Confronting Wall Street: Establishing a Democratic Public Postal Banking System in America Letter Carriers Consider Bringing Back Banking Services

By Ellen Brown

Global Research, August 12, 2012

On July 27, 2012, the National Association of Letter Carriers adopted a resolution at their National Convention in Minneapolis to investigate establishing a postal banking system.  The resolution noted that expanding postal services and developing new sources of revenue are important to the effort to save the public Post Office and preserve living-wage jobs; that many countries have a successful history of postal banking, including Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and the United States itself; and that postal banks could serve the 9 million people who don’t have bank accounts and the 21 million who use usurious check cashers, giving low-income people access to a safe banking system.  “A USPS bank would offer a ‘public option’ for banking,” concluded the resolution, “providing basic checking and savings – and no complex financial wheeling and dealing.”

The USPS has been declared insolvent, but it is not because it is inefficient (it has been self-funded throughout its history).  It is because in 2006, Congress required it to prefund postal retiree health benefitsfor 75 years into the future, an onerous burden no other public or private company is required to carry.  The USPS has evidently been targeted by a plutocratic Congress bent on destroying the most powerful unions and privatizing all public services, including education.  Britain’s 150-year-old postal service is also on the privatization chopping block, and its postal workers have also vowed to fight.  Adding banking services is an internationally proven way to maintain post office solvency and profitability.

Serving an Underserved Market, Without Going Broke

Many countries operate postal savings systems through their post offices, providing people without access to banks a safe, convenient way to save.  Great Britain first offered this arrangement in 1861.  It was wildly popular, attracting over 600,000 accounts and £8.2 million in deposits in its first five years. By 1927, there were twelve million accounts—one in four Britons—with £283 million on deposit.

Other postal banks followed.  They were popular because they serviced a huge untapped market—the unbanked and underbanked.  According to a Discussion Paper of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs:

The essential characteristic distinguishing postal financial services from the private banking sector is the obligation and capacity of the postal system to serve the entire spectrum of the national population, unlike conventional private banks which allocate their institutional resources to service the sectors of the population they deem most profitable.

Serving the unbanked and underbanked may sound like a losing proposition, but numerous precedents show that postal savings banks serving low-income and rural populations can be quite profitable.  (See below.)  In many countries, according to the UN Paper, banking revenues are actually crucial to maintaining the profitability of their postal network.  Letter delivery generates losses and often requires cross-subsidies from other activities to maintain its network.  One effective solution has been to create or expand postal financial services.

Public postal banks are profitable because their market is large and their costs are low: the infrastructure is already built and available, advertising costs are minimal, and government-owned banks do not award their management extravagant bonuses or commissions that drain profits away.  Profits return to the government and the people.

Profits return to the government in another way: money that comes out from under mattresses and gets deposited in savings accounts can be used to purchase government bonds.  Japan Post Bank, for example, holds 20% of Japan’s national debt.  The government has its own captive public lender, servicing the debt at low interest without risking the vagaries of the international bond market.  Fully 95% of Japan’s national debt is held domestically in one way or another.  That helps explain how Japan can have the worst debt-to-GDP ratio of any major country and still maintain its standing as the world’s largest creditor.

Some Examples of Successful Public Postal Banks

New Zealand’s profitable postal bank had a return on equity of 11.7% in the second half of 2011, with net profits almost trebling.  It is the only New Zealand bank able to compete with the big four Australian banks that dominate the New Zealand financial sector.

In fact, it was set up for that purpose. By 2001, Australian mega-banks controlled some 80% of New Zealand’s retail banking. Profits went abroad and were maximized by closing less profitable branches, especially in rural areas.  The New Zealand government decided to launch a state-owned bank that would compete with the Aussie banks. To keep costs low while still providing services throughout New Zealand, the planning team opened bank branches in post offices.

In an early version of the “move your money” campaign, 500,000 customers transferred their deposits to public postal banks in Kiwibank’s first five years—this in a country of only 4 million people.  Kiwibank consistently earns the nation’s highest customer satisfaction ratings, forcing the Australia-owned banks to improve their service to compete.

China’s Postal Savings Bureau:

With the assistance of the People’s Bank of China, China’s Postal Savings Bureau was re-established in 1986 after a 34-year lapse.  As in New Zealand, savings deposits flooded in, growing at over 50% annually in the first half of the 1990s and over 24% in the second half.  By 1998, postal savings accounted for 47% of China Post’s operating revenues; and 80% of China’s post offices provided postal savings services.  The Postal Savings Bureau has served as a vital link in mobilizing income and profits from the private sector, providing credit for local development. In 2007, the Postal Savings Bank of China was set up from the Postal Savings Bureau as a state-owned limited company that provides postal banking services.

Japan Post Bank:

By 2007, Japan Post was the largest holder of personal savings in the world, boasting combined assets for its savings bank and insurance arms of more than ¥380 trillion ($3.2 trillion).  It was also the largest employer in Japan. As in China, Japan Post recaptures and mobilizes income from the private sector, funding the government at low interest rates and protecting the nation’s debt from speculative raids.

Switzerland’s Swiss Post:

Postal financial services are by far the most profitable activity of Swiss Post, which suffers heavy losses from its parcel delivery and only marginal profits from letter delivery operations.

India’s Post Office Savings Bank (POSB):

POSB is India’s largest banking institution and its oldest, having been established in the latter half of the 19thcentury following the success of the postal savings system in England.  Operated by the government of India, it provides small savings banking and financial services.  The Department of Posts is now seeking to expand these services by creating a full-fledged bank that would offer full lending and investing services.

Russia’s PochtaBank:

Russia, too, is seeking to expand its post office services.  The head of the highly successful state-owned Sberbank has stepped down to take on the task of revitalizing the Russian post office and create a post office bank.  PochtaBank will operate in the Russian Post’s 40,000 local post offices. The post office will function as a banking institution and compete on equal footing not only with private banks but with Sberbank itself.

Brazil’s ECT:

Brazil instituted a postal banking system in 2002 on a public/private model, with the national postal service (ECT) forming a partnership with the nation’s largest private bank (Bradesco) to provide financial services at post offices. The current partnership is with Bank of Brazil.  ECT (also known as Correios) is one of the largest state-owned companies in Latin America, with an international service network reaching more than 220 countries worldwide.

