rescue the dying are blown to smithereens. Even mothers scrabbling in the ruins to pull their mangled children from the rubble are blown off the face of the earth. Why? Because they are all terrorists who refuse to worship King Khazar, the Jewish God of War whose worship in America has now become obligatory.

These lethal drone weapons (Arma Ignavi) are operated by courageous American warriors in shirtsleeves (sometimes known as “chickenhawks” but more often as “inglourious basterds”) who sit in front of computer screens in distant America playing an exciting new war game known as “Collateral Damage”.

Yea, the New World  Religion also hath its “Day of Remembrance” (27 January), on which day the world is solemnly besought to Remember The Six Million Who Died. It has its saints and its martyrs: the victims who die and the victims who survive and today receive the holy eucharist—the Bread of Life—known as “Holocaust reparations”.

It has its prophets too: noble eyewitnesses such Elie Wiezel and Binjamin Wilkomirski, both  known and honored for their unswerving devotion to the Truth.

It has its patron saint, Anne Frank, known in Vatican circles as Puella Pulcher Ballpointica, the Beautiful Girl with the Ballpoint Pen.

PUELLA PULCHER BALLPOINTICA, the “Beautiful Girl with the Ballpoint Pen,” the only saint in history to travel into the future to borrow a ballpoint pen and then relocate back to the past in order to complete her famous manuscript, The Diary of Anne Frank.

Hollocaustianity has its pilgrims, its publishing houses, its clergy, its laity. It even has its Inquisition in sixteen countries, where denial of its sacred tenets are serious crimes resulting in imprisonment: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, and Switzerland.

A shocking email appeared in my inbox this morning which almost made my eyes pop from their sockets. It contained this appalling quotation from evil Holocaust Denier Germar Rudolf, actually arguing that Israel has exploited the Holocaust to carry out a genocidal program of its own against the Palestinians. Look at his picture on the left. Who would have thought this pretty little boy (age 8 in the picture) would grow up one day to become such an evil monster of Thought Crime?

“This new religion,” he raves, “serves many Jews in general and the Apartheid State of Israel in particular as a sword and shield in their interactions with gentiles and foreign nations. To prevent a new “Holocaust,” Israel is allowed to commit any cruelty, wage any war, violate any international law it likes. They get away with (almost) anything. But this new superstition also serves many other nations as a bogeyman to make their own populations accept wars. First they accuse a foreign leader of a Holocaust – committed or planned – then they start the war. It works shockingly well.” (To verify this appalling quote, click HERE).

Here is the evil Thought Criminal again, age 39, doing his best to look charming and acceptably human. He fails!  Note the Satanic smile and the white-hot glow of hellfire in his evil eyes. This monster of Historical Distortionism has recently been interviewed by the equally insane Dr David Duke on the Jeff Rense Radio satellite network that goes all over the world. If you want to hear these fiends in human form discuss the new world religion, Holocaustianity, this is your chance.

Don’t miss this incredibly EVIL SHOW (55 mins.) which breaks new ground in THOUGHT CRIME!

Zionist Islamophobia: Racist Christians, Zionist Jews to unite against Islam?

Op-ed: Will Jews, Christians finally join forces in battle against genocidal Islamic hatred?

Last Wednesday in Rome, Jewish leaders for the first time rallied alongside Christians in a candlelit vigil to denounce the attacks in the Middle East and Africa. It was “interfaith” or “ecumenical” dialogue at its best. Forget the theological questions, which remain unsolvable. There is an urgent mutual solidarity about the single most defining issue of our time: religious freedom. The Coliseum, where thousands upon thousands of “Judaeis” have been massacred by the Roman emperors, became for one night an arena for alliance between Christians and Jews against “odium fidei,” or religious hatred.

May 17th: 24 hours of hunger in solidarity

with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails

Coming Thursday, May 17, will mark a month to the hunger strike, with over 2,000 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails participating in it. As Israel refuses to accept the prisoners’ demands for their basic rights, including humane treatment, many of them face immediate risk of death as the world watches over in silence.

The prisoners have decided to live in dignity or starve to death in their isolation cells, and a global mobilization is urgently needed to break the deafening silence! A month into the hunger strike, join a

More than two weeks ago, some 2,000 Palestinian prisoners have launched an open-ended hunger strike and their life is in danger. Their demands are simple and the strike’s slogan, echoing through the prison walls, is just as plain- freedom or death. The lives of all prisoners on strike are currently under danger, but among them is a smaller group, which has been striking for a longer period and whose lives are under immediate threat.

