Israel has to change the way it views Palestinian prisoners

Haaretz – Editorial – Palestinian society, like every society waging a struggle for national liberation, feels a special responsibility toward those of its sons and daughters who have sacrificed their lives or their freedom for the collective. Palestinians consider the people we call “terrorists” or “murderers” as “freedom fighters” and “national heroes.” In many cases, as in South Africa and Northern Ireland, it was prisoner leaders who effected reconciliation.-rh

Two wrongs do not make a right

Neve Gordon – Aljazeera – But if there is any hope for this region, the recognition must be reciprocal. The Palestinians, who have no doubt been wronged, must concede, as the late Edward Said urged them to do, that two wrongs do not make a right. Only once there is mutual recognition of the two historical narratives will an opportunity for reconciliation truly emerge.-rh

Strike deal `does not end administrative detention`

Ma`an News Agency – Prisoners rights group Addameer said after the hunger strike deal it is “concerned that these provisions of the agreement will not explicitly solve Israel’s lenient and problematic application of administrative detention, which as it stands is in stark violation of international law.”-rh

Annexing Israel

Zvi Bar`el – Haaretz – First the settlers annexed the slogan “appropriate Zionist response” to means that for every terror attack and every person killed in one, a new settlement or neighborhood should be built. Not in the State of Israel, since Israel is already a foreign, Tel Avivan state that does not know what genuine Zionism is. The “Zionist response” must be provided in the only Zionist state, the state of the settlers.-rh

Demonizing the Nakba

Larry Derfner – +972 – The truth, rather, is that by demonizing Nakba Day, the winners of the War of Independence are telling the losers that they’re not even allowed to cry, not in public, anyway.-rh

The Children of Palestine

Julie Holm – MIFTAH – Palestinian children grow up in a very politicized reality; they are affected by the occupation even before they are born. They grow up in a world of checkpoints and walls, a world where every family has had a family member who is or was in prison and where the only tool these prisoners have to get fair treatment is their empty stomachs.-rh

Thaer Halahleh’s letter to his daughter: “My Beloved Lamar…Forgive me”

Linah Alsaafin – The Electronic Intifada – “Lamar my love: I know that you are not to be blamed and that you don’t yet understand why your father is going through this battle of hunger strike for the 75th day, but when you grow up you will understand that the battle of freedom is the battle of going back to you, so that I can never be taken away from you again or to be deprived of your smile or seeing you, so that the occupier will never kidnap me again from you.”-rh

Progress for Prisoners’ Movement : Palestinian Prisoners’ Mass Hunger Strike Concludes After Agreement is Reached

Addameer – The demands raised in the collective hunger strike, which was launched on 17 April, included an end to the IPS’ abusive use of isolation for “security” reasons, which currently affects 19 prisoners, some of whom have spent 10 years in isolation, and a repeal of a series of punitive measures taken against Palestinian prisoners following the capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, including the denial of family visits for all Gaza prisoners since 2007 and denial of access to university education since June 2011.-rh

Who is delegitimizing Israel?

Paul Woodward – War in Context – Anyone who is really afraid of the delegitimization of Israel should consider that Israel may face no greater threat than the one posed by its own defenders.-rh

Israel’s popularity sinks even lower in 2012, new BBC global survey confirms

Ali Abunimah – The Electronic Intifada – For those who held negative views of Israel influence in the world, the foreign policy of the Israeli State is by some distance the main reason explaining their negative rating (45%).-rh

Racist Zio-Nazi Rabbi Yosef: Treating gentiles violates Sabbath

Racist Zio-Nazi Shas’ leader says religious physicians cannot violate Sabbath in order to save gentiles’ lives, but offers halachic solution to avoid legal repercussions

What should religious doctors do if a gentile is injured in a car accident on Shabbat and is rushed to the hospital? According to Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, this does not warrant violating the sanctity of the Sabbath.

During a class on Sabbath halacha relating to religious physicians, the spiritual leader of Shas said that while doctors are expected to do everything in their power – even if it requires violating the Sabbath – in order to save Jews whose lives are in danger, the same does not apply for gentiles.

“If a gentile were to get injured in a car accident during Sabbath, and he is brought to the hospital – Israel must not treat him,” he said, explaining that “if the particular procedures come from rabbis (de-rabbanan), then they might be permitted, but if they stem from prohibitions in the Torah (de-’oraita), then they are not allowed, as the Torah forbids to violate the Sabbath for gentiles.”

Rabbi Yosef expounded on the problem, saying that the Mishnah Berurah explicitly says that “all religious physicians who treat gentiles on the Sabbath or violating the Sabbath; however, in reality the patients are brought to the hospital and must be treated. The doctors’ license says they must treat all patients without distinction of faith or race, and if they don’t, the State could revoke their license and also punish them. So what should the poor doctors do?”

The rabbi offered a halachic solution that follows a rule by which if a single person is doing the act, he is violating the Sabbath, while if two people are doing it together, they are exempt.

“The doctor who needs to operate will call on another doctor, or nurse, to hold the scalpel together and make the incision,” said Rabbi Yosef, saying that “it is necessary in order for religious physicians to refrain from being put on trial for distinguishing between a Jew and a gentile on Sabbath.”

BBC Poll: IsraHell global image plummets

Zio-Nazi regime  ranks among states perceived to have most negative influence on world, according to BBC poll; only Iran, Pakistan do worse, Zio-Nazi image hits nadir in Europe

Israel is ranked third among nations perceived as having a negative influence on the world, the BBC’s annual poll shows, indicating further decline in the Jewish state’s global image.

Only Iran and Pakistan did worse than Israel in the survey.

The poll, undertaken between December 2011 and February 2012, encompassed 24,090 respondents worldwide. Iran took the unflattering top spot, again, with 55% of respondents saying is has a negative influence on the world. Pakistan ranked second (51%), with Israel and North Korea tied for third place (50%).

Last year, 47% of poll respondents said Israel had a negative effect on the world.

According to the latest survey, only 21% of respondents view Israel’s influence as mostly positive, the same figure as last year. A favorable change in the West was only recorded in the United States, with 50% of Americans saying they view Israel in a positive light, compared to 35% who said they view the Jewish state in a negative light.

Declining support in China, India

The US figures constitute the highest approval rating for Israel by Americans since the poll’s initiation, in 2005. Two more nations with favorable attitudes towards Israel are Nigeria (54%) and Kenya (46%).

In post-revolution Egypt, 85% of respondents said they view Israel in a negative light, a 7% rise from last year. The Jewish state’s situation is particularly grim in Europe, with 74% of Spaniards viewing Israel negatively. Negative attitudes were also recorded in France (65%), Germany (69%), Britain (68%), Australia (65%) and Canada (59%).

Support for Israel also declined in China, India and Russia.

According to the survey, the most beloved states in the world are Japan, Germany, Canada, Britain and China.

