Morons, Inc–Lieutenant General Jerry Boykin says Dearborn, Michigan ‘governed by Sharia law’

article image

Over the weekend, Lieutenant General Jerry Boykin (retired) was interviewed on a radio program (audio below) out of Bakersfield, California ahead of a scheduled appearance at a local church to discuss his anti-Islam conspiracy theories.

During the interview, Lieutenant General Boykin warned listeners that every serious Muslim was determined to enshrine Sharia law wherever they lived and that they were making great progress in establishing it in America.

This prompted one of the co-hosts to ask Lieutenant General Boykin about Dearborn, Michigan which he claimed was “almost one hundred percent Muslim and operating under Sharia law now.”

Lieutenant General Boykin agreed: “If you walk down the streets, you would think you were in Beirut or Damascus.”

Tribune columnist under review for speaking fees from MEK

Chicago Tribune
The Chicago Tribune is reviewing an unauthorized paid speaking engagement by its Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Clarence Page at an event supporting an Iranian group designated as a terrorist organization.

Page, a member of the Tribune editorial board, received $20,000 and was given travel expenses for the June 23 event in Paris, which was sponsored by a group called the Organizing Committee for Convention for Democracy in Iran. It turned out to be a large rally in support of the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq, a controversial organization that has been engaged in a high-profile campaign to be removed from the U.S. government’s list of terrorist groups.

Page, who joined paid speakers such as former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, said he had misgivings soon after arriving at the event, when he realized the scope was more than just a discussion about human rights and fairness toward Iranian exiles, as he previously thought. He went through with his three-minute speech anyway.

“I figured it must be a reputable gathering,” Page said. “It wasn’t until I got over there that I began to question whether this was more of a partisan affair than I had thought before.”

The story was first reported by nonprofit ProPublica on Monday. Page told the reporter he was planning to give the money back because of his misgivings about the nature of the event. The Washington-based Page then called the Tribune’s editorial page editor, Bruce Dold, to fill him in.

Beyond the ramifications of a controversial political association, accepting the engagement was a breach of the Tribune’s code of editorial principles. Although some paid speaking engagements are allowed, all editorial employees need approval before accepting them, Dold said. Page said he took the engagement on his own.

“It was a violation of policy,” Dold said. “A speaking fee must be approved in advance by a manager, and he did not seek approval on this, and you can’t accept a speaking fee from any organization with a special interest group or a publicity interest. If approval had been sought, it would have been denied.”

“Page will return the honorarium and expense money,” Gerould Kern, senior vice president and editor of the Tribune, said in a statement. “We are reviewing all of the circumstances and considering further action.”

In the eyes of the State Department, the MEK is a foreign terrorist organization. In the 1970s, the group killed several U.S. military personnel and civilians in Iran and, until Iraq’s former regime crumbled in 2003, it was an integral part of Saddam Hussein’s repressive security apparatus.

In recent years, the group has been waging a public relations battle, trying to convince the American military that it supports Washington’s larger interests in the region — namely, the demise of the Islamist regime in Iran.

The group was placed on the list in 1997 by the administration of President Bill Clinton, according to the ProPublica report. A federal appeals court last month ordered the State Department to decide within four months whether the MEK should remain on the list.

Page said he has accepted about seven compensated speaking engagements in the past 18 months. The most he has ever received as a speaker’s fee was about $7,000. Most are also far less controversial — journalism panels, colleges and an upcoming American Bar Association event in Washington. But Page said he hasn’t sought approval for any paid speaking engagement in the past three years.

“For years I got approval upfront. I just let things lapse and I am sorry about it,” Page said. “If I had been more diligent, this kind of situation would not have happened.”

Dear Friends,

Just 4 items tonight.  I’m sure that there is more news, but I didn’t get to it today.  Sorry.  Maybe this will allow you to read more of Today in Palestine.

Item 1 is serious: Israel is beginning to officially expropriate Palestinian land in the West Bank.  Of course this should surprise no one.  All of Israel sits on land that was formerly Palestinian.  So why not the West Bank? And note, the Palestinians have no recourse.  Settlements will be officially registered, but Palestinians will not have the right to complain.  Imagine someone coming to your house, taking it and your land, then registering it on his/her name, and, lastly, informing you that you cannot take this to court.  It’s done.  It’s theirs, and there is nothing that you can do about it.  Someone who read this exclaimed, ‘but that’s not democratic.’  True. But Israel is not nor ever has been democratic.  It is ethnocratic not democratic.  And all the land it ‘owns’ was not so long ago someone else’s.