Thaer Halahleh and Bilal Diab have not eaten for more than 70 days – since the 29th of February. Israeli courts have rejected their appeals and refused to free them from administrative detention where they remain without charge or trial, subject to secret evidence and secret allegations. They are in critical condition.

Hassan Safadi has been refusing food since the 2nd of March, Omar Abu Shalal, 54, since the 4th of March, Mahmoud Sarsak, the only Gazan to have been incarcerated under Israel’s Illegal Combatants Law, since the 24th of March, Mohammed al-Taj, 40, also since the 24th of March and Ja’afar Ezzadeen, 41, since the 27th of march.

The Prisoners’ key demands include:

  • Ending the policy of solitary confinement and isolation;
  • End to the use of administrative detentions;
  • The restoration of visitation rights to families of prisoners from the Gaza Strip, a right that has been denied to all families for more than 6 years;
  • Canceling ‘Shalit’ law, which restricts prisoners’ access to educational materials as punitive measure. The law remains intact despite a prisoner swap deal last October.
  • Ending systematic humiliation, including arbitrary strip searches, nightly raids and collective punishment.

Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike have been hit hard with retaliation from Israel Prison Services, including beatingstransferring from one prison to anotherconfiscation of salt (anact that could have severe health consequences for hunger strikers)denial of family andlawyer visits, and isolation and solitary confinement of hunger strikers.

In response, Human Rights Watch issued a statement chiding Israel’s over its administrative detention policy; it said, “It shouldn’t take the self-starvation of Palestinian prisoners for Israel to realize it is violating their due process rights.” Amnesty International also issued a call forurgent action from individuals around the world to contact Israeli authorities about Bilal Diaband Thaer Halahleh.

Emphasizing imprisonment as a critical component of Israel’s system of occupation, colonialism and apartheid practiced against the Palestinian people, Palestinian civil society and human rights organizations have called for intensifying the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign to target corporations profiting directly from the Israeli prison system. In particular, we call for action to be taken to hold to account G4S, the world’s largest international security corporation, which helps to maintain and profit from Israel’sprison system, for its complicity with Israeli violations of international law.

A Mother’s Day Manifesto and about Shimon Peres

by Eileen Fleming

Not often is the power of ONE able to make a damn bit of a difference in our Orwellian World, but a few mothers who did, were Anna Jarvis, an Appalachian homemaker, who organized a day to raise awareness of poor health conditions in her community. Fifteen years later, Julia Ward Howe, a Boston poet, pacifist, suffragist, and author of the lyrics to the “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” organized a day encouraging mothers to rally for peace.

As mothers bear the loss of human life more acutely than anyone else, in 1870, Julia Ward Howe wrote the first Mother’s Day Proclamation, from which I excerpt:

Arise then…women of this day!
Arise, all women who have hearts!
Whether your baptism be of water or of tears!
From the voice of a devastated Earth a voice goes up with
Our own. It says: Disarm! Disarm!
The sword of murder is not the balance of justice.
Blood does not wipe our dishonor; nor violence indicate possession. At the summons of war let women now leave all that may be left of home for a great and earnest day of counsel.
Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.
Let them solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means
Whereby the great human family can live in peace;
Each bearing after his own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar;
But of God.

Today, The Institute for Research Middle Eastern Policy (IRmep) a Washington-based nonprofit organization that studies US-Middle East policy formulation also provides citizens access to initiatives regarding the most harmful forces driving policy formulation in the US political process.

Spokesman for IRmep is author, Grant S. Smith who offers us this Mother’s Day opportunity to speak Truth to Power regarding a Master of War.

With only 250 signatories the following petition will “become publicly visible on the White House website. That alone would be something of an accomplishment,” Smith explained in an email and his Petition Reads:

We petition the Obama administration to:

Do not award a Presidential Medal of Freedom to Israeli President Shimon Peres, a nuclear proliferator.

President Obama has announced he will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom of Israeli President Shimon Peres.

According to the book “Israel and the Bomb” by Avner Cohen, Peres played a key role in the Israeli nuclear weapons program.

According to declassified documents published by scholar Sasha Polakow-Suransky in 2010, Peres even offered to sell nuclear-tipped Jericho missiles to Apartheid South Africa.

According to the book “Divert” part of the clandestine Israel nuclear program even involved stealing US government-owned nuclear material from the NUMEC plant in Pennsylvania. This occurred while Peres was in charge.

Giving a Presidential Medal of Freedom to Peres is tantamount to rewarding the only nuclear proliferator in the Middle East.

