LEST WE FORGET–U.S. tax dollars fund rabbi who excused killing gentile babies

NOVANEWS

The White House can blame itself the next time Israeli settlers torch a mosque near Nablus

Haaretz

The White House condemns the torching of a mosque, yet respectable Americans contribute to a yeshiva whose rabbi said it’s okay to kill gentile babies. It is no surprise that the American administration tacitly, if unenthusiastically, accepted the excuse that the map of national priority zones the cabinet approved on Sunday does not violate the decision to freeze construction in the settlements.

How can President Barack Obama object to furthering education in a settlement like Yitzhar, located in the heart of the West Bank? After all, his own tax revenues contribute to the flourishing of the Od Yosef Chai Shechem yeshiva, the settlement’s crowning glory.

This is the same yeshiva whose rabbi said it is permissible to kill gentile babies because of “the future danger that will arise if they are allowed to grow into evil people like their parents.” In his latest book, the head of the yeshiva, Yitzhak Shapira, who bears the honorable title of rabbi, even permits killing anyone “who, through his remarks and so forth, weakens our kingdom” (Obama, beware!).

On November 17, this column reported that the Education Ministry’s division for Torah institutions transferred more than NIS 1 million to this yeshiva in 2006 and 2007. The Welfare Ministry made do with a mere NIS 150,000.

A report on donations submitted by the yeshiva to the registrar of nonprofit organizations revealed that the American public also participates in financing the message coming out of Yitzhar. It states that in 2007 and 2008, the yeshiva received NIS 102,547 from an American foundation known as the Central Fund of Israel.

The American investigative reporter Philip Weiss says on his web site (mondoweiss.net) that money given to this fund is considered a tax-deductible donation. That means the thousands of shekels the fund sent to the settlement of Yitzhar were deducted from the donors’ annual tax payments to the American treasury.

According to the fund’s latest financial statement, it gave some $8 million to religious organizations in 2006, earmarked for establishing synagogues and schools, aiding the needy and “urgent security needs.”

The fund’s headquarters are located on the third floor of the Marcus Brothers Textiles store on Sixth Avenue in Manhattan. Its director is Jay Marcus, a resident of the settlement of Efrat.

His mother, Hadassah, is the fund’s president and his father, Arthur, is vice president. Both parents live in New York.

The Washington Post’s David Ignatius recently reported that according to statements filed with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, funds like that of the Marcus family sent some $33.4 million, tax free, to organizations affiliated with the settlements in 2004-07.

‘Large forces, extensive damage’

So the next time the White House spokesman condemns the torching of a mosque near Nablus, some reporter ought to ask him why respectable American citizens contribute to the Od Yosef Chai Shechem yeshiva, one of whose leading rabbis wrote the following incendiary words of incitement: “[Civil] Administration inspectors have not dared to enter Yitzhar since the freeze edict. Their experience with Yitzhar, and its heat, are responsible for the fact that every entry into the settlement by hostile elements requires large forces and ends with extensive damage to army and police equipment, even greater damage to Arab persons and property, and a region that continues to burn in every direction for several days” (Rabbi Yosef Elitzur, Hakol Hayehudi, December 4, 2009).

At the same time, U.S. officials could consider how a tax exemption for donors to Friends of Ateret Cohanim and The City of David jibes with official American policy regarding the presence of right-wing Jewish organizations in the heart of Palestinian neighborhoods in Jerusalem’s Holy Basin.

Human rights organizations and Jewish peace activists in the United States have started giving information to the authorities about foundations that support dubious right-wing organizations in Israel. They are asking why the administration only shuts down funds that send charitable donations to associations affiliated with Hamas.

Cut off from their families

Gilad Shalit’s prolonged isolation from the outside world is one of the most serious and justified complaints Israel has against his captors in Hamas’ leadership. But last week, Israel’s Supreme Court gave its stamp of approval to a prolonged lack of contact between hundreds of Palestinian prisoners and their parents, children and grandchildren.

For two and a half years, starting shortly after Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli authorities have barred relatives of more than 500 prisoners from entering Israeli territory.

But a panel of three justices unanimously rejected a petition from a group of prisoners and 13 human rights organizations that argued, among other things, that the Fourth Geneva Convention entitles every prisoner “to receive visitors, especially near relatives, at regular intervals and as frequently as possible.” Whenever possible, prisoners should be allowed to visit their homes in “urgent cases,” the convention adds.

The petitioners also noted that paragraph 1 of the Prisons Ordinance states that visits are one of the most important means of contact between the prisoner and his family and friends. A visit can make it easier for a prisoner to endure his confinement and encourage him in times of crisis.

Regular visits

Following a ruling by the European Court of Justice, the petition pointed out, Turkey allowed family members to pay weekly visits to Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the Kurdish PKK organization, whose death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment and who is detained under special security conditions.

But nevertheless, there is a difference. Unlike Gilad Shalit, who in three years has received only one or two letters from his parents, the Palestinian prisoners are visited regularly by the Red Cross and are in mail and telephone contact with their families.

On the other hand, unlike Hamas – which many countries define as a terrorist organization – Israel is committed to upholding international treaties and is supposed to abide by different humanitarian rules.

