Linda Rodgers, SWP Edinburgh Branch, Shop Steward, Scottish Women’s Aid

I am writing to express my condemnation of the process used by the leadership of the SWP to deal with an allegation of rape.  As the shop steward at Scottish Women’s Aid I am horrified that the leadership of the SWP – of which I have been a member for 18 years – thought that it was in a position to investigate a serious crime such as rape. Would the DC have investigated a murder? I would guess not, but then what does that say about the level of seriousness with which the CC and DC treat rape?

The series of decisions made by the CC and the DC around the processes for dealing with this allegation of rape and their inability to either pull back from them when they started to go wrong, or to respond reasonably to criticism after the fact (despite access to a very clear analysis of what was wrong with the decisions made) indicate a real lack of understanding of rape, its definition and its consequences.

In addition to my concerns about the sheer inappropriateness of some of the lines of questioning -as raised by many others – I have a more general concern about the lack of specialism in the DC which is required when dealing with rape victims, and the separate set of specialist skills required when investigating rape when there is only one word against another.  This allegation is about rape and sustained abuse within a relationship with a huge power imbalance rather than for example an isolated incident. My point is not that certain types of rape are more or less serious others. My point is that the investigators were not trained in understanding and investigating the different manifestations of violence against women and the various responses required depending on the experience of the woman.

We do reject the bourgeois system of justice but in this case aspects of the bourgeois process were used, and having read the available documents relating to this case it is not convincing that there was a there a clear analysis and understanding of what aspects of an investigatory and quasi-judicial process were accepted and which were rejected. Clear decisions around process needed to be made and then fully explained to the complainant so that she was aware of what exactly she was getting into, its limitations and how effective it could possibly be in terms of her need for a resolution and could make her own choice on that basis.

This shambolic playing at investigator, judge and jury held a real risk of ruining someone’s life and it is no thanks to the leadership of the SWP and only testimony to the woman’s strength if it hasn’t.

The response of the CC following the leaking of documents onto the internet and the subsequent media publicity has been the shamefully offensive “Statement by the Central Committee in response to attacks on the party”. This document is only further evidence of the failures of this process.

“Had the Disputes Committee believed that the accused person was guilty, it would have expelled him from the SWP immediately.” This statement alone sums up my point. Really? Do you think this could be an adequate response to rape? No responsibility to any other woman who might be at risk?

This document also states:

“If this case had been raised within a trade union or any other organisation there would be no question that the matter should be treated with complete confidentiality. This basic principle should also apply in this case.”

Of course confidentiality should apply; however, confidentiality really isn’t the issue here. The decisions you made and the way in which you handled the investigation are the issues. Focusing on confidentiality is a poor attempt to obscure the failings of the process and close down the debate.

As anyone who works in an organisation or operates in a trades union knows full well this matter would NOT have been dealt with through internal mechanisms. The procedures for investigating disciplinary matters or disputes between colleagues are not used by organisations or trades unions to investigate serious crimes. How could you not know that? Or are you just assuming that a sheepish membership will accept this untruth?

Even by your own terms you failed to follow the “basic principles” of a standard trade union process.  I would refer you to ACAS good practice guidelines in terms of appointing individuals to panels that don’t have a personal connection with the individuals involved in the dispute being heard.

The introductory statement to the document is also untrue:

“A series of attacks on the party have appeared over the last few days – many in newspapers which are the sworn enemies of women’s liberation and workers’ rights”.
Most of the attacks on the actions of the CC and the DC are not in newspapers which are the ‘sworn enemies of women’s liberation’. Again, why lie to us? It does your position no good at all – most of us do have access to the internet.  The issue at hand for the membership is never what the enemies of women’s liberation and workers’ rights say about us and to us, but rather how we can hold our head up and explain our actions and decisions with integrity to the world outside of the party with which we come into contact on a day to day basis. Your actions have seriously damaged the party’s integrity and members’ ability to operate.

Finally, it is false to claim that the party is somehow immune from sexism. There is no theoretical or evidence basis for making this claim.