Within days of the announcement for 2009’s Nobel Peace Prize, Israeli Nuclear Whistle Blower, Mordechai Vanunu declined the honor in a letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee in Oslo:

“I am asking the committee to remove my name from the nominations…I cannot be part of a list of laureates that includes Simon Peres…Peres established and developed the atomic weapon program in Dimona in Israel…Peres was the man who ordered [my] kidnapping…he continues to oppose my freedom and release…WHAT I WANT IS FREEDOM AND ONLY FREEDOM….FREEDOM AND ONLY FREEDOM I NEED NOW.”

Vanunu is still waiting for his right to leave Israel and his next appeal seeking to revoke his citizenship is scheduled for July:

In the 21st century, patriarchal ‘civilization’ persists in the insanity of violence for violence and this mother contends that Caesar today is the Government Industrial Military Security/Surveillance Complex, which would collapse if enough of we the people rose up and demanded our ‘leaders’ change course from state sponsored violence to dialoguing with the ‘enemy’ and uphold our obligations as a Member State of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which includes holding all other Member States to it-and that also includes Israel:

We the people of America who pay taxes are culpable for most all of the world’s manufacturing, use of, and exporting of weapons of all degrees of destruction-which terrorize every innocent caught in the crossfire.

In 1999, the UN dedicated the first decade of the 21st century to “Create a Culture of Nonviolence for All Children of The World” but I did not learn of it until December 2005, when I attended Holy Land Trust’s Celebrating Nonviolent Solidarity Conference in the Little Town of Bethlehem: which is Occupied Territory!

I also learned that America abstained from voting on this UN initiative and is on the record in the UN as stating: “We cannot support this initiative as it will make it harder for us to wage war.”

The hearts and minds that require the most transformation are the ones that hold the most political power; but power never gives any away without a fierce battle!

Also during that 2005 conference in the little town of Bethlehem, Jeff Halper, American Israeli, Coordinator and Co-founder of Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, about how we need to look at life as if it were a play and then claim a part; for when enough ‘actors’ [activists] pursue justice and remain nonviolent, ‘Caesar’ will be forced to acquiesce in order to maintain power.

Anglican Reverend Naim Ateek, a Palestinian refugee and founder of SABEEL Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center, spoke about how the use of state sponsored violence corrupts the true message of Christ.

Ateek explained how Christ’s teachings and life reflected the revolutionary concept of nonviolent action and how thousands of years of not reflecting upon the fact that evil can be opposed without being mirrored, and the cycle of a ‘tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye’, never has, never will, never can bring true peace or security.

Christ taught that one must forgive and love ones enemies and one must pray for those who persecute and hate them. In a nutshell, that is what being a Christian is truly about.

Before the reign of Emperor Constantine, all the early Church Fathers taught that Christians should not serve in the army but instead willingly suffer rather than inflict harm on any other human being. St. Paul taught that the only way to resist evil is with good. Clement, Tertillian, Polycarp and every other early Church Father taught that violence contradicts Christianity.

In 313 Constantine sought to unite his empire and by legitimizing Christianity-although he waited until on his deathbed to be baptized- many have said that was when the soul left the church.

Within 100 years after Constantine, the Empire required that all soldiers in the army must be baptized as Christians and thus, the decline of Christianity began.

Augustine was the first Church Father to speak about the concept of a Just War. The Church relaxed the standards Jesus set as they negated the true teaching of Christ to justify war and thus; wrong became right, for a true Christian will always be nonviolent.

“The God of war, violence, oppression and terror must be rejected. Authentic Christianity is nonviolent and is all about peace, justice and liberation.” -Rev. Naim Ateek.

Candidate George W. Bush once claimed his favorite philosopher was Jesus, but President Bush defied the philosophy, ethics, morals and teaching of Jesus who was most explicit that one must forgive to be forgiven, to pray and love one’s enemies; not bomb, torture or occupy them!

The problem is not with Christianity, but that too few, who claim to be Christian, have actually done what Christ taught.

Christians claim to comprehend that God is Love, but “Love is not the starving of whole populations. Love is not the bombardment of open cities. Love is not killing. Our manifesto is the Sermon on the Mount, which means that we will try to be peacemakers.” -Dorothy Day
Also during Holy Land Trusts Celebrating Nonviolence Conference, Dr. Mohamed Abu-Nimer from the Salam Institute of Peace and Justice stated:

“All the Abrahamic traditions are based in nonviolence, it is our lenses that determine whether we see it. Like Christianity the concept of a Just War took root and developed after lots of discussions dealing with how to deal with believers and nonbelievers.

