GAP Promotes Privacy Statement for All Emails to Protest Mass Surveillance Revealed by Whistleblower Edward Snowden

The Government Accountability Project (GAP) is distributing and encouraging use of a Privacy Statement for all Internet users to adopt as part of their signature line in their online communications. Similar to the standard legal disclaimers found at the end of many emails, this Privacy Statement goes further by explicitly prohibiting the collection of the communication and related metadata by the National Security Agency (NSA), consistent with the disclosures of the bulk metadata collection program revealed by GAP client Edward Snowden in June 2013.

“For anyone who wonders what they can do about the surveillance state, this is one very tangible act of protest you can perform today,” stated GAP Executive Director Beatrice Edwards. “This is a reminder to both senders and recipients that dragnet warrantless surveillance affects us all. It’s illegal and highly intrusive in our daily lives.”

The 2014 GAP Privacy Statement reads as follows:

This communication may be unlawfully collected and stored by the National Security Agency (NSA) in secret. The parties to this email do not consent to the retrieving or storing of this communication and any related metadata, as well as printing, copying, re-transmitting, disseminating, or otherwise using it. If you believe you have received this communication in error, please delete it immediately.

GAP encourages all participating in the February 11 Day We Fight Back, sponsored by the ACLU, Access, Demand Progress, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Fight for the Future, Free Press, Freedom of the Press Foundation, Mozilla, Reddit, ThoughtWorks and many others, to include this message as part of their stand against mass surveillance.

GAP champions government and corporate accountability and transparency by defending whistleblowers and advancing occupational free speech. Since its founding in 1977, GAP has helped in the effective exercise of conscience of over 5,000 whistleblowers.

Anti-Fast Track Mobilization to be Extended After More Than Half a Million People Take Action

WASHINGTON – February 4 – Today, a diverse network of organizations opposing Fast Track legislation announced they are extending their 10 days of activism following massive and widespread public action. Since its inception on January 22nd, more than 100 new groups have joined the effort at, including Coalition for a Prosperous America, Ben & Jerry’s, Free Software Foundation, SumOfUs, Democracy for America, Friends of the Earth, Namecheap, and CREDO — adding to an already impressive, and unlikely, list of groups like reddit, Sierra Club, AFL-CIO, MoveOn, LabelGMOs, and Fight for the Future.

The social-media-fueled campaign has been embraced by more than 120 organizations and coincided with more than 50 rallies and teach-ins across the U.S., Canada and Mexico last week alone. Nearly 600,000 people have signed petitions or sent emails to lawmakers, and members of Congress have already received more than 40,000 phone calls from constituents who oppose Fast Track. A simultaneous social media push known as a Thunderclap reached 5.4 million users and received support from actor Mark Ruffalo, author Cory Doctorow, and tech celebrity Tim O’Reilly.

“When we launched this effort about ten days ago, we had 20 groups participating — now we have 120,” said Evan Greer, campaign manager at Fight for the Future, the Internet freedom group that helped initiate the effort. “It’s time for those in power to read the writing on the wall; people from across the political spectrum overwhelmingly oppose anti-democratic Fast Track legislation, and we won’t allow decisions that affect all of us to be made behind closed doors.”

See the full list of 120 organizations participating

See photos from more than 50 protests and events:

Last week a nationwide, bipartisan poll found that voters oppose fast track authority by more than 2-1. The poll also found that members of Congress who vote to approve Fast Track — especially Republicans — are taking a political risk.

The massive mobilization from Fast Track opponents has clearly made an impact in Washington, with Senate Majority leader Harry Reid coming out in opposition to Fast Track, but organizers caution that the fight is not over. They plan a public petition delivery in the coming weeks to increase pressure on Congress to oppose the Fast Track bill.

“The only way we’re going to stop the secret corporate power grab known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership is if we stop Fast Track. That’s why we’re proud to stand with the scores of other organizations who are engaged in this fight,” said Becky Bond, Political Director of CREDO. “When so many organizations with diverse backgrounds and concerns stand together, it sends a powerful message. If you think the American people will allow Congress to abdicate its responsibility by passing Fast Track, prepare to be disappointed.”

Michael Stumo, CEO of the Coalition for a Prosperous America, stated: “Our members oppose giving President Obama even more executive authority through Fast Track.  We need a new trade agenda to balance trade and to prevent further outsourcing our sovereignty to international institutions.  We will be watching Tea Party caucus members to make sure they do not favor these global government agreements.”

David Cascino, CEO of Thunderclap, stated: “Now that people can rapidly organize around social media, phone call campaigns and targeted emails, it’s getting increasingly difficult for politicians to make decisions behind closed doors.”

Steve Anderson, Executive Director of said: “We know that the TPP will make the Internet more expensive, censored, and policed. That’s why hundreds of thousands are speaking out to stop it being rammed through Congress without a debate. It’s never been more important to pick up the phone and tell your Member of Congress to stop Fast Tracking a deal that would criminalize your online activity, invade your privacy, and cost you money.”

“The breadth of opposition to Fast Tracking the TPP in any form whatsoever shows that the people will not be fooled by rigged corporate trade agreements. The TPP is so bad that it unites people in vehement opposition — entire cities and towns are already saying that they will not obey laws passed in secret that will harm them. If Congress moves forward on Fast Track, we expect growing resistance that will include disruption of re-election campaigns.” said Dr. Margaret Flowers of, an outgrowth of the Occupy Movement.

“Rainforest Action Network seeks to challenge corporate power where it undermines the interests of people and planet,” said Lindsey Allen, executive director of Rainforest Action Network (RAN).”The TPP is a profit-driven frontal assault on democracy and issues core to RAN’s work and in a time where we need every tool necessary to address global climate disruption, it is unacceptable to use an undemocratic shortcut like Fast Track to force through the TPP and usurp the interests of millions.”

