Russian Engineers Develop New Surveillance, Missile Defense Airships

Atlant 30

Sputnik/Moscow: Russian engineers are designing new advanced airships which may become a potent element of the country’s anti-ballistic missile defenses.

On May 6, 1937, the German passenger airship Hindenburg crashed in the US during a docking attempt, dealing a critical blow to the public’s faith in this method of transportation. And yet despite the fact that mankind has since perfected other methods of airborne transportation, blimps and dirigibles are still being used for a variety of purposes including military ones, and Russian Armed Forces are no exception.

Airships have a considerable number of advantages: they can carry a considerable amount of payload over vast distances without landing; they can stay in the air for far greater periods of time than aircraft and helicopters and spend a lot less fuel in the process; and they’re very reliable. Also, airships don’t require runways for launch.
They do have their drawbacks, of course, as airships are much slower than aircraft (top speed up to 160 kilometers per hour) and have low maneuverability.

In 2015 Vladimir Mikheev, advisor to the first deputy head of Radio-Electronic Technologies Concern (KRET), revealed that the company started working on a new type of airship that may well become a full-fledged component of Russia’s early warning system.

“The distinct advantage of an airship is its large surface area where you can install antennas. These locators could track ICBM launches and warhead trajectories. KRET is developing the electronic ‘payload’ while the airship itself is being designed by Augur-RosAeroSystems,” Mikheev told RIA Novosti.

The new multifunctional airship, Atlant-30, is expected to make its first flight in 2018. The airship will be able to carry up to 170 tons of payload and operate at altitudes up to 10,000 meters, allowing it to detect enemy warheads at the boost and final stages of their flight trajectories.

Furthermore, the airship’s high cargo capacity – Atlant’s largest modification is expected to be able to airlift up to 3 fully-equipped T-90 main battle tanks or 8 BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles – make it a capable transport carrier.

High Altitude Airship 'Berkut'
High Altitude Airship ‘Berkut’

Augur-RosAeroSystems is also developing another airship, Berkut, which may become a potent communication and surveillance tool. Equipped with advanced solar panels and energy conservation systems, Berkut is expected to operate at 20-23 kilometer altitudes for up to four months without landing.

Berkut’s primary goal will be aerial photography, surveillance and communication, but the airship could also be employed for more militant pursuits like electronic warfare, target designation and air defense.

It should be noted that stratosphere airships may become a cheap and efficient replacement for communication satellites, both civilian and military, as a blimp soaring at an altitude of 20 kilometers can provide communication coverage at 760-kilometer radius.

NWO Thugs and Satanists: The Greatest Threat on Earth Is…Russia!

Perhaps it is time for Graham to stop being an Israeli marionette. Perhaps it is time for him to submit his will to the moral order, not to the policies of the Israeli regime.

You simply cannot make this stuff up at all. NWO agents like Lindsey Graham and James Comey are still propounding the politically incoherent statement that Russia is the “greatest threat of any nation on Earth”! Why?

Well, Graham and Comey would like to tell us again that Russia hacked the United States and therefore “represents a threat to our democratic process.”[1] America, according to this view, would do nothing of the sort. We’re the good guys. And good guys respect the law and follow international laws. Russia is undemocratic. Russia is evil. As Graham put it last year,

“I don’t understand how any candidate to be leader of the free world could praise Putin, who’s a thug and an autocratic dictator.”[2]

So, Graham actually believes that we should hit Russia really hard for allegedly violating the sovereignty of the United States. 2017, says Graham, “is going to be a year of kicking Russia in the ass in Congress. If you’re worried that we’re not going to look long and hard at what Russia did in our election because Trump won and Republicans are in charge, you don’t need to worry about that. We are. Because if we don’t, it could be the Chinese or Iranians next, it could be the Republicans next time.”[3]

The problem with that stupid idea is that Graham cannot universalize it. Immanuel Kant could have helped Graham here, but Graham is obviously not interested in applying practical reason in the political landscape; Graham is interested in following the dictates of the Israeli regime, which are essentially diabolical and anti-reason.

Graham will never address the fact that the United States has attacked more than a dozen countries after World War II alone. Graham does not want to talk about the fact that it was the United States and Israel that actually created stuxnet, the virus that hacked Iranian computers.[4]

The real problem is that Russia has really screwed people like Graham up when it comes to the situation in Syria. Graham wants regime change in Syria,[5] but Russia is looking for peaceful resolutions.[6] This is Graham at his best:

“Here’s what I think Assad’s telling Trump by flying from this base: ‘F you.’ And I think he’s making a serious mistake.”[7]

Referencing World War II, the psychopath declared: “ISIS should be Germany, and Assad should be Japan.”[8] In response to Graham’s diabolical ideology in the Middle East, Pat Buchanan wrote back in 2013,

“The true friends of America are those seeking to keep us out of wars, not those maneuvering us in.”[9]

Perhaps it is time for Graham to stop being an Israeli marionette. Perhaps it is time for him to submit his will to the moral order, not to the policies of the Israeli regime.

InfoWars: More Than Simply Fake

Alex Jones – One of the biggest puppets in media history. Congratulations Mr. Bronfman.

by Gordon Duff,  VT Sr. Editor   … with New Eastern Outlook, Moscow

Alex Jones took fake news into the stratosphere. “Yellow Journalism” is the only thing it can be compared to

[ Editor’s Note: Gordon takes another opportunity to chew on Alex Jones and his record of media fraud that runs off the charts. This story is not so much that Jones has done what he has, but that all of his media “competition” just sat back and watched it happen without saying a word – except for VT.

We got into Jones’ shorts quickly by using the tried-and-true journalism tool of looking into where his money was coming from. It did not take long… We found the usual suspects with very deep pockets, no big surprise there.

But as the years went by, and he somehow survived one debacle of a story after another, we began to ask, how could such a “fake news” platform survive without traditional media gutting and goring it in public while millions cheered on?

