Trump’s chaos produces results: Gulf states upgrade ties to Israel
Bahraini king holding menorah

By James M. Dorsey

A cornerstone of the Trump administration’s approach to Israeli-Palestinian peace, involving a restructuring of relations between erstwhile Middle Eastern foes appears to be taking shape: Gulf states are making long-standing covert ties to the Jewish state overt without establishing formal diplomatic relations. In the process, the Palestinians are being pressured to fall into line.

The willingness of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain to be more open about their long-standing relations with Israel reflects their growing common interest with the Jewish state in countering Iran and groups that they include in their sweeping definitions of terrorism; countering mounting criticism of their tarnished human rights records by forging closer ties to Jewish leaders in the United States; and supporting US President Donald J. Trump.

The moves boost Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu who has talked for months about “breakthroughs” in Israel-Arab relations and recently asserted that cooperation “is much larger than any other period in Israel’s history”.

In the clearest sign to date, of an upgrading of ties between the three Gulf states and Israel, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa authorised Rabbi Marvin Hier, the dean and founder of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre in Los Angeles who delivered a benediction at Mr Trump’s inauguration, to announce a series of gestures towards Israel at a ceremony at the centre’s Museum of Tolerance.

The Bahrain-funded ceremony was attended by the king’s son, Prince Nasser bin Hamad al Khalifa who, as commander of Bahrain’s Royal Guard and president of the country’s National Olympic Committee, has been accused of abusing the human rights of opponents of the government as well as athletes and sports executives who in 2011 participated in peaceful anti-government protests. Bahrain blames the protest on Iran and views Shia opponents as Iranian stooges.

The centre released at the event a Bahrain Declaration on Religious Tolerance authoured by King Hamad, the first of its kind by an Arab head of state. Prince Nasser and Mr Hier signed the declaration at the ceremony.

Gulf states hope that they can benefit from the Jewish community’s influence in the United States.

To be fair, Bahrain’s minority Sunni Muslim government, while brutally cracking down on Shias, who constitute a majority of the population and have been demanding equal rights and an end to discrimination, has long had a record of religious tolerance towards non-Muslims.

The country has Jewish representatives in parliament and at one point had an ambassador to the United States who was both female and Jewish. Nancy Khedouri, a Jewish MP, attended a recent gathering of the World Jewish Congress where she publicly met Israeli Transport and Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz.

Gulf states hope that they can benefit from the Jewish community’s influence in the United States. Their approaches come, however, at a time that the community is split in its attitude towards Mr Trump.

Jewish religious leaders this year backed away from organising a conference call with the president to mark the Jewish high holidays in protest against Mr Trump’s refusal to identify neo-Nazi’s as responsible for a the killing of a woman in Charlottesville during a white supremacist march in which anti-Semitic slogans were raised.

Denouncing Arab boycott of Israel

Mr Heir told the ceremony that he and Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the centre’s associate dean, had been authorised to make public a series of statements made to them by King Hamad during a meeting in February. In those statements, the king denounced the long-standing Arab boycott of Israel and announced his intention to build by the end of this year a museum of tolerance of his own.

Bahraini officials reportedly recently discussed with Israel the institutionalisation of mutual visits, allowing Bahraini nationals to freely travel to Israel, and opportunities for trade between their two countries. Gulf states legally ban their citizens from visiting the Jewish state.

Saudi and UAE troops helped the Bahrain government crush the 2011 popular revolt. Bahrain has since hued close to Saudi policy and would not have made its gestures towards Israel without Saudi approval.

The Bahraini overtures came a month after US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson castigated Bahrain for discriminating against Shias. “Members of the Shia community there continue to report ongoing discrimination in government employment, education and the justice system. Bahrain must stop discriminating against the Shia communities,” Mr Tillerson said.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are also in the firing line because of the brutal conduct of their two-and-a-half-year-old ill-fated invasion of Yemen as well as iron-fisted domestic abuse of human rights.

Saudi Arabia

Weeks before Bahrain’s public moves, Israeli media reported that a member of a Gulf ruling family, believed to be a Saudi prince, had secretly visited Israel in a bid to kickstart Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

Hamas, the Islamist faction that controls Gaza, said last week it was willing to negotiate with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas about joint rule of the strip and move towards long overdue elections. Debilitating rifts among the Palestinians have complicated failed peace talks.

Hamas’s willingness to bury its hatchet with the ailing Mr Abbas’s Fatah movement came as a result of a pincer movement in which the Palestinian leader sought to strangle Gaza economically while the UAE worked to engineer the return to Palestine of its protégé, Muhammad Dahlan, a controversial Abu Dhabi-based former security chief with presidential ambitions.

United Arab Emirates

The UAE effort, coupled with Gulf gestures towards Israel, stroke with the Trump administration’s efforts to create an environment conducive to Israeli-Palestinian peace by first strengthening informal ties between the Jewish state and key Arab nations. The administration has been pushing for more open relations on issues like trade as well as more open contact built on a common front against Iran and militant Islam.