Go to Google and type in “H.R. 4133.” You will discover that, apart from a handful of blogs and alternative news sites, not a single mainstream medium has reported the story of a congressional bill that might well have major impact on the conduct of United States foreign policy. H.R. 4133, the United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012, was introduced into the House of Representatives of the 112th Congress on March 5 “to express the sense of Congress regarding the United States-Israel strategic relationship, to direct the president to submit to Congress reports on United States actions to enhance this relationship and to assist in the defense of Israel, and for other purposes.” The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) reportedly helped draft the bill, and its co-sponsors include Republicans Eric Cantor and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Democrats Howard Berman and Steny Hoyer. Hoyer is the Democratic whip in the House of Representatives, where Cantor is majority leader. Ros-Lehtinen heads the Foreign Affairs Committee.

The House bill basically provides Israel with a blank check drawn on the U.S. taxpayer to maintain its “qualitative military edge” over all of its neighbors combined. It requires the White House to prepare an annual report on how that superiority is being maintained. The resolution passed on May 9 by a vote of 411–2 on a “suspension of the rules,” which is intended for non-controversial legislation requiring little debate and a quick vote.

A number of congressmen spoke on the bill, affirming their undying dedication to the cause of Israel. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was the only one who spoke out against it, describing it as “one-sided and counterproductive foreign policy legislation. This bill’s real intent seems to be more saber-rattling against Iran and Syria.” Paul also observed that “this bill states that it is the policy of the United States to ‘reaffirm the enduring commitment of the United States to the security of the State of Israel as a Jewish state.’ However, according to our Constitution, the policy of the United States government should be to protect the security of the United States, not to guarantee the religious, ethnic, or cultural composition of a foreign country.” Paul voted “no” and was joined by only one other representative, John Dingell of Michigan, who represents a large Muslim constituency.

It is interesting to note what exactly the bill pledges the American people to do on behalf of Israel. It obligates the United States to veto resolutions critical of Israel, to provide such military support “as is necessary,” to pay for the building of an anti-missile system, to provide advanced “defense” equipment (including refueling tankers, which are offensive), to give Israel special munitions (i.e., bunker-busters, which are also offensive), to forward deploy more U.S. military equipment to Israel, to offer the Israeli air force more training and facilities in the U.S., to increase security- and advanced-technology-program cooperation, and to extend loan guarantees and expand intelligence-sharing (including highly sensitive satellite imagery). Actually, there’s even more included, and I may have missed the kitchen sink. But the objective is to provide Israel with the resources to attack Iran, if it chooses to do so, while tying the U.S. and Israel so closely together that whatever Benjamin Netanyahu does, the U.S. “will always be there,” as our president has so aptly put it.

But the scariest bit of the bill is its call for “an expanded role for Israel within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), including an enhanced presence at NATO headquarters and exercises.” If Israel becomes part of NATO, which is clearly Congress’s intent, the U.S. and other members will be obligated to come to the aid of a nation that is expanding its borders and is currently engaged in hostilities with three of its neighbors. Israel has also initiated a series of regional wars. Whether NATO membership for Israel would benefit anyone is questionable, but it is something the neocons have been seeking for years, to turn Israel’s wars into a new crusade against the Muslim world.

And then there is the congressional propensity to conceal additional spending in legislation that is normally passed without a great deal of debate. It is perhaps no coincidence that on May 7 the Republican spokesman, the redoubtable Howard “Buck” McKeon, chairman of the Armed Services Committee, released his party’sproposal for increased defense spending (yes, increased) for 2013. McKeon, who has never served in the military and who was holds a bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry from Brigham Young University, is an uber-hawk who relies heavily on campaign contributions from the defense industry. Perhaps “Buck” should consider changing his sobriquet to “Warbucks,” but as he probably lacks a sense of humor, it would be wasted on him.

Included in the proposed defense bill is a cool $1 billion for Israel to upgrade its missile defenses. Money for Israel inserted in the U.S. defense budget suggests that Congress believes that defense of the U.S. and defense of Israel are pretty much conjoined at the hip. That’s on top of the $3 billion Tel Aviv already receives and the numerous defense co-production programs that it benefits from, which will clearly be expanded if 4133 is any indication. The media predictably underreported the largesse for Israel with a couple of lines hidden away in a story in The Washington Post about overall defense spending.

Many who follow the issue have known for some time that Congress, generally speaking, will unhesitatingly do anything to benefit Israel and its supporters, be damned the consequences for the rest of us. That they do it without any public scrutiny is unforgivable and is as much the fault of the media as it is of the devious ways of America’s legislature. If Congress wants to give Israel the type of guarantees that would require Washington to support Tel Aviv’s foreign and security policy, there should be a free and open debate with the American people understanding clearly what such a commitment means in terms of costs and consequences, not a “suspension of rules” stealth legislative package. If Buck McKeon and his friends on the House Armed Services Committee want to give Israel a billion dollars and actually believe it serves the U.S. national interest, why do they hide it in a procurement bill for the defense of the United States? If historians 100 years from now seek to explain how a great power committed seemingly intentional national suicide, they will have to look no further than the voting record of the U.S. Congress.

“The President’s Private War”: Judge Reveals Obama’s Pro-Zionist Military Aggression

In his three-plus years in office, Obama has launched 254 drones toward persons in Pakistan, and they collectively have killed 1,277 persons there, former New Jersey Superior Court judge Andrew P. Napolitano has reveled.

Writing in an opinion piece published by Fox News, Judge Napolitano outlined the astonishing “private war” being waged by executive order of President Obama, all against Muslim targets whose major crime is their hostility towards the Zionist lobby’s control of the American government.

“Did you know that the United States government is using drones to kill innocent people in Pakistan? Did you know that the Pakistani government has asked President Obama to stop it and he won’t? Did you know that Pakistan is a sovereign country that has nuclear weapons and is an American ally?” Judge Napolitan wrote.

Last week, the Obama administration not only acknowledged the use of the drones; it also revealed that it has plans to increase the frequency and ferocity of the attacks. White House counterterrorism adviser John O. Brennan argued that these attacks are “in full accordance with the law” and are not likely to be stopped anytime soon.

Brennan declined to say how many people were killed or just where the killings took place or who is doing it. But we know that Obama has a morbid fascination with his plastic killing machines, and we know that these machines are among the favored tools of the CIA. We also know that if the president had been using the military to do this, he’d be legally compelled to reveal it to Congress and eventually to seek permission.

We know about the need to tell Congress and ask for permission because of the War Powers Act. This law, enacted in 1973 over President Nixon’s veto, permits the president to use the military for 90 days before telling Congress and for 180 days before he needs congressional authorization. Obama must believe that he can bypass this law by using civilian CIA agents, rather than uniformed military, to do his killing.

The Constitution limits the presidential use of war powers to those necessary for an immediate defense of the United States or those exercised pursuant to a valid congressional declaration of war. In this case of Pakistan, the president has neither.

And international law prohibits entering a sovereign country without its consent. But Brennan argued that the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), which Congress enacted in 2001 in the aftermath of 9/11 to enable President Bush to pursue the perpetrators of 9/11, is essentially carte blanche for any president to kill whomever he wants, and that the use of drones, rather than the military or rather than arresting those the government believes have conspired to harm us, is a “surgical” technique that safeguards the innocent.

