Who is Really Behind the US-Based Organization ‘United Against Nuclear Iran’?

A US-based organization, which calls itself “United Against Nuclear Iran,” (UANI) is trying to portray Iran as a nuclear threat to peace and impose sanctions against Tehran’s economic partners around the world.

In an interview with Sputnik, Rahman Hariri, a foreign relations expert in Tehran, took a closer look at this organization.

“UANI was established in 2008 by Mark Wallace, former CIA Director Jim Woolsey, Richard Holbrooke and Dennis Ross. Mark Wallace is a former US ambassador to the UN, a prominent member of the Republican Party and a personal friend of ex-President George Bush Sr. The organization is presided over by Gary Samore, who once advised President Obama on arms control and weapons of mass destruction. This group is trying to hamper Iran’s economic relations with the outside world with the help of negative media coverage and threats to companies doing business with Tehran,” Rahman Hariri said.

Even though “United Against Nuclear Iran” poses as a nongovernmental organization, its leaders have close links to the White House and the US Congress, and have played a role in Washington’s decision to impose sanctions on Iran.

“Judging by what this organization and its supporters are doing, it looks like they are stoking up anti-Iranian sentiment in the world and undermining the Islamic Republic’s foreign trade, especially after Iran and the P5+1 Group came to a final agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program in July 2015,” Hariri noted.

United Against Nuclear Iran is a nonprofit advocacy group that aims to inform the public about the nature of the political regime now existing in Iran, to raise US and global awareness of the threat a nuclear-armed Iran could pose to the world, and to promote efforts that focus on vigorous national and international, social, economic, political and diplomatic measures in this direction.

“This means that the organization is opposed to Iran’s nuclear program and is working to economically and politically isolate the Islamic Republic and prevent US companies from doing business with Iran even by using threats against the families of US company employees,” Rahman Hariri said.

They make it look as if Iran is posing a triple threat to the world with the development of its nuclear program, human rights violation and sponsoring international terrorism. Who are the sponsors?

Rahman Hariri said that UANI is sponsored by members of the American-Israeli lobby, including the 100,000-strong American-Israeli Public Relations Committee which spends millions of dollars each a year on its efforts to influence US policy.

The list of other sponsors includes the Gulf states, Western and Asian countries, which have always tried to minimize Iran’s trade and military ties with the outside world and who gained much from the international sanctions imposed on Tehran.

These are also the US Republican Party, the anti-Iranian lobby in the US and the EU, the intelligence agencies of the United States, the European Union and of a number of Arab countries. And also big cartels and major US companies which come out against Iran’s nuclear program in a bid to phase out competition and be the only ones working in the country.

Who is behind UANI? Rahman Hariri said that, first and foremost, these are certain political, military and intelligence organizations in the US, as well as the Republicans and members of the Israeli lobby who are against President Obama’s policy and the terms of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action Iran and the P5+1 signed last year.

Secondly, this is the US government which, contrary to its officially declared policy, is providing covert support to UANI thus discouraging Tehran from implementing the JCPOA.

“UANI is using diplomatic resources available to it to undermine Iran’s positions in the world and is working hard to intimidate US and foreign companies willing to do business with Tehran,” he noted.

He added that in order to effectively neutralize the destructive work done by organizations like UANI the world needed to strengthen international nongovernmental institutions, pursue a policy of relaxation of global tensions and provide an undistorted picture of Iran in the media and in the minds of millions of people around the world.

Jews and History: Lies Galore

NOVANEWS

“You are of your father the devil…Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8: 44

There are two historical events where Jews went all out with their lies and fabrications: the Bar Kokhba revolt and the Holocaust.

The Bar Kokhba revolt was a Hebrew rebellion against the Romans that supposedly took place between 131 and 135 AD in Judea and spearheaded by someone called Simeon Bar Kosevah. However, it is a spurious historical event that has been dredged up – and possibly invented out of whole cloth – in order to cast doubt on the annihilation of the Hebrew people in 70 AD.

As for the so-called World War 2 “Holocaust“, there’s not one person on earth that has not been exposed to its well-oiled propaganda machine.

Both of these events point to dubious crimes of apocalyptic proportions, while they immensely and unsurprisingly benefit modern-day Israel which was founded in 1948 on the stolen land of Palestine.

Flavius Josephus

Bust of Josephus

Bust of Josephus

Historian Flavius Josephus is the foremost authority on the events that led to the destruction of the Hebrew people, Jerusalem, and the Hebrew Temple in 70 AD.

He himself was a Hebrew who converted to Christianity upon witnessing firsthand the materialization of Jesus’s prophecies, in reference to the destruction of Jerusalem and the annihilation of the Judahite Hebrews who rejected the Messiah.

However, a campaign has been ongoing to discredit the fact that he became a Christian in order to somehow prove that not all non-Christian Hebrews were killed in 70 AD. Still, his writings tell his story:

“At about this time lived Jesus, a wise man. . . He was one who performed surprising deeds and was a teacher of such people as accept the truth with pleasure. He won over many Judahites and many of the Greeks. . . When Pilate, upon an indictment brought by the principal men among us, condemned him to the cross, those who had loved him from the very first did not cease to be attached to him. And the tribe of the Christians, so-called after him, has to this day still not disappeared…. He was the Messiah.”

Insulting JesusFirst, notice how he waxed all romantic describing Jesus. And second, why would a Hebrew historian call Jesus the Messiah and a wise man – when Talmudic Jews call Him son of a whore  – unless he was a believer?

Further, he was born Yosef ben Matityahu. The changing of one’s name can find its roots in the Christian tradition.