Item 2 is positive news.  The PCUSA “Committee 15 of the 220th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church voted in favor of a motion calling for divestment from  Motorola, for providing surveillance equipment for Israeli settlements, Caterpillar, for providing bulldozers used for demolishing Palestinian houses, and Hewlett-Packard, for selling hardware used by Israel in its naval blockade of Gaza.”  Let us hope that the General Assembly will follow suit.

Item 3 is a brief video that was shown on Israeli TV last night.  One Israeli border policeman grabs a 9 year old Palestinian child in Hebron, and while the policeman holds the child on the ground, another border policeman comes and kicks the boy.

Item 4 is Today in Palestine for July 2, 2012.

Israel to begin recording settler land claims, deny Palestinians’ right of appeal

Documents obtained by Haaretz indicate that new land registry process, which would bypass regular tabu [the present ownership registration process in Israel proper] listings, is official policy, with repercussions reviewed by top officials.

After 45 years of running the West Bank, the State of Israel plans to start compiling land registry records of assets controlled by settlers. The registry would bypass regular tabu land-listing processes, and appears designed to prevent Palestinians from appealing the validity of the ownership listings.

Documents obtained by Haaretz indicate that this land registry process comes as official policy whose “legal and diplomatic repercussions” have been reviewed by top officials. The registry process is supported by deputy attorney general Mike Blass, along with Defense Ministry legal adviser Ahaz Ben-Ari, Civil Administration head Brig. Gen. Moti Almoz and Defense Ministry settlement adviser Eitan Broshi. The registry process is expected to receive Defense Minister Ehud Barak’s approval later in the month.

The need for such a land registry process grows out of Israel’s continued control of the West Bank. In 1967, when IDF forces first occupied the territories, land ownership arrangements enforced by the Jordanians became void. To justify the lack of a formal land ownership registry process, Israel claimed that the occupation in the territories was temporary, whereas such a land registry is a permanent procedure. There was an option of registering land under existing tabu rules from the Ottoman era – but the state cannot initiate such registration processes. The processes can be initiated only by an individual, who is supposed to bring documents that attest to his ownership of the property; property owners in the vicinity are also supposed to be notified of the tabu registry request. Subsequently a review committee convenes to discuss the evidence, compile witness testimony, receive objections, and ultimately announce registration decisions.

Jewish settlements in the territories were established on lands originally “occupied for military reasons” that were subsequently classified as “state lands.” For various reasons lands in the territories were not transferred to settler ownership; instead, the settlers were given authorization to reside on them. Under this procedure, the “official responsible for government property” provides “permission” to the World Zionist Organization, or to a housing company, to make use of the land. These entities have no rights to make tabu land registry listings.

After the passage of time, some of the housing companies are currently on the verge of dissolution, and want to bring a halt to current land listing arrangements in the territories. For instance, with regard to the Oranit settlement in 2008, the Delta company, which built the community, announced that it did not intend to make listings of land transactions. Some residents submitted court claims, demanding that Delta compile such listings. The state claimed that Delta was obliged to make these listings. In discussions held by the Civil Administration in this Oranit case, officials entertained the possibility of initiating tabu registration processes in which all historic events that transpired in the area would be put under review – the ways in which the land was classified and allocated would be investigated.

As part of this tabu registration process, Palestinians would be able to submit objections to land registry requests, and their objections could further complicate Israeli attempts to build settlements on privately owned land in the territories.

As a result of this complication, deputy attorney general Blass sponsored a series of consultations. He instructed the civil administration to carry out an orderly process of land registration, one conducted in lieu of the ordinary tabu procedure and designed to recognize settler land rights.

Blass’ authorization relies on an IDF order issued in 1974; up to now, this order has been invoked just once, to authorize multi-story construction in Kiryat Arba in the 1980s. Under this order, the “recorder” can carry out land asset registration processes in “certain cases”; the recorder’s decisions constitute “decisive proof” of an individual’s right to a property.

The defense ministry responds: “This is a problem that has been known to the legal and security system for some time. Due to a request submitted by a number of authorities, including the Oranit council, defense ministry experts, in conjunction with authorities from other agencies, have held a preliminary review of the subject. This review has yet to generate a recommendation for submission to the political leadership.”

