‘Bob Crow died despising what Labour Party had become’

Bob Crow (1961-2014) was General Secretary of Britain’s Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (AFP Photo / Ben Stansall).

In an age when there are few successful heroes willing to fight against neoliberalism, Britain’s Bob Crow stood apart.

He made the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers the fastest growing union in the UK, but when he gave his last long form interview to me (for Going Underground on RT), it was clear that Crow’s practical skills were rooted in the deepest of theoretical ideas about how a society should function in the best interests of all.

Crow and his thousands of comrades had just used strike action to win the right to negotiate over pay and conditions on London’s Underground network and he was in bullish mood. He told us how, at last, issues could be ironed out in a rational way instead of as part of a direct class war with the government and management. Ironically, we asked Crow to record some eulogies for politicians he respected who were unwell. Who would have thought that he would die so suddenly at the age of 52 of a reported heart attack?

Like most workers’ leaders, he was demonized by the tightly-controlled right wing press in Britain. Every time he fought for his members, journalists and the commentariat volunteered to defame him by almost any means necessary. That is a testament to just how dangerous the establishment saw Crow, just as they saw Arthur Scargill a generation ago.

Everything the establishment had in its power was thrown at Scargill, to sabotage his attempt at preserving the most economic coal in Europe. Today, Britain imports coal mined by children. With Crow, attention in the media centered on the fact that he lived in a council house despite his earnings. What those who call themselves journalists in Britain didn’t understand was that Crow favored public over private, society over atomized individuals. Only a council house could be acceptable. Then they attacked his salary, even though it was his thousands of members who voted for him to earn in a year what a CEO of a nationalized bank takes home in a month. Most recently, they had paparazzi photograph him on holiday in Brazil – as if taking a holiday before preparing for battle wasn’t a wise move.

Since the 1984 Miners’ Strike, Britain’s politicians have become more subservient to the 1 percent management elite and that made Crow all the more unique as a voice against prevailing ideas about the organization of society. Our interview with Crow was conducted at the RMT’s headquarters in London, in the center of a toroid table around which the General Strike of 1926 was voted on and around which the Labour Party was founded. He died despising what the Labour Party had become – one deeply committed to the Thatcher Revolution of the 1980s. The Labour Party he once fought for now differs from the Tories by a few percentage points of GDP when it comes to budget ambitions. More interesting to Crow was the broad sweep of worker struggles. RMT HQ is adorned not just by an alarming amount of Millwall Football memorabilia, it also commemorates workers who died fighting fascism in Spain and those fighting the US-backed coup against Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.

The RMT, under Bob Crow, severed links with the British Labour party soon after it helped launch the catastrophic war on Iraq. The Union had had ties with Labour for over a century. Crow was preparing to stand as a candidate for a new party that would fight the macro-level neoliberalism of the EU. He would have been giving speeches in the coming weeks about the US-backed coup d’état in Ukraine.

Crow believed in a great narrative of global history and supported anti-imperialist movements around the world. He sought a vanguard and said he was inspired by the spirit of the Palestinian people who continue to fight despite all odds. He said he wanted a wholesale revolution in Britain akin to the revolution in Cuba.

One of Crow’s inspirations, Fidel Castro still survives amidst Cuba’s on-going war against the biggest military power on earth and Bob Crow is no more. But I think it’s a pretty good bet that Crow will have inspired a new generation who will strive harder for a society that is truly egalitarian, in effect a grander class struggle than just one train or shipping strike.

Britain is in the throes of the greatest economic crisis since the 1930s and unlike the 1 percent so memorably evoked by F Scott Fitzgerald in The Great Gatsby, those inspired by Bob Crow will beat on, boats against the current, borne forward ceaselessly into the future.

I$raHell is losing its grip on evangelical Christians

Evangelical Christians praying for Jerusalem, in Jerusalem, on Jan. 11, 2012.

Younger generation open to Palestinian side of conflict.

The Forward

Support for Israel is weakening among evangelical Christians, prompting a new struggle for the hearts and minds of younger members of America’s largest pro-Israel demographic group.

While hard numbers are not available, evangelical leaders on both sides of the divide on Israel agree that members of the millennial generation do not share their parents’ passion for the Jewish state; many are seeking some form of evenhandedness when approaching the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“What is happening is that the hard line of Christian Zionists was not successfully passed forward to the next generation, because it was based on theological themes that are now being questioned by younger evangelicals,” said David Gushee, professor of Christian ethics and director of the Center for Theology and Public Life at Mercer University in Atlanta.

The grip of Christian Zionists over young evangelicals has been loosening for several years, according to observers within the community. But in recent weeks, the leading evangelical pro-Israel organization, Christians United for Israel, has set off alarm bells in articles and interviews decrying the inroads made by pro-Palestinian activists into the evangelical community. CUFI’s leaders are calling for a new strategy to block them.