Communications Workers of America President Larry Cohen said, “Voters across the political spectrum are energized. They know this deal affects everybody – small business, workers, anyone who cares about about the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the jobs we hold. Americans are asking what kind of future do we want? We don’t want a trillion-dollar trade deficit. We need to reset our trade policy, so that it works for everyone, not just big corporations.”

“The Obama administration’s plan to ram two potentially devastating international trade agreements through Congress appears to be slowing down thanks to widespread opposition, but we’re not taking any chances,” said Ronnie Cummins International Director of the Organic Consumers Association. “We must stop trade deals that would weaken U.S. and world food safety standards, threaten domestic and international food sovereignty laws, and allow transnational corporations to sue governments for alleged future lost profits unless the corporations are allowed to freely peddle their unproven, unsafe goods with reckless regard for existing food safety laws.”

Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, said, “The widespread interest in “Fast Track” from across the political spectrum is no surprise.  It’s only more evidence of what America’s workers have known for a long time: America’s workforce deserves better than warmed over trade deals, which will do nothing to raise wages or reduce our $540 billion trade deficit.  The United States is long overdue for an overhaul of its trade priorities and trade practices and that can only happen with an inclusive process that includes all our voices, not just the disproportionate influence of the 1%.”

“With TPP, special interests are gunning for draconian copyright rules that would entrench Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) and chill the development of the free “as-in-freedom” software we need,” said John Sullivan, Executive Director of the Free Software Foundation, “We’re inspired to be part of such a diverse outcry against the Fast Track. It’s clear that people see the damage that TPP’s restrictions would do to freedom and culture.”

“Fast Track authority takes democratic process away from our elected representatives, striking any discussion or debate on trade agreements in Congress, for example, on the upcoming Trans-Pacific Partnership,” says Carleen Pickard, Executive Director of Global Exchange. “Fast Tracking” such an agreement without substantive discussion about it’s impacts is a bad idea”.

“Imports increased three times faster than exports since NAFTA took effect, and our trade deficit is devastating to American workers,” said Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa. “Congress should read every word of these so-called ‘free-trade deals’ to make sure they help American families and to get rid of special deals inserted by corporate lobbyists.”

Elizabeth Warren, MoveOn National TPP Team Coordinator said, “MoveOn’s TPP team is committed to fighting Fast Track in Congress. While we long for good news, and it is tempting to be reassured by Senator Reid’s comments, we need to differentiate between rhetoric and action. His statements could be the opening salvo in a debate over Democratic amendments to the Baucus bill, or he could be setting the stage for an alternate version of Fast Track – traveling under an assumed name – to be sponsored by Ron Wyden, for example. We must remain focused, and continue pressuring House members until a wide majority unequivocally oppose it – on the record –  in ANY form.”

“Across the country, Sierra Club members and supporters are ready to stand up for responsible trade that doesn’t threaten American jobs, our air and water, and our climate,” said Michael Brune, Sierra Club executive director. “The Sierra Club strongly opposes fast track.  This bill not only undermines our democracy, it puts American families and our future at risk.”

A mural to mark 25 years since the murder of solicitor Pat Finucane has been unveiled in west Belfast.

The Belfast lawyer was shot dead by loyalist gunmen at his north Belfast home on February 12, 1989 as he sat down to dinner with his wife and children.

In December 2012 a report into Mr Finucane’s death – ordered by Prime Minister David Cameron and headed up by Sir Desmond de Silva QC – found that agents of the State were involved in the murder and that there were “shocking” levels of collusion.

Sir Desmond’s review of the murder of the Catholic father-of-three found that collusion by the State went beyond a failure to prevent the crime.

Following release of the report David Cameron told the House of Commonsthat the murder was “an appalling crime” and said the degree of collusion exposed was “unacceptable”.

He said, in a message to the family: “I am deeply sorry.”

In a statement yesterday Human Rights group Amnesty Internationalsaid the Government’s failure to hold an independent public inquiry into his death is “not only cruel, but positively sinister”.

Amnesty International’s NI director Patrick Corrigan said: “It is vital for public confidence that this anniversary prompts a rethink over denying the Finucane family an independent public inquiry.”

Mr Finucane’s son John told Amnesty: “The past remains a divisive and caustic issue in our society today. The British Government have added to this deep sense of mistrust when they continue to renege on their promise to enact a full public inquiry into his killing.

“We continue to feel the deep personal loss even after 25 years, yet we remain convinced the best way to honour what my father stood for in life, and in death, is to continue our campaign for truth and justice.”

No electricity, No fuel, No tunnels, No money , No fishing near Rafah , No medication for the ill . Also, No solidarity movement , No boats , No convoys , No humanitarian help . This is the situation in Gaza and you can add to it daily attacks and assaults on behalf of Israelis . It is not just the Israelis who are besieging Gaza, but also the Egyptians and the Palestinian Authority are doing the same .

And, as if this was not enough , you have the NGO called TAMAROD that is a par to the Egyptian TAMAROD who wants to overthrow HAMAS and take the rule and it is coordinating with Egyptians and the Palestinian Authority and maybe with Zionists -who knows?- in order to end the rule of HAMAS in GAZA.

Great challenges Gaza is facing these days and the leadership of HAMAS is not in its best shape . Its credibility has suffered after it has sided with sectarians at the detriment of the cause and now while Arafat’s image has been revived as a Martyr of the cause, poisoned by the enemy , HAMAS needs to save what remains of its reputation without much success .

Regarding the national cause that it claims to carry , HAMAS has lost a big part of its credibility and has become vulnerable to dubious NGO movements like TAMAROD who are monitored by the outside and financed by the US administration. HAMAS has little to show for and is being undermined by the Palestinian Authority and threatened by Israel and Egypt and has lost the unconditional support of its allies : Iran, Syria and Hizbullah .

The only way out of this mess is to have the military faction of HAMAS take the initiative , act as a leader , impose its will , resume the armed struggle and correct the deviation done by Mish’al and Haniyya and others and bring Haniyya and Mish’al and whoever compromised to justice .If HAMAS does not do this it will not be able to face TAMAROD and other fake NGOs who are threatening Gaza . If this is not done , there is no future for HAMAS , it will end the same way the Palestinian Authority ended ie: in the arms of the Israelis.