“The first twelve years Mohamed spent in Mecca he practiced nonviolent resistance. He was persecuted but always prayed: ‘God forgive them, they do not know what they are doing.’

“Mohamed taught against the killing of innocents, the desecration of the environment and for the humane treatment and respect towards one’s enemies. Suicide bombings are not justified and those who try to justify it negate the early principals and teachings regarding nonviolence, the pursuit of justice, doing good, universality and human dignity, equality, that all life is sacred, to be forgiving and be a peace maker.”

As with Christianity; the ideals have yet to transform the hearts and minds of many who claim to be adherents of the faith.

In explaining this gap Dr. Abu-Nimer continued, “We are quick to blame the external factors such as colonialism, war, humiliation, Zionism and economic dependency. But what we lack is looking internally for we Muslims love authority, bureaucracy, loyalty and our core government system is based on nepotism not ability. There is corruption, co-optation of religious leaders, the patriarchal structure and hierarchy, the authoritarian control system, and the tribal mentality.

“We are not raised in our culture to question authority and if you engage in nonviolence you must resist authority. Our first step is to challenge our own presumptions…We have 5,000 sayings attributed to Mohamed and 700 authentically traced. The politicalization of his teachings began the corruption of his teachings.

“Every Muslim child is exposed to positive values as well as interpretations that are narrow and exclusive. An example is: ‘We are the best nation that God sent to people.’ If we truly follow the ideals of Islam, we are, but reality is that the ideals have been corrupted by wrong actions.

“Many interpret the saying: ‘Support your brother if he is just, right or wrong’ to mean you must be loyal regardless of his actions and don’t ask questions. The true way to support one’s brother [or tribe] is to point out the error of his [their] ways; to explain to him why he is wrong, to correct but not fight.”

St. Paul expressed the same sentiment when he warned: “Do not judge the nonbeliever, but provoke one another to good works.”

Dr. Abu-Nimer concluded, “Islam was revolutionary at its time but it went backwards. There is no lack of values; the lack is in interpretation…Islam must reclaim what Mohamed put down. It is a myth to believe that the conflict between Israel Palestine can be fixed by secular methods.”
Gandhi spoke about how personal nonviolence is not much use to society until one weds society to political action.

Please do something political and public this year in honor of the true essence of Mother’s Day-sign Smith’s petition

This mother thanks you and offers further readings on topic:

Turkey To Request NATO Military Intervention In Syria: Prime Minister

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Ankara is ready to ask NATO for a military intervention in Syria, Press TV reports.

“I am ready to ask NATO for a military intervention in Syria,” Erdogan was quoted as saying on Monday.

The Turkish premier made the remarks in an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, prior to his trip to Italy. He met with Slovenian President Danilo Turk in Ljubljana on Monday.

Erdogan also stated that the turmoil in Syria has to be brought to an end with the cooperation of international powers.

“We have been very patient with Syria issue so far,” he claimed.

The Monday remarks by the Turkish prime minister came as Syria held the first parliamentary elections under a new constitution approved by an overwhelming support of the people in a February referendum.

On May 6, Erdogan also expressed Turkey’s support for the Syrians seeking refuge in Turkey during a meeting of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep near the Syrian border.

Over the past few months, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar expressed support for providing weaponry to the armed groups fighting against the Syrian government.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu claimed on March 3 that the “international community’s message might be conveyed to the Syrian administration via certain methods including the arming of the Syrian National Council (SNC).”

On April 8, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan had not “submitted written guarantees from the governments of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey on stopping their funding to terrorist groups.”

Carnage & Crisis Aversion in the Sudan

by Nile Bowie

Following the United Nations’ recent approval of Resolution 2046 threatening the nations of Sudan and South Sudan with sanctions [1], the success of international attempts at conflict aversion in the region appear to be in question. Hostilities between the two nations have climaxed since South Sudanese forces captured the region of Heglig, an oil-producing site 70 kilometers into Sudanese territory [2]. South Sudanese forces have also maintained a presence in the long disputed border region of Abyei in Southern Kordofan, where Juba has recently vowed to withdraw its personnel from [3]. Although Khartoum has agreed to comply with the United Nations resolution, it has vowed to continue military operations against South Sudan’s troops as long as they remain within the territory of Sudan, “Sudan has declared its commitment to a United Nations resolution calling for an end to military operations, but the other side’s troops still remain on our territory; they have occupied two districts and have not stopped their hostile actions” [4].