Israel is not an ally of the United States

NOVANEWS

NAZI Moshe Dayan

By Philip Giraldi

Sometimes it’s better to sleep in on Monday morning. I had carefully avoided two appearances on FOX and CBS by Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday morning talk shows but should have expected that the wisdom imparted by the great Israeli statesman would continue to resonate. Sure enough, the Washington Post featured a story describing Bibi’s disappointment that the Iranian nuclear program has not been destroyed since the election of Barack Obama. Netanyahu also threatened to take military action against Syria to seize its chemical weapons lest they fall into the hands of Hezbollah.

Okay, I get it, but the real kicker was the additional insights provided in the article. It explained “The comment by one of the nation’s closest allies–who has heavy political influence among the US electorate–hinted at a reproach of President Obama…” The article then notes that “Romney and the Israeli leader have a long friendship stemming from their brief overlap in the 1970s at Boston Consulting Group.” First of all, Israel is not an ally of the United States even if the statement is repeated ad nauseam.

Second, Bibi is the government leader of a foreign nation that has its own agenda which is contrary to US interests, something noted nowhere in the article. His heavy political influence in the US is asserted through the traitors in Congress and the media, and also via Pastor John Hagee, who would like to see the second coming of Christ, at which point all the Jews who do not convert will be killed. And finally, Netanyahu himself has denied any “long friendship” from the “brief overlap” with Romney. Romney would like to convince the John Hagee crowd that such a relationship exists, but it is a convenient fiction.

And then flipping a few pages over there was a treat from the Post’s designated right wing blogger Jennifer Rubin. If you wondered how the tragedy in Aurora Colorado could possibly relate to the Middle East Jennifer can enlighten you. Take twelve deaths in Colorado coming from a country of 312 million and think about 5 Israeli deaths in Bulgaria coming from a nation of only 7.8 million.

Crunching the numbers, the impact for Israelis was as if 200 had died in Colorado. I know it’s confusing but Jennifer is real smart. And, Jennifer added, meanwhile think of all those Syrians whom the Israelis so desperately want to help by invading their country. Jennifer’s estimate that Assad has killed 14,000 of his own people in a nation of 20 million would have the same relative impact as 210,000 dead Americans.

Ironically, Jennifer’s blog came out on a day when the news was also reporting 145 killed in Iraq in one day. As Iraq has 33 million people, that works out to the equivalent of 1,371 dead Americans using Jennifer’s curious metric to establish equivalencies. But, of course, Jennifer does not mention Iraq as that was a neocon-initiated war on behalf of Israel which she helped promote.

[edit]Career

Kourosh Ziabari began writing articles for local magazines in the northern Iranian province of Guilan since he was 8. He has also written articles on politics, society, culture and technology for Iran’s leading national dailies including SharghHamshahriEtemaadIranHam-Mihan and Jame-Jam. He is also a regular contributor to Daneshmand Magazine, Iran’s oldest popular science publication.

Since 2008, Kourosh Ziabari has been writing for international journals, news websites and magazines and his articles, interviews and commentaries have been translated into several languages. He is a regular contributor to Iran’s leading English-language daily Tehran Times and the Iranian-funded satellite TV channel Press TV. His works have also been featured by CounterPunch andBaltimore Chronicle.

Kourosh Ziabari’s main concern in his articles is to acquaint the global public with the hidden and concealed realities of Iran and different facets of his country’s culture, civilization and arts.

He is opposed to the West’s economic sanctions and threats of military strike against Iran and believes that the sanctions directly affect the ordinary Iranian people’s lives and deteriorate their economic situation and are in sharp contrast to the Western leaders’ claims of friendship and affinity with the Iranian nation. [2]

Ziabari has always made attempts to introduce Iran’s cultural heritage to the international audience and make them familiar with Iran’s prominent historical personalities and figures including scientists, poets, writers, etc. He believes that Iranians have made essential contributions to world’s cultural heritage and for this reason, they deserve to be venerated. He asserts that Iranians desire to live in peace and friendship with the other nation and have never attacked nor invaded any country unlike the belligerent colonial powers who accuse Iran of sponsoring terrorism. [3]

Kourosh is the Iranian affairs writer and media correspondent with the Oregon-based news website Salem News.[4] Some of his articles and interviews have appeared on Australia’s Online Opinion[5] website.

He is also a columnist with the online foreign affairs journal Veterans Today[6], a regular contributor to the Canada-based Center for Research on Globalization[7], Russia-based Strategic Culture Foundation[8] and Foreign Policy Journal[9].