The green police state is the prelude to genocide

Americans are getting locked down as the screws are tightening and soon all the pieces needed for our subjugation are being firmly put into place. I have the globalist playbook, it is publicly available for anyone who wants to pay attention.

By Dave Hodges

If you drive a car I’ll tax the street
If you try to sit-sit I’ll tax your seat
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat
If you take a walk I’ll tax your feet
Tax man — The Beatles

The Globalist Path to Subjugation and Genocide

1. Deculturize America through massive immigration which will move economic and political power to the Constitutionally ignorant. When the pretense of having Constitutional rights is finally stripped away, 30 million illegals will never know what hit them because they have never enjoyed freedom. Meanwhile, the sheer weight of their numbers is destroying hospitals, overcrowding schools and generally draining our social services. The face of America has changed. America is now proof that if you take on enough third world immigrants, you will become a third world country. Mission accomplished, this objective has been achieved.

2. Deindustrialize America through a series of free trade agreements in which millions of jobs are sent out of the country. This objective has been met. Additionally, Obamacare will destroy the backbone of the American middle class, small businesses, as these owners cannot afford the Obamacare mandates of coverage and hope to stay in business. Deindustrializing America, through cap-and-trade policies, originating out of the bogus global warming policies, are the excuse to put these irrelevant controls in based on a fiction.

The establishment of the Green Police State is the key step in the domestication objectives of the super elite. The Green Police will prevent individual food independence by diving small farmers out of business through onerous EPA and FDA regulations. The lack of food independence will make the public vulnerable. In contrived tough times (i.e. following false flag events), the American people will lose their ability to resist the encroaching tyranny. The establishment of the Green Police State will condition America to accept everything that will follow.

3. A series of false flag attacks will bring about martial law and subsequent gun confiscation, the bulk of this task will be conducted by foreign troops. This development will prevent the American people from defending themselves. Much of the public has been so desensitized and dumbed down that they will never know what has hit them. America will resist, but not in enough numbers to make a difference.

4. The globalists will control all food production and artificial food shortages will be used to crowd people into densely populated urban centers for temporarily relief. Food shortages, acomplished through the GMO poisoning of our food supply resulting in sterilization of both farm animals and crops will greatly reduce the available food supply. This reduction in food supply will be utilized to control and then cull most of the population.

5. A New World Order based entirely on Agenda 21 principles will be firmly put into place. Through the science of transhumanism a hell on earth society will be created and dissidence will be impossible because of the invasive security and surveillance employed by the minions who serve the globalist agenda.

The remainder of this article will focus on stage two, the establishment of the Green Police State, in order to demonstrate how far along are the plans to subjugate humanity through the use of the green agenda which will bring in cap-and-trade and more Agenda 21 policies. .

The Green Agenda

I have repeated myself over and over again. The global elite simply love global warming/climate change because it gives them the justification to regulate every single aspect of our lives. Former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, and her global elite puppeteers, desperately want to control every aspect of your life in the name of saving the environment.

Three years ago, Nancy Pelosi met with Beijing officials to secure an international agreement which would impose tighter restrictions on economic activity in order to deal with the perceived global warming threat. Pelosi stated that “Every aspect of our lives must be subjected to an inventory.” In one statement, Pelosi adeptly showed China what a real communist looks like, sounds like and smells like. Beware, because a re-elected Obama , operating in an unchecked second term, answers to nobody and he is making the same noise as Pelosi did three years ago. Hold on to your wallets America because here comes the Green Police State.

The President has bragged that under his plan, a cap-and-trade plan, that utility rates will “necessarily skyrocket.” We are months away from witnessing the implementation of this brand of eco-terrorism.

Should America think that President Obama is kidding about our utility rates skyrocketing? Armed with executive orders, Obama has shown the propensity to bypass Congress and in spirit of any despot make his own laws. Further, his cap-and-trade plan favors big business as he allows larger corporations to buy their way of out the coming environmental restrictions.

Similar to Al “global warming” Gore who pays an average utility bill of $10,000 per month, yet, Gore keeps getting exposed for the inconvenient fraud that he is.

Pelosi has joined the “do as I say, not what I do” carbon taxing crowd. The Greens tell us that air travel is one of the most heinous environmental events. Then why, according to documents uncovered by Judicial Watch, is Pelosi treating the United States Air Force as her own personal airline while she spread her co2 across America. Additionally, Pelosi is so environmentally conscious that she contributes to overpopulation by just the sheer size of her family as according to the globalists, one of the prime causes of global warming is overpopulation and Pelosi lays claim to five children and seven grandchildren. President Obama’s top science advisor and long-time population-control advocate, John Holdren, would theoretically consider each little Pelosi as a substantial planetary burden. Yet, Pelosi’s eco-marxism continues on, unabated, while some local governments are presently buying heat sensors, and have plans to drive through your neighborhood, to determine if your house is leaking heat, and then fine you accordingly. Welcome to Pelosi’s duplicitous world of inventorying everything we own or do.

Has America ever seen a President “jet around” the country like Obama where he seems to be perpetually on vacation as “the President and Pelosi fiddle as the country burns.” What about global warming Mr. President?

According to our President, in order to save the planet, every aspect of our lives must be subjected to the Pelosi inventory. We could vote out the scoundrels, such as Pelosi. However, Americans had become an uneducated, ignorant, lazy electorate. I am growing more convinced that most of the people are simply going to save every last dime as we prepare to pay the globalists our hard-earned money for the right to heat our homes and drive our cars, while the super elite flaunt their duplicitous standards.

The Green Police State and the Impending Homelessness of Virginia Farver

Ft. Collins, Colorado resident Virginia Farver is becoming one of millions of poster children for the establishment of the Green Police State. As a guest on The Common Sense Show, Ms. Farver revealed that she could be homeless by this Friday, February 14, 2014.