“The only way of solving a problem is when people know about it,” said, CUFI’s executive director, David Brog, who has been leading the effort to win back millennial evangelicals. “This is the best way to rally our troops.”

Brog penned a lengthy article, published in the spring edition of Middle East Quarterly, in which he detailed what he views as a growing phenomenon and the reasons behind it. Titled “The End of Evangelical Support for Israel?” the article laments that “questioning unqualified Christian support for the Jewish state is fast becoming a key way for millennials to demonstrate Christian compassion and bona fides.” Brog argues that younger evangelicals are now “in play” and their support for Israel can no longer be taken for granted.

This conclusion is based primarily on gut feelings and anecdotal data. In June 2011, the Pew Research Center conducted a survey among evangelical leaders convened in Cape Town, South Africa, for the third Lausanne Congress of World Evangelization. The findings indicated lower support for Israel than previously believed. A majority of American evangelical leaders (49%) expressed neutrality when asked if they sympathize more with Israelis or with Palestinians. Thirty percent expressed support for Israelis, 13% for the Palestinians.

The survey polled only leaders who participated in this international conference and did not offer insight into the views of rank-and-file evangelicals. But it highlighted the fact that only a minority within the evangelical leadership today hold strong pro-Israel views when it comes to Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and attendant conflict with the Palestinians.

Still, Christian Zionism is by far the largest organized voice on Middle East issues among evangelicals. CUFI, led by the Rev. John Hagee, founder of Cornerstone Church, in San Antonio, has 1.6 million registered supporters and a staff of 25 full-time employees. With an operating budget of more than $7 million, CUFI organizes dozens of pro-Israel events throughout the country and an annual Washington conference that brings together evangelical activists and politicians.

CUFI’s leaders are now trying to mobilize funders and supporters to confront the shift among younger members of their community. The challenge they face is made up of individuals, campus activists and professors, small organizations and even documentary films that depict Israel as encroaching on Christian freedom of faith in the Holy Land.

On university campuses, pro-Palestinian Christians have seen some success in the face of CUFI’s more established 120-chapter campus operation. Activists in Illinois’s Wheaton College, a leading Christian school, protested a planned CUFI event on campus in 2009; in Tulsa, Okla., Oral Roberts University has appointed a harsh critic of Israel to its board of trustees, and at Bethel University, in Minnesota, President Jay Barnes visited Israel and the Palestinian territories on a trip that changed participants’ views on the conflict. Barnes’s wife, Barbara Barnes, published a poem after the trip, in which she wrote: “Apartheid has become a way of life. I believe God mourns.”

American evangelicals sympathetic to the Palestinians are also bringing co-religionists to Israel and the West Bank for tours and conferences. This week, Bethlehem Bible College and the Bethlehem-based Holy Land Trust are hosting their third “Christ at the Checkpoint” conference. Speakers at the gathering, which presents a Palestinian perspective on Israel’s occupation of the West Bank for Christians, include Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, the Gaza physician who worked closely with both Arabs and Israeli Jews until his three daughters were killed in their home by Israeli tank fire during the 2008 Gaza military campaign; William Wilson, the president of Oral Roberts University.; and Gary Burge, a theology professor at Wheaton College and author of the book, “Whose Promise? What Christians Are Not Being Told About Israel and the Palestinians.”

The conference’s 12-point “manifesto” strongly condemns “all forms of violence” and warns against the “stereotyping of all faith forms that betray God’s commandment to love our neighbors and enemies.” It also rejects “any exclusive claim to the land of the Bible in the name of God” and states that “racial ethnicity alone does not guarantee the benefits of the Abrahamic Covenant.”

For some on Christian college campuses, the appeal of pro-Palestinian views may be part of a general trend among young evangelicals to question the conservative ways of their parents’ generation. Some students are pursuing a theological understanding of their religion that is more progressive on social issues. Polls conducted in recent years indicate that young white evangelicals are less conservative on issues of same-sex marriage, abortion and contraception. They are also less aligned with the Republican Party. This same trend of political diversification may be taking place on international issues.

CUFI’s concern, as voiced by Brog in his article, is about the younger generation of evangelical leaders; unlike such figures as Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, they are not vocal about the issue of Israel. He describes the new generation of evangelical opinion makers as a “largely well-coiffed and fashionably dressed bunch dedicated to marketing Christianity to a skeptical generation by making it cool, compassionate, and less overtly political.”

One of the organizations gaining the most attention on this issue is the Telos Group, a Washington-based not-for-profit set up five years ago that describes itself as “pro-Israeli, pro-Palestinian, pro-American, and pro-peace.” In an interview on Glenn Beck’s “TheBlaze TV,” Brog singled out Telos, saying: “This is not your parents’ anti-Israel group. These guys are savvy, these guys are smart.”