I have seriously considered my position in the party over the last few days. I know many others who feel the same way that I do.  I have decided I want to stay a member, however I can only remain as a member of the SWP on the basis that action is taken to remedy this:

· Conference must be recalled and the entire CC and DC need to resign.
· There needs to be an immediate and public apology to both of the women who made complaints including an acknowledgment of the mishandling of their complaints, and
· An immediate apology must be made to the membership of the SWP who have been shockingly let down by their leadership.

I would appreciate a sensible and thoughtful response to this letter.

Zio-Nazi Ambassador to the UN Prosor: Ahmadinejad denies Shoah, while threatening to carry out another one

Holocaust survivors, their families and delegates of their cause flooded the General Assembly hall of the United Nations on Friday, where the international body commemorated the victims of Nazism with a day of remembrance on the 68th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

The ceremony opened with a moment of silence followed by a pre-taped message by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who promised that the UN body, founded out of the principles of humanity highlighted by the Holocaust, would “never again” let such an atrocity occur.

But the words of Republic of the Congo Ambassador Raymond Serge Balé subtly challenged the reality of that promise. Over 5,600,000 Congolese have perished since 1998 in war-related deaths, according to an International Rescue Committee report. Balé was only one of two foreign ambassadors from countries other than Israel to speak at the event.

“The Holocaust was a turning point in the history of mankind,” Balé said, calling on the body to remember its founding principles.

Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor also spoke to the hall, reminding those in attendance that, from the very same venue in which he stood, leaders of nation states have denied a moment in history that included the documented, systematic killing of over 6,000,000 Jews.

“We live in a world filled with prejudice and violence. A world in which anti-Semitism is sponsored, taught and spread by governments, clerics, and schoolteachers,” Prosor said. “Every year, from this very podium, the Iranian president denies the Holocaust while threatening to carry out another one.”

At a breakfast before the ceremony held to honor the day, B’nai B’rith International president Allan J. Jacobs warned that denials will continue as more time passes and more witnesses pass on.

“We know that’s going to happen, ” Jacobs said. “There is certainly a dichotomy that exists. And we’ll continue to fight that in every venue we can, including at the UN.”

Throughout the somber event, which included a cantor’s prayer and a melancholy performance from a chamber ensemble, the loudest moment came in the form of applause at the end of Prosor’s speech.

“From the hills of Jerusalem, to the camps of Treblinka, to the halls of the United Nations,” Prosor stated, “we say—as we have said for hundred generations before us, and our children will say long after us—Am Yisrael Chai. The people of Israel will live.”

One man in attendance, Bernehard Storch, 90, lost his entire family in Nazi concentration camps as he fought in the Polish army, through the re-occupation of Warsaw in 1945.

He comes every year to honor them, he says, wearing the medals he won fighting for their freedoms.

“As President Obama has said, ‘We must tell our children—but more than that, we must teach them. Because remembrance without resolve is a hollow gesture,’” quoted US ambassador Susan Rice in a press release. “We cannot bring back the victims of the Shoah. But we can rededicate ourselves to expanding the reach of human decency, human dignity, and human rights—today and all days.”

Ed Noor: Remember that this legislation will be written by Jewish power. The creation of such a book sets a blueprint and legitimizes these crimes against humanity. The Jewish way is not the humane way; it is, by following the letter of their own Talmudic Noahide Laws, a legal document legalizing and justifying further murder of the gentile both directly and through instigation of terrorism potentially leading to large scale combat.

Remember also, the deadliest of the gangsters, the old nasties, the ones we do not hear about since all media focus is on the Italians, was a group known as Murder Inc, all top level Jewish mobsters considered by most Jews to be “good Jewish boys” in their own community.