The answer is due again to the usual suspects. Such “interference” is not allowed into their operations. Although we have been on Jones’ butt for years now, the phone never rang once from traditional media wanting to feature us, even to have us take the lead and the heat, while they were just covering the story which Jones had already put out.

Jade Helm turned into a three-ring circus, with the goal of tainting alternative media as a bunch of loons so the public would tune it out

But the calls never came, not even off the record ones, from traditional media. We do get them from the Intel community from time to time, who monitors us closely to keep tabs on what corporate media is not covering and why. We are known for reporting what no one else will.

For example, the military thanked us for going after the Jade Helm crowd who had actually gone so far as to advocate “self defense”, “preemptive strikes on Army personnel during their usual summer maneuvers.

I loved Jones in a way, because he was the perfect satire foil for my “You just can’t make this shit up” (YJCMTSU). Not only did he do it, but Jones gave us the on-steroids version, while obviously having patrons powerful enough to make mass media stand down from discrediting him.

Compare all this silliness to Trump (depending on the day), Tillerson and McMaster declaring that Russia is our biggest threat; and contemplate what a sad state we are in, with people this stupid or cowardly in charge of our security. They are, in effect, running their own version of a “Jade Helm” scam on us, knowing that millions will just lap it up without question.

It is a disgrace that runs off the scales. If anyone thinks I have some bias here, you are correct. I do, and wear it proudly, as does Gordon. And it is why Jim Fetzer got booted out of here like a 70-yard field goal, when he actually thought he was going to use VT’s rep to promote the Jade-Helm hoax, simply because he wanted all the controversy attention.

The “make it up” niche has become a huge industry, one that I fear is going to be with us for some time. Even the big social network “fake news” cleaning efforts are being seen now as tools to censor alternative media by tagging it all as fake newsJim W. Dean ]

These are the whisky vault storage facilities which Alex Jones Jade Helm loons claimed would be used for mass corpse storage.

–  First published  …  May 06,  2017  –

The month was August, the year 2015. In response to an announcement by the US Department of Defense that a military exercise was planned for that summer, one that would have personnel “blending in with the local population,” a strange video was posted.  My expose is all that remains:

It described massive and foreboding warehouses, terrifying black buildings that were “thrown up overnight.” The video described them as warehouses for storing coffins for the hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions to be executed by the US Army in the upcoming “Jade Helm” exercise.

The video was prepared by the InfoWars organization and narrated by Dahboo77, whose audience is larger than any television network.

VT uncovered the Jade Helm scam in about an hour. Here are the whiskey barrels inside the aging warehouses

Based on these warehouses for “the dead” and the closing of five Walmart stores reputed to be built over secret prisons connected with underground tunnels, the governor of the state of Texas, Gregg Abbot, assigned state controlled military forces to follow and control the US Army and prevent the mass killings of millions, as proven by the underground tunnels and “warehouses for the dead.”

These government warehouses, “thrown up overnight” and located “in the backwoods of Kentucky” were no stranger to many Americans. The secret location that pushed Governor Abbot to an armed confrontation with Washington is called Star Hill” in Loretto, Kentucky. Some had already visited these facilities, as described by Infowars as being “thrown up overnight.”

They are the aging warehouses of Makers Mark Whisky, and have been visited by hundreds of thousands of people for over a hundred years as part of the “Bourbon Trail.” The secret prisons and tunnels were never found though Governor Abbot send armed teams looking for them.

The confrontation with Washington became so severe that several regular guests on the Infowars network broadcast directions for making chemical weapons and suggested their use against members of the military stationed in Texas and their families. For those unaware, the US Army is the largest employer in Texas and accounts for 250,000 jobs there, both uniform services and civilian.

In 2016, this same organization, Infowars, fabricated a story about a Washington DC pizza restaurant that kept children enslaved in secret underground prisons. Former National Security Advisor to President Trump, General Michael Flynn and his son, Michael Flynn Jr., spread the story on network media, in fact Michael Flynn Jr., Chief of Staff to General Flynn, still repeats this very odd tale.

Low self-esteem Edgar Welch nuts out on Alex Jones’ Jade Helm. Fortunately he did not kill anyone

On December 8, 2016, Edgar Welch, 28 of North Carolina, in response to Infowars and the Flynn accusations, entered the restaurant while firing a military type assault rifle into the walls and ceiling. Welch was looking for the basement Flynn had said was full of sexually abused children. There was no basement. Flynn, to this day, continues telling the story and we await a new Edgar Welch.

There is a reason we are telling this story, several in fact. According to Donald Trump, everything on Infowars is true and the US government now bases its policies, not all but certainly some, on these stories. And the world thought Governor Abbot was a total idiot and embarrassment, little did we know what was heading our way. Now for context. When we are done, the idea of the US lobbing rockets into Syria based on an internet rumor will be totally understandable.

America’s scandal sheets are filled with photos of Alex Jones of Infowars, describing him as a cult leader, bigot and racist. A year ago, he could have blown himself up on the White House lawn and it would have meant nothing. Things are different now, minor scandals in Jone’s personal life are national news as Donald Trump is known to be a follower, perhaps even a “cult follower” of Jones.

Alex Jones pushed these fake news scams with everything he had

For years Jones has pushed outlandish stories of Russian armies being hidden around America, of fake scandals while totally censoring any criticism of issues involving Israel or the neocon elites who brought American low under Bush and Cheney.

There is nothing new to any of this and all American media is corrupt, no one doubts it nor have they for many years now, but we do have a new wrinkle or two here and some lessons that can be learned as well.

The world now knows Alex Jones. Jones is the host of InfoWars, formerly an anti-government website and podcaster that now has turned out to be a bit of something else. Jones, over the past two weeks, has been in court in Texas over child custody issues. The mainstream news is reporting his “defeat” in hearings involving his private life.