The UAE in effect initiated the process when in 2015 it allowed Israel to open its first diplomatic mission in the Gulf.

Gulf states have offered to establish relations with Israel if it were to accept a 1982 Arab-endorsed Saudi plan for Israeli-Palestinian peace that called for an Israeli withdrawal from territory occupied during the 1967 Middle East war and the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel. As a result, Israel’s mission is accredited to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi rather than the UAE government but serves as an unofficial embassy to the Gulf.

The ink on Bahrain’s declaration of religious freedom had barely dried by the time that the gestures towards Israel became mired in the three-and-a-half month old Gulf crisis that pits Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Jewish leaders targeted by the three countries condemned efforts by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to meet with the Jewish community during his visit to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly. Sheikh Tamim hired a Jewish PR firm to organize meetings.

Reflecting the divisions among American Jewry, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach organized a full-page advertisement in The New York Times to denounce Jews willing to meet with the Qatari leader. “It is a shameful episode for our community when those who fund the murder of Jews in Israel are being embraced by Jews in the United States,” the advertisement said, referring to Qatari relations with Hamas that have been endorsed by the United States.

The truth about Saudi Zio-Wahhabi regime and the news media ‘VIDEO’

Did you know this happened in March?

I bet not…so here’s the story.

“One of the largest ever lawsuits relating to the September 11 terror attacks has been filed against Saudi Arabia in New York.

Families of 850 victims who died and the 1,500 injured, are suing the Middle Eastern country’s government, accusing it of providing material and financial assistance to al Qaeda in the years leading up to worst ever terrorist attack on US soil.

Of the 19 hijackers who took over the aeroplanes during the attack, 15 were from Saudi Arabia.

Barack Obama opposed the law but was overruled by Congress and since then there have been six other lawsuits filed against Saudi Arabia by the families of 9/11 victims.”

What did Trump – the New Yorker – have to say about this.

Here he is two months later in Saudi Arabia:

Suicide among veterans highest in western U.S., rural areas

Social isolation, gun ownership and access to health care may be factors

By Hope Yen

Suicide among military veterans is especially high in the western U.S. and rural areas, according to new government data that show wide state-by-state disparities and suggest social isolation, gun ownership and access to health care may be factors.

The figures released Friday are the first-ever Department of Veterans Affairs data on suicide by state. It shows Montana, Utah, Nevada and New Mexico had the highest rates of veteran suicide as of 2014, the most current VA data available. Veterans in big chunks of those states must drive 70 miles or more to reach the nearest VA medical center.

The suicide rates in those four states stood at 60 per 100,000 individuals or higher, far above the national veteran suicide rate of 38.4.

Kim Saves Trump’s Butt!

“You just can’t make this stuff up!” – Jim W. Dean

Kim Saves Trump’s Butt!

Will Trump thank Kim in Trump’s UN speech? Even with Two Million Korean, Japanese, Chinese & American deaths, clueless Americans ‘LOVE a new Korea War by Trump. How much is Trump’s ass worth?

[ Editor’s Note: Thomas lays out the age old proven ploy of how Presidents with low poll numbers love finding someone to have a war with, especially someone little, like North Korea. I am no fan of Mr. Kim, a cartoonish character, but I think he should be the North Korean people’s problem, as so many political leaders are, like Mr. Trump.

But I do have a problem with the US putting conditions on the Korean talks, despite Kim’s offer to stop all testing. All he asked for was an moratorium on US-South Korea war-gaming drills, which is a reasonable request, backed by both China and Russia, and which the US instantly rejected. Snubbed like that in front of his people, Kim continued testing, which is exactly what I feel the US wanted him to do so Trump could play the Big Kahuna protector of America.

At this point it was all strictly theater, with Kim happily a participant in the game, but there was no way he could enter talks with preconditions when the US would accept none. It was a reminder of back when Roosevelt and Churchill had a cable phone call to toughen up the last State Department offer to Japan on the eve of WWII to make sure it was unacceptable. We have all been here before… Jim W. Dean ]

I smell a chaos theory “incident” being shopped around, with the US refusing talks with North Korea

…by Thomas J. Mattingly, for Veterans Today

A new Gallup Poll shows that Americans widely favor a Trump military strike on North Korea and Kim Jong-Un to stop Kim & Co. from developing nukes and ICBMs that can hit the U.S. No matter how quickly that Trump and the U.S. military strike North Korea, Kim’s military can fire +/-250,000 rockets, artillery shells and missiles at South Korea, Japan, Guam, Hawaii and the U.S. mainland. Maybe nukes too. +/-2 Million dead in weeks. Worth it?

As per Friday’s Gallup Poll, Americans favor Trump’s “fire and fury” approach to Kim and North Korea by a wide majority of 58% to 39% (with 82% of Republicans, 37% of Democrats and 56% of Independents favoring what amounts to a new Korean War by Trump) – if sanctions and diplomacy fail. In 2003 (as per Gallup), only 47% of Americans favored military action against North Korea and Kim’s father.

