UK Must Secure Brit’s Release Amid Ethiopia Crackdown

Image result for Ethiopia’ HUMAN RIGHT PHOTO

Ethiopia’s government has declared a ‘state of emergency’ as part of an ongoing crackdown on protests, sparking fears for a British man who is held under a political death sentence in the country.

According to reports today, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, announced the state of emergency in a state television broadcast, in which he accused protestors of “put[ting] the integrity of the nation at risk”. Rights groups have estimated that some 500 people have been killed in recent weeks as the government quelled protests around Addis Ababa. The authorities are reported to have blocked access to the internet in parts of the country.

Ethiopia’s ruling party has been accused of harshly cracking down on its critics in recent years, including by passing sweeping jail sentences on bloggers, journalists and opposition politicians. Among those currently held is Andargachew ‘Andy’ Tsege, a British father of three who was kidnapped at an international airport in June 2014, and ‘rendered’ to Ethiopia. Mr Tsege, from London, is a prominent critic of Ethiopia’s government. He was sentenced to death in absentia in 2009, in a trial that US diplomats observed as “lacking in basic elements of due process.” Mr Tsege is held at Kality prison, which has been referred to by prisoners as ‘Ethiopia’s gulag.’

The British government, which has a close bilateral relationship with Ethiopia, has not called for Mr Tsege’s release. Human rights organization Reprieve, which is assisting Mr Tsege’s family, believes that in light of Mr Tsege’s illegal death sentence and kidnap, the government should call for him to be returned to his family in London.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has said that his Department is seeking ‘legal access’ for Mr Tsege, and in June  this year, the Foreign Office said it had secured a promise that he would be able to see a lawyer. However, government documents obtained by Reprieve indicate that the Ethiopian authorities have told UK officials that Mr Tsege cannot appeal his death sentence.

Last month, it emerged that the prison authorities have not allowed Mr Tsege to have a pen and paper with which to write a request for a lawyer.

Commenting, Maya Foa, a director at Reprieve, said: “The Ethiopian government has shown it is ready to commit terrible abuses against its critics – shooting protestors, jailing journalists, and sentencing opposition figures to death. Among those languishing in prison, and currently in grave danger, is a British citizen – Andy Tsege, who was sentenced to death in absentia, then kidnapped and rendered to a notorious Ethiopian ‘gulag’. As Ethiopia’s leaders intensify their crackdown on dissent, the British government must urgently request Andy’s release, and secure his safe return to his family in the UK.”

Do Western Nations Care about Yemeni Lives or Saudi Blood Money?

by: Medea Benjamin

How much is the life of a Yemeni worth? Not much, according to the Saudi regime that has been bombing and starving the people of Yemen for since March 2015, or to the Saudi’s western backers, particularly the US and UK, which have been supplying the Saudi regime with weapons, military training, logistical support and diplomatic cover for its dirty interventionist war.

The latest outrage is the October 8 bombing of a packed funeral hall in Yemen’s capital city of Sanaa. This horrendous attack killed more than 140 people and injured about 600 more.

“The time for review and mild statements of condemnation is over. The blood of the Yemeni people is on our hands.”

On the heels of this attack comes a blistering report by Reuters showing, through Freedom of Information Act documents, that the Obama administration went ahead with a $1.3 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia last year despite warnings from US officials that the United States could be implicated in war crimes for supporting a Saudi-led air campaign in Yemen that has killed thousands of civilians.

What has been the US and UK governments’ response to the funeral bombing? The British government announced UK arms sales to the Saudis is “under careful and continual review”, while the Obama administration issued a statement that US support for Saudis is not a “blank check” and that the US was “prepared to adjust our support so as to better align with US principles, values and interests.”

The “principles, values and interests” of the Western powers, however, have been to buy cheap Saudi oil and make record profits by selling massive quantities of weapons to one of the most repressive countries in the world.

Ever since the founding of the kingdom in 1932, the West has allied itself with a government that beheads non-violent dissidents, forces women to live under the dictates of male guardians, treats foreign workers like indentured servants, spreads the intolerant Wahhabi version of Islam around the world, funds terrorist groups, crushes democratic uprisings in neighboring countries like Bahrain and now wages a catastrophic war in one of the poorest countries in the Arab world, Yemen.

Yemenis are furious about the latest Saudi massacre, as well as Western complicity and the lack of action on the part of the international community. Thousands marched on the UN headquarters demanding a UN investigation. Others are amassing at the Saudi border, calling for revenge and perhaps sparking an even wider conflict.

In the US, Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut is one of the few representatives expressing outrage. He said the Saudi attack on funeral party follows months of attacks on schools, homes, and hospitals. “If the U.S. is serious when it says our support for Saudi Arabia isn’t a blank check, then it’s time to prove it—because it’s clear the Saudi-led coalition isn’t listening. The administration should pull U.S. support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen because it’s harming America’s national security, enabling terrorist groups to thrive, and killing innocent civilians.”

What can we do? Join us in demanding that our government stop arming the Saudi regime.  Support the courageous human rights defenders inside Saudi Arabia who are trying to reform their government through nonviolent means, such as Saudi Civil and Political Rights Association, also known as ACPRA, whose eleven members—all prominent human rights defenders—are suffering lengthy prison sentences. Call on the United Nations to form an independent international commission to investigate war crimes in Yemen.