[edit]Viewpoints

[edit]Anti-Islamic sentiments

Kourosh Ziabari believes that Muslims are subject to blind prejudice, systematic discrimination and unjustifiable bias in the Western societies. The portrayal of mass media of the Muslims is unrealistic and biased and does not represent the reality of Muslims’ lifestyle and attitudes. He believes that anti-Islamic sentiments are rising in the U.S. and Europe and that a horrendous wave of Islamophobia is encompassing the West, especially following the September 11 attacks. He believes that Western media are fueling Islamophobia. [10] Ziabari strongly condemned the burning of Holy Quran by the extremist pastor Terry Jones and called on the international community to bring him to justice. In an article titled “Does burning Quran solve your problems?”, Kourosh Ziabari responded to the burning of Muslims’ holy book by pastor Terry Jones.[11]

[edit]Anti-Iranian propaganda

Ziabari is a strong advocate of Persian culture and civilization. He maintains that Iran, during the course of past 100 years, has never attacked nor invaded any country and this is a proof that it doesn’t pose any threat to international peace. Those who accuse Iran of threatening global peace and stability are already involved in several military expeditions around the world. Kourosh Ziabari believes that the Western mainstream media are engaged in an all-out psychological operation and black propaganda against Iran and are depicting a distorted and false image of Iranians to their audiences. Ziabari condemns the war of words directed by the United States and Israel against Iran and asserts that Western mainstream media are run by a group of influential Zionists who want to demonize Iran and portray a black image of Iran to the international community. [12]

[edit]Persian Gulf

Kourosh Ziabari believes that Persian Gulf and its islands are parts of Iran’s cultural and historical heritage and should be preserved diligently. He believes that efforts aimed at distorting the name of Persian Gulf are parts of an anti-Iranian campaign spearheaded by certain countries that want to derail Iran’s regional supremacy and dominance in the Middle East. He has written numerous articles about the historicity and authenticity of the Persian Gulf’s name and argued that all the historical evidence and documents attest to the fact that Persian Gulf has always been called with this name. [13] He has also conducted interviews with the geopolitics expert Prof. Pirouz Mojtahedzadeh and proved that the islands of Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunbs have always been inseparable parts of Iran and claims made by the UAE on this islands are unfounded and encouraged by Israel. [14]

[edit]Iran-U.S. relations

Ziabari is a strong proponent of political and cultural reconciliation between Iran and the United States. He has written several articles and conducted many interviews in which he has attempted to convince the American public that the embittered relations between Iran and the United States should be restored to normalcy and that there’s no reason for hostility between the two countries. In 2009, he took part in a debate with the American freelance journalist Dave Eriqat [15] and discussed with him a variety of issues including the cultural affinity of Iran and the United States, the contributions of Iranian community to scientific and economic progress of the United States and the possible ways for settling the disputes between the two countries.

[edit]Iranian culture and civilization

Ziabari maintains that Persian culture and civilization has been consigned to oblivion as a result of the intensive media propaganda against Iran. He says that Iran has historically been a land of arts and sciences, but many people around the world are unaware of this fact. What the majority of Western citizens know about Iran is limited to controversy over Iran’s nuclear program, while the other facets of Iranian lifestyle have been largely ignored. In different articles, Ziabari has tried to introduce prominent Iranian scholars, scientists and artists who have made important and remarkable contributions to the global culture such as Avicenna[16] and Omar Khayyam[17]. Ziabari believes that although the Europeans have constantly called themselves the pioneers of sciences and arts throughout the history, they were the Iranians who revolutionized different aspects of the human life since ancient times up to now.

Although the European nations usually boast of being the foremost pioneers and harbingers in various fields of science and arts, they know well that they owe to the Persians the achievement of many peaks and breakthroughs which they introduce as being theirs. Persians have been traditionally skilful and dexterous in different branches of astronomy, mathematics, physics, medicine, psychiatry, architecture, philosophy, theology and literature and the unparalleled names of Ferdowsi, Rumi, Rhazes, Rudaki, Biruni, Al-Farabi, Al-Khawrizmi and Avicenna attest to the fact that Iran has been perpetually a land of science, knowledge and conscience in which cleverness grows and talent develops.
— Kourosh Ziabari, Istanbul Literary Review

[edit]Iran and terrorism

When in office, the former U.S. President George W. Bush called Iran part of an “Axis of Evil” and accused Iran of sponsoring international terrorism. Kourosh Ziabari argues that contrary to these claims, Iran is itself a victim of the state-sponsored terrorism. He says that the terrorist gang MKO which is said to be supported by the United States has killed hundreds of Iranian civilians and even politicians and should be held accountable for these crimes. However, the European Union has removed the name of MKO from its list of terrorist organizations, thus giving more room to it to further its dangerous operations around the world. Kourosh Ziabari believes that Iran has always been at the forefront of confronting terrorism and there’s no credible evidence confirming that Iran has been a supporter or sponsor of terrorism as the United States and its European allies claim. [18]

[edit]Views on Israel

Ziabari is opposed to Israel’s occupation of the Gaza Strip and West Bank and has written several articles and conducted many interviews regarding the ordeal and plight of the Palestinian nation under Israeli aggression. He, however, believes that having anti-Israeli sentiments is completely in sharp contrast to anti-Semitism and that those who oppose Israel’s actions and policies should not be vilified as anti-Semite. He believes that Jews, like the Muslims and Christians, are the followers of a divine religion and should be respected and allowed to practice their religious ceremonies without being persecuted and harassed. Ziabari has argued that even in Iran which is a Muslim-majority country, Jews are peacefully living along with the rest of Iranians and are entitled to every political, social and economic right which the rest of people enjoy. He calls Jews a “respectable minority” and believes that all followers of the monotheistic religions should be revered and allowed to enjoy social rights. [19]