Friday, North Korea responded to new UN sanctions and to Trump’s threats against North Korea, China & Russia by firing a missile that can hit U.S. military bases on Guam.

For cause, U.S. Justice Department Independent Counsel Robert Mueller and Congress are investigating Trump’s family, Trump’s associates and Trump for criminal acts (e.g., money laundering and election collusion with Russian gangsters). Trump’s popularity among voters is at +/-35%. For various reasons, Republicans, Democrats and Trump’s ‘base’ are all upset with Trump. Removing Trump may soon be much easier – unless Trump relies on Kim for ‘help.’

If Trump’s poll numbers after reckless military action against North Korea rise from +/-35% now to a new +/-58% (those favoring Trump military action if sanctions & diplomacy fail), then Kim will have saved Trump from Impeachment & Removal – and saved Trump’s presidency.

Loosely supported by Russia, China’s position is: (1) If Kim and North Korea try to attack first, then China will remain neutral; and (2) If Trump and U.S. try to attack North Korea first, then China will ‘neutralize’ any U.S. military threats to North Korea. For support on China’s and/or Russia’s probable ability to ‘neutralize’ U.S. military threats with inexpensive electronic warfare, see VT’s De-Nuking the Trump-Kim Pissing Contest and sources linked therein.

Thus, if Trump & U.S. can provoke Kim & North Korea into doing something stupid, then China and Russia will stand down – initially. Especially after the new Gallup Poll, for Trump to save his own ass, Trump is effectively saying: ‘Obi-Won Kim, you’re my only hope!’

Both North Koreans and South Koreans are sitting ducks — more than 2 million dead in a few weeks

During the Korean War (1950 to 1953), China and ‘Russia’ sided with North Korea. More than one million Chinese troops came to the aid of North Korea (with 800,000+ Chinese casualties, as per U.S. DoD). North Korea fought a war against U.S., United Nations and South Korea. 36,000+ dead Americans, 500,000+ dead South Koreans and 500,000+ dead North Koreans. With China and Russia siding with North Korea (again), any Trump-initiated new Korean War would effectively mean World War 3. Worth it?

Unless clueless Americans come to their senses soon, then Trump & Co. can legitimately interpret the recent Gallup Poll to mean that Americans favor World War 3. South Koreans and others beg to differ. “Korean Lives Matter”? Maybe not, says Trump.

Trump will address world leaders at the UN on Tuesday. After Friday’s Gallup Poll shed light on the path to a Trump revival by using Kim and the lives of all Koreans as grist for the Trump mill, Trump’s step-and-fetch-it UN Ambassador, Nikki Haley, said that Trump will ‘slap his foes and hug his friends. In his UN speech, will Trump thank Kim for saving Trump’s butt?

On Sunday, paving a path for Trump to unleash military “fire and fury” and +/-2 million deaths, Haley said that Trump had ‘run out of options’ in the UN; and Trump National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster said Friday that “We’ve been kicking the can down the road, and we’re out of road.” Americans favor Trump’s “fire and fury” against Kim and North Korea if sanctions and diplomacy fail. So, Haley and McMaster are just removing those obstacles for Trump.

In his UN speech, will Trump thank Kim for saving Trump’s butt?

When Ivanka-tears-motivated ‘Daddy Trump’ illegally attacked a Syrian air base with NO international verification of alleged Syrian chemical weapons use and NO vote in Congress (as Trump demanded of Obama), Trump’s standing with media pundits and Congress rose.

Before 9/11, U.S. President GW Bush’s approval was falling (at 51% before 9/11). After 9/11, GW Bush’s popularity soared to the Highest in Gallup History (90%). Trump learned these lessons well. Pathologically narcissistic Trump loves adulation – no matter how short-lived.

China’s Xi Jinping, North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un and Russia’s Vladimir Putin have other plans. China, Russia, most Americans and others still favor negotiations with Kim & North Korea.

However, VT’s articles by Ian Greenhalgh and Jeff Smith (Doctor Strangelove Returns: How I Learned to Live with the North Korean Bomb andIt’s a Mad, M.A.D. World: North Korea’s Potential Arms Exports Reshape East-West Geopolitics“) show that China helped North Korea in quickly developing advanced nukes and ICBMs. Exclusive investigative journalism.

VT’s De-Nuking the Trump-Kim Pissing Contest.indicates that a comprehensive treaty to end the Korean War and to end nuke use and proliferation by all is a solution – “the only solution,” as per knowledgeable Washington insiders close to Republicans and Democrats.

Of course, Trump can propose such a comprehensive treaty in his UN speech. However, as per Trump’s ‘fetching’ & petulantly belligerent UN Ambassador, Trump will play to the Gallup-shown U.S. popularity of catastrophic military options. Make America ‘Gape’ Again?

Kim’s, My and Trump’s Motivations

The Korean War was North Korea’s 9/11 – multiplied by a few orders of magnitude. Kim and all Koreans still remember the Korean War (firsthand or secondhand). While staying at his home three times in late 1980s, a retired Korean CIA deputy director and I discussed the Korean War, Kim’s father & grandfather, and what could & should be done. Interesting talks.