Attorney General Eric Holder made a similar unconstitutional argument a few months ago when he stated in defense of the president’s using drones to kill Americans in Yemen that the AUMF, plus the careful consideration that the White House gives to the dimensions of each killing and the culpability of each person killed, somehow satisfied the Constitution’s requirements for due process.

What monstrous nonsense all this is.

These killings 10,000 miles from here hardly constitute self-defense and are not in pursuit of a declaration of war. So, what has Congress done about this? Nothing. And what have the courts done about this? Nothing.

Prior to the president’s ordering the killing of the New Mexico-born and unindicted and uncharged Anwar al-Awlaki, al-Awlaki’s American father sued the president in federal district court and asked a judge to prevent the president from murdering his son in Yemen. After the judge dismissed the case, a CIA-fired drone killed al-Awlaki and his American companion and his 16-year-old American son.

In his three-plus years in office, Obama has launched 254 drones toward persons in Pakistan, and they collectively have killed 1,277 persons there. The New America Foundation, a Washington think tank that monitors the presidential use of drones in Pakistan, estimates that between 11 and 17 percent of the drone victims are innocent Pakistani civilians. So much for Brennan’s surgical strikes. So much for Holder’s due process.

The president is waging a private war against private persons — even Americans — whose deaths he obviously believes will keep America safe. But he is doing so without congressional authorization, in violation of the Constitution, and in a manner that jeopardizes our freedom.

Who will keep us safe from a president who wants to use drones here? How long will it be before local American governments — 313 of which already possess drones — use them to kill here because they are surgical and a substitute for due process? Can you imagine the outcry if Cuba or China launched drones at their dissidents in Florida or California and used Obama’s behavior in Pakistan as a justification?

How long will it be before even the semblance of our Constitution is gone?

Ed Schultz and the “Mission Accomplished” Fiasco

by Jim Fetzer and Yvonne Wachter

Saddam and one of his doubles

“I’m sorry to say this, . . . [but] Mr. Schultz has blood on his hands.” — Yvonne Wachter

On Thursday, 3 May 2012, I was briefly interviewed by Ed Schultz on “The Ed Schultz Show”, which is broadcast here in Madison over 92.1 FM.  He had mentioned earlier in the program how the“Mission Accomplished” event on the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln off the coast of San Diego had turned into a fiasco, where there had been next to nothing to report.  I knew from my interviews and conversations with Yvonne Wachter, however, that Saddam Hussein, his two sons, and around 60 members of his general staff had been taken out by her son, then Major Chris Wachter (whom I had inadvertently reduced in rank to Captain) as the pilot of a B-1 bomber on 7 April 2003, only three weeks into “Operation Iraqi Freedom”.  So I explained on the air (to the best of my recollection):

“Ed, the ‘Mission Accomplished’ event was originally planned to announce that USAF Capt. Chris Wachter had taken out Saddam Hussein, his two sons and around 60 members of his general staff at a restaurant in the suburbs of Baghdad with his B-1 bomber.“When he returned to the base, he was lionized, put on CNN, and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Someone in the administration must have realized that three presidents–Reagan, Carter, and Ford–had signed executive orders prohibiting the assassination of heads of foreign states.“He was brought back to Washington and told that, while they admired his flying skills, officially Saddam Hussein had gotten away, where they used one of his doubles for the trial.”

Ed sounded genuinely excited and said, “Wow! I want you to stay over to talk more after the break. This may be one of those ‘Paul Harvey’ moments where ‘Now you know the rest of the story!”

As I have now explained, although Ed had asked me to “stay over” so we could have “the rest of the story”, I was kept hanging for an hour and fifteen minutes more, which not only interfered with my lunch with a friend, which I had forfeited in order to inform the American people about one of the great “con jobs” of the “war on terror” but also to add significant details about how he had been tracked using British-made Jaguar cell phones, how even Dick Cheney had acknowledged that Saddam had been killed and that Chris Wachter had even been honored byThe Rev. Robert Schiller at The Crystal Cathedral.  But apparently that was not the kind of information that Ed Schultz and his handlers wanted to be heard during his broadcast.

The hanging of another of Saddam’s doubles

My faith in Ed Schultz has now been badly shaken.  As though I had a thick skull and did not get “the big picture”, I naively supposed that I might here from his staff or even from Ed himself, a sentiment that was shared by Yvonne.  After she had listened to the shown on Monday, she wrote to me as follows: “Don’t know if you caught Schultz’s show today.  He referred to all the people who want to see Pres. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney tried as war criminals as “conspiracy theorists.”  That’s the first time I’ve heard that…and that, of course, would include you and me.  Think it has anything to do with your missive against him?” To which I replied, “Well, I agree with Michael Moore who replied, when asked, “Do you believe in conspiracy theories?”, replied, “Only those that are true.”

Ed Schultz, however, appears to have no interest in the truth about some of the most important events of the 21st Century, where he appears to be playing his role along with other left-wing 9/11 gatekeepers. I would have been glad to have elaborated upon the use of a double, where Saddam Hussein, the ruler of a nation with an ancient civilization, who owned many palaces and had the wealth of a wealthy nation at his disposal, sought to preserve his life intact by having many doubles, one of whom was used for the stage-managed “trial” that led to his apparent execution by hanging.  But think how easy it would have been to talk him into standing-in for the deceased Saddam by promising him a secure future under a new identity, where it would have been pitifully simple to have convinced him that he would be well-compensated for perpetuating the pretense, assuring him that the hanging, like the rest of the trial, would be staged, where he upheld his part of the bargain only to be betrayed and then be actually hung.  What a simple way to dispose of an inconvenient witness?  Yvonne was so upset by Ed Schultz that she drafted a letter about him, which I am posting here.  And on “The Meria Show” the following day, I pursued some of these issues, where Yvonne has made a transcript of the first hour of the show, where the whole show can be heard here.

Yvonne Wachter’s Letter about Ed Schultz

Dear Professor Fetzer,

I wonder if you were watching “The Ed Schultz Show” yesterday, May 7, 2012.  After learning of your mistreatment by Mr. Schultz Thursday, which you made public in last Saturday’s issue of “Veterans Today,” I was hoping to hear Mr. Schultz offer an apology and perhaps an invitation to have you speak on his show as he had promised but then backed out of.  Instead, I distinctly heard Mr. Schultz take a swipe at those of us who wish to see former President George W. Bush and V.P. Cheney tried as war criminals, calling us “conspiracy theorists.”  I am highly offended by Mr. Schultz’s abject degradation of you and me.

I had always admired Mr. Schultz and considered him a tough-talking, hard-hitting, prize-fighting champion of truth.  To dismiss us both and to then “dis” us, without listening to or reading all the evidence we have to show that Saddam Hussein was killed on April 7, 2003 by the crew of Swede 72 flying their B1-B Lancer bomber, of which my son Lt. Col. Chris Wachter was at that time Maj. Chris Wachter, Commander/Pilot of the aircraft, is more than absurd; it is utterly ignorant.  I was hoping to avoid a confrontation over this, but I think it’s now time for the “bomba mamma” to vent.