[edit]Saudi Arabia’s policies

Ziabari posits that Saudi Arabia is a source of sedition and insecurity in the Middle East. He says that Saudi Arabia has betrayed its Muslim neighbor Iran and is taking orders from Tel Aviv in confronting Iran. He believes that Saudi Arabia is dancing to Israel’s tunes and is taking serious steps to demonize Iran and make the international community believe that Iran poses a threat to the security of Middle East. According to Ziabari, Saudi Arabia has exaggerated the potential threat of Iran’s nuclear program and is spreading falsehood with regards to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program. By referring to the remarks of Saudi Foreign Minister, Kourosh Ziabari has argued that Saudi Arabia has become a stooge for Israel and the United States in the region and turned its back to the Islamic values for which she has been venerated by the majority of Muslims around the world. [20]

[edit]2011 Norway attacks

With regards to the 2011 Norway attacks in which a mass murderer and terrorist named Anders Behring Breivik opened fire on hundreds of young members of the Norwegian Labour Party’s AUFwho had hold a demonstration in support of the Palestinian nation and voiced their criticism of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian lands, Ziabari believes that the Western mainstream mediadeliberately put out of sight the truths and realities behind the terrorist attacks and euphemistically downgraded Breivik to a “shooter” instead of calling him a terrorist, as he really was. Ziabari maintains that this attack was not only a massacre of innocent civilians in the heart of Europe, but an assault on multiculturalism and an Islamophobic ploy which the mass media in the West tried to conceal and hide from public view.[21]

[edit]Rohingya Muslims massacre

With the eruption of unrest and riots in the Rakhine State of Myanmar in the late July, 2012 and the massacre of Muslims in the Western Burmese state, Kourosh Ziabari reacted promptly and wrote articles which were widely published on the web. In one of his articles co-authored with Iqbal Ahmad, he demanded international response to the massacre of Rohingya Muslims and called on human rights organizations to take practical steps to ensure that the plight of Myanmar Muslims will be drawn to an end. [22]

AGENT ORANGE USA /What has happened to you my brothers ?

NOVANEWS
Daniel Mabsout

It is enough for us to see the whole world rallied against Syria to know that the Syrian regime is on the right track and that it is defending a right cause , for how can US administration and NATO and the western establishment back any revolution or promote human rights and civil liberties or bring a favorable change to any society ? What has happened to people . ? Have people turned completely blind or have they become blinded to the point that they rely on US or think that US and company are promoters of human rights and nations’ rights in any way ?

Who made USA suddenly the source of freedom and the promoter of human rights ? Why US has no more enemies among a great portion of Muslims or of Intellectuals or leftist or Sunnis or Egyptians or Palestinians ? Why is US no more an enemy to all those . How did Arabs and Muslims swallow the pill ? How did Egyptians and Palestinians swallow the pill and embrace the logic of Uncle Sam ? What has happened to you my brothers ? Has US changed in any respect ? Has it turned into something else ? Has it changed its policies or gone over its positions or questioned its behavior or corrected its drive ? Has it done anything of this sort to see you all -my brothers- rush to its embrace and have you all conform to it and abide by what it says?

Has the US become Muslim ? Has it become Sunni Muslim ?. Does Obama know who is Sunni and who is not and who is Shi’a and who is not ? What does Obama know besides the CIA quarters where he grew up and where his mother father and step father and grandma have been trained and where he himself was manufactured ? Does Hillary know? Or the US administration ? Does the US administration know who is Muslim and who is not ? How could US erase its bloody history in one coup and get rid of it to become overnight the benefactor of humanity ? How did it become suddenly the enemy of tyrants and dictators and since when? How did it turn into the haven of human rights and the friend of all ? How has this happened and how did USA become such and who did this ?

Who turned USA into a supporter of revolutions and of peoples’? Is it perestroika ? Or it is the Iraqi war? Or the internet? Or Wikileaks ? Who turned Big Brother into the friend of Arabs and Islam ? How -with his hands stained with native blood and Latin blood and Japanese and Vietnamese blood and Palestinian blood and Lebanese and Afghani and Iraqi and Pakistani blood and Libyan and Syrian blood and African blood , Somali and Sudanese and other – how with his hands stained with the blood of so many leaders and revolutionaries , how -after killing Guevara and Allende and after killing Malcom X and Martin Luther King- how did Uncle Sam become revolutionary ?

How after supporting all tyrants of the world -from Pinochet to the Shah of Iran -has Uncle Sam suddenly become democrat ? Who did this ? Who made Uncle Sam appear as such ? Is it a magician or a shaman or an illusionist? Who made uncle Sam appear as the friend of Syria , the friend of Syrians ? Why are Muslims cheering for him , celebrating his interventions , praising his assets, and why are Palestinians rallying for him , rushing to his service ?