U.S. Presbetyrian Church votes in favor of Israel boycott resolution

Vote at assembly in Pennsylvania could be a sign that discourse among U.S. Christians on Israel is about to change, final vote to be held in the coming days.

Israel boycott Following a lengthy and heated debate, committee 15 of the 220th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States voted in favor of a motion calling for divestment from three companies that do business with Israel.

Whether or not the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement against Israel is gaining traction is one of the hottest questions being asked among the most politically active members of the Jewish community – as many people take the issue to heart.

Israel supporters claim that the numbers of participants in the annual “Israel apartheid” week have not grown significantly, and that the American Methodist and Presbyterian Churches, despite regularly raising the topic of divesting from companies that “profit from Israeli occupation,” generally end up voting against it.  The discourse is shifting – and not in Israel’s favor.

In 2008, the United Methodist Church (UMC) rejected an Israel divestment resolution. On May 2, the UMC general conference did it again, rejecting a resolution calling for divestment from three companies doing business with Israel (although the conference did adopt a measure recommending a boycott of products made in Israeli settlement).

This week, the topic was raised again in Pittsburgh, at the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church. Last time, the resolution didn’t even pass the committee level, let alone the general vote.

This time, something different happened. Committee 15 of the 220th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church voted in favor of a motion calling for divestment from  Motorola, for providing surveillance equipment for Israeli settlements, Caterpillar, for providing bulldozers used for demolishing Palestinian houses, and Hewlett-Packard, for selling hardware used by Israel in its naval blockade of Gaza.

The motion also called for the church to increase investments in companies promoting peaceful pursuits. The final vote is expected at the general assembly later this week.

Rev. Dr. Walt Davis, Co-Chair of the Israel/Palestine Mission Network, called the decision “an encouraging step”.

“We hope plenary voters will follow the lead of Committee 15 and the recommendations of the Mission Responsibility Through Investing committee and support divestment from these companies that are profiting from Israel’s violations of Palestinian human rights. It’s been a long and thorough process and it’s finally time for the church to stop profiting from the suffering the peoples of the Holy Land,” said Davis.

But during Monday evening’s debate, there were also concerns expressed over the possible impact of the decision on the relations with the Jewish community – and other sectors of the American Christian community.

Weeks before the general assembly opened on June 30, the proposal drew sharp criticism and warnings from Jewish American organizations, with the exception of those on the far left, such as the Jewish Voice for Peace. Over 1,300 Rabbis and over 12,000 American Jews signed letters to delegates of the biennial Presbyterian Church General Assembly, calling them to reject the “counterproductive” resolution.

In response, the Anti-Defamation League warned of the negative effect on the Jewish and American Christian relations. The American Jewish Committee called the resolutions generally put to votes every two years at the Presbyterian Church gatherings “an unfortunate tradition” meant to vilify Israel and adopt positions of “non-representative” Palestinian leaders.

Even Jeremy Ben-Ami, President of the leftist pro-Israeli lobby JStreet, wrote an article titled “Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Put Allies at Odds.”

“In our view, the one-sided, extreme rhetoric that accompanies the global BDS movement makes a mutually agreeable solution more difficult to achieve, not less” wrote Ben-Ami, stressing that he hopes that PCUSA “will avoid this unproductive path,”

Ben-Ami added, “even the limited divestment approach under consideration by PCUSA falls under the rubric of larger BDS efforts to place blame entirely on one side of the conflict. Such an approach encourages not reconciliation, but polarization.”

Some members of the general assembly committee that discussed the motion in Pittsburg said they do not understand why the resolution is interpreted as a threat – they insisted it’s a moral issue, certainly not an anti-Semitic one, to stop pouring resources “into hurting people in another country.”

“There’s violence happening here. Someone is profiting from it. And we need to not be a part of that,” said one of the Committee members.

Jibril: Palestinians, Iran, Hezbollah to Defend Syria if Attacked

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Palestinian leader underlined preparedness of Palestinian groups, Lebanon’s Hezbollah Movement and Iran to help Syria in case the Muslim country is attacked by the western states.

“The Syrian government is powerful internally but if foreign elements want to invade (Syria),

we will be part of this battle and we have discussed it with our brothers in Syria, with (Hezbollah

chief) Seyed Hassan Nasrallah and our brothers in Iran,” Secretary-General of the Popular Front

for the Liberation of Palestine (PLFP) Ahmed Jibril told the Beirut-based Mayadeen television on

Jibril said that if a “Turkish-European alliance or NATO escalate… we will take to the streets and fight beside all those honorable people and our Syrian brothers.”

