US underwrites ‘Israel’s’ economy, while Americans suffer

US underwrites Israel’s economy, while Americans suffer

Morgan Strong

By: Morgan Strong

Israel is around the same size as New Jersey, one of the smallest US states and which contributes nearly $30bn to the US federal budget – very little of which is returned through federal programs.

A portion of that money ends up in Israel. Indeed, all 50 states rely on some return of their federal taxes for infrastructure, highways, healthcare, education and other programs. When a portion of that money is used for other purposes – such as aid to Israel – the citizens suffer the consequences.

Military aid
The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs estimates US direct aid to Israel at more than $130bn. Unlike other recipients of US military aid, Israel has in the past been allowed to spend more than a quarter of its annual military aid in Israel, rather than in the US, resulting in an increasingly sophisticated and competitive Israeli defense industry.

As a result, the Congressional Research Service reported that between 2004 and 2011, Israel was the eighth-largest arms exporter, with sales of $12.9bn. In contrast with other countries receiving US military aid, which must purchase through the Department of Defense (DOD), Israel deals directly with US companies and is exempt from DOD review.

Israel is ranked 22nd on the UN Human Development Index, compared to the US at 13th. Despite a lagging GDP, Israel is nonetheless considered a wealthy country, with universal healthcare, affordable higher education and a higher life expectancy than the US.

All Israeli residents are entitled to basic healthcare as a fundamental right, compared to the US, which has one of the most underperforming healthcare systems among developed nations, despite massive spending of $3.5 trillion annually.

On the education front, the annual cost of tuition at an Israeli university, set by the government, is around $3,000, compared with around $10,000 for US residents at state universities.

Tax exemptions
US intelligence officials take an active interest in friends as well as foes, with counterintelligence operations “strategically focused against [the] priority targets of China, Russia, Iran, Cuba and Israel”.

The latter is a US ally, but has a history of espionage attempts against the US; Israel has also consistently deceived the US as to the existence of its nuclear weapons and ballistic-missile systems.

US taxpayers unwittingly exercise great largesse towards the people of Israel, at great detriment to themselves

At the same time, an investigation several years ago by the Forward, which focused on the US Jewish community’s network of charity organisations, “uncovered a tax-exempt Jewish communal apparatus that operates on the scale of a Fortune 500 company and focuses the largest share of its donor dollars on Israel”.

Great largesse
Indeed, in addition to federal budget allocations, there are private charities, local and state governments, and corporations that contribute additional billions to Israel.

US taxpayers unwittingly exercise great largesse towards the people of Israel, at great detriment to themselves. Millions of Americans are without basic healthcare because they cannot afford it. Millions of US university students are deeply in debt from student loans taken to finance their education – all while the US underwrites Israel’s economy.

Microsoft should not fund Nazi Gestapo spying on Palestinians

Microsoft should not fund Israeli spying

By; Ramzy Baroud

The act of Palestinian activists covering their faces during anti-Israeli occupation rallies is an old practice that spans decades. The masking of the face, often by Kufyias – traditional Palestinian scarves that grew to symbolize Palestinian resistance – is far from being a fashion statement. Instead, it is a survival technique, without it, activists are likely to be arrested in subsequent nightly raids; at times, even assassinated.

In the past, Israel used basic technologies to identify Palestinians who take part in protests and mobilize the people in various popular activities. TV news footage or newspaper photos were thoroughly deciphered, often with the help of Israel’s collaborators in the Occupied Territories, and the ‘culprits’ would be identified, summoned to meet Shin Bet intelligence officers or arrested from their homes.

That old technique was eventually replaced by more advanced technology, countless images transmitted directly through Israeli drones – the flagship of Israel’s “security industry”. Thousands of Palestinians were detained and hundreds were assassinated in recent years as a result of drones data, analyzed through Israel’s burgeoning facial recognition software.

If in the past, Palestinian activists were keen on keeping their identity hidden, now they have much more compelling reasons to ensure the complete secrecy of their work. Considering the information sharing between the Israeli army and illegal Jewish settlers and their armed militias in the occupied West Bank, Palestinians face the double threat of being targeted by armed settlers as well as by Israeli soldiers.

True, when it comes to Israel, such a grim reality is hardly surprising. But what is truly disturbing is the direct involvement of international corporate giants, the likes of Microsoft, in facilitating the work of the Israeli military, whose sole aim is to crush any form of dissent among Palestinians.

Microsoft prides itself on being a leader in corporate social responsibility (CSR), emphasizing that “privacy (is) a fundamental human right.”

The Washington-State based software giant dedicates much attention, at least on paper, to the subject of human rights. “Microsoft is committed to respecting human rights,” Microsoft Global Human Rights Statement asserts. “We do this by harnessing the beneficial power of technology to help realize and sustain human rights everywhere.”