Telos, which focuses a significant part of its work on faith communities, has to date taken 43 groups on tours of Israel and the Palestinian territories. President and co-founder Gregory Khalil said the group intentionally engages with a variety of Israelis and Palestinians on their trips. “I actually think David Brog could learn a lot about Israel if he would join one of our trips,” Khalil said, arguing that Brog mischaracterized the work of Telos.

But while the budding debate in the evangelical world over Israel is real, its proportions may be overstated. “We’re a tiny organization,” Khalil said of his group, which has only two staff members. Other publications and groups cited by CUFI as pro-Palestinian are also much smaller than CUFI’s own pro-Israel operation.

CUFI is not waiting for them to grow larger. In January, at a Jewish fundraising event,, the group presented its plan to take two groups a year of young evangelical opinion leaders to Israel. “We need to use the same tool to fight back,” CUFI declared in its pitch for Jewish donor support. The group is also launching speaking tours on campuses, and intends to invest in videos and social media activity that will monitor Christian influencers and “confront them when they cross the line.”

The glaring precedent that pro-Israel evangelicals cite to justify their approach is the path taken by the mainline Protestant churches. In the past, many were sympathetic to Israel, or at worst neutral. But some have since become a stronghold of pro-Palestinian views in the American Christian world. A few groups, such as the Presbyterians, have been leading the way in calls for divestment and boycott against Israel.

But Gushee argued that evangelicals are unlikely to take this path. The mainline Protestant churches today may be aggressively anti-Israel, he said, but the shift among evangelicals “is not from pro-Israel to anti-Israel, but from pro-Israel to a more balanced approach.”

“If there is a country that has committed unspeakable atrocities in the world, it is the United States of America. They don’t care for human beings.” –Nelson Mandela, Iraq Speech 2003

“Throughout the world, on any given day, a man, woman, or child is likely to be displaced, tortured, killed, or disappeared’, at the hands of governments or armed political groups. More often than not, the United States shares the blame.” –, 1996

“Hypocrisy, double standards, and “but nots” are the price of universalist pretensions. Democracy is promoted, but not if it brings Islamic fundamentalists to power; on proliferation is preached for Iran and Iraq but not for Israel….Double standards in practice are the unavoidable price of universal standards of principle” –Professor , “Clash of Civilization and the Remaking of the World Order”, (p. 184)

The American-Israeli Ukrainian Crisis

Does anyone in the U.S. government or media realize how extremely hypocritical for the U.S. to demand Russia respect the sovereignty, integrity, human rights, and “self determination” of the Ukrainian people?

Long before it even became a nation Americans, and later America, have never given a damn about any nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence, or people’s right to “self determination”. If a nation has some economic or strategic benefit to the U.S. you’ll become a victim of the freedom spreading U.S. military.

Do you ever notice that whenever the U.S. faintly pushes for peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians that a Jewish manufactured crisis occurs somewhere in the world to distract the U.S. and the world from dealing with Israel’s brutal military occupation of Palestinian territories and its killing siege of Gaza for 7 years? I don’t know about you but there’s something Jewishly rotten in the Ukraine Crisis.

Victoria Nuland, Jewish, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Europe. Three Jewish Neocons Plotted to Install a Jew as Prime Minister of the Ukraine. They succeeded. Victoria Nuland, Jewish, is Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, plotted with US Ambassador to the Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, Jewish, and working with a third Jew, Jeffrey Feltman, Under Secretary General of the United Nations, to install a fourth Jew, Arseniy Yatseniuk, as Prime Minister of Ukraine weeks before the departure of Ukraine’s President. They’re Free to Run the World and no one dares to stop them.

First the taped conversation that belies the lie that the uprising in the Ukraine was a populist one and not instigated by the CIA and the Mossad. Second, notice how callously and casually U.S. officials discuss manipulating events and choosing the appropriate subservient political leaders in foreign countries. Weeks before the toppling of Ukraine’s elected government and the invasion by Russia of east Ukraine, a conversation between 2 Jews was taped that dealt with the Ukraine uprising, Russia, and the E.U. The 2 Jews (both Neocons) were Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, Victoria Nuland, and the U.S. Ambassador to the Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt. Nuland, after disparaging the E.U. with the remark “F..K the E.U.” went on to tell the Ambassador that out of the potential candidates for Prime Minister, she says: “I think Yats (Arseniy Yatseniuk) is the guy who’s got the economic experience.”

I don’t think this is a Zionist Mossad Neocon conspiracy. It’s always just pure coincidences.