The time for review and mild statements of condemnation is over. The blood of the Yemeni people is on our hands. If the Western nations want to show that they value the lives of Yemenis over the profits of their weapons industries, they must immediately stop providing the bombs, the bombers, the armored tanks, the Apache helicopters, the missiles, the howitzers, the training, the refueling, and all other military support to the Saudi criminals.  If Western values do not prioritize making blood money for General Dynamics, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin and the other companies that profit from war, let’s prove it.

New Documents Show US Knew Helping Saudis in Yemen Could Be War Crime

Officials doubted Saudi military could target Houthi militants without hurting civilians or destroying infrastructure, Reuters reports

As the relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia comes under renewed scrutiny in the wake of the Gulf nation’s weekend bombing campaign in Yemen, a Reutersexclusive published Monday reveals that the Obama administration approved a $1.3 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia last year despite warnings that it could implicate the U.S. in war crimes.

The Saudi-led airstrikes in Yemen on Saturday killed at least 140 people and wounded hundreds more, prompting the U.S. to launch a “review” of its support for the kingdom. On Monday, Reuters reported that the U.S. Department of State had already warned the government that “the United States could be implicated in war crimes” for aiding the campaign.

Officials also had doubts that the Saudi military would actually be able to target Houthi militants without hurting civilians or destroying infrastructure, according to department emails and interviews with officials.

However, government lawyers stopped just short of concluding that U.S. support for the campaign would implicate the country in war crimes—which could have opened up the U.S. military to accountability. Reuters writes:

U.S. government lawyers ultimately did not reach a conclusion on whether U.S. support for the campaign would make the United States a “co-belligerent” in the war under international law, four current and former officials said. That finding would have obligated Washington to investigate allegations of war crimes in Yemen and would have raised a legal risk that U.S. military personnel could be subject to prosecution, at least in theory.

The documents, obtained by Reuters through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, shed new light on “how the United States pressed the Saudis to limit civilian damage and provided detailed lists of sites to avoid bombing, even as officials worried about whether the Saudi military had the capacity to do so,” Rueters continues.

American officials were actually well aware that airstrikes in Yemen were killing scores of civilians. Reuters writes:

State Department lawyers “had their hair on fire” as reports of civilian casualties in Yemen multiplied in 2015, and prominent human rights groups charged that Washington could be complicit in war crimes, one U.S. official said. That official and the others requested anonymity.

During an October 2015 meeting with private human rights groups, a State Department specialist on protecting civilians in conflict acknowledged Saudi strikes were going awry.

“The strikes are not intentionally indiscriminate but rather result from a lack of Saudi experience with dropping munitions and firing missiles,” the specialist said, according to a department account of the meeting.

The specialist also noted that “weak intelligence” had contributed to confusion over who was who on the ground.

The investigation comes just after the U.S. approved yet another billion-dollar arms sale to Saudi Arabia. At the time of the authorization in September, Oxfam America president Ray Offenheiser condemned the deal as continued evidence of both nations’ “startling indifference to civilian lives.”

Indeed, as Common Dreams reported over the weekend, the Obama administration’s new review has little credibility among anti-war advocates. Although National Security Council spokesman Ned Price rebuked the airstrikes Saturday night, stating, “U.S. security cooperation with Saudi Arabia is not a blank check,” United Nations-based journalist Samuel Oakford pointed out in response that the government has long been making that empty declaration.

“WH used this ‘not a black check’ language for months,” he tweeted, noting that there is also no deadline for the review and that “refueling continues.”

ليلة روسيا في مجلس الأمن... هل ستحسم الصواريخ المجنّحة الجدل الدبلوماسي!؟The U.S. has once again sunk its teeth into the backside of the crocodile, but, can’t pull its teeth out as the croc slowly draws its president, the hapless and useless, Barack Obama, into the river where the giant reptile is going to thrash and squirm until it has the prey wriggling before it in preparation for drowning and devouring.  So, why bite the skin of a crocodile?  What’s the big deal?

The Clinton/Trump candidacies have the Neo-Con traitors up a tree.  There is a genuine belief that the pollsters have it wrong because their reports are not proving valid in ordinary discussions with American voters.  If Trump wins the election, it will be as though a White Male Banker took control of the White House signaling an end to U.S. interventions overseas, especially those which are likely to either trigger a war with Russia or which might suck the lifeblood of the country along the lines of Iraq.

Trump is going to look at every conflict in the world the way a lending officer looks at his clients at a bank.  If the deal smells, or if the fish has lost its sheen, he’s not going to get involved.  For the Neo-Con traitors and agents of the sick Zionism infesting this country today, a victory for Trump will herald the end of their hegemony at the various “think tanks” in Washington D.C. and, perhaps, hopefully, the end of their diseased effect on American foreign policy.

To the Neo-Con, only a victory by the clearly compromised Hillary Clinton can save them and their allies, like the Saudis and Qataris, whom they view as guarantors of interventionist policies in the Near and Middle Easts.  It is only Clinton, whose trail of mass corruption and murder, insures the continuity of the failed Zionist policies of the criminal rodents on the Beltway.