In practice, however, Microsoft’s words are hardly in line with its action, at least not when its human rights maxims are applied to occupied and besieged Palestinians.

Writing in the American news network NBC News on October 27, Olivia Solon reported on Microsoft funding of the Israeli firm, AnyVision, which uses facial recognition “to secretly watch West Bank Palestinians”.

Through its venture capital arm M12, Microsoft has reportedly invested $78 million in the Israeli startup company that “uses facial recognition to surveil Palestinians throughout the West Bank, in spite of the tech giant’s public pledge to avoid using the technology if it encroaches on democratic freedoms”.

AnyVision had developed an “advanced tactical surveillance” software system, dubbed “Better Tomorrow” that, according to a joint NBC News-Haaretz investigation, “lets customers identify individuals and objects in any live camera feed, such as a security camera or smartphone, and then track targets as they move between different feeds.”

As disquieting as “Better Tomorrow’s” mission sounds, it takes on a truly sinister objective in Palestine. “According to five sources familiar with the matter,” wrote Solon, “AnyVision’s technology powers a secret military surveillance project throughout the West Bank.”

“One source said the project is nicknamed ‘Google Ayosh,’ where ‘Ayosh’ means occupied Palestinian territories and ‘Google’ denotes the technology’s ability to search for people.”

Headquartered in Israel, AnyVision has several offices around the world, including the US, the UK, and Singapore. Considering the nature of AnyVision’s work, and the intrinsic link between Israel’s technology sector and the country’s military, it should have been assumed that the company’s software is likely used to track down Palestinian dissidents.

In July, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz pointed out that “AnyVision is taking part in two special projects in assisting the Israeli army in the West Bank. One involves a system that it has installed at army checkpoints that thousands of Palestinians pass through each day on their way to work from the West Bank.”

Former AnyVision employees spoke to NBC News about their experiences with the company, one even asserting that he/she “saw no evidence that ethical considerations drove any business decisions” at the firm.

The alarming reports invited strong protests by human rights organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

Alas, Microsoft carried on with supporting AnyVision’s work unhindered.

This is not the first time that Microsoft is caught red-handed in its support of the Israeli military or criticized for other unethical practices.

Unlike Facebook, Google and others, who are constantly, albeit deservingly being chastised for violating privacy rules or allowing politics to influence their editorial agenda, Microsoft has been left largely outside the brewing controversies. But, like the rest, Microsoft should be held to account.

In its ‘Human Rights Statement’, Microsoft declared its respect for human rights based on international conventions, starting with the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In occupying and oppressing Palestinians, Israel violates every article of that declaration, starting with Article 1, which states that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights,” and including Article 3: “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.”

It will take Microsoft more than hyperlinking to a UN document to show true and sincere respect for human rights.

Indeed, for a company that enjoys great popularity throughout the Middle East and in Palestine itself, an inevitable first step towards respecting human rights is to immediately divest from AnyVision, coupled with an apology for all of those who have already paid the price for that ominous Israeli technology.

Lebanon: The scarcity in the dollar to aggravate… to you what is happening in detail !!

By: Sammi Ibrahem,Sr

Describing the current financial and monetary situation is no longer just a pessimistic scenario that can be expected for Lebanon’s near future. The case today.

The former minister and former first deputy governor of the Banque du Liban, Nasser Al-Saidi, in an interview with Al-Jumhuriya, listed three indicators that outline the current phase on the financial, monetary and economic levels:

The emergence of a market parallel to the exchange rate, which means that the official exchange rate is no longer used for trading. As a result, consumer price inflation will rise, as institutions will require payment in dollars or re-price their price regulations at the current exchange rate in the parallel market. In this context, Saidi expected inflation to exceed 7 percent this year, compared with 6 percent last year, which will affect the consumer and purchasing power.

Informal Capital Control or restrictions imposed by banks on remittances from the lira to foreign currencies and on remittances abroad. “These restrictions are unofficial because the BDL has not issued a circular in this regard, but it is an agreement between banks that may be directed by the BDL to put those restrictions on banking operations,” Saidi said.

He explained that «these restrictions will lead to an unannounced change to the economic and financial system in Lebanon, which has been characterized throughout the history of the free movement of money».

He said that «banks continue to impose these restrictions and even increase them as long as the situation did not witness any positive developments, and in the absence of a clear economic and financial vision for the future and the absence of a government that can initiate a rescue program».

He said: “The most serious in this matter is that remittances and capital to Lebanon will decline to stop completely, which will exacerbate the crisis.” He explained that «Lebanese expatriates who used to transfer money to their families will refrain from that, because banks in Lebanon are freezing those funds».

