Trump calls media ‘enemy of the American people’ – first step on road to totalitarian dictatorship?

NOVANEWS

In four weeks, Trump has seen his national security advisor ousted, a cabinet nominee withdraw, a centerpiece immigration policy fail in the courts and a tidal wave of damaging leaks.

[Editor’s note: I kept telling you, over and over, that Trump was going to be an awful, disastrous farce of a president and now I defy anyone to tell me I was wrong. Only a month has passed since the unthinkable happened and the orange one slithered his way into the White House, but already we can see with certainty that the buffoon clearly hasn’t got a clue how to run the country or how to act in a manner befitting the POTUS. Instead he acts like a overgrown child playing fascist dictator and anyone who dares criticise in any way, shape or form will become the recipient of yet another in the long unbroken string of purile, childish and blatantly dishonest tweets to issue forth from the tiny child-like hands of the pussy grabber.

He probably isn’t smart enough to realise the psychological aspects of what he’s doing, but in calling the US media ‘the enemy of the American people’ Trump is applying reverse psychology. In layman’s terms, the pot is calling the kettle black. Of course, it is Trump himself and his coterie of Israeli-controlled kapos like Bannon and Kushner who are the real enemy of the American people.

It seems to me that the ‘bloviating sleazebag’ as one of my wittier friends refers to him, has decided (or rather, has been ‘advised’) to make the US media the first target in his assault on the remaining freedoms and rights of the US people. The intention appears to be to destroy the media as a first step towards the creation of a totalitarian police state. We have seen other signs of attempts to follow such an agenda, such as the proposal to send 100,000 National Guard troops in to oppose local law enforcement.

Hitler used the burning of the Reichstag to carry out his seizure of power and impose a totalitarian police state, whether Hitler ordered the burning or not is still open to debate, but regardless, he took full advantage. Trump and his closest advisors/handlers, Bannon and Kushner, are almost certainly planning a major false flag to serve as their Reichstag fire – an event that gives them justification for imposing their own version of a totalitarian police state. The organs of such a state are already in place – the DHS, FBI and CIA, all utterly corrupt and downright criminal, are primed and ready to become a modern day Gestapo, the police have been militarised, the FEMA camps are ready to host dissenters and the paid agitators are in place ready to turn any lawful, peaceful protest into a riot; it is all pretty clear to anyone who has studied the rise of fascism in the 1930s.

Trump probably plans to destroy the US media, to shut down large portions and bring the remainder under strict state control, doubtless under the purview of a modern equivalent to the Propaganda Ministry of Joseph Goebbels.

All of this is very bad for the US people, but for me, an Englishman living half a world away, the real worry is that the last time a major power became a totalitarian fascist dictatorship, it plunged the entire world into a war that killed untold tens of millions and left the world divided and destabilised, locked in a decades long cold war.

Hitler ignited WWII in Europe by marching into Czechoslovakia and Poland, Trump has maybe already given us a hint of how he will start WWIII when he talked of sending US troops into Mexico to get rid of some ‘bad hombres’. Then there are the NATO moves to increase forces in both the Black and Baltic seas, the build-up of NATO ground forces in Poland and Lithuania, to say nothing of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the Trump rhetoric about Crimea. No doubt, the situation is becoming increasingly primed and dangerous, I wonder if the commentators had the same uneasy feeling back in 1938 that I and my colleagues have today. Ian]

Trump calls media ‘enemy of the American people’

Donald Trump ratcheted up his attacks on the media Friday, blasting the press as “the enemy of the American people!”

Shortly after landing at his holiday home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida — where he is spending a third consecutive weekend — the president lashed out in 140 characters.

“The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Trump had tweeted an earlier post which targeted the New York Times, CNN, NBC “and many more” media — and ended with the exclamation “SICK!”

But he swiftly deleted that missive before reposting the definitive version — adding two more “enemies” to his blacklist.

The 70-year-old Trump built his campaign on criticizing the press as biased. In addition to regularly accusing the media of overstating his setbacks, he has also accused journalists of failing to show sufficient respect for his accomplishments.

