Islam and the Arab Awakening

On Tuesday evening, Politics and Prose bookstore hosted a discussion of the newly-released book “Islam and the Arab Awakening” with its author Dr. Tariq Ramadan, Professor of Islamic Studies at Oxford University andPresident of the European Muslim Network. Ramadan provided an overview of the main arguments presented in his book. He first stated that “the awakening of the Arabic mind is irreversible” and referred to the dramatic changes that have happened in the region as an “intellectual revolution,” noting that the dimensions of these transformations are not only political. In this context, he asserted that there will be no genuine democracy in the region without accompanying economic stability.
He then stated that a serious challenge to the development of successful Arab democracies is that political discourse is often oversimplified and reduced to a black-and-white dichotomy of Islamists vs. secularists.
With regards to having Arab countries look towards the West for models of flourishing democracies, Ramadan reminded the audience that there are fundamental challenges to Western democracies today, perhaps most notably the dominance of transnational corporations and banks in national policy formation, both of which are institutions outside the confines of democratic procedures (given that they are not elected bodies, there are not effective mechanisms for holding them accountable to the people). He argued that one way citizens in Western democracies can help support the democratic transitions of the Arab world is by being vocal and informed citizens who are conscious and critical of the flaws in their own democracies.
Ramadan proceeded to outline the five most prominent challenges to transitioning Arab democracies in his opinion: determining the exact nature of the state, presenting economic visions for the future, increasing the quality of education, promoting and protecting arts and culture, and determining ways to combat pervasive corruption.
First, regarding the nature of the state, Ramadan alluded to the Turkish approach of “a civil state with an Islamic reference” and stated that there are several fundamental principles that should be seen as nonnegotiable elements fully incorporated to the state, including respect for the rule of law, equal citizenship, balance of powers, accountability, and the separation of religion and the state. However with regard to the latter, he also noted that separating religion from the state does not necessarily mean the removal of ethics from politics; in fact, Ramadan argued that all faith traditions should lead the movement to bring more ethical values back into politics.
Second, regarding economic visions for the future, he argued that many Islamists currently in power embrace neoliberal economic policies, but that this could breed problems later down the road. For example, Egypt’s President Morsi has recently demonstrated his willingness to accept an IMF loan and this could alleviate short-term economic woes (helping him gain popularity); however, the application of such neo-liberal principles could generate greater inequality and strife over the long-run.
The fifth and final challenge Ramadan presented was finding effective ways to combat with corruption that pervades all levels of many Arab societies. In this context, he stated that Islam could play a positive role by serving as an ethical reference that inspires and motivates this necessary fight against corruption.
During the question and answer session, one participant asked Ramadan why we should have any hope in Arab democracies succeeding when Islam mandates that God (rather than the people) is sovereign and when Muslim-majority countries have a bad record of protecting minority rights. To this Ramadan responded by asking the audience not to have blind hope in Arabs or even necessarily to trust the statements made by Islamists in power, but rather to provide critical support to their democratic transitions on the basis of principle, and most importantly to not project stereotypes or let our own conceptions dictate how we interpret the changes in their complex transitioning societies. To this he added that all genuine political actors (including Islamists now in power) are pragmatists, so it is important to recognize that their decisions are driven by the desire for re-election.
Another participant asked Ramadan what his advice would be to the Obama administration regarding support for the Arab transitions, and he responded that his policy advice to any country is to be consistent with its principles and to support the people of Arab nations more than their armies. Furthermore, Ramadan asked the audience, and all American citizens, to help re-evaluate and deconstruct our approach to understanding Arab democracies, stating that ultimately ordinary citizens can do much more to transform this debate and overturn stereotypes than an intellectual like himself ever could. Finally, Ramadan argued that we are in need of an intellectual jihad that promotes discipline and resists the emotional politics that is exploited both by fear-mongering populist politicians in the West and now by some Salafi political actors in the Arab world.

The so-called “Arab Spring” Pays Back in Dollars: Arabs Answer to the US Violence

By Roy Tov
There is no doubt that the “Arab Spring” is a string of carefully coordinated attacks by the Americans on the Arab World. It has been denounced so repeatedly by Russia and China, which provided plenty of proofs, including convincing testimony of made-up events and photographs by the American media. Not only does the Western media ignore these accusations, but it also misleads the public. In the specific case of Libya, it presented the revolution as a popular uprising against Kaddafi. In February 2011, we were told by Western media that the Arab Spring had reached Libya. However, those paying attention to details, noticed something odd in the reports: the so called “popular protests” began by a group of mercenaries taking control of Benghazi, near the Egyptian border. They had entered Libya from Egypt.
In May the rebels took the city of Misrata and things began looking bad for Muammar Kaddafi’s government. On, August 23, the rebels took control of Bab al-Aziziya, the government complex in Tripoli. Kaddafi escaped, but shortly after he was caught and assassinated.Instead of a popular rebellion, we watched the advance of an unknown infantry army backed up by the air force ofNato’s Terror Marshals. In the West, the rebels became known as the “National Transitional Council” and were recognized as Libya’s legal government for unclear reasons; after all they have not been elected by the people.Opposing the barbaric attacks of NATO on civilians were China, Russia and Venezuela. The Third War is a strange one.Aware of being widely recognized as a systemic aggressor by the international community, the USA conducted its latest belligerent project from afar through carefully coordinated forces of mercenaries and NATO.Yet, people know the truth, no matter how much disinformation the CNN bombs us with in the aftermath of NATO bombings.
The Arab World understand who is behind the attacks of the last two years.Once upon a time, there was a Kingdom of Justice and Light. It didn’t offer justice, and the only light it offered was interrogation lamps. For a while it worked and its marshals comfortably conquered and robbed vast parts of the world.Eventually, people woke up. They understood that the American people are not free, and thus cannot possibly be exporting freedom. They understood that the American people are not democratic, and thus cannot possibly be exporting democracy.Regardless of the party controlling the White House, America has only one message: war and hatred for anything different. On September 11, 2012, a series of protests against American missions in Egypt and Libya began and expanded to much of the Arab World.
The most violent manifestation was in Benghazi, Libya; it resulted in the death of the American ambassador who was visiting the city. The message was not very subtle: the attack of last year on Libya can be reversed, Benghazi was the city chosen by the Americans to begin what they called “popular resistance.”During the Third War, America found a strange reality. It got paid back not in spades but in dollars, using the same currency of violence it so cherishes.

”’A VIOLATION OF INTERNATIONAL LAW” …Conflating Spaces: Syrian Rebels and Refugees in South Turkey
There are worrying signs that refugee camps in Turkey are being used by Syria’s armed opposition. Not only does this violate basic humanitarian principles but it alters the dynamics of Syria’s conflict, argue Mark Naftalin and Kristian Berg Harpviken What do we know?Whilst neither systematic nor endemic, the conflation of two supposedly divergent entities – combatants and non-combatants, and the distinct spaces they should respectively occupy – is prevalent, organized and typically overlooked by both analysts and humanitarian practitioners. Some camps provide not just rest and recuperation facilities for the Free Syrian Army (FSA) but are used as organizational, logistical and coordination hubs by the rebels and their supporters.
Elsewhere the FSA are undertaking direct and voluntary recruitment of refugees who go on to moonlight as anti-government fighters. Others have joined the FSA out of their own volition with minimal initial synergy with the group.Yet, today, the humanitarian, peaceful and civilian character of asylum amongst those fleeing Syria is threatened. In Turkey – Syria’s northern neighbor and, with 80,000 registered individuals, host to one of the largest official Syrian refugee populations – refugee camps are not the exclusive preserve of civilians but are also utilized by those committed to overthrowing the regime in Damascus The blurring of distinctions between refugees and rebels is not new. Since the 1990s when rebels from Rwanda, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Sudan and elsewhere entered refugee camps at will, the UN has become increasingly mindful of what is broadly categorized as ‘refugee militarization’.
Over the last decade, the UN has implemented a variety of preventive measures and operational guidelines that have, to varying extents, alleviated the proliferation of armed rebels in and around refugee camps.Nevertheless, as the camps along the Turkish-Syrian border illustrate, the immersion of rebel groups into refugee populations continues to present a legal, humanitarian and logistical quagmire for UNHCR, the UN agency whose primary purpose is to safeguard refugees and their rights in accordance with international law and humanitarian principles.Even describing individuals in Turkey as refugees is itself somewhat of a misnomer. The country has established a two-tiered asylum policy whereby those originating from non-European countries are accorded ‘temporary protection status’ as opposed to full refugee status. Such temporary status affords significantly less legal and practical protection than that enshrined in the 1951 Refugee Convention.
The multitude of preventive measures and operational guidelines developed by UNHCR to guarantee the civilian, peaceful and humanitarian character of refugee camps, which are always open to interpretation, have been largely dismissed by the host state. What should we expect?Determining how this issue will evolve is dependent on the course of the current crisis, the nature of displacement and the relationship between Damascus and Ankara. Presently, lucidity dictates that the enabling environment is unlikely to markedly change and the nexus between refugee and rebel space will continue and, perhaps, expand.First, the 822 kilometer border remains porous with Turkey’s proposals to establish a humanitarian safe zone in northern Syria having failed. The result is that without a ‘buffer’ along Turkey’s southern border, rebels are free to circulate between the refugee camps in Turkey and areas of combat in northern Syria.Second, and related, eight of the twelve present refugee camps lie within a few kilometers of the volatile border and are mostly contiguous with rebel strongholds in Syria.
At least two of the remaining four camps are located within fifty kilometers of the border – the minimum recommended distance where camps should be positioned in large part to mitigate circumstances such as these. This is unlikely to change significantly. Just one of the four new camps currently under construction will be located at a distance greater than fifty kilometers from the border.Third, the camps lie in close proximity to FSA safehouses, bases and fighters within southern Turkey along with external supporters, Turkish military outposts and defecting Syrian government soldiers. As a result, an assortment of interested actors party to the conflict are able to access the camps and establish crude networks of resources and personnel..
Fifth, refugees harbor strong grievances against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Many have concluded that, with no sign of hostilities ending and massacres and indiscriminate bombing by Syria’s armed forces continuing, it is time to join the FSA. The refugee population in Turkey has more than tripled since late May/early June and the tented camps are filled to bursting point which has further amplified resentment amongst the refugees.Sixth, the FSA is a disparate and decentralized rubric of former army soldiers, local militias, Salafists, armed volunteers and, on occasion, criminal groups. Hence, attempting to influence the behavior of the rebels and maintain an overarching command and control over Syria’s armed opposition is problematic.Lastly, there is compelling evidence to suggest that Turkish authorities – ultimately responsible for preserving the peaceful character of refuge – are at the very least condoning the FSA and refugee conflation within its territory and, at times, actively promoting it.
Indeed, formerly supportive of al-Assad, Turkey is now an ardent critic of Syria’s President and wants regime change in Damascus. The FSA’s nominal leadership has long been located in Turkey and is reportedly receiving support from Milli İstihbarat Teşkilatı (MIT), Turkey’s national intelligence organization. That support is likely to grow as Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the MIT increasingly accuse al-Assad of supporting Turkey’s restive Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).Why is it problematic?Within the context of the unfolding events in Syria, it is tempting to disregard the activities along the Syrian-Turkish border. Why should it matter if rebel and refugee spaces collide when the general consensus – notwithstanding a divided UN Security Council – is one of support to the FSA and a desire to remove President Bashar al-Assad? Or, put differently, why is this an issue that should not be ignored?
The convergence of refugees and rebels is in direct contravention of established international laws, principles and norms. Refugee camps should be sanctuaries from violence not conveyors of it. Separating agents of conflict from those escaping it should be sacrosanct – as emphasized by António Guterres, the head of UNHCR, at the most recent UN Security Council meeting on Syria. Refugees in Turkey do not get the humanitarian protection they rightfully deserve, and, by extension, the foundational rights of refugees and the very taxonomy of asylum are compromised. The militarization of refugees and the space they occupy alters the trajectory of violence, the configuration and contours of the conflict and prospects for its resolution. It creates opportunities for additional mobilization, resource acquisition or sanctuary and changes the FSA operational calculus. Furthermore, fighters in the borderlands separating Syria and Turkey exacerbate the contagion of violence and insecurity in an already complex regional milieu. In short, it contributes to the protractness of the conflict.