He added: «This will increase the risks, and the liquidity crisis and the tightening of the dollar is increasing day by day. This means that the size of the dollar monetary mass in the market will decline, and will negatively affect the exchange rate of the dollar in the parallel market and lead to rise ».

He also pointed out that the restrictions imposed by the banks will lead to a high cost of importing raw materials, which means an increase in the cost of Lebanese industry or any local production activity.

3 – The emergence of a new system for the import of fuel, wheat and medicines, «which puts us in the category of countries that impose restrictions on exchange operations, such as Syria and others. As a result, the “dollar” will get a special price for anyone who has the license to import these materials, creating a black or parallel market that will be exploited by the owners of these licenses “This is what happened in other countries.”

“The three indicators mentioned above will change in an undeclared manner the Lebanese economic system,” Al-Saidi said. “To invest its funds in the private sector and only to employ in the Banque du Liban.”

He continued: «The liquidity crisis in the market as a result of those investments in the Bank of Lebanon, which affected the economic activity as a whole, and led to an economic recession resulting in bankruptcies and closures of private sector institutions and factories».

“What the banking sector is doing is a palliative home. The mere imposition of restrictions means that strict measures will follow, and will increase the tightness of the dollar and increase the exchange rate in the parallel market ».

While noting that the economic recession will increase, he said: “What is needed now is, as soon as possible, to establish a credible government that includes honest people who are not politically affiliated to any party, competent and experienced. .

Central Bank of Lebanon circular

As for the circular of the Banque du Liban, which asked banks to increase their capital by up to 20 percent at the end of June 2020 and not distribute dividends to shareholders for the fiscal year 2019, Saidi said that this circular was the result of the downgrade of Lebanon and the rating of banks holding sovereign bonds. He explained that the downgrade of banks means that the value of their assets has fallen due to the decline in the prices of sovereign bonds by between 30 to 40 percent, noting that 70 percent of bank assets are treasury bonds and certificates of deposit.

As a result of the downgrade, Saidi explained that banks are obliged to increase their solvency ratio and thus increase their capital, which is also a measure that can be put in the palliative category, because it was in response to the downgrade by Moody’s and Fitch.

If a new government is not formed, the budget is approved and the required reforms implemented, the Standard & Poor’s rating, expected in the next two months, will be negative, requiring more private funds to be allocated to banks.

Two Jordanian citizens detained in Nazi camp have been released and have returned to Jordan, bringing the diplomatic crisis between the two puppet regimes to a close.

Twenty-four-year-old Heba Al-Labadi and 29-year-old Abdul Rahman Miri were released this morning after the Nazi Gestapo announced their planned release yesterday. The pair made their way back to Jordan via the Karama crossing.

Following their arrest on what Nazi regime claimed was “security” grounds, a campaign and protests were launched demanding their release.  Al-Labadi launched a hunger strike against her administrative detention – arrest without charge or trial – which she continued for 41 days. She ended her protest yesterday.

Jordan also recalling its ambassador Zionist puppet Ghassan Al-Majali from the Nazi state in protest, however he has now said he will return to his post.

Nazi Prime Minister Benjamin Naziyahu’s office announced that “Jordan will return its ambassador to Israel in the coming days, after an agreement was reached between the countries for the transferring of the responsibility of the two arrested Jordanians in Israel to the Jordanian security forces.”

“Israel views the relationship between Jordan and Israel as a cornerstone of regional stability, and will continue to act to ensure the region’s security,” he continued.

Reports repeatedly surfaced of Al-Labadi’s torture at the hands of Nazi Gestapo during her detention, including details of her being held in stress positions, being forcibly stripped and watched, and living in squalid conditions plagued by cockroaches.

Some British Jews are so fearful about the consequences of a government led by Jeremy Corbyn that they would leave the country if the Labour leader “got anywhere near the levers of power”, the Conservative chairman claims.

In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, James Cleverly states that people he has known for “much of my life” have said they would be “out of here” if Mr Corbyn became prime minister.

Mr Cleverly, who is in charge of the Tory election campaign, said he was aware of individuals and groups, including entrepreneurs and other business figures, who planned to leave the country if Labour were to win the election.

The businessmen were minded to leave because of Mr Corbyn’s hostility…

Al Manar torch will not extinguish…. Wide solidarity with the resistance

Al Manar torch will not extinguish…. Wide solidarity with the resistance channel after the closure of its accounts on Zionist puppet Twitter

As Facebook, the social networking site Twitter yesterday closed Al-Manar channel accounts. The main channel account had exceeded 480,000 followers. The reason is that it is the channel of resistance and considers the Zionist entity an enemy, and this does not suit the policies of the United States and Europe.