NO nation, not Russia, the U.S., or Israel, have any right to use their military might as a tool of foreign poicy to invade, bomb, or occupy any other nation or peoples. Russia is wrong to invade the Ukraine under the guise of protecting the ethnic Russians as Reagan was wrong to invade Grenada to protect American medical students.

Russia claims its protecting it’s national security and interests given that if the Ukraine joins the western camp NATO will be at its doorstep and pose a powerful military threat to Russia. Recall President Kennedy in 1963, much like Russia today, was willing to risk a nuclear war with the Soviet Union over its deployment of missiles in Cuba that posed a military threat to the United States.

After his meeting with the leader of the world’s largest violator of International and Humanitarian Laws, 90 U.N. Security Council Resolutions, the Fourth Geneva Convention, and so much more – — President Obama had the hypocritical  to denounce Russia for invading its neighbor and violating international law.

President Obama said:

“Prime Minister Netanyahu seems to have a different set of lawyers making a different set of interpretations, but I don’t think that’s fooling anybody….I think everybody recognizes that, although Israel has legitimate interests in what happens in a neighboring state, that does not give it the right to use force as a means of exerting influence inside of that state.” OOPS, sorry.

He was referring of course to President Putin and Russia.

Netanyahu came to the U.S. to meet with Obama and Congressman as well as attend AIPAC’s Annual Conference where White House officials and Congressmen go to speak pledge their undying allegiance to Israel. It is a historical miracle that a small nation with a small Jewish Zionist population can truly control America’s foreign policy, push it to fights its wars, and deplete its treasury despite enormous budget cuts to domestic programs such as feeding America’s poor children.

Please watch this embarrassing and disgusting video of President Obama’s speech at AIPAC in 2011 where he in effect told the audience I’m not just the U.S. President but consider me a Jewish Zionist President for Israel. He pathetically groveled and proudly proclaimed all the things he did for Israel given that 2011 was a Presidential election year and he desperately need Jewish money and political/media support.

Video link:

Some of the things he proudly said to showcase his undying, unshakeable bond with Israel. This is a man who agreed to cut $800 Million from the Food Stamp program to feed hungry American families and children.

  • Increased financial aid to Israel despite budget cuts. He agreed to give Israel an additional$40 BILLION in military aid, over Bush’s already $30 Billion..
  • Boycotted the Durban Conference Against  which highlights Israel’s Racist/ policies against the Palestinians.
  • Vetoed the  that said Israel committed  and  in its murderous attack on Gaza 2008-2009.
  • Vetoed a U.N. Security Council Resolution that called Israel’s  “illegal”. The vote in the council was 14 – 1, with the one being the U.S. All previous administrations have called them “illegal”.

Obama is acting like every previous President who would rather starve American children than cut one dollar from Israel’s aid.

U.S. Presidents would rather send American soldiers to die for Israel than risk Jewish wrath.

Please Watch this important Video done by the excellent journalist and documentarian, , who exposes Jewish Power in the U.S. in general and the current role they’re playing in Syria’s civil war and a future war with Iran.

Every American must watch the Video below of General Wesley Clark speaking in 2007 about the lack of justification to attack Iraq, the Pentagon Neocon plan to attack 7 other Arab and Muslim nations in five years, and most importantly please pay close attention to his remarks about a “group” of people who have carried out what he calls a “Policy Coup” in this country hijacking the Government’s policies to fulfill their agenda.

Without directly blaming the Jewish Neocons he does mention the , a Jewish Neocon outfit, as well as a few of their names. He speaks of  in 1991 saying we need to topple Saddam Hussein. Please visit his site at

Has the United States Ever Violated International Law?

The question should be when has it not violated International and Humanitarian Laws since their adoption. The nation that has invaded, occupied, bombed (including using Atomic Bombs and Banned Weapons), assassinated world leaders, propped murderous dictators, supported terrorist and death squads, overthrew governments at will, blocked shipping lanes, placed sanctioned more countries than anyone else.

After Israel, the U.S. has violated the U.N. Charter, International and Humanitarian Laws, killed more civilians, and used more illegal banned weapons on civilians than any other nation.

Here are some pertinent facts about America’s use of its military as the primary tool of its foreign policy. Shoot first, then ask questions later.

1.) The U.S. has a larger Defense Budget than the next 25 nations combined.

2.) According to SIPRI Yearbook 2013; (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute) U.S. Military Expenditure (2012): $682 Billion (39% of World’s share) —Russia’s Military Expenditure (2012): $90.7 Billion (5.2% of World’s share)

3.) U.S. has more than 1,000 Military Bases Around the World.

