Cocaine and Murder

Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion

DECEPTION: The Murder of Colonel James E. Sabow, USMC will be published by Amazon this October. This article is an excerpt from the book.

Gary Webb, an excellent investigative reporter, was found dead in his apartment on December 10, 2004. Webb’s death from two gun shots wounds to the head was ruled a suicide by Sacramento County coroner Robert Lyons.

In 1998, Seven Stories Press published Gary Webb’s Dark Alliance: The CIA, The Contras, and The Crack Cocaine Explosion. The book was based on Webb’s “Dark Alliance” investigative reporting of the crack epidemic for the San Jose Mercury News. Webb reported the sale of tons of cocaine to LA street gangs with the profits used to support the Nicaraguan Contras. Military aircraft were used to ferry drugs from South and Central America into the U.S. El Salvador’s Ilopango Air Force Base was a major base of operations for flights carrying weapons and supplies from the US and cocaine into the US.

Webb wrote about the use of military aircraft to ferry drugs from South and Central America into the U.S., “The only air force base near Fort Worth at the time of the alleged drug flights from Ilopango was the now closed Carswell Air Force Base, the home of a Strategic Air Command squadron.” Webb reported that Allen Paul Rudd, a Colombian drug trafficker turned undercover government informant, described to federal officials a supply chain that ferried guns to the Colombian cartel, “off-loaded the guns, put cocaine abroad the planes and the cocaine was taken to United States military bases.[i]

Webb went on to report about a 1988 memo from U.S. Attorney Walter E. Furr of testimony from Allen Raul Rudd who said that the Medellin cartel’s Pablo Escobar told him “[he] had made a deal with Vice President George Bush to supply American weapons to the Contras in exchange for free passage for their cocaine deliveries into the U.S.”[ii]

Could Webb’s reporting put him a hit list? Was he writing a follow-up book to Dark Alliance? Be prepared to be labeled a ‘conspiracy nut’ if you tell others that Gary Webb was murdered and forced to write a suicide note before another pulled the trigger.

Alex Jones reported that Ricky Ross, a major cocaine dealer in LA with connections to the Contras, had spoken to Gary in the days before his death: “Gary told Ricky that he had seen men scaling down the pipes outside his home and that they were obviously not burglars but ‘government people’. Gary also told Ricky that he had been receiving death threats and was being regularly followed. It was also mentioned that Gary was working on a new story concerning the CIA and drug trafficking.” [iii]

Webb was an experienced reporter with 19 years of working for the print media, including 9 nine years with theSan Jose Mercury News. He won the Pulitzer Prize for reporting on the 1989 California earthquake.

Webb’s reporting cost him his job, his family and may have cost him his life. Despite the negative press from the national media, Webb stuck to his guns.

Our government’s War on Drugs was a joke; we were supporting cocaine trafficking to fund the Contra War. His reporting was thoroughly documented; his sources included the CIA, DEA, FBI and papers from the Iran-Contra investigation.

This all came to an end when a Southern Air Transport C-123K aircraft (a CIA proprietary aircraft) was shot down on a resupply mission in Nicaragua in October 1986. The flight logs found in this aircraft showed a ‘history of involvement with cocaine, the Medellin cartel, and the CIA.

The Iran-Contra hearings never covered the sale of cocaine to fund the Contra War. The donations from private parties, solicitations from friendly countries and profits from the sales of weapons to Iranians were headings during the Iran-Contra hearings; the star witness was Lt. Colonel Ollie North.

Even during the Iran/Contra hearings, the cocaine shipments kept coming into the US. The Contra War ended in June 1990 and still the aircraft kept ferrying cocaine into the US. Cocaine was just too good of a deal to walk away from. But, somebody tipped off the Marine Corps Inspector General and a three star general with his entourage arrived at El Toro in January 1991 to shut the operation down. If the media discovered that El Toro and other military bases were used to ship narcotics into the US, the public reaction and Congressional hearings would have been explosive.

Colonel Joseph Underwood, the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing’s Chief of Staff was removed from his position and later forced to accept an Article 15 non-judicial punishment and retirement from the Corps. The same year, Brigadier General Wayne Adams was transferred to Quantico and forced to accept an early retirement.

The one man who didn’t know about the cocaine shipments and refused to plead guilty to phony charges of misuse of government aircraft and retire from the Corps was Colonel James E. Sabow. He refused to ‘roll over’ without a fight. It would cost him his life. The Corps called his death on the base a suicide before the body was even autopsied by a civilian pathologist and the death certificate signed by the local Sheriff/Corner. He had stepped on some really big toes and was murdered by a government hit team.

Colonel Sabow was an innocent party caught up in the intrigue of an illegal covert operation that the Marine Corps wanted to shut down. The use of El Toro and other military installations for gun running and narcotrafficking was political dynamite. In comparison, Richard Nixon’s Watergate scandal was is literally child’s play. Thousands of Americans are killed from the use of crack cocaine in the 1980s. All this is done to support a covert operation to overthrow the government in Nicaragua in direct violation of the wishes of Congress and the public.

This was more than a scandal involving the Corps. The NSC knew about the gun running and drugs. Lt. Col. Oliver North’s notebooks support his knowledge of drug trafficking by the Contras. In 1980s, George H. Bush was the Vice President and a member of the NSC; Bush insisted that he was out of the loop on Iran-Contra. On December 24, 1991, President Bush pardons former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger and five others for their conduct related to Iran-Contra. Colonel Sabow’s threat to blow the whistle and insistence on a court martial to fight the false charges of misuse of government aircraft could lead to major media coverage, embarrassment to the Marine Corps, indictments of those involved in narcotrafficking, a trail to the NSC and a scandal leading to President George H. Bush and possible impeachment charges. People have been killed for less.

Pierre Sprey: They have stunning lobbying power

Editor’s note: Significant is that the stocks of four leading Armament Companies including Raytheon, General Dynamics, Boeing, Lockheed Martin have all gone up by 18%. Pierre Sprey the designer of F -15 and F -16 was on Russia Today, stating that these stocks have gone up in anticipation of further Air Strikes.

Russia Today: Defense contractors are reportedly eyeing lucrative contracts now that the military campaign in Iraq and Syria has been launched. Do you expect them to lobby for greater involvement?

Pierre Sprey is a defence analyst who spent 20 years working at the Pentagon. Wiki

Pierre Sprey is an aircraft designer, defense analyst, who spent 20 years working at the Pentagon.

Pierre Sprey: They have stunning lobbying power. That has been true for decades and it is increasing. Year by year their lobbies are thriving, they are getting more and more of their own way.

There has been essentially little change since the Bush administration into the Obama administration.

If anything, they are more powerful under the Obama administration than they were before.

And this present attack on ISIL has them ecstatic, they’re euphoric.

RT: What sort of thing could you expect to see next, after seeing the campaign is being launched against IS? Do you expect that increase in anyway?

PS: Inevitably, at least the air portion will increase. The ground portion is still kind of up in the air and will depend a lot on the politics, but beyond a shadow of a doubt this really very puny air campaign that we are running now – surprisingly small, particularly small in terms of actual bomb dropping strikes – will certainly increase. And that is very much in the interest of the military industrial complex and, of course, their congressional advocates.

RT: In your opinion, does this have a big bearing on the American economy? There is a war, so is there a spike on American economy because of the money that is generated from military contracts?

PS: There is a spike for the defense industry. It is pretty hard on the rest of the economy to say the least. The whole idea of the economic spin-off from defense spending has been a phony for decades.

RT: There have been reports of multiple flaws in one of Europe’s most advanced warplanes – the Typhoon jet fighter. As one of the designers of some advanced fighter planes – the F-15 and F-16, for example – what can you tell us about that?