The U.S. Postal Savings System:

The now-defunct U.S. Postal Savings System was also quite successful in its day.  It was set up in 1911 to get money out of hiding, attract the savings of immigrants, provide safe depositories for people who had lost confidence in private banks, and furnish depositories with longer hours that were convenient for working people.  The minimum deposit was $1 and the maximum was $2,500.  The postal system paid two percent interest on deposits annually.  It issued U.S. Postal Savings Bonds that paid annual interest, as well as Postal Savings Certificates and domestic money orders.  Postal savings peaked in 1947 at almost $3.4 billion.

The U.S. Postal Savings System was shut down in 1967, not because it was inefficient but because it became unnecessary after its profitability became apparent.  Private banks then captured the market, raising their interest rates and offering the same governmental guarantees that the postal savings system had.

Time to Revive the U.S. Postal Savings System?

Today, the market of the underbanked has grown again, including about one in four U.S. households according to a 2009 FDIC survey. Without access to conventional financial services, people turn to an alternative banking market of bill pay, prepaid debit cards and check cashing services, and payday loans. They pay excessive fees for basic financial services and are susceptible to high-cost predatory lenders. On average, a payday borrower pays back $800 for a $300 loan, with $500 going just toward interest. Low-income adults in the U.S spend over 5 billion dollars paying off fees and debt associated with predatory loans annually.

Another underserviced market is the rural population.  In May 2012, a move to shutter 3,700 low-revenue post offices was halted only by months of dissent from rural states and their lawmakers.  Banking services are also more limited for farmers following the 2008 financial crisis.  With shrinking resources for obtaining credit, farmers are finding it increasingly difficult to stay in their homes.

It is clear that there is a market for postal banking.  Countries such as Russia and India are exploring full-fledged lending services through their post offices; but if lending to the underbanked seems too risky, a U.S. postal bank could follow the lead of Japan Post and use the credit generated from its deposits to buy safe and liquid government bonds.  That could still make the bank a win-win-win, providing income for the post office, safe and inexpensive depository and checking services for the underbanked, and a reliable source of public funding for the government.

The Real Terrorist Threat: Foreign Wars on Behalf of IsraHell

Foreign wars to “root out Jihadists” are the biggest threat to America, and not Islamic terrorism, world-famous foreign affairs expert professor Stephen M. Walt has said.

Writing on his Foreign Policy blog, professor Walt referred to a new report by John Mueller and Mark G. Stewart called The Terrorism Delusion: America’s Overwrought Response to September 11, published in the latest issue of International Security.

“Mueller and Stewart analyze 50 cases of supposed ‘Islamic terrorist plots’ against the United States, and show how virtually all of the perpetrators were (in their words) ‘incompetent, ineffective, unintelligent, idiotic, ignorant, unorganized, misguided, muddled, amateurish, dopey, unrealistic, moronic, irrational and foolish.’” Professor Walt wrote.

“They quote former Glenn Carle, former deputy national intelligence officer for transnational threats saying ‘we must see jihadists for the small, lethal, disjointed and miserable opponents that they are,’ noting further that al Qaeda’s ‘capabilities are far inferior to its desires.’

“Further, Mueller and Stewart estimate that expenditures on domestic homeland security (i.e., not counting the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan) have increased by more than $1 trillion since 9/11, even though the annual risk of dying in a domestic terrorist attack is about 1 in 3.5 million.

“Using conservative assumptions and conventional risk-assessment methodology, they estimate that for these expenditures to be cost-effective ‘they would have had to deter, prevent, foil or protect against 333 very large attacks that would otherwise have been successful every year.’

“Finally, they worry that this exaggerated sense of danger has now been ‘internalized’: even when politicians and ‘terrorism experts’ aren’t hyping the danger, the public still sees the threat as large and imminent.

“As they conclude: … Americans seems to have internalized their anxiety about terrorism, and politicians and policymakers have come to believe that they can defy it only at their own peril.  Concern about appearing to be soft on terrorism has replaced concern about seeming to be soft on communism, a phenomenon that lasted far longer than the dramatic that generated it … This extraordinarily exaggerated and essentially delusional response may prove to be perpetual.’

“Which is another way of saying that you should be prepared to keep standing in those pleasant and efficient TSA lines for the rest of your life, and to keep paying for far-flung foreign interventions designed to ‘root out’ those nasty jihadis.”

Jewish Lobby “Created Latest Sanctions” against Iran

The latest sanctions against Iran, drawn up by the Jewish Supremacist AIPAC lobby, includes the “most flagrant layers of sanctions ever enacted to undermine the economy of any country,” according to a new article in the Foreign Policy Journal.

According to the article, only Congressman Ron Paul rose to speak in strong opposition to H.R. 1905 on August 1, labeling it a “declaration of war against Iran even though Iran has no nuclear weapons program”.  And so it is.

H.R. 1905 sponsor and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) was almost giddy as she promised to deliver Florida to Romney and gushed: “This bipartisan, bicameral Iran sanctions legislation strengthens current U.S. law by leaps and bounds and it updates and expands U.S. sanctions, and counters Iran’s efforts to evade them. The bill sends a clear message to the Iranian mullahs that the U.S. is committed, through the use of sanctions, to preventing Iran from crossing the nuclear threshold.”

She reminded the media that Romney told Israeli officials in Jerusalem that the Obama administration was not doing enough to stop Iran’s nuclear program and that:  “Essentially president Obama is doing nothing!”

H.R. 1905 is a catch-all frenzied election year gimmick that lumps together legislative initiatives of all sorts in order to corral votes for Romney immediately after his Israel trip, which left little doubt that Israeli leaders believe that Israel will have less leverage to squeeze the US to take on yet another big military action if Obama is re-elected than if Romney wins.

H.R. 1905:

* Puts virtually all of Iran’s energy, financial, and transportation sectors under U.S. sanction. Companies conducting business with Iran in these sectors face losing access to U.S. markets;

* Applies harsh sanctions designed to prevent Iran from repatriating any proceeds from its oil sales, thus depriving Iran of 80 percent of its hard currency earnings and half of the funds to support its national budget for education, health, food subsidies and other needed public purposes;

* Places more tough sanctions on the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC);

* Targets Iran’s use of barter transactions to bypass sanctions, the provision of insurance to Iran’s energy sector, and the provision of specialized financial messaging services to the Central Bank of Iran;

In its letter to Congressmen, designed to aid Mitt Romney, AIPAC writes:  “America and our allies must unite in a tough response to Iran’s belligerent approach. We must continue to send a strong message to Tehran that it will face unremitting pressure until it complies with its international obligations and end its nuclear weapons quest. We strongly support The Iran Threat Reduction and Syria Human Rights Act (H.R. 1905) and urge you to vote YES.”

