On Tuesday 24 July, three days before the opening of the London 2012 Olympics FOA went to meet the Palestinian Olympic team in Hounslow on the day the Olympic flame arrived in the borough.
The memorable day was organised by The Hounslow-Ramallah Twinning Association (HRTA). They did a fantastic job facilitating the days event which included the opportunity for the Palestinian athletics coach, Majed Abu Marahil to officially present the Mayor of Hounslow a gift on behalf of the Palestinian team.
The team was given a lovely warm welcome by the residents of Hounslow at Lampton Park, with people lining up to take photographs with the team. Shamiul Joarder, Head of Public Affairs Friends of Al-Aqsa had the opportunity to spend several hours with the team.
He said ‘It was a great pleasure to spend time with the team. The whole team, the coaches and the athletes were so happy and proud to be in London representing Palestine and they were humbled by the level of public affection they received today. I hope everyone will put on their Palestine t-shirts, get out their flags and support Palestine this Summer. ‘