Many Orthodox Christians still do it upon baptism. Just like Saul became Paul and Simon Bar-Jona became Peter, Yosef ben Matityahu became Flavius Josephus.

The Revolt That Wasn’t

In biblical times, Judahite Hebrews living abroad made the trip every year to Jerusalem for the Feast of Unleavened Bread and the Feast of Weeks, which took place right after Passover.

“Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Judahites from every nation under heaven.” Acts 2: 5

However, in AD 70, as they all gathered in Jerusalem God had a surprise for them. They were all about to be slaughtered by the Roman Army. An event that is known as the Apocalypse and the End of the Age of the Hebrews and of the Old Covenant. Hence, the entire Hebrew race was wiped out, except for those who accepted Christ and fled beforehand, like Josephus.

So, if all Hebrews were killed, how was it possible that a Hebrew rebellion took place 60 years after their annihilation? Was it a Zombie apocalypse?????

It either happened with converted Jews (different from Judahite Hebrews) or it didn’t happen at all.

1) If that revolt actually occurred,

a) it would have most likely involved converted Jews from different places that tried to establish themselves in Palestine;
b) it would have been sparked by the Samaritans who were themselves converted Jews and lived in Samaria, next to Judea – they were no strangers to insurrections as they had a series of them during the 5th and 6th centuries;
c) its recorded “occurrence” might in actuality be that of the Apocalypse of AD 70, spun to discredit the fact that all Hebrews were killed then.

2) It most likely didn’t happen at all.

Even recorded history cannot firmly place the origin of the author of the rebellion. Here’sWikipedia:

“Documents discovered in the 20th century in the Cave of Letters give his original name, with variations: Simeon bar Kosevah (Hebrew: שמעון בר כוסבה‎), Bar Koseva (בר כוסבא) or Ben Koseva (בן כוסבא‎) This may indicate his father or his place of origin was named Kosevah… Rabbi Akiva indulged the possibility that Simon could be the Jewish messiah, and gave him the surname ‘Bar Kokhba’ meaning ‘Son of the Star’ in Aramaic. The name Bar Kokhba does not appear in the Talmud but in ecclesiastical sources. Rabbinical writers subsequent to Rabbi Akiva did not share Rabbi Akiva’s estimation of ben Kosiva. Akiva’s disciple, Yose ben Halaphta, in the Seder ‘Olam (chapter 30) called him ‘bar Koziba’ (Hebrew: בר כוזיבא‎), meaning, ‘son of the lie’.”

Not even converted Jews can agree on the man’s existence or who he was or where he came from. Further, this so-called Bar Kokhba revolt is quite doubtful, given that there’s only one fragmented historical account of it. Here’s how Wikipedia views it:

“…based on the single source of the Historia Augusta, regarded as ‘unreliable and problematic’,… The revolt is shrouded in mystery, and only one brief historical account of the rebellion survives… According to Cassius Dio, who likely exaggerated his numbers, 580,000 Jews were killed in the overall operations, and 50 fortified towns and 985 villages were razed to the ground, with many more Jews dying of famine and disease… the writings of the Roman historian concerning the Bar Kokhba revolt survived only as fragments.”

Cave of Bar Kokhba

Cave of Letters? Or any cave will do?

There cannot exist an accurate historical account of an event with just ONE single source and only fragments surviving.

The Apocalypse of AD 70 was not just recorded by Flavius Jospehus but by others as well, including Tacitus. The Gospel accounts were written by four of the Apostles, not one.

This Bar Kokhba revolt sounds actually made up, especially because of the way historical blanks were filled in.

There were NOT 580,000 Judahite Hebrews, nor 50 towns and 985 villages (geez!) in Judea at that time, particularly when 60 years earlier 1.2 million Hebrews were slaughtered, and Jerusalem and the countryside were razed to the ground by the Roman Army.

Oh, the lies!

Note how documents about the author of the revolt were “discovered” in the occupied West Bank in the 20th century in the Cave of Letters (1960-1961). Said “discovery” was quite fortuitous and convenient, especially as it occurred right in the midst of the establishment of a Jewish state on the stolen land of Palestine which they fraudulently claimed as their Abrahamic inheritance, when converted Jews of today are NOT even remotely bloodline descendants of Abraham.

These “documents” were to “prove” that the Hebrews were not wiped out in 70 AD, and that Jesus was a liar when He said:

“Behold, your house is being left to you desolate!” Matthew 23:38

Desolate means barren and lifeless. Or no more Hebrews walking about. All dead in the Apocalypse of 70 AD. D-E-A-D. DEAD. Their land inheritance buried with them. A truth Christians throughout the world knew until converted Jews began their well-financed campaign of lies.

Thus, such a “proof” of the Hebrew race or house not being desolate was important in order to silence the rumbling of those who were against the establishment of the State of Israel by the non-Israelite, non-Hebraic, Ashkenazic-Khazarian Zionists. These land thieves – who lost their homeland Khazaria and were in search of a new land – were markedly portraying themselves as Hebrews “rightfully” returning home when in fact they were not. See Jews are NOT the Hebrews of the Bible.

The “recorded history” of that so-called revolt has all the hallmarks of a made up event by people desperately trying to hide the fact that the Hebrews no longer exist as a people.

The Bar Kokhba revolt is therefore quite suspicious. And as far as we’re concerned it never actually happened, especially as it is interpreted to have been a Hebrew revolt.

The Spurious Holocaust

Similar discrepancies can be found in the World War 2 Jewish “Holocaust” as well.