The letter is signed by the following AIPAC supporters of Romney: Howard Kohr, Executive Director; Marvin Feuer, Director, Policy & Government Affairs; and Brad Gordon, Director of Special Campaigns.

Learning what the Israeli lobby was attempting from its contacts at AIPAC, Obama campaign strategists moved fast and decided to have their candidate use his constitutional powers and undercut the Romney strategists toute de suite.

Obama did so and angered AIPAC and Republican leaders in Congress before the lopsided House vote on July 12, when the White House quickly invited supporters of Israel to a media event at which the President issued an Executive Order, which he explained included “Two major actions to further isolate and penalize Iran for its refusal to live up to its international obligations regarding its nuclear program and to hold accountable financial institutions that knowingly provide financial services to Iranian banks.”

As a result of pre-empting AIPAC’s H.R. 1905, and despite ‘feel good’  further action by Congress on H.R. 1905, the Obama campaign says they gutted the AIPAC/Republican/Romney scheme while once more assuring Israel and its lobby of Obama’s willingness to use all his Constitutional powers on Israel’s behalf and to target its “existential threat” Iran.

According to two congressional insiders, the quick-witted maneuver by the Obama campaign is a key reason their candidate currently leads in the swing states of Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania while reminding the media that no presidential candidate since 1960 has won the White House without carrying two of these three states.

Meanwhile, Romney operatives are seeking alternative ways to convince Israel to maintain its support and cash for his campaign during the next nine weeks of what “Slick Jimmy” is calling, “American Democracy at work.”

We Begin With Egypt…I Will Try To Keep It Short

by  Gordon Duff, Senior Editor

After one of the most dramatic revolutions in recent history, one that had to be rekindled several times to block efforts from the military and the supposedly dying Murbark to retain control over the nation, we have a week of powerful news.

Despite the military’s illegally altering the constitution, usurping power and guaranteeing a continuation of military dictatorship, the newly elected President, Mohamed Morsy “unwrote” the bastardized constitution and fired Field Marshall Hussain Tantawi, who had taken power.

The commanders of the Navy, Air Force and Air Defense services were fired as well.

Thus, a week after Libya chose an interim president and began what we hope will be a period of stabilization, surprising many by removing western oil and military interests from positions of influence, contrary to predictions, Egypt has its first real civilian government.

It is key to understand that the Muslim Brotherhood, spoken of as the forerunner of Islamic extremism with Egypt seen as its birth place is, in actuality a politically moderate institution.

The Muslim Brotherhood goes mainstream – debunking the Western fear hype, so far.

The Brotherhood is one of the factions active in Syria, seeking similar goals but facing a much more complicated situation, a national military that largely stood aside in Egypt and many international ramifications that make a regime change in Syria a forerunner to regional destabilization.

Another key factor is the simultaneous “meltdown” in Saudi Arabia.  President Morsy would not have been able to move against the Egyptian military who is supported by both Israel and Saudi Arabia without powerful support from dissidents within Saudi Arabia who represent powerful forces there.

A regional power base has been set up within the Middle East offsetting Israel and the Gulf States, who, with Turkey, are hoped to move against Syria as a precursor for an attack on Iran.

However, despite its financial power, Israel’s influence in the region is waning, Saudi Arabia is facing internal unrest and Iran is increasingly aligning with Syria.

The Pakistani army, the largest military power in the region though greatly inferior to India in ground forces, has a much larger and more efficient nuclear force.  It is Pakistan’s belief that moves against Syria and Iran, Indian involvement in Afghanistan and US/Israeli long term plans there are a threat to the region.

Because of China’s close relationship with Pakistan and the strange dual alliance of the US, with both Pakistan and India, a balance of power has been temporarily reached despite the lack of settlement in Kashmir.

This makes Pakistan more of a “mover” than Turkey who has secretly renewed military relations with Israel despite endless statements to the contrary by their president.

Israel’s hopes have been tied to the election of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.  Odds makers see this as a bad bet.

Israeli Phosphorus Confetti in Gaza

The next step will involve an opening of Gaza, a process already begun several weeks ago and meaningful talks between Israel and the newly democratic Egypt.
With the old army leaders gone, attacks on Gaza by Israeli forces will likely be seen as a provocation against Egypt.
Netanyahu will try to call on America to go against Egypt, America will refuse and either Netanyahu will fall, be assassinated, or the military will take control of Israel as they have done in the past.

In the interim, it is believed that a compromise in Syria will be reached.

The losers, first of all Saudi Arabia, which  faces being broken up.   Believe less and less of what you see.  The plotters of the last 20 years are going to find their heads on the chopping block.

Israel faces little real threat.

The Egyptian government has much to gain by displaying belligerence toward Israel as a unifying cause and the risks from this are more than “moderate.”  The people of Egypt are enraged at Israel and demanding war.

This can be put aside but not without meaningful talks and a full reassessment by the people of the Palestinian territories of their current governing bodies.  Years of Israeli infiltration has moved the dynamic away from diplomacy and more to terror attacks.

Israel – Spreading terror that even Jews can see.

Israel has been caught more than once staging terror attacks in Niger, Nigeria, Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan and, mostly, in Pakistan.

In truth, no one has a clue who is responsible for the Mumbai attacks from years ago.

During this period, the West will be centering its power on the Far East and West Africa in a low key manner.

China’s insistence on blindly supporting North Korea will continue to be an issue.

Both South Korea and Japan have large nuclear arsenals but any attacks in the region, particularly after the Fukushima disaster, are unthinkable.

Nuclear free zones need to be established in Japan, Western Russia, Coastal China and the Korean Peninsula.

If a war were to break out with NO American involvement, radiation would cut North America’s population by 50% in two generations.  Northern Europe would suffer similarly.

I spent a few hours today looking at our disastrous corn and soy bean crops here in Ohio.  It was unbelievable.  We have 20 feet of top soil and normally consistent rainfall.  The issue has been heat, insane amounts of it.

I will make short notices of two areas of technology which I will only follow up on with permission.

Weather control – HARP or hype?

America developed a weather technology.  It is not HAARP based but uses microwave.  As a journalist, I was included in classified tests in the Western United States.

The capability we were using involved creating rainfall within 500 miles, creating moderate output on demand.  The science went entirely over my head, which is good as it is also classified.

We set 7 days, a dry region, took predictions of NO rainfall and made it rain on command.  More tests are planned.

My paranoia tells me that I may have driven through 120 miles of area where such a device may have been used in a negative manner.

There are real droughts but when I see weather being manipulated, I get out my tin foil hat and see conspiracy.

I have no reason to believe this is true but, in an election year with gas prices being manipulated, destroying the corn crop would be a key political move.