As Juba denies Khartoum’s claims of occupying Sudanese territory, South Sudan’s newly released official map includes the Heglig region and six areas that are “contested and occupied” by Khartoum [5]. Amid the escalating regional tension, China has recently offered South Sudan an $8 billion development package set to allocate funds for road construction, hydropower, infrastructure and agricultural projects following South Sudanese President Salva Kiir’s visit to Beijing [6]. China has traditionally been a key partner to the government in Khartoum, but has steadily increased its influence in South Sudan since its independence in 2011, primarily through investments via state-owned Chinese oil companies China National Petroleum and Sinopec. As inflation rates in Sudan reportedly rise to 21% following increased military expenditure since clashes erupted with Juba in late March 2012 [7], China’s extensive economic engagement in the region offers the leverage needed to potentially play the role of a mediator in the Sudanese conflict.

The emergence of South Sudan as an independent state came at a heavy price for Khartoum, as an estimated 85% of the country’s oil production came under Juba’s control. Although South Sudan holds a majority of oil reserves, Juba has relied on the Greater Nile Oil Pipeline for its oil exports, a pipeline operated by the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) extending to Port Sudan on the Red Sea via Khartoum [8]. Under a barrage of economic sanctions, Khartoum sought to implement oil transit fees for the use of the Greater Nile Oil Pipeline, by charging Juba around $36 per barrel; Juba holds over $11 billion in oil transit debt and has refused the figures proposed by Khartoum, prompting Juba to suspend its oil production [9]. Juba has accused its northern neighbor of launching air strikes on its territories, while both sides also accuse each other of backing rebel militia, claims that Khartoum has denied [10]. Following the fiery rhetoric espoused by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir describing Juba’s ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement as “insects,” Bashir now concedes, “We look with wisdom and foresight to well-established relations between us and the people of South Sudan” [11].

As a climate of uncertainty persists beneath irresponsibly bellicose exchanges, the implementation of a campaign to unseat Omar al-Bashir and bring down the government in Khartoum has long been underway. A recent Op-Ed published in The New York Times by Dr. Gérard Prunier entitled “In Sudan, Give War a Chance” reflects a predominately Western political school of thought which favors the prospect of full scale war to bring about regime change in Sudan. Prunier laments, “The international community has called for a cease-fire and peace talks, but the return of violence is not necessarily a bad thing,” before concluding “an all-out civil war in Sudan may be the best way to permanently oust Mr. Bashir and minimize casualties” [12]. Sudan’s Omar al-Bashir is the first sitting head of state to be charged with genocide by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity conducted in Sudan’s western Darfur region; ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo accuses Bashir of keeping millions of refugees in an environment resembling a “gigantic Auschwitz” [13].

Violence and infighting in Sudan has traditionally been a product of tension along ethnic lines, more so than religious differences. Although the modern Sudanese state has been divided along ethno-religious lines with the religiously Islamic and ethnically Arab government in Khartoum split from the ethnically African and religiously Christian government in Juba, tribal minorities such as the ethnically African and religiously Islamic Fur and Zaghawa groups in Sudan’s western Darfur region have long demanded reparations for the marginalization they’ve experienced from Khartoum [14]. In a recent report issued by Amnesty International entitled “Sudan: No End to Violence in Darfur,” the organization attributes China, former Soviet Union countries and Belarus for selling arms to the Government of Sudan. Amnesty International’s report omits any mention of Israel, who has reportedly provided heavy military logistical support to the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), Darfur’s most powerful armed rebel group [15].

Although the United Nations does not recognize the conduct of the Sudanese government in Darfur as “genocide” [16], mass media campaigns publicizing the alleged violence in Sudan have been embraced by celebrity personalities such as George Clooney. TIME magazine warns of the increased prospects for genocide in South Kordofan’s Nuba Mountains region, as rebels affiliated with South Sudan’s ex-rebel militia, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) take up arms against Khartoum once again [17]. Clooney has recently partnered with John Prendergast of The Enough Project to produce a promotional video depicting ethnic Nuba villagers displaying English language placards calling for the establishment of a “No-Fly Zone” and the prosecution of Omar al-Bashir by the International Criminal Court [18]. The Enough Project was co-founded by US State Department Distinguished Service Award recipient John Prendergast and launched in 2007 under the Center for American Progress [19], an organization sponsored by billionaire investor George Soros and Peter Lewis of Progressive, a Fortune 500 insurance company, among others [20]. John Podesta, who heads the Podesta Group, a Washington lobbying firm representing the interests of weapon-manufacturers Lockheed Martin and oil conglomerates such as British Petroleum [21], also chairs the Center for American Progress [22].