My U.S. Navy Captain father served in the WW2 Pacific theater and was active in U.S. Navy reserves (stateside) during the Korean War. I remember it well (including Ike’s 1961 TV talk).

Virtually all North and South Koreans, most global leaders, and most others favor a treaty finally ending the Korean War on just terms & conditions – and an end to nuke proliferation & use by all (not just by Kim and North Korea).

Who knows about Trump? Trump may just want to thank Kim for saving Trump’s butt. Sad.

A World Doomed in a Never Ending War

Are you disappointed with Donald Trump’s bellicose continuing with the deployment in Afghanistan? Well, if you are not; you should be. Predicting a non-ideological President, who prides himself on making pragmatic decisions, raises prognostication to a new level of mystical proportions. Instilling hope during an election campaign seldom translates into dynamic action on every pledge made. Defending Trump no matter how many times he walks back on a promise is not the standard to judge his administration. Call him a turnaround artist if you wish, but the reality of the power elite inside the military, intelligence agencies and the state department is showing just how far they are willing to go to maintain their force of destructive rule.

The most astute Jack Hunter writes in 16 years ago, we began a “war on terror” that will never end. His purge from the Rand Paul staff was a signal that forecasts just how difficult it is to drain the swamp.

“When Donald Trump ran for president, he promised to end the “nation building,” particularly in a country like Afghanistan. He was going to be the leader who would reset America’s wandering foreign policy recklessness. Now Trump has completely flip-flopped, announcing the U.S. won’t be leaving Afghanistan anytime soon — the very definition of the nation building the president deplored as a private citizen and as a candidate.

Washington will wage its “war on terror” forever; new presidents will simply have to adjust. Barack Obama ran against George W. Bush’s regime change in Iraq only repeat it in Libya. Donald Trump ran against the nation building of Bush and Obama and has declared he will now do his own version in, at his generals’ behest.

Perhaps worst of all, the terrorists won. Fear perpetuates the Forever War, in which America has been stuck since 9/11. The goals of Osama bin Laden were met.”

Such bin Laden goals really share many of the same objectives of the globalists who are the driving element underpinning the continuous no-win war environment of perpetual carnage. When the Senate rejects Rand Paul’s war authorization amendment, the sentiments of the stalwarts for uninterrupted empire enrichment simply will not give up the imperium.

“Many senators had deep reservations about Paul’s amendment, which would have caused the authorizations to expire within six months and compelled Congress to take new votes on ongoing military operations in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen and elsewhere.”

From one of the most prolific and astute critics of international affairs from a leftist perspective, John Pilger does not hold back in his essay, Angling for WW3: Why Is US Encircling Russia and China?

“In the last 18 months, the greatest build-up of military forces since World War Two — led by the United States — is taking place along Russia’s western frontier. Not since Hitler invaded the Soviet Union have foreign troops presented such a demonstrable threat to Russia.

Ukraine – once part of the Soviet Union – has become a CIA theme park. Having orchestrated a coup in Kiev, Washington effectively controls a regime that is next door and hostile to Russia: a regime rotten with Nazis, literally. Prominent parliamentary figures in Ukraine are the political descendants of the notorious OUN and UPA fascists. They openly praise Hitler and call for the persecution and expulsion of the Russian-speaking minority.

In Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia — next door to Russia — the U.S. military is deploying combat troops, tanks, heavy weapons. This extreme provocation of the world’s second nuclear power is met with silence in the West.

What makes the prospect of nuclear war even more dangerous is a parallel campaign against China. Seldom a day passes when China is not elevated to the status of a “threat.” According to Admiral Harry Harris, the U.S. Pacific commander, China is “building a great wall of sand in the South China Sea.”

The unspoken pattern that underpins the post WWII foreign policy of the U.S. is that America is the indispensable military enforcement for the New World Order. Those countries that pose a threat to this hegemony are systematically undermined, incuse regime change or are outright subverted to whatever extent needed to subjugate these rogue opposition to bow onto the all almighty Wall Street cabal.

The net result is to militarize the garrison outposts as the legions of domination keep a short leash around the necks of the subservient governments that threaten hostilities towards the empire.

In order to unwrap the layers of confusion, peel the onion of deception and acknowledge that the military is committed to foreign conquest, at the expense of genuine national defense.

The Power Elite in the Time of Trump by Prof. James Petras presents a most informative argument that is spot on.

“The military power elite has successfully taken over from the elected president in major decision-making. Where once the war powers rested with the President and the Congress, today a collection of fanatical militarists make and execute military policy, decide war zones and push for greater militarization of domestic policing. Trump has turned crucial decisions over to those he fondly calls ‘my Generals’ as he continues to dodge accusations of corruption and racism.”

Such an assessment is surely debilitating. Yet, who can honestly disagree with this conclusion? With America in a cultural meltdown and laboring under a debt-financed economy that can never balance its accounts, what are the alternatives to keep the global dominion from going bust?