On Thursday, he launched a long diatribe at a grievance-filled news conference, in which he blamed the media for his one-month-old administration’s problems.

Many US presidents have criticized the press, but Trump’s language has more closely echoed remarks leveled by authoritarian leaders around the world.

His comments had some observers declaring that the Republican was veering dangerously close to infringing on the constitutionally protected freedom of the press.

“I love that part of the 1st Amendment that declares the press the enemy of the American people,” conservative commentator S.E. Cupps wrote on Twitter, adding the hashtag “TrumpsAmerica.”

Ben Rhodes, a top advisor to former president Barack Obama, called Trump’s criticism of the media “a gift to authoritarians everywhere — will discredit any US efforts to support freedom of the press globally.”

Many reporters were taken aback by Thursday’s press conference, described by some as bizarre, but Trump echoed the words of praise he got from one rightwing commentator and insisted the outing had been a bravura performance.

“‘One of the most effective press conferences I’ve ever seen!’ says Rush Limbaugh. Many agree. Yet FAKE MEDIA calls it differently! Dishonest,” Trump wrote on Twitter about an hour after the earlier tweet.

Trump declared during the news conference: “Much of the media in Washington, DC — along with New York, Los Angeles, in particular — speaks not for the people but for the special interests and for those profiting off a very, very obviously broken system.

“The press has become so dishonest that if we don’t talk about, we are doing a tremendous disservice to the American people. Tremendous disservice. We have to talk to find out what’s going on, because the press honestly is out of control. The level of dishonesty is out of control.”

Trump’s campaign website and the Republican Party on Thursday posted a “Mainstream Media Accountability Survey,” asking respondents questions such as: “On which issues does the mainstream media do the worst job of representing Republicans?”

It also asks whether the GOP should spend “more time and resources” holding the media accountable.

It’s not known what it will take — or if it’s even possible — for Trump to plug the leaks in his administration, but an ally on Capitol Hill stepped in Friday to help.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes has asked the FBI to investigate the leaks, Politico reported, citing three sources familiar with his request.

Americans protesters chant “Bibi go home” as Naziyahu visits US

NOVANEWS

Americans have staged demonstrations in Washington, DC, and Boston to protest Israel’s policies after its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with President Donald Trump at the White House.

[Editor’s note: Hundreds of Jewish New Yorkers  joined the Muslim-Jewish Solidarity March in New York City, Wednesday, to demonstrate their support to all those people affected by the policies of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who held meetings in Washington DC the same day.

Protesters gathered in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Station, and then took to the city’s streets, chanting and holding signs and banners demanding the immediate end of the occupation of Palestine, denouncing Islamophobia, and claiming “No Ban, No Wall”.

It is well worth listening to the full speech of Rabbi Jacobowitz at the Mass Jewish Protest in front of the White House, especially for those who fail to differentiate between the evil, extremist Zionists who are more secular than Jewish and the great majority of Jews, especially the religious Jews.

As the Rabbi points out, world Jewry does not support Israel and it’s actions that violate the cornerstones of Judaism, he condemns the IDF as an ‘immoral army’ and the actions of Israel towards it’s own citizens and neighbours.

The Rabbi’s own words convey the real situation in stark and blunt terms and should be carefully noted:

Benjamin Netanyahu and the Zionist establishment does not represent the Jewish nation and the Jewish people. Netanyahu and his ilk, they do represent the evil, they do represent the wicked, Netanyahu and his government represent brutality, they represent aggression and bloodshed; they represent the greatest international security threat to human society.

The Trump administration is going to be opposed by more and more of these peaceful mass demonstrations and protests and I wholeheartedly encourage this. The best way to oppose this regime that seeks to conquer and divide the US by sowing Islamophobia and inter-ethnic hatred is by peaceful mass uprising – become ungovernable and the government must fall.