What has happened to Palestinians to forsake Palestine and join Uncle Sam ? Have they gone mad ? Have they become out of touch ? Were they ever against Uncle Sam ? Were they ever against Israel? Who are the people who want Uncle Sam to overtake Syria , who have forgotten Palestine and want Israel to expand ? Who are those people ? How did they come into existence , from where did they grow and develop ? What is their substance ? How did they happen to be and have they always been there? What is it that made them and on what do they feed ? On money ? On fake dreams ? On disillusion? On false promises or on ignorance and greed and selfishness ?

It is enough that Syria has assembled all these enemies , that even Palestinians of HAMAS are rallying against it and want to liberate Syria after they failed Palestine . The story is much simpler than this , and Palestine could be liberated and will be liberated , and so will Syria and Lebanon and all countries . All countries can be liberated not at the hands of the people who failed Palestine and are failing Syria , who favored sectarianism over religion , not at the hands of armed thugs working for Uncle Sam and prince Bandar .

There is this Resistance , the Lebanese Resistance and the Palestinian Resistance and any Resistance , it defeated Israel .and liberated Lebanon . Without it Lebanon would still be under occupation and Israelis would have started long ago building settlements and units and confiscating land. Just imagine what would have happened if Lebanon was still occupied , just imagine another Palestine again , the same story repeated all over again; settlers everywhere bullying people , thousands of Lebanese incarcerated , and enduring humiliation , torture and mistreatment and the killings , every other day people killed by shelling and assaulting , and the checkpoints , so many checkpoints to hinder people and prevent them from going from one place to another in their own homeland, their own country .

Just imagine what another Palestine would look like , and then- next- will come Syria because the Israeli dream will stretch for ever . Just imagine what an occupied Syria will look like , the settlements , the checkpoints and the prisons filled with people again and again , just imagine what Lebanon and Syria will look like- if occupied and taken- and how many Palestines can the earth bear due to delusion and complacency ?

Now this has not happened , the Palestinian plight was not repeated , neither in Lebanon nor in Syria . The Palestinian plight was held and stopped and checked at the borders of Lebanon . The Israelis also were checked and confronted and defeated , their scheme was defeated . The land was liberated , the Israelis were ousted and the Jewish settlers never showed up nor the settlings were built nor the walls raised or the prisons established; instead everything was torn down, the Israeli dream aborted and the Israeli army was crushed . This has happened thanks to the Resistance , the committed Resistance of the people that was successful due to its faith and trust in God and due to its earnestness and rectitude and concentration and pure resolve. It worked in Lebanon and it can work in Palestine so why not try it instead of betting on Uncle Sam and investing in USA and attacking Syria ?

Australian court drops sex abuse charges against former Chabad youth leader

NOVANEWS

Haaretz

Aron ‘Ezzy’ Kestecher was accused of four counts of indecent acts with minors; Kestecher: ‘It was Judaism that was the issue.’Multiple charges against an Orthodox man associated with Chabad-Lubavitch in Melbourne have been dropped.

Aron “Ezzy” Kestecher, a 27-year-old former Chabad youth leader, was charged last year with four counts of indecent acts on a child under 16.

All four charges were withdrawn on Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the Australian Department of Justice confirmed.

Kestecher revealed the news on Facebook, saying “All charges gone.”

In a later post he wrote: “I never lost hope in God. It was Judaism that was the issue.”

When contacted, Kestecher declined to comment.

The news comes just two weeks after David Cyprys, another Orthodox man associated with Chabad in Melbourne, was ordered to stand trial next July on 41 counts of child sex abuse.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges against 12 alleged victims who were students at Yeshiva College in the 1980s. Three of them now live in America.

The college, which is in the same campus as the Chabad headquarters in Melbourne, has reassured parents it has the strictest protocols in place to safeguard their students.

United States Withholds Military Aid From Rwanda

NOVANEWS

On Saturday, July 21, 2012 the United States officially announced that it was withholding $200,000 in military aid from the Rwandan government. Although a materially insignificant sum, the symbolism has serious implications for Rwanda’s image and reputation in the global community.

In withholding aid from Rwanda, President Obama is following in the footsteps of the Bush administration who pressured Rwanda to withdraw its soldiers from the Congo in 2002. In addition, the Obama administration has taken a small step in implementing the Democratic Republic of Congo Relief Security and Democracy Promotion Act, PL 109-456 – a law that he sponsored as Senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton co-sponsored. Section 105 of the law says:

“The Secretary of State is authorized to withhold assistance made available under the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (22 U.S.C. 2151 et seq.), other than humanitarian, peacekeeping, and counter terrorism assistance, for a foreign country if the Secretary determines that the government of the foreign country is taking actions to destabilize the Democratic Republic of the Congo.”

Friends of the Congo maintains that Rwanda’s repeated interventions in the Congo since 1996 has been the major obstacle to peace and stability in the region. Rwanda along with its ally Uganda have invaded the Congo twice (1996 & 1998); occupied the Congo 1997 – 2002; sponsored proxy rebel groups, mainly the Rally For Congolese Democracy (RCD), National Congress for the Defense of the People (CNDP), and M23; fought a six-day waragainst Uganda on Congolese soil over diamonds in Kisangani in 2000 killing over 1,000 Congolese and injuring scores. Yet, Rwanda has escaped serious sanctions and have operated with impunity in the Congo primarily via its support of rebel groups with devastating consequences for Congolese civilians.