The inevitable proxy to delay or postpone a final day of reckoning requires that the military intimidate the rest of the planet to accept the dictates of a dying realm. At the core of this premeditated indebtedness, bankrolled by the ultimate Ponzi scheme, the U.S. Dollar must retain its reserve currency function in order for the deficits to keep expanding.

Constant war is the best last resort for the establishment to remain as the global overseer. Since Trump’s inauguration as President, the deep state has schemed to derail any significant restoration of rational and redemptive national policies. Continued war still provides the cash flow to the munitionists just as the Afghanistan poppy crop pumps the drug profits into the coffers of the CIA.

The continuance of this public deception practice is at the root of the phony war on terror. One of the most under-reported scandals of modern times involves the $6.5 TRILLION MISSING FROM DEFENSE DEPARTMENT.

“A relatively obscure audit report from the Office of Inspector General of the United States Department of Defense suddenly is getting a lot of attention for what it apparently reveals: The Pentagon can’t account for $6.5 trillion.

At Armstrong Economics, the blog reported, “Once again, the office of inspector general has come up with a huge hole in the Department of Defense with a missing $6.5 trillion.”

The day before 9/11, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld admitted $2.3 trillion was missing from the Defense Department budget, noted the blog.

That figure has now grown to $6.5 trillion and counting.”

Keeping the war waste machine afloat is the supreme priority for the culture of destruction. The obvious question that the system avoids at all cost asks: does any of this extreme and unwarranted spending advance actual national security?

An honest response must admit that a foreign policy of Full Spectrum Dominance has proven to be the death nil of our country and risks the demise of the planet in the nuclear age.

Whether President Trump is a dupe from a plot of the NeoCons and NeoLibs or if he never intended to curtail the forward deployment of foreign legions of enforcers is not the point. The significant consequence is that battalions of cannon fodder continue to be sacrificed for keeping the oligarchs in power.

As the prospects of global annihilation grow closer to a nuclear winter, the popular culture plays a political blame game without ever focusing on the germane failure of the department of defense. President Eisenhower’s farewell address warning of the prosiest of the military-industrial complex was never taken sufficiently serious at the time.

In all the subsequent decades, the consolidation of the worldwide empire has grown even more menacing. If the Trump administration legacy is that of a “Mad Dog”, our best chance to reverse the NWO belligerent way of life will be lost.

With all the internal difficulties and trouble America is experiencing, the continued preserve of foreign adventurism is suicidal. War has always been a population pruner, but in this era, the culling of the herd has all the signs of a mass extermination.

The war on terror seems remote when Special Forces engage in their missions upon foreign soil. However, the popular argument that fighting overseas makes the homeland safe is specious. The blowback from perpetual interventionism is a primary cause that places a target bull’s-eye on our neighborhoods and communities.

No amount of military expenditures will ever provide true security when the underlying objective is to impose a global rule over all nations.

Syrian War Report: Syrian Army Develops Advance On Eastern Bank Of Euphrates

On September 18th, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Syrian Republcian Guard (SRG) officially crossed the Euphrates River using a pontoon bridge and amphibious vehicles. They then engaged ISIS terrorists on the eastern bank.

The SAA and the SRG advanced on ISIS positions in the Saqr Island and captured a major part of it, liberated the village of Sabha, and entered the villages of Marrat and Mazlum.

ISIS counter-attacked against government forces in both areas with the support of 3 VBIEDs but failed to stop the government advance.

According to the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq, about 40 SAA troops were killed in the clashes there.

On the northeastern flank of Deir Ezzor city, government forces liberated Hawi, Zughayr, Hamad, and Shumaytah villages and entered the nearby oil wells area.

On September 19th, the SAA and the SRG continued developing their advance on the eastern bank in order to liberate Khasham Fooganni, al Abd, at Tabiyah, Albu Muayt, and the al-Tabiyah oil field and to build a buffer zone near the SDF-held area.

Meanwhile, Russian-US negotiations continued behind the scene as the sides were attempting to reach an agreement dividing spheres of responsibility in combating ISIS in eastern Syria.

The SDF, supported by the US-led coalition, has advanced against ISIS in Ramilah, Tishrin, Al-Amin, and the Al-Hani neighborhoods of Raqqah city and captured a notable part of Ramilah and Tishrin.

Since the start of the operation in the city, the SDF has realized major progress and is now pushing towards a final stage of the operation.

3,000 US troops headed to Afghanistan—to die for I$raHell

3,000 US troops headed to Afghanistan—to die for Israel

Donald Trump (2013): “Do not allow our very stupid leaders to sign a deal that keeps us in Afghanistan through 2024—with all costs by U.S.A. MAKE AMERICA GREAT!”

Donald Trump hasn’t learned a damn thing about the past. And here we are talking about recent history, specifically the recent wars in the Middle East. He knows what happened when Bush sent thousands upon thousands of American soldiers in places like Iraq to die for Israel.