Jibril also cited Nasrallah as saying Hezbollah would fight beside Syria, and described the Iran-Syria-Hezbollah alliance as one axis that the PFLP is part of.

He added that he met recently with Nasrallah, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, without specifying the times of the meetings.

He also noted that the Hezbollah chief “said he would join this battle, in the event of a foreign attack” on Syria.

Jebril reiterated that the Iranian government has also told him it would not allow a strike on Syria. “We have warned the Turks several times not to play with fire,” Jibril said.

He also said that the 16-month unrest against Assad was not a genuine local movement, but rather “a change in the foundations of this region in order to create a new Middle East”, referring to the 2006 remarks by former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Jibril described the defense of Syria against foreign attacks as “a decisive battle.” Victory would be necessary, he said, in order to “defeat the American and Zionist projects”.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.

In October, calm was eventually restored in the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies are seeking hard to bring the country into chaos through any possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots in the hope of increasing unrests in Syria.

Putin Demands War on Iran

Netanyahu says Russia and Israel on same page over Iran threat

In extremely brief statement, Putin says Jerusalem and Moscow share ‘friendly ties’

By Aaron Kalman and Stuart Winer – Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday said he and visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin see eye to eye on the dangers of Iran’s nuclear weapons program.   The two leaders met for over an hour in Jerusalem and discussed Iran, Syria, Egypt and bilateral ties.

“We agree that nuclear weapons in the hands of Iran would be a danger to Israel, the region and the whole world,” Netanyahu said during a post-meeting press conference.

Putin acknowledged that the talks covered Iran and the uprising in Syria, but added that he saw negotiations as the only solution for such matters.

The Russian leader made a brief statement following the meeting, saying his visit served to reinforce relations between the countries.

Protector of Syria and Iran

“My arrival in Israel has strengthened my belief that there exists between us friendly ties and not just words,” Putin said.

Putin also said that in his opinion the spread of democracy in the Middle East should be allowed to go ahead without outside influence.

The meeting was also attended by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman, and National Security Adviser Yaakov Amidror.

“You have come at a time when there are great changes in the region,” Netanyahu said during the press conference, calling once again for the world to take action against Iran’s nuclear program.

The meeting was part of Putin’s first visit to Israel since 2005. After arriving Monday morning, the Russian president joined President Shimon Peres for the unveiling of a memorial site honoring the soldiers of the Red Army who were killed during World War II.

Putin is scheduled to travel to the Palestinian Authority and Jordan on Monday night, where he is to meet with Arab leaders Tuesday.

Netanyahu asked Putin to take a personal message to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

”I am prepared to meet Abbas. Either I will go to him or he can come to me,” Netanyahu said. “Please deliver that simple message during your meeting in Bethlehem.”

The prime minister remarked on the ever-improving ties between Russia and Israel, covering everything from technology to tourism.

Russia’s Rulers Under Putin

“There are a million Russian-speaking Israelis and they form a living bridge between Russia and Israel,” Netanyahu said. “There are many that cross it. Last year half a million Russian tourists came to Israel.”

In the past, Putin has called Israel a Russian-speaking country.

Earlier, Barak commented on Putin’s visit during a meeting of his Atzmaut party at the Knesset, Maariv reported.

“Putin’s visit is very important, and Russia is an important world power, the world power closest to our region and to our borders,” he said.

After drawing attention to Russia’s influence on developments in Syria during recent decades Barak speculated on the part it will have in the current dramatic events of Israel’s northern neighbor.

“She [Russia] will have an important role in stabilizing Syria the day after Assad,” Barak said and added that Russia also has great importance in the international efforts against Iran, both in diplomacy and in sanctions.

Putin a Puppet of Chabad-Lubavitch Sect

New Russian Helmet?

True or false ?… Vladimirovitch Shalomov (real name) Putin

The main figures in Putin’s government are almost exclusively crypto-Jews. The core of this fifth column are Orthodox Jews, often known as the Hasidim. There are several strands of Hasidism, but the dominant sect is Chabad Lubavitch.