According to Red Cross records, apparently only 271,000+ Jews died during that war, as opposed to the 6 millions we’ve been told were systematically slaughtered in gas chambers and incinerated in ovens (hence the term HOLOCAUST or BURNT SACRIFICE), and as compared to the 60 million non-Jews who actually perished.

Most of the Jews on the Red Cross list succumbed to malnutrition, exhaustion, and sicknesses while others were definitely killed. A few of their corpses might have been incinerated to prevent the spread of diseases, while the majority were buried in mass graves.

The fabrication of 6,000,000 dead was just so the Zionists could have a disaster of such enormity that those who oppose the creation of the state of Israel on stolen Palestinian land, which materialized right after World War 2 in 1948, would shut their mouths when that bit of “history” is shoved down their throats.

So far it’s been a successful strategy. Every time critics of the Jewish state rightfully accuse Israel of land theft and genocide, the Zionists throw the Holocaust in their faces as if one evil could justify another.  Basically the Jews took a page from Adolph Hitler who said: “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.” See How the Ashkenazi Jews Conquered the West.

Let’s put 6 Million corpses in perspective – surmising half were killed and buried and the other half incinerated, just to make it easy on the Holocaust evangelists.

Naked Corpses in a Mass Grave

Naked Corpses in a Mass Grave

Try to bury 3,000,000 bodies in thousands upon thousands of mass graves and have no one discover all of them to this day, except for a handful few. Impossible.

Besides, how would anyone go about identifying millions of Jewish corpses from millions of non-Jewish corpses? The Nazis had concentration camps for 5,000,000 non-Jews as well with a great number of them also exterminated: Roman Gypsies, twins, Poles and Slavic people, Catholic priests, people with mental illnesses and physical disabilities, Jehovah’s Witnesses, trade unionists, etc. Could the Holocaust evangelists have been using pictures of non-Jewish corpses (and victims) to tell us they were Jews? How exactly did the propagandists identify these naked corpses? Did non-Jewish corpses smell like putrefying flesh while Jewish corpses smelled like Chanel No 5?????

Or how about trying to incinerate (Holocaust) 3 Million bodies and see what happens. An average body takes about three hours to burn completely and that’s with today’s technology. 3,000,000 bodies x 3 hours (with today’s cremation process) = 9,000,000 hours or 375,000 days or 1,027 years. In other words, the Germans would still be burning bodies of so-called Jewish victims, even if they were trying to incinerate just 500,000 of them, let alone 3,000,000.

Old Fashioned Incinerators

A few Nazi Old Fashioned World War 2 Incinerators that were mostly to burn clothes of dead prisoners, hence the naked corpses.

Now imagine the Holocaust (or incineration) of 6,000,000 corpses, as it is the only way to explain the absence of the thousands upon thousands of mass Jewish graves.

To incinerate all of these bodies in just a few years would have required an operation of such magnitude that hundreds upon hundreds – if not thousands upon thousands – of old-fashioned crematories, which required more than 3 hours (probably 6 or more)  to fully burn one body, would have had to be lined up on field after field after field after field, while leaving behind 15,000 tons of ashes.

Is there any proof of these fields of ovens and of their subsequent myriad dunes of ashes that would have resembled the desert of Abu Dhabi? We didn’t think so.

Desert Dunes in Abu Dhabi

Desert Dunes in Abu Dhabi

And what about the needed manpower and the sheer expense of it all, especially in the midst of a World War that required from the Reich every available man as well as an unfathomable amount of money? And what of the diseases that would have spread to the soldiers, the slave laborers, and the population from rotting corpses all over the place?

6,000,000 people are no laughing matter and no easy task to rid of, especially if they first had to be incarcerated, then killed in gas chambers, and finally incinerated. It’s like purposing to destroy the population of an entire country like El Salvador, Libya, or Nicaragua.

Steven Spielberg’s simplistic and propagandist movie Schindler’s List, with its scene of one makeshift, open-air crematorium (seriously?), where the stacked-up bodies would have never fully burned, thus exacerbating the problem, could use a good incineration.????

“An important objective study, which is suppressed, is the 1948 report by the International Red Cross, covering its activities during World War II (1942-1945) in the camps maintained by the German authorities. They were allowed to deliver over one million parcels of food, clothing and medicine to the inmates. It stated (that) their efforts were hindered not by the Germans but by the Allied blockade of Germany and (that) the dire situation in Germany during the final months of the war was due to ‘the barbarous aerial warfare of the Allies’ (carpet bombing). It also stated that large numbers of ‘the three million or so European Jews avoided internment altogether’. Did they say 3 million? (It seems there was a massive migration of Jews out of Europe in the 1930’s to America and in the 1940’s to [Palestine].) There is no mention whatsoever of genocide, gas chambers, death showers, poison gas, etc.; quite the contrary. In lengthy books about World War II written by Churchill and Eisenhower, there is not a single mention of Jews being genocided in Nazi ‘death camps’,” explained Michael Rivero of WRH.

Furthermore, concentration camps in World War 2 were not just for Jews. There existed many of them all over the world for other people as well, including for Japanese in the US, for German refugees and Swedish communists in Sweden, for German anti-Nazis/Austrians/Spaniards in France, for Brits/Americans/Australians/and others in China, and for the above-mentioned 5,000,000 non-Jews throughout Europe.

But, hey, only Jews are important. See The Chosen People Syndrome.

Conclusion

When it comes to Jews and their history, take it all with a bucket of salt – not just a grain, especially since Ashkenazi Jews have been hard at work fabricating “facts” since the 18th century.

IDF Sniping Palestinian kids

Notice the Israeli sniper’s bullet right through the heart of the deceased Palestinian boy in the foreground.