US ISIS airstrikes

US ISIS airstrikes

PS: [The Eurofighter Typhoon] has never been a very good airplane. It is rather large, very expensive. Of course we build more expensive airplanes to say the least. But it is relatively unmaneuverable, far too complex for its missions, hard to maintain, and very hard to get very many sorties per week out of it because of the complexity. But that is no different than most of the airplanes being built today, and we are doing worse with the F-35.

RT: With regards to the F-22, is it for the situation which it faces now?

PS: The F-22 was a kind of Potemkin village, if you want to call it. They had to send it into combat. It has been so conspicuously absent from combat for the many years that it has been in service that people have noticed. There has been a lot of commentary, and so they finally set up a nice little mission for it, so they could try it out and do a little strike, on what proved to be an empty concrete building. I doubt you will see very much of it in combat. Partly because, of course, it is a $400 million airplane and you hardly want to risk even the accidents that might happen in combat, and partly because the airplane is so complex. It nominally flies about two times a week. So you can’t get very many sorties, you can’t try it out very often.

Bill Hicks on Presidential Agendas

Bill Hicks, was brilliant, prophetic and way ahead of his time. His only drawback in my opinion was his relentless use of the F Word, which made him look like a very angry, ranting, man. It is a pity his life was cut short by cancer.

I have this feeling man, ’cause you know, it’s just a handful of people who run everything, you know … that’s true, it’s provable. It’s not … I’m not a f’in conspiracy nut, it’s provable. A handful, a very small elite, run and own these corporations, which include the mainstream media. I have this feeling that whoever is elected president, like Clinton was, no matter what you promise on the campaign trail — blah, blah, blah — when you win, you go into this smoke-filled room with the twelve industrialist capitalist scum-f’s who got you in there. And you’re in this smoky room, and this little film screen comes down … and a big guy with a cigar goes, “Roll the film.” And it’s a shot of the Kennedy assassination from an angle you’ve never seen before … that looks suspiciously like it’s from the grassy knoll. And then the screen goes up and the lights come up, and they go to the new president, “Any questions?” “Er, just what my agenda is.” “First we bomb Baghdad.” “You got it …”

The Money and the Power: Israel’s Gambling on US Presidential Elections

The Council for the National Interest

Some things don’t change in American politics, and rich people sitting in Las Vegas with pots of cash is one of them. Joel McCleary, a friend, remembers fund-raising in Las Vegas when he was working for the Jimmy Carter campaign in 1976. The crucial Pennsylvania primary was coming up and the Carter people (their chief fundraiser was Morris Dees) needed a big wad of cash for the final push against Henry “Scoop” Jackson of Washington, known as “the senator from Boeing,” also running for the Democratic nomination and favored by powerful labor chieftains in Pennsylvania.

tough guy Joel

….as he pushed the bag full of money over, “Remember, this comes from the state of Israel. Don’t you ever forget it.”

Joel was told the go-to guy for untraceable campaign cash was Hank Greenspun, publisher of the Las Vegas Sun. Greenspun was a notoriously tough egg, former gun-runner for the Haganah, the man who, in the midst of the Cold War witch hunts, outed Senator Joe McCarthy in the Sun as a homosexual. Joel was told to act manly. Greenspun duly received him in his office. “Why the hell should I get money for Jimmy Carter?” he asked.

“Because Jimmy Carter is going to be president,” Joel answered boldly, “and if you don’t support his campaign he’ll fuck you.”

Greenspun told Joel to come back in two hours. He returned to find Greenspun sitting at a table surrounded by other toughs. In the middle of the table was a paper bag. “So the Baptist fuck wants money,” Greenspun growled, as he pushed the bag over to Joel. “Remember, this comes from the state of Israel. Don’t you ever forget it.”

jimmy carter, book

Greenspun was no doubt also sluicing money to Jackson, a particularly slavish errand boy for Israel. With Carter he was hedging his bets. Wisely, as it turned out. They called the odds right in Las Vegas. Carter won the Pennslyvania primary, beating Jackson 36 per cent to 27 per cent. Jackson pretty much gave up after that, saying frankly, “We’re out of money.”

At least Greenspun, who died in 1989, didn’t live to know that he invested $100,000 in a man later to denounce Israel as an apartheid state.

The Source of America’s Wars:

That’s how it works folks, and that is how all of the players play the game. The Lobby and the Media.

Rather simple, and rather sick, isn’t it?

And, you will notice that the tough guy is always smiling when he twists your arm. He can afford to, he has just bought it, and he now has an “unbreakable grip” on it. And, he can break it any time he wants to!

“In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist.” — President Dwight Eisenhower(1961)

Spinning in the Grave: Western Media Dig Dirt to Cover Kiev’s Atrocities

Silence on Kiev's attrocities

Silence on Kiev’s atrocities

Yes, there certainly has been «blatantly false reporting» in Ukraine – by Western mainstream news media, which have consistently failed to convey the extent of violence perpetrated by the Kiev regime against the Russian-speaking population in eastern Ukraine.

by Finian Cunningham

Strategic Culture

The Western media went into supercilious mode this week over evidence of atrocities and mass graves in eastern Ukraine committed by the Kiev regime.

Rather than dealing with disturbing facts that point to the Western-backed regime’s culpability in war crimes, Western media tried instead to divert the focus by claiming that «pro-Kremlin» Russian news outlets were guilty of crude propaganda.

Britain’s Daily Telegraph – a repository for Western intelligence – claimed that Russia was «distorting facts» over the discovery last week of mass graves near Donetsk city…

The Telegraph headline ran: «Facts distorted as Moscow claims hundreds of bodies discovered in Ukrainian ‘mass graves’».

Notice the way that the headline uses quote marks for the words ‘mass graves’. That stylistic device is aimed at casting doubt on the fact of at least three mass graves having been actually found near the village of Nzynhnia Krynka, 35 kilometres northeast of Donetsk.

The Telegraph article carries the subheading: «Pro-Kremlin media misrepresent activist while Russian-backed rebels contradict the claim and say only nine bodies found».

More on the «misrepresented activist» in a moment. But with felicitous irony, the Telegraph article includes this editorial comment: «Tendentious and blatantly false reporting on both sides has become a trademark of the war in Ukraine».

Yes, there certainly has been «blatantly false reporting» in Ukraine – by Western mainstream news media, which have consistently failed to convey the extent of violence perpetrated by the Kiev regime against the Russian-speaking population in eastern Ukraine. More than 3,000 people – mainly civilians – have been killed over the past six months since Kiev forces launched an indiscriminate assault on the region. Up to one million have been turned into refugees. But the Western media have largely remained silent, while five Russian journalists have been killed by Kiev’s military brigades.

What the Telegraph slyly effects to do in the above comment is to make out that it is being a responsible, independent news service free of «tendentious and blatantly false reporting» – unlike the supposed «pro-Kremlin» Russian media.

Meanwhile, the American government-sponsored Radio Free Europe – a propaganda outlet associated with the CIA – went even further in trivializing the issue of war crimes by inferring that the discovery of mass graves was all a Russian fabrication.

It’s headline this week went: «Murders and Gang Rapes: Moscow Spins OSCE Probe Into Ukraine ‘Mass Graves’».

Note again the use of quote marks around the words ‘Mass Graves’ aimed at undermining veracity. Also the lurid words «Murders and Gang Rapes» in the headline give the oblique impression that Moscow is guilty of sensationalism and exaggerating crimes.

The RFE article goes on to say: «Russian state media are abuzz with accusations of murder and gang-rape leveled against government forces in eastern Ukraine by a purported Western monitor».

The lexicon «abuzz with accusations» is another rhetorical device for inferring that Moscow is concocting propaganda.

So let’s deal with the «misrepresented activist» whom these two Western media reports refer to and who is central to their claim that Russia is distorting the issue.