Its essence is an aggressive, militant extremism in favor of Judaism based on grounds of the Talmud, a peculiar form of geopolitics states Rabbi Eduard Hodos head of the Kharkov Jewish community and supposedly staunch ‘enemy’ of the Chabad Lubavitch sect.

He said the sinister workings of this sect, hidden from the Gentiles, were known to him since the nineties when Chabad began a vigorous penetration of Russia. We remember how in 1968 its Zionist Masonic Lodge of Rome planned to reduce the human population by half, and “assigned” fifteen million to Poland. Meanwhile, Chabad Lubavitch calls for reducing the human population to 600 million non-Jews, while the total number of the Jewish Diaspora is officially estimated at around 13 million . . .

Chabad Lubavitch has a secret influence in the super-elite Committee of 300” through which to engineer the “Holocaust” of mankind. Genocidal, extremist ideologies, supported by the Chabad Jewish financiers and aggressive racist Zionism will be lethal for 99 percent of humanity. In outside talks with the Gentiles the Chabad mercifully increased the number of surviving Gentiles to one billion, but privately they say about 600 thousand Goyim, of whom only about twenty thousand should enjoy relative freedom, prosperity and a clean environment. Chabad is now the dominant force of the Jewish Diaspora on top of the pyramid of Jewish elites; Gentiles in general do not count.

Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters is located in New York. One of the key figures of Chabad is a former Vice President Al Gore, whose father was once a friend of the famous Armand Hammer, and his friend, “Lenin.” The main book of the Chabad is Tania,” based on The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” and which Eduard Hodos calls the second “Mein Kampf.”

Their clearly defined goal was to entice and make Jewish-Russian hybrids employed in the structures of real power ardent followers of Chabad, vigorously supporting their careers and promotion. In this regard Chabad were ready to sacrifice their ideological dogmas and turn a blind eye to the lack of purity of blood. In contrast, to non-Jews the issue was simple–money [bribes]. Taking into account that from the time of opening of [Russia’s] borders, the Russian society did not have a currency while members of the “Committee of 300″ held substantial foreign funds which Chabad used to purchase Russian real estate [for nothing] . . .

The Head of Chabad in Russia Berl Lazar (left) said: Never before has any Russian or Soviet leader done so much for Jews, as Vladimir Putin. In every respect it is unprecedented. In talks with me Ariel Sharon repeatedly emphasized that the Kremlin is the greatest friend of Jews and of Israel. Now, many mayors of Russian cities, provincial heads and ministers are Jewish. This became the norm . . . (Henry Pajak, “The Last Transport to Katyn 10 04 2010,” Chapter IX, p. 280–283). Full story: Netanyahu says Russia and Israel on same page over Iran threat.

Comment: For a full appreciation of the above story I recommend you read the translation in Google translate, or Alta Vista, or similar, and read this English article Clearly the international banksters have financed Jewry to take over the Russian Federation and they financed their takeover of Germany with the Weimar Republic after WWI.

New legislation exempts Zio-Nazi security forces from documenting investigation of terror suspects

According to the existing law, investigations of offenses that may result in punishment of more than 10 years must be filmed or recorded.

Despite opposition of human rights groups, the Knesset’s Constitution, Law and Justice Committee approved on Tuesday an extension of temporary legislation exempting the Shin Bet from documenting investigations of suspected security offenders.

According to the existing law, investigations of offenses that may result in punishment of more than 10 years must be filmed or recorded. But the temporary legislation, which was extended by three years before expiring at midnight on Tuesday, allows an exemption of security investigations over the past nine years.

The written explanation of the need for the temporary legislation extension stated that “in the special circumstances of security investigations that deal with organized extremist terror organizations, such documentation may significantly damage the quality and actual possibility of such investigations, thus hampering the capability of dealing with terror threats.”

Representatives of the Shin Bet told the committee that according to their professional legal advice, such legislation should be permanent. Due to the opposition of ministers Dan Meridor and Michael Eitan, the government agreed to extend the exemption by two years, until a new terror law is formulated.

The Shin Bet’s head of investigation department, who participated in the debate, explained that “Shin Bet investigations are documented and reviewed from beginning to end. We are not discussing human rights, but protection of investigation methods. The exemption is necessary since our enemies learn our investigation methods.”

Representatives of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) and the Public Defender’s Office opposed the extension, insisted that there is utmost importance in such documentation. Attorney Layla Margalit of ACRI and Rachel Daniely of the Public Defender’s Office argued that the exemption request for all security investigations is unbalanced and too comprehensive.