Has Mr. Schultz forgotten that we were lied into Operation Iraqi Freedom by President George W. Bush?

Has Mr. Schultz forgotten that on May 1, 2003, President George W. Bush left everybody wondering what the hell he was talking about on board the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, standing under a banner that said, “Mission Accomplished,” yet seeming to not really say directly what the mission was and what was accomplished?

Did Mr. Schultz – as a seasoned journalist – not know what most of us were at that time unfamiliar with, that being a new word being added to our daily lexicon: fallen?

Did Mr. Schultz not hear President George W. Bush say in his speech on May 1, 2003, three full weeks after the April 7, 2003 bombing and after sufficient time had passed to confirm DNA tests on a lifeless body of Saddam Hussein, “The tyrant has FALLEN”?

Does Mr. Schultz not know what “fallen” means?

Was Mr. Schultz so oblivious at the time that he failed to read The New York Times article on June 4, 2003 entitled “AFTER THE WAR: BAGHDAD; U.S. Begins to Excavate Bomb Crater in Search for Hussein’s Remains” wherein V.P. Cheney is quoted as saying a month earlier, “I think we did get Saddam Hussein.  He was seen being dug out of the rubble and wasn’t able to breathe”?

Did Mr. Schultz not heard the sickening roll calls of the names of all our FALLEN soldiers played every day of Operation Iraqi Freedom, so that there can be no question of what “fallen” means?  Or would Mr. Schultz have us equivocate over what “fallen” means?  You know, one of those ridiculous “It depends on what ‘Is is’ argumentations?  FYI, Mr. Schultz: none of those fallen soldiers simply “fell down and went boom” and Saddam Hussein didn’t simply trip and fall on April 7, 2003.  Regimes fall, meaning “topple”; people fall, meaning “die.”

Does Mr. Schultz not care that because George W. Bush failed to take responsibility for directly ordering the assassination of Saddam Hussein, the Mission which WAS accomplished by all accounts and believed by top military leaders for TWO FULL MONTHS AFTER THE EVENT (Saddam was assassinated by U.S. forces), that President George W. Bush has allowed my son and his crew members to have fatwas put upon their very lives due to the story circulated by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on or about the middle of July that Saddam got away and they killed all innocent civilians that day, when the truth should have been told and the crew of Swede 72 all should have been openly treated as national heroes for carrying out a flawless mission to kill Saddam Hussein?

George W. Bush desperately wanted to kill the man who tried to kill his father.  You’d think he’d be bursting with pride at doing just that.  But that would mean risking his own neck and the prospect of facing a tribunal in the Hague for ordering someone else to do his killing for him, the killing of a person who was protected under Executive Order 12333 and other restrictive orders governing rules of engagement as relating to protected leaders of sovereign nations.  Saddam was evil, no doubt.  And the crew of Swede 72 had no idea who their target was or that he was a protected person not to be targeted; nonetheless, they are all heroes to most everyone the world round for taking down Saddam Hussein.  But it is George W. Bush who gave an illegal order to kill him, and it is George W. Bush who dare not stand tall and claim responsibility for giving that very order.

I’m sorry to say this, because it is a strong statement based on what I believe is the only reasonable conclusion of the position on this that Mr. Schultz has chosen to take: It would appear that by supporting President George W. Bush and his disinformation campaign, which allowed the war in Iraq to carry on past “Mission Accomplished” to the detriment of countless thousands of families who have been shattered by the DEATHS of their soldiers and Iraqi families, as the world foolishly believed we needed to continue to wage war and hunt for Saddam, Mr. Schultz has blood on his hands.

Yvonne Wachter

Jim Fetzer on “The Meria Show”

Here is a transcript of the first hour of my show with Meria Heller, which was broadcast Tuesday, 8 May 2012, on “The Meria Show”, where Yvonne has provide an abbreviated text of the show in progress from the first hour of our conversation as follows:

Prof. Fetzer:  Last Thursday I had a very unsettling experience.  I was listening to Ed Schultz, whom I’ve long admired.  He was talking about the Mission Accomplished fiasco and how it hadn’t made any sense at all.  So because I know what had happened from my interviews with Yvonne Wachter, who is the mother of the Air Force B1-bomber pilot who had actually taken out Saddam, his two sons and about 60 members of his general staff on 7 April 2003, I called in to the show.  I told the screener what I wanted to say, and this was about 11:25.  He kept me on hold until about just a few minutes before noon when he put me on.

And I sketched out to Ed how what had happened was that the “Mission Accomplished” event had been organized in order to announce that Chris Wachter had taken out Saddam Hussein and his two sons and so forth, but someone had — when he returned to base he’d been lionized, he was put on CNN, he was given the Distinguished Flying Cross, but that someone had realized that three presidents — Reagan, Carter and Ford — had signed Executive Orders prohibiting the assassination of heads of foreign states, which meant that if they had announced it Bush would have been subjected to severe international criticism.

The double used for the fake trial of Saddam Husseain

So they called Chris Wachter back to Washington and they told him that while they admired his flying skills, that officially Saddam had gotten away.  They had used one of his doubles to try to presumably hand him. Ed was initially very excited, Meria.  He said, “Wow!”  He said, “I got to keep you on over the break.  This may be one of those Paul Harvey moments where now you know the rest of the story.”

Meria: Right.

Prof. Fetzer:  I thought that sounded fine.  And we went to the break and then he came back and started talking to Alan Grayson, a Congressman running for office out of Florida, which didn’t bother me at all.  But then when he was done, after a couple more commercials, he started to take calls from other people.  And would you believe, Meria, from noon to 1:15 I stayed for an hour and fifteen minutes waiting for Ed to bring me back on before I got the message?

Meria: Right.

Prof. Fetzer:   He was just hanging me out to dry.

Meria: Right, that you weren’t going back on.  And I remember –

Prof. Fetzer:   I was rather appalled by this.  And I published an article about it entitled, “Ouch!  Ed Schultz is a Phony and a Fraud,” because I mean here I’m exposing one of the great con jobs of the war on terrorism –

Meria: Right.

Prof. Fetzer:   — about Saddam Hussein, which happened after only about three weeks into the war, and if this had been announced Americans would have known there was really no good reason for this to continue.  And yet, it’s gone on and on and on and on and thousands of American young men and women have been killed in the meanwhile, with all the fakery and phony trial.  I mean even one of Saddam’s wives had visited him and explained — you know, arranged by the Red Cross — and explained this was not her husband.

Major Chris Wachter at The Crystal Cathedral

Meria: Right.

Prof. Fetzer:    What had they done with her husband?  Even Dick Cheney had been quoted as saying his lifeless body had been dragged out of the rubble and they were confident he was dead.  I mean I sent Ed a letter about this and just enumerated item after item after item of proof that what Yvonne had told me was true.  And it’s shocking and appalling.  Chris Wachter was even honored in The Crystal Cathedral by the Reverend Robert Schuller.  And while I believe they are doing everything they can to eliminate all these links, some of which even go to articles in The New York Times quoting Cheney, Meria, I had made sure we downloaded that footage off line so that we can still watch Robert Schuller praising Capt. Chris Wachter for taking out  Saddam Hussein, his sons and the members of his general — in the Crystal Cathedral!  If you go to that article, you can watch it for yourself.