He is named as Einars Graudins, who is described as «a Latvian activist». Apparently, Graudins seems to have been working as an independent observer, who was accompanying members of the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Latvian political scientist Einars 1

Einars Graudins

The OSCE has been charged with monitoring the current ceasefire in eastern Ukraine and investigating alleged violations. Just how Graudins ended up being in the company of the OSCE team is not known, and frankly irrelevant.

The relatively minor controversy arises because various Russian media outlets appear to have mistakenly accredited Graudins with official OSCE affiliation. Russian media appear also to have misquoted Graudins, referring to 400 unidentified bodies in Donetsk morgues, and making the assumption that these bodies were all exhumed from mass graves.

The Western media then leapt on these discrepancies with a vengeance to accuse Russia of spinning a false claim of mass graves and war crimes. But it turns out that it’s the Western media which is engaging in a squalid counter-spinning.

Radio Free Europe made sure to dig superficial dirt on the activist Graudins by labelling him as «pro-Russian and anti-American». The RFE article implies that he is «emotionally imbalanced» and an unreliable witness.

But what the Daily Telegraph and RFE are doing is distracting, unconscionably, from the much more important germane story of state-sponsored serious crime.

The facts are that three mass graves have been located near the village of Nzynhnia Krynka. Nine bodies have been recovered, showing signs of torture and execution. Local people and representatives of the Donetsk People’s Republic have verified that the victims are civilians from the locality. The local people claim that the killers were members of the Kiev regime’s military who were occupying the area for several months until recently, when the Minsk-brokered ceasefire was belatedly implemented.

The facts of the mass graves and nine human remains have been confirmed by the OSCE. On its website, dated September 24, the OSCE reports the findings of its Special Monitoring Mission (SMM), which we quote at length below verbatim:

«The ‘military police’ of ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’ (‘DPR’) told the SMM that three unmarked graves allegedly containing multiple bodies had been found; two of them were located in a coal mine Komunar near the village Nyzhnia Krynka (35km north-east of Donetsk) and one inside the village. The SMM proceeded to the scene and saw in the coal mine two areas located fifty metres apart, each containing two human bodies. All four corpses were in the process of decomposition. The SMM also saw eight 9mm Makarov pistol cartridges approximately five meters away from the bodies. Near the road on the edge of the village, the SMM observed a pile of earth resembling a grave which had a stick with a plaque, written in Russian and containing the names (or in one case – initials) of five individuals. The plaque indicated that the individuals died on 27.08.2014. On top of the plaque there was another inscription saying: ‘Died for Putin’s lies’. Neither in the coal mine nor in the village did the SMM see any forensic experts. COMMENT: The SMM cannot provide a forensic assessment of the sites».

Admittedly, the OSCE report does not impute the crime to the Kiev military. It was a cursory report, and one awaits a follow-up.

But the fact of the matter is that the OSCE confirms the existence of mass graves and a mass killing. It also implies that the culprits were Kiev regime forces because of the burials dated as August 27, 2014. That corroborates what the local people are saying: that the area was under the occupation of Kiev military units at the time of the killings.

RT Maria Finoshina has managed to reach the burial site near the village of Nyzhnia Krynka, 35 kilometers north-east of the city of Donetsk (screenshot from RT video)

RT Maria Finoshina has managed to reach the burial site near the village of Nyzhnia Krynka, 35 kilometers north-east of the city of Donetsk (screenshot from RT video)

Yet, according to the Daily Telegraph, Radio Fee Europe and other Western news media, the central fact of an atrocity committed by Kiev forces is buried under scurrilous accusations that Moscow is somehow engaging in «spinning». It is not Russia that is spinning, it is Western media, who ironically presume to be bastions of free speech and independent thinking.

This week further evidence emerged to implicate the Kiev regime. According to testimony obtained from a former member of the Dneipr Battalion, named as Sergei Litvinov, the soldier says that he was personally involved in the killing of women and children. This battalion is accused of being involved in the atrocities around Nzyhnia Krynka – the location of the mass graves.

More damning is that Litvinov says he was paid by Olig Kolomoisky to carry out the killings. Kolomoisky is one of Ukraine’s richest oligarchs and was appointed by the Kiev regime as the governor of Dnepropetrovsk. As financier for the Dneipr Battalion, he has been a key figure in prosecuting Kiev’s so-called anti-terror operation against the breakaway pro-Russian People’s Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.

Russia’s Investigative Committee says that it now has enough evidence from witnesses and forensics to charge Kolomoisky with crimes against humanity. The Committee has also filed formal charges of war crimes against Kiev’s defence minister Valeriy Heletey.

The issue of executions and mass graves is only one aspect among many gross violations committed by Kiev’s forces. This week saw another mass killing from shelling into civilian areas of Donetsk. At least 10 people were killed when a school was hit. Local people and self-defence militia blamed Kiev’s military forces for the attack. Considering that the city is under the control of the People’s Republic of Donetsk and its self-defence militia then in all probability the shell was fired by Kiev’s military, which has been besieging the city for several months.

The Kiev regime has routinely used unguided Grad rockets and air strikes against civilian centres in rebel-held areas. While the rebels may also have broken the September 5 ceasefire by attacking Kiev’s military, the latter has continually breached the truce by shelling residential districts. That, by the way, amounts to systematic war crimes committed by a regime that is wholly supported by Washington and Brussels.

However, a reader of the Daily Telegraph would never glean who was responsible for the latest shelling incident in Donetsk on Wednesday. The report reads: «Meanwhile, casualties continued to mount up on Wednesday, despite a ceasefire in the seven-month long conflict, signed on September 5. Nine civilians were killed after a mortar shell hit a bus stop in Donetsk. In a separate incident, a biology teacher, a parent and one rebel were reportedly killed when a shell smashed into a school in the city. Children in the region started school a month late on Wednesday because of the fighting».

In other words, the Telegraph report whitewashes the guilty party for that atrocity by omitting relevant claims against the Kiev regime. Radio Free Europe, by the way, didn’t seem to even bother filing any report on the latest shelling incident.

This is the complementary role played by Western media to the Kiev regime’s crimes. Counter-spin and whitewash by omission of any trace of those crimes committed by the Western-backed regime.

As the Daily Telegraph noted with supercilious preening: «Tendentious and blatantly false reporting on both sides has become a trademark of the war in Ukraine».

Make that «on one side» – the side sponsored by Western governments.

Joe Biden’s latest foot in mouth

Middle East geopolitical analyst, Sharmine Narwani, examines the breathtaking admission by US Vice President Joe Biden that America’s Sunni coalition partners have funded and armed ISIL & Co. None of the major US networks have reported this story yet – that scoop was left to Russia Today and Al Manar. Less mentioned are Biden’s comments that there are no “moderates” among Syria’s opposition fighters. The only moderates inside that country, he stresses, are “shopkeepers, not soldiers.”

Biden may be known to often put his foot in his mouth, but this time he has done the world a favor, notes Ms. Narwani.

by Sharmine Narwani

Joe Biden latest foot-in-mouth comments could scuttle the US’s plans for Syria.

Joe Biden latest foot-in-mouth comments could scuttle the US’s plans for Syria.

When Joe Biden gets candid, he really lets rip. The US vice president, speaking at the John F. Kennedy Jr Forum at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics, on Thursday told his audience – point blank – that America’s Sunni allies are responsible for funding and arming Al Qaeda-type extremists in Syria.

And he named names: Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, specifically. Others – like Qatar – are undoubtedly complicit too, but Biden’s comments were made off-the-cuff during the question and answer period following his prepared statement.

Of course, much of what Biden said has been suspected for years by Syria watchers, but to acknowledge this outright during the early days of President Barack Obama’s much-vaunted ISIL-busting Coalition – featuring these very same Sunni Arab partners – is a jaw-dropping concession.