I am officially suspicious and close enough to the project to submit a nice unscheduled “lawn watering” during a totally otherwise dry day for your community.  7 for 7 is enough lesson for me and those on the ground are on the US governments “highest credibility” list.

This is a dangerous technology, potentially capable of population destabilization by taking water and moving it elsewhere, tied to political influence, geopolitics and human greed.  I don’t think anyone involved is safe.

Anti-gravity is real

A primitive anti-gravity technology is going commercial.  We have been reporting on fusion technologies that are total game changers.  This isn’t there yet, development stage, limited power, limited time.

Here are the basics I can give out:

The tech can eliminate “mass” from, let us say, a moving vehicle, on command, for a short period of time,  Cars could turn corners at 80 mph.  Trains could go through curves by transferring weight or eliminating mass, car by car, for a few seconds at a time.

This is a breakthrough “science fiction” tech, but not up to “flying saucer” level work, not by a long shot.

Applications in the defense sector are mind boggling and improvements could end how Newtonian Physics work in our world entirely.

Right now, your Tahoe can carry a ton of kitty litter through a corner, flat and smooth, full bore. But there is one problem. Do you have a million dollars for an SUV?

These two technologies, these and dense plasma hydrogen boron fission exist…others too. All are suppressed, some potentially destabilizing, all moving into the public sector and Pandora’s box will be open.

I am on the new collider team, albeit counting pennies and looking at vacant land for Adamus Group.  We are creating tech that will make dreams come true if allowed.”Allowing” is well beyond my pay-grade.

The Solution to America’s Great Depression: Eliminate Welfare

Mike Stathis, Chief Investment Strategist, AVA Investment Analytics

Getting rid of welfare as a solution to America’s depression might sound like a counterproductive idea. But let’s take a closer look at why that just might represent the most viable option.

With close to 50 million Americans below the poverty line according to official estimates (my own estimates are between 70 to 80 million), and 50 million Americans on food stamps, eliminating the nation’s various welfare programs seems to contradict responsible solutions to fix the U.S. economy; or does it?

In addition to hundreds of billions of dollars earmarked for food and housing subsidies, America’s welfare system also consumes an even larger sum of tax dollars each year for public healthcare through Medicaid (and some Medicare, not including expenditures for seniors above the poverty line). As you can imagine, eliminating these sources of aid would lead to famine, additional homelessness, and unnecessary illness for tens of millions of Americans.

As bad as things may seem in other parts of the world, many nations outside of the U.S. are poised for a more optimistic future. As the global economy continues to face the corrective effects of the largest credit bubble in world history, much of the developing world stands a real chance to uproot puppet governments that have been put in place by the U.S. and U.K. Thus, citizens in many of these nations are blazing the path towards freedom.

Today, many of these nations face very dire consequences. After decades of suppression on various fronts, millions of low-income and working-class citizens have finally become intolerant to economic inequality that has been persistent even during periods of economic prosperity. The severity of the global economic collapse has finally inspired millions to rise up in protest. Soaring commodities prices have made basic necessities like food and water unattainable for many people residing in developing and emerging nations. This is adding incentive for revolts against the governments of these nations.

This inflationary wave has been enhanced by the Federal Reserve’s hidden bailout of the banking system; record-low interest rates that have persisted for nearly four years. These artificially suppressed rates have led to massive capital inflows to the developing and emerging world, compliments of the Jewish Banking Cartel.

Much like the case seen in Europe, in the beginning, the flood of capital boosted these economies. But this early prosperity was only an illusion created by the money changers. More recently, the side effects of this smoke and mirrors scheme have begun to surface. Excessive credit and investment inflows have led to excessive currency appreciation, inflation and other economic carnage.

More recently, some nations have begun to experience the effects of a sudden withdrawal of capital by the Banking Cartel. And I can assure you, things are going to get worse. The current economic downturn seen in the Brazilian economy serves as a blueprint for nations vulnerable to manipulation by this Banking Cartel. However, unlike Brazil, which has sufficient resources to ward off IMF intervention, smaller nations remain defenseless to a Greek-style takeover once the IMF comes in to “save the day.”

The recent LIBOR scam orchestrated by Barclays sent ripples across the globe. Yet, few seem to realize that the Federal Reserve has done the same thing in the U.S. on a much larger scale. The only difference is that they have window-dressed the manipulation of interest rates as a “solution” to address America’s stubbornly high unemployment rate.

But record-low interest rates have not helped the employment situation in the U.S. Instead of lending money at low rates to small businesses and consumers, banks have jacked up lending rates while making it extremely difficult to obtain loans.

The truth of the matter is that the chronic loss of jobs seen in the U.S. has less to do with demand and more to do with unfair trade arrangements struck with foreign nations. The two-decade long trend of job exportation seen in the U.S. has been largely due to the system of unfair trade established through NAFTA by the Clinton Administration, and subsequent phases of expansion during the Bush and Obama administrations.

The Federal Reserve’s interest rate scam has created a huge banking bailout that no one in the Western media has discussed. The beneficiary of these artificially suppressed interest rates has been Wall Street. Rather than an engine of job creation, these ridiculously low interest rates have served as an engine of wealth destruction, by causing pension deficits, both public and private to widen. Thus, the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy has boosted the balance sheets of Wall Street banks at the expense of pension plans.

The cost of this interest rate manipulation is already in the trillions of dollars, yet not one word about this from the media. The reason for the silence in this matter should be obvious. The Jewish Mafia uses its control of the media to cover up the crimes of Wall Street and the Federal Reserve.

As Wall Street continues to defraud Americans, there will be countless problems for many years. The pension problem alone is going to lower living standards for millions of Americans for several generations.

The corporate segment of the Jewish Mafia is also contributing to the demise of America through the continued exportation of U.S. jobs to Asia and Latin America, while failing to provide real wage growth in the face of excessive inflation for basic necessities.

Finally, Washington’s role cannot be overlooked. As these criminal puppets look to reduce the national debt they created by pushing for useless wars, tax benefits to the wealthy and to pay for Wall Street fraud, they are targeting massive cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. From this picture alone, you can see that millions of Americans have already been sentenced to permanently reduced living standards.

Despite all the treachery, the United States has an ace in the hole, providing it with the ability to prevent a complete socioeconomic meltdown. America’s diverse agricultural resources and enormous productive capabilities ensure that its people will never starve. Unlike other nations, the U.S. can supply amble food to every American with ease if needed.