In 2006, the Sudanese government barred 20,000 UN troops from running peacekeeping operations in Darfur, as then-Presidential Advisor Mustafa Osman Ismail argued that the UN mandate’s goal was the implementation of “regime change” in Khartoum [23]. The sources of weaponry and covert assistance received by rebel groups in Sudan are rarely a subject of speculation among religious and political organizations who have long supported the international campaign to pressure Sudan. In 2007, the American Jewish World Service and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum launched a “Save Darfur” coalition, which gained the support of adherents to intervention in Iraq, such as right-wing evangelical Christian groups and major organizational affiliates of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) [24]. According to The Jerusalem Post, the Save Darfur coalition launched a high-profile advertising campaign that included full-page newspaper ads, television spots and billboards calling for the imposition of a no-fly zone over Darfur with financial assistance the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan, United Jewish Communities, UJA-Federation of New York and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs [25].

While the blame for violence in Sudan is laid squarely on Khartoum’s shoulders, Israeli-led foreign elements have contributed to the training, financing, and arming of rebel militias and forces opposed to the Sudanese government within Sudan. Since 1969, Israel has reportedly trained recruits, shipped weapons, and offered support to South Sudanese SPLA rebels [26]. Prior to South Sudan’s independence, Israel relied primarily on a flight route to Entebbe, Uganda to supply SPLA with weapons [27], however Tel Aviv now transfers missiles, military equipment, and even mercenaries to Juba quite openly [28]. As Israel covertly operates in East Africa immune from international criticism following their bombing of Sudanese convoys in 2009 [29], the influence of Israeli think tanks such as The Institute for Advanced Strategic and Political Studies (IASPS) toward the creation of AFRICOM, the US Africa Command, remains a significant indication of the foreign policy directives being taken by Tel Aviv and Washington in Africa [30].

The Sudan exists as sub-Saharan Africa’s third largest oil producer with over 6.6 billion barrels of proven oil reserves [31]; an estimated 85% of those reserves have been ordained to Juba, in the Republic of South Sudan [32]. As China exists as Sudan’s largest trading partner by purchasing 40% of Sudan’s oil with the excess majority largely designated to Asian markets [33], reordering and monopolizing Sudan’s vast oil fields and mineral wealth is the capital incentive behind the unwavering support for the secession of South Sudan shown by US, EU, and Israeli officials. Members of the Sudanese opposition and various rebel separatist groups often visit Tel Aviv, Sudan’s main SPLA opposition even opened an office in Israel to promote its “policies and vision” in the region [34]. In reflection of Israel’s active support for the Southern opposition, South Sudanese citizens were seen waving Israeli flags during their Independence celebrations in July 2011 [35]. For the likely guarantee of support, the South Sudanese government in Juba applied for IMF membership in April 2011 before it had even officially gained independence from Sudan [36].

As Israel and Washington offer their support to the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) in Darfur and various rebel militias opposed to the Sudanese government, China’s interests in the region come under direct attack from these very rebel groups, most prominently in JEM’s October 2007 attack on the Greater Nile Petroleum Company in Defra, Kordofan [37]. The World Bank has recently warned that South Sudan may collapse by its two-year anniversary, due to the ramifications of halting production of at least 75% of the regional oil in frustration with Khartoum’s claims on oil-transit debt and revenue [38]. Apparently, authorities in Juba are either unprepared politically for independence or lacking the appropriate guidance to effectively manage its internal affairs. In a recent meeting between Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping and Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Ahmed Karti, China urged the warring neighbors to settle their differences and negotiate [39].

As China would prefer to align with its traditional approach of non-interventionist diplomacy, Beijing has an opportunity to exploit its influence in the region to not only further its own interests, but to defer criticism from parties loyal to Washington who credit China with sponsoring bloodshed through its business interests [40] and political positions [41]. By pursuing the role of a mediator, China can preserve its interests by overseeing negotiations on trade regulations, citizens rights, demarcation and territory status between the neighboring Sudans’. As Juba depends on oil exports for 98% of its income [42], it must negotiate with Khartoum to settle its debts and agree on a mutual per-barrel fee for its use of the Greater Nile Oil Pipeline, as construction of a new pipeline from oil fields in South Sudan to a theoretical end point at the Kenyan port of Mombasa would take years to construct. While the current US Vice President Joseph Biden once called on the US to exert military force against Sudan [43], it remains crucial for the leaders of both Sudanese nation states to come to an agreement regarding the status of the Heglig region and other disputed areas claimed by both sides, lest peacekeeping forces internationally administer these contested zones.