What came out of these hearings is astounding. Jones has openly admitted to being an actor, not an activist at all, but someone hired to lay the role of “Alex Jones,” and according to court documents, paid a massive salary.

The press has turned Jones into a virtual Hollywood celebrity now, feeding off his family’s difficulties. What we now know, however, is that Jones is an actor, perhaps even a great actor, and much is coming into place. Jones isn’t the only one, in fact there are few genuine activists out there.

Fox News, the “activist” broadcaster famous for Glenn Beck, ill-fated O’Reilly and Sean Hannity has always been clear, their “talking heads” have always been actors, paid to have beliefs, which can change in a minute if orders come down from the top.

Nobody ever asks who “the top” is and, until now, nobody has asked why nobody asks.

Sean Hannity fits his acting role perfectly

None have backgrounds of activists. I don’t consider myself an activist but I do understand where they come from and why. I look at my own family. My father was a union organizer, a communist party member during the 1930’s, as was former President Ronald Reagan, while my mother was the daughter of a Kentucky coal miner.

I grew up in politics, served in war, was active at university and in the anti-war movement. Activism is part conscience and awareness, as I see it, and more likely brought on by a dose of bad brain chemistry and poor upbringing as well.

Jones and the Infowars organization is important because it is simply another look at how every movement that can be controlled is controlled. It is irresponsible to assume that every news organization isn’t targeted, that every form of information available to the public isn’t controlled or suppressed in some way. The evidence is and has been overwhelming. The most frightening and certainly most confusing aspect is that some media organizations are both controlled and suppressed.

This is what makes life interesting.

We came on Jones some years ago when looking at SITE Intelligence, a website run by Rita Katz. SITE was responsible for disseminating fake bin Laden tapes and has was the primary source for the fake intelligence that led to the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. Katz is the daughter of a Mossad agent executed in Iraq. SITE regularly briefs both the CIA and American congress. SITE fabricates all of its own material.

Rita Katz – another fake news industry, with the usual suspects behind her

SITE is partnered with the DEBKA Files, a Israel based fake news site that pushes conspiracy theories intended to “confound the enemies of Israel.” Their US counterpart is Stratfor. We were introduced to Stratfor by VT editor and former Director of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) General Hamid Gul of Pakistan.

General Gul knew Stratfor’s George Freedman very well and told me that Pakistan used Stratfor as “go-between” with Israel’s intelligence agencies. The ISI and Mossad work together closely, as author Jeff Gates learned during one of our visits to Pakistan. Gates was alarmed when, while in the lobby of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, I introduced him to a Mossad team sitting at the table next to ours.

Gates and I had lunched earlier that day, at the Marriott, with then current ISI Director General Pasha.

According to General Gul, Stratfor was used for “laundering” fake intelligence into the mainstream. In order to aid Stratfor and build their credibility, another Israeli intelligence organization, Wikileaks, “hacked” Stratfor and published a number of their fabricated stories, “re-laundering” them into prominence with the Wikileaks “seal of approval.”

Wikileaks, exposed in 2009 by former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski as an intelligence agency project, regularly “seeds” fabricated materials into their “leaks,” which is usually material they receive directly from Israeli intelligence. No, it wasn’t Russia.

Which leads us to Austin, Texas, Infowars and their local partner, Stratfor. InfoWars is, according to Gul and other sources, simply a finger on the same hand as Wikileaks or the Times of Israel or Fox News and the Murdoch/News Corp empire.

These organizations comprise a portion of the media power of the real neocon elites, not a group of Washington “think tankers” at all but front men for the City of London Rothschild banking organizations and the worldwide “Kosher Nostra” crime groups.

These groups need a media empire to create distractions like Wikileaks or stories about a “Deep State” to keep focus off their efforts to reduce humanity to slavery. But we need to go back to Alex Jones for a bit still.

We had always known Jones was an actor. Jones and radio host and broadcast executive Jeff Rense had known each other for decades. Rense had described their longtime relationship and their breakup. Rense claims it was over issues involving Israel though money is usually at the root of these things.

Trump turned out to be both a puppet and a cartoon character together

However, it is hard to ignore that issues involving Israel are a red line in American media. It was easy to see, as we did in April 2017, that Donald Trump, whipping boy of the American press, suddenly became the “great white hope” when he attacked Syria.

His sins were immediately forgiven, something that can only be done within the Israel lobby with its wide, pervasive and oft denied utter stranglehold on America’s media.

This was quickly followed by Trump’s delve into Russia bashing, also long expected. What developed from this was the long expected bloc lined up against Russia, Iran and Syria with Trump playing “cowboy mad bomber,” offloading shiploads of tanks into Jordan, untold thousands more troops into Syria and sending an armada against Korea.

This left Jones “high and dry” after overselling Trump’s supposed hatred of the Jews and his love of Putin to a bottom-rung American audience hungry for minority bashing and finger pointing. When Trump became the “plug” preventing Washington’s swamp from being drained, new levels of absurdity were reached across the media, not just InfoWars and Fox, excuse after excuse for only weeks into a presidency abandoning all major policy initiatives.

The story above is one small part of a puzzle or mosaic if you will. If the media are all actors, what are the politicians? What are the generals? As we may well have seen in Syria or elsewhere, not even the dead are real, not all of them anyway.

EU kicks US to the kerb

‘US losing world leadership, Europe can replace it’ – EU top diplomat Mogherini

European Union foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, has criticized the “unpredictable” US foreign policy under Donald Trump, and says the EU can become the main international partner of Russia, India and China.

During a Q & A during a State of the Union conference in Florence, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs was asked if Trump’s “unpredictability” has given him an advantage in dealing with North Korea’s volatility.

“Sometimes you can play with unpredictability and predictability that can surprise… but sometimes you can also scare. And sometimes it’s too late to fix it. The European way is not that of playing,” answered Mogherini.