But that’s not all. Biden also managed to fundamentally undermine his administration’s efforts to train and arm “moderate” Syrian rebels today, by claiming there is no “moderate middle (in Syria) because the moderate middle are made up of shopkeepers, not soldiers.”

Keep in mind now that just two weeks ago Congress approved – at the request of this White House – $500 million dollars to train and arm “moderate” Syrian rebels. Obama’s second-in-command is saying there are none of those, so who exactly are US forces teaching to fight with heavy weapons in Saudi training camps today?

Let’s go directly to the Q&A session following Biden’s speech. Here is an unedited version taken from the audio recording released on The White House’s YouTube channel:

Question: In retrospect do u believe the United States should have acted earlier in Syria, and if not why is now the right moment?

Biden: The answer is ‘no’ for 2 reasons. One, the idea of identifying a moderate middle has been a chase America has been engaged in for a long time. We Americans think in every country in transition there is a Thomas Jefferson hiding beside some rock – or a James Madison beyond one sand dune. The fact of the matter is the ability to identify a moderate middle in Syria was – there was no moderate middle because the moderate middle are made up of shopkeepers, not soldiers – they are made up of people who in fact have ordinary elements of the middle class of that country. And what happened was – and history will record this because I’m finding that former administration officials, as soon as they leave write books which I think is inappropriate, but anyway, (laughs) no I’m serious – I do think it’s inappropriate at least , you know, give the guy a chance to get out of office. And what my constant cry was that our biggest problem is our allies – our allies in the region were our largest problem in Syria. The Turks were great friends – and I have the greatest relationship with Erdogan, which I just spent a lot of time with – the Saudis, the Emiratis, etc. What were they doing? They were so determined to take down Assad and essentially have a proxy Sunni-Shia war, what did they do? They poured hundreds of millions of dollars and tens, thousands of tons of weapons into anyone who would fight against Assad except that the people who were being supplied were Al Nusra and Al Qaeda and the extremist elements of jihadis coming from other parts of the world. Now you think I’m exaggerating – take a look. Where did all of this go? So now what’s happening? All of a sudden everybody’s awakened because this outfit called ISIL which was Al Qaeda in Iraq, which when they were essentially thrown out of Iraq, found open space in territory in eastern Syria, work with Al Nusra who we declared a terrorist group early on and we could not convince our colleagues to stop supplying them. So what happened? Now all of a sudden – I don’t want to be too facetious – but they had seen the Lord. Now we have – the President’s been able to put together a coalition of our Sunni neighbors, because America can’t once again go into a Muslim nation and be seen as the aggressor – it has to be led by Sunnis to go and attack a Sunni organization. So what do we have for the first time?

The audio clip ends there. While you are taking a moment to readjust your worldview and re-categorize the ‘good guys’ and bad guys,’ do also note the veiled swipe Biden takes at former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton whose recent book criticizes Obama’s Syria decisions while he is still a sitting president.

Hillary: What difference does it make?

Before you allow Biden to transfer all blame for the radicalism in Syria onto the convenient Muslims-du-jour, consider for a moment the US’s role in all of this.

We have press reports that the CIA was a major conduit for the transfer of weapons from Libya to Syria – a role, no doubt, facilitated by US Ambassador Christopher Stevens who was killed in Benghazi by unknown extremists.

We are also told that the US assisted in the logistics of delivering a Saudi-bankrolled transfer of Croatian weapons in 2012 to Syrian ‘rebels.’ According to the BBC: “The CIA is also reported to have been instrumental in setting up the alleged secret airlift of weapons from Croatia. And here is The Telegraphs take on things:

“The shipments were allegedly paid for by Saudi Arabia at the bidding of the United States, with assistance on supplying the weapons organised through Turkey and Jordan, Syria’s neighbors.”

These weapons were later caught on video in the hands of Ahrar al-Sham, which today is a target of US airstrikes inside Syria. The New York Times goes further:

“With help from the C.I.A., Arab governments and Turkey have sharply increased their military aid to Syria’s opposition fighters in recent months, expanding a secret airlift of arms and equipment for the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, according to air traffic data, interviews with officials in several countries and the accounts of rebel commanders.”

“From offices at secret locations, American intelligence officers have helped the Arab governments shop for weapons, including a large procurement from Croatia, and have vetted rebel commanders and groups to determine who should receive the weapons as they arrive, according to American officials speaking on the condition of anonymity.”

Exactly how does that exonerate Americans from delivering weapons to “Al Nusra and Al Qaeda?”

Biden’s comments on Thursday were a bombshell that will be heard across the globe. They will fundamentally undermine Obama’s attempts to arm “moderate rebels” and assemble a coalition that includes the very same Sunni Arab states that have helped create ISIL.

So what did the mainstream US media say about it? Nothing. Zip. Nada.

No – wait. There were headlines about Biden’s speech – let me be fair. But this is what CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox News pulled out of their collective hats:

CNN: “Joe Biden gets colorful on being a VP – and it rhymes with glitch.” This, a reference to Biden’s use of the word “bitch” in jokingly describing the job of a vice president.

CNN (again): “Joe Biden explains how Ebola is like ISIS.”

ABC: “This might be the best thing Joe Biden’s ever said.”  Another reference to the ‘bitch’ comment.

NBC: “Vice President Joe Biden’s Foul-Mouthed Quip on Job Draws Laughs.”  Bitch, again.

CBS: “Joe Biden’s salty description of being VP.”  Yawn.

Fox: “Biden on being Vice President: It’s a b-itch.”  Kill me now.

Enough said. Washington’s partners in fighting extremism – and trampling all over international laws to do it – are the same ones who have fueled it. The Vice President of the United States just said so. And Americans are snickering over the B-word. Leaders of the free world indeed.

… by  Jim W. Dean,  VT Editor

The United States has been placing its firepower around Russia and China as part of a new Cold War policy which is aimed at beleaguering the two countries, says an American journalist.

YouTube – Veterans Today –
“What we are seeing now with this talk of a new missile deployment by the US to South Korea it just the same old game of deploying firepower as part of the new Cold War trying to surround Russia and China,” said Jim W Dean, a managing editor and columnist at Veterans Today.

He made the remarks as a high-ranking American defense official said on Wednesday that Washington is trying to find an appropriate site for Terminal High Altitude Area Defense or THAAD in South Korea.

US Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work said the “defensive missiles” are “strategic assets” of the United States and their movement requires “very, very important national level decision,” according to a transcript of his comments.

Dean criticized US officials for describing deployment of their missile systems as a defensive measure.

“The US always claims that these are just defensive deployments just to protect US allies and interests in the region.”

He also said Washington has been using North Korea as a pretext to pursue its policies in the region. Dean added that North Korea and its nuclear program cannot be considered a real threat against the US military.

“The US navy can destroy all of North Korea’s launch facilities in a matter of an hour if they were a real threat and in a second hour they could take out any nuclear facilities that they possibly have.”

Pro-Russians launch new attacks to seize Donetsk airport

Pro-Russians launch new attacks to seize Donetsk airport

The Republic fighters lost many in their earlier attempt to retake the airport

The Republic fighters lost many in their earlier attempt to retake the airport

[ Editors Note:  It was quite a nasty move for Kiev to have its Donetsk airport position used as an artillery base to shell a school zeroed in for its opening day.

Most of those killed were parents who had taken their kids to school. There was nothing sneaky about the attack, and “in your face” style one.

This of course means that Kiev is not worried about any condemnation from the US and the EU now that the new equipment that has come in from the donating nations has arrived. One can assume that the countries who sent it expect it to be used.