Once Trump has fallen, Bibi must be next on the hit list as he represents, in the words of Rabbi Jacobowitz “the greatest international security threat to human society.” Ian]

Americans protesters chant “Bibi go home” as Netanyahu visits US

On Wednesday afternoon, hundreds of people, including a number of Orthodox Jewish activists, held demonstrations near the White House and the Trump International Hotel in Washington to protest against Netanyahu’s visit to the US, the Middle East Eye news website reported.

They also voiced opposition to the illegal settlements Israel is building on the occupied Palestinian land and to Trump’s campaign promise to move the US embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem al-Quds. In addition, they protested against the choice of David Friedman as US ambassador to Israel.

Many protesters were chanting “Bibi go home!” as the DC Metro Police watched them from their patrol cars.

“It’s our position that it is not in America’s best interest to have Friedman as an ambassador because he’s biased,” Kristin Szremski, the media director for American Muslims for Palestine, told Middle East Eye. “It’s not good for Americans because it will hurt our credibility with our global partners, and it’s not good for Palestinians because he supports annexation, and he supports moving the embassy to Jerusalem, which will only inflame tensions in the Muslim and Arab world.”

In downtown Boston, dozens of protesters first held a demonstration in front of Government Center on Wednesday afternoon but then marched towards the Israeli consulate’s office in the city, according to the Boston Globe.

They also protested against Israel’s illegal settlements and the possibility of the Trump administration moving the US embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem al-Quds.

In addition, the demonstrators protested against Trump’s plan to build a wall along the Mexican border and his controversial temporary ban on immigrants and refugees from seven Muslim-majority countries.

“Simply because of my religion, I am denied entry to the city where I grew up for the first 13 years of my life,” Yamila Shannan, 45, said as she addressed the protesters.

Trump has said he is “thinking seriously” about moving the country’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem al-Quds.

The new US president has also signaled that the United States, under his administration, would be far more tolerant of the illegal Israeli settlement construction.

More than half a million Israelis live in over 230 illegal settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds.

The continued expansion of Israeli settlements has created a major obstacle for the efforts to establish peace in the Middle East.

Trump said last week Israel’s construction of illegal settlements is not a good thing but “I don’t want to condemn Israel.”

He made the remarks in an interview with Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, ahead of Netanyahu’s visit to the White House.

“They (settlements) don’t help the process. I can say that,” he told the pro-Netanyahu daily. “There is so much land left. And every time you take land for settlements, there is less land left. But we are looking at that, and we are looking at some other options we’ll see. But no, I am not somebody that believes that going forward with these settlements is a good thing for peace.”

Trump transition team attempted to block UN settlement resolution

NOVANEWS

The resolution passed on December 23, 2016, when 14 out of the 15 voting members of the Council voted in favor of the resolution.

[Editor’s note: As this report shows, Trump’s team of Zionist stooges, lead by Israeli assets Bannon and Kushner, were trying to further the Zionist Israeli agenda before they even took office. Considering this week’s meeting between Trump and Netanyahu excluded almost everyone else in the US government other than Bannon and Kushner, it can be taken as a given that the agenda for that meeting was almost exclusively Zionist. Report: Trump transition team attempted to block UN settlement resolution

As the US prepared to abstain from UN security council resolution 2334 in December 2016, the transition team of US President Donald Trump, who was just over a month from taking office, including then planned national security advisor Michael Flynn, worked to block the vote, Foreign Policy reported Friday.

Foreign Policy stated that on the day of the UNSC vote the Trump’s transition team requested the contact info of ambassadors and foreign ministers of countries that are members of the Security Council.

A former State Department official said that the request was ultimately denied, citing a fear that the transition team would harm diplomatic aspirations.

One US official spoke to Foreign Policy stating that Nikki Haley, who Trump had already chosen to serve as the US ambassador to the UN, even attempted to reach Samantha Power. Power, who was at the time US ambassador to the UN, did note take Haley’s call.

Michael Flynn also called multiple country’s ambassadors to the UNSC, in an attempt to persuade them.