More important, the petrodollar enables the U.S. to export inflation throughout the globe, insulating it from any possibility of hyperinflation, despite the claims made by charlatans flooded throughout the media.

The petrodollar (or what I often refer to as the dollar-oil link) is the key to the entire global chess match. With rare exception, you must have dollars to buy crude oil and other commodities in the commercial markets. This links the U.S. dollar to the price of oil, positioning it as a very critical resource fueling the U.S. economy. In fact, the petrodollar is the most powerful lever of the U.S. economy.

As strange as it may sound, the Saudi Royal Family works together with the Jewish Mafia. Using the dollar-oil link, the Federal Reserve taxes every nation in the world by exporting inflation, as it floods the financial system with credit.

Meanwhile, in exchange for selling oil for U.S. dollars, the Saudi Royal Family receives the unconditional support of the U.S. military against uprisings that might threaten to topple its regime. If a real threat of anarchy arises in Saudi Arabia, you can be assured that U.S. troops will be there to support the Royal Family if needed, as set forth in the original agreement made by President Nixon in the early 1970s. When you’re at the very top of the food chain, racial, ethnic and religious differences are meaningless. Money and power are all that matter to these people.

This was just one of the “controversial” topics I addressed in America’s Financial Apocalypse (2006). Addition details on the effects of diminished competitiveness of the U.S. due to Affirmative Action, the criminality of corporate America, Wall Street and Washington led to me being blacklisted by the entire media circuit shortly thereafter.

The economic benefits of the dollar-oil link emphasize the importance of the Saudis to the U.S. economy. In contrast, Israel provides no benefits whatsoever to the U.S., yet they too

receive the same (if not more) support afforded to Saudi Arabia. Today, the U.S.-Israel relationship has become a huge liability to the U.S. economy, in addition to its contributions to increased geopolitical instability.

Thus, as the Washington puppets continue to support the terrorist state of Israel, they are jeopardizing the survival of the dollar-oil link and thus the long-term trajectory of the U.S. economy. And the U.S. receives absolutely no benefits whatsoever from Israel for this support. Certainly, the Saudi Royal Family poses no threat to sever the dollar-oil link. However, millions of suppressed Saudi citizens threaten to overturn this dictatorship, which would pose a threat to this vital economic link.

Iranian officials know well that severing the link between the U.S. dollar and oil offers the easiest and most definitive means by which to permanently destroy the U.S. economy. But Iran’s ultimate target is the Zionist power matrix whose financial headquarters is based in the United States. This is specifically why Iran has been selling its crude oil for assets other than dollars. Saddam Hussein did the same thing in 2000, and we saw what happened to him; hence, the real reason why Washington wants war with Iran.

Iran’s actions alone pose no real threat to severing the dollar-oil link so long as OPEC holds its ground. And because the Saudis control OPEC, the petrodollar is likely to remain intact for many decades to come. Nevertheless, Israel has seized the opportunity to push Washington closer towards war with Iran by use of its propaganda machine, which as you can imagine, has very strong ties to the Western media monopoly.

The economic power created by the petrodollar enables Washington to provide welfare benefits to tens of millions of impoverished Americans even at a time when U.S. debt is at its highest level since WW2. Thus, as long as Washington continues to offer generous welfare programs, Americans are not likely to resort to the types of violent protests required for a regime change.

I’m not talking about a change of political parties. It is a well-established fact that both parties of the U.S. government are essentially the same. Clearly, each party is under the control of Israel and the Jewish Mafia.

When it comes to issues that matter most to Americans, such as the ability to secure a good job and affordable medical care, both political parties always agree; they are going to side with the banks and corporate America at any cost, even when it means millions of jobs are sent to Asia; even when it means one million Americans file for medical bankruptcy each year; even when it means the destruction of the U.S. Constitution.

The kind of regime change I am referring to is an overthrow of America’s fascist government. Specifically, I am talking about the capture and arrest of everyone in Washington for their role in political and economic treason; even Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. Past administrations are just as guilty. They have all participated in the destruction of the United States, its economy and its constitution. And they must be dealt with accordingly.

Tearing down America’s longstanding fascist regime would blaze the pathway for elimination of the Zionist control of the U.S., as well as the Jewish Mafia. This represents the only route towards freedom for the American people.

But as long as the criminal puppets in Washington continue to provide welfare benefits to tens of millions of Americans, the panic, anger and fear required for such a monumental act will be kept at a minimum. As a result, Americans won’t take to the streets. Complacency will enable the fascist government of the United States to continue to suppress its people and bully the world, as it has for several decades.

Without a regime change, the status quo in America will persist. Washington will continue to serve as a proxy for Israel, wasting trillions of dollars for useless wars; tragic wars costing millions of lives, maiming and killing millions of innocent people.

Without a regime change, Washington will continue to abolish individual freedoms and liberties towards their pursuit of a police state and global rule.

Without a regime change, Washington will continue to ignore anti-trust laws which are meant to prevent monopolies. They will continue to expand upon unfair trade policies at the expense of American jobs in order to boost profits of corporate America.

Without a regime change, corporate America will continue to suppress workers by outsourcing jobs and slashing employee benefits, while exploiting consumers through industry collusion and price gouging.

Without a regime change, Wall Street will continue to defraud investors. They will continue to orchestrate Ponzi schemes and engage in insider trading. And they will continue to partner with media crime bosses to carry out pump-and-dump schemes, such as those seen recently in the social media sector.

Without a regime change, Wall Street will continue to defraud retirement plans, thereby hastening the destruction of the middle class.

Without a regime change, the Federal Reserve will continue to manipulate the global economy, causing recessions and depressions. This will pave the way for the IMF to enter and seize the assets and sovereignty of more nations, one by one. The Jewish Mafia will divide and conquer as they have always done.

Without a regime change, private and public sector officials will continue to escape accountability for fraud, deception and even treason. And they will continue to utilize the revolving door.

Without a regime change, Americans will continue to suffer from the current depression, and the nation’seconomic trajectory will continue to decline indefinitely.

Without a regime change, the perpetual wave of securities, taxpayer and other types of white collar fraudcarried out by Wall Street, the Federal Reserve, Washington and corporate America will create even more Jewish billionaires and gentile puppets at the expense of Main Street. And they will use this money to ensure that Washington remains under their control. Nothing good will come of this for the American people.

Thus, the best chance America has to reclaim its country from the corporate crooks, Banking Cartel and political puppets is to get rid of its welfare program; doing so will encourage millions of Americans to do what they should have done decades ago; dismantle the criminal power matrix that serves as the foundation of America’s fascist establishment, and create a government run by the people and for the people, as was originally intended.