From SIPRI Yearbook 2013: Defense Budgets

“The Worldwide control of humanity’s economic, social and political activities is under the helm of US corporate and military power. Underlying this process are various schemes of direct and indirect military intervention. These US sponsored strategies ultimately consist in a process of global subordination”
–Professor Jules Dufour, “The Worldwide Network of US Military Bases“, Global Research, first published July 1, 2007

4.) Several Presidential Doctrines beginning with the Monroe Doctrine that established the right of the U.S. to intervene around the world.

Which Countries has the U.S. recently invaded, occupied, bombed and still bombing today, or overthrew its democratically elected government?

Serbia, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, and Egypt.

Historically the U.S. has bombed these 21 countries, many more than once, since World War II. It does not include other nations like Yemen and Somalia.

The many countries the U.S. has bombed since WWII and the millions who've died solely for Economic reasons.

The many countries the U.S. has bombed since WWII and the millions who’ve died solely for Economic reasons.

In Egypt: Egyptians launched mass protests three years ago to topple the American puppet dictator, Hosni Mubarak, as part of the Arab Spring.

Mubarak resigned and for the first time in Egypt’s history a democratic election was held giving the  candidate Mohamed Mursi the Presidency and an overwhelming majority in the Parliament.

Naturally that was not acceptable to the U.S., Israel, and Arab regional governments thus they began to plot the overthrow of Mursi’s government and reinstalling a subservient puppet military regime once again.

After the military coup the U.S. announced its full support for the military  but in the Ukraine –hypocrisy, hypocrisy — it condemned Russia for not respecting Ukraine’s non-elected government.

Here is Secretary of State  in Kiev; “We hope Russia will respect the election that you have.”

In IRAN: Brief History of U.S. Aggression Against Iran.

1.) 1953: U.S., U.K. overthrew a democratically elected Prime Minister who threatened their monopoly of Iran’s oil industry.

2.) U.S. pushed and supported Saddam Hussein to attack Iran, a war that lasted from 1980-1988 and cost over one million dead.

3.) 1987 U.S. bombed 2 Iranian Oil Platforms and took out 6 Iranian warships.

4.) July 3, 1988 the U.S. Naval Cruiser, USS Vincennes launched a missile to blow up an Iranian civilian airline flight, Iran Air Flight 655, that killed all 290 passengers and crew, including 66 children. It was downed while on Iranian territory. The flight path was from Tehran to Dubai.

Notice the excitement of the crew at bringing down the civilian plane. The Captain and some Crew were awarded medals.

Video link:

5.) 2010 the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran’s Nuclear Facilities with the Stuxnet Virus that shut down the facilities for a long time.

6.) “Obama to pressure Israel to stop assassinating Iranian Nuclear Scientists”. Its beyond belief that Israel’s illegal assassination of Irananian scientists does not conjure any condemnation by the U.N. or anyone else but is simply accepted as a fait accompli, akin to all illegal acts Israel does. In fact, the reverse happens. Israel is praised for its “self defense”. What would happen if Iran was killing Israeli scientists?

7.) AT the White House and at the AIPAC Annual Conference discussions with Netanyah and Jewish Americans are being held on how and when to launch another Pre-emptive war on another Muslim nation.

The discussion is frank and public without the slightest concern that even discussing an aggressive attack on another nation violates the U.N. Charter and International Law that the U.S. and Israel are signatories to.

The U.S. is angry that a superpower illegally invaded and occupies a smaller weaker nation.

Russia Invades Ukraine: BAD

U.S. Travels 6,192 Miles to Invade Iraq: GOOD

According to the Hypocritical Criteria for Invasions and :

BAD: Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine, a border nation out of a perceived western encroachment and threat to its security and interests.

GOOD: U.S. illegally invades and bombs Iraq based on incredible manufactured government.

GOOD: Media lies.

EXCELLENT: Israel – the most hated, despised, and nauseating nation on earth, an evil enemy of all of humanity (especially Christians), a nation that thirsts for conflicts and blood, and truly runs the West’s foreign policy.

According to the bought and paid for White House and Congress, Israel is a model of democracy, respects human rights, and abides by International Law unlike the Arabs/Muslims.

Israel is a criminal nation forcefully imposed and implanted on the Arab and Muslim world. Yet its evil existence impacts the world’s foreign policy given its direct ownership and control of the most powerful nation on earth, the U.S.A.

With British and American backing European Jews STOLE and ethnically cleansed Palestine of its native inhabitants who’ve lived there for thousands of years as an outcome of a political movement, , which had nothing to do with Judaism or the fulfilment of Biblical prophecy as so many ignorant gullible Christian  believe. In fact almost all the early Zionist leaders were atheists, socialists, communists, Buddhists, and some were Christians converting out of a need for survival in Christian Europe.

The Theft of Palestine

The  of the followers of Jesus Christ and Muhammad; (Peace be upon them both).