Part of the ceasefire included having all “volunteers leave”. How this was to be confirmed is anyone’s guess. Once they have gone it is harder for the Republics to get them back quickly, so they would be out of the way for a quick Kiev attack. The monitors will be on the spot here, to see what happens as a result of their reports. So far we have not heard a peep about anyone shelling being apprehended for a ceasefire violation.

What the monitors really need of course is an armed drone capacity of course, so they can fire on and take out any ceasefire violators, with video cam recording of the strike and all of those niceties.  Of course they would never allow the monitors to have that capacity, despite its making perfect sense, and something that actually encourages violations.

Anyone want to bet that the White house denounces the Republics’ move to secure the airport from further shelling of civilians, but not the shelling itself? … Jim W. Dean ]

Pro-Russia forces operating in eastern Ukraine have reportedly stepped up their military operations to take control of a government-held airport in the volatile city of Donetsk.

The Ukrainian military said on Thursday that pro-Russia forces launched fresh attacks in the areas near the airport situated northwest of Donetsk, using tanks, multiple-launch rocket systems and mortars.

Vladyslav Seleznyov, a spokesman for the Ukrainian military, said Kiev’s troops repelled four attacks on the airport on Wednesday evening.

In recent weeks, pro-Russians have made numerous attempts to capture the strategic airport, which has been used by Kiev’s troops to shell their positions inside the restive city.

On Wednesday, at least 10 people were killed and several others wounded in the shelling of a school and nearby areas in Donetsk’s northern part.

The fresh wave of fighting in the eastern Ukrainian city comes despite a Russian-proposed truce agreement signed between pro-Russians and Kiev on September 5. Both sides have traded accusations of violating the peace deal.

Ukraine’s mainly Russian-speaking regions in the east have witnessed deadly clashes between pro-Moscow activists and the Ukrainian army since Kiev launched military operations to silence pro-Russians in mid-April.

Violence intensified in May after Donetsk and Lugansk regions held local referendums, in which their residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of independence from Ukraine. The United Nations says over 3,500 people have been killed during the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

They Expected Iran From The East – They Got Da’esh From The West

by Sami Jami Jadallah

Zionist King of Jordan

In 2004 King Abdallah of Jordan was the first one to introduce the term “ Shiite Crescent” and warn his fellow Arab heads of states of the danger of an emerging Middle East with a Shiite majority extending from Lebanon, through Syria to Iraq down to Kuwait, Bahrain and Eastern Saudi Arabia.

King Abdallah while fearful of the “Shiite Crescent”” sponsored from the East (Iran) never anticipated the emergence from the West of a well funded, well trained, well armed Da’esh the “Sunni” terrorists group of chopped heads and all night fornication. The “Shiite Crescent” never proved to be any significant threats to Jordan or Saudi Arabia while Sunni “Da’esh” proved a real and present danger to all of the Arab countries within the “Shiite Crescent”.

King Abdallah of Jordan was quite worried that the Sunnis of Iraq will be marginalized, and they were. That Iran with powerful allies in Iraq will play a major role within Iraq and it did. King Abdallah was right on both counts. The 2005 parliamentary election in Iraq showed a solid “Shiite” majority with a very marginalized Sunni minority. King Abdallah’s fear, of course was viewed within the context of a powerful Hezbollah in Lebanon and a minority Alewite controlling Syria and agitating Shiite majority in Bahrain and a minority within Saudi Arabia Eastern Province.

Thanks to the American invasion of Iraq supported by the majority Sunni Arabs, Iran emerged as the biggest winner from the war on Iraq with powerful and ambition “sectarian” friends within Iraq. The American’s made sure they send their best “dual nationals” to Iraq to make sure Iraq will never emerge as a “united powerful country” and this objective served the Iranians well since they too shared the vision of a weak divided Iraq.

However the election of Nour Almalki, as prime minister, a very vindictive, sectarian if not inept and incompetent corrupt leader (no different from Saddam) no doubt did more damage and harm to the cause of a united Iraq and “Shiite” than any of the Iraqi “Sunnis” combined. He promoted and presided over a divided Iraq along sectarian and ethnic line. Failed to rebuild a “national’ Iraqi army that historically while proven to be inept at wars was quite good at supporting dictatorship and keeping Iraq united and together.

President Barack Obama admitted in an interview last week that the CIA and the other American intelligence agencies failed to estimate the strength and resilience of “Da’esh”. Now the CIA can join Arab Intelligence services at being” most unintelligent” services which also failed to underestimate the danger presented by Da’esh with its committed and loyal mercenaries.

I am trying to find answers to the puzzle. How can such a group emerge within a short period of time, well organized, well equipped enough to route the $50 billions 400,000 strong Iraqi army? Where these mercenaries come from? How they were able to get into Syria and move on to Iraq? How they were able with little training rout an American “trained” Army. Of course that does not speak well of both the Americans certainly the Iraqis?

I am sure these mercenaries did not parachute into Syria. They must have come through Turkey. There is simply no other way to explain it? How tens of thousands coming from all over Europe, North Africa even Saudi Arabia can come into Syria without coming through Turkey of course unless Bashar Assad was part of the game. Turkey can deny this till its blue in the face.

It is hard to believe that these mercenaries for the most part coming from marginalized societies and families within Europe Muslim communities and even more marginalized communities in North Africa with hardly enough food for the day can pay for the ticket to Turkey, meet their sponsors and find their way to training camps. Some one with big bucks has the money to recruit and pay for all of these mercenaries.

From what we have seen, no way that these recruits can succeed in having basic training of couple of weeks to route “professional armies” capture substantial weapons such as tanks, missiles, trucks, water and fuel tankers without the “logistical” support of well funded organizations such as the CIA, MI6 and of course the Israeli Mossad. Arab intelligence services could never succeed in doing such a good job given their poor performance at whatever they do. And we can see this from the support given to the Anti-Assad forces.

King Abdallah’s reference to the “Shiite Crescent” was perhaps the first “salvo” in a well-organized well-funded “sectarian war” being waged by both Sunnis and Shiites. Almost every one whose who in the Middle East jumped on the bandwagon.

Forget about Israel and its occupation of Palestine; forget about poverty and absence of infrastructure in Egypt, or political and ideological divisions within Libya and to certain extent Tunisia. Forget about the turmoil and the daily violence in Yemen and the successful destruction of Syria by both Bashar Assad and the Syrian resistance. Forget about the “Arab Spring”. Think about Da’esh.

Now Arab countries must contend and deal with a scrooge, a plague called Da’esh, an “Islamic Sunni terrorism” which together with the US, they have nurtured and sponsored in Afghanistan and now spread every where.

One can only lament on the trillions wasted in continuous wars, which the Arabs spent on wars since the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, Saddam war on Iran, the invasion of and liberation of Kuwait, the American invasion of Iraq, the civil war in Syria, the destruction of Libya and Yemen, and the military coupe in Egypt.

This Holiday Season, there is nothing to celebrate. Do the Arab people deserve all this waste of money, all this failings, all the destruction, all the marginalization, all the poverty, all the killings and murderers, all the defeats, the corruptions, the looting, all the failings, all this “leadership”?

Note: France, the US, Spain, England, Japan all preceded Da’esh in chopping heads years and centuries before. France even issued a commemorative postal stamp in 1912 showing the chopped heads of Moroccan resistance fighter near the city of Meknes.

UK PM declares 9/11 and 7/7 Truthers must be dealt with as harshly as ISIS

The recent speech by UK Prime Minister (PM) David Cameron proposed dealing with “non-violent extremists” as harshly as with ISIS.