Mogherini said she was surprised during recent visits to Beijing, New Delhi and Moscow, that all these countries want a “strong EU” and desire closer ties “not just in economy and trade, but security and humanitarian development, climate change, and foreign policy.”

“People want to work with European Union, not because they always like us… But in this geopolitical dynamic, being predictable, reliable and strong is an added value we should use,” said Mogherini

Mogherini said that Europe could “occupy the space” that is being vacated by Washington, which has enjoyed a thorny recent relationship with Brussels, over trade, NATO funding, and immigration.

“There is an opportunity for the Europeans and the European Union to position itself as a partner to all our interlocutors in the world, be it on the big global issues where maybe Washington is losing leadership,” Mogherini said.

Mogherini’s comments comes amid the negotiations on the protracted process of Brexit, accompanied by vocal statements from both UK and EU officials.

With emotions running high on the terms of the UK-EU divorce, and a suggested hefty exit bill of up to €100 billion (£84.5 billion/US$110 billion) being discussed, both sides have been making self-assertive remarks and accusations.

Those included that of the UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, who claimed the EU was trying to “affect the result of the general election” in the UK on June 8, and May being allegedly described as “living in another galaxy” after putting London’s expectations before European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker during talks in late April.

Most recently, Juncker on Friday joked that he would stop speaking English because “slowly but surely, English is losing importance.”

US Missile Sale to Saudi’s Undermines Ukraine Program

Sputnik/Moscow:  President Trump is preparing to reverse the Obama-era policy banning the sale of advanced guided missiles to Saudi Arabia. However, Russian observers say if the deal goes through, it will be a crushing blow to Grom-2, a Ukrainian program to create an analogue to Russia’s Iskander short range ballistic missile system.

On Thursday, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir confirmed that the Trump administration had taken steps to modify the Congressional notification program in order to advance the sale of over $1 billion-worth of Raytheon Paveway precision-guided missiles and Penetrator warheads to Riyadh.

The deal is expected to be just a part of weapons contracts worth tens of billions of dollars currently being negotiated by US defense companies and Saudi Arabia ahead of Trump’s visit to the country later this month. Al-Jubeir said that the president’s visit would be “historic,” and welcomed his administration’s tough rhetoric against Iran.

The Obama administration had frozen deals on precision-guided weapons to Riyadh late last year. The freeze was a response to reports of heavy civilian casualties in Yemen, where a Saudi-led coalition has been bombing Houthi militia in an attempt to reinstall former Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, who was ousted in a popular uprising in early 2015. Facing limited military success, Riyadh has taken to the strategy of attacking Yemeni infrastructure and blockading Houthi-controlled ports, thus threatening the country with humanitarian disaster.

But one side effect of the potential US-Saudi guided weapons deal which Ukrainian and Russian-language media couldn’t help but pick up on was the devastating impact the deal would have on the Ukrainian project to create the Grom-2, a new ground-to-ground tactical short-range ballistic missile system designed to compete with Russia’s 9K720 Iskander SRBM.

Last summer, Russian media revealed that Riyadh was the secret buyer financing Grom-2’s development. The Saudis were reported to have poured about $40 million into the project to enable military engineers from the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau and the Pavlograd Chemical Factory to design and produce the weapon.

Earlier this year however, reports emerged that the Saudi money had dried up, and that work on Grom-2 had been halted, pending more funding. Some Russian observers had earlier assumed that Riyadh’s desire to get ahold of a modern tactical ballistic missile system from Ukraine was connected to the fact that the US didn’t seem to want to sell them their own system, the MGM-140 ATACMS, which has capabilities roughly similar to the Iskander.

Now, with US-Saudi relations expected to warm up under Trump, observers say that if the US does move forward with its massive weapons sale to Riyadh, and the ATACMS system is part of that deal, the Grom-2 project will be threatened with being scrapped entirely.

Speaking to Russia’s Svobodnaya Pressa online newspaper, Kirill Semyenov, the head of the Center for Islamic Studies at the Institute of Innovative Development, observed that for a long time, many experts had assumed that Trump would continue Obama’s policy of cooler relations with the Gulf States.

“They read Trump’s words to mean that the US would be reducing its presence in the region. It’s worth recalling that during Obama’s second term, the leaders of Gulf states had refused to support high level talks with Washington, demonstratively sending their deputy ministers for meetings. Now, Trump has indicated very clearly that he will support the Gulf states in their struggle against Iran. Arms supplies are likely to be the first step along this path.”

Whether or not this will be able to break the Houthi resistance in Yemen is another story, Semyenov added, particularly if Riyadh does not stage a ground operation. “In general, without changes on the ground, such supplies can only lead to more civilian casualties. While the Saudis have high precision weapons, they do not aim them where they should. Often the bombs fall on weddings and other mass gatherings.”

The Iskander SRBM, this one from the St. Petersburg garrison.
The Iskander SRBM, this one from the St. Petersburg garrison.

For his part, Andrei Frolov, and editor-in-chief of the Arms Export, a Russian military publication, said that it was possible that the US will cave and deliver its ATACMS system to Riyadh. However, tying this delivery to Grom-2 is unnecessary.

“The Saudis invested into Ukraine’s Grom-2 project not because they do not have the opportunity to acquire short range tactical missile systems, but because they want to receive the competency to be able to develop their own systems,” Frolov noted.

Accordingly, if their contract with Ukrainian companies had allowed them to obtain the systems’ technology, the US’s supply of its own tactical missile system will have no impact on Grom-2.More significant is the question of why the Saudis halted their financing for the Ukrainian missile system in the first place. Is it a question of money, or the fact that Ukraine proved incapable of offering them what they are looking for? Given talk of tens of billions in weapons contracts with the US now, it doesn’t seem like a lack of cash was the main problem that Riyadh was concerned with.

Exclusive Interview with Syrian President Assad

teleSUR’s Rolando Segura sat down with the Syrian president in Damascus.