All of these fabrications and lies have one main purpose: to prop up the illegitimate andApartheid State of Israel, a cancer on the earthand the very reason for all the problems in the Middle East today.

“Every time anyone says that Israel is our only friend in the Middle East, I can’t help but think that before Israel we had no enemies in the Middle East,” revealed John Sheehan, a Jesuit Priest.

The civilized world must bring to justice all avowed Zionists, along with their supporters and financiers, for their continuous Holocaust of the Palestinians and their incessant theft of Arab lands.

Shame on all those, especially the US Government and Zionist “Christians”, who are enabling and allowing this situation to persist! It is the greatest ongoing injustice of our lifetime and the singlecause of instability in the world.

Appeal: Every conscientious individual should implement a personal boycott of Israel and everything made there.

“Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips.”  Romans 3: 13

Can Jews ever leave their Cult?

NOVANEWS
Image result for anti-Semites CARTOON
By Gilad Atzmon

Baruch Spinoza left the Jews. Heinrich Heine became a Christian. A few others, such as Israel Shamir and myself, a decade ago, simply drifted away.

Recently, Israeli historian Shlomo Sand announced that he too was no longer a Jew. I read his manuscript in Hebrew with great interest but soon realised that while he indeed stopped identifying as a Jew, he still hadn’t removed himself from kosher binaries.

“I don’t write for anti-Semites, I regard them as totally ignorant or people who suffer from an incurable disease,” (How I Ceased To Be A Jew  p’ 21). Lines like these, echoing as they do the language of the ADL, made me feel very uncomfortable and, when it came to the Holocaust, Sand, who is usually so astute and profound, somehow managed to lose it. The Nazis are “beasts”, and their rise to power metaphorically he described as a “beast awakening from its lair.”  Despite my respect for Sand, I would expect a leading, inspirational  historian and a former-Jew to have moved beyond such banal Hasbara-recycled clichés.

This week, in the Jewish progressive magazine Mondoweiss, Avigail Abarbanel, an ex-Israeli and anti- Zionist informed us that she too has now left the cult,’. I agreed with most of Abarbanel’s arguments against Israel and Zionism but I was nonetheless alarmed at the intellectual dishonesty at the core of her argument.

“Rarely can people inside a cult see where they are. If they could, the cult wouldn’t be what it is” Abarbanel points out. “They think that they are members of a special group that has a special destiny, and is always under threat.” Thus does Abarbanel describe the Israelis, yet she fails to mention that this is also an accurate description of the Jewish left in general and the Mondoweiss/JVP cults in particular, to which she herself belongs. As we now know, just as Israel claims for itself a special place amongst the states of the world, so do the anti-Zionist Jews who, when it comes to Anti Israeli politics, operate within Jewish, racially exclusive political cells (JVP, IJAN etc.). So, if Abarbanel thinks that Israelis are at fault for being a ‘special group’ perhaps she should inform us what is the criterion that legitimates JVP and Mondoweiss being a special group within the solidarity movement?

Abarbanel continues: “cult members are taught from birth that the world outside is dangerous, that they have to huddle together for safety.” This is indeed a good description of Israeli collective psychosis, but it is also a prefect portrayal of Mondoweiss’ operational mode and it  puts Mondoweiss’ campaign against Alison Weir and Greta Berlin in perfect context. It also explains whyMondoweiss banned Jeffrey Blankfort and why the Jewish outlet changed its comment policy just to make sure that it can block any attempt to criticise the Jewish state in the light of Jewish culture and my own study of Jewish tribalism. Just like Israel,Mondoweiss is terrified of the ‘dangerous world out there’. As far as Abarbanel’s definition of cult is concerned, Mondoweiss, JVP and Israel are actually identical.

Abarbanel is obsessed with the holocaust and this is hardly surprising. The Holocaust is currently the most popular Jewish religion. The Israeli prominent philosopher Yeshayahu Leibowitz observed in the 1970s that Jews believe in many different things but all Jews believe in the Holocaust. “Have I forgotten the holocaust? No. Of course not,” Abarbanel writes. “Persecution of Jewish people throughout history was very real indeed.” And if you expect Abarbanel, a psychotherapist by profession, to question why is it that Jews have been ‘hated throughout history,’ you’re probably wasting your time. In Abarbanel’s universe, the persecution of the Jews is a metaphysical constant. It is beyond questioning. In her view, Jews are victims and the Goyim are oppressors. “Jews were a hated and despised group among many cultures in Europe, and Jews have always had an uneasy co-existence with non-Jews. Any marginalised or persecuted group has an uneasy relationship with the dominant culture. Once you have been discriminated against it’s hard to trust.”

So again, despite ‘leaving the cult,’ Abarbanel’s take on the holocaust is well within that same Hasbara cult she claims to have left.

Actually, one would expect a psychotherapist to advise the Jews to look in the mirror and actually identify what is it about them that invokes so much animosity in so many different times and in so many different places. This is something Bernard Lazare, an early Zionist did just over a century ago when he identified what it was in the Jews that has made Jewish history into such a disastrous continuum. Sadly, Abarbanel falls far short of this task. Unable or unwilling to examine what is it in the Jew or in Jewishness that invokes animosity, for her, this is one step too far because to look into that question may suggest that Israel is not the problem, it is but a symptom of the problem.

In Abarbanel’s universe, the Jews are always the victims and all they have to do is to separate their victimhood from their identity. This is strange since if victimhood is embedded in Jewish existence, then surely it must also be inherent in Jewish identity. My guess is that the day Jews manage to distinguish between their victimhood and their identity will be the day they simply stop being Jews.