War Without Mercy in Syria

by Stephen Lendman

If wars had labels, Syria’s conflict would be called Made in America.

Paul Wolfowitz and other Project for the New American Century (PNAC) ideologues planned it years ago. They also targeted half a dozen or more other countries.

PNAC’s Statement of Principles called for “shap(ing) a new century favorable to American principles and interests.” Doing so it said requires:

  • “increase(ing) defense spending significantly;”
  • “challeng(ing) regimes hostile to our interests and values;” and
  • “accept(ing) responsibility for American’s unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles.”

PNAC effectively declared war. Independent nations were targeted. Implementing policy required a “catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor.”

False flags provide pretexts for militarism, wars, occupations, domestic repression, national security state extremism, and other policies antithetical to free and open societies. PNAC members got what they wanted.

They comprise a rogues gallery of hardcore neocon extremists. Charter members included Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, William Kristol, Jeb Bush, and others.

In 2009, PNAC reinvented itself as the Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI). Policies remain unchanged. Regime change in Syria is prioritized. Direct intervention is urged.

Obama is criticized for inaction. “What is clear,” it says, is that America “sent a horrible message to tyrants elsewhere about the (non-existent) costs of mass killings of innocents.”

FPI knows Washington bears full responsibility. It’s not enough. FPI wants full-scale war initiated.

September 11, 2001 was the Big Lie of our time. It was a classic false flag. It launched a decade of wars against Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Palestine. Proxy wars rage in Syria, Somalia, Yemen, Bahrain, and elsewhere.

Full-scale ones are planned against Syria and Iran. The road to Tehran runs through Damascus. Western and/or regional intervention looks certain.

Proxies alone can’t match Syria’s superior military capability. Expect Libya 2.0 in some form. Initiating it could happen any time or might follow US November elections. Electoral priorities dictate policy.

On August 11, Reuters headlined “US, Turkey to study Syria no-fly zone,” saying:

Discussions were held about establishing it. No decision was made. During her Ankara visit, Hillary Clinton said further “analysis and operational planning” is needed.

No-fly zones assure war. Gaddafi’s air defenses and command and control capability were bombed after implementing one in Libya. Safe zones are ground based no-fly zones. They also assure war.

On August 12, Today’s Zaman headlined “Turkey signals to US, may go ahead ‘solo’ with safety zones in Syria,” saying:

Ankara “made it clear that it will go ahead with setting up ‘safety zone’ pockets inside Syrian territory to handle the mounting humanitarian crisis.”

Turkey calls it “a significant national security threat.” Ankara and Washington “will press for a UN Security Council resolution mandating the establishment of ‘protective enclaves’ within Syria so that potential refugees will be taken care of inside Syria.”

“This will be complemented by military measures that may include a no-fly zone and restriction of troop movements loyal to the embattled leader of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, in areas close to the border.”

Unnamed Turkish diplomats said “Ankara will go ahead with its own planning” if Russia and/or China veto a supportive resolution.

According to Moscow-based Institute of Strategic Assessments Adzhar Kurtov:

“An analogy with what happened in Libya is hard to ignore here, but the decision to establish a no-fly zone over Libya was made by the UN Security Council, which is still able to make balanced decisions.”

“However, the Americans may try to make it happen in circumvention of the Council, which will set the stage for a ground operation and we already see signs of this in the recent concentrations of armor and artillery along the country’s border with Turkey and Jordan.”

Meanwhile, new reports of insurgent atrocities surfaced. On August 13, Russia Today headlined “Syrian atrocity: Bodies of postal workers thrown from roof,” saying:

Amateur video footage showed it. Bodies were thrown from a post office rooftop. Other corpses were rolled down stairs. Responsibility points to Free Syrian Army (FSA) elements or supporters. They “intentionally target civil servants backing the regime.”

RT said 1.5 million public employees are vulnerable. “Doctors, teachers and municipal workers risk kidnappings or assassinations for simply doing their jobs.”

Dr. Ammar Safi told RT about documents confirming an FSA hit list. Scientists, physicians, and civil servants are targeted. His airline pilot brother Ammar was attacked en route home from the airport.

Other amateur video footage showed Assad loyalist mass executions in Aleppo. Bloodied men were forced to kneel and be machine gunned to death. Militants murdered Syrian state TV host Mohammed al-Saeed.

Pro-regime journalists are vulnerable. SANA state media said its reporter Ali Abbas was killed at home in Damascus. A bomb blast killed another journalist covering a story in a Damascus suburb.

On August 6, a state-run television and radio building was bombed. Foreign journalists use it for broadcasts. Three injuries were reported. Operations continued during the incident.

In late June, insurgents attacked the privately owned Al-Ikhbariaya TV station. It’s located 20 km south of Damascus. Gunmen raided the station. Seven employees were killed. Others were kidnapped.

Al-Ikhbariya’s compound sustained heavy damage. Nonetheless, broadcasts resumed shortly after the attack. Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi called it “a massacre against the freedom of the press.” Terrorists were responsible, he said.

UK journalist/broadcaster Neil Clark told RT that insurgent violence engenders more Assad support. If opposition elements thought Syrians backed them, “it is the other way around now, he said.”

“We had people who supported Assad at the beginning. I mean a lot of people not sure which way to go. They actually are being turned off by the atrocities you outlined,” he added.

“And I would say that possibly the support for President Assad is stronger now than back in March, 2011.”

Syria Tribune editor-in-chief Ali Mohamad told RT:

“Every time (insurgents) call for foreign intervention they are just reassuring everybody that they cannot do anything on the ground.” They lost Damascus.” They’re being routed in Aleppo.

“If they claim they have popular support as they have been saying for 17 months why do they need foreign intervention?”

In late June, the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) issued a duplicitous Syria report. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay spurned her mandate.

Instead of responsibly “strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights,” she defiled them in deference to Western interests.

She pointed fingers the wrong way. She ignored Western-sponsored massacres and other atrocities. She blamed Assad, not foreign mercenaries. She shamelessly represents imperial interests. She and HRC lost credibility.

On August 9, UNC’s media center headlined “Syria: Severe internal displacement crisis due to disregard for human rights and humanitarian law – UN expert.”

According to London School of Economics law lecturer/UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Chaloka Beyani:

“The intense fighting and use of heavy weaponry in densely populated areas are a major concern. More and more people are being forced daily to flee their homes as a result of escalating violence, and are seeking refuge in host families, schools and makeshift shelters.”

Beyani blamed Assad. He called on him and Syrian authorities to respect international law. He ignored reality on the ground.