Any attempts at imposing an arms embargo throughout the Sudan would be entirely disregarded by both sides, which are already adequately armed. While attempts to rally public support behind Western intervention in Sudan rely on emphasizing the human rights violations of Khartoum, claims of 6,000 people being slaughtered by Gaddafi used to justify NATO intervention in Libya remain unverified [44]. Given the distinct ethno-religious differences of South Sudanese society and long history of striving for autonomy, their existence as a nation state is warranted. It is irresponsible to deny both Khartoum’s unwarranted and brutal treatment of civilians within its territory and the US-Israeli policy of inflaming national and regional antagonisms in Sudan by arming rebel militias, to the benefit of corporations seeking to control and develop oil fields and mineral deposits.

While the allied powers in Washington and Tel Aviv would prefer to advocate aggressive policy to ensure against the survival of the regime in Khartoum, the institutional influence of Russia and China in the UNSC provides an opportunity for emerging powers to exert an alternative model of non-aggressive crisis aversion. China may thinly support future economic sanctions on the Sudans in hesitation to involve itself in the domestic issues of other nations, however Beijing could best exercise its influence by urging Khartoum to meet with tribal leaders to guarantee a ceasefire and develop a true federal system that would allow for local autonomy. As the Sudanese leadership in Khartoum projects itself as an Islamic nation, it should recall the final great address of the Islamic Prophet at Mount Arafat, who called for the rejection of social distinctions based on ethnicity and color.

GLOBAL WARFARE: The Worldwide Deployment of NATO’s Global Expeditionary Force

by Rick Rozoff

In the past seventeen years millions of troops from approximately 60 nations have served under NATO command in wars and post-war zones in several countries outside of the military bloc’s territory.

The NATO-led Stabilization Force in Bosnia had 60,000 troops in 1995, the Kosovo Force 50,000 in 1999, the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan 140,000 at peak strength and smaller detachments have served with Operation Unified Protector in Libya, Operation Allied Harmony in Macedonia, Operation Active Endeavor in the Mediterranean Sea and Operation Ocean Shield in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean.

With rotations, the number of troops serving under the alliance’s command in Southeastern Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East is likely in the millions. In 2010 the American commander of the Transit Center at Manas in Kyrgyzstan said that 55,000 NATO troops had been airlifted through that base to Afghanistan in May of that year, an annual rate of two-thirds of a million at a time when an estimated 140,000 of 152,000 foreign troops in Afghanistan were serving under NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

NATO forces have also been stationed in Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan over the past decade.

Alliance naval forces conducted a six-month blockade of Libya last year and have participated in Active Endeavor since 2011 and in Ocean Shield (and its predecessor, Operation Allied Protector) since 2009.

Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 and Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 have participated in NATO operations and war games throughout the Mediterranean, have circumnavigated the African continent, sailed down the Atlantic coast of Canada and the U.S. and into the Caribbean Sea, held exercises in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Guinea, participated in NATO drills in the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea, and planned to cross the strategic Strait of Malacca to the South China Sea in 2009.

NATO has had from 1995 to the present day the opportunity to build an integrated international military force for ground, naval and air operations in current and future operations.

Last week NATO’s top military commander (Supreme Allied Commander Europe), U.S. Admiral James Stavridis, said the bloc has “140,000 troops around the world” engaged in ongoing operations in South and Central Asia, the Balkans, off the Horn of Africa and, residually, in North Africa.

Stavridis’ second-in-command at his other post, as chief of United States European Command – EUCOM’s deputy commander Navy Vice Admiral Charles Martoglio – stated the following to the Pentagon’s news agency on May 4:

“We have been alongside NATO, or NATO has been alongside us, for 10 years in Afghanistan and Iraq, We have a combat edge that has been honed by 10 years of working together in very challenging circumstances. ”

Although not a formal NATO operation, the war and occupation in Iraq received assistance from the alliance beforehand – deployment of Patriot interceptor missiles and AWACS surveillance aircraft to Turkey – and afterward, with NATO supporting the Multi-National Force – Iraq and operations in the Polish-led South Central zone and running the NATO Training Mission-Iraq. The first commander of the latter was current Central Intelligence Agency director and former ISAF commander David Petraeus.