At one time, Ft. Collins offered unhappy residents with an opt out program in which utility customers could pay a fee and opt of the installation of a smart meter on their home. Now, Ft. Collins officials have unilaterally decided to not honor the opt out program as those opposed to smart meters are being met with city officials and armed police at their doors, as Ft. Collins intimidates all of its residents into accepting smart meters through the use local swat teams. Smart meter swat teams are intimidating everyone who dare oppose the installation of a smart meter on their home. Ft. Collins city officials have even swat teamed the handicapped and even an 86-year-old lady.

Virginia Farver and her husband are not about to be intimidated and have stared down these monsters and has refused to give up their right to opt out of having a smart meter placed on their home. Virginia Farver has until this Friday, February 14, to allow the installation of a smart meter on their home or her power will be shut off. The winters in Northern Colorado can be extreme and this could become a life-threatening event. Virginia will be appearing on The Common Sense Show from 910PM to 930PM (CST) this Sunday evening (February 16) in order to discuss the latest developments.

Just like Virginia Farver, we are at war and the stakes have never been higher as humanity’s fate hangs in the balance. This marks the elite’s control over everything.

We live in time where our health care will soon be rationed, along with our gas and now we are looking at the serious curtailment of energy use while we struggle to exist in a world of double standards. However, I believe that nothing will be as heinous as the unveiling of the Green Police State.

If we permit the super elite to fully establish a Green Police State, the fulfillment of the rest of the globalist agenda designed to cull the population will become a downhill venture. This eco-subjugation cannot be allowed to be completed, our every lives depend on resisting.

Many are beginning to say that the only thing that can derail the impending train wreck that awaits millions of Americans, are 50 million armed Americans. It is sad that if it has come to that and I hope that America can find another way to preserve our country. I am hoping that calmer heads can prevail and we can find a nonviolent manner in which to impose the establishment of a Green Police State. My fear is that we will bypass the civil disobedience stage and proceed directly to eventual civil war.

So goes Virginia Farver, so goes the nation. This is our Saratoga, our Ft. McHenry, our Gettysburg and our Midway, all rolled into one. We are at the tipping point of subjugation. If we do not stop these Agenda 21 forces, we will be sewing humanity’s seeds of destruction. If we allow the Green Police State to take full control of American society WE WILL NEVER RECOVER AND THERE WILL NO TURNING BACK THE INEVITABLE DEPOPULATION AGENDA!

The Global Economic Crisis, The Great Depression of the XXI Century.

Global Research

The following text is an excerpt of the Preface of The Global Economic Crisis. The Great Depression of the XXI Century, Montreal, Global Research, 2010.

In all major regions of the world, the economic recession is deep-seated, resulting in mass unemployment, the collapse of state social programs and the impoverishment of millions of people. The economic crisis is accompanied by a worldwide process of militarization, a “war without borders” led by the United States of America and its NATO allies. The conduct of the Pentagon’s “long war” is intimately related to the restructuring of the global economy.

We are not dealing with a narrowly defined economic crisis or recession. The global financial architecture sustains strategic and national security objectives. In turn, the U.S.-NATO military agenda serves to endorse a powerful business elite which relentlessly overshadows and undermines the functions of civilian government.

This book takes the reader through the corridors of the Federal Reserve and the Council on Foreign Relations, behind closed doors at the Bank for International Settlements, into the plush corporate boardrooms on Wall Street where far-reaching financial transactions are routinely undertaken from computer terminals linked up to major stock markets, at the touch of a mouse button.

Each of the authors in this collection digs beneath the gilded surface to reveal a complex web of deceit and media distortion which serves to conceal the workings of the global economic system and its devastating impacts on people’s lives. Our analysis focuses on the role of powerful economic and political actors in an environment wrought by corruption, financial manipulation and fraud.

Despite the diversity of viewpoints and perspectives presented within this volume, all of the contributors ultimately come to the same conclusion: humanity is at the crossroads of the most serious economic and social crisis in modern history.

The meltdown of financial markets in 2008-2009 was the result of institutionalized fraud and financial manipulation. The “bank bailouts” were implemented on the instructions of Wall Street, leading to the largest transfer of money wealth in recorded history, while simultaneously creating an insurmountable public debt.

With the worldwide deterioration of living standards and plummeting consumer spending, the entire structure of international commodity trade is potentially in jeopardy. The payments system of money transactions is in disarray. Following the collapse of employment, the payment of wages is disrupted, which in turn triggers a downfall in expenditures on necessary consumer goods and services. This dramatic plunge in purchasing power backfires on the productive system, resulting in a string of layoffs, plant closures and bankruptcies. Exacerbated by the freeze on credit, the decline in consumer demand contributes to the demobilization of human and material resources.

This process of economic decline is cumulative. All categories of the labor force are affected. Payments of wages are no longer implemented, credit is disrupted and capital investments are at a standstill. Meanwhile, in Western countries, the “social safety net” inherited from the welfare state, which protects the unemployed during an economic downturn, is also in jeopardy.

The Myth of Economic Recovery

The existence of a “Great Depression” on the scale of the 1930s, while often acknowledged, is overshadowed by an unbending consensus: “The economy is on the road to recovery”.

While there is talk of an economic renewal, Wall Street commentators have persistently and intentionally overlooked the fact that the financial meltdown is not simply composed of one bubble – the housing real estate bubble – which has already burst. In fact, the crisis has many bubbles, all of which dwarf the housing bubble burst of 2008.

Although there is no fundamental disagreement among mainstream analysts on the occurrence of an economic recovery, there is heated debate as to when it will occur, whether in the next quarter, or in the third quarter of next year, etc. Already in early 2010, the “recovery” of the U.S. economy had been predicted and confirmed through a carefully worded barrage of media disinformation. Meanwhile, the social plight of increased unemployment in America has been scrupulously camouflaged. Economists view bankruptcy as a microeconomic phenomenon.