UK PM declares 9/11 and 7/7 Truthers must be dealt with as harshly as ISIS

by Jim Fetzer and Nick Kollerstrom

“[T]hat 9/11 was a Jewish plot or the 7/7 London attacks were staged; the idea that Muslims are persecuted all over the world as a deliberate act of Western policy [are lies]“–David Cameron

In his vocabulary, “non-violent extremists” are those who challenge the truth of the official narrative of 9/11 or what the UK has claimed about the London 7/7 subway bombings.

He appears to be unaware or deliberately ignorant of the mountain of proof that 9/11 was brought to us compliments of the CIA, the Neo-Cons in the Department of Defense and the Mossad.

Moreover, we know that 7/7 was a contrived event, where we have documentaries and books that demonstrate it was done by MI-5 using four young Muslim men in the role of patsies.

Calling his bluff, the leading expert on 7/7who is also a student of 9/11, responded to the PM’s absurd position by turning himself in to Scotland Yard as a “non-violent extremist”, but Scotland Yard refused to arrest him.

David Cameron’s speech to the UN

The distinction between “violent extremists” and “non-violent extremists” should be apparent to all: violent extremists take actions to promote their cause through the use of violence–suicide bombings, blowing up mosques and beheading journalists come to mind–where non-violent extremists are critics of the official narratives who exercise their intellects to dissect the blatant dimensions of these fabricated events as an exercise in thought.  So unless there is no distinction to be drawn between thought and action, the Prime Minister’s position is simply absurd:
YouTube – Veterans Today –

This year, Al- Qaeda had to be replaced as the new demonized enemy-image for the public to despise, because even US Marines had been holding placards saying, “I will not fight against al-Qaeda in Syria.” So here we have David Cameron blustering about the new ISIL menace durng his UN speech and why it justifies the re-bombing of Iraq and now Syria.  This name, now contracted to “Islamic State”, has the great advantage of tying the word “Islam” directly to “terrorism”. This new ‘enemy’ is being used as excuse to invade Syria, plus also to facilitate the division of Iraq into three countries.

But, some believe that the Prime Minister may have gone too far in this UN speech, in trying to demonize “truthers”. He has developed the novel concept of “nonviolent extremists”, who, he avers, somehow stimulate groups like ISIL and al-Qaeda to spring up. The reasoning here is truly bizarre. There may be a problem with British Muslims going out to Syria to fight against the Assad government, because they do not want a secular government to exist.  But “non-violent extremism” is another distorted and indefensible concept, whereby the UK government can arrest anyone it wants.

Challenging the PM’s indefensible position

Maybe Cameron’s advisers have not apprised him that the leader of ISIL, Al-Baghdadi (aka Simon Eliot or rather Elliot Shimon), has both Jewish mother and father and is a Mossad agent. Maybe they have not told him that the beheading videos were fairly obviously fakes with no real blood, which seem to emanate from a group called SITE by Zionist agent Rita Katz. Jim Fetzer was interviewed by Press TV about the PM’s posture on “non-violent extremism” after his speech:
YouTube – Veterans Today –

Some sensible observations about Cameron’s clamoring for more wars in Iraq and Syria has been written theDaily Mail journalist, Peter Hitchins, in an article entitled,  “Dragged into a war by clowns who can’t even run a railway”, who notes, “A year ago, we were on the brink of aiding the people we now want to bomb, and busily encouraging the groups which have now become Islamic State. Now they are our hated foes. Which side are we actually on? Do we know?” Indeed, the entire ISIL (or “IS”) development appears to be a marketing strategy to get the American public to support bombing in Syria, which is being disguised as an attack on ISIL but has the intent of damaging the infrastructure to weaken Assad.

The 7/7 London subway bombings

How shameful that Britain’s Prime Minister feels at liberty to make such patronizing remarks towards Iran at the UN, calling it to change its policies over support for “terrorist organizations”, its “nuclear program” and its “treatment of its people”, to which the President of Iran has replied. All 16 of the US intelligence agencies converged in the conclusion that Iran was not pursuing a nuclear weapons program in 2007, which they reaffirmed in 2011. But more interesting in relation to “non-violent extremism” is that the evidence 7/7 was brought to London by the government itself is simply overwhelming. Here, for example, is a documentary by John Hill that exposes the entire event in the space of an hour:
YouTube – Veterans Today –

To demonstrate the (feigned or genuine) ignorance of the PM about the 7/7 event, Nicholas Kollerstrom discovered that the four young Muslim men, who were alleged to have committed the bombings, had been unable to reach those tube stops because the train from Luton, which they would have had to have caught in order to be in place on time, had been cancelled that day, which is all the more reason to conclude that David Cameron is either extremely naive or else the embodiment of duplicity, since he surely has to know that the research he is assailing on 9/11 and 7/7 is well-founded.

Nichols Kollerstrom turns himself in

In response to Cameron’s remarks equating persons who question the 9/11 and 7/7 attacks in the US and UK and the West’s policy towards the Middle East with Takfiri preachers who radicalize extremists, Nicholas Kollerstrom, as a student of 9/11 and 7/7, who qualifies as a “non-violent extremist” by the PM’s new definition, recognizing himself as one of those who encompassed by this concept, surrendered to Scotland Yard and brought a copy of his book as evidence:

Nick turning himself in

Click here for “9/11 Activist hands himself in as a ‘non-violent extremist’” (Press TV)

Explaining his actions to the Press TV correspondent in London, Kollerstrom said, “David Cameron has redefined ‘terrorism’ at the UN to include people who believe that the London bombings involve government complicity [and] were to some degree arranged, which I certainly do believe–and I’ve published a book on the subject–and also I believe the 9/11 was an inside job. I do think Islamic nations are being selectively targeted, it’s perfectly obvious, and if the police force are going by his directive what constitutes terrorism, it seems to me that they need to arrest me.”

The Press TV correspondent was present while Kollerstrom handed himself in. “We want to report a possible terror threat, we’ve got a bit of evidence and wonder if we could come in and report it,” Kollerstrom said at Scotland Yard headquarters in London, offering a copy of his book as proof. Scotland Yard refused to accept the book or arrest Kollerstrom, who observed that the definition of “nonviolent extremism” will lead to the arrest of many Muslims who share his views, as another example of UK racial profiling. Others have expressed interest in following his lead, which could become a movement.

False Flag Weekly News

As reported on this weeks edition of “False Flag Weekly News” (with Kevin Barrett and Jim Fetzer), the Islamic State contretemps appears to be a public relations stunt by the Obama administration, which had been thwarted by the public outrage over his proposal to fire cruise missiles into Syria in response to the gas attacks falsely attributed to the Syrian government, which Russia promptly refuted with 50 pages of documentation that it had been launched by the so-called “rebels”, apparently supplied by Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia. The rise of the IS phenomenon are simply staggering:

US attacking Syrian infrastructureClick here for the latest False Flag Weekly News: US attacking Syrian infrastructure, not IS

That we are being bamboozled is clear. Alan Sabrosky has reported that the US is targeting the Syrian infrastructure, not IS (to weaken Assad), which has been confirmed by other reports; that the US is taking out oil refineries and grain silos; where the EU ambassador to Iraq admits that the EU is buying oil from ISIS;where IS is being advised by a US General Vallely (ret.); and where the US is spending $200 million every week both supporting and attacking the threat. The CIA is funding ISIS.
YouTube – Veterans Today –

Even the beheadings are fake, but still good enough to dupe a gullible American public

Perhaps most telling of all is that a new terrorist entity, the Khorasan group, has been invented out of thin air in order to claim that it poses an “imminent threat” to the United States in order to justify American strikes in another nation without securing the permission of the UN Security Council, because one nation may attack another under the Charter of the United Nations only if it has permission from the Security Council “unless it confronts an ‘imminent threat’”. So between David Cameron and Barack Obama, we see the depths of depravity to which the West will sink to attack Syria.