The shrinking map of Palestine
The shrinking map of Palestine

Israel may escape justice in the International Criminal Court, BUT IT WILL NOT ESCAPE GOD’S ULTIMATE JUSTICE.

It’s obviously OK for the U.S., Europe, and Israel (the civilized democratic folks) to attack, bomb, commit war crimes, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, arrest anyone for any reason, throw them in prison without a charge or trial, send teens and elderly men to , illegally  prisoners at Abu Ghraib, or “rendition” them back to their native countries to die or be tortured.

This Ukrainian crisis will soon be resolved peacefully and satisfactorily. It must, because war is not an option for anyone. Europe depends on Russia for about a quarter of its oil and gas needs and can ill afford at a time of a financial crisis to jeopardize that imort. The U.S. also can ill afford another war neither economically nor militarily, but given that 2014 is a Congressional midterm election idiotic politicians will bluster and huff and puff showing their toughness with Russia, although none will send their children to a Second Crimean War 160 years after the first one.

The Cold War will never be over, neither with Russia nor with the upcoming one with China.

It will always raise its ugly head when the opportunity avails itself. Now and in the future Historians will ask, “who the hell gave America the right to be the world’s policemen intervene in the fate and future of other nations and peoples deciding who lives and who dies? Another question will be: “Where the hell are the American people as their country is owned, run, and ruined by Jewish Power for the interests of Israel?”

BUT America’s Hypocrisy and Double Standards will never end. Nor will the Jewish hold on the country end unless and until the American people revolt against that foreign occupation and reclaim their independent country.

Iranian ex-spy says Khomeini ordered downing of Pan Am flight 103

Who was responsible for the 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland? While the Libyan government was thought to have masterminded the terrorist attack, a bombshell documentary by Al Jazeera quotes a former Iranian intelligence officer as saying that it was Iran that ordered the atrocity.

British newspaper the Telegraph cites documents obtained by the Qatar-based pan-Arab satellite network which claims that Iran had recruited a terrorist organization based in Syria to carry out the bombing.

The former agent, Abolghassem Mesbahi, who defected to Germany from Iran, is quoted by the Telegraph as saying that flight 103 was downed in retaliation for a US Navy strike on an Iranian civilian airliner six months earlier which killed 290 passengers and crew.

According to Mesbahi, the Ayatollah Khomeini instructed Iranian operatives “to copy exactly what happened to the Iranian Airbus.”

It was previously thought that Libya was responsible for the bombing. A former Libyan intelligence officer, Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, was convicted by a Scottish court for the bombing and sentenced to life in prison.

Lawyers working on Megrahi’s appeal uncovered evidence which appears to support Mesbahi’s claims that Iran had given the order to carry out the bombing to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command.

While Iran vehemently denied involvement in the Lockerbie incident, it was considered a suspect since it was believed it was seeking to take revenge against the US for the downing of Iran Air flight 655, a civilian airline that the US Navy had mistaken for a fighter plane. American naval forces were protecting merchant shipping in the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq war.

$4M ran$om paid to Zio-Wahhabi al-Qaeda-linked group for relea$e of 13 nuns

Greek Orthodox nuns held by Syrian rebel group Nusra Front freed after 4 months in captivity.

A $4 million ransom was reportedly paid to the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front for the release of 13 Greek Orthodox nuns that were held by the rebel group for four months, Lebanese media reported on Monday.

In addition to that, some 150 imprisoned Syrian women were to be released in exchange for the nuns from Syrian government jails, along with three other women were taken from their convent in the Christian-dominated town of Maaloula during clashes in December.

The nuns’ release was reportedly delayed because the kidnappers added further conditions before agreeing to hand over the hostages.

They were released early Monday in a rare deal between the Syrian government and rebels of the Nusra Front, mediated by the Gulf country of Qatar, traditionally a rebel supporter.

The freed nuns arrived in Damascus on Monday morning, where they received a warm welcome at the Church of the Cross in the predominantly Christian neighborhood of Qassaa, official news agency SANA reported.

“All of Syria is happy today (for their return),” Bishop Luka al Khoury told Reuters. “These are women who do nothing but pray…They don’t have weapons or bombs. On the contrary, they pray for people to be safe and secure.”

Eleven of the nuns later attended a service of thanksgiving for their safe return at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross in Damascus. Mother Superior Pelagia Sayyaf, one of the abducted nuns, held a candle and wept as she entered the church.

The women said they were well treated and appeared so in a video of their release issued by the Nusra Front, the group that held them. One elderly nun too weak to walk was carried by a rebel gunman, his face covered with a balaclava, to a nearby vehicle.

They thanked God for their safety before heading to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Old Damascus, where they will now stay, SANA said.