The media reports on bankruptcies, while revealing local-level realities affecting one or more factories, fail to provide an overall picture of what is happening at the national and international levels. When all these simultaneous plant closures in towns and cities across the land are added together, a very different picture emerges: entire sectors of a national economy are closing down.

Public opinion continues to be misled as to the causes and consequences of the economic crisis, not to mention the policy solutions. People are led to believe that the economy has a logic of its own which depends on the free interplay of market forces, and that powerful financial actors, who pull the strings in the corporate boardrooms, could not, under any circumstances, have willfully influenced the course of economic events.

The relentless and fraudulent appropriation of wealth is upheld as an integral part of “the American dream”, as a means to spreading the benefits of economic growth. As conveyed by Michael Hudson, the myth becomes entrenched that “without wealth at the top, there would be nothing to trickle down.” Such flawed logic of the business cycle overshadows an understanding of the structural and historical origins of the global economic crisis.

Financial Fraud

Media disinformation largely serves the interests of a handful of global banks and institutional speculators which use their command over financial and commodity markets to amass vast amounts of money wealth. The corridors of the state are controlled by the corporate establishment including the speculators. Meanwhile, the “bank bailouts”, presented to the public as a requisite for economic recovery, have facilitated and legitimized a further process of appropriation of wealth.

Vast amounts of money wealth are acquired through market manipulation. Often referred to as “deregulation”, the financial apparatus has developed sophisticated instruments of outright manipulation and deceit. With inside information and foreknowledge, major financial actors, using the instruments of speculative trade, have the ability to fiddle and rig market movements to their advantage, precipitate the collapse of a competitor and wreck havoc in the economies of developing countries. These tools of manipulation have become an integral part of the financial architecture; they are embedded in the system.

The Failure of Mainstream Economics

The economics profession, particularly in the universities, rarely addresses the actual “real world” functioning of markets. Theoretical constructs centered on mathematical models serve to represent an abstract, fictional world in which individuals are equal. There is no theoretical distinction between workers, consumers or corporations, all of which are referred to as “individual traders”. No single individual has the power or ability to influence the market, nor can there be any conflict between workers and capitalists within this abstract world.

By failing to examine the interplay of powerful economic actors in the “real life” economy, the processes of market rigging, financial manipulation and fraud are overlooked. The concentration and centralization of economic decision-making, the role of the financial elites, the economic thinks tanks, the corporate boardrooms: none of these issues are examined in the universities’ economics programs. The theoretical construct is dysfunctional; it cannot be used to provide an understanding of the economic crisis.

Economic science is an ideological construct which serves to camouflage and justify the New World Order. A set of dogmatic postulates serves to uphold free market capitalism by denying the existence of social inequality and the profit-driven nature of the system is denied. The role of powerful economic actors and how these actors are able to influence the workings of financial and commodity markets is not a matter of concern for the discipline’s theoreticians. The powers of market manipulation which serve to appropriate vast amounts of money wealth are rarely addressed. And when they are acknowledged, they are considered to belong to the realm of sociology or political science.

This means that the policy and institutional framework behind this global economic system, which has been shaped in the course of the last thirty years, is rarely analyzed by mainstream economists. It follows that economics as a discipline, with some exceptions, has not provided the analysis required to comprehend the economic crisis. In fact, its main free market postulates deny the existence of a crisis. The focus of neoclassical economics is on equilibrium, disequilibrium and “market correction” or “adjustment” through the market mechanism, as a means to putting the economy back “onto the path of self-sustained growth”.

Poverty and Social Inequality

The global political economy is a system that enriches the very few at the expense of the vast majority. The global economic crisis has contributed to widening social inequalities both within and between countries. Under global capitalism, mounting poverty is not the result of a scarcity or a lack of human and material resources. Quite the opposite holds true: the economic depression is marked by a process of disengagement of human resources and physical capital. People’s lives are destroyed. The economic crisis is deep-seated.

The structures of social inequality have, quite deliberately, been reinforced, leading not only to a generalized process of impoverishment but also to the demise of the middle and upper middle income groups.

Middle class consumerism, on which this unruly model of capitalist development is based, is also threatened. Bankruptcies have hit several of the most vibrant sectors of the consumer economy. The middle classes in the West have, for several decades, been subjected to the erosion of their material wealth. While the middle class exists in theory, it is a class built and sustained by household debt.

The wealthy rather than the middle class are rapidly becoming the consuming class, leading to the relentless growth of the luxury goods economy. Moreover, with the drying up of the middle class markets for manufactured goods, a central and decisive shift in the structure of economic growth has occurred. With the demise of the civilian economy, the development of America’s war economy, supported by a whopping near-trillion dollar defense budget, has reached new heights. As stock markets tumble and the recession unfolds, the advanced weapons industries, the military and national security contractors and the up-and-coming mercenary companies (among others) have experienced a thriving and booming growth of their various activities.

War and the Economic Crisis

War is inextricably linked to the impoverishment of people at home and around the world. Militarization and the economic crisis are intimately related. The provision of essential goods and services to meet basic human needs has been replaced by a profit-driven “killing machine” in support of America’s “Global War on Terror”. The poor are made to fight the poor. Yet war enriches the upper class, which controls industry, the military, oil and banking. In a war economy, death is good for business, poverty is good for society, and power is good for politics. Western nations, particularly the United States, spend hundreds of billions of dollars a year to murder innocent people in far-away impoverished nations, while the people at home suffer the disparities of poverty, class, gender and racial divides.

An outright “economic war” resulting in unemployment, poverty and disease is carried out through the free market. People’s lives are in a freefall and their purchasing power is destroyed. In a very real sense, the last twenty years of global “free market” economy have resulted, through poverty and social destitution, in the lives of millions of people.

Rather than addressing an impending social catastrophe, Western governments, which serve the interests of the economic elites, have installed a “Big Brother” police state, with a mandate to confront and repress all forms of opposition and social dissent.