Obama feels extreme pressure from his so-called advisors to take objective military steps to counter the burgeoning influence of Russia and Iran.  He thinks he needs to show some muscle, but, cannot do that with a head-on attack on Syrian ground forces or airbases.  His solution is one which he thinks will avoid a direct confrontation (or even war with Russia), id est, a cruise missile attack on Syrian Air Force bases limiting the SAAF’s ability to take off and land.  This idiotic plan,  doubtlessly hatched by the sick Zionists inside the crevices of the W.H., will, not only, fail, but, lead to the Russian and Syrian use of their S-300 and S-400 anti-cruise missile systems bringing down American missiles worth millions of dollars. And, even if the push-over media avoids reporting the event, the American public is bound to learn of the apocalyptic risk with which Obama has dallied from reading the Alternative Media.

Aleppo is Obama’s last hope to negotiate with the Syrian government.  He has been told that the retaking of Aleppo by the SAA will harden Dr. Assad’s position at Geneva (if another conference ever happens) and will become the death-knell of the American-created terrorist network in Syria.

An Iraqi-sponsored resolution has been submitted to the U.N.S.C. condemning the blatant Turkish encroachment on sovereign Iraqi soil.  The U.S. is at a cliff’s edge.  What would happen if the U.S. vetoed the resolution, in effect telling the Iraqis that the powers that be in D.C. are supportive of Erdoghan’s expansionist policies?  It’s going to get much worse, folks.  Especially if the war criminal Clinton secures the White House. That’s what the Rothschilds, George Soros, the Wahhabists and World Zionism all want.

Wanna know why the U.S. is miffed?  Watch this from Vaughan Famularo:

Al-Saakhoor and Sulaymaan Al-Halabi QuartersWe can confirm the total delousing of the Electrical Substation and the north side of the Al-Saakhoor Roundabout today.  The rodents belonging to Nusra/Alqaeda tried hard to slow down the inevitable push by the SAA through firing GRAD rockets at the western side of the city hoping that such action would deter a major assault.  It didn’t.  The orders were to continue with the plan until all rodents were exterminated.  Nusra/Alqaeda rodents do not, as a rule, surrender.  They have been indoctrinated in the belief that death is the fast track to a Paradise awaiting murderers like themselves.  The SAA and its allies are willing agents to facilitate their infernal voyage.  It’s a pleasure.

Salaahuddeen Quarter:  The SAA defenders in fortified positions here repelled an attack by terrorist degenerates and counter-attacked liberating the Khaalid Ibn Al-Waleed Mosque and the Cable Warehouse Center.

Hanaanu at the Manaasher Al-Burayj near the residencies.  (Look at the map above and scroll northeast)  Heavy fighting going on with the rodents taking unsustainable losses.  We predict the fall of their defenses over the next 48 hours.  Russian and Syrian air forces battering the quivering rodents.

Al-‘Uwayja has been liberated completely.  We reported yesterday that the army had advanced into the industrial sector.  Today, the army ended the reign of terror these rats had brought to the city and pursued them all the way to the Jandool Roundabout killing over 40 in an operation characterized as “precise and swift”.  The enemy vermin here were the Nooreddeein Al-Zangi group whose remnants are on the run with the SAA and PDC in hot pursuit.  The orders are to kill them all – especially the foreigners.

HAMA:   The army has completely liberated Al-Tulaysiyya, Al-Qaahira, Tal-Al-Usood.  The SAA continues to move rapidly to exterminate more rodents.

HOMS:  George Santayana said it:  “those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”  And so, suicide drivers in Toyotas, Hyundais and Hondas persist in dressing themselves up for their lunch with the Messenger of Islam, Muhammad Abu Al-Qaasim.   At the Al-Taleela Sanctuary,  a smiling nincompoop from Daghestan was toasted by an SAA ranger as he drove his vehicle toward an SAA outpost.

IDLIB:   There is a war going on between Ahraar Al-Shaam and Jund Al-Aqsaa all over Idlib Province.  Jaysh Al-Fath, run by that notorious Saudi pedophile, ‘Abdullah Al-Muhaysini, has chosen neutrality.  However, Jaysh Al-Islam, inter alia, have sided with Ahraar Al-Shaam.  The rules of the game today is kidnap and murder members of the other’s rodents.  Ahraar Al-Shaam has ejected Jund Al-Aqsaa from its bases in Ma’arrat Al-Nu’maan and Al-Haamidiyya, Jarjanaaz and Al-Mastooma.  In Sirmaada, it is reported by Al-Akhbaar, that the Jund Al-Aqsaa vermin turned over their weapons to their enemy.  In Sukayk, Jund Al-Aqsaa killed 11 Ahraar Al-Shaam rodents and in Kafr Sijna, the same group executed 20+ rodents who were in their holding cells.

Ma’arrat Al-Nu’maan area:  We can confirm that the known terrorist sodomite and leader of Jund Al-Aqsaa has been liquidated in an ambush set by the SAA-SF 4 days ago.  His nom de guerre was “Abu Al-Faarooq”.  Id is still pending.