If you remember correctly, between 300,000 and 360,000 veterans returned home with brain injuries,[1] many of which went untreated.[2] By 2005, more than 6,000 soldiers serving in Iraq committed suicide.[3] In 2012, more soldiers committed suicide than died in combat,[4] making it the year with the highest suicide rate since 2001.[5]

In addition, a debt ceiling was rising every six months or so.[6] The US national debt had reached $16 trillion by the end of 2012.[7] Because of this wrecked economy, suicides in America’s civilian population have increased at an alarming rate as well.[8]

And if you are a student trying to get a decent education in order to get out of this economic sinkhole, the government is going to profit from your student loan. It was reported that the government made a profit of $51 billion in 2013 off student loans.[9]

So, what is the Pentagon’s solution to all of this? Well, they decide to send more troops to Afghanistan. Get this:

“US Defense Secretary James Mattis confirmed that over 3,000 new US troops will be headed to Afghanistan as part of President Donald Trump’s new strategy to win the war that has dragged on for almost 16 years.”[10]

3,000 new US troops in Afghanistan will help win the war “that has dragged on for almost 16 years”? Isn’t that worse than stupid? And who are those puppets fooling this time? “Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described the new strategy as a ‘dead end,’ while Pakistan and China were critical of Washington’s approach, noting there was ‘no military solution’ to the situation in Afghanistan.”[11]

No politician has been able to tell the American people why more US troops need to die in Afghanistan—for Israel. Keep also in mind that Trump himself railed against US troop engagement in Afghanistan long before became president. Here is what Trump said back in 2012: Afghanistan is a complete waste. Time to come home!

In March of the following year, Trump tweeted that U.S. troops “should leave Afghanistan immediately. No more wasted lives.” In January of the same year, he declared: “Let’s get out of Afghanistan. Our troops are being killed by the Afghanis we train and we wasted billions there. Nonsense! Rebuild the USA.” Trump again couldn’t resist stating:

“I agree with Pres. Obama on Afghanistan. We should have a speedy withdrawal. Why should we keep wasting our money—rebuild the U.S.! We have wasted an enormous amount of blood and treasure in Afghanistan. Their government has zero appreciation. Let’s get out!”

And then this:

“Do not allow our very stupid leaders to sign a deal that keeps us in Afghanistan through 2024—with all costs by U.S.A. MAKE AMERICA GREAT!”

So, why can’t Trump look at himself in the mirror and simply ask himself basic questions about perpetual wars? Why can’t he give the American people a solid foreign policy? He obviously has the answers to these questions, but he will never flesh them out to the American people because Israel is the only reason America is still finding monsters to kill in the Middle East. As Jim W. Dean has recently put it:

“Trump has obviously made a deal with Netanyahu and Saudi Arabia, with their Syrian plans failing, that he would try to make it up to them by sticking it to Iran with more sanctions.”

Trump is causing trouble in the Middle East because the Israeli regime tells him what to do. If fighting terrorism was his main goal, he would almost certainly go after terrorist states like Saudi Arabia, which destroyed Yemen and imposed a blockade on Qatar.[12]

Iraq breakup will lead to global conflict: Turkish minister

Turkish Defense Minister tells Ankara’s opposition to planned Kurdish independence in Iraq will lead to a global conflict.

… from Press TV, Tehran

[ Editor’s Note: Turkey has armored forces deployed north of Idlib province on the Syrian border, and on the Iraqi border, also. Both are invasion forces but there has been little press on the infantry and air cover that would be needed for them.  Recent air strikes have been made against the PKK in SE Turkey.  Similar forces are on the NE border of Syria where the Kurdish SDF has been active.   If a shooting war begins in Iraq, which could easily happen with both parties on high military alert and where things can happen accidentally, could it become a regional conflict as the Turkish Defense Minister says? So far, the few shooting incidents in Kirkuk have been limited to excited young people and neither side has over reacted.

Dear readers. This babe ad above magically inserted itself, with no visible code. We will be looking into how that happened…JD

If Turkey were to intervene in Syria, would the Turkish Kurds begin attacks to pin down forces there, and then have to endure the retribution treatment that the Turkish Army has shown it can do?

I don’t see the global conflict that Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli does, but that he is being this alarmist shows he wants world attention on the situation now. But with only Israel claiming to support an independent Kurdistan, who would be involved in such a “world conflict” over a Kurdish referendum? Turkey could have cut off Kurdish access to its oil export pipeline, which would be a huge financial blow to Iraqi Kurdistan, but Turkey has not done so. What would it be waiting for?

Let us hope that wiser heads prevail and this referendum is just a bluff by the Kurds to get a bigger share of their oil wealth. But once the deal is renegotiated , how long would be be for another demand to follow when the last one was in 2014? ... Jim W. Dean ]

Who will control Kurdish oil?

–  First published  …  September 19,  2017  –

Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli has reiterated Ankara’s opposition to a planned Kurdish independence referendum in northern Iraq, warning that disintegration of Iraq will lead to a global conflict.

During a Tuesday speech in Ankara, Canikli described the planned referendum as a major risk for his country and underlined Turkey’s determination to take “every step” to thwart any similar measure in its southeast Kurdish areas.