The Syrian Greek Orthodox Patriarchal Assistant, Bishop Luca al-Khoury, who led an official church reception to greet the nuns, accused the rebels fighting to overthrow President Bashar Assad of targeting Syria’s patchwork of religious minorities. Al-Khoury is a frequent defender of Assad’s rule.

“Syria, which does not differentiate between Muslims and Christians, is targeted… by the armed terrorist groups who don’t understand anything but the language of killing and destruction.”

Hezbollah issued a congratulatory statement, saying “On this happy occasion Hezbollah congratulates the released nuns, the Orthodox Church, the Syrian leadership, and the Syrian and Lebanese people,” Hezbollah said in a statement issued Monday and quoted by NOW Lebanon.

Minorities under fire

The nuns’ seizure confirmed the fears of many in Syria’s minority Christian community that they were being targeted by extremists among rebels. Syria’s three-year conflict has become increasingly sectarian.

The country’s chaotic mix of rebel groups is overwhelmingly Sunni Muslim, while the minorities include Christians, Shiite Muslims and Alawites – whose sect is a Shiite offshoot. Most have sided with Assad or remained neutral, fearing for their fate should rebels take power. Assad is an Alawite.

Also Monday, the international rights group Amnesty International accused the Syrian government of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity by blockading and starving civilians in the southern Damascus neighborhood of Yarmouk.

Amnesty said it estimates 200 people in Yarmouk have died of hunger-related illnesses since a yearlong blockade on the area was tightened in July by forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Amnesty said its research showed that 128 people starved to death in a report released Monday.

Assad-loyal forces began blocking the Palestinian-dominated area to flush out rebels and to punish civilians for harboring them, in a policy the government has used across Syria since the uprising began three years ago.

Efforts to reach a truce in Yarmouk allowing food deliveries to starving residents have repeatedly collapsed.

Iran’s finger on trigger to destroy I$raHell, warns senior Revolutionary Guards commander

Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Brigadier General Hossein Salami says Iran is not the only country with the capacity.

A senior member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards warned Tuesday that the Islamic Republic could destroy Israel and any spot under its control. He also reiterated Iran’s s assertion that it is not behind the arms shipment that the Israel Navy seized last week, allegedly en route to Gaza.

“Today we can destroy every spot which is under the Zionist regime’s control with any volume of fire power fight from here,” Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami said Tuesday at a conference in Tehran, Fars News reported.

“Islam has given us this wish, capacity and power to destroy the Zionist regime so that our hands will remain on the trigger from 1,400km away for the day when such an incident (confrontation with Israel) takes place,” he added.

Speaking at the conference, entitled, “Islamic World’s Role in the Geometry of World Power,” Salami also declared that Iran was not the only country with the capacity to target Israel.

The message comes less than a week after Israeli naval forces intercepted an Iranian arms vessel carrying medium-range missiles in the Red Sea, about some 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) from the Israeli coast. The shipment was headed for the Gaza Strip via Sudan. The IRGC denied the allegations, as did the Iranian government.

“The allegation is merely based on repetitious and baseless fabrications of the Zionist media,” Amir Abdollahian, Deputy Foreign Ministry for Arab and African Affairs said,

Naziyahu Pushing White House for Pollard’s Release

Prime Minister reveals ‘not a conversation goes by’ without him asking for the Israeli agent’s freedom.

Israel National News

The ongoing push to free Jonathan Pollard from his US prison sentence is still active in Washington, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu revealed Saturday night.

“Pollard does not need to be in the hospital nor in a prison – he needs to be released.” Netanyahu stated to Channel 10. Pollard has been hospitalized since last week, heightening concerns that the Israeli agent will not live to see his release. “He has paid his price…Israel was wrong to send him.”

“There isn’t a single conversation in the White House that goes by without bringing [Pollard] up,” Netanyahu continued. “I hope that we can finally succeed to bring him home.”

Jonathan Pollard has recently been subject of a high-profile campaign for his release. He is now in his 29th year of incarceration in a US jail for passing classified security-related information from America to Israel. He was arrested by FBI agents in 1985 and held ever since.

Calls for his release escalated since it was revealed last month that the US and UK have been spying on top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. Pollard was arrested on charges far less serious, critics noted, and slammed the Obama administration for “hypocrisy.”

The calls for Pollard’s release escalated so much so that over 106 MKs attended a special Knesset session in December to protest US President Barack Obama’s refusal to release the prisoner, and signed a petition urging the President to reconsider.

Several top US officials, including Former Deputy National Security advisor Elliott Abrams, United States Assistant Secretary of Defense during the Jonathan Pollard affair Lawrence Korb, and former CIA chief James Woolsey have also called for Pollard to be released.

Soviet leader Josef Stalin used to shrug off critics by his favorite Central Asian saying: “The dogs bark; the caravan moves on.”