The meaning of this is simple. Abarbanel may have left a cult, but she didn’t leave the cult. Operating well within the realm of Jewish ID politics, her task is simply to convey the image that not all Jews are bad. Abarbanel advises the Israelis to self reflect – perhaps once in a while she should do the same. Other than that I wish her luck in her cultural divorce project.

Debate Moderator Distorted Syrian Reality

NOVANEWS
By Robert Parry

How ABC News’ Martha Raddatz framed her question about Syria in the second presidential debate shows why the mainstream U.S. news media, with its deep-seated biases and inability to deal with complexity, has become such a driving force for wider wars and even a threat to the future of the planet.

Raddatz, the network’s chief global affairs correspondent, presented the Syrian conflict as simply a case of barbaric aggression by the Syrian government and its Russian allies against the Syrian people, especially the innocents living in Aleppo.

ABC News' chief global correspondent Martha Raddatz.

ABC News’ correspondent Martha Raddatz

“Just days ago, the State Department called for a war crimes investigation of the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad and its ally, Russia, for their bombardment of Aleppo,” Raddatz said. “So this next question comes through social media through Facebook. Diane from Pennsylvania asks, if you were president, what would you do about Syria and the humanitarian crisis in Aleppo? Isn’t it a lot like the Holocaust when the U.S. waited too long before we helped?”

The framing of the question assured a response from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about her determination to expand the U.S. military intervention in Syria to include a “no-fly zone,” which U.S. military commanders say would require a massive operation that would kill many Syrians, both soldiers and civilians, to eliminate Syria’s sophisticated air-defense systems and its air force.

But Raddatz’s loaded question was also a way of influencing – or misleading – U.S. public opinion. Consider for a moment how a more honest and balanced question could have elicited a very different response and a more thoughtful discussion:

“The situation in Aleppo presents a heartrending and nettlesome concern. Al Qaeda fighters and their rebel allies, including some who have been armed by the United States, are holed up in some neighborhoods of eastern Aleppo. They’ve been firing rockets into the center and western sections of Aleppo and they have shot civilians seeking to leave east Aleppo through humanitarian corridors.

“These terrorists and their ‘moderate’ rebel allies seem to be using the tens of thousands of civilians still in east Aleppo as ‘human shields’ in order to create sympathy from Western audiences when the Syrian government seeks to root the terrorists and other insurgents from these neighborhoods with airstrikes that have killed both armed fighters and civilians. In such a circumstance, what should the U.S. role be and was it a terrible mistake to supply these fighters with sophisticated rockets and other weapons, given that these weapons have helped Al Qaeda in seizing and holding territory?”

Siding with Al Qaeda

Raddatz also could have noted that a key reason why the recent limited cease-fire failed was that the U.S.-backed “moderate” rebels in east Aleppo had rebuffed Secretary of State John Kerry’s demand that they separate themselves from Al Qaeda’s Nusra Front, which now calls itself the Syria Conquest Front.

Instead of breaking ties with Al Qaeda, some of these “moderate” rebel groups reaffirmed or expanded their alliances with Al Qaeda. In other words, Official Washington’s distinction between Al Qaeda’s terrorists and the “moderate” rebels was publicly revealed to be largely a myth. But the reality of U.S.-aided rebels collaborating with the terror group that carried out the 9/11 attacks complicates the preferred mainstream narrative of Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin “the bad guys” versus the rebels “the good guys.”

If Raddatz had posed her question with the more complex reality (rather than the simplistic, biased form that she chose) and if Clinton still responded with her recipe of a “no-fly zone,” the obvious follow-up would be: “Wouldn’t such a military intervention constitute aggressive war against Syria in violation of the United Nations Charter and the Nuremberg principles?

“And wouldn’t such a strategy risk tipping the military balance inside Syria in favor of Al Qaeda and its jihadist allies, possibly even its spinoff terror group, the Islamic State? And what would the United States do then, if its destruction of the Syrian air force led to the black flag of jihadist terror flying over Damascus as well as all of Aleppo? Would a Clinton-45 administration send in U.S. troops to stop the likely massacre of Christians, Alawites, Shiites, secular Sunnis and other ‘heretics’?”

There would be other obvious and important questions that a more objective Martha Raddatz would ask: “Would your no-fly zone include shooting down Russian aircraft that are flying inside Syria at the invitation of the Syrian government? Might such a clash provoke a superpower escalation, possibly even invite nuclear war?”

But no such discussion is allowed inside the mainstream U.S. media’s frame. There is an unstated assumption that the United States has the unquestioned right to invade other countries at will, regardless of international law, and there is a studied silence about this hypocrisy even as the U.S. State Department touts the sanctity of international law.

Whose War Crimes?

Raddatz’s favorable reference to the State Department accusing the Syrian and Russian governments of war crimes further suggests a stunning lack of self-awareness, a blindness to America’s own guilt in that regard. How can any American journalist put on such blinders regarding even recent U.S. war crimes, including the illegal invasion of Iraq that led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis?

While Raddatz referenced “the heart-breaking video of a 5-year-old Syrian boy named Omran sitting in an ambulance after being pulled from the rubble after an air strike in Aleppo,” she seems to have no similar sympathy for the slaughtered and maimed children of Iraq who suffered under American bombs – or the people of Yemen who have faced a prolonged aerial onslaught from Saudi Arabia using U.S. aircraft and U.S.-supplied ordnance.

Regarding Iraq, there was the case at the start of the U.S.-led war when President George W. Bush mistakenly thought Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein might be eating at a Baghdad restaurant so U.S. warplanes leveled it, killing more than a dozen civilians, including children and a young woman whose headless body was recovered by her mother.