Meria: Right.  Now I remember because you had come on my show with Yvonne.

Prof. Fetzer:   That’s exactly right, Meria.  We were so pleased when you invited us to come on.

Meria:  How could I turn down a story like that?  Are you kidding me?

Prof. Fetzer:   But Meria, are you the only journalist with integrity in the United States?  I mean this was so shocking about Ed Schultz because I always thought he was one of the good guys.  And Yvonne has just let me know — we talked today — that yesterday Ed Schultz came on the air and she said he was in a very foul mood and he apparently, in an attempt to dismiss my call from Friday, and where I had sent him a link to my article inVeterans Today, he said that there are some people who are going after Bush and Cheney and want them to be tried as war criminals.  And then he really sneered and described them as “conspiracy theorists.”  Meria, can you believe that?

Meria:  What does that tell you?

Prof. Fetzer:   I mean that’s the only verbal club that’s being used to dismiss anyone who explains how the government has been lying to us.

Meria: Exactly.

Prof. Fetzer:   I would rather say we are conspiracy realists because we are actually studying the evidence and exposing falsehoods and revealing truths.  I agree with Michael Moore when he was asked whether he believed in conspiracy theories replied, “Only those that are true.”

Meria:  Right.  Well, how many people get convicted of conspiracy in this country?

Book by yet another of Saddam’s doubles

Prof. Fetzer:    Yes, it’s one of the most widely prosecuted crimes in the country and only requires two or more individuals collaborating together to bring about a crime.  That’s conspiracy.

 Meria:  Right.

Prof. Fetzer:    So to me it’s a stunning confirmation in two respects, Meria. Can you believe this?  After I went on the air with him and told Yvonne about it, she was excited about it so she went searching through the Internet to find that brief clip where I had been on just in the few minutes before noon on Friday.  And she reported back that they had all been scrubbed.  They’d been taken off of the Internet.

And then, number two, for him to come back and try to indirectly dismiss me and her as conspiracy theorists, that was further outrage. That actually confirms that Ed Schultz is part of the mass media cover up.  I mean William Colby told us years ago that the CIA holds everyone of any significance in the major media.  I just didn’t expect that that would include Ed Schultz.

Meria:  Well, you got to look at  — he’s on GCN, isn’t he?

Prof. Fetzer:   Maybe.  Here he’s on a progressive radio station, 92.1FM.

Meria:  But people have to get this, you know.  There’s so many bullshitters out there that claim to be alternative media.   But you’ve got to do the homework to see.  Are they left gatekeepers?  Who’s supporting them Who’s paying for their show?  Is it The Ford Foundation?  Is it some gold baron funding their shows?  Even if those people pretend to be real, alternative media, their mouths are tied because they won’t get paid if they actually cover real news.

Prof. Fetzer:   Well you know, Meria, Ed has done so much good in supporting the labor movement when we were having all of the protests here in the Capitol and coincidentally today is the day we have the primary to decide who’s going to run against Scott Walker in our recall election a few weeks hence.  He was here to cover it.  He  was the only major media figure to do that.  I’ve only had very positive feelings toward Ed Schultz.

But for him to cover up, you know, on events like this — in fact, a friend I know here who runs a restaurant, a wonderful restaurant called The Weary Traveler right here in Madison, told me that when Ed Schultz had come to Madison – before he had a conversation with his producer, and his producer explained to him that they weren’t in town to cover what he called “New World Order issues,” including 9/11.

It seems to me that when you have public events, like the “Mission Accomplished” thing, which was so strange –

Meria: Right.

(Partial) double’s book jacket blurb

Prof. Fetzer: — when you hear an explanation for it that involved a massive con job and misleading the American people, where thousands of young American men and women have died after Saddam was already taken out and the false belief that he was still alive, this to me is morally corrupt and intellectually outrageous and I am just ashamed that Ed Schultz is a part of it.

Meria:  Well, you know, I always tell my listeners because I don’t like to talk bad about other people because you know what Jim?  I figure everybody finds their audience, okay?  And I just tell my listeners – and I have for 12 years now on the ‘Net — “Don’t just pay attention to who I put on my show.  But specifically pay attention to the people that Inever have on my show.”

Prof. Fetzer:   Hahahahaha!

Meria:  Okay?  So that’s my way of saying, “Those people are full of shit and they are never going to be on my show.  But if you still think they’re telling you something good because it’s half truth — To me, I’ve always said the same thing: half truth is still half lies.

Prof. Fetzer:   That’s right.  That’s right.  We need to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, especially about our own history.  I mean we have been given such massive lies about JFK, for example, about 9/11, for another, even about the plane crash that took the life of Senator Paul Wellstone of Minnesota who was an outspoken critic of the Bush-Cheney Administration.  And then, Meria, he was warned by Dick Cheney personally that if he opposed them on Iraq there would be severe ramifications for him and for the State of Minnesota.

What could be more severe than actually taking him out in a plane crash so that Minnesota loses its senator and then pushing this mediocrity who had been the Mayor of St. Paul to the fore and largely trashing the memorial service for Paul Wellstone that inevitably would have aspects of a political campaign about it because it was only days before the election where one of his campaign managers had said, “We want to get on a bus and win this for Paul.”

And so people like Noonan — you know, the speech writer for Reagan — had trashed this as having been a political event instead of a memorial service.  But of course everyone who would have participated would have been a mixture of both.  There was nothing wrong with it all.  But Peggy Noonan and other Rep political operatives all virtually in unison trashed the Democrats for betraying the legacy of Paul Wellstone when they were doing precisely the opposite:  they were seeking to perpetuate it.

Meria:  Right.  Jim, we’re going to go to a short break.  But stay with me because I’ve got plenty more stuff I want to talk to you about.

Stay with us.  Jim Fetzer and I will be right back.

(commercial break)

Palestinian Prisoners – Kidnapped and Neglected

by Sami  Jamil Jadallah

In contrast to Gilad Shalit, the French-Israeli soldier kidnapped by Hamas on June 2006, who became a cause celebrate by heads of states, international organizations, kidnapped Palestinian civilians are ignored by Israel, by the Palestinian leadership, certainly by the world community.

Gilad Shalit was not an ordinary Israeli civilian citizen. He was a soldier, a member of the IDF, carrying a gun, ready to shoot and kill. He was a prisoner of war. In contrast, the Palestinian prisoners held under administrative detention are kidnapped civilians, not soldiers, not carrying guns, did not shoot or kill any one. They are simply kidnapped and held without cause and without trial by a criminal Israel and every one that count remains silent.

The interesting thing about Israel’s administrative detention is that it is inherited from the former British Mandate in Palestine and used to detain and applied more to Palestinians and much less to Jews, even though Jewish settlers were actively engaged in terrorist activities.