Syria was invaded. Its army responsibly confronts militants. Beyani pointed fingers the wrong way. He ignored insurgent atrocities. His concern for human rights stopped short of blaming Western recruited death squads for violating them.

Like Pillay, he serves imperial interests. Both support state sponsored terrorism and genocide. Syria is being ravaged and destroyed. Confronting insurgents takes a toll. No end of conflict is imminent.

Imagine a nation left in ruins. Washington wants all independent ones devastated. Ordinary people suffer most. Many more will die before conflict ends. Perhaps Syria won’t be fit to live in when it does. Imperial policy demands it.

Savage Geller bus ad hits San Francisco Muni

Savage ad

Last month a federal judge in New York City ruled the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) violated the first amendment rights of the Islamophobic group, American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), when MTA rejected a racist political ad the group wanted to place on the sides of city buses. AFDI, led by Pam Geller and Robert Spencer of the anti-Muslim blog Jihad Watch, is the umbrella group of Stop Islamization of America.

New York Times:

21ad articleInline

The group, the American Freedom Defense Initiative, had proposed an ad that said, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man.”

Then, between two Stars of David, the ad said: “Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”

The transportation authority said the ad violated its prohibition on ads that demeaned individuals or groups on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin and five other specific categories. The group was given the opportunity to revise the ad, but it refused, and claimed in a lawsuit that the agency’s “no demeaning” language restriction was unconstitutional.

The judge, Paul A. Engelmayer of Federal District Court, ruled that the rejected ad was “not only protected speech — it is core political speech,” expressing a “pro-Israel perspective on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict” and implicitly calling “for a pro-Israel U.S. foreign policy with regard to that conflict.”

As such, the judge held, the ad “is afforded the highest level of protection under the First Amendment.”

On the same day, impacted by the result of that court ruling in Manhattan, San Francisco’s Municipal Transportation Agency approved Geller’s ads.

San Francisco’s ABC7 News:

San Francisco’s Municipal Transportation Agency has a policy against political ads on its buses, but an ad being displayed now comes pretty close. The ad says, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat jihad.”

James Ashburn was surprised when he saw his bus roll up with the ad on the side. “It really struck me as an inappropriate ad to be on a city bus,” he said. Ashburn took a picture of the ad and sent it to ABC7 News via uReport. He thought the ad crossed a line. “No matter what side you’re on, you should not describe your opponent as a savage,” he said.

The truth being in the eye of the beholder, ABC7 News showed the ad to Muslims going into Friday prayers at a San Francisco mosque. Adam Kennard called it propaganda. Ted Oriqat pointed out that the ad distorts the meaning of jihad. “Jihad, it doesn’t mean killing people or anything like that,” he said. And Oriqat is correct. Jihad means “struggle” and is frequently used as in “striving towards the way of God.”

The bus message didn’t sit very well with the city system in New York. They refused to run them and Geller took the transit authority to court. “And interestingly enough, the day that I won, was the day that San Francisco approved my ads that are currently running on your buses,” Geller said.

“A coincidence? Not according to Muni’s spokesman Paul Rose. “In this specific case, litigation was brought to this organization and the transit agency lost,” he told ABC7 News……..Asked how this particular ad is not considered political in light of Muni’s no-politics policy, Rose struggled to answer. However, the legal action and the fact that the New York MTA has already lost in court have had an impact. “

It is astounding Pamela Geller’s horrific ‘savage’ ads have come to our beautiful city by the bay. This has backfire written all over it and should open the floodgates in a wide ranging way. It will be impossible for SF Muni to refuse counter ads under these circumstances.

Iran confident IsraHell won’t launch ‘stupid’ attack

Iran on Tuesday said it is dismissing Israeli threats of an imminent attack against it, explaining that even some Israeli officials realised such a “stupid” act would provoke “very severe consequences.”

“In our calculations, we aren’t taking these claims very seriously because we see them as hollow and baseless,” foreign ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told reporters in a weekly briefing.

“Even if some officials in the illegitimate regime (Israel) want to carry out such a stupid action, there are those inside (the Israeli government) who won’t allow it because they know they would suffer very severe consequences from such an act,” he said.

Iran’s defence minister, General Ahmad Vahidi, was quoted by the ISNA news agency saying that Israel “definitely doesn’t have what it takes to endure Iran’s might and will.”

He called the Israeli threats “a sign of weakness” by “brainless leaders.”

The comments were a response to bellicose rhetoric from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Ehud Barak in recent days suggesting they were thinking more seriously of military action against Iranian nuclear facilities.

“We are determined to prevent Iran from becoming nuclear (armed), and all the options are on the table. When we say it, we mean it,” Barak told Israeli radio last Thursday.

Israeli media have underlined the threat, reporting that a decision could be made within weeks. They have also highlighted opposition to the idea by current and former Israeli military officials.

The United States has recently multiplied visits by top officials to Israel in what appears to be an attempt to dissuade the Jewish state from targeting the Islamic republic.

“We continue to believe there is time and space for diplomacy,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said on Monday.

Israel insists that Iran is on the point of developing nuclear weapons, and says it reserves the right to act to prevent that.

The Jewish state has in the past launched air strikes to destroy nuclear facilities in Iraq and, reportedly, in Syria to protect its own regional nuclear weapons monopoly, whose existence it refuses to officially confirm.

Iran says its nuclear programme is exclusively for peaceful, civilian uses.

In the past couple of years it has ramped up uranium enrichment to a level just a few steps short of military-grade fissile material, saying those stocks are needed to create medical isotopes. It has also refused UN nuclear inspectors access to suspect military installations.

Renewed negotiations between Iran and the five top UN Security Council powers, plus Germany, have taken place this year. They have been downgraded after it became clear they were in an impasse, but not ended.

In the meantime, Iran is suffering from increasingly tough US and EU economic sanctions that have crippled its all-important oil exports.

CIA Allegedly Overseeing Arms Into Syria

Syrian opposition officials say that the CIA is controlling the weapons flow to Syrian insurgents.

Syrian opposition officials claim the CIA is controlling weapons flow to Syrian insurgents.

“Not one bullet enters Syria without U.S. approval,” a Syrian opposition, speaking in Istanbul, told The Australian newspaper.

“The Americans want the (rebellion) to continue but they are not allowing enough supplies in to make the Damascus regime fall.”

The allegations, if true, reveal a division between the U.S. State Department, whose stated policy is to assist the removal of the regime of President Bashar Assad and U.S. intelligence services, which are, Syrian opposition forces say, attempting to monitor and manage the tempo of the Syrian insurgency’s armed efforts against the regime, The Australian reported Monday.