ACRI submitted a document to the committee explaining the utmost importance of documenting security investigations, not only for the purpose of guaranteeing the credibility of confessions, but also for promising a proper investigation and preventing unacceptable investigation methods.

The document added that “suspects under arrest are the main group of people exposed to the danger of humiliating or inhuman treatment, and physical or mental violence which could at times amount to torture… documenting security investigations could help deal with complaints of improper treatment or torture during security investigations and could be an objective source as to what happens during investigations, supporting or refuting suspects’ claims in these matters.”

“Jewish Ethnic Networking” Lies behind Jewish Supremacist Power

By Professor Kevin MacDonald.

Jewish ethnic networking is a critical source of Jewish power, ranging from the worlds of art, literature and the media discussed here to the rise of the undistinguished Elena Kagan to Supreme Court justice (fueled by Larry Summers who rescued her from her status as an  unemployed academic with a non-existent publication record to Dean of the Harvard Law School), to business networks, and the intellectual world.

Where would Freud have been without his legion of Jewish backers within the psychoanalytic movement and in the media?

Jewish ethnic networking is the subtext not only of the sacrosanct position of Israel in the US media. It is also the subtext of the rise to dominance of the culture of critique and all that that entails in terms of multiculturalism and non-White immigration.

We all accept a certain amount of ethnic networking as normal and natural—Jews are simply better at it than most.

The problem comes when this ethnic networking creates an elite that is hostile to the traditional people and culture of the West or results in loyalty to Israel as the Jewish ethnostate at the expense of the best interests of the United States or other Western countries. Such an elite has no legitimacy, moral or otherwise.

Jewish media ownership and control is a major arena for Jewish ethnic networking, especially noticeable at high-prestige, influential publications such as The New Yorker.

As a result, Jewish writers are promoted not as Israeli writers, but as part of the Western literary canon. Soon to be featured in college courses and made into movies.

The WWII Dresden Holocaust—‘A Single Column of Flame’

“You guys burnt the place down, turned it into a single column of flame. More people died there in the firestorm, in that one big flame, than died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined.” –Kurt Vonnegut, Jr

On the evening of February 13, 1945, an orgy of genocide and barbarism began against a defenseless German city, one of the greatest cultural centers of northern Europe. Within less than 14 hours not only was it reduced to flaming ruins, but an estimated one-third of its inhabitants, possibly as many as a half a million, had perished in what was the worst single event massacre of all time.

Toward the end of World War II, as Allied planes rained death and destruction over Germany, the old Saxon city of Dresden lay like an island of tranquillity amid desolation. Famous as a cultural center and possessing no military value, Dresden had been spared the terror that descended from the skies over the rest of the country.

In fact, little had been done to provide the ancient city of artists and craftsmen with anti-aircraft defenses. One squadron of planes had been stationed in Dresden for awhile, but the Luftwaffe decided to move the aircraft to another area where they would be of use. A gentlemen’s agreement seemed to prevail, designating Dresden an “open city.”

February 13/14 1945: Holocaust over Dresden, known as the Florence of the North. Dresden was a hospital city for wounded soldiers. Not one military unit, not one anti-aircraft battery was deployed in the city. Together with the 600.000 refugees from Breslau, Dresden was filled with nearly 1.2 million people. Churchill had asked for “suggestions how to blaze 600.000 refugees”. He wasn’t interested how to target military installations 60 miles outside of Dresden. More than 700.000 phosphorus bombs were dropped on 1.2 million people. One bomb for every 2 people. The temperature in the centre of the city reached 1600 o centigrade. More than 260.000 bodies and residues of bodies were counted. But those who perished in the centre of the city can’t be traced. Approximately 500.000 children, women, the elderly, wounded soldiers and the animals of the zoo were slaughtered in one night.

On Shrove Tuesday, February 13, 1945, a flood of refugees fleeing the Red Army 60 miles away had swollen the city’s population to well over a million. Each new refugee brought fearful accounts of Soviet atrocities. Little did those refugees retreating from the Red terror imagine that they were about to die in a horror worse than anything Stalin could devise.

Normally, a carnival atmosphere prevailed in Dresden on Shrove Tuesday. In 1945, however, the outlook was rather dismal. Houses everywhere overflowed with refugees, and thousands were forced to camp out in the streets shivering in the bitter cold.