Full Transcript of teleSUR’s Exclusive Interview with Syrian President Assad

teleSUR (TS): Mr. President, thank you for receiving us.

President Bashar al-Assad (BA): I welcome you and teleSUR TV in Syria. You are welcome.

TS: Let’s start directly with the latest developments. Russia has warned that there might be other alleged chemical attacks. What are the precautionary measures that Syria has taken in order to prevent that?

BA: First of all, terrorists have used chemical materials more than once in the past several years and in more than one region throughout Syria. We have asked the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to send specialized missions to investigate what happened. And every time, the United States obstructed these investigations or prevented sending such missions in order to carry out such investigations. This is what happened last week when we called for investigations over the alleged use of chemical weapons in the town of Khan Sheikhoun. The United States and its allies prevented OPCW from taking that decision. As far as we are concerned, we still insist on an investigation, and we and our Russian and Iranian allies are trying to persuade OPCW to send a team to investigate what happened, because if it doesn’t, the United States might repeat the same charade by fabricating the use of false chemical weapons in another place in Syria in order to justify military intervention in support of the terrorists. On the other hand, we continue to fight the terrorists, because we know that the objective of all these American and Western allegations concerning chemical weapons is to support terrorists in Syria. That’s why we will continue to fight these terrorists.

TS: But the Pentagon says that Syria has chemical weapons. Is it true that Syria has kept one percent of the weapons it has committed itself to hand over and destroy four years ago?

BA: You and I remember well what happened in 2003, when Colin Powell showed the world in the United Nations what he claimed to be the evidence which proves that President Saddam Hussein possessed chemical, nuclear, and other weapons. However, when the American forces invaded Iraq, it was proven that all he said was a lie. Powell himself admitted that the American intelligence agencies deceived him with that false evidence. That wasn’t the first nor will it be the last time. This means that if you want to be a politician in the United States, you have to be a genuine liar. This is what characterizes American politicians: they lie on a daily basis, and say something and do something different. That’s why we shouldn’t believe what the Pentagon, or any other American institution says, because they say things which serve their policies, not things which reflect reality and the facts on the ground.

TS: What is the objective behind Syria’s desire to acquire the latest generation of anti-missile systems from Russia?

BA: We are already in a state of war with Israel; and Israel has been committing aggressions on the Arab states surrounding it since its creation in 1948. So, it’s natural that we should have such systems. However, the terrorists, acting on Israeli, American, Turkish, Qatari, and Saudi instructions have destroyed some of these systems. And it is natural for us to negotiate with the Russians now with a view to strengthening these systems, whether to face any Israeli threats from the air or the threats of American missiles. That has become a real possibility after the recent American aggression on al-Shairat airbase in Syria.

TS: What is the role that Israel, in particular, has played in this war against Syria? We know that Israeli attacks against the positions of the Syrian Arab Army have continued in recent weeks.

BA: It is playing this role in different forms; first, by direct aggression, particularly by using warplanes, artillery, or missiles against Syrian Army positions. Second, it is supporting terrorists in two ways: first by providing direct support in the form of weapons, and second by providing logistic support, i.e. allowing them to conduct military exercises in the areas it controls. It also provides them with medical assistance in its hospitals. These are not mere claims or assumptions. They are facts, verified and published on the internet which you can easily access as proven evidence of the Israeli role in support of the terrorists in Syria.

TS: How do you assess the current policy of Donald Trump in the world, and in Syria in particular?

BA: The American President has no policies. There are policies drawn by the American institutions which control the American regime which are the intelligence agencies, the Pentagon, the big arms and oil companies, and financial institutions, in addition to some other lobbies which influence American decision-making. The American President merely implements these policies, and the evidence is that when Trump tried to move on a different track, during and after his election campaign, he couldn’t. He came under a ferocious attack. As we have seen in the past few week, he changed his rhetoric completely and subjected himself to the terms of the deep American state, or the deep American regime. That’s why it is unrealistic and a complete waste of time to make an assessment of the American President’s foreign policy, for he might say something; but he ultimately does what these institutions dictate to him. This is not new. This has been ongoing American policy for decades.

TS: The American administration has opened a new front now with North Korea. Is it possible that this will affect the current American approach towards Syria?

BA: No, the United States always seeks to control all the states of the world without exception. It does not accept allies, regardless of whether they are developed states as those in the Western bloc, or other states of the world. Every state should be an American satellite. That is why what is happening to Syria, to Korea, to Iran, to Russia, and maybe to Venezuela now, aims at re-imposing American hegemony on the world, because they believe that this hegemony is under threat now, which consequently threatens the interests of American economic and political elites.

TS: Russia’s role in the Syrian conflict is very clear; but what is the role of China, this other great global power?

BA: There is great cooperation with Russia and China in terms of political action or political positions. Viewpoints are similar, and there is cooperation in the Security Council. As you know, the United States and its allies have tried several times to use the Security Council in order to legitimize the role of the terrorists in Syria and to legitimize their role in the illegitimate and aggressive intervention in Syria. That’s why Russia and China stood together, and China’s role, with the Russian role, was essential in this regard.

Moreover, some of the terrorists are Chinese nationals who came to Syria through Turkey. They pose a threat to us in Syria, but they pose an equal threat to China. China is aware of the fact that terrorism in any place in the world moves to any other place; and consequently, whether these terrorists are of Chinese or any other nationality, they might return to China and strike there as they have done in Europe, in Russia, and in Syria. We are now cooperating with China on security issues.

TS: Western and American media talk now about moderate terrorists and extremist terrorists. In reality, is there a difference between the two groups?

BA: For them, a moderate terrorist is that who carries out acts of beheading and slaughter but without carrying al-Qaeda flag, or without saying “Allah Akbar,” while an extremist terrorist is that who carries the flag and says Allah Akbar when carrying out acts of beheading and slaughter. This is the only difference. For the United States, all those who serve its political agenda against other states are classified as moderate opposition and not as extremist and terrorist, even if they commit the worst acts of terrorism. They are freedom fighters and not fighters in the cause of destruction and sabotage.