The Syrian Air Force is battering the terrorist positiions of Nusra/Alqaeda, Jund Al-Aqsaa and Ahraar Al-Shaam in the following areas:  Khaan Shaykhoon, Saraaqib, Al-Tamaani’a, Jisr Haysh, Jisr Al-Shughoor, Furayka.  These towns in both the east and south rural areas of the province saw the complete destruction of a Command-Control Center run by Turkish officers.  It is reported that the officers were killed in the raids over Saraaqib.

Al-Daanaa and Ma’arrat Al-Nu’maan:  In the north rural area, the SAAF struck 2 training bases for foreign mercenaries run by Jaysh Al-Fath.

US maternal mortality rate worse than Libya, Palestine

Image result for US mortality rate PHOTO

The maternal mortality rate in the United States is higher than that of Iran, Palestine, Libya, and Saudi Arabia. The rate has risen since 2000 and is higher than most “high-income locations,” according to a study of health factors in 195 nations.

In 2015, the US had a maternal mortality rate (MMR) per 1,000 livebirths of 26.4, an increase from both 1990 (16.9) and 2000 (17.5), according to the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study. The multi-pronged study, coordinated by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), included worldwide data on diseases, life expectancy, nutrition, and a host of other factors.

The 2015 MMR in the US was higher than that of the likes of Vietnam (15.6), Saudi Arabia (15.7), Palestine (16.2), Thailand (20), Iran (20.8), Libya (22.8), and Qatar (25.5), among many others.

Overall, the US had 1,063 maternal deaths in 2015, compared to 28 in Canada, 315 in all of western Europe, and 1,135 in all of central Europe, eastern Europe, and Central Asia, the study found. Russia had 340 deaths, down from 655 in 2000. China had 2,948 deaths, but with an MMR lower than the US, at 17.7.

The US was among the few “high-income locations” that had an MMR of more than 15, the study found.

“By the year 2015 … 49 countries had an MMR of less than 15, including Saudi Arabia, all countries in central Europe, and all high-income locations with the exception of the USA, Argentina, Brunei, Chile, and Uruguay,” the report stated.

The MMR in the US was on par with nations like Kazakhstan (26.5) and Uzbekistan (26.2).

“Several other countries in North Africa and Middle East along with the USA, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Kazakhstan, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam had an MMR  between 15 and 30,” according to the study

Many Latin American, Caribbean, Southeast Asian, and African nations had among the highest MMRs in 2015. The Central African Republic had the highest MMR in the world, at 1074.3.

Some of the increase in America’s MMR in recent years, the report said, may be due to increased, official awareness of cause of death.

The US “has high MMR for a high-SDI (Socio-demographic Index, or rates of education, fertility, and income) country—and is one of the few where it is increasing—but following the lead of Mexico and much of Latin America, it is also one of the only countries that has proactively improved its civil registration system with addition of a pregnancy checkbox on the standard death certificate,” the report stated.

It added: “The USA should learn from the experiences of other countries and consider implementing regular, comprehensive confidential enquiries into drivers of maternal mortality.”

The study said that to improve on maternal mortality rates, nations should “expand coverage and improve quality of family planning services, including access to contraception and safe abortion to address high adolescent fertility; invest in improving health system capacity, including coverage of routine reproductive health care and of more advanced obstetric care” among other suggestions.

A separate report released in September found that the state of Texas, ground zero for restrictions to sexual and reproductive health care in the US, has a maternal mortality rate that is among the highest in the industrial world.

Outside of maternal mortality rates, the study included many global health factors that had improved in the last several years, including an increased average life span by 10 years (62 to 72) since 1980 and decreases in deaths from HIV/AIDS and malaria — by 33 percent and 37 percent, respectively — since 2005.

The world has also halved the death rate of children younger than five years old, to 5.8 million per year, the study found. The top conditions that make humans sick but are not necessarily fatal include upper respiratory infections like pneumonia and diarrheal diseases, the study said.

The study included analyses of women’s health and childbirth, healthy life expectancy, behavioral and environmental risks, and child mortality.

“Development drives, but does not determine health,”said Dr. Christopher Murray, director of IHME at the University of Washington in Seattle. “We see countries that have improved far faster than can be explained by income, education, or fertility. And we also continue to see countries – including the United States – that are far less healthy than they should be given their resources.”

Nazi Declines to Study Rabin Tie to Beatings

New York Times – July 12, 1990

Israel’s Parliament decided today not to investigate charges that former Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin [later Prime Minister] ordered soldiers to break the bones of Arab militants at the beginning of the Palestinian uprising…

…..Soldiers testifying at Colonel Meir’s trial said Mr. Rabin and other senior commanders told them privately that beatings should be used to punish Arabs known to be troublemakers.

…a company commander under Colonel Meir, testified in April that he was told by Colonel Meir to ”break the arms and legs” of Arabs ”because the detention camps are full.” Full story

Jerusalemite activist sentenced to 20 months in Nazi Camp

samer-abu-aishaNazi Magistrate’s Court in Jerusalem sentenced Palestinian Jerusalemite journalist and activist Samer Hussam Abu Aisha, 29, to 20 months in Israeli occupation prison. Abu Aisha has been imprisoned since 6 January 2016; he was attacked and abducted from inside the Jerusalem office of the International Committee of the Red Cross, where he and Hijazi Abu Sabih had erected a protest tent against the Nazi occupation’s order expelling them from their city of Jerusalem. They held evening events, lectures and cultural programs in rejection of deportation and in defense of the Palestinian identity of Jerusalem.