It is also interesting to note until Israel formally adopted the “administrative detention” in 1979, the Knesset and for a long time since the founding of the state refused to formally adopt it, as it was ashamed to use it. The state simply “borrowed” it to detain Palestinians, first those who remained in Palestine of 48 and then later widely used to detain hundreds of thousands since 67. Over 600,000 Palestinians were processed through Israeli jails. That is one third of the population.

Israel uses “administrative detention” to punish, intimidate even force detainees to become “informers” of Shin Beth, the Israeli internal security agency.

Under Israeli laws, the Defense Minister has the authority and power to detain any one for renewable periods of 6 months based on recommendations of the various security agencies. Of course no need for any detainee to have committed any crimes. Simply if the security agencies think a detainee is a person of interest it can detain them.

Moreover the law does not require the state to bring or file formal charges, and the detainee has no right of council, and has no right to see or cross examine the order, neither the defense lawyer. So-called “evidence” is presented to a presiding judge normally in a military court and the state does not even have to present evidence. A simple letter from the Defense Ministry claiming there is “evidence” is sufficient to send someone to jail for yearns without trial. Now my friends this is the only democracy in the Middle East and this is America’s best ally, certainly the most expensive ally in the history of the world.

Of course we all need to keep in mind that the US like its ally Israel did and does exercise the powers of “administrative detention”. In fact over 110,000 Japanese American were also held in administrative detention called “internment camps”.

Now these people were never charged with any crime, nor there were any evidence they collaborated with the Japanese. Yet the President of the United States saw it fit to detain these American people simply because they were Japanese.

While the US detained and “interned” these US citizens because they were of Japanese origin, the US did not detain or create internment camps for Americans of

German origin living on the East Coast.

The US Supreme Court in Karamtsu vs. the US, 323 US 214, sided with the government and ruled President Roosevelt Executive Order 9066 was constitutional. I was surprised back in 76 when I did a research paper on the subject

that the most liberal justice on the court justice William Douglas ruled with the majority of 6-3. That case stand, it was never overruled.

While every Tom, Dick and Harry from Obama to Blair, to Merkel to Sarkozy to too many to mention traveled to Jerusalem and Ramallah in support of the release of Gilad Shalit, even the G8, the Catholic Church, Russian leadership all demanded his release. He became an “honorary” citizen” of many countries in Europe. Yet hardly any one, not even the UN ever gave a damn about the thousand Palestinians kidnapped and detained by Israel.

More tragic is the fact that the Ramallah leadership never made the issue of kidnapped prisoners a priority or an issue in international meetings, only giving a lip service. Only when these detainees went on hunger strike did the Ramallah

leadership paid any attention. Its priority always was to seek funds to operate and serve the Jewish Occupation.

Unlike the movie Fiddler on the Roof when the lead character Tevye sang his song “If I was a rich man,” the Palestinians prisoners should be singing the song “ If I was Jew”. Only then will the world give them any attention.

A Mother’s Day Manifesto and about Shimon Peres

by Eileen Fleming

Not often is the power of ONE able to make a damn bit of a difference in our Orwellian World, but a few mothers who did, were Anna Jarvis, an Appalachian homemaker, who organized a day to raise awareness of poor health conditions in her community. Fifteen years later, Julia Ward Howe, a Boston poet, pacifist, suffragist, and author of the lyrics to the “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” organized a day encouraging mothers to rally for peace.

As mothers bear the loss of human life more acutely than anyone else, in 1870, Julia Ward Howe wrote the first Mother’s Day Proclamation, from which I excerpt:

Arise then…women of this day!
Arise, all women who have hearts!
Whether your baptism be of water or of tears!
From the voice of a devastated Earth a voice goes up with
Our own. It says: Disarm! Disarm!
The sword of murder is not the balance of justice.
Blood does not wipe our dishonor; nor violence indicate possession. At the summons of war let women now leave all that may be left of home for a great and earnest day of counsel.
Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.
Let them solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means
Whereby the great human family can live in peace;
Each bearing after his own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar;
But of God.

Today, The Institute for Research Middle Eastern Policy (IRmep) a Washington-based nonprofit organization that studies US-Middle East policy formulation also provides citizens access to initiatives regarding the most harmful forces driving policy formulation in the US political process.

Spokesman for IRmep is author, Grant S. Smith who offers us this Mother’s Day opportunity to speak Truth to Power regarding a Master of War.

With only 250 signatories the following petition will “become publicly visible on the White House website. That alone would be something of an accomplishment,” Smith explained in an email and his Petition Reads:

We petition the Obama administration to:

Do not award a Presidential Medal of Freedom to Israeli President Shimon Peres, a nuclear proliferator.

President Obama has announced he will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom of Israeli President Shimon Peres.

According to the book “Israel and the Bomb” by Avner Cohen, Peres played a key role in the Israeli nuclear weapons program.

According to declassified documents published by scholar Sasha Polakow-Suransky in 2010, Peres even offered to sell nuclear-tipped Jericho missiles to Apartheid South Africa.

According to the book “Divert” part of the clandestine Israel nuclear program even involved stealing US government-owned nuclear material from the NUMEC plant in Pennsylvania. This occurred while Peres was in charge.

Giving a Presidential Medal of Freedom to Peres is tantamount to rewarding the only nuclear proliferator in the Middle East.

Within days of the announcement for 2009’s Nobel Peace Prize, Israeli Nuclear Whistle Blower, Mordechai Vanunu declined the honor in a letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee in Oslo:

“I am asking the committee to remove my name from the nominations…I cannot be part of a list of laureates that includes Simon Peres…Peres established and developed the atomic weapon program in Dimona in Israel…Peres was the man who ordered [my] kidnapping…he continues to oppose my freedom and release…WHAT I WANT IS FREEDOM AND ONLY FREEDOM….FREEDOM AND ONLY FREEDOM I NEED NOW.”

Vanunu is still waiting for his right to leave Israel and his next appeal seeking to revoke his citizenship is scheduled for July:

In the 21st century, patriarchal ‘civilization’ persists in the insanity of violence for violence and this mother contends that Caesar today is the Government Industrial Military Security/Surveillance Complex, which would collapse if enough of we the people rose up and demanded our ‘leaders’ change course from state sponsored violence to dialoguing with the ‘enemy’ and uphold our obligations as a Member State of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which includes holding all other Member States to it-and that also includes Israel:

We the people of America who pay taxes are culpable for most all of the world’s manufacturing, use of, and exporting of weapons of all degrees of destruction-which terrorize every innocent caught in the crossfire.

In 1999, the UN dedicated the first decade of the 21st century to “Create a Culture of Nonviolence for All Children of The World” but I did not learn of it until December 2005, when I attended Holy Land Trust’s Celebrating Nonviolent Solidarity Conference in the Little Town of Bethlehem: which is Occupied Territory!

I also learned that America abstained from voting on this UN initiative and is on the record in the UN as stating: “We cannot support this initiative as it will make it harder for us to wage war.”

The hearts and minds that require the most transformation are the ones that hold the most political power; but power never gives any away without a fierce battle!