In one sense the Obama administration’s reported creation of a “playbook” establishing rules for killing alleged terrorists helps to meet calls from outside commentators ~this one included ~ to clarify the criteria that are being applied to such assassinations.
Writing this kind of manual, however, has another side.
It represents the institutionalization of worldwide assassinations as a regular, ongoing business of the United States government.
As such it raises larger questions, which the playbook might not address at all, of how an assassination program does or does not conform with the pursuit of U.S. national interests.
Institutionalization of anything entails a bias toward its indefinite continuation, and maybe even its expansion. This tendency has often been discussed regarding other government programs, sometimes with a tie-in to what is outside government.
The military-industrial complex about which Eisenhower warned, for example, represents a bias toward big defense expenditures and military operations to justify such expenditures.
Likewise, it has often been remarked that creation of a bureaucracy to run domestic program X immediately creates a vested interest in favor of continuing and even expanding program X.
Why should such tendencies not be just as likely to appear with an assassination program?
The Washington Post‘s story about the manual leads with the news not only that the manual is near completion but also that it will not be applied for a year or two to drone strikes in Pakistan. Thus what is considered short-term and exceptional is limited to what is going on now in Pakistan. By implication and contrast, all of the other worldwide assassinations constitute something regular and long-term, and, so far as we know, limitless in both duration and geographic scope.

The Talmud Terrorist ~ drawn by a Jew

Lest we forget, it was not all that long ago that Americans and their presidents considered assassinations sufficiently contrary to American values that we should rule them out, as Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan all did by executive order.

What has changed since then to erase this determination?
Oh, there’s 9/11 of course, although the unraveling of the prohibition on assassinations actually began (with Osama bin Laden in particular in mind) a few years before 9/11. And even if it were all about 9/11, why should the fact that one bunch of terrorists hit a high-casualty jackpot be a reason for us to change our thinking on this subject in such an apparently fundamental way?
Regarding morality, since this was originally a matter of consistency with American values, have our values really changed that much?
Regarding legality, is there no limit to which that one resolution authorizing force that Congress passed in the emotional week after 9/11 be stretched in terms of either duration or geographic scope?
It is also interesting that this soon-to-be-completed document is referred to as a “playbook.”
In football, a playbook is a very tactical manual that organizes the quick thinking that coaches and players have to do on each play. If you see the opponent lining up a certain way, you can draw on the playbook for a play that has a chance to work well over the next 30 seconds. But the playbook doesn’t provide any help in bigger decisions with larger and longer term consequences, such as whether to leave your injured star quarterback in the game.
A manual on eliminating goyim whilst pleasing G-d published a few years ago:It flew off the shelves in Israel, read by the people who have re-approved Bibi Netanyahu, mass murderer, for another term in office

Similarly, having a playbook on assassinations sounds like it is apt to be a useful guide for making the quick decision whether to pull the trigger on a Hellfire missile when a suspected terrorist is in the sights of a drone.
But it probably will not, as far as we know, be of any help in weighing larger important issues such as whether such a killing is likely to generate more future anti-U.S. terrorism because of the anger over collateral casualties than it will prevent by taking a bad guy out of commission.
By routinizing and institutionalizing a case-by-case set of criteria, there is even the hazard that officials will devote less deliberation than they otherwise would have to such larger considerations because they have the comfort and reassurance of following a manual.
Criticism about the standards for conducting the drone strikes has been not just about having clear criteria, but having criteria that are known to someone other than those in the executive branch who are carrying out the assassination program.
Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), to his credit, has led the complaining about this subject. In a recent letter to John Brennan he noted that the legal justifications involved are still inaccessible not only to the public but even to the Congressional intelligence committees.

So we have the worst of two different directions that administration of the assassination program could go.
On one hand there is an institutionalization of the program that threatens to make it as firmly entrenched a function of the U.S. government as Social Security.
On the other hand is a continued opacity that precludes the kind of informed and meaningful debate that ~ because American values are involved ~ would be necessary to determine whether indefinite continuation of the program is something the United States really ought to do.

How US Ambassador Chris Stevens May Have Been Linked To Jihadist Rebels In Syria

The official position is that the US has refused to allow heavy weapons into Syria.

But there’s growing evidence that U.S. agents—particularly murdered ambassador Chris Stevens—were at least aware of heavy weapons moving from Libya to jihadist Syrian rebels.

In March 2011 Stevens became the official U.S. liaison to the al-Qaeda-linked Libyan opposition, working directly with Abdelhakim Belhadj of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group—a group that has now disbanded, with some fighters reportedly participating in the attack that took Stevens’ life.

In November 2011 The Telegraph reported that Belhadj, acting as head of the Tripoli Military Council, “met with Free Syrian Army [FSA] leaders in Istanbul and on the border with Turkey” in an effort by the new Libyan government to provide money and weapons to the growing insurgency in Syria.