The Syrian army is believed to have tested missile systems for poison gas shells at the end of August, statements from various witnesses indicate. The tests took place near a chemical weapons research center at Safira east of Aleppo, witnesses told Spiegel. A total of five or six empty shells devised for delivering chemical agents were fired by tanks and aircraft, at a site called Diraiham in the desert near the village of Khanasir. Iranian officers believed to be members of the Revolutionary Guards were flown in by helicopter for the testing, according to the statements. Syria is believed to have one of the world’s largest arsenals of chemical weapons. The Safira research center is regarded as Syria’s largest testing site for chemical weapons.
It is officially referred to as a “scientific research center.” Scientists from Iran and North Korea are said to work in the expansive, fenced-off complex. According to Western intelligence agencies, they produce chemical agents such as sarin, tabun and mustard gas and test them on animals. In recent months, the guards have been replaced and reinforced by more than 100 elite troops from the 4th Tank Division. In addition, power generators and large supplies of diesel have recently been brought to the plant to safeguard the supply of electricity in the event of an attack by rebels, reports say. But the rebels don’t plan to take the site. One former army officer who deserted and joined the Free Syrian Army said:
We hope US troops will secure the plant. We don’t want the regime to be able to use the weapons, but neither do we want them to fall into the hands of radicals after the downfall.
SYRIA WATCH-Fake video purporting to show Syrian Gas victims
This has been posted on LL and YT purporting to show ‘innocent Syrian victims’ of Government gas attacks. In fact it is a total fake. The victims are smiling and everyone is enjoying themselves. Most likely its a deliberate fake though it’s possibly a video of a Civil Defence exercise.Yet another lame exercise by the FSA terrorists and their very stupid supporters on LL.

This is the third in a four-part series of exerpts from Endgame: The Blueprint for Victory in the War on Terror, by Thomas G. McInerney and Paul E. Vallely
The Syrian regime has little popular support–and its leaders know it. While impressive to some on paper, Syria’s military is unimpressive in reality. In short, Syria cannot bargain from a position of strength and, therefore, it would be unconscionable for the United States to delay acting quickly and decisively to cut Syria out of the Web of Terror.Syria is a domino waiting to fall. It is an enormous supporter of terrorism–but it lacks the oil wealth of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Libya, and Iraq. Facing the Mediterranean Sea, Syria is an ideal place to use America’s dominant sea and air power. Coalition forces would move quickly into Syria and the Bekaa Valley, guiding precision air strikes on terrorist training camps, harassing any terrorists who flee U.S. air assaults, and seeking storage sites for weapons of mass destruction. Delivering reinforcements quickly at key points would be a relatively simple affair.
For their part, the Syrians hope to give the United States just enough cooperation to prevent military action, and perhaps even gain economic aid, while continuing to serve as the conduit of Iran’s support to Palestinian terror groups and aiding the broader Web of Terror. The United States must end Syria’s double game immediately by issuing an ultimatum to Syria’s president, Bashar Assad: expel all terror groups from Syrian soil and Syrian-controlled Lebanon, give up all Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, and stop letting Iranian cadres, weapons, and money pass through your country to Palestinian terror groups–or the United States and a coalition of the willing will topple your regime.Bashar Assad should be made to realize that he has two options: cooperate with the civilized world against terror, as Colonel Gaddafi is apparently doing, or be toppled like Saddam Hussein.

Cynthia McKinney

1. The scenario of an anti-Islamic hate film triggering a protest that leads to violence replicates the events that took place in the initial uprising in Benghazi in early 2011.At that time, the annual protest in Benghazi against the anti-Islamic Danish cartoons was taking place. The march was infiltrated by persons with an agenda, who used the event as an opportunity to seize military equipment from the Jamahiriya government and use it against the Libyan population. If it is known that Muslim protest on the streets can be touched off by attacking the Qur’an, then once again parties with another agenda can spark then infiltrate that protest and use it as cover. It worked before to launch an entire chain of events in Libya, why not again? The reports on who created and financed the film are very muddled.

2. Today, the Libyan/Al Qaeda/US/NATO/Israel government is bombing Sabha and the black Libyan Toubu people who constitute a stronghold of the vibrant Libyan resistance.Interestingly, no R2P is being invoked to do so here, but could this be covertly directed against the Green Resistance (self-described as well financed and ready to fight to the last bullet, the last man, the last dollar)?
3. A video is available of the 12 September attack on the US convoy that killed 2 US citizens and injured 14, indicating Day Two of an uprising/action.4. There are photos published today of US special ops forces landing in Libya. If true, is this to counter the Green Resistance, or springboard into Egypt if need be, or worse? Foreign troops are in Libya already securing oil platforms. What might this have to do with Iran? Libyan oil was theorized to ensure oil to Europe in the case of a shutoff from Iran. Does this have anything to do with the impending Netanyahu visit to the US?

[ED NOTES:WHAT MIGTH THIS HAVE TO DO WITH IRAN?LETS GO TO BROOKINGS AND THEIR EULOGIES DAY AFTER STEVENS WAS KILLED,SEE WHAT THEY SAY.. Shaping a New Middle East Order Michael Doran, Roger Hertog Senior Fellow, Saban Center for Middle East Policy In a period of revolutionary turmoil, it is easy to get distracted by the crisis of the moment. Today, our attention is focused on the assault on the American diplomatic missions in Egypt and Libya.
These attacks certainly deserve the attention they are receiving from the highest levels of our government.Amid the turmoil, however, we must remind ourselves that it is Iran—not al Qaeda and certainly not Salafism writ large—that represents the paramount strategic threat to the United States. This is so, because the Islamic Republic is a state sponsor of terrorism that is developing a nuclear weapons capability. In addition, it leads an alliance system, the self-styled “Resistance Bloc,” which is dedicated to undermining the influence of the United States, its Arab allies, and Israel.
The Arab Spring has deeply complicated the American-Iranian contest. It has, among other things, empowered new actors—such as the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafis—who pose independent challenges to the authority of the United States.

The General Conference of the IAEA

The 56th IAEA General Conference  ISRAHELL MISSING AGAIN!!!
The General Conference of the IAEA, which is scheduled to last five days, was opened today Monday Sept. 17 2012, at 10am in the M building of the UNOV. The opening session was attended by hundreds of high-level government representatives of the IAEA’s member states, international organisations, NGOs and dozens of journalists representing media from all over the world.Israel Absent from Start of 56th IAEA General Conference The delegation of Israel, the third party of the well-known conflict, was nowhere to be seen at the opening session of the conference.
The seats reserved for them remained empty during much of the session until much later, when representatives of another country occupied those seats so as to help keep them reserved for the Israeli delegation. Click on the image to enlarge it. Last but not least it should be noted that four demonstrators, who apparently were kindly  provided by the Israeli government press office, protested against the conference. The protesters were seen holding a very professional protest with placards, a table and propaganda flayers outside the UN building, speaking in Hebrew amongst themselves and in English to passers-by. The four demonstrators apparently were not of interest to any of the many journalists or photographers at the UN; I happened on them by accident. → Continue reading: The 56th IAEA General Conference

ALSO IF YOU ARE WONDERING WHY ISRAHELL IS TAKING THIS COURSE SEE THIS REPORT MEMMORANDUM ISSUED BY A ZIONIST ISRAHELLI THINK TANK LAST WEEK,IN REGARDS TO ANY UPCOMING ISSUES REGARDING ISRAEL AND IAEA,NPT ISSUE.   At the same time, the fulfillment of that policy objective – compliance with nonproliferation norms – increases the likelihood of the NPT’s one day becoming non-derogable customary law. That customary law, binding on Israel, could serve to limit Israel’s policy options.Should nonproliferation become customary law, Israel’s policy option of possession of nuclear weapons would become legally unavailable. Israel’s option of possessing nuclear weapons could become a victim of the nonproliferation regime’s success…a future argument that the nonproliferation regime has become binding customary law is not without risks for Israel.
It could provide further rhetorical ammunition to Israel’s foes. It could become a further claim of violation of international law and constitute a basis (or pretense) to maintain grievances against Israel even once regional peace agreements were signed. This is not to say that Israel should change its policy and encourage the nonproliferation regime’s failure and consequent nuclearization of the Middle East. Rather, the issue of customary law provides a reminder that even that policy has its risks. At present, these remain potential risks only. Should the nonproliferation regime succeed, however, Israel will need to present an aggressive and persistent argument that no customary rule exists or, failing thatargue that the NPT’s terms do not apply to Israel by virtue of its persistent objection.