“When the broken body of the 20-year-old woman was brought out torso first, then her head,” the Associated Press reported, “her mother started crying uncontrollably, then collapsed.” The London Independent cited this restaurant attack as one that represented “a clear breach” of the Geneva Conventions ban on bombing civilian targets.

But such civilian deaths were of little interest to the mainstream U.S. media. “American talking heads … never seemed to give the issue any thought,” wrote Eric Boehlert in a report on the U.S. war coverage for Salon.com. “Certainly they did not linger on images of the hellacious human carnage left in the aftermath.”

Thousands of other civilian deaths were equally horrific. Saad Abbas, 34, was wounded in an American bombing raid, but his family sought to shield him from the greater horror. The bombing had killed his three daughters Marwa, 11; Tabarek, 8; and Safia, 5 who had been the center of his life. “It wasn’t just ordinary love,” his wife said. “He was crazy about them. It wasn’t like other fathers.” [NYT, April 14, 2003]

The horror of the war was captured, too, in the fate of 12-year-old Ali Ismaeel Abbas, who lost his two arms when a U.S. missile struck his Baghdad home. Ali’s father, his pregnant mother and his siblings were all killed. As the armless Ali was evacuated to a Kuwaiti hospital, becoming a symbol of U.S. compassion for injured Iraqi civilians, the boy said he would rather die than live without his hands.

Because of the horrors inflicted on Iraq – and the resulting chaos that has now spread across the region and into Europe – Raddatz could have asked Clinton, who as a U.S. senator voted for the illegal war, whether she felt any responsibility for this carnage. Of course, Raddatz would not ask that question because the U.S. mainstream media was almost universally onboard the Iraq War bandwagon, which helps explain why there has been virtually no accountability for those war crimes.

Letting Clinton Off

So, Clinton was not pressed on her war judgments regarding either Iraq or the Libyan “regime change” that she championed in 2011, another war of choice that transformed the once-prosperous North African nation into a failed state. Raddatz’s biased framing also put Republican Donald Trump on the defensive for resisting yet another American “regime change” project in Syria.

Trump was left muttering some right-wing talking points that sought to attack Clinton as soft on Syria, trying to link her to President Barack Obama’s decision not to bomb the Syrian military in August 2013 after a mysterious sarin gas attack outside Damascus, which occurred six months after Clinton had resigned as Secretary of State.

Trump: “She was there as Secretary of State with the so-called line in the sand, which…

Clinton: “No, I wasn’t. I was gone. I hate to interrupt you, but at some point…

Trump: “OK. But you were in contact — excuse me. You were…

Clinton: “At some point, we need to do some fact-checking here.

Trump: “You were in total contact with the White House, and perhaps, sadly, Obama probably still listened to you. I don’t think he would be listening to you very much anymore. Obama draws the line in the sand. It was laughed at all over the world what happened.”

In bashing Obama for not bombing Syria – after U.S. intelligence expressed suspicion that the sarin attack was actually carried out by Al Qaeda or a related group trying to trick the U.S. military into attacking the Syrian government – Trump may have pleased his right-wing base but he was deviating from his generally less war-like stance on the Middle East.

He followed that up with another false right-wing claim that Clinton and Obama had allowed the Russians to surge ahead on nuclear weapons, saying:our nuclear program has fallen way behind, and they’ve gone wild with their nuclear program. Not good.”

Only after attacking Clinton for not being more militaristic did Trump say a few things that made sense, albeit in his incoherent snide-aside style.

Trump: “Now, she talks tough, she talks really tough against Putin and against Assad. She talks in favor of the rebels. She doesn’t even know who the rebels are. You know, every time we take rebels, whether it’s in Iraq or anywhere else, we’re arming people. And you know what happens? They end up being worse than the people [we overthrow].

“Look at what she did in Libya with [Muammar] Gaddafi. Gaddafi’s out. It’s a mess. And, by the way, ISIS has a good chunk of their oil. I’m sure you probably have heard that.” [Actually, whether one has heard it or not, that point is not true. During the ongoing political and military strife, Libya has been blocked from selling its oil, which is shipped by sea.]

Trump continued: “It was a disaster. Because the fact is, almost everything she’s done in foreign policy has been a mistake and it’s been a disaster.

“But if you look at Russia, just take a look at Russia, and look at what they did this week, where I agree, she wasn’t there, but possibly she’s consulted. We sign a peace treaty. Everyone’s all excited. Well, what Russia did with Assad and, by the way, with Iran, who you made very powerful with the dumbest deal perhaps I’ve ever seen in the history of deal-making, the Iran deal, with the $150 billion, with the $1.7 billion in cash, which is enough to fill up this room.

“But look at that deal. Iran now and Russia are now against us. So she wants to fight. She wants to fight for rebels. There’s only one problem. You don’t even know who the rebels are. So what’s the purpose?”

While one can’t blame Raddatz for Trump’s scattered thinking – or for Clinton’s hawkishness – the moderator’s failure to frame the Syrian issue in a factual and nuanced way contributed to this dangerously misleading “debate” on a grave issue of war and peace.

It is surely not the first time that the mainstream U.S. media has failed the American people in this way, but – given the stakes of a possible nuclear war with Russia – this propagandistic style of “journalism” is fast becoming an existential threat.