And all of this is being done to promote the agenda of the Project for the New American Century, which needed a new Pearl Harbor to reverse US foreign policy from one in which we never attacked any nation that had not attacked us first to one in which we have become the greatest aggressor nation the world has ever seen and are undertaking one war after another on behalf of Israel by dismantling every Arab nation that served as a counterbalance to its domination of the Middle East, which it aspires to control from the Tigris-Euphrates to the Nile, which is why we are still there today.

Libya in Free Fall

by Stephen Lendman

Wherever America shows up, mass slaughter, destruction, instability and unspeakable human misery follow.

On March 19, 2011, Obama lied saying:

“Today I authorized the Armed Forces of the United States to begin a limited military action in Libya in support of an international effort to protect Libyan civilians. That action has now begun.”

“In this effort, the United States is acting with a broad coalition that is committed to enforcing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, which calls for the protection of the Libyan people.”

In September 2010, James Petras’ article Imperialism and Imperial Barbarism explained what’s become all too familiar.

“The organizing principle of imperial barbarism is the idea of total war,” he said. Tactics include:

  • mass destruction weapons use;
  • ravaging and destroying entire countries and societies;
  • dismantling “the entire civil and military apparatus of the state;” and
  • replacing it with “colonial officials, paid mercenaries and unscrupulous and corrupt satraps.”

Stooge governance with no legitimacy. Or as Petras explained:

“The entire modern professional class is targeted…(It’s) replaced by retrograde religious-ethnic clans and gangs, susceptible to bribes and booty-shares.”

“All existing modern civil society organizations are pulverized and replaced by crony-plunderers linked to the colonial regime.”

“The entire economy is” disrupted by “shock and awe” bombings and ground attacks. They destroy essential civilian infrastructure on the pretext of demolishing military and “dual use” targets.

US-led NATO is a ruthless killing machine. It’s for offense, not defense. It deplores peace and stability. It wages permanent wars. It threatens humanity’s survival.

Its “responsibility to protect” (R2P) claim is rubbish. It’s subterfuge for war without mercy. It’s Trojan Horse deception. Months of terror bombing ravaged Libya.

Tens of thousands were murdered in cold blood. Multiples more were injured and/or displaced.

Violence, instability, insecurity and chaos reflect daily life. No end in sight looms. Millions of Libyans live in constant fear.

Obama bears full responsibility for ravaging, destroying, raping and plundering North Africa’s most developed country. Anarchical charnel house conditions replaced it. Dystopian harshness persists.

Libya under Gaddafi was paradise compared to now. His Green Book said:

“The house is a basic need of both the individual and the family, therefore it should not be owned by others.”

“Women, like men, are human beings.”

“…(A)ll individuals have a natural right to self-expression by any means…”

“In a socialist society no person may own a private means of transportation for the purpose of renting to others, because this represents controlling the needs of others.”

“The democratic system is a cohesive structure whose foundation stones are firmly laid above the other (through People’s Conferences and Committees). There is absolutely no conception of democratic society other than this.”

“No representation of the people – representation is a falsehood. The existence of parliaments underlies the absence of the people, for democracy can only exist with the presence of the people and not in the presence of representatives of the people.”

Gaddafi rejected Western-style democracy. He did so for good reason. He deplored predatory capitalism.

It’s one of many reasons why he was ousted. He used Libya’s oil revenues responsibly. He provided social services Americans can’t imagine.

Libyans lost what may never be restored. Benefits included free electricity. Interest-free loans from state-owned banks.

Homes considered a human right. Generous $50,000 stipends given newlyweds to begin married life, buy a home and start a family.

Free healthcare and education. Free land, facilities, equipment, seeds or livestock for Libyan farmers.

Government-funded education and healthcare abroad plus $2,300 monthly for expenses.

Subsidies of 50% for car purchases. Gasoline at about 53 cents a gallon.

Freedom from IMF and other external debt bondage. Salaries paid new graduates until jobs were found.

A percent of oil revenue automatically credited to individual citizen bank accounts. Generous $5,000 payments given new mothers.

Practically free bread: 40 loaves for around 15 cents total. Gaddafi’s Great Man-Made River (GMMR) project.

It made the desert bloom. It provided free water. Gaddafi called it the 8th wonder of the world. He did so for good reason.

He developed an ocean-sized aquifer beneath Libyan sands. It was decades-long work in progress.

What he created, US-led NATO destroyed. Connecting pipelines and infrastructure were targeted.

Depleted uranium weapons were used. Doing so irradiated clean, fresh water.

Free supplies no longer exist. Western corporate predators exploit them for profit.

Turmoil and collapse reflect today’s Libya. Conditions are horrific. Militia gangs control local areas. Battleground conditions affect the entire populated north.

Central governance is more illusion than reality. In July, Washington’s Tripoli embassy was evacuated.

Diplomatic staff was relocated to neighboring Tunisia. Doing so by air was too dangerous.

Moving personnel required dozens of marines. It was “due to the ongoing violence,” State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf said.

UN authorities moved their staff. Daily violence and instability required doing so for “security reasons,” according to UN spokesman Farhan Haq.

Libya’s US-installed stooge government sought safe refuge east of Tripoli. Armed militia gangs control the city. According to a government statement:

“Ministry and state offices in Tripoli have been occupied by armed militias who are preventing government workers from entering and are threatening their superiors.”

In late August, Russia’s UN envoy, Vitaly Churkin, said Libya is in “free fall.” Moscow’s diplomatic staff was relocated to Tunisia.

Its foreign ministry urged Russians to avoid Libya. Ongoing violence and political turmoil were cited.

In late July, the State Department “warn(ed) US citizens against all travel to Libya and recommend(ed) (those) currently (there) depart immediately.”

Its travel warning superseded an earlier May 27 one. Conditions remain “unpredictable and unstable,” the State Department said.

Violence is out-of-control. Central governance is pure fantasy. “(T)ravelers should be aware that they may be targeted for kidnapping, violent attacks, or death,” the State Department warned.

On October 3, UN authorities condemned escalated violence in Tripoli, Benghazi and other areas. It persists despite ceasefire calls.

A Friday press release called on warring parties to “redouble their efforts in order to spare the Libyan people further hardship and suffering, and to allow for an environment that will be more conducive for the dialogue planned after the Eid holidays.”

They begin this weekend after the annual Hajj’s conclusion. It’s one of the five Islamic pillars.

Muslims worldwide are required to participate in the Mecca pilgrimage once in a lifetime if they’re physically and financially able to do so.

Libya is currently experiencing its worst violence and chaos since Gaddafi’s ouster. Hundreds die monthly. Official body counts fall short of reality.

On August 25, a shameless joint US/French/German/British/Italian statement on Libya ignored what needs explaining.

It condemned ongoing violence. It failed to lay blame where it belongs. It urged “an immediate ceasefire…”

It called for “engag(ing) constructively in the democratic process” these countries deplore.

It urged “protect(ing) the rights of all libyans” they don’t give a damn about. Not now. Not earlier. Not ever.

Imperial plunder, exploitation and control alone matter. Don’t expect America and other Western countries to explain.

“We believe outside interference in Libya exacerbates current divisions and undermines (its) democratic transition,” they said.

This and similar statements are Big Lies. They’re polar opposite reality. Western monied interests and Big Oil run Libya.

Gangsterism defines things. Imperialism works this way. Destroying nations to exploit them is a small price to pay. So are mass murder and unspeakable human misery.

The State Department’s 2013 report on human rights ludicrously calls Libya a “parliamentary democracy with a temporary Constitutional Declaration that allows for the exercise of a full range of political, civil, and judicial rights.”

Things are polar opposite. Anarchal chaos explains them. The State Department admitted “rule of law” “failure.”