“A change that will mean the violation of Iraq’s territorial integrity poses a major risk for Turkey,” Canikli said. “The disruption of Syria and Iraq’s territorial integrity will ignite a bigger, global conflict with an unseen end,” he added.

The Iraqi Kurds plan to hold the plebiscite on September 25 in three provinces that make up their region, as well as in disputed areas that are controlled by Kurdish forces but claimed by Baghdad, including the oil-rich Kirkuk Province.

Canikli’s remarks come a day after Turkey launched a military exercise without warning across its southern border with Iraq which is scheduled to last until September 26, a day after the planned referendum.

On Tuesday, Turkish troops turned their weapons towards Kurdish-run northern Iraq, with tanks and rocket launchers mounted on armored vehicles facing the Iraqi frontier, Reuters reported.

Turkey, which has the largest Kurdish population, has robust economic ties to Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG). The standoff has weakened the Turkish lira beyond 3.5 to the dollar for the first time in four weeks.

The Turkish cabinet and Turkish national security council have scheduled meetings on Friday to consider possible action. Baghdad has slammed the upcoming vote as unconstitutional, calling on the Kurdish leadership to drop the plan.

On Monday, Iraq’s top court temporarily suspended the Kurdish independence referendum, saying it “issued a national order to suspend the referendum procedures … until the resolution of the cases regarding the constitutionality of said decision.” Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi also formally asked the Kurdish officials to halt the process.

Control over oil resources have caused a lot of suffering

Last week, Iraqi Kurdish lawmakers approved holding the secession vote in the face of fierce opposition from the central government in Baghdad. The United Nations and the US as well as regional powers like Iran and Turkey have also expressed concerns about the planned referendum by the semi-autonomous KRG, arguing that it could create further instability in the already volatile region.

The president of Iraq’s Kurdistan region, Massoud Barzani, said once again late Monday that he would proceed with the referendum despite warnings at home and abroad.

Why won’t the international community stop the Rohingya genocide? ‘VIDEO’

Press TV

In this episode of The Debate, Press TV has conducted an interview with  Veterans Today Editor, author and political commentator Kevin Barrett, from Madison, and Brent Budowsky, a columnist of The Hill from Washington to discuss the ongoing Rohingya Muslims’ crisis in refugee camps in Bangladesh after fleeing violence in Myanmar.

Both guests agree that the ongoing genocide must be stopped. But Budowsky blames Russia and China for the international community’s failure to protect the Rohingya; while Barrett says the US and Israel, which effectively abolished international law with their 9/11 false flag operation and subsequent wars of aggression, are the main culprits.

Fears of Nuclear War Grow After Trump’s Threat to Annihilate North Korea

US President Donald Trump’s fascistic tirade at the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, in which he declared Washington “ready, willing and able” to “totally destroy North Korea,” shocked and horrified people around the world yesterday.

The North Korean regime’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) warned that it might now attack US targets if it detects that US forces are preparing to destroy it. The KCNA said Pyongyang would prepare a “resolute and pre-emptive strike if they show any slight sign of provocation. In case the US opts for confrontation and war at last… it will meet horrible nuclear strike and miserable and final ruin.”

As UN officials and the world’s other major powers react to Trump’s speech, it is ever clearer that the ruling elite internationally is politically bankrupt, in a state of perplexity, terror and denial in the face of the danger that Washington will launch or provoke a nuclear war. None of them have any way to stop military escalation by the imperialist hegemon at the center of the world capitalist system. They are silent on the barbaric nature of Trump’s remarks and the danger of a nuclear war that could destroy humanity.

At the UN General Assembly in New York, where Trump had delivered his genocidal threats against the North Korean people the day before, dozens of countries signed a Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Brazilian President Michel Temer was the first head of state to sign the treaty. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres hailed it as “an important step toward the universally held goal of a world free of nuclear weapons.”

In fact, the treaty was an elaborate and impotent charade. It was boycotted by the United States, Britain, and France, all of which have nuclear weapons. Since each of these powers can veto adoption of the treaty at the UN Security Council, the treaty is dead on arrival. The NATO alliance also issued a statement that was silent on Trump’s threats against North Korea, but denounced the treaty, saying it “disregards the realities of the increasingly challenging security environment.”

In one of the few comments addressing the scope of the war that is being prepared, China’s state-run Global Times warned that the initial US attack on North Korea could claim hundreds of millions of lives in densely-populated areas of Northeast Asia. However, it said nothing on what would occur after the initial US strike, and sought to soften its criticisms of Trump by dividing the blame equally between Trump and North Korea.

It wrote,

“‘Totally destroying North Korea’ would bring an unbearable ecological disaster to Northeast Asia. Northeast China, the Shandong peninsula and South Korea would all be engulfed by nuclear fallout. Thus the US president, instead of boasting of military strength, should try to avoid such a war… If a nuclear war broke out, that would be a crime against Chinese and South Koreans by Pyongyang and Washington.”