Last month The Times of London reported that a Libyan ship “carrying the largest consignment of weapons for Syria … has docked in Turkey.” The shipment reportedly weighed 400 tons and included SA-7 surface-to-air anti-craft missiles and rocket-propelled grenades.

Those heavy weapons are most likely from Muammar Gaddafi’s stock of about 20,000 portable heat-seeking missiles—the bulk of them SA-7s—that the Libyan leader obtained from the former Eastern bloc. Reuters reports that Syrian rebels have been using those heavy weapons to shoot down Syrian helicopters and fighter jets.

The ship’s captain was ”a Libyan from Benghazi and the head of an organization called the Libyan National Council for Relief and Support,” which was presumably established by the new government.

That means that Ambassador Stevens had only one person—Belhadj—between himself and the Benghazi man who brought heavy weapons to Syria.

Furthermore, we know that jihadists are the best fighters in the Syrian opposition, but where did they come from?

Last week The Telegraph reported that a FSA commander called them “Libyans” when he explained that the FSA doesn’t “want these extremist people here.”

And if the new Libyan government was sending seasoned Islamic fighters and 400 tons of heavy weapons to Syria through a port in southern Turkey—a deal brokered by Stevens’ primary Libyan contact during the Libyan revolution—then the governments of Turkey and the U.S. surely knew about it.

Furthermore there was a CIA post in Benghazi, located 1.2 miles from the U.S. consulate, used as “a base for, among other things, collecting information on the proliferation of weaponry looted from Libyan government arsenals, including surface-to-air missiles” … and that its security features “were more advanced than those at rented villa where Stevens died.”

And we know that the CIA has been funneling weapons to the rebels in southern Turkey. The question is whether the CIA has been involved in handing out the heavy weapons from Libya.

In any case, the connection between Benghazi and the rise of jihadists in Syria is stronger than has been officially acknowledged.

Venezuela: Henrique Capriles Radonski Israel’s Man

by Martin Iqbal.

Henrique Capriles Radonski – leader of the Venezuelan opposition – vows to downgrade ties with Iran and cut subsidised oil to Cuba and Nicaragua, should he get into power. What is more, his coalition has links to Israel, and both of his parents are Jewish, though he claims to be a ‘fervent Catholic’.

At a rally in June 2010, much to the disdain of the American Jewish Committee which dismissed the accusations as ‘baseless’,(1) Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez publicly stated that Israel is funding the Venezuelan opposition:

An inspection of the profile of Henrique Capriles Radonski – leader of the Venezuelan opposition – not only elicits deep suspicion, but in fact completely validates the claims made by Chavez.

Firstly, Radonski is the youngest Venezuelan MP ever elected – being elected as an MP at age 26. After entering politics at the age of 25, he became Venezuela’s youngest ever deputy in Congress, and was subsequently chosen to be Vice President of the House. Secondly, he has enjoyed a ‘meteoric rise through the political ranks‘, in the BBC’s wording,(2) insofar as he has held a number of posts, and has not lost a single election.

Radonski’s anti-Iran Stance

In September 2012 the UK Telegraph accompanied Radonski on the campaign trail, wherein he stated(3)what he would do on his ‘first day in office‘. Not only does he signify his intention to downgrade Venezuela’s diplomatic relations with Iran, but he also intends to end subsidised oil to Cuba and Nicaragua – something which would please the United States Government to no end.

“On his first day in office, he said, he would halt the “gifts” of free or heavily-subsidised oil to Mr Chavez’s left-wing ideological allies in Cuba and Nicaragua.”

Radonski informed the Telegraph that the “cosy relationship with Iran would end“, because “Venezuela needs good relations with countries that have democracy and respect human rights“.

Contrary to Chavez’s economically nationalistic policies, Radonski makes clear his neoliberalist stance and his alliance with big business as he decries Chavez’s land reform programme which redistributed Venezuelan land from wealthy foreign owners to poor Venezuelan farmers:

“The expropriations were a big mistake, the whole policy has been a fiasco,”…”Nothing works now. Venezuela has 30 million hectares of fertile land but we only use less than 10 per cent of it and we now import 80 per cent of our food, including rice from the so-called US ‘imperialists’.”