The head of Belgium’s intelligence service has said Brussels is home to more spies than almost any other city. “I stopped meeting him for lunch because all he did was ask questions and he never said anything about himself,” a diplomat on the EU Council’s working group for post-Soviet countries once told this website about his friend from the Russian embassy. For many in the age of foreign policy “resets” and “win-win” talks, espionage sounds like a thing of the past. But for Alain Winants, the head of Belgium’s state security service, the VSSE, the EU capital currently has more spy activity than almost any other city in the world.Winants told EUobserver in a rare interview with international mediathat “we are not speaking in the dozens, we are speaking in the hundreds, several hundreds” of foreign intelligence officers and agents in Brussels “In Belgium, espionage, Russian espionage and from other countries, like the Chinese, but also others, [is] at the same level as the Cold War … We are a country with an enormous concentration of diplomats, businessmen, international institutions – Nato, European institutions.
So for an intelligence officer, for a spy, this is a kindergarten. It’s the place to be.”He also named Iran as a culprit. When asked if EU-friendly countries, such as Israel or the US, do it, he said: “It would be naive to think that only countries like Russia, China, Iran are spying.”He added: “There is one field where the difference between neutral, friendly and unfriendly services tends to disappear and that’s when you are talking about the protection of economic and scientific potential. In this case, I think every service is in competition with the others.”It is a joke in intelligence circles that Iranian spies mostly spy on their own ambassadors.ButChinese and Russian intelligence is out to get EU information with commercial or political value just as much as “classic” defence secrets. With the EU recently opening a price-fixing investigation against Russia’s Gazprom, Winants noted: “One of the things that other countries’ intelligence services are interested in is the energy policy of the EU institutions.”He said spies usually pretend to be diplomats, journalists, lobbyists, businessmen or students.
Apart from intelligence-gathering, they try to influence decisions made by senior EU or Nato staff.
They make friends with officials at seminars or social events in the EU capital. EU security staff use an acronym for the kind of people they target: Mice (money, ideology, compromise, ego) – people who are greedy or in debt, who have radical ideas, who have guilty secrets or who want to be James Bond.In some cases, spies initiate contact in Brussels but wait until the target gets a new post in their home country before trying to recruit them. They don’t do it in EU buildingsThe VSSE, Belgium’s equivalent of the UK’s MI5, is mainly responsible for counter-terrorism. But part of its job is to protect the international institutions on its turf.It works with internal EU and Nato security staff, EU countries’ intelligence services, the Belgian federal police and Belgium’s military intelligence, the ADIV, to hunt out spooks.“”A Chinese diplomat, who declined to speak on the record, said the kind of vague accusations made by Winants causeB “indignation” in Beijing.
Alain Winants was a participant or observer in the following events: February 29, 2008: Arrested Leader of Moroccan Militant Group Revealed to Be Belgian Informant with Possible CIA Links The Belgian media reports that Abdelkader Belliraj, a dual Belgian-Moroccan citizen arrested in Morocco earlier in the month, is actually a long-time informant for Belgium’s internal security service, State Security. [AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE, 2/29/2008LOS ANGELES TIMES, 8/24/2008] The Belgian government initially denies the charges but soon tacitly admits them when the head of State Security, Alain Winants, complains about the leak of the “highly classified” status of Belliraj several days later.
Agence France-Presse reports that although the “accusations were at first met with scepticism in Belgium, authorities now consider them credible.”   One anonymous Belgian police official speculates: “How could he travel freely since the 1980s from Belgium to various terrorist hot-beds around the world? There are two possibilities: either he worked for a secret service or else the State Security is full of idiots.” [AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE, 3/11/2008] Belgian newspaper claims that at the same time he was a paid Belgian informant since 2000, “It’s almost certain that at the same time he worked for another foreign secret service, possibly the French DGSE or American CIA.” [HET LAATSTE NEWS, 3/4/2008] Another major Belgian newspaper, De Morgen, claims that Belliraj had both French and US intelligence links while working with Belgium too. [MAGHREB ARABE PRESSE, 3/4/2008It is worth noting that Alain Winants, director of SV/SE, attempted to put an end to the revelations by filing an official complaint against the newspaper and the TV station, citing potential damage to Belgian national security.

Romney brags he’s got Netanyahu’s campaign consultants (and he’ll shoot you before telling their secrets)

Sep 17, 2012

Phil Weiss and Alex Kane

Just when it’s supposedly anti-Semitic to talk about the fact that neocons are working for Mitt Romney, Mother Jones has published a surreptitious recording of Romney at some fundraiser in which he pretty much destroys his candidacy with a lot of stupid statements about government programs– and also says he’s got Netanyahu’s braintrust working for him:

I have a very good team of extraordinarily experienced, highly successful consultants, a couple of people in particular who have done races around the world. I didn’t realize it. These guys in the US—the Karl Rove equivalents—they do races all over the world: in Armenia, in Africa, in Israel. I mean, they work for Bibi Netanyahu in his race. So they do these races and they see which ads work, and which processes work best, and we have ideas about what we do over the course of the campaign. I’d tell them to you, but I’d have to shoot you.

I think Romney is referring to the secretive and mysterious Arthur Finkelstein. Sheldon Adelson wasto meet with him earlier this year in New York to talk about a SuperPAC. And the Times said he was working for Netanyahu in 1996, to destroy the two-state solution. Which is still Adelson’s main chore. NYT:

And he [Finkelstein] has helped craft simple, similarly stinging television advertisements for Benjamin Netanyahu, the conservative challenger to Prime Minister Shimon Peres.

These commercials contend that Mr. Peres would divide Jerusalem between Israel and a Palestinian state and would return the Golan Heights to Syria with virtually no concessions; they close with the slogan “Making a Secure Peace.” The implication is that peace under Mr. Peres would be riddled with anxiety.

Robert Gates addresses private security conference on Afghanistan, Iran, China, and the expansion of the NSA

Sep 17, 2012

Matthew Graber

On Wednesday, September 12, Former Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates spoke before a packed audience at the Philadelphia Convention Center at the 58th annual ASIS International seminar and exposition. Gates provided former members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Secret Service, and military, as well as members of corporate America with insight and analysis of threats to American interests around the world – in relation to Afghanistan, Iran, and China – and also detailed how he expanded the role of the Secretary of Defense in to domestic politics, and how, with Janet Napolitano, he authorized the NSA to assume jurisdiction over domestic surveillance.

ASIS 2012

The address on Wednesday was the third keynote address of ASIS 2012, a gathering of up to 25,000 security professionals organized by ASIS International, founded in 1955. In addition to keynote addresses by Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Muhammed El Baradei, and Robert Gates, the ASIS 2012 conference in Philadelphia included a sales expo with over 700 security companies, and over 250 educational workshops for security professionals.

One of the over 700 companies present at the expo was G4S, the world’s largest private security firm (and third largest private employer). G4S, which operates in over 135 countries, drew scrutiny over the summer after reneging on a contract with the city of London at the Olympic games. The company also has contracts with the government of Israel, whereby they profit from Israel’s policies of segregation and torture of Palestinians.

Other firms present at the expo included Nice Securities, which provides surveillance equipment to the outlandishly racist police department of Mariposa County, Arizona; and the Applied Science Foundation for Homeland Security, a facility in Long Island, New York, fostering collaboration between the Transportation Security Administration, the Secret Service, the FBI, the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority, and private security firms.

The educational workshops demonstrated the scale of the US surveillance program, and the degree of collaboration between private companies, private security, and government authorities. These workshops included “Using Social Networking Sites, Search Engines, and Web 2.0 to Screen Applicants,” and “Trends in Law Enforcement and Private Security Partnerships,” just for example.

Another workshop, “Civil Disturbances: Trends, Tactics, and Mitigation for Private Security” was led by MSA Security, the private security firm which was in charge of surveillance of Occupy Wall Street in New York City. Yet another, “Africa – Open for Business” was led by an employee of the World Bank, an employee of the Department of Defense, and two members of private security firms. The workshop sought to illuminate business opportunities in Africa for those in private security.

Robert Gates on Afghanistan

Robert Gates joined the CIA as an officer in 1968, and moved his way through the agency to become CIA Director from 1991 – 93. He then served as Secretary of Defense from 2006 to 2011 in the White House administrations of presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

As someone who has dedicated his career to the covert operations of the CIA, Gates expressed continued commitment to the necessity of unofficial and nonmilitary operatives in the service of American military and intelligence. This position is evidenced by the current US strategy in Afghanistan, which Gates drafted and began implementing two and a half years ago, to train an Afghan security force of 100,000 soldiers by 2014 in addition to private security, and a Mining Protection Unit. On Wednesday, Gates said that with this program, he believes that “we finally got the strategy right” in Afghanistan.

On Iran

Gates provided insight into the possibility of a war with Iran. First, Gates described his meeting in 1979 with then-National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, and Iranian officials in Algiers, in which, following the Iranian revolution, he and Brzezinski refused to give the Shah to the Iranians, as he was being treated in the United States.

Then Gates testified as to why the Iranians may want a nuclear weapon, saying that they “see themselves surrounded by nuclear-armed countries,” and have witnessed the way in which the US military has removed Saddam Hussein, in Iraq, and Muammar Gaddafi, in Libya, from power. By contrast, the US “has been far more cautious dealing with the North Korean regime.”

Further, Gates said the Israelis “feel themselves on a shorter timeline than the US with respect to military action” because of the “geography and history” of Israel, and the rhetoric of the Iranian regime. He stated that, “some elements of the Israeli government.. have been making noises about a potential military strike.. possibly before the US presidential election in an effort to box US President Obama in to supporting it,” naming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barack in particular. Yet, “the Israeli military, however formidable, does not have the capacity to destroy all of the buried nuclear facilities at such a long range,” as “the Iranians have dispersed their nuclear program to multiple sites, many of them in urban areas, many of them deep underground.” Then Gates said, “let there be no doubt – an Israeli attack would be seen in the region and in the Muslim world more broadly as being sanctioned and underwritten by the United States, with the same consequences that would attach to a direct American attack.”