British government admits marijuana extract has medicinal effect

The British government has announced that a chemical compound found in cannabis can be considered medicinal. The compound, known as CBD, does not produce a “high,” but is said to have beneficial effects.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid which accounts for 40 percent of the marijuana plant’s extract. It does not contain the ‘high-inducing’ psychoactive THC, but is said to have the same health benefits as other forms of cannabis, according to the government’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

“We have come to the opinion that products containing cannabidiol (CBD) are a medicine,” an MHRA spokesman told The Huffington Post.

The agency found that Cannabidiol has a “restoring, correcting, or modifying” effect on “physiological functions” when administered to humans, The Independent reported. Campaigners claim the compound helps with diseases including cancer, depression, Crohn’s disease, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

MHRA stressed that any future products containing CBD “will have to meet safety, quality and effectiveness standards to protect public health.”

The body’s review of the cannabinoid followed discussions with CBD vaporizer company MediPen.

MediPen’s managing diretor, Jordan Owen, told The Independent that the company has “worked hard to obtain our goal of breaking down the negative connotations surrounding cannabis to lead to a reform in the law for medicinal use… now this is finally becoming a reality.”

It comes less than two months after a report by the All-Party Parliamentary Group of Drug Reform concluded that the refusal to recognize the medicinal value of cannabis is “irrational.” A petition in July 2015 gathered enough signatures to prompt a debate in parliament on the sale, production, and use of cannabis.

British spy powers threaten freedom of expression

Human rights groups warned the United Nations this week that a new British law allowing police to see journalists’ communications could threaten sensitive sources and the freedom of expression.

The English Pen writers association and the freedom of speech group Article 19 told the UN Human Rights Council that the Investigatory Powers Bill would jeopardize journalistic sources, particularly whistleblowers.

The Bill, which has been dubbed the “snooper’s charter” by critics, would allow British intelligence agencies and police to intercept communications between anyone in the country, including mobile phone conversations and internet records such as websites visited.

The Investigatory Powers Bill “remains vague and lacks adequate protections for freedom of expression and privacy, and if enacted will introduce broad powers that threaten to undermine these rights,” a joint letter by the organizations to the UN said.

“There is no upper limit on the number of people whose private communications may be intercepted or whose data may be collected and retained.

“In many instances, anonymity is the precondition upon which information is conveyed by a source to a journalist (or human rights organization). This may be motivated by fear of repercussions which might adversely affect their physical safety or job security. When sources cannot be sure of protection, the public loses its right to know critical information.”

The letter branded such interference with journalists’ private communications “inherently disproportionate.”

Almost 4,000 people have signed a petition launched by the industry magazine Press Gazette demanding UK Home Secretary Amber Rudd guarantee more serious protections for journalists and their sources in the Bill. The call was also supported by several British media groups, the National Union of Journalists and the News Media Association

The Bill is currently at its report stage in the House of Lords, but the English Pen and Article 19 believe it should go back for “fundamental reconsideration” by its authors.

It emerged on Monday that the new shadow attorney general Shami Chakrabarti, who just a few months ago said the Bill needed redrafting, is now planning to abstain on the vote in the Lords.

The opposition Labour Party will not be tabling amendments and is not expected to vote against the new powers.

Archaeologist denies Jewish ties to Al-Aqsa Mosque

NOVANEWS

15hillary184An Israeli archaeological expert has asserted that there is no relation between the Western Wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and an ancient Jewish temple, Al Jazeera reported today. This will likely serve to undermine Israeli excavations of the site.

Meir Ben-Dov, an Israeli archaeological expert who is author of many books about Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, further asserted that the Wailing Wall, the Jewish name for the Western Wall, has no sacred significance in the Jewish faith.

In related news, UNESCO members are expected to vote on a resolution that denies Jewish links to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Western Wall, known as the Buraq Wall to Muslims, agencies reported on Thursday.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz said that the resolution is expected to pass by a large majority, referring this to the inability of Israeli lobbying to persuade UNESCO members not to support the resolution.

“Israel has made efforts to block the resolution or at least soften it, but succeeded only in swaying the positions of a few member states,” Haaretz stated.

The Palestinian Authority, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and Sudan pushed the draft resolution forward that declares that Jerusalem is holy for all the three Abrahamic religions of Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

The draft also includes a section that stresses that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is sacred only for the Muslims, referring to it as Al-Haram Al-Sharif, or the Sacred Sanctuary.

In April, UNESCO’s executive board ratified a similar resolution, which was supported by a number of European countries, including France.

However, after a “harsh” telephone call between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and French President Francois Hollande, France promised not to support any such resolution in the future.

On the Attempts to Return North Korea to the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism

NOVANEWS

By Konstantin Asmolov

On September 29, 2016, the US Congress passed an act on Justice against Sponsors of Terrorism, overcoming the veto of Barack Obama. Although the act is mainly highlighted in the context of a possible cooling of relations between the US and Saudi Arabia, this story is also connected with yet another attempt to return North Korea to the list of countries supporting terrorism.

On September 14, the subcommittee on the Asia-Pacific region of the House Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Congress held a hearing on this matter, where speeches were given by Bruce Klingner, fellow partner of the American Heritage Foundation, Victor Cha, analyst at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and other experts who held the appropriate political orientation.Mr.Klingner, now at the Asian Studies Center of the Heritage Foundation, worked in the CIA and the DIA for 20 years, where he also managed the CIA department, which was engaged in the analysis of North Korea during the first round of the nuclear crisis back in 1993. Then, in 1996-2001, he was the Deputy Director of Department of Korea, also in the CIA. Victor Cha is also a well-known conservative and a former employee of the US administration.