The Syrian civil war, the murkiest and most violent result of the “Arab Spring” uprisings which began last year, is being assisted by covert agents not only from the United States but Britain, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Iran as Syria devolves into a regional struggle for power in Damascus.

This has turned Turkey’s border provinces, which share a 550-mile-long border with Syria, into a miasmic swamp of arms dealers, intelligence operatives and potential jihadis.

Since the political upheaval in Syria, more than 50,000 refugees have crossed the Syrian border into Turkey. Heightening the tensions between the neighboring states, on June 22 the Syrian military shot down a Turkish air force jet.

Ankara subsequently invoked Chapter IV of the NATO charter to convene an extraordinary meeting of NATO members. However, Turkey didn’t invoke the charter’s Chapter V, requiring the assistance of fellow alliance members, over the Syrian attack.

A Syrian opposition official told The Australian that while the CIA has blocked shipments of heavy anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons, which Free Syrian Army insurgents maintain are essential in toppling the Assad regime, they have approved supplies of Russian-made AK-47 rifles and 10,000 Russian-made rocket-propelled grenades.

As for logistics the official noted, “The weapons are being carried across the border on donkeys.”

There are indications that more advanced military equipment might be reaching the Syrian insurgents. On Monday Syrian, Free Syrian Army rebels said that they shot down a government Russian-made MiG-23 fighter jet near the city of Deir az Zour, and the guerrillas subsequently posted video of the attack on YouTube.

The Syrian government media reported that the jet crashed due to “a technical malfunction” and that the pilot ejected safely and was being sought after “a technical failure occurred while the aircraft was on a training flight,” causing the aircraft’s controls to “break down,” forcing the pilot to eject.

An Israel Radio report and Syrian opposition sources said the Free Syrian Army captured the downed pilot.

Since the “Arab Spring” affected Syria in March 2011, the conflict there has killed as many as 20,000 Syrians, estimates by Syrian opposition groups and the United Nations say

IsraHell’s Plan for Syria: Somalisation

By Israel Shamir

Israel retains its ability to control the Syrian ‘Islamist’ rebels. Netanyahu is not worried about Syria’s possible disintegration. Despite the received wisdom claiming that Israelis prefer a stable and familiar Assad to the great unknown of Islamic guerrillas, the new and sensational information we received points out to the opposite, namely: Israelis prefer the Somalisation of Syria, its break-up and the elimination of its army, as this will allow them to tackle Iran unopposed.

This is implied in a secret file recently leaked by a person(s) apparently close to the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Lieberman. It contains a record of conversations between Bibi Netanyahu, Avigdor Lieberman and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the latter’s recent visit to Israel. Israelis seem to have no doubts about its authenticity. Counterpunch received the original file, and here are the highlights of this conversation (in our translation from Hebrew):

● Netanyahu asked Putin to facilitate Bashar Assad’s departure. “You can appoint his successor, and we shall not object , said the Israeli Prime Minister. “There is one condition – the successor must break with Iran».
● Putin responded: we have no candidate for Bashar’s successor. Do you?
● No, we don’t, replied Netanyahu, but we shall tell you our preference soon.

Apparently, Israel can influence the rebels, inasmuch as it can bear on them to accept a successor acceptable to Tel Aviv. This means that the rebels’ chain of command goes beyond unruly field commanders, beyond Qatar and Saudi Arabia, beyond Paris and Washington, all the way to Israel. It is well known that the rebels seek friendship with Israel, but nobody thought that Israel was able to control them to such an extent.

It stands to reason that Netanyahu had received a green light from Washington to make such an offer. This means that the US and Israel do not mind that Syria will remain in the Russian sphere of influence, so long as it cuts its ties with Iran. And this points to Israel as being the moving force behind the rebels, for otherwise, such an arrangement would be unacceptable for the Americans.

However, it is possible that Netanyahu’s offer was just a ploy to discover Russian intentions. Anyway Putin thought so, and answered in a similar vein:

● “We are not beholden to Assad,” said Putin. “Before the rebellion, he was a frequent visitor in Paris rather than in Moscow. We have no secret agenda regarding Syria. I asked President Obama, what are the US intentions in Syria; why do Americans reject Assad. Is it because of his inability to come to terms with Israel? Or because of his ties with Iran? Because of his position on Lebanon? I received no serious answer. Our reason, said Obama, is Assad’s violent repression of the Syrian people. I replied that violence is caused by Qatar and Saudi interference.”

One understands that Putin is befogged: if he has been offered keeping Syria in the Russian sphere, why does the US goes out against Syrian government? Perhaps, the US is doing Israel’s bidding? And what are Israel’s intentions?

● “Israel’s goal is the Somalisation of Syria, following the Somalisation of Iraq,” said Putin, and Netanyahu did not deny his interpretation.

These hard words of Putin answer the question of the US and Israeli intentions. This was the position of Israeli strategist Yinon and of the Neocons – Somalisation of the region. Israeli leaders still follow their high-risk short-term strategy of unleashing civil war in Syria, removing Assad and turning Syria into a mess of armed groups that would not interfere with Israeli jets reaching Iran. It is certainly risky, as it was risky to attack Lebanon in 2006, but Israel has such a powerful militarist complex that it needs to take otherwise unneeded risks.

The record of the Putin-Netanyahu conversation contains two important Russian concessions to Israel: Putin promised to break their contract about supply of S-300 anti-aircraft missile complexes to Damascus (and so he did) and to stop missile information leakage to Hezbollah.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman used the meeting to complain about the audacious RT channel:

● “The Israeli office of the RT outpours anti-Israeli propaganda. They broadcast talks with Hasan Nasrallah [probably a reference to Julian Assange’s interview]. We spoke to the RT reporters privately, but they won’t budge, citing instructions from Moscow. Vladimir Vladimirovitch [Putin], please lean on the editorial policy of the RT so it will become objective towards Israel.”

This complaint fits well with Israeli practice of pressuring foreign media. Recently the Israeli ambassador to Washington attempted to interfere with CBS and censor Bob Simon’s report on Palestinian Christians, causing much resentment in the US. Israelis still can’t get used to the existence of a relatively free press.

The main conclusion of the leaked protocols is that Israeli leaders retained their love to live dangerously. While some other countries, notably Russia, are seeking stability, Israelis love play, and power play. Nothing risked, nothing gained, they say. They are ready to accept short term risks for long term gains. And elimination of the Syrian army is certainly a long term gain for Israel.
PS This record was confirmed by Haaretz reporters, see RT tweets.