Russia’s hard-eyed president, Vladimir Putin, is following the same strategy over Ukraine and Crimea.
Putin swiftly moved his knight into the empty chess square of Crimea, thereby regaining full control of one of Russia’s four strategic port regions: Sevastopol, Murmansk, St Petersburg and Vladivostok.

Sevastopol, now firmly in Moscow’s hands, is Russia’s sole gateway to the Black Sea, Mediterranean, and Mideast. The vast, co-shared Russian-Ukrainian Sevastopol naval base was a shaky, awkward arrangement doomed to eventual failure.

Semi-autonomous Crimea, over 60% ethnic Russian, will hold a referendum on 16 March to decide to remain in Ukraine or rejoin Russia. A referendum is clearly the answer to the whole Ukraine-Russia problem.

Ukraine has been a corruption-ridden failed state since it separated from Russia in 1991. This writer has long suggested that partition of Ukraine into Western and Russian-oriented halves is the sensible solution, with Crimea returning to Russia.

Putin asks if Western-backed Kosovo can go independent of Serbia, why can’t Crimea break its links with Kiev?

The temporary attachment of majority ethnic Russian Crimea to Ukraine in 1954 after 250 years of Russian rule was unnatural, a ticking time bomb. It has now exploded, triggered in part by the West’s successful effort to overthrow the elected but corrupt government in Kiev of Viktor Yanukovich.

Overturning regimes deemed uncooperative or hostile has long been a CIA specialty. Its first big success came in 1953 with the subversion of Iran’s democratic-nationalist leader, Mohammed Mossadegh by a combination of propaganda, rented crowds, and bribes. We saw this same technique used – enhanced by modern social media – in Ukraine’s first Orange Revolution, Georgia, again in Iran(unsuccessfully), and, with the help of US and British special forces, in Libya and Syria. Egypt came next, where a US-backed tinpot military dictator, the self-appointed “Field Marshall al-Sisi” claims he is answering the people’s call.” Not a peep from Washington. Or about the crushing of opposition by Bahrain’s US-backed monarchy.

Russia, which used to be adept at subversion, has lagged in recent years but it still knows the signs. The Kremlin is convinced that Ukraine’s latest revolution was engineered by Washington. The US Undersecretary of State for Europe admitted Washington has spent $5 billion over recent years in Ukraine to bring it into the West’s orbit – aka “building democracy.”

Two points to note. Did Washington think that tough Vlad Putin would just take its coup lying down?

Second, it’s amazing how determined Washington’s cold warriors remain to tear down Russia. The bankrupt US, $17 trillion in debt, running on money borrowed from China, with bridges collapsing and 44 million citizens on food stamps, suddenly finds the money to offer bankrupt Ukraine a new $1 billion loan – just to compete with Moscow. A loan unlikely to be repaid.

America has a bad habit of personalizing foreign affairs and demonizing uncooperative leaders. Remember when Egypt’s Gamal Abdel Nasser was denounced as “Hitler on the Nile?” “Khadaffi, Mad Dog of the Mideast?” Most Americans have little knowledge of geography, history or world affairs so the easiest way to market overseas adventures to them is by creating foreign bogeymen like Khadaffi and Saddam.

Vladimir Putin is the latest. He is being hysterically demonized by the US and British media. Vlad the Bad.

Disturbingly, US Republicans and the usual media propagandists are heaping blame on President Barack Obama for “losing Crimea,” as if any of them knows where it was before last week. John McCain and his sidekick Sen. Lindsey Graham have been demanding that Obama “get tough.”

Sure. Let’s mine Russia’s ports or blockade its oil and gas exports. Nothing like a nuclear war to show how weak the Democrats are. Thank god McCain did not win the presidency. The dolts at Fox TV can’t tell the difference between caution and cowardice.

President Putin’s ambition is to slowly reassemble some parts of the old USSR, Ukraine being the most important. Doing so is in Russia’s national interest, much as we may not like it. Nearly all Russians believe Putin is on the right track. By contrast, Washington wants to keep Russia weak and treat it as an obsequious, defeated nation, like postwar Germany or Japan.

The US won’t accept that Russia has any legitimate spheres of influence, while Washington’s span the globe. Last week, US Secretary of State John Kerry, who used to be a sensible fellow before becoming corrupted by power, blasted Russia: “you just don’t invade a country under a phony pretext!”

I guess Kerry has never heard of the US invasions of the Dominican Republic, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, Haiti, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia and Libya. Or can’t remember Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin “incident.”

Kerry should cut the hypocrisy and get to work on a diplomatic settlement. Two major nuclear-armed powers cannot – must not – be allowed to confront one another.

Ukraine could turn out to be the 1914 Bosnia-Herzegovina of our era if we don’t stop primitive breast-beating over a region no one could even find on a map until recently.