The resolution passed on December 23, 2016, when 14 out of the 15 voting members of the Council voted in favor of the resolution, none voted against it, and the United States chose to abstain instead of casting its veto on the initiative.

At the time of the vote Trump came out squarely against it, saying the resolution “should be vetoed.”

“As the United States has long maintained, peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians will only come through direct negotiations between the parties, and not through the imposition of terms by the United Nations. This puts Israel in a very poor negotiating position, and is extremely unfair to all Israelis,” Trump said in a statement.

For several months, as the possibility of an anti-settlement resolution was being discussed, the question remained whether or not former president Barack Obama – an ardent opponent of the settlements – would use the US veto in the Security Council to shield Israel from it. In the days before the vote, there was a sense in Jerusalem that he would not do so.

That sense was broadcast by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who tweeted that “the US should veto the anti-Israel resolution,” and issued an even sharper statement again just before the Egyptians announced that they were pulling back the resolution.

“Israelis deeply appreciate one of the great pillars of the US-Israel alliance: the willingness over many years for the US to stand up in the UN and veto anti-Israel resolutions,” he said. “I hope the US won’t abandon this policy; I hope it will abide by the principles set by President Obama himself in his speech in the UN in 2011: that peace will come not through UN resolutions, but only through direct negotiations between the parties.”

The Global War on Terrorism from Two Perspectives

NOVANEWS

Understanding the Global War on Terrorism from the perspective of the Militarist, the Mythic perspective, and the Rationalist, the sensory perspective

The Militarist (Mythic) Perspective:

A Preemptive War* to combat terrorism, uphold American values, defend freedoms, and to fulfill a sacred and noble responsibility to liberate and bring democracy (and Christianity?) to the oppressed peoples of the world.

The Rationalist (Sensory) Perspective:

A Preventive War** initiated and sustained by multiple Presidential Administrations; enabled and financed by a rubber stamp and spineless Congress, many of whom continue to influence policy and decisions of state despite their ineptitude and errors in judgment; orchestrated by the Defense Department’s arrogant and headstrong civilian leadership who consistently ignored the lessons of history and the advice of many military and civilian experts.

• The implementation of the misguided strategy of Full-Spectrum Dominance conceptualized by The Project for the New American Century (PNAC)*** that destabilized the Greater Middle East creating what Hillary Clinton referred to in the second primary debate as the Arc of Instability for which she must bear a measure of responsibility.

• The invasion and occupation of sovereign nations based upon contrived and/or faulty intelligence, deception, and lies; characterized by huge corporate profits and tax cuts for the wealthy; in defiance of the objections and protestations of many long time allies and a significant proportion of its own citizenry; acquiesced to by a compliant corporate mainstream press and media.

• A war of aggression in violation of International Law, numerous Treaties, Conventions, and the Constitution of the United States; fought by children who lacked “other priorities” and influential families, as part of a compliant and dedicated military, inadequate in strength of numbers and disgracefully ill-equipped, many of whom were ill-prepared National Guardsmen, Guardswomen, and Reservists, the rest overtaxed by multiple deployments, misled and deceived into believing their sacrifices to be in behalf of freedom and a necessary response to the heinous attacks of September 11th.

• The American Imperial Project the intent of which was to establish a Pax Americana (the American Empire) but instead substantially increased terrorism in the world, created the largest humanitarian crisis since World War II, prompting the closing of American borders to fleeing refugees; costing thus far approximately $ 5 trillion in treasure, 6,852 American lives, 4 million Muslim lives, 52,448 American injured, an additional 320,000 suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury, 400,000 more with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; all in the name of a generally apathetic and ill-informed citizenry.