The two organizers were leaders of a campaign against Nazi occupation orders of expulsion from Al-Aqsa Mosque and from the city of Jerusalem.  Their campaign included singing protests and other forms of cultural resistance and creative actions. On 16 December 2015, he and Abu Sbeih were delivered an order of expulsion from the city of Jerusalem for five months, citing “state security and order.” He had previously been arrested and harshly interrogated for 33 days, then released and banned from traveling outside Palestine. As soon as his house arrest ended, the Nazi occupation imposed the expulsion order upon them.

Abu Aisha went on hunger strike for 21 days in August in solidarity with Bilal Kayed’s demand for release from Israeli prison; he was part of a group of 35 prisoners from Gilboa prison who also demanded improved conditions inside the prison. Rawan Abu Aisha, Samer’s wife, said that the strike was in part prompted by ongoing denials of family visits.

Abu Aisha wrote earlier regarding the Nazi charges against him:

I was born in Jerusalem in 1987. I lived there all my life except for a few years during my studies in Egypt. As part of my work, I often travel to participate in conferences and youth exchanges in Arab countries and across the world.

Last August I travelled to Lebanon to participate in the 25th Arab Youth Camp. 28 hours after my return to Jerusalem on 17 August 2015, I was arrested by Nazi occupation forces and subjected to an interrogation that lasted 44 days. Eventually, I was conditionally released under open ended house arrest and accused of traveling to an “enemy state” in violation of the “Israeli” emergency regulations of 1952 which place a ban on travel to enemy state of the Zionist regime. These “laws” and policies are forced on us Palestinians despite the fact that we don’t recognize these laws, and the fact that Palestinians hold Lebanon to be a sister state which is naturally, geographically and culturally connected to Palestine.

The detention of Yasser Qous, Jerusalem director of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society, was extended as well by Israeli occupation courts on 9 October; he had been assaulted and arrested by police forces in the Old City of Jerusalem and accused of “obstructing police work.”

Hillary Clinton: Candidate of War

Exclusive: The U.S. political/media establishment only permits the propaganda version of the Syrian conflict – and Hillary Clinton fully embraced it in her belligerent comments in the second presidential debate, writes Daniel Lazare.

By Daniel Lazare

In case there was still any uncertainty, Hillary Clinton banished all doubt in her second debate with Donald Trump. A vote for her is a vote not only for war, but for war on behalf of Al Qaeda.

This is clear from her response to ABC reporter Martha Raddatz’s painfully loaded question about the Syrian conflict. With Raddatz going on about the hundreds killed by the evil twins, Bashar al-Assad and Putin and even tossing in the Holocaust for good measure, Clinton saw no reason to hold back:

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

“Well, the situation in Syria is catastrophic and every day that goes by we see the results of the regime – by Assad in partnership with the Iranians on the ground, the Russians in the air – bombarding places, in particular Aleppo where there are hundreds of thousands of people, probably about 250,000 still left, and there is a determined effort by the Russian air force to destroy Aleppo in order to eliminate the last of the Syrian rebels who are really holding out against the Assad regime.

“Russia hasn’t paid any attention to ISIS. They’re interested in keeping Assad in power. So I, when I was secretary of state, advocated, and I advocate today, a no-fly-zone and safe zones. …  But I want to emphasize that what is at stake here is the ambitions and the aggressiveness of Russia. Russia has decided that it’s all in in Syria, and they’ve also decided who they want to see become president of the United States too, and it’s not me.  I stood up to Russia, I’ve taken on Putin and others, and I would do that as president.”

It was an astonishing performance, even for a presidential debate. Rarely have more lies and misstatements been crammed into a single two-minute statement.

Where to begin? For starters, there are not 250,000 people in Aleppo, but somewhere around 1.75 million, only a small portion of whom live in a rebel-controlled enclave in the city’s east. Despite Clinton’s claim that Russia is trying to “destroy Aleppo,” most of the city manages to carry on quite peacefully despite rebel “hell cannons” lobbing explosive-packed gas canisters into government-controlled areas at regular intervals.

“One of the most striking things about Aleppo,” New York Times reporter Declan Walsh wrote last May, “is how much of the city appears to be functioning relatively normally. Much of the periphery has been reduced to rubble. But in the city center, I saw people on the sidewalks, traffic flowing, hotels and cafes with plenty of customers, and universities and schools open for students.”

Not so in the rebel-held east, however. Juan Cole described the area as “a bombed-out slum,” a ghost town with a population conceivably as low as “a few tens of thousands.” Life under the rebels is “miserable,” he went on. “Some neighborhoods are controlled by Al-Qaeda, some by the hard line Salafi Jihadi ‘Freemen of Syria’ (Ahrar al-Sham), some by militias of, essentially, the Muslim Brotherhood.”

The Truth About the Rebels

Although Clinton seems to regards such elements as valiant freedom fighters, a U.S. Defense Department spokesman confirmed last April that Al Nusra, Al Qaeda’s affiliate that recently renamed itself Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, or the Syria Conquest Front, was firmly in charge. “It’s primarily al-Nusra who holds Aleppo,” Col. Steve Warren told a press briefing.