While the Global Times did not say how the Chinese regime might respond to such an attack, it is well known that its nuclear missiles can reach the entire continental United States. As China and Russia hold a joint naval exercise between Vladivostok and the Sea of Okhotsk, north of the Korean Peninsula, it is clear that Beijing and Moscow are preparing retaliatory action that could rapidly spiral into a global war with US forces in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and throughout the world.

Russia is currently carrying out its Zapad military exercise, and yesterday the TASS news agency reported that Russian forces had successfully tested RS-24 strategic nuclear missiles, which hit their targets in Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula.

Trump’s threats have also exposed the deep rift between the United States and the European powers, particularly Germany and France. Without addressing or condemning Trump’s threat of a genocidal attack on North Korea, European officials and media made clear that they are moving into overt opposition to US foreign policy across a range of issues and military conflicts worldwide.

The French daily Le Monde commented,

“For the rest of the international community, [Trump’s] speech is a terrible challenge. This is particularly the case for Europe, the privileged partner and ally of the United States, now opposed to Washington on numerous issues like the climate, Iran, multilateralism. President Emmanuel Macron’s speech two hours later was a striking contradiction to Trump. The Atlantic alliance is losing its meaning.”

German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned that in North Korea,

“only a peaceful, diplomatic solution to this conflict is possible. Anything else would lead to catastrophe, I am deeply convinced of that.” She added that she would fight “with all my strength” for a peaceful solution.

German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel blandly called Trump’s genocidal threats “inappropriate,” adding:

“Such warlike rhetoric does not get us a single step further.”

French President Emmanuel Macron had already spoken at the UN just after Trump’s speech, which Macron pointedly did not attend. He said that France “will oppose any escalation” in Korea, as well as against other regimes around the world threatened by Trump. Macron said a unilateral attempt to scupper the 2015 Iranian nuclear treaty, as Trump is threatening, would be “irresponsible” and added that he had warned Tehran and Washington that a “deadly spiral” into war was possible.

There is little doubt that the European governments will respond to the growing threat of war by accelerating their multi-billion-euro defense spending increases, led by Germany and its now three-year-old campaign to re-militarize its foreign policy.

Like Trump’s UN speech itself, the reaction of the European and international powers is the product of a long evolution. In the quarter century since the Stalinist bureaucracy dissolved the Soviet Union, removing the military counterweight to Washington, US imperialism sought to counteract its growing economic weakness by resorting to escalating aggressive war in the Middle East and across the globe. It continued to serve as the financial and military linchpin of world capitalism, however, and a model for the increasingly militaristic and austerity policies of its European rivals.

The lack of any international condemnation of Trump’s threat to murder 25 million North Koreans is a measure of the political degeneration of the ruling class worldwide. They are saying nothing because—after a quarter century in which the European powers and other US allies joined US-led wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, or Libya, Syria, and Ukraine—they themselves are prepared to resort to war and horrific levels of violence.

The bankruptcy of the ruling elite underscores that the only force that can oppose the drive to war is the international working class, acting on a socialist and revolutionary program. This points to the significance of Trump’s vitriolic denunciation of socialism in his speech to the UN, which politicians and the media passed over in virtually total silence. The political representatives of a corrupt and super-rich ruling class, well aware that they are on the verge of a horrific nuclear conflagration, fear that a war crisis could provoke a rapid political shift in the population and the complete discrediting of world capitalism.

Instead, the European powers as well as China and Russia are moving into ever sharper diplomatic and strategic conflict with the United States. At the UN Security Council yesterday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko requested OSCE monitors be dispatched to the disputed Russophone Donbass region, where Kiev has faced opposition from Russian-backed militias since the 2014 NATO-backed coup in Ukraine.

There are continuing calls in Washington to arm the Ukrainian regime against Moscow—a policy which pushed Germany and France to warn of the danger of “total war” with Russia and conclude a separate peace deal with Ukraine and Russia in 2015 in Minsk. Yesterday, Macron announced that France would seek a new meeting with Germany, Russia and Ukraine to “continue, in the context of the Minsk accords, the de-escalation of violence and reforms in Ukraine.”

“This book is a ‘must’ resource – a richly documented and systematic diagnosis of the supremely pathological geo-strategic planning of US wars since ‘9-11’ against non-nuclear countries to seize their oil fields and resources under cover of ‘freedom and democracy’.”
John McMurtry, Professor of Philosophy, Guelph University

“In a world where engineered, pre-emptive, or more fashionably “humanitarian” wars of aggression have become the norm, this challenging book may be our final wake-up call.”
-Denis Halliday, Former Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations

Michel Chossudovsky exposes the insanity of our privatized war machine. Iran is being targeted with nuclear weapons as part of a war agenda built on distortions and lies for the purpose of private profit. The real aims are oil, financial hegemony and global control. The price could be nuclear holocaust. When weapons become the hottest export of the world’s only superpower, and diplomats work as salesmen for the defense industry, the whole world is recklessly endangered. If we must have a military, it belongs entirely in the public sector. No one should profit from mass death and destruction.