However, the people felt relatively safe; and although the mood was grim, the circus played to a full house that night as thousands came to forget for a moment the horrors of war. Bands of little girls paraded about in carnival dress in an effort to bolster warning spirits. Half-sad smiles greeted the laughing girls, but spirits were lifted.

No one realized that in less than 24 hours those same innocent children would die screaming in Churchill’s firestorms. But, of course, no one could know that then. The Russians, to be sure, were savages, but at least the Americans and British were “honorable.”

So, when those first alarms signaled the start of 14 hours of hell, Dresden’s people streamed dutifully into their shelters. But they did so without much enthusiasm, believing the alarms to be false, since their city had never been threatened from the air. Many would never come out alive, for that “great democratic statesman,” Winston Churchill–in collusion with that other “great democratic statesman,” Franklin Delano Roosevelt–had decided that the city of Dresden was to be obliterated by saturation bombing.

What where Churchill’s motives? They appear to have been political, rather than military. Historians unanimously agree that Dresden had no military value. What industry it did have produced only cigarettes and china.

But the Yalta Conference was coming up, in which the Soviets and their Western allies would sit down like ghouls to carve up the shattered corpse of Europe. Churchill wanted a trump card–a devastating “thunderclap of Anglo-American annihilation”–with which to “impress” Stalin.

That card, however, was never played at Yalta, because bad weather delayed the originally scheduled raid. Yet Churchill insisted that the raid be carried out–to “disrupt and confuse” the German civilian population behind the lines.

Dresden’s citizens barely had time to reach their shelters. The first bomb fell at 10:09 p.m. The attack lasted 24 minutes, leaving the inner city a raging sea of fire. “Precision saturation bombing” had created the desired firestorm.

Afirestorm is caused when hundreds of smaller fires join in one vast conflagration. Huge masses of air are sucked in to feed the inferno, causing an artificial tornado. Those persons unlucky enough to be caught in the rush of wind are hurled down entire streets into the flames. Those who seek refuge underground often suffocate as oxygen is pulled from the air to feed the blaze, or they perish in a blast of white heat–heat intense enough to melt human flesh.

One eyewitness who survived told of seeing “young women carrying babies running up and down the streets, their dresses and hair on fire, screaming until they fell down, or the collapsing buildings fell on top of them.”

There was a three-hour pause between the first and second raids. The lull had been calculated to lure civilians from their shelters into the open again. To escape the flames, tens of thousands of civilians had crowded into the Grosser Garten, a magnificent park nearly one and a half miles square.

The second raid came at 1:22 a.m. with no warning. Twice as many bombers returned with a massive load of incendiary bombs. The second wave was designed to spread the raging firestorm into the Grosser Garten.

It was a complete “success.” Within a few minutes a sheet of flame ripped across the grass, uprooting trees and littering the branches of others with everything from bicycles to human limbs. For days afterward, they remained bizarrely strewn about as grim reminders of Allied sadism.

At the start of the second air assault, many were still huddled in tunnels and cellars, waiting for the fires of the first attack to die down. At 1:30 a.m. an ominous rumble reached the ears of the commander of a Labor Service convoy sent into the city on a rescue mission. He described it this way:

“The detonation shook the cellar walls. The sound of the explosions mingled with a new, stranger sound which seemed to come closer and closer, the sound of a thundering waterfall; it was the sound of the mighty tornado howling in the inner city.”

Others hiding below ground died. But they died painlessly–they simply glowed bright orange and blue in the darkness. As the heat intensified, they either disintegrated into cinders or melted into a thick liquid–often three or four feet deep in spots.

Shortly after 10:30 on the morning of February 14, the last raid swept over the city. American bombers pounded the rubble that had been Dresden for a steady 38 minutes. But this attack was not nearly as heavy as the first two.

However, what distinguished this raid was the cold-blooded ruthlessness with which it was carried out. U.S. Mustangs appeared low over the city, strafing anything that moved, including a column of rescue vehicles rushing to the city to evacuate survivors. One assault was aimed at the banks of the Elbe River, where refugees had huddled during the horrible night.

In the last year of the war, Dresden had become a hospital town. During the previous night’s massacre, heroic nurses had dragged thousands of crippled patients to the Elbe. The low-flying Mustangs machine-gunned those helpless patients, as well as thousands of old men, women and children who had escaped the city.