Journalist James Foley shortly before he was executed by an Islamic State operative.

Journalist James Foley shortly before he was executed by an Islamic State operative.

When Secretary of State John Kerry tried to persuade “moderate” rebel forces to sever ties with Al Nusra during last month’s brief ceasefire, The Wall Street Journalreported that some of the largest factions responded by “doubling down on their alliance” and drawing even closer to Al Qaeda. In other words, they flipped Kerry the bird.

The people Clinton supports are thus the same forces that brought down the World Trade Center 15 years ago, killing nearly 3,000 people and triggering a global war on terror that has allowed Al Qaeda to metastasize across half the globe, including its spinoff group, the Islamic State or ISIS.

The statement that “Russia hasn’t paid any attention to ISIS” was similarly bizarre. When ISIS converged on Palmyra, in central Syria, in May 2015, it was the U.S. that held off bombing even though the ISIS fighters would have made perfect targets as they crossed miles of open desert. Why didn’t the United States attack and possibly keep the antiquities of Palmyra out of ISIS’s hands?

Explained The New York Times: “Any airstrikes against Islamic State militants in and around Palmyra would probably benefit the forces of President Bashar al-Assad. So far, United States-led airstrikes in Syria have largely focused on areas far outside government control, to avoid the perception of aiding a leader whose ouster President Obama has called for.”

In other words, the U.S. allowed ISIS to take one of the richest archeological sites in the Middle East even though it could have stopped it in its tracks. By the same token, it was Russian air strikes – some of the heaviest, in fact, since Moscow entered the war in September 2015 that enabled Syrian forces to retake the city the following March.

The idea that Russia doesn’t care about ISIS stood reality on its head. Moreover, when U.S. jets killed at least 62 government soldiers outside the ISIS-besieged town of Deir Ezzor last month, ISIS took advantage by launching an offensive just minutes after the bombing had ceased.

So, by holding its fire in the case of Palmyra and unleashing it in the case of Deir Ezzor, Washington – inadvertently or not – enables ISIS to advance and then gets huffy when anyone objects. As U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power declared when Russia dared call an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting in response: “Even by Russia’s standards, tonight’s stunt, a stunt replete with moralism and grandstanding, is uniquely cynical and hypocritical.”

The words were shocking not only because scores of people were dead, but also because Power was defending a bombing raid that had taken place on Syrian territory in flagrant violation of international law. While Syria’s sovereign government has requested Russia’s assistance, it has objected to the violation of its territory by the United States and its allies. That means the U.S. coalition has no legal right, under international law, to be operating in or over Syria.

Dangerous Escalation

As for the “no-fly zone” that Clinton invoked, Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned in early 2012 that it would mean mobilizing as many as 70,000 US military personnel to neutralize Syria’s extensive anti-aircraft network – and that was before Russia decided to buttress Syria’s defenses by installing sophisticated S-300 and S-400 missiles. A “no-fly-zone” also would be an act of war in which the U.S. would not only have to fire on Syrian forces, but on Russian and Iranian forces, too. Instead of peace, the result would be a vast escalation.

Finally, Clinton’s reflexive Russia-bashing showed just how bellicose her worldview has become. If Trump was the first person in a presidential debate to threaten a rival with jail, Clinton was the first to label her opponent an agent of a hostile foreign power.

Yet, Clinton’s efforts to blame Russia for the Syria debacle make little sense. After all, Russia didn’t enter the war until September 2015, more than four years after the blood had started to flow. Rather than ambitions and aggressiveness, it’s clear that it concerns are far more practical. Russian President Putin knows all too well that if Assad falls, it will be a repeat of the Taliban victory in Afghanistan in 1996, but on a far grander scale.

As Alastair Crooke, a diplomat and veteran of British military intelligence, observed in late 2015, Putin sees Syria as “Russia’s veritable front line”:

“Russia recalls how, after the Afghan war, radical Wahhabi-style Islam spread out from Afghanistan and reached up into Central Asia. Russia also recalls how the CIA and Saudi Arabia inflamed and used the Chechen insurgency to weaken Russia. …

“But equally, President Putin shares the perception of many in the region that America and its allies are not serious about defeating ISIS. And sensing that the West was finally about to be lured by Turkey toward a no-fly zone – which would only end, as it did in Libya, in chaos – Putin played his surprise hand: he entered the war on ‘terrorism,’ blocked Turkey’s project to ‘re-Ottomize’ northern Syria, and challenged the West to join with him in the venture.”

The idea was to force the U.S. into waging a real war against violent Salafists who were threatening Russia via its soft underbelly. If so, the effort backfired since the only thing it accomplished was to anger Washington’s hardline foreign-policy establishment, which will undoubtedly be beside itself with fury if the rebels in east Aleppo are defeated.

Trump’s Foggy Account

Trump, fatuous businessman that he is, mostly seemed lost in a fog of his own making. Once or twice, though, he seemed to have a glimmer of an idea of what was at stake. “Now, she talks tough,” he said of Clinton:

Ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi shortly before he was murdered on Oct. 20, 2011.

Ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi shortly before he was murdered on Oct. 20, 2011.
“She talks really tough against Putin and against Assad. She talks in favor of the rebels. She doesn’t even know who the rebels are. You know, every time we take rebels whether it’s in Iraq or anywhere else, we’re arming people. And you know what happens? They end up being worse than the people [they overthrow]. Look at what she did in Libya with Gaddafi.  Gaddafi is out. It’s a mess. And by the way, ISIS has a good chunk of their oil. I’m sure you’ve probably have heard that. It was a disaster. The fact is almost everything she has done has been a mistake and it’s been a disaster.”

Trump’s comment was correct, more or less. Either Clinton doesn’t know who the rebels are or is so consumed by enmity for Putin and Assad that she doesn’t care.

Trump was also right that rebels often turn out to be worse than the strongmen they topple. In real life, Muammar Gaddafi was a grotesque goon. But compared to some of the Salafist head choppers who have filled the resulting power void in Libya, he seems more like Desmond Tutu in retrospect.

Much the same can be said for Assad.  Arguably, he is little more than a Syrian Michael Corleone. But after somehow managing to survive five years of a U.S.-Turkish-Saudi onslaught – and in comparison to the barbarous Al Qaeda and ISIS fanatics operating in Syria – he now seems like Nelson Mandela.

In any event, Hillary Clinton has made it crystal clear. Anyone who votes for her is voting for greatly expanded warfare in the Middle East and probably military confrontation with Russia elsewhere as well. As bad as things are in Syria, in a few months they could get a lot worse. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

Blatant Lie: AP “Fact Checks” Directly Contradict AP’s Own Reporting on Syria

Land Destroyer

The Associated Press (AP) through a gimmick it calls “AP FACT CHECK,” claimed after a recent US presidential debate that presidential candidate Donald Trump was untruthful about Syrian President Bashar Al Assad fighting the self-proclaimed “Islamic State” (ISIS).

AP’s article, AP FACT CHECK: Trump wrong that Assad fights IS,” claims:

Not true. Syria’s President Bashar Assad considers the Islamic State group to be among numerous “terrorist” groups that threaten his government, but his military is not fighting them. It is focused on combatting Syrian opposition groups, some of which are supported by the United States. The fight against the Islamic State militants is being waged by a U.S.-led coalition, with help from Turkey, by training, advising and equipping Syrian Arab and Kurdish fighters.

However, despite AP’s claims, AP’s own reporting directly contradicts its “AP FACT CHECK,” as pointed out by Syrian activist and geopolitical commentator Mimi Al Laham in a recent Tweet.

In their April 2016 article,After Palmyra, Syrian troops take another IS-controlled town,” AP would report that:

A week after taking back the historic town of Palmyra, Syrian troops and their allies on Sunday captured another town controlled by the Islamic State group in central Syria, state media reported.

The push into the town of Qaryatain took place under the cover of Russian airstrikes and dealt another setback to the IS extremists in Syria. An activist group that monitors the Syrian civil war said that government forces are in control of most of the town after IS fighters withdrew to its eastern outskirts.

The advance came a week after Syrian forces recaptured Palmyra from IS and is strategically significant for the government side. The capture of Qaryatain deprives IS of a main base in central Syria and could be used by government forces in the future to launch attacks on IS-held areas near the Iraqi border.

Not only does AP directly contradict its own reporting on Syrian forces over the past year with its recent and clearly disingenuous “AP FACT CHECK,” it also contradicts claims that Russia is also uninterested in fighting ISIS – admitting clearly that Syrian government gains against the terrorist organization took place under the cover of Russian airpower.

Also, AP would even report that Russian ground forces were present at Palmyra, directly on the front with ISIS.

AP’s May 2016 article, Russia builds military camp near ancient site in Palmyra,” would admit:

Russia has built a military encampment inside a zone that holds the UNESCO world heritage site in the ancient Syrian town of Palmyra, where Islamic State militants were driven out recently by pro-government forces.

The Russian military described the camp Tuesday as “temporary,” saying its few housing units were being used by explosives experts who are removing mines left behind by the militants, and that the Syrian government had given approval to build the camp.

It is uncertain why AP has resorted to such blatant, clumsy lies, especially under a series of articles it is boldly calling “AP FACT CHECK.” However, it is clear – based on AP’s own reporting – that they are in fact lying intentionally and in direct contradiction to their own reporting.

It is also interesting how AP boldly titles its recent series as “AP FACT CHECK” yet provides no citations or evidence for its “fact checking.”

AP has perpetuated intentional lies dressed up as news reporting for years, if not from its inception, deceiving global audiences regarding everything from “weapons of mass destruction” in Iraq, to the characterization of political conflicts ranging from the so-called “Arab Spring” to political instability in Southeast Asia.

Caught in a blatant lie contradicting its own reporting should put the world on notice that AP is not a legitimate news service, nor should it be trusted as a journalistic source until those responsible for “AP FACT CHECK” are exposed, condemned, and expelled from AP, and AP provides a proper explanation as to how such blatant lies could cross its pages in the first place.

For the Syrian and Russian soldiers and airmen who bravely died fighting ISIS in combat AP itself reported on, no greater disservice could be done than to deny such combat even took place. AP’s recent “AP FACT CHECK” was meant to portray recent political debates in a certain light, but instead, it has only managed to cast AP itself as illegitimate, deceitful, and untrustworthy.