Conditions include “arbitrary and unlawful killings, including politically motivated killings by groups outside or only nominally under government control; torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment; and harsh and life-threatening conditions in (sometimes illegal) detention and prison facilities.”

Other human rights abuses include:

  • “arbitrary arrest(s) and detention(s);
  • lengthy pretrial detention(s);
  • denial of a fair public trial;
  • an ineffective judicial system staffed by intimidated judicial authorities;
  • arbitrary interference with privacy and home;
  • use of excessive force and other abuses in internal conflicts;
  • localized restrictions on humanitarian aid to civilians;
  • limits on the freedoms of speech and press, including violence against and harassment of journalists;
  • restrictions on freedom of religion;
  • abuses of internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, and migrants;
  • corruption and lack of transparency in government;
  • social discrimination against and societal abuse of women and ethnic and racial minorities, including foreign workers;
  • legal and social discrimination based on sexual orientation;
  • trafficking in persons; killings related to societal violence; and
  • violations of labor rights, including forced labor.”

A culture of impunity prevails. Courts barely function. State-sponsored crimes go unpunished. So do Western and corporate ones.

Rare investigations are whitewashed. Political vacuum conditions exist.

Government in name only has no power whatever. Militia gangs control things.

Libya is a classic failed state. Central authority is nonexistent. Out-of-control violence persists. Public services aren’t provided.

Corruption and criminality are rampant. Conditions are in free fall.

Political theorist/sociologist/philosopher Max Weber (1864 – 1920) said maintaining control through “a monopoly on the legitimate use of force” is essential for states to succeed.

Without it they fail. Governmental science Professor Robert H. Bates calls doing so the “implosion of the state.”

Where it’s transformed “into an instrument of predation.” Under conditions where it loses its monopoly on the use of force.

Political science Professor James Piazza says failed states experience more violence and terrorist attacks.

Conditions “take advantage of globalization, trade liberalization and exploding new technologies to perpetrate diverse crimes and to move money, goods, services and people instantaneously for purposes of perpetrating violence for political ends,” he says.

“Problems of (failed or) weakened states and transnational crime create an unholy confluence that is uniquely challenging,” he added.

Since 2005, the Fund for Peace think tank and Foreign Policy magazine publish annual Fragile States Indexes (formerly called Failed States).

Rankings are based on zero (most stable) to 10 (least stable) scores from 12 indicators. They include:

  • Mounting Demographic Pressures
  • Massive Movement of Refugees or Internally Displaced Persons
  • Vengeance Seeking Group Grievance
  • Chronic and Sustained Human Flight
  • Uneven Economic Development
  • Poverty, Sharp or Severe Economic Decline
  • Legitimacy of the State
  • Progressive Deterioration of Public Services
  • Violation of Human Rights and Rule of Law
  • Security Apparatus
  • Rise of Factionalized Elites
  • Intervention of External Actors
  • States were categorized under headings designating:
  • Very High Alert
  • High Alert
  • Alert
  • Very High Warning
  • High Warning
  • Warning
  • Less Stable
  • Stable
  • Very Stable
  • Sustainable
  • Very Sustainable

Surprisingly, Libya was characterized as Very High Warning. It ranked 41st in stability among 178 nations studied.

Given chaotic conditions, it should have scored lower. Perhaps topping the list of failed states or close to it.

Gaddafi’s Libya no longer exists. Dystopian harshness replaced it. Violence, instability, insecurity and unspeakable human misery reflect daily life. Central governance is nonexistent.

It bears repeating. Obama bears full responsibility. His entire tenure is blood-drenched. He gave ruthlessness new meaning.

He threatens humanity’s survival. World peace hangs by a thread.

Biden blames US allies for backing Jihadis

Biden blames US allies in Middle East for rise of ISIS

” Say it ain’t so Joe…say it ain’t so!” … from the Joe Jackson Black Sox scandal of 1919

… from  Russia Today

Shoeless Joe Jackson

Shoeless Joe Jackson

[ Editor’s note:  You know what I am going to say…”You just can’t make this stuff up.” Biden spilled the beans, but only some of them, on the Jihadi Frankensteins unleashed in Syria to help do what the FSA could not.

He used his high-profile Harvard talk to blame, not only our Gulf allies but, Turkey our NATO ally, who he had just visited to get assistance on fighting ISIS — the terror group for which Turkey had provided the main logistics support.

The Kurds should not be too happy to hear this, nor Iran, both of whom have extensive business relations with Turkey. I don’t claim to be a NATO rule expert, but I suspect some rather large violations of their rules on supporting terrorism,  but for which Turkey would not be the only guilty NATO party.

But Biden did lie. The US has been supporting regional terrorists, particularly the Chechens, for whom the Bush-Cheney crowd created a base in the Republic of Georgia. Our VT correspondent there, Jeffrey Silverman, has been all over that story.

The Chechen war battle-hardened core group has been among the nastiest Jihadis. Old Joe also left out Israel’s support, so he made a fool of himself by pretending to come clean. But when does Joe ever miss a chance to play the fool.

Expect to see some major leaks coming out in the next week proving extensive US involvement in state-sponsored terrorism. Yes, much of that is going to be centered around our outsourced Homeland Security terror operations, but some Neocons and the usual multinational bigwigs are involved, also. Biden did not name them because THEY can name names themselves.

As I have been covering in my interviews, Obama has nutted-out on the removing Assad Jihad, despite the total disaster it has been, and how those involved would make a great effort to absolve themselves of any responsibility.

You are watching the opening of that campaign, with the VP running interference — with chapter one being “blame the other people first”. A special contempt mention goes out to the UN crowd, who knows all of this and has not said a word. They do so love those paychecks… Jim W. Dean ]

US Vice-President Joe Biden has accused America’s key allies in the Middle East of allowing the rise of the Islamic State (IS), saying they supported extremists with money and weapons in their eagerness to oust the Assad regime in Syria.

America’s “biggest problem” in Syria is its regional  allies, Biden told students at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at  the Institute of Politics at Harvard University on Thursday.

“Our allies in the region were our largest problem in  Syria,” he said, explaining that Turkey, Saudi Arabia and  the UAE were “so determined to take down Assad,” that in  a sense they started a “proxy Sunni-Shia war”by pouring   “hundreds of millions of dollars and tens of thousands of  tons of weapons”towards anyone who would fight against  Assad.

“And we could not convince our colleagues to stop supplying  them,” said Biden, thus disassociating the US from  unleashing the civil war in Syria. “The outcome of such a policy now is more visible,” he  said, as it turned out they supplied extremists from Al-Nusra  Front and Al-Qaeda.

All of a sudden the regional powers that sponsored anti-Assad  rebels awakened to the dawn of a major international security  threat in the face of ISIS – now called Islamic State. After  being essentially thrown out of Iraq it found open space and  territory in eastern Syria and established close ties with the  Al-Nusra Front which the US had earlier declared a terrorist  group.

Now Washington needs a coalition of Sunni states to fight the  Islamic State because “America can’t once again go in to  Muslim nation and be the aggressor, it has to be led by Sunnis,  to attack a Sunni organization [the IS],” Biden said,  acknowledging that it is for the first time that the US uses a  geopolitical strategy.

“Even if we wanted it to be, it cannot be our fight  alone,” Biden said. “This cannot be turned into a US  ground war against another Arab nation in the Middle East.”

“But of what I’m more astonished is of his apparent amnesia  about what America and Britain were trying to ferment in Syria  only a year ago. They were not only putting staff intelligence  personnel on the ground, and providing logistical support to the  rebels in Syria; they were spearheading the campaign to try to  oust Assad, former MI5 agent Annie Machon told RT.

She added that “Perhaps, the Vice President is finally  learning some lessons from history. It does not matter who you  think your friends are going to be in the region. Very often they  will be taken over or subsumed into a more radical group.”