The withholding of aid by the United States government is significant because, it:
1. Sends a strong signal to Paul Kagame and the Rwandan government that they no longer have carte-blanche to destabilize the Congo.

2. Endorses the UN Group of Experts findings, which Rwanda vehemently denies.

3. Communicates a clear message to Rwanda that although its people are victims of a genocide it does not entitle the government to sponsor mayhem and atrocities in the Congo.

4. Clears the way for other donors to follow the US lead in withholding aid from Rwanda. The Netherlands is the first nation to follow in the footsteps of the United States by withholding aid from Rwanda.

5. Announces to the global community that it will no longer provide diplomatic cover for Rwanda’s aggression against the Congo.

6. Sets in motion a process that will increasingly hold Rwanda to account for destabilizing the Congo. See Stephen Rapp’s statements about the possibility of Paul Kagame facing prosecution at the international criminal court for arming groups responsible for atrocities in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

7. Says to Rwanda that good management of aid dollars does not give it license to flagrantly violate international law and destabilize a neighbor.

8. Establishes standards or parameters for accountability at the international level.

9. Hits Rwanda with the reality that it is not beyond reproach even if it has friends in high places (President Clinton, a staunch supporter of President Paul Kagame had just left Rwanda when the State Department announced the cutting of aid).

10. Injects a critical variable into the equation when Rwanda contemplates the implications for destabilizing the Congo in particular and the region in general.

The Congolese people are yearning for some measure of accountability, justice and an end to the impunity, not only locally but also regionally and internationally. The United States has the tools at its disposal to play a key constructive role in advancing peace and stability in the region. As the United States continue “to assess whether other steps should be taken,” the government ought to be encouraged and pressured to do more until the political, military and economic stranglehold that Rwanda has on eastern Congo via its proxies is broken. Peace and stability in the region can be advanced significantly should Rwanda cease its support of rebel groups, initiate an inter-Rwandan dialogue and scale back its ambitions to control the Kivus for its economic benefit.

The Few Banks that Own All

NOVANEWS

super-entity.jpg

147 corporations, mostly banks, control 40% of the world’s wealth.

by Anthony Migchels

In the Fall of 2011, a study by Swiss scientists revealed that a small number of banks controlled a decisive stake in the globe’s economy.

The idea that this banking cartel controls the economy is now a scientifically quantified matter of record.

The study, called ‘the Network of Global Corporate Control’ was done by Stefania Vitali, James B. Glattfelder, and Stefano Battiston, in Zurich, Switzerland. The method was datamining the Orbis Marketing Database 2007, with data on more than 30 million economic actors (companies and investors) worldwide, including asset positions.

The study was published in the New Scientist, a highly respected outlet of mainstream science.

The results were interesting, although basically predictable.

Massive centralization
It transpires that there are about 43,000 companies that are Transnational according to the OECD definition.

There is a top 1,318 of them that seem to be at the center of it all. This core group has three important characteristics.

1. Between them, they generated 20% of the world’s income.

2. They own each other.

The Orbis database clearly showed that most shares of these corporations were owned by other members of the group of 1,318. This means that the biggest, most profitable and influential corporations in the world all own each other and are basically one massive cartel, or even monopoly. They are competing only nominally. Competition is sin.

3. The core owns all the other biggest 43,000 Transnational corporations.

These companies generate another 60% of the entire world’s income. So not only is the top of the business world on major cartel, it controls or outright owns all of its lesser brethren, confirming the idea of one incredible monopoly owning the entire world.

Besides these three issues with the core of 1,318, there are two more shocking observations:

4. 80% of the total control was in the hands of an even smaller group of 737 corporations.

5. And last but not least: at the very top, only 147 corporations directly control 40% of the total wealth.

Conclusion

See below the article for a list of the top 50 of this list.

As you can see from that list, they are all banks or other financial institutions.

So no, it’s not a hyperbole to say the Banking System is One. We’re not overstating the case when we say it’s just one massive cartel. That the banks own everything, including all the major industries. Oil, Weapons, Pharmaceuticals, Food, Telecom and IT, etc. It’s all one massive monopoly. Controlled from the top down.

The Money Power is real and these Swiss gentlemen have done us a favor by crunching the numbers.

Questions remain. How do the CAFR’s of US Governmental pension funds and the like fit in this picture? How are the companies controlled if they all own each other?

However, the last few years we have seen conspiracy theory getting validated more and more everyday. People are still surprised, but that is only because they don’t understand human nature. People conspire to do just about everything. It would have been really surprising had there not been a conspiracy to rule the world.

PLEASE BOYCOTT ADIDAS

NOVANEWS

Dear All

Let the Games begin – join our day of action

Today as the opening ceremony kicks off the London 2012 Games, workers making goods for the official sportswear partner Adidas still face poverty wages, appalling working conditions and are denied their basic rights.
Despite thousands of people writing to Adidas’ CEO, he is still refusing to make basic commitments to tackle worker exploitation like ensuring all workers are paid a living wage.So we need you to join a nationwide day of action  targeting Adidas.