If Israel and the United States do not attack Iran, Gates said, the prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran would threaten Israel and Europe, and “ignite a nuclear arms race” in the Middle East. He did not mention the nuclear weapons program of Israel.

Gates said that the current set of sanctions imposed by the United Nations are “our best chance going forward” to pressure the Iranian leadership to abandon any aspirations for a nuclear weapons program, and that “we must make it clear to the.. Israeli government that they do not have a blank check to take actions which could do grave harm to American vital interests and security in that region.”

On China

In relation to China, Gates said, “The only source of legitimacy for the governing elite [of China] is a steadily improving standard of living that requires nine to ten percent annual GDP growth, and the creation of at least twenty million new jobs every year,” and that “the credibility of the Chinese government and the quiescence of the Chinese people depends on sustaining an economic performance that is fundamentally unsustainable.”

In light of these conditions, Gates said, there is growing nationalism and xenophobia in China, and “[t]hey’re becoming more and more aggressive in pursuing China’s interests and defending exaggerated territorial claims.”

Further, “[w]e can expect more belligerence over the months to come as China looks to an immensely important generational transfer of power,” as “no aspiring leader would want to look weak when it comes to defending China’s interests.” Gates notes that China is investing trillions of dollars in foreign cash reserves in new military capabilities and technologies – “anti-ship ballistic and cruise missiles, anti-satellite weapons, electronic warfare assets” – “which could alter the balance of military power in the Pacific, which has for all practical purposes been an American lake for our navy since the end of World War II.”

On cyber security and NSA expansion

An integral part of the ASIS 2012 conference was (ISC)2 – a concurrent seminar focusing on cyber security. Noting the capabilities of computer viruses such as STUXNET and the “Love bug” to have drastic consequences, Gates stressed the importance of cyber security. He goes on, “One of the keys to any military success going forward is ensuring that information crucial to operations reaches the widest appropriate audience. I know this is one of the challenges [which] the military and industry face working together, namely how to provide the maximum possible protections and information assurance without undermining one of the traditional strengths of the American way of war – just to push data and decision-making down to the lowest possible level of authority – and to do so without a repeat of the Wikileaks fiasco.”

Then Gates described the decision for the NSA – “a military support agency” – to have jurisdiction over surveillance programs in the United States. Citing “very limited assets, capability, and experience” at the Department of Homeland Security,” Gates said that it “isn’t plausible” “to fashion a brand new, ACLU-approved homeland version of the NSA for domestic surveillance and cyber security;” thus, through a memorandum of understanding drafted by Gates and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano in the summer of 2010, the NSA support for DHS was approved by President Obama.

As an integral part of the passage and implementation of this surveillance program, Gates noted that, as Secretary of Defense, he established a “good rapport between [himself] and first Secretary Rice and Secretary Clinton,” whereas for most of his public life the two positions – Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State – neither spoke with one another nor collaborated.

The scale of the ASIS conference in Philadelphia was breathtaking, yet equally disturbing was the lack of press coverage, and subsequent lack of public awareness and scrutiny. The conference brought together corporate leaders with government officials for open and honest sharing and collaboration. ASIS has almost 300 chapters world-wide, with at least half of those based in the United States. They are coordinating five similar conferences over the next year in Hong Kong, Dubai, New York, Chicago, and Gothenburg, Sweden. It is my hope that, by bringing to light and understanding what ASIS members and their partners are doing, we can begin to scrutinize the military-industrial, prison-industrial, and agricultural-industrial complex. The repercussions of their work are damning for the general public.

America: connect the dots

Sep 17, 2012

Shakeel Syed

Trailer of the anti-Muslim documentary Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West (2008). DVD copies of the film were mailed out just weeks before the 2008 presidential elections.

The recent tragic death of the U.S. Ambassador and four staff members of the U.S. Embassy in Libya by asphyxiation in the embassy fire ignited by the irate Libyans reminded me of a nomad’s satire.

The nomad walks into a café and gives a verdict on the cosmos by saying “I love the moon and hate the sun.” Baffled patrons in the café ask the nomad about his love and hate relationship with the moon and the sun. The nomad explains. “I love the moon because it brightens the night and guides us to find our ways and then he adds, I hate the Sun because it comes out only during the day when it is bright anyway!”

Most people miss the most obvious especially when thinking is fogged with emotions. While we condemn the senseless violence and mourn the loss of innocent lives in Libya, I cannot help but remind myself of an incident four years ago in September 2008.

About 60 days before the Presidential elections in September 2008, millions of Americans in 14 battleground states received a DVD gift in the mail, titled: Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West. That movie was produced by Rabbi Raphael Shore for a tax-exempt New York-based charity by the name “Clarion Fund” with connections to a strongly pro-Israel Jewish educational organization – Aish HaTorah based out of Israel and an office in the United States. Clarion Fund did not just produce Obsession but also produced The Third Jihad and Iranium.

News analysis at the time helped many Americans connect the dots about the September 2008 DVD being used to influence the November 2008 Presidential elections.

Now, in September 2012, the world learns of yet another movie, The Innocence of Muslims. More dot-connecting is required.

Los Angeles Times reports that the movie was filmed and produced in Southern California but in much mystery. Allegedly, the producer is a Coptic-Christian of Egyptian origins holding extreme anti-Islam views. And then there is a movie consultant and scriptwriter, Steve Klein, based out of the City of Hemet who claims to know but refuses to reveal the identities of those associated with the film in various capacities.

Although much is shrouded in mystery, the movie consultant has revealed himself as did some of the production crew-members. And according to the Associated Press a person identifying himself asNakoula Basseley Nakoula may in fact be Sam Bacille who initially was reported to be “the” man behind the movie.

Much uncertainty remains but what we do know for certain is that this 14-minute movie has already contributed four American deaths. The nation is in mourning and political tensions are rising in the region.

Conservative political leaders often speak of pre-emptive police action against American Muslims, particularly in Los Angeles. Muslim-American political rights are, to them, expendable. But when right-wing cranks like Steve Klein seek to inflame passions that lead directly to American deaths too many conservative pundits and politicians have preferred to blame President Obama.

It is time for American conservatives to criticize the hatred in their own ranks. A more thoughtful position would be to criticize both the film and those carrying out the violence in Libya and other countries.

An effort to label President Obama as a Muslim or a Muslim sympathizer – as if being a Muslim is unacceptable – is likely to again sweep the political rights. Mainstream conservatives should denounce such bigotry and Americans should be connecting the dots leading from September 11, 2012 leading to the election on November 6, 2012.

‘NYT’ responds to Netanyahu: ‘Israelis misled and bullied US’ before Sabra and Shatila too

Sep 17, 2012

Yakov Hirsch

Instead of another anodyne NY Times editorial today about Netanyahu injecting himself into our election campaign, the Times decided to take off its gloves. Netanyahu has clearly crossed its “red line” with his recent activities. It wasn’t so long ago that “A Preventable Massacre,” the op-ed by Seth Anziska on the 30th anniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacre, would have been too toxic to be “fit to print.”

Anziska sheds light on the U.S role in the Sabra and Shatila massacre. Recently declassified Israeli documents show that the

Israelis misled American diplomats about events in Beirut and bullied them into accepting the spurious claim that thousands of “terrorists” were in the camps. Most troubling, when the United States was in a position to exert strong diplomatic pressure on Israel that could have ended the atrocities, it failed to do so. As a result, Phalange militiamen were able to murder Palestinian civilians, whom America had pledged to protect just weeks earlier.

We see the familiar dynamic of Israeli leaders browbeating American diplomats while demanding their support. Of course this goes on while the Zionist maxim of

“when it comes to our security, we have never asked. We will never ask. When it comes to existence and security, it is our own responsibility and we will never give it to anybody to decide for us”

is repeated, by Ariel Sharon. By caving in to the Israeli bullying, the U.S. “effectively gave Israel cover to let the Phalange fighters remain in the camp.” So the U.S. was “unwittingly complicit in the tragedy of Sabra and Shatila.”

Anziska concludes:

The Sabra and Shatila massacre severely undercut America’s influence in the Middle East, and its moral authority plummeted. In the aftermath of the massacre, the United States felt compelled by “guilt” to redeploy the Marines, who ended up without a clear mission, in the midst of a brutal civil war.

On Oct. 23, 1983, the Marine barracks in Beirut were bombed and 241 Marines were killed. The attack led to open warfare with Syrian-backed forces and, soon after, the rapid withdrawal of the Marines to their ships. As Mr. Lewis(Samuel Lewis ambassador to Israel) told me, America left Lebanon “with our tail between our legs.”

The archival record reveals the magnitude of a deception that undermined American efforts to avoid bloodshed. Working with only partial knowledge of the reality on the ground, the United States feebly yielded to false arguments and stalling tactics that allowed a massacre in progress to proceed.

The lesson of the Sabra and Shatila tragedy is clear. Sometimes close allies act contrary to American interests and values. Failing to exert American power to uphold those interests and values can have disastrous consequences: for our allies, for our moral standing and most important, for the innocent people who pay the highest price of all.

Is there a more appropriate time than now to reflect on the events of 30 years ago? Once again Israel is trying have the U.S. be complicit in its machinations and won’t take no for an answer. The decades-long campaign to attach the U.S. to the Israeli hip relentlessly goes on. The Times says enough is enough. When Netanyahu said yesterday on Meet the Press “you can understand why they [Iran] are so antagonistic to us because for them we are you and you are us” the Times responds, Yes exactly, that indeed is the problem.

This op-ed is a huge inflection point for the lobby. Its publication is a terrible blow, and I suspect the usual suspects will say nothing about it hoping it doesn’t get any attention. Because really, how does hasbara deal with it? It is devastating, and gives the lie to all the talking points about the “special relationship.”

Freedom Theatre co-founder Zubeidi detained by PA 19 more days; on hunger strike to death

The Freedom Theatre co-founder Zakaria Zubeidi detained by PA a further 19 days, vows to continue food and fluid strike to the death

Zakaria Zubeidi, co-founder of The Freedom Theatre, was today sentenced to another 19 days in Palestinian Authority prison. Zubeidi responded by declaring that he was resuming a full hunger strike and from this point on would not eat, drink or speak.

“This court and this judge made an unfair decision against me, Zubeidi said in an extremely weak voice. “I’ve been in prison for a long time without evidence. This morning the doctor told me I have three days to live if I don’t drink water. So this court has decided to kill me.”