Twitter also closed other accounts of the resistance, including Jerusalem, that is, closed accounts belonging to the Lebanese and Palestinian resistance, in an effort to silence the voice of everyone who stands in the face of the Israeli enemy.

This will certainly not weaken the Al-Manar channel, which has been subjected to many repression. The channel, which was taken from the ‘flame will not extinguish’ slogan was bombed during the aggression of July 2006, but did not stop broadcasting only a few minutes. In recent years, both ‘Arabsat’ and ‘NileSat’ have cut off the resistance channel.

“Gibran Minister Saad President

By: Sammi Ibrahem,Sr

“Lebanese Debate” – Safaa Darwish

The resignation of Prime Minister Saad Hariri, uncoordinated with his governing partners, weighed heavily on the political scene amid suspicion of a move that appears to be internationally supported and concerns about Hariri’s desire to break the presidential settlement and abandon one of his most prominent supporters since his detention in Saudi Arabia and to date, Hezbollah.

This atmosphere is casting a shadow over the binding parliamentary consultations to be held in Baabda Palace after the President of the Republic has finished his paved contacts and his feeling that the atmosphere has become sound and stable and ready for such a constitutional step leading to the start of the formation of the government.

In this context, the information indicates that Hezbollah, resentful of the resignation of Hariri’s ill-considered, has not yet decided to name any person to be appointed prime minister, but it is heading not to name Hariri.

This trend intersects greatly with the atmosphere of the Free Patriotic Movement, which believes that the requirement not to minister FPM Minister Gibran Bassil is an attempt to break and wear all the corruption that has been rife for thirty years, which is contrary to the truth.

Sources close to the movement confirm that Bassil is not committed to the minister and has no problem in naming representatives of the powerful Lebanese bloc.

In this context, it seems that Hariri’s attempt to break Bassil will lead to a new equation of “Gibran Wazir Saad Rais – Gibran Wazir Saad Wassir Rais”, which may prolong the vacuum.

On the other hand, a telecom source notes a great satisfaction among the parties in dealing with President Michel Aoun and his keenness to get out of the current crisis with real and radical solutions that will satisfy the people and not disappoint them.

This rally, the source asserts, stems from the fact that Aoun represents the moderate oriental Christian face.

This view was born after the practices of some sectarian exclusion government and others used the street to remind him of his strength on the ground and restore scenes of banditry and the request of sisters, winking from the channel “Lebanese Forces.”

A source leading my forces, responded through the “Lebanon Debate,” saying that “aiming at the troops is only an attempt to politicize the popular movement and distracted from his basic demands.”

The source said that “the popularity of the Lebanese forces today is on the rise as a result of its reconciliation with itself,” recalling that “the observations of the reformist forces within the government would have saved Lebanon what it is going through today.”

The source stressed that “the Lebanese forces demand a government of technocrats to sponsor the early parliamentary elections translate people’s rejection of the form of the current official institutions.”

With regard to the nomination of the President-designate of the Government, the strong bloc of the Republic has not yet taken its final decision in this context, where it keeps its meetings open pending the invitation of the President of the blocks for parliamentary consultations.

According to the scene, it seems that what the future sowed through the pressure in the street has not yet reaped him to ensure the return of Hariri to the government, will his supporters return to the street or will political communications another word?

Zionist puppet Twitter stops all Quds network news platforms

By: Sammi Ibrahem,Sr

sad12321

Illegally Nazi occupied Ramallah: The social networking site Twitter, on Friday, stopped all the platforms of the Quds news network documented on the site without warning.

This campaign comes in conjunction with a series of prosecutions of Palestinian content and the Quds network following the process of deletion, ban and threat of final deletion through other platforms such as Facebook, in addition to blocking the website by a decision issued by the Ramallah Magistrate Court more than two weeks ago.

There have been hundreds of thousands of followers of the various network accounts through Twitter since the establishment of the pages and accounts of the various network, which shocked the followers.

The network’s Facebook accounts have been restricted and imposed punitive measures amid fears that pages will be permanently deleted in the light of the Nazi regime pressure.

The network said in a previous statement that the imposition of restrictions and the deletion and blocking of pages is a clear bias and targeting of the Palestinian media, and in response to the the Nazi occupation, which seeks to blur the image of the full Palestine.

She explained that she is taking measures to deal with this blatant violation, which aims to “harm the Palestinian content and the absence of a narrative that disturbs the Israeli occupation.”

The administration signed the “Facebook” in 2016 an agreement with the occupation authorities to strengthen cooperation “with the aim of striking off the inciting content”, during a visit by senior officials of the company to the Israeli entity.