TS: There have been six years of war in Syria. What is Syria’s position now, particularly in the absence of statistics about human losses?

BA: The most painful loss in any war is human loss, the suffering which is inflicted any family when it loses one of its members; for the whole family is scarred for life. This is the natural feeling in a region like ours, where family ties are very strong. Nothing compensates that loss, and nothing exceeds the pain it causes. There are of course huge economic and infrastructure losses, but this infrastructure has been built for a little over 50 years by Syrian hands, not foreign hands. And we have the capacity to rebuild this infrastructure. The same goes for the economy, for the Syrian economy is based on Syrian capabilities first and foremost; and our economic ties with the West have always been limited. When the war is over, it will all be rebuilt. We do not have a problem with that. It is true that it takes time, but it is not impossible. So, the greatest and most painful loss for Syria is the human loss.

TS: Of the 86 states constituting the alliance waging war on Syria, are there any that would take part in the process of reconstruction?

BA: No, of course not. First of all, they do not want to rebuild Syria, but some companies in those countries, if they see that the wheel of the economy and rebuilding has started to turn, and since they are opportunists, they are certainly prepared to come and have a share of rebuilding Syria in order to make money. The Syrian people will certainly not accept this. All the states which stood against the Syrian people and took part in the destruction and sabotage will never take part in rebuilding Syria. That is final.

TS: But how was life during these past six years in this besieged country?

BA: Life has certainly been tough to every Syrian citizen. The terrorists have destroyed the infrastructure. In certain areas, electricity is on for one or two hours, and there are areas in which there’s no electricity at all. There are areas in which electricity has been cut off for more than two or three years. People don’t know television, children do not go to school, there are no medical clinics or hospitals, and nobody treats the ill. They live a prehistoric existence thanks to the terrorists. There are areas which did not have water for years, like what happened in Aleppo, which did not have water for many long years. Sometimes, they use polluted water for drinking, washing up, and other purposes. Life has been very tough.

TS: One of the main targets during these years has been the person of Bashar al-Assad. Have you ever felt fear during these years?

BA: When you are in the middle of the war, you do not feel fear. I believe this is something common to all people. But you have a general concern for the homeland; for what is the value of being safe, as an individual, as a citizen, while the country is under threat? You cannot feel safe. I believe that the feeling we have in Syria in general is concern for the future of Syria rather than personal fear. The evidence is that mortar shells fall anywhere, on any house; nevertheless, you see that life continues in Syria. The will to life is much stronger than personal fear. As a President, I take strength from the feelings of the general public, not from my personal feelings. I do not live in isolation from the others.

TS: Western media have been waging a media campaign against you. Am I sitting now with this devil portrayed by the media?

BA: Yes, from a Western perspective, you are now sitting with the devil. This is how they market it in the West. But this is always the case when a state, a government, or an individual do not subjugate themselves to their interests, and do not work for their interests against the interests of their people. These have been the Western colonial demands throughout history. They say that this evil person is killing the good people. Okay, if he is killing the good people, who have been supporting him for the past six years? Neither Russia, nor Iran, nor any friendly state can support an individual at the expense of the people. This is impossible. If he is killing the people, how come the people support him? This is the contradictory Western narrative; and that’s why we shouldn’t waste our time on Western narratives because they have been full of lies throughout history, and not something new.

TS: What can Syria, too, do in order to put an end to this war ahead of the sixth round of Geneva talks?

BA: We said that there are two axes: the first is fighting the terrorists; and this is not subject to any discussion, and we don’t have any other choice in dealing with the terrorists except fighting them. The other axis, the political one, includes two points: first, dialogue with the different political forces over the future of Syria; and second: local reconciliations, in the sense that we negotiate with the terrorists in a certain village or city, depending on each case separately. The objective of this reconciliation is for them to lay down their weapons and receive an amnesty from the state, and consequently return to their normal life. This approach has been implemented during the past three or four years, has succeeded, and is ongoing now. These are the axes which we can work on in order to find a solution to the Syrian crisis.

TS: From the perspective of a country in a state of war, how do you see the situation in Latin America, particularly in Venezuela, where a number of acts very similar to those which caused the conflict in Syria have emerged?

BA: Of course, they should be similar, because the party planning and implementing these acts is the same. It is the United States as a maestro and the Western states constituting the choir. Latin America in general, and Venezuela in particular, used to be the backyard of the United States for decades. Through that backyard, Western states, particularly North America, or the United States, used to secure their economic interests through the influence of the big companies in your countries. Military or political coups in Latin America during the 1960s and the 1970s aimed at perpetuating American hegemony over the interests of your people. But Latin America freed itself during the past twenty years and gained its independent decision-making. Governments started defending the interests of their peoples, which is unacceptable to the United States. That’s why they are exploiting what’s happening in the world, starting with the orange revolution in Ukraine up to the recent coup there a few years ago, and what is taking place in the Arab countries, in Libya, Syria, Yemen and others, in order to implement it in Latin America. They started in Venezuela with the objective of overthrowing the national government, and it will spread over to other Latin American countries.

TS: Some people, particularly ordinary citizens in Latin America, think that a scenario similar to what’s happening in Syria could be repeated in Latin America. What do you think?

BA: This is true. That’s why I say since the party planning and implementing is the same, it’s natural that the scenario is not only similar, but identical. Some local elements might be different. In Syria, they said in the beginning that there were peaceful demonstrations, but in fact, when these peaceful demonstrations did not spread wide enough, they implanted individuals who fired on both sides, on the police and the demonstrations, and there were casualties. They started to say that the state is killing the people, and this scenario is being repeated everywhere. The same scenario will be repeated in Venezuela. That’s why the Venezuelan people have to be very careful. There is a difference between opposing the government and being against the homeland, a huge difference. On the other hand, no foreign state can be more concerned about Venezuela’s interests than the Venezuelan people themselves. Do not believe the West, for it’s not concerned either about human rights or about the interests of states. It is only concerned about the interests of part of the governing elites in its countries. And these governing elites are not necessarily politicians, they are economic companies too.