The economic and social crisis has by no means reached its climax and entire countries, including Greece and Iceland, are at risk. One need only look at the escalation of the Middle East Central Asian war and the U.S.-NATO threats to China, Russia and Iran to witness how war and the economy are intimately related.

The Global Economic Crisis: The Great Depression of the XXI Century

Contents of this Book

The contributors to this book reveal the intricacies of global banking and its insidious relationship to the military industrial complex and the oil conglomerates. The book presents an inter- disciplinary and multi-faceted approach, while also conveying an understanding of the historical and institutional dimensions. The complex relations of the economic crisis to war, empire and worldwide poverty are highlighted. This crisis has a truly global reach and repercussions that reverberate throughout all nations, across all societies.

In Part I, the overall causes of the global economic crisis as well as the failures of mainstream economics are laid out. Michel Chossudovsky focuses on the history of financial deregulation and speculation. Tanya Cariina Hsu analyzes the role of the American Empire and its relationship to the economic crisis. John Bellamy Foster and Fred Magdoff undertake a comprehensive review of the political economy of the crisis, explaining the central role of monetary policy. James Petras and Claudia von Werlhof provide a detailed review and critique of neoliberalism, focusing on the economic, political and social repercussions of the “free market” reforms. Shamus Cooke examines the central role of debt, both public and private.

Part II, which includes chapters by Michel Chossudovsky and Peter Phillips, analyzes the rising tide of poverty and social inequality resulting from the Great Depression.

With contributions by Michel Chossudovsky, Peter Dale Scott, Michael Hudson, Bill Van Auken, Tom Burghardt and Andrew Gavin Marshall, Part III examines the relationship between the economic crisis, National Security, the U.S.-NATO led war and world government. In this context, as conveyed by Peter Dale Scott, the economic crisis creates social conditions which favor the instatement of martial law.

The focus in Part IV is on the global monetary system, its evolution and its changing role. Andrew Gavin Marshall examines the history of central banking as well as various initiatives to create regional and global currency systems. Ellen Brown focuses on the creation of a global central bank and global currency through the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). Richard C. Cook examines the debt-based monetary system as a system of control and provides a framework for democratizing the monetary system.

Part V focuses on the working of the Shadow Banking System, which triggered the 2008 meltdown of financial markets. The chapters by Mike Whitney and Ellen Brown describe in detail how Wall Street’s Ponzi scheme was used to manipulate the market and transfer billions of dollars into the pockets of the banksters.

Latin American and Caribbean nations gather in Cuba

CELAC condemns US embargo, seeks deeper ties between nations
By Jacqueline Villagomez

CELAC participants march in Cuba’s annual Torchlight march Jan. 28, commemorating national hero José Martí’s birthdate anniversary.

The second summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) took place in Havana, Cuba on January 28 and 29.

The organization was thought up at the Rio Summit, in Mexico in 2010 and founded in Caracas, Venezuela in 2011. It is comprised of 33 countries of the region, representing about 600 million people. The United States and Canada are excluded from this organization.

CELAC’s main goal is to become an alternative to the Organization of American States, which was set up in 1948 under the direction of the U.S. government to combat communist and popular struggles taking place in the region. After the 1959 Cuban Revolution’s triumph, the OAS, under U.S. prompting, excluded Cuba in 1962 for being “Marxist-Leninist.”

Wasting no time and continuing with its old lies, the United States government accused the Latin American and Caribbean nations of betraying “democratic principles” by supporting Cuba during this summit. Some 30 heads of states of the region and international leaders attended and not only condemned the blockade that the U.S. maintain against the Cuban people, but as Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua stated in his speech, they acknowledged the Cuban people and Fidel Castro for making the dream of CELAC possible and holding the Summit in socialist Cuba.

In the last decade, under the guidance of Cuba and Venezuela, the Latin American and Caribbean nations have being seeking deeper integration within the region, purposely excluding the U.S. and Canada because as President Evo Morales said, “Where  there are U.S. military bases that do not respect democracy, where there is a political  empire with his blackmailers, with its constraints, there is no development for that county, and especially there is no social peace”.

CELAC has two main purposes: to increase regional trade, independence, economic, social, and cultural development and cooperation, and solidarity among its members to allow them to defend their economies and natural and human resources; and, to end U.S. and Canadian imperialist interference in the region, so that the Latin American and Caribbean nations become the legitimate representatives of their interests and affairs and assert their sovereignty and self-determination.

Understanding that there can not be peace without social justice and that social and economic development cannot be achieved without peace, the second CELAC Summit adopted at its conclusion the determination to declare the region as a Zone of Peace in order to eradicate war, or the use of threat of force in the region and to negotiate in peaceful ways any disputes between the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. The declaration of Havana also highlights the commitment of the members of CELAC to fully respect the inalienable right of every state to choose its political, economic, social and cultural system.

They are Killing Little Baby Chickens

Inglorious Basturd (Just say to "no" to kosher chicken)

Inglorious Basturd (Just say “no” to Israeli chicken)

1.  Two towns in Rockland County, New York apply for economic development grants under a special New York State development program. One town’s grant has already been approved by the town’s council and is supported by the people who live  in  the town. In addition, Rockland County said it approves the project and even the State of New York has approved it.

The other town’s grant application has no approval on the local, county or state levels and is opposed not only by the residents of two adjacent towns, it isn’t even approved yet by the town itself.

Here is the wiki page for the first town. Give it a quick read.

Here is the wiki page for the second town. Give it a an even quicker read.

Which town do you think got the grant? You get one guess, unless  you are in the Shas party – Shas party members get three guesses. Here’s a little more about the story of The Chicken Plant of New Square. (Sounds like a nice title for a horror movie, doesn’t it? And wait till you see who some of the actors are. Steven King would be thrilled and he’d just have them play themselves in the movie.)