Zubeidi was supporting himself on the railing as he stood. He took off his shirt, revealing a noticeably thin torso, and pointed out the multiple bullet wounds he had obtained from his years as a fighter against Israeli occupation. “I have been a freedom fighter since I was born, and it’s unjust for me to die here.”

“This decision is unjust and means you want to kill me, but I want to choose how I will die. In four days, there will be a funeral from Jericho to Jenin”, Zubeidi concluded.

Zubeidi’s wife, who attended the hearing, broke down in tears when the ruling was announced. She said: “This is a humiliation for the Palestinian resistance. Someone who was the leader of the Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades in 2002 is now suffering inside a Palestinian Authority prison instead of an Israeli prison.”

The court hearing was also attended by members of The Freedom Theatre and friends of Zubeidi’s from all over the world. Zubeidi was clearly touched by the support, waving and smiling to his colleagues and friends. When the proceedings ended, international and Palestinian supporters stood and chanted “Shame! Shame! The world is watching you!” and “This is Palestinian democracy? You are no better than the Israelis!”

The judge ordered a further 19 days of detention for Zubeidi, bowing to the prosecution’s request for “more time to finish the investigation” stating that these 19 days was the prosecution’s final chance to bring charges against Zubeidi, who has been in the custody of the Palestinian Security Forces since May 13. No charges or evidence of wrongdoing have been presented.

“Zakaria was the person who inspired me to stay in Palestine to join the struggle for freedom against occupation,” said Jonatan Stanczak, Managing Director of the Freedom Theatre. ‘The Palestinian Authority has succeeded with what the Israelis did not: to kill Zakaria. The PA has learnt their lesson from the Israelis very well, to the extent that they have become themselves part of the occupation.”

NPR’s Raz cites Adelson support for rabbi candidate without any mention of Israel issue

Sep 17, 2012

Philip Weiss

My jaw dropped last night hearing Guy Raz of National Public Radio do a piece on Shmuley Boteach, the Republican rabbi running for Congress against Democrat Bill Pascrell in New Jersey’s 9th District, without mentioning Israel. Not once. Boteach is a values candidate, or a life-style candidate. Something like that.

Raz did mention Sheldon Adelson, but without referring to Adelson’s number one issue:

Up until a few weeks ago, no one really took Shmuley’s campaign seriously — not even the Republican National Committee. That is until a superPAC created to support him received half a million dollars from the billionaire Sheldon Adelson, who is also backing many other pro-Republican groups.

Guess what: Adelson just held a fundraiser for Romney in Jerusalem. Before that he supported Newt Gingrich and said the Palestinians are an invented people and that a two-state solution is a stepping stone to the destruction of Israel. (Even the NYT mentioned that.) He supported George Bush to block the peace process in 2000, and succeeded. He has said that: “All we care about is being good Zionists, being good citizens of Israel, because even though I am not Israeli born, Israel is in my heart…”

Imagine if a Christian zealot was reviving a congressional candidate’s campaign and wanted to inject religion into politics….

Exile and the prophetic: If Rosh Hashanah returns

Marc H. Ellis

This post is part of Marc H. Ellis’s “Exile and the Prophetic” feature for Mondoweiss. To read the entire series visit the archive page.

On the beach this New Year morning, the sky is like an artist’s palette.  The colors are pastel, various shades of pink and blue.  A New Year omen I hope.

The world isn’t as beautiful as the morning sky.  Libya and Egypt lead the foreboding news cycle.  Syria’s war stalemate remains.  Heading for America, Netanyahu draws his red lines in Israel’s Iranian sand. Instead of meeting Netanyahu, Obama is received by David Letterman.

On the rote and trite Rosh Hashanah front, Obama and Romney issue Jewish New Year messages.  I can’t tell one from the other.

Politics makes for strange and meaningless High Holiday messages.  Nothing to mull over.  No pointers for self-correction.  Trivialized challenges for the coming year. More of the same.

More or less, like the Rosh Hashanah sermons preached today.  You can’t tell one from the other.

Religion makes for strange and meaningless holyday messages.  Like Pope Benedict on his Lebanon pilgrimage.  Won’t you please wish us well?

On the local front, the Cross on the beach lists in the sand.  The weather is taking its toll. I’ve thought about taking it to my apartment for safekeeping. Then I realized it’s become a mandala of sorts for me.  Changing its physical location might change its spiritual meaning.

Mandalas are a series of concentric diagrams with ritual and sacred significance in Buddhism.  When mandalas are constructed out of sand, they are destroyed by those who constructed them. The destruction of the creation represents the impermanence of life and the sacred.

Should we look at Rosh Hashanah as a Jewish mandala? The Jewish calendar, with its rites and rituals, and Jewish history, which we mark today of more than five thousand years, is heavy stuff.  As a mandala constructed out of sand, “Jewish” is here and then not here.  Jewish is omnipresent.  Jewish disappears.

Auschwitz as a Jewish mandala.  I remember when I traveled to Auschwitz, a Rabbi suggested letting the death camp decay. Let nature take its course.  Today, climate control experts preserve Auschwitz for eternity.

Though Auschwitz has become a Jewish mandala of sorts, for the most part, it functions in a perverted way.  We gaze on Auschwitz, the site, or invoke its name, as a gateway to the sacred.  The last thing on our Auschwitz mind is impermanence.

Auschwitz as a gateway for the spiritual has no depth.  In the Jewish imagination, Auschwitz is our fixed eternity.  Auschwitz keeps returning in the same form.

Israel as a gateway for the spiritual has no depth.  In the Jewish imagination, Israel is our fixed eternity.  Israel keeps returning in the same form.

Auschwitz and Israel are real.  Auschwitz and Israel are unreal.

As a gateway for the spiritual, Rosh Hashanah has no depth.  In the Jewish imagination, Rosh Hashanah is fixed in eternity.  Rosh Hashanah keeps returning in the same form.

Yom Kippur as a gateway for the spiritual has no depth.  In the Jewish imagination, Yom Kippur is fixed in eternity.  Yom Kippur keeps returning in the same form.

This doesn’t mean that what is has to be.  It’s not about destroying/erasing our real/imagined place/calendar or our distinct/imagined identity.Jewish identity embraces our past and present as if they matter.  As we embrace our identity, we need to release ourselves from identity’s hold on us.

As we hold onto Jewish, it becomes violent and unethical.  It drifts away.

Let go of Jewish.  If Jewish returns, it will return in a different form.

If you let go of Jewish and it returns, you know it matters.

During these days of reflection, give the prophetic back to God.  If you give the prophetic back to God and the prophetic returns, then you know the prophetic is the deepest part of you.

On Rosh Hashanah do something (un)Jewish.  Give it all up.

Think Rosh Hashanah doesn’t matter.

Israel/Palestine issue is source of Muslim mistrust of US, but NYT and NBC can’t touch that one

Philip Weiss

Why do they hate us? And can the mainstream media ever talk about Israel/Palestine? Yesterday Meet the Press devoted an entire hour to the upheaval in the Middle East without touching on the Israel/Palestine issue (as Alex Kane has noted). More notes from the front…

Robert Wright has a very good post up at the Atlantic about why they hate us in which he focuses on three American policies that Muslims don’t like: drone strikes that kill lots of civilians, the presence of US troops in Muslim countries, and the Israel/Palestine issue. Wright’s wrap on I/P:

Again, don’t expect to hear about this from Romney or Obama. During an election campaign, especially, neither man wants to dwell on the downside of America’s essentially unconditional support of Israel even as Israel pursues policies that violate both international law and basic principles of justice, such as the expansion of settlements in the West Bank. But rest assured that the Israeli-American relationship gets plenty of airtime in Muslim, and especially Arab, nations. And, while some of this assumes the form of wild conspiracy theories, the core fact that American support helps sustain highly objectionable Israeli policies is not a figment of anyone’s imagination. Neither is the fact that when President Obama did try to get Israel to freeze settlement expansion, he encountered so much blowback in Israel and America that he had to give up.

Well, now: The New York Times has a front-page piece on “cultural clashes” that are feeding the Arab revolt against the U.S. in the Middle East. And the piece leaves out Israel/Palestine:

Others said that the outpouring of outrage against the video had built up over a long period of perceived denigrations of Muslims and their faith by the United States or its military, which are detailed extensively in the Arab news media: the invasion of Iraq on a discredited pretext; the images of abuse from the Abu Ghraib prison; the burning or desecrations of the Koran by troops in Afghanistan and a pastor in Florida; detentions without trial at Guantánamo Bay; the denials of visas to prominent Muslim intellectuals; the deaths of Muslim civilians as collateral damage in drone strikes; even political campaigns against the specter of Islamic law inside the United States.

The Times is not alone. Richard Engel did the same thing on NBC last week. Steve Walt’s report:

I hardly ever watch network news, but I happened to stumble across this appalling report on NBC’s “Rock Center” last night. In this clip, reporter Richard Engel blames this week’s anti-American violence on “conspiracy theories” that Arab populations have been fed over the years by their rulers, including the idea that the United States and Israel are colluding to control the Middle East.

It’s no secret there are conspiracy theories circulating in the Middle East (as there are here in the good old USA: Remember the “birthers?”) I’ve heard them every time I’ve lectured in the region and done my best to debunk them. But by attributing Arab and Muslim anger solely to these ideas, Engel’s report paints a picture of the United States (and by implication, Israel) as wholly blameless. In his telling, the U.S. has had nothing but good intentions for the past century, but the intended beneficiaries of our generosity don’t get it solely because they’ve been misled by their leaders.

In short, Operation Cast Lead never happened, Lebanon wasn’t invaded in 1982 or bombed relentlessly for a month in 2006, the United States has never turned a blind eye towards repeated human rights violations by every single one of its Middle Eastern allies, drones either don’t exist or never killed an innocent victim, the occupation of Iraq in 2003 was just a little misunderstanding, and the Palestinians ought to be grateful to us for what they’ve been left after forty-plus years of occupation. To say this in no way absolves governments in the region for responsibility for many of their current difficulties, but Americans do themselves no favors by ignoring our own contribution to the region’s ills.