He promised to review each such case of land redistribution with a view to returning the land to its former wealthy foreign owners. This includes Chavez’s seizure of estates from the Vestey Group, which is a ranching and sugar cane company headed by Lord Vestey, one of Britain’s richest men.

Germany Urges EU Countries to Step Up Support of Venezuelan Opposition

In the May 18th 2012 edition of Venezuelan paper ‘Correo Del Orinoco‘ it was reported(4) that, at a EU meeting on Latin American affairs, the German government asked EU countries to step up their support of the MUD (‘Democratic Unity Roundtable’) coalition (the Venezuelan opposition coalition now headed by Henrique Capriles Radonski).

While German government representatives called for such support not to be hidden from the public, Portugal and France called for a more secretive approach. In addition, the report mentions the direct financial support that the Venezuelan opposition enjoys from not only USAID, but also the Zionist and anti-democratic ‘National Endowment for Democracy’.
Ledezma meets with Netanyahu in Israel.

Venezuelan Opposition Made Secret Visit to Israel

Even more revealing is the fact that, on the weekend prior to the 18th May 2012 publication, Venezuelan opposition lawyer and politician Antonio Ledezma secretly flew to Israel – a country which Venezuela has severed diplomatic ties with – on Venezuelan taxpayer money, to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on a three-day visit.

During Ledezma’s private, unannounced trip to Israel paid for with public Venezuelan money, he promised to re-establish ties with the usurping Zionist entity if the Jewish settler state would fund and back Henrique Capriles Radonski. Ledezma told reporters that he spoke to Netanyahu and Lieberman about,

“our (the opposition) disposition to reestablish relations with the State of Israel under a new government presided by Henrique Capriles Radonski”…“In contrast to the current political policy in Venezuela, Capriles will re-establish our historical ties”

Speaking of Ledezma’s meeting with Netanyahu and Lieberman, Venezuelan journalist Miguel Angel Perez Pirela reported that Ledezma had promised Israel “access to [Venezuela’s] resources” should Rodonski take the presidential election.

Radonski, a man who feels Venezuela must only have relations with “countries that have democracy and respect human rights“, shows his duplicity as he reaches out to the Zionist entity – a routine human rights abuser which constitutes a Jewish ethnocracy on stolen Palestinian land.

Radonski: ‘Fervent Catholic’ with Jewish Parents

The aforementioned BBC article deceptively refers to Radonski merely as ‘Henrique Capriles’ – choosing to omit his blatantly Jewish surname. Later in the article there is an allusion to his Jewish background; the BBC report casually states that, ‘His maternal grandparents were Jews‘. Well, as far as ‘Israel’ is concerned, that would make his mother a Jew, which makes him a Jew.

Interestingly, what the BBC article fails to mention is that in fact, not only are his mother’s parents Jewish, but his father is also of Jewish ancestry. While Radonski’s mother is a purebred Ashkenazi Jew, his father is of Sephardi Jewish ancestry.(5)

Though Radonski is ostensibly a ‘fervent Catholic’,(5) both of his parents are of Jewish descent. Make of that what you will, but considering his stated willingness to isolate Iran and his opposition coalition’s established relationship with the Zionist entity, this is perhaps a fact worth bearing in mind.

Venezuela enjoys excellent relations with Iran. Furthermore, Hugo Chavez severed ties with Israel after the Zionist state’s murderous assault on Gaza in 2008-2009. At the time, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry stated, “Israel has repeatedly ignored the calls of the United Nations, consistently and shamelessly violating the resolutions approved by overwhelming majorities of member countries, increasingly placing itself on the margin of international law…Israel’s state terrorism has cost the lives of the most vulnerable and innocent: children, women, and the elderly“. If Radonski – Israel’s man in Venezuela – takes the next election, that is all bound to change. Thankfully, with pro-Bolivarian million man marches(6) taking place in the streets in the wake of Hugo Chavez’s absence, along with Chavez’s party crushing the opposition in the recent gubernatorial elections,(7) such a scenario is highly unlikely.