Its no wonder that, in the opinion of both experts, “there are no obstacles to placing North Korea back on the list of state sponsors of terrorism as there is plenty of evidence of such activities.” Victor Cha recalled the cyberattack made by North Korean hackers on the US film company Sony Pictures, which caused damage to the company and led to the leakage of information. Klingner went even further – his understanding of terrorist activities includes “threats to ordinary people for political purposes.” This alone appears sufficient for North Korea’s inclusion in the above list of countries, which, according to the official position of the US State Department, support acts of international terrorism.

This time, the experts had the opportunity to present their thesis, but the issue was not resolved in the first attempt, although South Korean media described the process as “the United States making increasing calls for the return of North Korea to the list of countries supporting terrorism. When North Korea was excluded from the list in 2008, many disagreed, but after Pyongyang conducted its 5th nuclear test, the issue was quickly brought back on the table.” However, if these actions bear any fruit, we will gain an impressive example of how the principle of official enemy classification works, where compliance with the formal criteria does not matter.

Normally a “sponsor of terrorism” is a state “assisting international terrorists by supplying weapons, providing bases, shelter or protection from punishment, or financing or organizing their training, provision of intelligence information, and providing other forms of assistance and support.” A more detailed explanation of “supporting terrorism” is as follows:

  • Regular supply of weapons, money or other material resources to terrorists, without which their terrorist activity would not be so effective.
  • Giving terrorists political support – from information campaigns in their favour to granting territory for training camps or bases, from which a terrorist organization can fight against a third country.
  • The leading and guiding role of any political organization as it operates in the direct interest of the said country; it is important to note that in this case we are talking about a direct confirmed link, rather than indirect benefits, when the actions of terrorists simply aid a particular country, but have no control or support.
  • Actual terrorist activities undertaken by the state intelligence, should it actually be engaged in terrorism, and not in diversion; these terms are somewhat different, in terms of the “target audience” because in the event of war, a large part of what is called a terrorist attack is regarded as “diversion”, an acceptable part of war aimed at the destruction of the enemy’s military or their property, including behind enemy lines.

Sometimes, in terms of state terrorism, a single situation can be highlighted, in which state intelligence agencies purposefully hunt for dissidents around the world: Again, it should be not a single or “excessive act,” but the systematic and proven practice of political assassinations in the territory of third countries.

As you can see, cyber attacks or vague threats are not included in this list. Thus, the fact that the notorious cyber attack on Sony Pictures as a major reason for inclusion in the list is Very Peculiar indeed.

First, too many experts confirm that the attack was impossible without an insider. Moreover, the author heard news that this insider had already been found and the suggestions of DPRK involvement are based on rather shaky assumptions about the use of certain software.

Second, even if we assume that the attack was mastered by Pyongyang, it was not intended to damage vital facilities. Unlike, for example, the actions of Styxnet, which caused real accidents at work. If North Korean hackers had caused an explosion at a nuclear power plant, or at least a large-scale blackout that incurred victims, destruction and serious economic damage, then this type of cyber-terrorist attack could be called a terrorist attack. But in the case of Sony there was no destruction to important information, the hackers simply dumped what they found online.

Third, if actions similar to the Sony attack are now considered not just hacking, but actually terrorism, then we are faced with a precedent which can be regarded as a double-edged sword. It will mean that the activities undertaken by Assange, Snowden, and the notorious hacks of the second half of 2016 related to the US presidential campaign are all terrorist attacks. Should we now put the United States and a number of other countries on the list of state sponsors of terrorism on the basis of exactly the same logic?

In response to the accusations, supporters of returning the DPRK to the list retaliate by saying that the North was removed from it purely for political reasons, and it is time to simply restore justice. Alas, this argument is also incorrect.

Yes, there were times when North Korean actions could be regarded as a terrorist attack, but even the basic, most well-known stories about it are only half truths. Let’s recall them.

A group of commandos attack the Blue House in 1968 – this is a well-known and proven fact. Just like the failed attempt at a response made by South Korea, which became the plot of the film “Silmido”.

Attempted homicide of Park Chung-hee in 1974, when his wife was killed. There has been no link found between the murderer and North Korean secret services. It is known that he was a Japanese Korean and belonged to a left-wing organization, but the most probable version is a non-affiliated terrorist. Generally, this story has a lot of grey areas linked with how an armed murderer managed to get into the closed session.

Attempted homicide of Chun Doo-hwan in 1983 in Burma – this is a fact. The man detained by the Burmese authorities gave confessions. Incidentally, after that Burma broke off diplomatic relations with North Korea.

The explosion of a South Korean plane in 1987, after which North Korea was put on the list – this is an extremely unclear story. We only have the testimony of a single witness who repented, was amnestied and then disappeared. Conspiracy theories put forward a provocation by the North Korean secret services, another version has it as a Japanese Korean girl from among the terrorists struck a deal with the investigation team and pretended to be a North Korean spy and then gave a politically correct testimony.

After that North Korea has not undertaken any actions that could be construed as terrorist support: North Korea’s involvement in the death of Yi Han-yong remained unconfirmed, and the story of the assassination attempt on Park Sang-hak was basically turned into a spectacle and cast the self-proclaimed “Dissident No.1″ in a bad light when the “specialist with poisoned needles” turned out to be an ordinary acupuncturist.

The answer is simple – the return of North Korea to the list will not only add to the demonization of the country, but also significantly increase the pressure of sanctions, which the opponents of Pyongyang actively strive for. Putting Pyongyang back on the list of state sponsors of terrorism will close off Pyongyang’s access to financial assistance from international organizations such as the IMF and the Asian Development Bank. And this is why the enemies of the DPRK will continue to misuse their own definitions, discrediting the very concept of the fight against state supported terrorist organizations.