TS: I’m talking about Latin America, Venezuela, the Bolivarian Revolution which was your strong ally. How do you remember the late Hugo Chavez?

BA: President Chavez was a world-class distinguished personality. When we talk about Latin America, we immediately remember the late President Chavez and the late leader Fidel Castro, the leader of the Cuban Revolution. They are distinguished personalities who changed the face of Latin America. But of course the leader I knew personally and whom I met more than once and had a personal relationship with was President Chavez, when he visited us in Syria and I visited him in Venezuela. He visited us twice. When you meet him, you can tell that he is the son of the people. You do not feel that you are meeting a president or a politician, but a person who lived the suffering of his people. Everything he said, and every minute of his time, was about the details related to the people of his country. And when he talked with a head of another state, or an official from another state, he always thought of how to create common interests which reflect positively on his people. He was a real and strongly charismatic leader. And he was an extremely genuine person.

TS: They demonized Chavez before; and it is clear that it is Nicolas Maduro’s turn now.

BA: Of course, as long as President Maduro is walking the same patriotic line, the line of Venezuela’s independence, and acting in the best interest of his country’s people, it is natural that he should be the first target of the United States. This is self-evident.

TS: How does Bashar al-Assad envision the end of the war?

BA: Today, foreign intervention in Syria aside, the problem is not complicated, for the majority of the Syrians are tired of the war and want a solution. They want to return to safety and stability. There is a dialogue between us as Syrians, there are meetings, and people live with each other, i.e. there is no real barrier. The problem now is that with every step we make towards a solution and regaining stability, the terrorist gangs receive more money and weapons in order to blow the situation up. That’s why I can say that the solution should be stopping outside support to the terrorists. As far as we are concerned in Syria, reconciliation among all Syrians, and forgetting and forgiving all that happened in the past throughout this war, is the way to restore safety to Syria. Rest assured that Syria will be then much stronger than it was before the war.

TS: Are you prepared to have reconciliation with those who carried arms against the Syrian people?

BA: Of course, and this has actually happened in many and different places, and some of them have fought side by side with the Syrian Army, some fell martyrs, and some returned to their cities and live in the part under government control. We don’t have a problem. Tolerance is essential to end any war. And we are proceeding on that track.

TS: Mr. President, what is your message to Latin America and the world?

BA: Keep your independence. We, in the Arab region, are celebrating independence in more than one country. But this independence used to mean, in a number of countries in the region, the mere evacuation of occupying forces. But real independence happens when you are in possession of your national decision-making. For us, Latin America was a model of independence, in the sense that occupiers were evacuated, in case there were foreign forces, but at the same time there was national decision-making, openness, and democracy. You provided the world with an important model. So, keep it, because if the countries of the third and developing world wanted to develop, they should follow the model implemented in Latin America.

TS: Mr. President, thank you for giving teleSUR this interview, and thank you for your precious time and all the information that you have provided.

BA: Thank you for coming, and once again I welcome you in Damascus.

Amid Saudi Monarchy’s War Crimes, US Considers Multi-Billion Dollar Arms Package

Trump has vowed to stimulate the U.S. military-industrial complex and boost manufacturing jobs by offering Riyadh major weapons deals.

Despite the devastating and murderous war being waged on the people of Yemen by Saudi Arabia, Washington is working to ram through contracts for tens of billions of dollars in weapons for the despotic monarchy ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump’s trip to the kingdom this month, Reuters reports.

Saudi Arabia is Trump’s first stop on his maiden international trip, a sign of his intent to reinforce ties with the U.S.-allied al-Saud dynasty. The kingdom’s human rights record, both inside and outside the country, has been dismal, and the country has regularly faced condemnation for its open disdain for international law in its onslaught on Yemeni civilians.

The United States has been the main supplier for most Saudi military needs, from F-15 fighter jets to command and control systems worth tens of billions of dollars in recent years. Washington also provides maintenance and training to Saudi security forces.

Trump has vowed to stimulate the U.S. military-industrial complex and boost manufacturing jobs by offering Riyadh major weapons deals.

Washington and Riyadh are eager to improve relations strained under President Barack Obama in part because of his championing of a nuclear deal with Iran, an Islamist republican opponent of Gulf Arab monarchies.

The package includes Lockheed Martin’s Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, THAAD, missile defense system with several batteries, the sources said. The THAAD system, like the one being made operational in South Korea, costs about US$1 billion. Also being negotiated are combat vehicles including the Bradley Fighting Vehicle and M109 artillery vehicle and the multi-mission Littoral Combat Ship, are built by Bethesda, Maryland-based weapons maker Lockheed Martin and Australia’s Austal Limited. If a deal goes through, it would be the first sale of a new small surface warship to a foreign power in decades. Any major foreign weapons sale is subject to oversight by Congress. Lawmakers must take into consideration a legal requirement that Israel must maintain its qualitative military edge over its neighbors.

Also, more than US$1 billion worth of munitions including armor-piercing Penetrator Warheads and Paveway laser-guided bombs made by Raytheon are in the package, the sources said. The Obama administration suspended the planned sale in December due to concerns over the Saudi-led military campaign in Yemen, which has devastated the civilian population.

A representative for the Saudi embassy in Washington declined to comment.

Shares of both Raytheon and Lockheed closed up 0.9 percent. Both stocks hit session highs following the Reuters report.