Also during that 2005 conference in the little town of Bethlehem, Jeff Halper, American Israeli, Coordinator and Co-founder of Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, about how we need to look at life as if it were a play and then claim a part; for when enough ‘actors’ [activists] pursue justice and remain nonviolent, ‘Caesar’ will be forced to acquiesce in order to maintain power.

Anglican Reverend Naim Ateek, a Palestinian refugee and founder of SABEEL Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center, spoke about how the use of state sponsored violence corrupts the true message of Christ.

Ateek explained how Christ’s teachings and life reflected the revolutionary concept of nonviolent action and how thousands of years of not reflecting upon the fact that evil can be opposed without being mirrored, and the cycle of a ‘tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye’, never has, never will, never can bring true peace or security.

Christ taught that one must forgive and love ones enemies and one must pray for those who persecute and hate them. In a nutshell, that is what being a Christian is truly about.

Before the reign of Emperor Constantine, all the early Church Fathers taught that Christians should not serve in the army but instead willingly suffer rather than inflict harm on any other human being. St. Paul taught that the only way to resist evil is with good. Clement, Tertillian, Polycarp and every other early Church Father taught that violence contradicts Christianity.

In 313 Constantine sought to unite his empire and by legitimizing Christianity-although he waited until on his deathbed to be baptized- many have said that was when the soul left the church.

Within 100 years after Constantine, the Empire required that all soldiers in the army must be baptized as Christians and thus, the decline of Christianity began.

Augustine was the first Church Father to speak about the concept of a Just War. The Church relaxed the standards Jesus set as they negated the true teaching of Christ to justify war and thus; wrong became right, for a true Christian will always be nonviolent.

“The God of war, violence, oppression and terror must be rejected. Authentic Christianity is nonviolent and is all about peace, justice and liberation.” -Rev. Naim Ateek.

Candidate George W. Bush once claimed his favorite philosopher was Jesus, but President Bush defied the philosophy, ethics, morals and teaching of Jesus who was most explicit that one must forgive to be forgiven, to pray and love one’s enemies; not bomb, torture or occupy them!

The problem is not with Christianity, but that too few, who claim to be Christian, have actually done what Christ taught.

Christians claim to comprehend that God is Love, but “Love is not the starving of whole populations. Love is not the bombardment of open cities. Love is not killing. Our manifesto is the Sermon on the Mount, which means that we will try to be peacemakers.” -Dorothy Day
Also during Holy Land Trusts Celebrating Nonviolence Conference, Dr. Mohamed Abu-Nimer from the Salam Institute of Peace and Justice stated:

“All the Abrahamic traditions are based in nonviolence, it is our lenses that determine whether we see it. Like Christianity the concept of a Just War took root and developed after lots of discussions dealing with how to deal with believers and nonbelievers.

“The first twelve years Mohamed spent in Mecca he practiced nonviolent resistance. He was persecuted but always prayed: ‘God forgive them, they do not know what they are doing.’

“Mohamed taught against the killing of innocents, the desecration of the environment and for the humane treatment and respect towards one’s enemies. Suicide bombings are not justified and those who try to justify it negate the early principals and teachings regarding nonviolence, the pursuit of justice, doing good, universality and human dignity, equality, that all life is sacred, to be forgiving and be a peace maker.”

As with Christianity; the ideals have yet to transform the hearts and minds of many who claim to be adherents of the faith.

In explaining this gap Dr. Abu-Nimer continued, “We are quick to blame the external factors such as colonialism, war, humiliation, Zionism and economic dependency. But what we lack is looking internally for we Muslims love authority, bureaucracy, loyalty and our core government system is based on nepotism not ability. There is corruption, co-optation of religious leaders, the patriarchal structure and hierarchy, the authoritarian control system, and the tribal mentality.

“We are not raised in our culture to question authority and if you engage in nonviolence you must resist authority. Our first step is to challenge our own presumptions…We have 5,000 sayings attributed to Mohamed and 700 authentically traced. The politicalization of his teachings began the corruption of his teachings.

“Every Muslim child is exposed to positive values as well as interpretations that are narrow and exclusive. An example is: ‘We are the best nation that God sent to people.’ If we truly follow the ideals of Islam, we are, but reality is that the ideals have been corrupted by wrong actions.

“Many interpret the saying: ‘Support your brother if he is just, right or wrong’ to mean you must be loyal regardless of his actions and don’t ask questions. The true way to support one’s brother [or tribe] is to point out the error of his [their] ways; to explain to him why he is wrong, to correct but not fight.”

St. Paul expressed the same sentiment when he warned: “Do not judge the nonbeliever, but provoke one another to good works.”

Dr. Abu-Nimer concluded, “Islam was revolutionary at its time but it went backwards. There is no lack of values; the lack is in interpretation…Islam must reclaim what Mohamed put down. It is a myth to believe that the conflict between Israel Palestine can be fixed by secular methods.”
Gandhi spoke about how personal nonviolence is not much use to society until one weds society to political action.

Please do something political and public this year in honor of the true essence of Mother’s Day-sign Smith’s petition

NATO Heads for Chicago

by Stephen Lendman

A $100 million NATO invasion is coming. Low intensity conflict may follow. The “City of Broad Shoulders” may get more than it bargained for.

Nelson Algren once called Chicago the “City on the Make.” NATO’s May 20/21 “on the make” invasion isn’t welcome.

Chicago announced an Obama-hosted “diplomatic summit.” Thousands plan protests against it.

The Coalition Against NATO/G8 War & Povertyissued a statement, saying:

“The city has carried out a campaign to intimidate and vilify protesters, claiming that protests lead to violence. In fact, the main source of violence in the world today is the wars being waged by NATO and the US.”

“We will march in May during the NATO meeting to deliver our message: Jobs, Housing, Healthcare, Education, Our Pensions, the Environment: Not War!”

“We and tens of thousands will be in the streets that day for a family friendly rally and march, with cries so loud they will be heard in Camp David and across the globe. We will be in the streets that day to fight for our future, and speak out against the wars and their cutbacks are designed to benefit the 1% at the expense of the 99% of the world.”

Last August, dozens of activists from 73 organizations met to plan large protests and marches when NATO arrives. United National Antiwar Coalition (UNAC) coordinator Joe Lombado said “(t)he entire world will be watching us.”

NATO doesn’t foster democratic values, liberation, and peace. It’s about wars, death, destruction and human misery. It requires draconian austerity and soaring debt to support it. A Chicago-style welcome awaits.

Organization representatives fear large scale crackdowns before and during protest demonstrations. Those involved plan to repudiate confrontations. They’ll also stand up for their constitutional rights.

Dozens of NATO heads of state and other top officials plan attending. Large delegations are coming with them. So are similar partner nation contingents.

The Chicago Tribune and Sun Times reported on elaborate security preparations. Hundreds of state police and National Guard forces are involved. So aren’t thousands of Chicago cops.

Secret Service staff also will be out in force. The ACLU said they’ll set up a security perimeter around McCormick Place. Part of Lake Shore Drive will be closed. It’s one of the city’s main arteries.

Enormous amounts of anti-scale steel fencing will be erected. Thousands of linear feet of concrete barriers will be strategically placed.