*Preemptive War: a war initiated to repel or defeat a real and imminent threat, offensive, or invasion shortly before that attack materializes.
**Preventive War: (also termed the Bush Doctrine) a war initiated without real and imminent provocation therefore lacking justification, in response to an anticipated, though unsubstantiated (perhaps delusional and/or contrived) future threat.
***The Project for the New American Century is an American neoconservative think tank, whose members included many people who served in various capacities of government during the George W. Clinton Bastin: Nuclear Weapon Iran a Falsehood

NOVANEWS

We have come a long way on the Iran nuclear story

U.S. Assessments of nuclear weapon threats: A major problem

“If all went well, Iran could have a nuclear weapon in about ten years that could be delivered by a truck or large airplane but not an Iranian missile.” …by Clinton Bastin, for Veterans Today

– Editor’s Update … February 18, 2017 –

Clinton Bastin in his prime

[ Editor’s Note: We are rerunning this as a victory lap for VT, to honor Clinton Bastin again, and to show that neither Donald Trump nor any of his people have read any of the VT coverage on the first debunked Iran nuclear hoax.

Clinton Bastin died in 2014, a great loss of a great man who never wandered from his true compass heading, and that included not being on board for hoaxing the American public about nonexistent threats, which were being used to benefit certain segments of the American political and military industrial complex.

At the end he was only, totally abandoned by all in the U.S. nuclear community that he had worked with, because he exposed how they all went along with our government’s lying about the nonexistent nuclear weapons program. Being old school, his main “weapon” was sending letters to the editor to the NY Times, and they did publish some of his highlights. The FBI asked him to always send them copies when they went in which we did.

When I discovered him in my back yard here in Atlanta, then began a series of briefings on his 40 years, starting with the Atomic Energy Commission and ending with the Department of Energy. It was one hell of an education, and took a long time to cover.

Our thanks was to share what we learned from him with our readers in a number of articles, and quoting him as a source on a number of nuclear-related issues; and we will continue to do so, like we do with all the other great VT sources that have passed on, and more than a few not from natural causes. You find a number of them in the In Memoriam section at the bottom of the Editors and Staff page.

Neither Clinton Bastin nor VT has ever been challenged by anyone with standing on any aspect that we have published on the Iran nuclear weapons hoax. Official government people knew we would just offer to do a recorded two-hour debate, which to date “they” have never wanted to do.

And yes, Clinton was a WWII-era Marine officer, going in just at the end, so he was always stateside. He was one of the best we had, and he will always be with us here at VT, as our 35,000+ articles are safely stored on a number of backup servers, including overseas ones Jim W. Dean ]

– Originally published January 7, 2011 –

The United States makes false claims of nuclear weapon threats in other nations because US government officials and others do not understand nuclear materials’ and weapons’ production technology and are unwilling to rely on information from those who do.

They also do not appreciate the importance of nuclear power to reduce use of fossil fuels. Virtually all information about nuclear weapons from US officials, news media and others is wrong. False claims of nuclear weapon threats from important, fully safeguarded nuclear power programs such as those in Iran

  • undermine international safeguards the only assurance nations have that their neighbors are not making nuclear weapons;
  • lead to dangerous conflicts between nations;
  • preclude effective negotiations to resolve conflicts and disagreements;
  • deter and delay nuclear power needed for transition from overuse of oil.

The IAEA has been in Iran constantly, but never in Israel

All US nuclear programs for production of nuclear weapons were managed by chemical companies and directed by US government chemical engineers. These engineers would meet each year to prepare top secret nuclear weapon production schedules that would be signed by The President to authorize production of all the weapons that could be made – needed or not.

They would also meet with managers, scientists and engineers of weapons’ laboratories to learn about advanced weapon designs. Some of these engineers made assessments for national security agencies of weapon threats from nuclear programs in other nations and directed US nonproliferation initiatives. They also provided for use by IAEA inspectors lists of equipment and processes that might – or might not – indicate weapon-related activities, which has greatly compounded the problem.

All chemical companies who managed and all chemical engineers who directed nuclear weapon programs have left the DOE. Despite highest priority and available information that should have been used for success, the DOE in 1992 failed its mission to build a new reactor to produce nuclear materials for defense, space exploration and other important national programs. It subsequently lost ability to produce these materials.

The DOE also lost ability to accurately assess nuclear weapon threats. Scientists in non government institutes and others who do not understand basic concepts of nor the technology to produce nuclear weapons provide information to the news media about nuclear weapons.