I appreciate Wright’s comments about the Arab street too. The protests represent popular opinion:

Obviously, the fact that an American policy contributes to anti-Americanism in the Muslim world isn’t by itself a decisive argument against the policy. But ever since terrorism became a significant threat to American interests, this consideration has belonged in the policy cost-benefit calculus. All the more so in the wake of the Arab Spring, when the policies of Egypt and some other Muslim countries are more responsive to popular opinion, and anti-American sentiment can therefore translate more directly into anti-American policies.

This is why the Israeli failure to accept either the Saudi peace initiative of 2002 or Obama’s “settlements must end” challenge of 2009, represents a form of national suicide. By failing to cut a deal with authoritarian leaders when it could on the ’67 borders, Israel now has, as a world constituency, the Arab street; and Arabs are concerned about refugees and justice, and won’t shut up about these questions. I suppose the ’67 lines and dignity for Palestinians might satisfy the Arab street; but Israel is incapable of going that way, which is why realistic people fear that apartheid will only end with massive bloodshed.

Back in ’47 and ’48 State Department officials warned Truman that recognizing Israel was a prescription for endless strife. One of those officials later produced this warning:

“President [Roosevelt] told [mideast envoy Lt. Col. Harold] Hoskins that he ‘fully agreed that a Jewish state in Palestine could be installed and maintained only by force.'”

US policy in the Middle East has long been to contain these anti-Israel forces so as to maintain peace. These forces are breaking loose…

Kourosh Ziabari and Fars News Agency of Iran: A Conversation with Mark Dankof on Israel and 9-11

Mark Dankof in Washington, D. C. in November of 2011

Mark Dankof’s recent agreement with Dr. Alan Sobrosky of the U. S. National War College on Press TV/Iran, that 9-11 was a false flag operation conducted by the Israeli Mossad, prompted an invitation to Mr. Dankof from globe-trotting international journalist Kourosh Ziabari to further discuss some of the specifics of the case that have prompted the suspicions and conclusions of the last 11 years.

Kourosh Ziabari:  Mark, in your writings andbroadcasts about 9/11, you’ve talked about the Israeli foreknowledge of the attacks. Is there compelling evidence to verify this? Do you mean that Israel was somehow involved in the attacks or may have benefited from them in one way or another?

Mark Dankof: I will reiterate what I said on Press TV.  I believe Dr. Alan Zabrosky of the U. S. Army War College is correct.  The Israeli Mossad pulled off the 9-11 attacks.  They had the motive, the means, the opportunity, and the network in the domestic United States to keep their involvement from public exposure.  As Dr. Zabrosky puts it, It is 100% certain that 9-11 was a Mossad operation.  Period.”

It was my broadcast colleague, Mark Glenn of The Ugly Truth, who did the initial exclusive interview on the air with Zabrosky, when the Good Doctor finally went public with what he knew.  That single broadcast was the pivotal event on the airwaves internationally which began the process of unraveling the essence of what really happened and why, on September 11, 2001.

Consider just a few of the facts discussed by Dr. Robert Sungenis in his two-part series for Dr. E. Michael Jones’ Culture Wars (July/August 2012 edition and the current September 2012 edition available online). The Sungenis series is an extended review of Christopher Bollyn’s book, “Solving 9-11:  The Deception That Changed the World.”  Many of these facts are also accessible online through Wikispooks through their dossier entitled, “9-11:  Israel Did It.”

Fact:  The BBC reported on September 23, 2001 that most of the “nineteen Muslims” are still alive.  Rex Tomb, Chief of Investigative Publicity for the FBI noted that the reason bin Laden and the Taliban have never been officially accused by the United States for orchestrating 9-11 is “because the FBI has no hard evidence connecting bin Laden to 9-11.”  Dick Cheney stated in an interview with Tony Snow on March 26, 2006 that “We’ve never made the case, or argued the case that somehow Osama bin Laden was directly involved in 9-11.  That evidence has never been forthcoming.”  Robert Muller of the FBI admitted the same when he stated that, “In our investigation, we have not uncovered a single piece of paper either here in the U. S. or in the treasure trove of information that has turned up in Afghanistan and elsewhere that mentioned any aspect of the September 11th plot.”

Fact:  Zionist Jew and Netanyahu pal, Larry Silversteinobtained the lease for the Twin Towers just ten weeks before 9-11.  He doubled the insurance and included a clause for “terrorists’ acts.”  When it came time to collect, Silverstein claimed there were two incidents of “terror” since two buildings were hit by planes, which allowed him to seek for double indemnity.  His victory in court was overseen by Zionist JewMichael B. Mukasey.  Silverstein later gave conflicting accounts of why he was not eating breakfast at the Windows of the World restaurant at the Twin Towers on 9-11, a complete departure from his usual routine.  Or why his son, Roger, and daughter, Lisa did not show up for work as usual at the World Trade Center on that fateful morning.  Take a look at what Bollyn, Sungenis, and Wikispooks chronicle about the astounding list of high-profile Zionist Jews connected to the Twin Tower complex who were all conveniently missing from the area on 9-11.  Frank Lowy; Lewis Eisenberg; Ronald S. Lauder; Jules Kroll; Jerome Hauer.  This is all especially interesting given the Jerusalem Post report that the foreign ministry of Israel had the names of 4,000 Israelis believed to be in the area of the Twin Towers or the Pentagon at the time of the attacks, yet only one Israeli is known to have died that morning.  How did all of these Jews know to be absent that morning?

Maybe it has something to do with the admission of Jewish-run company Odigo [later purchased by Comverse Infosys, an Israeli company which specializes in phone and wiretapping] which had offices two blocks from the Twin Towers, that two of its employees received instant messages warning of a large-scale attack two hours before the planes hit the Twin Towers.  The Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, carried the story.  Two weeks after 9-11, the Vice President of Odigo, Alex Diamandis stated, “The messages said something big was going to happen in a certain amount of time, and it did–almost to the minute.”  Bollyn and Sungenis note another oddity in all of this:  the Israeli company, ZIMwhich vacated its 10,000 square foot office space in the North Twin Tower only a few days before 9-11 even though the company lease ran to the end of 2001, losing $50,000 in the process.  When the FBI’s Michael Dick began an investigation of this suspicious activity, Michael Chertoff removed him from the case.  Chertoff is an Israeli citizen; his cousin, Benjamin Chertoff, wrote the infamous article forPopular Mechanics that attempted to support the U. S. government’s position on 9-11 and to defuse the sharp criticism of American physicists and scientists which definitively stated that the official story of how the Towers came down was a scientific absurdity and impossibility.  Chertoff’s mother, Livia Eisen, had been an agent for the Israeli Mossad.  Chertoff also played a major role in the prosecution of the 1993 False Flag terror bombing of the World Trade Center eight years before.  As Bollyn and Sungenis tell it, and as Wikispooks narrates the story, Chertoff was assigned the investigation of the aftermath of 9-11 as the Assistant Attorney General.  He had the final authority on the removal of the steel girders from ground zero.  This removal of crime evidence was undertaken by scrapyards and junkyards that were Zionist-owned.  Two of the junkyards were Hugo Neu Schnitzer East and Metals Management Northeast.  Hugo Neu is a Jewish immigrant.  He invests Israeli venture capital with Nir Belzer who is the senior manager of Israel’s Millennium Materials Technologies Funds with Oren Gafri.  Gafri served as an executive with Israeli Aircraft Industries, Ltd., Bedek division, which specialized in aircraft conversion.  Gafri also trained in Israel’s nuclear program, including explosive coatings of super-thermite (the kind found in the dust of 9-11). It was another Zionist, Yoram Shalmon of PowerLoc Technologies, who contracted to remove the 250 tons of steel girders from ground zero.

In the case of Michael Chertoff, he was later made the head of the Department of Homeland Security.  He used the Sensitive Security Information program to confiscate evidence to forestall investigation into 9-11, including the confiscation of the three private video tapes of the attack on the Pentagon.  These tapes have never been released.

Then there is Philip Zelikow, an Israeli citizen like Chertoff.  He ends up as the writer of the official United States Government Report on 9-11.

Fact:  Steel melts only at 2,777 degrees Fahrenheit.  Jet fuel burns no hotter than 1,517 degrees Fahrenheit.  There was nothing in the World Trade Center buildings, barring explosives and thermite, that could burn hotter than jet fuel.  Strong circumstantial evidence suggests that a sophisticated form of super-thermite had been applied to large sections of the World Trade Center.

There are interesting super-thermite connections in this case when one considers the logical possibilities.  There is the aforementioned Oren Gafri connection.  Gafri served as an executive with Israeli Aircraft Industries, Ltd., Bedek division, which specialized in aircraft conversion.  Gafri also trained in Israel’s nuclear program, including explosive coatings of super-thermite (the kind found in the dust of 9-11).

There may be another damning super-thermite connection.  Ehud Barak, the prime minister of Israel until March of 2001, came to the United States shortly after leaving office, as reported by Bollyn and Sungenis.  He came, ostensibly, to work as a special advisor for Electronic Data Systems and as a consultant with SCP Partners, a Mossad-run private equity company focused on “security related” work.  . . . was his real cover to oversee the 9-11 attacks?  Bollyn clearly suspects this on the basis of the fact that in 2001, SCP Partners did business with Metallurg Holding, Inc., as well as Advanced Metallurgical Group, N. V. (AMG), both sharing the same Wayne, PA address.  AMG specializes in the production of super-thermite, and others which manufacture specialized coatings of nano-composites.  This is the same Ehud Barak who was in the London studio of the BBC within minutes of the explosive demolitions of the Twin Towers on 9-11, declaring minus any evidence of culpability that there needed to be a “War on Terror” and “U. S. military intervention in Afghanistan.”  Is this a case of the real perpetrator assigning the blame to convenient and demonized enemies?

Bollyn mentions two other interesting connections.  LVI Group, Inc. and Controlled Demolition, Inc., which had previously done multi-million dollar contracts of research and development for the Department of Defense in areas of “asbestos abatement” and “preparing structures for demolition prior to the placement of charges.”  And what may be the clincher in terms of troubling circumstantial evidence:  Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).  SAIC provided all the experts who wrote papers for the NIST investigation of 9-11.  It headed the investigation of the 1993 WTC bombing; it makes nanothermitesthrough its subsidiary, Applied Ordinance Technology, and subcontracts to the Central Intelligence Agency to spy on CIA employees.  It has employed Robert Gates and John Deutsch.