One of the people with knowledge of the sales said that as planning for Trump’s trip to Saudi Arabia intensified in recent weeks, the arms negotiations also accelerated. Saudi foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir and other Saudi officials met with lawmakers at the Capitol on Thursday, including Senators Bob Corker and Ben Cardin on the foreign relations committee.

The Pentagon declined to comment, as did the weapons manufacturers BAE and Raytheon. White House and State Department officials said it was U.S. policy not to comment on proposed U.S. defense sales until they had been formally notified to Congress.

The Obama administration had offered Saudi Arabia more than $115 billion in weapons. Most of the Obama-era offers, which are reported to Congress, became formal agreements though some were abandoned or amended.

Well over than 10,000 people have been killed since the war was launched by Saudi royals in 2015, wile millions of people have been displaced and millions others lack access to clean water, food, or medical assistance.

In an interview Wednesday, Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said that “a long war is in our interest,” referring to the Yemen campaign and adding that the Ansarullah movement in the country wishes to “dominate the Muslim world and spread the Shiite faith,” revealing the sectarian motives of the Wahhabi al-Saud monarchy.

Alt-right Reels as Jewish Billionaires Fight Over Control of Fake Trump Presidency

Jewish billionaires fighting a quiet war for president’s ear as they seek to shape his approach to the conflict, NY Times reports

Times of Israel
Pro-Abbas Lauder, hawkish Adelson ‘battling to influence Trump on Mideast’

President Donald Trump’s efforts to reignite the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians has created a contest for influence by two Jewish billionaires with close ties to the president and opposing worldviews, The New York Times reported over the weekend.

Ronald S. Lauder, a long-time friend of the president, is said to be pushing Trump to advance a new peace initiative while tightening relations with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Lauder hosted a dinner for Abbas at his Washington, DC home this week before the Palestinian leader met with the president.

On the other end of the spectrum is casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, who was a top donor for Trump during his presidential campaign and is known for his close ties to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Adelson is reportedly worried by those voices urging Trump to adopt a more measured approach to the Middle East conflict — rather than the staunchly pro-Israel position he ran on during the campaign.

The Times noted that conservatives uncomfortable with Trump’s overtures to the Palestinian leadership still feel that his approach is a considerable improvement over former president Barack Obama.

Still, the battle for the president’s ear is raging quietly behind the scenes.

Lauder is reportedly in close contact with Trump’s Mideast peace envoy Jason Greenblatt — who has met with both Abbas and Netanyahu, as well as Arab leaders and other regional officials with influence on the peace process. Hardliners are said to be worried that Greenblatt too could become too sympathetic to the Arab position.

Adelson, meanwhile, is said to be incensed by Trump’s failure so far to follow through on his promise to move the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and has not donated to any pro-Trump groups since the inauguration.

Trump has not yet ruled out the possibility that the embassy move may still happen, but must decide by June whether to renew the longstanding presidential waiver of Congress’s 1995 decision to relocate the embassy.

Trump’s chief strategist Steve Bannon is said to represent Adelson’s interests in the president’s inner circle, and is himself fighting to prevent Lauder’s enthusiasm for bold action from infecting the president.

Questioned by the Times, an associate of Lauder denied he was trying to push an alliance with Abbas, but said he was an optimist.

Meanwhile, hardliners opposed to a new peace push were proudly pessimistic — saying any keenness by the administration to make progress in the peace process would soon be snuffed out by the realities of regional politics.

“The administration is likely to discover what its predecessors learned: that there is no deal to be had right now because the parties have unbridgeable positions on most of the issues,” Republican strategist Noah Pollak told the Times.

He expressed hope that “the process of the administration proving to itself that no deal is possible will be quick and undramatic.”

Trump will make a one-day visit to Israel on May 22 along with his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, and his senior advisers, daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Trump has pledged to work for a comprehensive Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, and there has been speculation that he will seek to convene a Middle East summit soon after this month’s trip. Israel’s Channel 2 said the administration has also expressed interest in a possible Israel-Jordan-Saudi Arabia train route, and in pushing a much-discussed Red Sea-Dead Sea canal project.

During the trip, Trump will meet with Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin as well as Abbas. The US president is not expected in Ramallah but may visit Bethlehem.

When Abbas visited the White House this week, Trump expressed optimism in his ability to broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.

“We will get it done. We will be working so hard to get it done. It’s been a long time, but we will be working diligently, and I think there’s a very, very good chance,” Trump said during a joint press conference with Abbas.

The president, who has referred to a Mideast peace agreement as “the ultimate deal,” said he would be willing to play whatever role was needed to strike the coveted but elusive accord.

Germany: Russia, Iran Bear Responsibility for Observance of Syria Safe Zones Agreement

Senior Russian military commander Sergei Rudskoi (L) speaks during a news briefing on the situation in Syria, Moscow, May 5, 2017

Responsibility for observance of the memorandum on safe zones in Syria lies upon Russia and Iran, while the Syrian regime relies on their support, according to the German Foreign Ministry.

BERLIN (Sputnik) — Russia and Iran are the ones carrying the main responsibility for observance of the memorandum on safe zones in Syria, the German Foreign Ministry said Saturday.

“Any initiative that leads to reducing violence and giving humanitarian aid and staffers an unimpeded access to the people in need is strongly welcome. However, it is clear that the Astana agreement is a responsibility. All parties to it are now even more obliged to contribute to observance of the agreement. Above all, the responsibility for that lies upon Russia and Iran, while the Syrian regime relies on their support,” the ministry said in a statement.

If the fighting stops in the four safe zones in the next days and weeks, it would be “an important signal,” the statement added. On Thursday, Russia, Turkey and Iran signed the memorandum on establishment of four safe zones in Syria as part of the Astana talks. The four zones span the northwestern Idlib province and parts of the neighboring Latakia, Hama and Aleppo, the north of the central Homs province, Eastern Ghouta near Damascus, as well as southern Daraa and Quneitra regions. The memorandum came into force at 21:00 GMT on Friday.