David Albright

David Albright, a physicist, former colleague, president of the non government Institute for Science and International Security in Washington and a former consultant for IAEA inspectors, is recognized by the US news media as an expert on nuclear weapons but is not. I called David several months ago to correct inaccurate information attributed to him by New York Times reporter William J. Broad.

I also mentioned that Pakistan probably did not have many nuclear weapons because gun-type weapons require about 100 pounds of highly enriched uranium. David said that he had seen drawings of Pakistan’s weapons and they had solid cores but were implosion, not gun-type. With that statement, I realized that David did not understand basic concepts of nuclear weapons.

Iran’s plans and commitment for fully safeguarded nuclear power began in 1970 when the United States, then Iran’s important ally, lost the ability to recover enough oil to meet demands. Leaders of both nations recognized that world ability to recover enough oil to meet world demands would be lost in a few decades unless there were major reductions in use. Iran signed the Nonproliferation Treaty, ordered five large nuclear power plants from US vendors and was promised (inappropriate) reprocessing technology by the US Department of State.

The plans were interrupted when President Richard Nixon upheld the Atomic Energy Commission decision to deny promised technology. Iran cancelled the nuclear power plant orders with US vendors and ordered them from France and Germany, who agreed to supply needed technology.

The Islamic Revolution interrupted Iran’s plans again, but not its recognition of the importance of nuclear power. Iran’s first nuclear power plant, built with Russian help in the southern port city of Bushehr, is almost ready to begin operation

Because of the past denial of promised nuclear fuel cycle technology, Iran is understandably reluctant to rely on another nation for continuous supply of low enriched uranium needed for nuclear fuel.

Iran’s leaders know that any action toward building a bomb would be quickly known by the world and justify a military attack on important nuclear power facilities. They also know that a nuclear weapon would be of no value for Iran’s security or other interests and have clearly stated their intent not to build one.

To make a nuclear weapon, Iran would begin by diverting at least two tons of low enriched uranium hexaflouride gas from fully safeguarded, carefully measured inventories. Other nations would know about the diversion, which would be easily and quickly detected by International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors. If any nuclear facilities survived the certain attack, Iran would try to further enrich the gas. But these facilities are not configured for higher enrichment and had earlier processing problems.

If further enrichment was successful, the most dangerous and difficult operations would begin. The highly enriched uranium gas would be converted to metal and weapon components would be fabricated and assembled with high explosives for a weapon. These processes have never been used in Iran and facilities for their use almost certainly do not exist.

Potential for a deadly criticality accident in each operation is high. Assembling metal components with high explosives could result in a nuclear explosion unless done with great care. The final step would be providing heavy containment to obtain a significant yield.

If all went well, Iran could have a nuclear weapon in about ten years that could be delivered by a truck or large airplane but not an Iranian missile.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Consul-General Reda Mansour in Atlanta, US officials and others have been told about the long time and difficulties Iran would encounter with an attempt to build a nuclear weapon. Israel’s leaders have stopped making threats against Iran’s nuclear power facilities, but US political leaders, news media and others continue to support sanctions against Iran’s nuclear power programs that will be of no value but will prevent cooperation with Iran to resolve problems and end conflicts and terrorism in the Middle East.

United States and United Nations officials should:

  • explain to all nations that Iran’s nuclear power programs are not a nuclear weapon threat;
  • encourage leaders of Iran, Israel and Arab nations to form a multinational corporation to operate a regional facility in Iran to supply low enriched uranium for nuclear power in the Middle East;
  • provide technical assistance to assure safe and successful enrichment facility operation.

A final note: The inability of the DOE to produce nuclear materials and assess nuclear weapon threats in other nations is one of many adverse consequences of U.S. reliance, unique in the world, on a large, politically-dominated federal department to direct and manage policies and programs for complex nuclear and energy technology that is vital to its citizens’ economic well-being. Changes should be made based on lessons learned from experiences with nuclear and energy technology since 1942.