Adidas CEO Herbert Hainer is in London for the Olympics and he’s been telling journalists how important the Games are for the Adidas brand. He’s not been getting an easy ride though; he’s been challenged over workers’ pay. Rather than promising to tackle low pay he said “we are not in the welfare business. Our job is to make a profit.”

Adidas are simply not taking these appalling abuses of workers’ rights seriously. They seem to think exploiting workers to fuel their profits is fine.

To get Adidas to take this seriously, we need you to join a day of action outside Adidas stores on Saturday 4 August.

An action is already being organised in London, and there are more Adidas shops in towns and cities across the UK.

Adidas are refusing to take the exploitation of thousands of workers seriously. Now is the time to step up the pressure while Adidas are in the Olympic spotlight and demand that Adidas takes action.

Thank you,

Murray Worthy
Sweatshops campaigner

PS. If you would rather not take part in the high street actions, please email Adidas CEO to demand they stop exploiting workers and share the action with everyone you know

Colorado Carnage: Proof of Obama Ineptitude Sick individuals are the product of a “sick society”

NOVANEWS
By Finian Cunningham
Global Research
Press TV

In a society which criminalizes and degrades whole communities on the basis of skin color

andlow economic status and which refuses appeals for clemency even for mentally sick

individuals is it any wonder when certain other members of that society treat their fellow citizens

with brutality over perceived grievances and grudges? Sick individuals are the product of a sick

society. President Barack Obama has led the American nation’s soul-searching over the latest

shooting spree in their country in which 12 people were murdered in a Colorado cinema house by

a seemingly crazed 24-year-old man.

Obama said he was “shocked and saddened by the horrific shooting” in which a university doctoral

student calmly, callously opened fire on families and friends who had packed a theater in Aurora,

Colorado, for the opening night of the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises.

James Holmes, the alleged shooter, had likened himself to The Joker, the arch-villain of the

Batman series. Methodically, he entered minutes after the movie began screening at midnight l

ast Thursday, wearing a helmet and gasmask and clad in full body armor. Holmes set off two tear

gas grenades and then proceeded to spray the terrified audience with bullets from a 12-gauge

shotgun, a 0.40 Glock handgun and a semiautomatic assault rifle. Tragically, some of the people

initially thought it was a promotional stunt for the film.

In somber tones, Obama urged fellow Americans, “When confronted by moments of darkness and challenge, we must now come together as one American family. We must stand together.”

Moments of such darkness recur with disturbing frequency in the American society. Since Obama took office in early 2009, there have been at least six mass shootings across the United States, from Binghamton in New York where 13 people were killed in April 2009 at an immigration services centre, to Oakland, California, where seven people were shot dead at a Christian college earlier this year.

Before that, the biggest murder spree was in 2007 at Virginia Tech when a gunman killed 32 people at a college before taking his own life. In 1999, only 17 miles from the latest massacre, two teenagers went on a shooting rampage in Colorado’s Columbine High School, killing 12 of their fellow students and a teacher, and then turning their guns on themselves.

What is it about the American society that makes the wanton destruction of human life such a routine occurrence?

Some point to the constitutional right for all citizens to bear firearms and the easy access of buying even high-powered weapons over a shop counter. Campaigners for stricter gun controls point out that there are more firearms in the US than there are citizens – some 300 million. Such is the prevalence of mass shootings in the US that even conservative public figures, such as commentator Bill Kristol and New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, are now calling for greater restrictions on gun ownership.

The American gun lobby claims that the perpetrators of such horrific killings are simply sick individuals who have become unhinged, morally and psychologically.

Added to the debate are complaints that American popular culture has become saturated with gratuitous violence, from Hollywood to television to video games, which has desensitized young people to killing and maiming. Indeed, the Batman movies themselves are known for scenes of unremitting, explosive violence.

However, the spectrum of American politicians and media pundits does not seem capable of acknowledging nor even being cognizant of a deeper malaise for these mass killings. This malaise stems from how deeply engrained and integrated violence is in the very fabric of US society. That is because it stems from America’s capitalist social disorder of haves and have-nots, its structural violence against marginalized communities, its system of self-enriching cronyism for ruling elites at the federal and state levels, the looting of public finances by banks and corporations, and from the country’s increasingly lawless and destructive relations with the rest of the world. What makes the systematic violence of the US so lamentable is that not one of the political parties or mainstream media is able to provide a comprehensive narrative for the root cause. They are intellectually bankrupt. Therefore the solution will continue to elude and the violence will continue, again and again.

A look back at some of the incidents and news in the days preceding and following the Colorado cinema shooting casts some light on where such depravity may stem from.

Earlier in the week that the shooter held his finger on the trigger, there was another gratuitous homicide. US Navy men onboard a 670-foot warship, the USNS Rappahannock, opened fire with heavy machine guns on a small fishing boat in the Persian Gulf. Survivors among the Indian fishing crew said that without warning shots or signals, their vessel was sprayed with a hail of lead from 0.40 caliber armor-piercing guns. One of fishing crew died when his body was torn into three pieces from the gunfire, while three others were critically wounded. The US Navy ship didn’t even stop to tend the injured. Respect for law, human life? Not as far as US government military forces are concerned in this instance as in so many other instances in Afghanistan, Iraq and countless other countries where they operate.