Secret Service spokesman George Ogilve declined to give specifics. The ACLU threatened court action unless details are released well in advance.

At issue are fundamental freedoms. They include speech and assembly rights. They’re also about police refraining from crackdowns on nonviolent protesters.

Will Chicago respect what NATO and Washington never do on so-called “liberating” missions? Activists want to know. The city has an odious reputation. More on that below.

Permits were granted for six protest events. Other groups got them earlier. Chicago cops cracked down anyway. A Secret Service/Chicago police business panel session revealed one planned tactic.

“Extraction teams” will snatch and grab protesters from crowds. Who for what reasons wasn’t explained.

Company representatives attending were told business won’t be affected. Staff won’t be deterred from moving around freely. How they’ll distinguish them from protesters and pedestrians isn’t clear, especially in large crowds.

Occupy Chicago plans 10 protest days. A May 12 “People’s Summit” will be followed by other events. Themes will highlight education, healthcare, the environment, immigration, other issues, and imperialism. On May 20, a “No to NATO” march is scheduled.

“We at Occupy Chicago,” it said, “cordially invite you to join us and thousands around the world in a week of action in protest. We will highlight the connection between our local struggles, global struggles, and the policies of the thieves and oppressors of NATO and G-8.”

Before things end, Chicago could become a battleground. Protesters stress nonviolence. Chicago cops are notoriously confrontational. In his 1990 book “Protectors of Privilege: Red Squads and Police Repression in Urban America,” Frank Donner called the city “the national capital of police repression” for good reason.

No-holds barred tactics are used. Illegal criminal methods include physical confrontation, intimidation, random searches, false arrests, racial targeting, sexual abuse, guerrilla warfare, torture, and whitewashed investigations. Thousands of complaints are lodged. Most fall on deaf ears.

Chicago is NATO’s 25th summit. It’s a first for Chicago. It may be the city’s greatest ever security challenge. Before it ends, violent crackdowns may exceed past large events.

Three main themes are stressed:

  1. “the Alliance’s commitment to Aghanistan through transition and beyond;
  2. ensuring the Alliance has the capabilities it needs to defend its population and territory, and to deal with the challenges of the 21st century; and
  3. strengthening NATO’s network of partners across the globe.”

NATO commits to supporting Afghanistan beyond 2014. Permanent occupation is planned. It’s the same wherever it shows up.

Washington wants it modernized, alliance partnerships deepened, and perhaps new members added. National Security Council European affairs director Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall said:

“The alliance needs to be more deployable and more adaptable, and we’re taking those lessons learned from Afghanistan and integrating them into our planning going forward.”

NATO also intends expansion beyond its borders. It plans building a “hub of relationships around the world.” Meeting “the challenge of (alleged) global threats” assures new wars besides current ones.

NATO’s an US imperial tool. Permanent wars are waged. One follows another. All involve mass killing, destruction, and enormous profits for corporate crooks cashing in. Geopolitical issues don’t concern them, just bottom line priorities. America’s addiction to war feeds them.

When established in April 1949, NATO called itself a “political and military alliance for peace and security.” It was always for offense, not defense. Cold War hysteria incited fear to assure an arms race for profits. Reinvented post-Soviet Russia, they keep flowing.

Its original five members now number 28. They’re linked with dozens of partners. Together they threaten world peace, stability, and survival.

Bogus threats justify NATO’s existence. With no real ones around, they’re invented. Wars are based on lies. Profits depend on them. Peace is a losing proposition. Preventing it at all costs is planned.

Ahead of and during Chicago’s summit, the city will be locked down and militarized. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and police officials plan targeting strategic areas in preparation.

In January, City Council representatives enacted a “Sit Down and Shut Up” ordinance. It includes required protester group liability insurance, fines up to $2,000 for those arrested, jail time penalties, strict permit guidelines, plans to deploy thousands of police and National Guard forces, and various other requirements.

One demands organizers provide descriptions of “any sound amplification or other equipment that is on wheels or too large to be carried by one person and description of the size and dimension of any sign, banner, or other attention-getting device that is too large to be carried by one person, to be used in connection with the parade.”

“Second to none” is Chicago’s newest tourism slogan. Before and during NATO’s summit, it may turn out that way, but not as planned.

Activists fear it may become a level of hell Dante forgot. Longtime residents hope not. We’ll still live here when NATO’s gone, and don’t relish coping with its aftermath.

The “U.S.” House of Representatives Again Promotes IsraHell Over America

Eric Cantor speaking at the American Israel Public Affairs convention.

by Bob Johnson

In yet another sickening display of gutless obedience to the Israel lobby and the Jewish dominated media, the “U.S.” House of Representatives has passed legislation which promotes Israel’s interests over the interests of America and Americans by passing the United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012.

This treasonous bill was sponsored by Zionist and Israel-firster Eric Cantor and Goy Boy Steny Hoyer. Only two Congressmen voted against it, Ron Paul and John Dingell!

Ron Paul, who draws thousands of people to his presidential campaign rallies  but who is virtually blocked-out by the kosher (I use kosher very objectively and honestly which requires strong negative connotations because it is based on nonsense, it causes inhumane treatment of animals and it puts BILLIONS of dollars in the pockets of rabbis and is just another religious scam)  media, openly defied the powerful Israel lobby regarding this unconstitutional bill. Paul said, “This bill states that it is the policy of the United States to ‘reaffirm the enduring commitment of the United States to the security of the State of Israel as a Jewish state.’ However, according to our Constitution the policy of the United States government should be to protect the security of the United States, not to guarantee the religious, ethnic, or cultural composition of a foreign country. In fact, our own Constitution prohibits the establishment of any particular religion in the US.” This violation of the Constitution’s principle of separation of church and state should be pursued in efforts to stop foreign aid handouts to Israel.

A similar version of the bill is in the “U.S.” Senate and will be voted on soon. Israel owns not only the “U.S.” House of Representatives, but also the “U.S.” Senate and the White House. The passage of the similar bill in the Senate should have no trouble being passed. Especially with rabid pro-Israel senators the likes of Chuck Schumer. Schumer is under the delusion that God put him in the “U.S.” Senate so he could protect the Jewish state of Israel. Schumer openly said on a Jewish radio program, “”You know, my name …. comes from the word shomer, guardian, watcher. My ancestors were guardians of the ghetto wall in Chortkov. And I believe Hashem (God) actually gave me that name. One of my roles, very important in the United States senate, is to be a shomer — to be a or the shomer Yisrael. And I will continue to be that with every bone in my body … ”

As the warmongering nuclear armed state of Israel and its sell-outs in the “U.S.” Congress and White House move the world towards another unnecessary war for a Greater Israel, we need to figure out how to strike at the root of this deadly problem before it is too late. It appears that the American founder and Deist, Thomas Paine, gave us the answer in his eye-opening and powerful book, The Age of Reason, The Complete Edition. In this book he called for a revolution in religion based on our God-given reason and Deism. If we do that all the entanglements between Israel and the U.S. would be struck with a powerful blow at their most fundamental level. This would eventually forever correct this ancient, destructive and unnecessary problem.