One thing is sure.  Israelis Michael Chertoff and Philip Zelikow are not about to allow extensive examination and investigation of these disturbing pieces of information and the connections they suggest.  They will debunk the insistence of American physicists like Stephen Jones of Brigham Young University that the scientific facts disprove the official conclusions.  They will ignore the trails on accessibility to nano-thermite.  They will ignore the questions surrounding Larry Silverstein’s obtaining of the Towers and the highly profitable character of the insurance arrangement that made him a ton of money.  They will ignore the Odigo connection in terms of establishing Israeli foreknowledge of the event.  They will ignore the fact that Building 7 of the World Trade Center came down instantaneously in its own footprint as the other buildings did, but without being struck by an airplane, what Alan Sabrosky terms “the tipping point.”

Then there is the Chertoff/Zelikow concealment of the Five Dancing Israelis on 9-11 who were arrested and later quietly allowed to return to Israel, courtesy of a direct order from Michael Chertoff.  These Five Dancing Israelis were jumping for joy and photographing themselves with the collapse of the Twin Towers in the background, first in Liberty State Park after the initial impact.  Later, other witnesses saw them celebrating on a roof in Weehawken, New Jersey, and subsequently in a parking lot in Jersey City.  Residents of the area called police.  The Israeli men were posing as Arabs running a New Jersey moving company.  Two of the five were later positively identified as agents of the Israeli Mossad.  These individuals were carryingmultiple passports, thousands of dollars in cash, and tested positive for explosives as reported only by the Bergen Record in Paolo Lima, New Jersey. Three vans traced to these five Israelis were seized, one prior to the Lincoln Tunnel; another at the George Washington Bridge; the final one on King Street between 6th and 7th which the Israelis fled after they blew it up.  The moving company which owned these vans, Urban Moving Systems (UMS), was a Mossad front.  The two Mossad agents in this operation were the Kurzberg brothers, Paul and Sivan.  Dominic Suter, another Mossad agent, was the registered owner of Urban Moving Systems (UMS), and allowed to flee the United States for Israel by the FBI on September 14, 2001, courtesy of Chertoff’s directive.  After Suter’s escape, the other 5 men failed lie detector tests but still were allowed to flee.  Three of these men, Oded Ellner, Omer Marmari, and Yaron Schmuel, show up onIsraeli television in November 2001.  Ellner took the lead on that show, and said that “Our purpose was to document the 9-11 event.”  This too proves Israeli foreknowledge, as does the Odigo incident.

Fact:  The American airport which was at the center of the 9-11 operation was Boston’s Logan Airport.  Who provided security at that airport on that fateful day?  The Israeli airport security firm International Consultants on Targeted Security (ICTS) is the answer.

Fact:  Who had control of security at the World Trade Center since 1987?  The answer is the Israeli Mossad, as documented by Christopher Bollyn.  In 1987, the Mossad procured the contract under the name ofAtwell Security, a subsidiary of the Eisenberg Group under Shaul Eisenberg of the Mossad.  The New York representative for Atwell at that time was Peter Zvi Malkin, who joined the Israeli Haganah at age twelve, nabbed Adolf Eichmann in 1960, and was an explosives expert.  Malkin worked closely with Rafael “Dirty Rafi” Eitan, the senior Mossad agent who ran the Jonathan Pollard espionage operation in the 1980s while working out of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, and who also ran the PROMIS computer software alternation plot.  The PROMIS plot enabled Israel and Communist China to siphon American nuclear secrets from Los Alamos Nuclear Laboratories, using Israeli asset and British media mogul Robert Maxwellas the broker of the altered computer program.  My review of Gordon Thomas’s Seeds of Fire will brief your readers and viewers on this one.

The Atwell/Mossad security contract for the World Trade Center, as Bollyn and Sungenis tell it, was one the Port Authority of New York felt compelled to cancel in 1987 when it was revealed that one Avraham Shalom Ben-Dor, former head of the Israeli Shin Bet, was running the Atwell contract while working with Rafi Eitan.  Bollyn and Sungenis also tell us that the cancellation of this contract forced Mossad to come up with a new one, which they did.  Jules Kroll and Kissinger connected-Maurice Greenberg, the CEO of the bailed out AIG Insurance Company, Jackie Kennedy boyfriend, and associate of Shaul Eisenberg of the Asian branch of the Mossad, put it together.

This is the tip of the Israeli connections in this case, as Christopher Bollyn and Robert Sungenis put it together.  Sungenis has done a couple of radio shows with me on the subject.  Bollyn’s book and Sungenis’ review cover much, much more, including the Ptech-Guardium network.

Kourosh Ziabari: Winner of the Superior Iranian Youth Award and Iran’s 18th Press Festival First Prize for Political Articles.

Kourosh Ziabari: The mainstream media and influential Jewish groups in the United States vilify the critics of the official accounts of the 9/11 attacks as conspiracy theorists and rebuff their arguments about the possible involvement of Mossad in the attacks. What do you think in this
regard? How should the 9/11 Truth Movement uphold its objectives and confront the defamation and smear campaign headed by the state-owned mainstream media?

Mark Dankof:  The only course of action is to continue to present the known facts, first on the scientific evidence, secondly on the party that had the motive, the means, the opportunity, and the resources to cover up the deed after the fact.  We are less than candid when we fail to acknowledge that the Zionist control of the six major American media conglomerates is monolithic, and makes Corporate Media a purchased accomplice in what is going on.  This fact, and Zionist control of the Federal Reserve Board (money supply) and Presidential and Congressional elections through PAC money and media control, makes for a completely unlevel playing field.  In the case of the 9-11 Truth Movement, the chief strategy is clearly the utilization of the Internet, and foreign media outlets and journalists, to get the word out domestically and internationally.  We have to do an end run around Corporate Media, their ownership, their agents of influence, and pursue guerrilla strategies.  This is what Mark Glenn and I are doing with The Ugly Truth, and with our occasional appearances on Press TV and Russia Today.  We have no money, no corporate benefactors, and plenty of adversaries with a lot of animosity toward us and plenty of their own benefactors in marginalizing us professionally with demonization and malicious untruth on the Internet.

The job that Republican congressional candidate in Maryland, Kenneth R. Timmerman, attempted to do on me with the help of an ex-friend of mine, Howard Phillips of the Constitution Party and Washington’s Conservative Caucus, in a piece for the Richard Mellon Scaife-financed Accuracy in Media entitled, “Tehran TV Loves Ron Paul,” is a case in point.  This goes back to an article I wrote in 2007.  Timmerman threatened to sue me if I didn’t withdraw the piece.  I didn’t withdraw.  He then resorted to the sort of thing that appeared this year in Accuracy in Media.  This is the way it is.  I have since commented on Timmerman in a radio broadcast of September 5th, 2012.  I have also responded to Howard Phillips in writing.  You can evaluate the evidence for yourself on what is going on here.  Mantiq al-Tayr covered some of these shenanigans in Stealth Zionism.  What is important to see here is the extent to which the American Right specifically, and the American political and journalistic enterprise generally, has been hijacked by these Zionist Agents of Influence.  This even includes elements of the Libertarian Party, as I recently demonstrated in my piece on Wayne Allyn Root.

It all points to Israel.  The American public needs to understand that the entire history of this State is rooted in racism, terror, racial genocide, theft, and False Flag Operations.  Look at the King David Hotel Bombing in Jerusalem in 1947; Deir Yassin; the Lavon Affair; Israel’s deliberate attack on the USS Liberty on June 8th, 1967; the Pollard spy case and the subsequent AIPAC, Ben-Ami, and Stewart Nozette spy cases.  Your readers and viewers need regular acquaintance with a resource like Grant Smith’sThe Israel Lobby Archive, for the Institute of Research:  Middle Eastern Policy where these topics are concerned.   This is clearly a State that would have no hesitation to pull off a False Flag operation in New York on September 11, 2011, if they felt it benefited them, as Benjamin Netanyahu himself has stated it did.  He said the day after 9-11 that [where Israel’s interest is concerned], “It’s very good.”  He also stated that “We are benefiting from one thing, and that is the attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, and the American struggle in Iraq.  . . . these events swung American public opinion in our favor.”

I have a suggestion for those interested in the truth and international dissemination of the truth before time runs out.  It may already be too late.  One is to see that the independent film producer, Merlin Miller ofAmericana Pictures, gets the funding he needs to produce his completed movie screenplay on Israel’s premeditated attack on the USS Liberty, entitled “False Flag“.  The second is that the funding be brought forth to put Michael Collins Piper’s book on the Kennedy Assassination, Final Judgment, into cinematic production.  Why?  If the American public ever discovers what the State of Israel has been doing at their expense, and why, the Zionist enterprise will be finished.  This is why Merlin Miller recently ventured into Tehran for the New Horizon Independent Film Festival hosted by Director Mohammad Tayyeb and a host of others.  Miller is a West Point graduate, former American Army Officer and Paramount Pictures producer.  He is sick of what the Zionist Lobby is doing to this country, and to the rest of the world.  He needs our help to level the cinematic playing field with this project.  Decent people everywhere will profit if it comes to pass.

I want to make something absolutely clear.  Involvement in this is not for the faint of heart.  Dr. Philip Giraldi, former CIA Station Chief, head of the Council for the National Interest, and columnist for The American Conservative and, has warned Mark Glenn and a few of the rest of us that we may want to join Giraldi in being abroad after the American elections.  Why?  Draw your own conclusions regarding what may well be soon upon all of us.  The clock is ticking.  It is terrifying.  And Israel’s propaganda machine in the United States is kicking in to make it happen, everyone from Rupert Murdoch andFox News to John Hagee, the rotund Zionist-mouthpiece of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio.

Kourosh Ziabari: Can we interpret the 9/11 attacks in the context of a false flag operation aimed at providing the U.S. government with a
convincing pretext to wage wars in the Middle East and dominate the vast oil reserves of the region?