The day before the Colorado murders, the American mainstream media reported that Congress had approved an annual budget of $606 billion for Pentagon military expenditure, including overseas operations such as the massive build-up of American warships and fighter jets in the Persian Gulf against Iran, and the ongoing 11-year war in Afghanistan – the longest war in American history. Such official disclosure of military spending – larger than that of all countries of the world combined – eclipses total American government spending on health, education, employment and training, research and development, community and social welfare, public infrastructure and utilities, and it comes at a time when poverty is ripping apart families and communities the length and breadth of the US, afflicting some 50 million Americans. This is an economy of war and violence writ large. An economy dictated by a few, unaccountable to the majority.

A macabre form of cost-cutting came in the form of the Texas state execution of death row prisoner Yokamon Hearns. Just hours before the Colorado slayings, mentally disabled Hearns was put to death with a single lethal injection – instead of the customary administering of three chemicals. The single injection of pentobarbital will presumably save the state money. Pleas for clemency were ignored by the Texan authorities, even though Hearns was intellectually disabled from childhood. A second African-American man, Warren Hill, is to be executed this week, also by single lethal injection, in the state of Georgia, after more than 20 years on death row. Like Hearns, Hill is also mentally disabled. Their cases illustrate disquieting trends in the American justice system. First, the number of death row prisoners has increased five-fold from the mid-1970s, when the death penalty was reinstated, to some 3,100 currently. Second, the numbers awaiting execution are disproportionately higher for men from poor, black communities. And, thirdly, this capital punishment is being used increasingly on individuals who have clinical conditions of mental impairment. In 2002, the US Supreme Court ruled that execution of intellectually disabled inmates was “cruel and unusual punishment” – but the practice continues in many states.

In a society which criminalizes and degrades whole communities on the basis of skin color and low economic status and which refuses appeals for clemency even for mentally sick individuals is it any wonder when certain other members of that society treat their fellow citizens with brutality over perceived grievances and grudges? Sick individuals are the product of a sick society.

And the week of American violence was not over yet.

Almost a full week before the Colorado shootings, massacres, shooting and bombings were intensified in Syria under Washington’s proxy war against the government of Bashar Al Assad. For the past 16 months, thousands of Syrian civilians have been murdered, kidnapped or dispossessed by foreign mercenaries waging a covert war at the behest of Washington and its allies Britain, France, Turkey, Israel and the Persian Gulf Arab monarchies. The illegal objective of “regime change” is now openly exulted by President Obama. Indeed, only last week US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned of yet more violence to bring down the Syrian government, a threat that culminated in the murder of four senior Syrian Cabinet members in a bomb attack that has all the hallmarks of a Western intelligence operation.

Needless to say, Washington did not condemn that act of mass murder. Days later, US lawlessness was underscored when John Bolton, the Bush-era neocon and former ambassador to the United Nations, urged the state of Israel to launch a military strike against Iran on the basis of outlandish allegations that the Islamic Republic had been involved in the car-bombing of seven Israeli tourists in Bulgaria. Just like that, acts of war dispatched from American mouths, as easy as rounds from a semiautomatic. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has since given notice that long-held joint American war plans towards Iran have been brought forward.

Meanwhile, American unmanned drone strikes continued to kill people in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen. The latest victims include two civilians in Nuristan, northeast Afghanistan, and 12 unknown people in Pakistan’s North Waziristan province. These victims were presumably shortlisted by President Obama in his weekly meetings with Pentagon chiefs to sanction the coming week’s assassination “hits” (- perhaps around the same time that he was preparing his somber speech for the victims in Colorado).

Over the weekend, as the people of Aurora, Colorado, were mourning their family and friends, eight US-led soldiers were killed in Afghanistan in separate Taliban attacks, bringing the total troop fatalities in that country to 258 so far this year. Obama will no doubt claim that such loss of life is testimony to America’s “leading the world in the cause of freedom.”

Although, over the same weekend, when American citizens at home protested for freedom from poverty, unemployment and homelessness, they were batoned and shot at with rubber bullets and pepper spray by riot-clad police officers. The levels of police brutality in cities like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles have reached new heights. Only days before the Colorado killings, a San Francisco man who was handcuffed by police was shot twice fatally in the chest by officers. Two days after Colorado, another man was shot in the back as he ran away from officers in Anaheim, Los Angeles. In that incident, unarmed Manuel Diaz was brought down with the first volley and then as he fell wounded he was shot in the back of head. Local people said police officers handcuffed his prone corpse before carting it away. When Diaz’s neighbors came out on their street to peacefully denounce police conduct, they were fired on with rubber bullets and set upon with police dogs.

Such gratuitous state violence towards its citizens makes a mockery of Obama’s exhortations for Americans to “stand together as one family.”

In his speech on the Colorado shootings, Obama added, “We may never understand what leads anybody to terrorize fellow human beings like this. Such violence, such evil is senseless. It’s beyond reason.”

What is beyond reason is just another week of American violence, at home and abroad.