Three-quarters of current NATO members states supplied troops for the Iraq war, all except for Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg and Turkey, which in most instances compensated by increasing their troop commitments to NATO in Afghanistan. Over a dozen NATO partnership program nations also sent troops to Iraq.

EUCOM’s deputy commander elaborated on his above-cited comments in stating:

“So as we come out of Iraq and Afghanistan, how do we sustain that combat edge over time, particularly when everybody’s budgets are being significantly constrained? Our job here [in Europe] is to sustain the strategic partnership, the NATO alliance – that most successful coalition in history – across these difficult financial times.”

Navy Rear Admiral Mark Montgomery, EUCOM’s deputy commander for plans, policy and strategy, spoke in a similar vein:

“The question is how do we preserve all the investment that’s been made over the last eight to 10 years – an investment of not just money, but blood and sweat, working together in both Iraq and Afghanistan?”

Admiral Martoglio placed emphasis of continuing exercises and other training with nations that have provided troops for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to consolidate integration and operational cohesiveness for future military actions. According to American Forces Press Service, he particularly stressed the need “to take new strategic partnerships forged with Eastern European nations to the next level, and to maintain other ISAF contributors’ high-end capabilities. ”

In his own words, “We have to look toward ensuring interoperability of those forces and routinely training together so that if we have to conduct high-end operations, we have the ability to work together from a technical perspective, and the skills to work together from a training perspective.”

For high-end operations read wars.

As the U.S. moves into new bases in the Asia-Pacific region and deploys more warships and warplanes to the Middle East, it can count on NATO to police Europe, the Mediterranean – North Africa and the western Middle East – the Horn of Africa and the South Caucasus on its behalf.

NATO has secured a mobile, integrated, combat-tested global expeditionary force for the West.

NATO’s Secret Army

by Daniel Ganser and Alexander Artamonov

Interview with Daniel Ganser

NATO’s secret army existed on the territory of Western Europe until the beginning of the 90s. And maybe it is still functioning today. It was called Gladio, which means sword in Latin. One of its emblems is a salamander, which marks its belonging to the secret services syndicate.

In order to understand what this movement really represented or, possibly, is still representing, we consulted the well-known Swiss historian Daniel Ganser, who has published a book about the secret army.

Mr. Ganser, you are a historian, specializing in modern history and international relations since 1945. You lecture at Basel University and you are the author of numerous works which caused a sensation all over the world. I would like to speak to you about your most well-known book “NATO’s Secret Army”.

NATO’s Secret Army is a poorly studied phenomenon. Even my colleagues used to say to me: “But NATO has never had any secret army!” The whole world thought that such a thing did not exist. And then, in 1990, Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti confirmed that all the European NATO countries had secret armies. Their aim was to resist a Soviet invasion. But during the Cold War period nothing of the kind happened, as you know. Therefore, people thought that these armies were useless, but it was not so. They were used in order to manipulate the political climate in many European countries – France, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Austria, Spain, Portugal, and Finland. It was a large-scale phenomenon all right.

Your book “NATO’s Secret Army” inspired film director Emmanuel Amaro on the creation of an excellent documentary lasting 52 minutes. Your book has to do with both Russia and Western Europe. Has your book been published in Russian yet?

No, not yet! But in two weeks I am presenting the Russian version of my book in Moscow.

We received evidence that the secret army had actually existed, at least until the beginning of the 90s. And still there is no reason to believe it was dismissed.

Can you add some important details to the above-mentioned?

Historians say that in fact this army conducted acts of terror, aimed at changing the political course of one or another country, consistently dissociating it from the USSR and Eastern Europe. So, on August 2, 1980, a bomb exploded in the waiting room of a railway station in Bologna, which took the lives of 85 people. 200 people received injuries of varying severity.

At first, the Italian police attributed this terrorist act to the Red Brigades, but ultimately Gladio was pronounced guilty. A month and a half later, during Oktoberfest in Munich, there was another act of terror. Colonel Klaus Fishner, a former employee of the counter-intelligenc e service of Stasi, said: “The task was to create tension in NATO countries and to suppress any political left-wing deviation.” As we can see, that was the mission, aimed at justifying the existence of the secret army.

German historian Erich Schmidt-Eenboom affirms that in Germany a considerable part of the secret army, about 25%, was recruited from former members of the SS.

The general public is well-acquainted with the film “The Bourne Identity.” Only people do not know that the mysterious organization Dread Stone that stood behind the anonymous American political killers and was housed in Langley, has a real terrible prototype. And this is Gladio.