Globe-trotting international journalist Kourosh Ziabari of Iran

Mark Dankof: This is clearly my interpretation, both in terms of oil and natural gas resources and pipelines, as well as providing Netanyahu and his Likudniks the pretext to expand the borders of Eretz Yisrael from the Nile River to the Tigris and Euphrates.  The position papers of theProject of the New American Century (PNAC)entitled, “A Clean Break:  A Strategy for Securing the Realm,” and the September 2000 PNAC production ofRabbi Dov Zakheim, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz and Company entitled, “Rebuilding America’s Defenses,” are prima facie evidence of this, in my opinion.  It is noteworthy that in the September 2000 release, the authors advocate another “catastrophic and catalyzing event–like Pearl Harbor” to get the American public behind a perpetual war footing and military presence in the Middle East and Central Asia.  Reading these PNAC releases in conjunction with Robert Stinnett’s book on FDR and Pearl Harbor entitled, “Day of Deceit,” and Pat Buchanan’s review of Herbert Hoover’s diary on FDR and Pearl Harbor, should contextualize how ominous this reference really is.

We are headed for a Third World War spearheaded by the Zionist/Talmudic Ideology of Racial Supremacy, Jewish International Banking, and Oil and Natural Gas Consortiums.  It will be sold to the American public as something in their own interest and in the interest of protecting the homeland.  This is absolutely absurd.  Last night, when watching an NFL football game, I witnessed an outlandish United States Marine Corps recruiting ad which showed a bunch of American kids in high technology military uniforms and helmets, the latest automatic weaponry, and plenty of zeal, disembarking from amphibious vehicles and charging into the teeth of enemy fire and smoke on a shoreline.  The orchestrated music in the background and the video-game appearance of the ad, were topped off by the punchline of the advertised appeal to join the War Machine:  Which Way Will You Run? Goebbels would have been proud. Unfortunately for the kids who may be motivated to sign up courtesy of this NFL halftime advertisement, they’ll discover an amphibious assault launched on Iran in the Persian Gulf theatre is not a video game.  And the American public will discover Netanyahu’s agents in the United States have sold them an entire bill of goods once again.

Kourosh Ziabari: According to Amnesty International, of the 173 men being kept at the Guantanamo Bay prison, only three have convicted and their trial “failed to meet international fair trial standards.” What’s your viewpoint regarding this horrendous detention facility which President Obama had promised to close, the people who are being kept there under charges of terrorism and the destiny which awaits them?

Mark Dankof:  It is clearly unacceptable.  But it mirrors Obama’s commitment to the ongoing development of a domestic American police state, as I said on Press TV.  An American President whose Justice Department actually argues in public has the authority to order the assassination of American citizens on suspicion of terrorist activities or involvement with a terrorist group, without charges, trial, and legal representation, has a non-existent view of the American Constitution, Bill of Rights, and habeas corpus.  This parallels Obama’s continuation of the PNAC/Bush/Cheney/Wolfowitz foreign policy in the Middle East.  Millions of people who voted for this guy have been betrayed.  The vexing quandary is that the only alternative to him is Mitt Romney, clearly bought and paid for by the Israeli Lobby, as the Sheldon Adelson connection underscores.  And Congress is also bought and paid for in terms of Netanyahu’s machine.  Just take a look at the yearly list of Congressional contributions to political candidates emanating from Israel-friendly PACs as published by theWashington Report on Middle East Affairs.  The evil fruits of all of this are evident, and underscore Dr. Philip Giraldi’s friendly warning to anti-Zionist, pro-freedom, antiwar activists that they might enjoy living somewhere else in the near future.  The nightmare of Palestine, Gaza, Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and soon Iran, will be accompanied by the continued transformation of the United States into a country whose economy, foreign policy, government, media, and educational establishment are simply enslaved to what Greg Felton refers to as the Zionist Parasite.  I no longer recognize the America of my youth.  Others tell me the same thing.  At least a few of us understand why this has happened, and what it likely means for the future.

Kourosh Ziabari: Do you see the 9/11 events as some kind of justification for waging a military, media and cultural war against Islam? Following the attacks, we have seen a tremendous rise of Islamophobic sentiments in the U.S. and Europe, and offensive insults to the Islamic sacraments. You remember the Jyllands-Posten cartoons ridiculing Prophet Muhammad, the burning of the Holy Quran by Pastor Terry Jones, the recent anti-Islamic movie by Sam Bacile and other attacks on the Islamic values in the West. What’s your evaluation of these events and their
connection to the 9/11 attacks?

Mark Dankof:  There is a direct connection of all of this to Israeli money and Jewish interests.  The Think Progress report proves it.  This is just the tip of the iceberg.  The plan is to desecrate the Islamic faith, as Jewish interests subverted and financed the earlier American Christian cultural demise and eclipse with pornography, abortion-on-demand, the homosexual rights movement, and movies and TV shows that trashed orthodox Christianity, the substitutionary atonement of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and the New Testament.  When there are angry protests against this desecration of Islam in North Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Indian Subcontinent, the Zionists will have succeeded in demonizing Islamic people of faith as violent, irrational, dark-skinned extremists.  The subliminal message in the West is that Arabs and Iranians aren’t truly human beings made in the Image of God and that invading and occupying their countries is legitimate and honorable, while  killing them and destroying their families and communities isn’t a problem for a “civilized” society that wants to help itself to their property and natural resources.  This all serves the Zionist Eretz Yisrael agenda, the Oil and Natural Gas Consortiums, and the Bankers.  It also serves to weaken legitimate Christianity and Islam by pitting them against each other when they should be in natural alliance, facilitating the destruction of the opposition to the New World Order Ben Gurion envisioned.  We must not fall for this. Decent people in the West and in the Islamic world must join forces against this evil Divide and Conquerstrategy. This is why my radio partner, Mark Glenn, started his Crescent and Cross outreach some years ago.  Glenn was one of the first to recognize how the Master Plan of the Hidden Hand was being put together.  He’s been proven right through time, as the Sam Bacile film release corroborates.  Eric Margolis clearly tagged this latest piece of cinematic trash “Neo-Conservative pornography” serving the interest of those promoting the War of Civilizations.  That War of Civilizations is clearly synonymous with the Zionist agenda and gameplan.  They are one and the same.

Kourosh Ziabari: Do you find any connection between the 9/11 attacks and the long-run policies of the United States government in denigrating Iran and endangering its interests in the region? It was after the 9/11 attacks that George W. Bush declared his War on Terror and branded Iran as part of an Axis of Evil. He had devised plans to attack Iran, but his term ended and he couldn’t fulfill his promise of invading
Iran. What’s your take on that?

Mark Dankof:  American machinations go back to Kermit Roosevelt’s Operation Ajax in 1953.  The Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979 was a response to what the United States had been doing in that country in the previous quarter of a century, among many other things.  Since 1979, it is clear that Zionist and American imperial interests were interested in bringing back an Iranian regime that could be controlled by these interests.  Bush was demonizing Iran as part of the Axis of Evil, clearly at the behest of the Bankers, the Oil Consortiums, and the PNAC/Zionist crowd.  A future preemptive military strike on Iran would meet with the approval of the Oil Consortiums and Saudi Arabia, the Bankers who want to preserve the declining American dollar as the reserve currency of the planet, and Israel’s Likudniks.  This is the alliance which is creating trumped up charges about Iran’s nuclear program and their alleged threat to the survivability of the planet.  The only people threatening the planet and world peace are the people trying to get this war started.  Make no mistake about it.

Kourosh Ziabari: Reacting to the 9/11 attacks, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “It’s very good… Well, it’s not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy [for Israel].” In what ways have the 9/11 events served the interests of the Israeli regime? Will Tel Aviv
continue to benefit from the repercussions of the 9/11?

Mark Dankof:  In the short term, it created the climate of American public support for the idiotic and destructive policies which followed September 11, 2001, including using the American military as a Janissary Force in support of the Likud/Netanyahu agenda in Palestine, the Middle East, and Central Asia, while heading for national economic bankruptcy while doing so.  This policy of Likud is an extension of the earlier Irgun and Stern Gang policy shared by David Ben Gurion himself:  to “restore the Kingdom of David and Solomon to its biblical borders,” the so-called Eretz Yisrael, or Greater Israel vision for not only controlling the territory from the Nile River to the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, but governing the entire planet from a Jewish-controlled Jerusalem in global control of the International Banking System and all the nations of the earth in subservience to it. These pro-Zionist zealots in John Hagee’s “Christian” cult are operating in self-delusion and self-contradiction at precisely this point.  How does support of World Government and the New World Order equate with being “pro-America?”  How does commitment to Jesus Christ and his Kingdom equate with support for something rooted in a doctrine of racial supremacy, violence, theft, and deception? What is the New Testament’s understanding of the composition of the eschatological evil of 2 Thessalonians 2 and Revelation 13?

Exposure of the nature and methodology of Zionism, combined with the catastrophic consequences for those who support it in the United States and Europe, will change Israel’s status as a cunning beneficiary of 9-11 to its ultimate victim.  I predict that there will be a backlash against Zionism and the Israeli Lobby once the disaster they have crafted for everyone else completely materializes.  It may take a Third World War and a global economic collapse to facilitate that.  But it will happen.  It will make Iranian backlash against the American and British policies in Iran from 1953 to 1979 look like child’s play by comparison.  Those who truly planned, plotted, and implemented what happened in New York City on September 11, 2001, will rue the day they did.

Kourosh Ziabari: What’s your analysis of the U.S. mainstream media’s coverage of the 9/11 attacks and its aftermaths? Which trajectory and policy line did they follow? Now, almost one decade after the attacks, how are they reacting to the different controversies surrounding the event?

Mark Dankof: The mainstream U. S. media, as we have already seen, sustained the myth regarding the perpetrators of the 9-11 attacks and the legitimacy of American military operations in the Middle East and Central Asia thereafter.  They did so as agents of Zionism, Banking, Oil, and Multinational Consortiums and Interests.  This is why the employment of Alternative Media, the Internet, and Foreign Media is so essential in removing the veil regarding the role of the U. S. mainstream media in perpetrating fraud and tragedy. The falsehoods and mythologies they continue to perpetrate on Pearl Harbor, the Kennedy Assassination, the USS Liberty attack, and 9-11 must be absolutely exposed and debunked, not simply in the interest of a recovery of historical truth, but to accomplish the defenestration of Mainstream Media once and for all.  This would remove them as an effective force in selling the False Flag incident soon to come which is being planned to legitimize and sell a preemptive military attack on Iran. Their absolute defenestration forever would be a prelude to a cleansing of all of the other corrupt American and global institutions corrupted by the Mark of the Beast.  Their comprehensive discrediting and defeat would give the rest of us a foothold in regaining control of our respective houses.  Let the effort begin.