“I must question how our grant application was denied, when a grant proposal that does not have a single approval and is opposed by the county in which it resides and is controversial, is approved,” he wrote, while asking for an investigation.”

Those words are from Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Phillips. Haverstraw is a small New York town that applied for an economic development grant from the state of New York. The grant program is called Restore New York. The guidelines call for municipally sponsored projects to demolish or rehabilitate vacant, abandoned or condemned properties. The projects must also be architecturally consistent with nearby and adjacent properties.

Haverstraw’s application was to take such a property and build quality housing for citizens over 55 years of age. The proposal is strongly supported by local residents, especially skilled craftsman, who would be doing the building. The proposal was also approved by the town itself, by Rockland County where it is located and by the State of  New York.  Also, Haverstraw is going through very tough economic times, as Phillips make very clear in the article. Phillips has written to NY attorney general Andrew Cuomo complaining about the Restore program’s turning down his town’s application.

New Square’s application on the other hand was awared a 1.6 million dollar grant for the construction of a chicken plant five times the size of the old one. Since it would be sitting right next to two other Rockland County towns who strongly opposed having a smelly chicken plant next door, the mayor of New Square, Israel Spitzer, got support from other Islamofascists such as Senator Charles Shumer, (Likud, NY), Senator Eliot Engel (Likud, NY) and Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee (Likud, New Square), plus a moron known  as State Senator Thomas P. Morahan (Moron, NY) also supported the chicken plant.  And presto, New Square now has funding for a chicken plant that nobody wants.

2. Now we here at Mantiq al-Tayr have nothing against chickens, or even eating chickens, but we do notice a trend toward the Israelization of the chicken industry. Note here the attack on this probably not Zionist-controlled chicken plant owned by Hy-Line a US founded company. Cruelty to animals is a terrible thing and is condemned by all of us at Mantiq al-Tayr. But it sure is interesting that just as Nathan Runkle’s Mercy for Animals organization is criticizing Hy-Line, the United States is working with Israel to increase Israeli poultry exports to the United States.  The bankruptcy of Agriprocessors – owned by Islamofascists, might even have helped pave the way for more Israeli imports. Sure would be convenient if Hy-Line lost market share at the same time. A search on Nathan Runkle and Agriprocessors on Google and Ixquick was interesting.

Then there is also Empire Kosher.

3. We have a great confession to make here at Mantiq al-Tayr.  Yes, the rumors you’ve been hearing are true. “Say it ain’t so, Mantiq” just won’t work. Yes, Mantiq and all the tuyuur here at Mantiq al-Tayr are, yes indeed we are ——– hummus sexuals.  We love hummus.

There is a great Arabic expression طلعت من الحفلة من غير حمص which means literally “I left the party without any hummus” which basically means that “I got nothing out of it.” Well, we need to change that expression to طلعت من البقالة من غير حمص “I left the grocery store without any hummus” because the hummus industry is about as zionized as the poultry industry is.

The biggest hummus section is by the company known as Sabra which is the Hebrew word for a Jew born in Israel.  (No it is not short for Sabra and Shatila, though maybe it ought to be.) Sabra was founded in 1986 by Yehuda Pearl, an Islamofascist. Later he sold the company to Strauss Elite (which now owns the company in partnership with Pepsi) and which claims to be the second largest food and beverage company in Israel.  You’ll find the kosher symbols prominently displayed on the product. To learn about kosher symbols, you can go here. You can also go here.

Then there is the Tribe variety. You know, Arabs have Tribes and stuff, so what a great name. (It used to be called Tribe of Two Sheikhs.)

Let me digress for a  minute.

Whenever I see food that is Arabic marked as Mediterranean, or Arabic-food restaurants calling themselves Mediterranean, I figure one of two things –  the stuff or the store is Arabic owned but they don’t want to say so because Arabs own hollywood, the banks, the media, the poultry industry and have Congress not just in their back pocked but right up their ass, or because the stuff is Israeli and they want to conceal that fact for the very same reasons. (and yes, I know that people in Greece and other non-Arabic lands make hummus.)

Back to the Tribe. Well, no, the Tribe is actually a different tribe as is pretty clear from their website and their food is, of course, kosher.

The last company with hummus on the shelf is Cedars, which as far as we can tell is owned by an an American of possible Arab ancestry and by another American of probably Greek ancestry. Yes it’s kosher, most things in your local grocery store bear at least one kosher certification, but at least it doesn’t seem related to Israel.

Nonetheless, I guess it’s back to just making hummus at home. It tastes better anyway. Please support the Israeli boycott by posting recipies in the comements section.  Also, click on the picture below for a great hummus recipe from a blog I’ve just discovered.

PCHR and IDMC Issue Report on Zionist Violations in Access Restricted Areas

On 01 February 2014, the report “Under Fire” issued by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) and the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) was launched in London. The report addresses the Israeli violations in Access Restricted Areas (ARA) in the Gaza Strip. It highlights the suffering experienced by civilians, farmers and fishermen due to restrictions imposed on the freedom of movement in those areas, the frequent targeting of civilians with live ammunition, house demolitions and restrictions imposed on fishing areas. The report was launched in London and lawyer Raji Sourani, Director of PCHR, participated in the event via Skype.

The report reveals the negative impacts of the imposition of the ARA in land and sea along the border area. The report highlights the farmers inability to access their lands, totalling 62.6km2, i.e. 35% of the agricultural lands in the Gaza Strip or 17% of the whole area of the Gaza Strip. The report also addresses the Israeli denial of the right to fish in 85% of the fishing area according to Oslo Accords.

Statistics and data are provided on the losses in lives and property due to the Israeli practices in that area. The report also tackles the financial and economic loss that afflicts civilians, farmers and fishermen and which is further exacerbated by the closure. The report indicates that the cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas in 2012 did not help in altering the situation in ARA.

The report draws attention to the fact that Israeli forces use live ammunition when targeting civilians in the ARA without taking into consideration the principles of distinction and proportionality, which is considered a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention. The report emphasizes that Israel does not respect the international standards related to the use of force and in many instances, directly resort to the use of lethal force.