When the last plane left the sky, Dresden was a scorched ruin, its blackened streets filled with corpses. The city was spared no horror. A flock of vultures escaped from the zoo and fattened on the carnage. Rats swarmed over the piles of corpses.

A Swiss citizen described his visit to Dresden two weeks after the raid: “I could see torn-off arms and legs, mutilated torsos and heads which had been wrenched from their bodies and rolled away. In places the corpses were still lying so densely that I had to clear a path through them in order not to tread on arms and legs.”

Kurt Vonnegut was in Dresden when it was bombed in 1945, and wrote a famous anti-war novel, Slaughterhouse Five, in 1969.

In February 1945, Vonnegut was witness to another pretty good imitation of Mt Vesuvius; the firebombing by Allied forces of Dresden, the town in eastern Germany, during the last months of the Second World War. More than 600,000 incen-diary bombs later, the city looked more like the surface of the moon. Returning home to Indianapolis after the war, Vonnegut began writing short stories for magazines such as Collier’s and The Saturday Evening Post, and, seven years later, published his first novel, Player Piano. …

Finally, in 1969, he tackled the subject of war, recounting his experiences as a POW in Dresden, forced to dig corpses from the rubble. The resulting novel was Slaughterhouse Five. Banned in several US states – and branded a “tool of the devil” in North Dakota – it carried the snappy alternative title: “The Children’s Crusade: A Duly Dance with Death, by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr, a fourth-generation German-American now living in easy circumstances on Cape Cod (and smoking too much) who, as an American infantry scout hors de combat, as a prisoner of war, witnessed the fire bombing of Dresden, Germany – the Florence of the Elbe – a long time ago, and survived to tell the tale: this is a novel somewhat in the telegraphic schizopfrenic manner of tales of the planet Tralfamodre, where the flying saucers come from, Peace.” ….

In December 1944, Vonnegut was captured by the German army and became a prisoner of war. In Slaughterhouse Five, he describes how he narrowly escaped death a few months later in the firebombing of Dresden. “Yes, by your people [the English], may I say,” he insists. “You guys burnt the place down, turned it into a single column of flame. More people died there in the firestorm, in that one big flame, than died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. I’m fond of your people, on occasion, but I was just thinking about ‘Bomber Harris, who believed in attacks on civilian populations to make them give up. A hell of a lot of Royal Air Force guys were ashamed of what Harris had made them do. And that’s really sportsmanship and, of course, the Brits are famous for being good sports,” he concedes.

The Independent, London, 20 December 2001, p. 19

The death toll was staggering. The full extent of the Dresden Holocaust can be more readily grasped if one considers that well over 250,000 — possibly as many as a half a million — persons died within a 14-hour period, whereas estimates of those who died at Hiroshima range from 90,000 to 140,000.*

Allied apologists for the massacre have often “twinned” Dresden with the English city of Coventry. But the 380 killed in Coventry during the entire war cannot begin to compare with over 1,000 times that number who were slaughtered in 14 hours at Dresden. Moreover, Coventry was a munitions center, a legitimate military target. Dresden, on the other hand, produced only china–and cups and saucers can hardly be considered military hardware!

It is interesting to further compare the respective damage to London and Dresden, especially when we recall all the Hollywood schmaltz about the “London blitz.” In one night, 1,600 acres of land were destroyed in the Dresden massacre. London escaped with damage to only 600 acres during the entire war.

In one ironic note, Dresden’s only conceivable military target — its railroad yards — was ignored by Allied bombers. They were too busy concentrating on helpless old men, women and children.

If ever there was a war crime, then certainly the Dresden Holocaust ranks as the most sordid one of all time. Yet there are no movies made today condemning this fiendish slaughter; nor did any Allied airman–or Sir Winston–sit in the dock at Nuremberg. In fact, the Dresden airmen were actually awarded medals for their role in this mass murder. But, of course, they could not have been tried, because there were “only following orders.”

This is not to say that the mountains of corpses left in Dresden were ignored by the Nuremberg Tribunal. In one final irony, the prosecution presented photographs of the Dresden dead as “evidence” of alleged National Socialist atrocities against Jewish concentration-camp inmates!

Churchill, the monster who ordered the Dresden slaughter, was knighted, and the rest is history. The cold-blooded sadism of the massacre, however, is brushed aside by his biographers, who still cannot bring themselves to tell how the desire of one madman to “impress” another one let to the mass murder of up to a half million men, women and children.