Zionist Trump: Jerusalem is the “undivided capital of the state of Israel.”

Trump: Jerusalem is the “undivided capital of the state of Israel.”

1. The next Israeli Vice President for American Affairs (IVPFAA), Islam hating slumlord and KKK-endorsed Donald Trump has a Zuckerbook page with the text in italics below. The statement is essentially a social media suck up to Israel and its lobby in the US. Additional comments by me and the tuyuur are in are black and not in italics. Note to Shas Party members, all red-highlighting is being done by today’s guest editor, Vladimir Putin.

NEW YORK, NY – Donald J. Trump met privately today with Prime Minister Netanyahu for over an hour at Mr. Trump’s residence in Trump Tower. The two have known each other for many years and had the opportunity to discuss many topics important to both countries.

This is a prelude to what follows and indicates that what follows will be Trump’s complete and total submission to Israel. This guy tapped out before the match even began.

Mr. Trump and the Prime Minister discussed the special relationship between America and Israel and the unbreakable bond between the two countries.

Yup, we’re fucked when we see “special relationship” and “unbreakable bond” in the same sentence. Total cave in about to happen (again).

The topics of military assistance, security and regional stability were addressed. Mr. Trump agreed that the military assistance provided to Israel and missile defense cooperation with Israel are an excellent investment for America.

Utter bullshit and everyone knows it. I’m sure Trump is going to endorse Israel’s racist wall and probably ask for Israel’s help in building the one for Canada Mexico.

Mr. Trump said that under a Trump administration, there will be extraordinary strategic, technological, military and intelligence cooperation between the two countries. Mr. Trump recognized Israel as a vital partner of the United States in the global war against radical Islamic terrorism.

There already exists “extraordinary” cooperation between the US and Israel in all of those fields if by extraordinary you mean that Israel can steal anything it wants, has spies planted in all three branches of the federal government, and can have congress jumping up to applaud Israeli politicians so quickly and furiously you’d think their chairs were on fire.

“Radical Islamic terrorism” is the lifeline of the both the US and the Israeli National Security States – until Russia takes over that role again. Israel loves the war on terror and so does the US. As I have noted repeatedly the war on terror creates more terrorists and thus is a self perpetuating entity that has taken on a life of its own and is fueled by the major media most of which is controlled by Hizbullah of course.

They discussed at length the nuclear deal with Iran, the battle against ISIS and many other regional security concerns.

Mr. Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu discussed at length Israel’s successful experience with a security fence that helped secure its borders.

I knew this was coming. Yes, they discussed Israel’s apartheid wall and how cool Israeli bigotry is. Fits right in with Trump whose advisors include Islam haters like Walid Phares and Mike Flynn.

They discussed Israel’s burgeoning hi-tech and biotech economy and how it has made stunning advances improving and saving lives around the world. In particular, Mr. Trump noted Israel’s emergence as a world leader in cyber defense and security and its cooperation with the United States in this regard.

Like Stuxnet for example. Here’s a nice quote:

“The film also quotes other sources in the US intelligence community who accuse Israel of disrupting a joint covert operation to sabotage computers used in Iran’s nuclear program by acting rashly and in opposition to agreed-upon plans.”

Yup, that’s the Israel we all know and love. They do whatever they want and they make us do whatever they want. That’s what it means when politicians say that there can be “no daylight” between Israel and its sub the US.

And let’s not forget how those wonderful Israelis hacked into iPhone making every single iPhone owner a potential target.

Mr. Trump recognized that Israel and its citizens have suffered far too long on the front lines of Islamic terrorism.

And is this why Israel supports al-Qa’ida? But I digress.

He agreed with Prime Minister Netanyahu that the Israeli people want a just and lasting peace with their neighbors, but that peace will only come when the Palestinians renounce hatred and violence and accept Israel as a Jewish State.

Isn’t it nice that Trump’s position reads like it was written by AIPAC? And next comes the killer quote. By the way, just who are “the Israeli people in Trump’s opinion? Does he mean only Jewish citizens of Israel? Does he include the Palestinian native inhabitants who are citizens of Israel? Does he include all Jews world wide? I believe the answer is below.

Finally, Mr. Trump acknowledged that Jerusalem has been the eternal capital of the Jewish People for over 3000 years,

Wow. According to Trump the Jewish people have had Jerusalem as a capital for 3000 years. So if that is the case, does the Trump campaign believe that the Jewish people do not have allegiances to the countries and capitals where they were born? Just asking.

and that the United States, under a Trump administration, will finally accept the long-standing Congressional mandate to recognize Jerusalem as the undivided capital of the State of Israel.

There is no such congressional mandate. Congress is not in charge of foreign policy, the executive branch is. It is of course true that Congress votes for this shit all the time and everyone on the fucking planet, including Trump of course, knows why.

The meeting concluded with both leaders promising the highest level of mutual support and cooperation should Mr. Trump have the honor and privilege of being elected President of the United States.

2. Okay, it’s video time. Here’s the next IVPFAA in a brief video.  Notice which of the two questions he answers first.

If you are unfamiliar with Grant Smith, this somewhat long clip (around 10 minutes) is a good way to see the kind of work he does.  It’s a nice one to watch after watching the first video.