Finally, the report brings to light that many relief foundations fail to understand the nature of the suffering of the ARA residents. The relief foundations’ main focus is on finding shelter for residents whose houses have been demolished without paying attention to their real loss (homes and livelihood) or addressing the underlying cause of this; the ARA policy imposed by the Israeli authorities.

The report concludes with a number of recommendations addressed to Israel, the Palestinian Authority and the international community, as follows:

1- Lift the closure imposed on the Gaza Strip as it is considered a collective punishment against Palestinian civilians;

2- Respect international humanitarian law and do not use lethal force against Palestinian civilians;

3- Immediately stop targeting farmers and fishermen in the ARA;

4- Allow the ARA residents to go back to their property immediately and remove all obstacles to achieve that;

5- Cease the ARA imposed on the sea and allow fishing according to the Oslo Accords;

6- Allow exportation and importation from and to the Palestinian territories;

7- Hold Israeli officials to account for violations of  international law;

8- Direct international support for the ARA; and

9- Oblige Israel to comply with international law.

Why I$raHell Fears the Boycott

JERUSALEM — IF Secretary of State John Kerry’s attempts to revive talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority fail because of Israel’s continuing construction of illegal settlements, the Israeli government is likely to face an international boycott “on steroids,” as Mr. Kerry warned last August.
These days, Israel seems as terrified by the “exponential” growth of the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (or B.D.S.) movement as it is by Iran’s rising clout in the region. Last June, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu effectively declared B.D.S. a strategic threat. Calling it the “delegitimization” movement, he assigned the overall responsibility for fighting it to his Strategic Affairs Ministry. But B.D.S. doesn’t pose an existential threat to Israel; it poses a serious challenge to Israel’s system of oppression of the Palestinian people, which is the root cause of its growing worldwide isolation.
The Israeli government’s view of B.D.S. as a strategic threat reveals its heightened anxiety at the movement’s recent spread into the mainstream. It also reflects the failure of the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s well-endowed “Brand Israel” campaign, which reduces B.D.S. to an image problem and employs culture as a propaganda tool, sending well-known Israeli figures around the world to show Israel’s prettier face.
Begun in 2005 by the largest trade union federations and organizations in Palestinian society, B.D.S. calls for ending Israel’s 1967 occupation, “recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality,” and the right of Palestinian refugees to return to the homes and lands from which they were forcibly displaced and dispossessed in 1948.
Why should Israel, a nuclear power with a strong economy, feel so vulnerable to a nonviolent human rights movement?
Israel is deeply apprehensive about the increasing number of American Jews who vocally oppose its policies — especially those who are joining or leading B.D.S. campaigns. It also perceives as a profound threat the rising dissent among prominent Jewish figures who reject its tendency to speak on their behalf, challenge its claim to be the “national home” of all Jews, or raise the inherent conflict between its ethno-religious self-definition and its claim to democracy. What I. F. Stone prophetically wrote about Israel back in 1967, that it was “creating a kind of moral schizophrenia in world Jewry” because of its “racial and exclusionist” ideal, is no longer beyond the pale.
Israel is also threatened by the effectiveness of the nonviolent strategies used by the B.D.S. movement, including its Israeli component, and by the negative impact they have had on Israel’s standing in world public opinion. As one Israeli military commander said in the context of suppressing Palestinian popular resistance to the occupation, “We don’t do Gandhi very well.”
The landslide vote by the American Studies Association in December to endorse an academic boycott of Israel, coming on the heels of a similar decision by the Association for Asian-American Studies, among others, as well as divestment votes by several university student councils, proves that B.D.S. is no longer a taboo in the United States.
The movement’s economic impact is also becoming evident. The recent decision by the $200 billion Dutch pension fund PGGM to divest from the five largest Israeli banks because of their involvement in occupied Palestinian territory has sent shock waves through the Israeli establishment.
To underscore the “existential” danger that B.D.S. poses, Israel and its lobby groups often invoke the smear of anti-Semitism, despite the unequivocal, consistent position of the movement against all forms of racism, including anti-Semitism. This unfounded allegation is intended to intimidate into silence those who criticize Israel and to conflate such criticism with anti-Jewish racism.
Arguing that boycotting Israel is intrinsically anti-Semitic is not only false, but it also presumes that Israel and “the Jews” are one and the same. This is as absurd and bigoted as claiming that a boycott of a self-defined Islamic state like Saudi Arabia, say, because of its horrific human rights record, would of necessity be Islamophobic.
The B.D.S. movement’s call for full equality in law and policies for the Palestinian citizens of Israel is particularly troubling for Israel because it raises questions about its self-definition as an exclusionary Jewish state. Israel considers any challenge to what even the Department of State has criticized as its system of “institutional, legal and societal discrimination” against its Palestinian citizens as an “existential threat,” partially because of the apartheid image that this challenge evokes.
Tellingly, the Supreme Court recently rejected an attempt by Israeli liberals to have their nationality or ethnicity listed simply as “Israeli” in the national population registry (which has categories like Jew, Arab, Druse, etc.). The court found that doing so would be a serious threat to Israel’s founding identity as a Jewish state for the Jewish people.
Israel remains the only country on earth that does not recognize its own nationality, as that would theoretically avail equal rights to all its citizens, undermining its “ethnocratic” identity. The claim that B.D.S., a nonviolent movement anchored in universal principles of human rights, aims to “destroy” Israel must be understood in this context.
Would justice and equal rights for all really destroy Israel? Did equality destroy the American South? Or South Africa? Certainly, it destroyed the discriminatory racial order that had prevailed in both places, but it did not destroy the people or the country.
Likewise, only Israel’s unjust order is threatened by boycotts, divestment and sanctions.
A Palestinian human rights activist and the author of “Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions: The Global Struggle for Palestinian Rights.”
